Total aluminum, chromium, copper, iron, manganese, and nickel were determined in black tea, green tea, Hibiscus sabdariffa, and Ilex paraguariensis (mate) by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry after nitric/perchloric acid digestion. In each case, one ground sample of commercially available leafy material was prepared and three 0.5-g subsamples were run in parallel. The infusions were also analyzed and the percentage of each element leached into the liquor was evaluated. The obtained results indicated that hibiscus and mate contained lower levels of aluminum (272±19 μg/g and 369±22 μg/g, respectively) as referred to black tea (759±31 μg/g) or green tea (919±29 μg/g) and suggested that mate drinking could be a good dietary source of essential micronutrient manganese (total content 2223±110 μg/g, 48.1% leached to the infusion). It was also found that the infusion of hibiscus could supply greater amounts of iron (111±5 μg/g total, 40.5% leached) and copper (5.9±0.3 μg/g total, 93.4% leached) as compared to other infusions. Moreover, it was found that the percentage of element leached to the infusion was strongly related to the tannins content in the beverage (correlation coefficients >0.82 with the exception for nickel); for lower tannins level, better leaching was observed.  相似文献

The antioxidative property of green tea against iron-induced oxidative stress was investigated in the rat brain both in vivo and in vivo. Incubation of brain homogenates at 37 degrees C for 4 hours in vitro increased the formation of Schiff base fluorescent products of malonaldehyde, an indicator of lipid peroxidation. Auto-oxidation (without exogenous iron) of brain homogenates was inhibited by green tea extract in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, incubation with iron (1 microM) elevated lipid peroxidation of brain homogenates after 4-hour incubation at 37 degrees C. Co-incubation with green tea extract dose-dependently inhibited the iron-induced elevation in lipid peroxidation. For the in vivo studies: ferrous citrate (iron, 4.2 nmoles) was infused intranigrally and induced degeneration of the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system of rat brain. An increase in lipid peroxidation in substantia nigra as well as a decrease in dopamine content in striatum was observed seven days after the iron infusion. Intranigral infusion of green tea extract alone did not increase, and in some cases, even decreased lipid peroxidation in substantia nigra. Co-infusion of green tea extract prevented oxidative injury induced by iron. Both iron-induced elevation in lipid peroxidation in substantia nigra and iron-induced decrease in dopamine content in striatum were suppressed. Oral administration of green tea extract for two weeks did not prevent the iron-induced oxidative injury in nigrostriatal dopaminergic system. Our results suggest that intranigral infusion of green tea extract appears to be nontoxic to the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system. Furthermore, the potent antioxidative action of green tea extract protects the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system from the iron-induced oxidative injury.  相似文献

Although most aphid species living on leaves have a green body color, little is known regarding the biosynthetic pathways of green pigments. We found that a clone of the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) produced both green- and yellow-colored males. The females of this clone were green in color, while 8.4% of the males produced were yellow. To date, yellow body color has been reported only in a single mutant clone in A. pisum. To explore the genetic pattern of yellow body color, green or yellow males were mated with green females of the same clone. The hatchability of the eggs sired by yellow males (26.2%) was less than half that of the eggs sired by green males (79.0%). The hatched foundresses of both groups were all green, with no yellow foundresses. Because aphids have an XX-XO sex determination system, color polymorphism in males suggests that male body color may be governed by an X-linked locus. If females possess heterozygosity at the putative locus, they can produce alternative phenotypes in males. The small proportion of yellow males and absence of yellow foundresses imply that the allele responsible for yellow body color has a deleterious effect. The present study suggests that this clone could be used to elucidate the biosynthetic pathways and underlying genetics of green pigments in aphids.  相似文献

古代人们使用的着色剂都是天然产品,除少数矿物颜料外,主要是植物源色素。我国古代就有以红曲米作为着色剂利用的习惯;在高等植物方面,生产蓝色、黄色、绿色的颜料的高等植物种类不少,大多沿用至今。自19世纪中叶以后,人工合成色素以着色牢固、鲜艳、成本低廉等特点,迅速占领了印染、食品等许多行业,但20世纪60年代以后,许多研究表明,一般合成色素都有程度不等的毒性,特别是化学结构含偶氮型的色素有可能在人体内成为致癌物。同时,在色素合成的过程中,还有可能污染有重金属及其他有害物质。因此,合成色素越来越使人们感到不安全。从20世纪50年代的100多种人工合成色素用于食品着色,到20世纪末,已有60~70余种被禁用了,而植物食用色素在食品行业中成为主要着色剂。近年来又涌现出多种有价值的高等植物源色素,我们选择其主要一些植物种类做些介绍,供有关方面参考。  相似文献

