Palpilongus gen. n. is herein described for one species – Palpilongus bifurcus sp. n., from Costa Rica, based on male and females. The striking morphological characters of the species – palpus very long, about as long as prementum; upper calypter truncate and very short and setae of male sternite 5 bifurcated, confirm that this new species is also a new genus in the tribe Coenosiini. Male and female terminalia were dissected and illustrated.  相似文献

An unusual macrourid larva was collected in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington, USA. This specimen is remarkable in appearance having very long anterior dorsal- and pelvic-fin rays, with flattened distal ends free of the fin membrane, and a long, whiplike, heavily pigmented caudal filament. It is similar to smaller Coryphaenoides pectoralis larvae reported from the California Current region, and different from larger specimens of C. pectoralis from the northern North Pacific. Counts and other morphological similarities suggest that this larva should be tentatively assigned to genus Coryphaenoides.  相似文献

A new deepsea monognathid species,Monognathus berteli, is described based on one specimen collected pelagically in the northwestern Indian Ocean at 1440–1018 meters of depth. LikeM. taningi andM. bertini, it belongs to the short-skulled species-group and has very long pectoral fins, but differs from these species by several meristic characters. The described specimen has a very long caudal filament (53% SL) which is not known from otherMonognathus. However, the fragile filament is not used as a diagnostic character since it could easily be broken.  相似文献

A new genus and species of otter‐like mustelid, Teruelictis riparius, is created on the basis of a partial skeleton from the Late Miocene (Vallesian age, MN 10) locality of La Roma 2 (Teruel, Spain), including several postcranial elements, the skull, and the mandible. The combination of a typically lutrine dentition, similar to that of other fossil otters such as Paralutra jaegeri, with a very slender postcranial skeleton, including a long back and gracile long bones and metacarpals, thus lacking any aquatic adaptations, was previously unknown in the fossil record. This mosaic of features strongly suggests the possibility that the aquatic lifestyle of otters could have appeared after the initial development of the distinctive dental morphology of this specialized group of mustelids. © 2013 The Linnean Society of London  相似文献

Three new species of the family Rotundabaloghiidae are discovered and described from Sabah, Malaysia. The unusual Angulobaloghia rutra sp. n. differs from the other known Angulobaloghia Hirschmann, 1979 species in the long anterior process of the female’s genital shield. Rotundabaloghia (Circobaloghia) tobiasi sp. n. has very long and apically pilose dorsal setae and two pairs of bulbiform setae, which are unique in the subgenus Rotundabaloghia (Circobaloghia) Hirschmann, 1975. The long, serrate and curved setae in the big ventral cavity of Depressorotunda (Depressorotunda) serrata sp. n. is a so far unknown character in the subgenus Depressorotunda (Depressorotunda) Kontschán, 2010.  相似文献

Larval development of Leiognathus equulus is described from reared postflexion specimens (4.6–15.8 mm Standard Length, SL) from Taiwan. Larvae have strong head spination, particularly a supraoccipital crest, strong supraocular ridge and very long, serrate preopercular spines, with the spine at the preopercular angle initially heavily pigmented. Fin spines are robust, and the anterior spines of dorsal, anal and pelvic fins are long and serrate. Structures characteristic of the family Leiognathidae form early in development (ca. 5 mm SL), including the very protrusible mouth, the fin-locking mechanism and the bacterial light organ. Pigment is initially largely confined to the ventral midline, but as development proceeds, extensive lateral and dorsal pigment patches appear. Larvae of L. equulus have the Trnski and Leis Morph 1 morphology.  相似文献

The telomere structure in the Iberian shrew Sorex granarius is characterized by unique, striking features, with short arms of acrocentric chromosomes carrying extremely long telomeres (up to 300 kb) with interspersed ribosomal DNA (rDNA) repeat blocks. In this work, we investigated the telomere physiology of S. granarius fibroblast cells and found that telomere repeats are transcribed on both strands and that there is no telomere-dependent senescence mechanism. Although telomerase activity is detectable throughout cell culture and appears to act on both short and long telomeres, we also discovered that signatures of a recombinogenic activity are omnipresent, including telomere-sister chromatid exchanges, formation of alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT)-associated PML-like bodies, production of telomere circles, and a high frequency of telomeres carrying marks of a DNA damage response. Our results suggest that recombination participates in the maintenance of the very long telomeres in normal S. granarius fibroblasts. We discuss the possible interplay between the interspersed telomere and rDNA repeats in the stabilization of the very long telomeres in this organism.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of the spermatozoon of Geogarypus nigrimanus (Arachnida, Pseudoscorpionida) is described. The spermatozoon is composed of a small elliptic nucleus, a short flagellum and a very long and complex acrosome. In the male genital ducts, as in other studied species of pseudoscorpions, the sperm components are rolled up to form a globular structure enclosed in a cyst wall. The Geogarypus spermatozoon with a reduced flagellum and a giant acrosome seems to be evolutionary more advanced than spermatozoa from other pseudoscorpions.  相似文献