Genetically distinct anadromous (sockeye) and nonanadromous (kokanee) morphs of the Pacific salmon, Oncorhynchus nerka, develop identical, brilliant red color at maturity during sympatric breeding in freshwater streams. The marine and lacustrine environments they occupy prior to maturity, however, appear to differ in the availability of dietary carotenoid pigments necessary to produce red coloration. We tested the hypothesis that kokanee, which occupy carotenoid-poor lakes, are more efficient at using the dietary pigments than are sockeye, which occupy the more productive North Pacific Ocean. In a 2-year controlled breeding study, flesh and skin color of mature and immature crosses fed a low-carotenoid diet were quantified with both a chromameter and by chemical extraction of carotenoid pigments. Results revealed striking countergradient variation in carotenoid use, with kokanee approximately three times more efficient at sequestering the pigments to the flesh musculature than similar age sockeye. This difference translated into virtually nonoverlapping differences between pure crosses in secondary sexual color at maturity, when the pigments are mobilized and transported to the skin. Kokanee crosses turned pinkish red over most of their body, whereas sockeye turned olive green. The olive green was similar to the breeding color of residuals in the wild, the progeny of anadromous sockeye that remain in fresh water and are believed to have given rise to kokanee on numerous independent occasions. Reciprocal hybrids were similar to each other and intermediate to the pure crosses, indicating additive genetic inheritance. Mate choice trials with sockeye males in the wild showed the ancestral morph strongly preferred red over green models. These results suggest a preference for red mates maintained in nonanadromous breeding populations drove the reevolution of the red phenotype in kokanee via more efficient use of dietary carotenoid pigments. This is a novel, yet hidden, mechanism by which sexual selection promotes the genetic differentiation of these sympatric populations.  相似文献

For a variety of coral species, we have studied the molecular origin of their coloration to assess the contributions of host and symbiont pigments. For the corals Catalaphyllia jardinei and an orange-emitting color morph of Lobophyllia hemprichii, the pigments belong to a particular class of green fluorescent protein-like proteins that change their color from green to red upon irradiation with approximately 400 nm light. The optical absorption and emission properties of these proteins were characterized in detail. Their spectra were found to be similar to those of phycoerythrin from cyanobacterial symbionts. To unambiguously determine the molecular origin of the coloration, we performed immunochemical studies using double diffusion in gel analysis on tissue extracts, including also a third coral species, Montastrea cavernosa, which allowed us to attribute the red fluorescent coloration to green-to-red photoconvertible fluorescent proteins. The red fluorescent proteins are localized mainly in the ectodermal tissue and contribute up to 7.0% of the total soluble cellular proteins in these species. Distinct spatial distributions of green and cyan fluorescent proteins were observed for the tissues of M. cavernosa. This observation may suggest that differently colored green fluorescent protein-like proteins have different, specific functions. In addition to green fluorescent protein-like proteins, the pigments of zooxanthellae have a strong effect on the visual appearance of the latter species.  相似文献

Tea is the most popular beverage in the world, second only to water. Tea contains an infusion of the leaves from the Camellia sinensis plant rich in polyphenolic compounds known as catechins, the most abundant of which is (-)-EGCG. Although tea has been consumed for centuries, it has only recently been studied extensively as a health-promoting beverage that may act to prevent a number of chronic diseases and cancers. The results of several investigations indicate that green tea consumption may be of modest benefit in reducing the plasma concentration of cholesterol and preventing atherosclerosis. Additionally, the cancer-preventive effects of green tea are widely supported by results from epidemiological, cell culture, animal and clinical studies. In vitro cell culture studies show that tea polyphenols potently induce apoptotic cell death and cell cycle arrest in tumor cells but not in their normal cell counterparts. Green tea polyphenols were shown to affect several biological pathways, including growth factor-mediated pathway, the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase-dependent pathway, and ubiquitin/proteasome degradation pathways. Various animal studies have revealed that treatment with green tea inhibits tumor incidence and multiplicity in different organ sites such as skin, lung, liver, stomach, mammary gland and colon. Recently, phase I and II clinical trials have been conducted to explore the anticancer effects of green tea in humans. A major challenge of cancer prevention is to integrate new molecular findings into clinical practice. Therefore, identification of more molecular targets and biomarkers for tea polyphenols is essential for improving the design of green tea trials and will greatly assist in a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying its anti-cancer activity.  相似文献

A practical method for universal evaluation of the astringency of green tea infusion by a taste sensor system was established. The use of EGCg aqueous solution as a standard enabled analysis with high accuracy and reproducibility. The sensor output was converted into taste-intensity on the basis of Weber's and Weber-Fechner laws, which was named the "EIT(ast)" value ("EIT" and "ast" are abbreviations for "Estimated Intensity of Taste" and "astringency" respectively). It was clarified that green tea infusion is to be classified into eight grades on the EIT(ast) scale. Furthermore, the high correlation of the EIT(ast) value with the human gustatory sense and the high stability of the taste sensor were proved.  相似文献

We developed a method to measure plasma levels of selected polyphenols before and after ingestion of green tea. Blood samples were obtained from four healthy women before and 30 and 50 min after the ingestion of 300 ml of green tea infusion. A 1-ml volume of plasma was hydrolysed with 0.5 M HCl-methanol (1:1, v/v) for 30 min at room temperature, extracted with ethyl acetate and separated by reversed-phase chromatography. Polyphenols were identified on the basis of their retention times and by spectrum analysis. Green tea caffeine has the same retention times as caffeic acid. Consumption of green tea produces a notable increase in the plasma levels of caffeine plus caffeic acid and the appearance of measurable levels of epigallocatechingallate. In conclusion, the method was found to have the requisite features of specificity and sensitivity for monitoring plasma levels of selected tea polyphenols.  相似文献

Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) are mediators of growth hormones; they have an influence on cell proliferation and differentiation. In addition, IGF-binding protein (IGFBP)-3 could suppress the mitogenic action of IGFs. Interestingly, tea polyphenols could substantially reduce IGF1 and increase IGFBP3. In this study, we evaluated the effects of smoking, green tea consumption, as well as IGF1, IGF2, and IGFBP3 polymorphisms, on lung cancer risk. Questionnaires were administered to obtain the subjects' characteristics, including smoking habits and green tea consumption from 170 primary lung cancer cases and 340 healthy controls. Genotypes for IGF1, IGF2, and IGFBP3 were identified by polymerase chain reaction. Lung cancer cases had a higher proportion of smoking, green tea consumption of less than one cup per day, exposure to cooking fumes, and family history of lung cancer than controls. After adjusting the confounding effect, an elevated risk was observed in smokers who never drank green tea, as compared to smokers who drank green tea more than one cup per day (odds ratio (OR) = 13.16, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 2.96-58.51). Interaction between smoking and green tea consumption on lung cancer risk was also observed. Among green tea drinkers who drank more than one cup per day, IGF1 (CA)(19)/(CA)(19) and (CA)(19)/X genotypes carriers had a significantly reduced risk of lung cancer (OR = 0.06, 95% CI = 0.01-0.44) compared with IGF1 X/X carriers. Smoking-induced pulmonary carcinogenesis could be modulated by green tea consumption and their growth factor environment.  相似文献

Green tea is a popular world-wide beverage with health benefits that include preventive effects on cancer as well as cardiovascular, liver and Alzheimer’s diseases (AD). This study will examine the preventive effects on AD of a unique aroma of Japanese green tea. First, a transgenic Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) CL4176 expressing human β-amyloid peptide (Aβ) was used as a model of AD. A hexane extract of processed green tea was further fractionated into volatile and non-volatile fractions, named roasty aroma and green tea aroma fractions depending on their aroma, by microscale distillation. Both hexane extract and green tea aroma fraction were found to inhibit Aβ-induced paralysis, while only green tea aroma fraction extended lifespan in CL4176. We also found that green tea aroma fraction has antioxidant activity. This paper indicates that the green tea aroma fraction is an additional component for prevention of AD.  相似文献