The spermatozoa of Bephratelloides pomorum are very long and fine. Each spermatozoon measures about 620 μm in length by 0.38 μm in diameter and, when seen under the light microscope, appears to be wavy along its entire length. The head, which is approximately 105 μm, comprises a small acrosome and a nucleus. The acrosome is made up of a cone-shaped acrosomal vesicle surrounding the perforatorium and the anterior end of the nucleus. Innumerable filaments radiate from it. The perforatorium has a diameter equal to that of the nucleus at their junction, where it fits with a concave base onto the rounded nuclear tip. The nucleus is helicoidal and completely filled with homogeneous compact chromatin. It is attached to the tail by a very long and quite electron-dense centriolar adjunct that extends anteriorly from the centriole in a spiral around the nucleus for approximately 8.5 μm. The tail consists of an axoneme with the 9+9+2 microtubule arrangement pitched in a long helix, as well as a pair of spiraling mitochondrial derivatives (with regularly arranged cristae) that coil around the axoneme, and two small accessory bodies. As well as the spiraling of the nucleus, mitochondrial derivatives and axonemal microtubules, the sperm of B. pomorum present other very different morphological features. These features include the acrosome and centriolar adjunct, both of which differentiate the spermatozoa from the majority of sperm found in other Hymenoptera. In addition these structural variations demonstrate that the sperm of chalcidoids provide characteristics that can certainly prove useful for future phylogenetic analysis at the subfamily level and, possibly, the genus too.  相似文献

Spermatozoa of five notaspidean opisthobranchs [Berthellina citrina, Berthella ornata, Pleuro-branchus peroni, Pleurobranchaea maculata, Umbruculum sinicum] were examined using TEM. In all five species, the acrosome (sensu lato) consists of an apical vesicle (the acrosomal vesicle) and acrosomal pedestal. The acrosomal pedestal overlaps the nuclear apex, and in P. peroni (and possibly B. ornata) is periodically banded—-the first reported incidence of this type of substructure in any euthyneuran acrosome. Although sperm nuclei of P. peroni, B. ornata and B. citrina differ in length and also the number of keels present (nucleus 7 μm long with four/five keels present in Pleurobranchus; 17 μm long with one keel in Berthella; 15 μm long with a very weak keel in Berthellina), the basal invagination to which the centriolar derivative, axoneme and coarse fibres are attached is always poorly developed, and very little overlap between nucleus and midpiece occurs. In P. maculata and U. sinicum, the nucleus forms a helical cord around the axoneme and mitochondrial derivative such that it is not possible to recognize exclusively ‘nuclear’ and ‘midpiece’ regions of the spermatozoon. In all notaspideans investigated, (1) the axoneme, coarse fibres and glycogen helix are enclosed by the paracrystalline and matrix components of the mitochondrial derivative and (2) a dense ring structure (attached to the plasma membrane) and glycogen piece are observed. While the glycogen piece is very short (0.85–1.43 μm) with a very degenerate axoneme in B. citrina, B. ornata and P. peroni, this region of the spermatozoan is well developed (30–35 μm long) in U. sinicum and exhibits a fully intact 9 + 2 axoneme. The ‘glycogen piece’(or its presumed homologue) in P. maculata spermatozoa is very short (0.65 μm), devoid of any axonemal remnant and constructed of a hollow, internal cylinder attached to an outer (incomplete) shell, and contains scattered (glycogen) granules. Spermatozoal structure supports a close relationship between the genera Berthellina, Berthella and Pleurobranchus. These three genera have more distant links with Pleurobranchaea, while Umbraculum maintains an isolated, specialized position within the Notaspidea.  相似文献

Spermiogenesis and sperm structure of the primitive acoel Paratomella rubra from the Ligurian Sea, Italy, were investigated by several methods. During spermiogenesis, after flagellar incorporation by formation of two longitudinal lateral grooves, spermatid elongation is characterized in Paratomella by the presence of four membranes encircling each axoneme plus two membranes encircling both the axonemes and the nucleus. These structures were interpreted as being three cytoplasmic canals situated one inside the other. The filiform spermatozoon has two incorporated axonemes of 9+2 type, a nucleus almost as long as the sperm cell itself, a single elongate mitochondrion, and two types of membrane-bound granules, respectively, small and gastrula-shaped, and large. Organelles are highly ordered, the sperm is bilaterally symmetrical with a single long mitochondrion on the ventral side and a regular row of large granules, for some length embedded in the nucleus, on the dorsal side. Immunocytochemical studies and the use of fluorescent nuclear dyes reveal the spatial relationships of the axonemes with the nucleus. The granules were shown by Thiéry, PTA and enzyme digestion tests to contain glycoproteins and/or polysaccharides and very little protein. Glycogen particles were detected in the cytoplasm. Cells containing coiled spermatozoa undergoing resorption were found in the parenchyma. New apomorphies of the taxon Paratomella based on sperm structure are proposed: a very long nucleus, a highly bilaterally symmetrical pattern of organelles, a single long mitochondrion. These characters are not found in other Acoela, and particularly in Hesiolicium , sometimes considered closely related to Paratomella . © 1997 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd on behalf of The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.  相似文献