A method for the quantitative determination of flavanols in tea leaf and green tea is described. Separated flavanols on two-dimensional chromatogram are revealed by spraying dilute diazosulfanilic acid solution and eluted by hot water. To these eluates is added diazosulfanilic acid buffered with sodium acetate and after sufficient color development the absorbances of them are measured spectrophotometrically.  相似文献

Tea green leafhopper is one of the most damaging tea pests in main tea production regions of East Asia. For lack of recognized morphological characters, the dominant species of tea green leafhoppers in Mainland China, Taiwan and Japan have always been named as Empoasca vitis Göthe, Jacobiasca formosana Paoli and Empoasca onukii MATSUDA, respectively. Furthermore, nothing is known about the genetic relationships among them. In this study, we collected six populations from Mainland China, four populations from Japan and one population from Taiwan, and examined the genetic distances in the COI and 16sRNA regions of mtDNA among them. The results showed that the genetic distances based on single gene or the combined sequences among eleven leafhopper populations were 0.3–1.2%, which were all less than the species boundary of 2%. Moreover, there were at least two haplotypes shared by two distinct populations from different regions. The phylogenetic analysis based on single gene or combined sets also supported that tea green leafhoppers from Mainland China, Taiwan and Japan were closely related to each other, and there were at least two specimens from different regions clustered ahead of those from the same region. Therefore, we propose that the view of recognizing the dominant species of tea green leafhoppers in three adjacent tea production regions of East Asia as different species is unreliable or questionable and suggest that they are a single species.  相似文献

Amphibian “green” rods express a blue-sensitive cone visual pigment, and should look yellow. However, when observing them axially under microscope one sees them as green. We used single-cell microspectrophotometry (MSP) to reveal the basis of the perceived color of these photoreceptors. Conventional side-on MSP recording of the proximal cell segments reveals no selective long-wave absorbing pigment explaining the green color. End-on MSP recording shows, in addition to the green rod visual pigment, an extra 2- to 4-fold attenuation being almost flat throughout the visible spectrum. This attenuation is absent in red (rhodopsin) rods, and vanishes in green rods when the retina is bathed in high-refractive media, and at wide illumination aperture. The same treatments change the color from green to yellow. It seems that the non-visual pigment attenuation is a result of slender green rod myoids operating as non-selective light guides. We hypothesize that narrow myoids, combined with photomechanical movements of melanin granules, allow a wide range of sensitivity regulation supporting the operation of green rods as blue receptors at mesopic-to low-photopic illumination levels. End-on transmittance spectrum of green rods looks similar to the reflectance spectrum of khaki military uniforms. So their greenness is the combined result of optics and human color vision.  相似文献

Pigments IIIa and IIIb, the major components of flavones in green tea, were isolated in a pure state and identified as 6, 8-di-C-d-glucopyranosyl apigenin, from results of UV, IR, NMR spectra and other analytical data. They were also interconvertible by boiling with mineral acids. One of them, IIIb, gave an equilibrium mixture, which consisted of IIIb1, HIb2, and IIIb3, when its aqueous solution was heated for extended periods of time. These pigments were distinguished by their interconvertibility and degradation pattern with acid, from another known 6, 8-di-C-glycosyl apigenin, vicenin-2.  相似文献

Tea leaf catechins and the ratio of dihydroxylated to trihydroxylated catechin fractions were analysed to identify the genetic diversity of 26 UPASI released tea clones. Principal component analysis (PCA) based on regression factor separated tea clones into five groups according to their jats (Jats are region based rays for e.g., Assam, China and Cambod origin) as well as their quality constituents (such as total polyphenols, total catechins, amino acids in the green leaves and liquor characteristics of black tea), particularly the catechins. Group 1 represented medium quality (quality of the final produce) clones, such as UPASI-10, UPASI-12 and UPASI-15 and drought tolerant clones like UPASI-1, UPASI-2, UPASI-9 and UPASI-10. Group 2 contained purely "China" cultivars while group 3 possessed high quality tea cultivars. "Assam" (group 5) teas had the lowest ratio of dihydroxylated to trihydroxylated catechin fractions (1:4) than the "Chinery" (group 2) teas (1:5). This biochemical differentiation indicated that there is a vast genetic diversity in UPASI released tea clones in terms of catechin fractions, even though the majority of them were selected from one tea estate located in the Nilgiris.  相似文献

A 2-mo experiment with the white Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats was conducted to investigate the effect of the water extracts of black tea (BTWE) and green tea (GTWE) and the black tea leaves (BTF) and the green tea leaves (GTF) on the metabolism of mineral elements. One hundred eight 12-mo-old white SD rats were randomly divided into 13 groups; 6 of these drank the BTWE or GTWE in which the water extracts concentrations of black tea or green tea were, respectively, 0.6%, 1.2%, and 2.4%, and 6 of these had black tea leaves (BTF) and green tea leaves (GTF) added in which the contents of BTF or GTF were, respectively, 0.5%, 1.0%, and 2.0%, one of these was control. The teas and their water extracts could promote the absorption of manganese and copper. In GTF, BTF, GTWE, and BTWE, the apparent absorption rates of manganese were significantly increased. The manganese contents in the tibia were also elevated, and the differences between GTWE and GTF were significant. The apparent absorption rates of copper and the copper contents in the tibia were increased, but not significantly. The teas and their water extracts inhibited the absorption of calcium (p > 0.05) and iron (p < 0.05). The cerebrum calcium contents were significantly decreased, but the contents of calcium and iron in tibia were not significantly changed. Compared with the control, although the apparent absorption rates of aluminum in all experimental groups were not observed to be different, the aluminum contents in the tibia (p > 0.05) and cerebrum (p < 0.05) were increased. GTF and GTWE decreased the apparent absorption rates of zinc, but BTF and BTWE increased them; the zinc contents in tibia were a little improved, whereas its contents in the cerebrum were gradually decreased with the increase of tea leaves dose and tea concentration.  相似文献

It is well known that black and green tea extracts, particularly polyphenols, have antimicrobial activity against various pathogenic microbes including viruses. However, there is limited data on the antiviral activity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which emerged rapidly in China in late 2019 and which has been responsible for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic globally. In this study, 20 compounds and three extracts were obtained from black and green tea and found that three tea extracts showed significant antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2, whereby the viral titre decreased about 5 logs TCID50 per ml by 1·375 mg ml−1 black tea extract and two-fold diluted tea bag infusion obtained from black tea when incubated at 25°C for 10 s. However, when concentrations of black and green tea extracts were equally adjusted to 344 µg ml−1, green tea extracts showed more antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2. This simple and highly respected beverage may be a cheap and widely acceptable means to reduce SARS-CoV-2 viral burden in the mouth and upper gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts in developed as well as developing countries.  相似文献

结合民族植物学和药理学的研究方法,对西双版纳地区傣族、哈尼族和基诺族等3个少数民族民间利用番石榴(Psidium guajava)、余甘子(Phyllanthus emblica)和水柳(Homonoia riparia)的传统知识进行调查研究及体外抗菌活性实验。结果表明:番石榴和余甘子在村寨中较为常见,当地少数民族将其种植于庭院中,常作为果蔬食用,食用番石榴嫩叶可缓解拉肚子的症状,治疗腹痛、腹泻。水柳生长在水边,傣族会将其叶作为腌酸鱼的配料之一。根据文献记载,番石榴、余甘子和水柳的叶部位作为药使用时,常煎水外洗,治疗皮肤瘙痒。对这3种药用植物叶部位采用80%乙醇浸泡制备的提取物进行体外抗菌实验,结果显示番石榴、余甘子和水柳3种药用植物对金黄色葡萄球菌和大肠埃希菌均有较好的抑菌和杀菌活性,其最小抑菌浓度MIC在98~390 μg·mL 1之间,最小杀菌浓度MBC在98~781 μg·mL 1之间。番石榴和水柳叶对铜绿假单胞菌有一定抑菌和杀菌活性,其MIC和MBC范围均为6 250~12 500 μg·mL 1。由此可见,这3种药用植物的民间利用具有一定的合理性和药用开发价值。  相似文献
