Two new quinolone alkaloids, reevesianine-A and -B, along with five known furoquinoline alkaloids, 7-isopentenyloxy-γ-fagarine, skimmianine, haplopine, evodine, evoxine, and nine known coumarins, 7-isopentenyloxy-8-isopentenylcoumarin, auraptene, osthol, isomeranzin, pranferin, R-(−)-columbianetin, umbelliferone, meranzin hydrate and skimmin, were isolated from the root and stem bark of Skimmia reevesiana collected in Taiwan. The structures of reevesianine-A and -B were established by chemical and spectroscopic methods.  相似文献

Two species of chrysomelid leaf beetles found in Brazil, Diabrotica speciosa and Cerotoma arcuata, are strongly attracted to the root of Ceratosanthes hilariana (Cucurbitaceae). Root extracts stimulate a compulsive feeding response. The major feeding stimulants isolated from these extracts were cucurbitacin B and its 23,24-dihydro derivative.  相似文献

Seven microsatellite markers were isolated from Cubitermes subarquatus belonging to the soil‐feeding termite trophic group that plays a key role in tropical rain forests. A variability study performed by using a population of C. subarquatus (n = 73) sampled in the La Lopé forest reserve (Gabon) from 42 nests revealed from 4 to 12 alleles per locus and an heterozygosity from 0.28 to 0.84. Tests for cross‐species amplification realized in the sympatric C. intercalatus and in eight other sympatric termite genera indicated a wider application of the primers isolated from Cubitermes in soil‐feeding termites.  相似文献

Summary Initiation and modulation of fictive feeding by cerebral to buccal interneurons (CBs) was examined in an isolated CNS preparation of Limax maximus. Three CBs which are phasically active during fictive feeding, CB1, CB3 and CB4, will reliably trigger bouts of fictive feeding when activated alone or in pairs. Another phasic CB, CBEC, is not effective for triggering feeding. One CB which is tonically active during fictive feeding, CBST, drives fictive feeding in 50% of preparations when activated alone and enhances triggering of feeding when co-activated with phasic CBs. The metacerebral giant cell (MGC) was found to be capable of triggering fictive feeding in preparations with an intact subcerebral commissure. The MGC was especially effective at increasing the effectiveness of other CBs for initiation of feeding. Short high-frequency bursts of phasic CB or MGC action potentials are capable of resetting ongoing fictive feeding. Resetting effects of CB action potentials are relatively independent of the phase of the bite-cycle in which they are activated. CB4 phase-advances the bite-cycle while the other phasic CBs phase-delay the bite cycle. Moderate frequency stimulation of CB4 speeds up the bite rate while moderate frequency stimulation of CB3 slows biting. All CBs, except the tonic CB, CBDL, increase the intensity of buccal motor neuron bursting during feeding. The excitatory effects of phasic CBs and the tonic CB, CBEPSP, on fictive feeding persist for many seconds after the offset of stimulation. This study evaluated the functional role of the highly generalist omnivore Melichthys niger in the remote St. Peter and St Paul's Archipelago (SPSPA), Brazil, where grazing herbivorous fishes are very scarce. We analysed patterns of distribution from zero to 30 m deep during three time intervals during the day and sampled different aspects of their feeding behaviour, including diel feeding rate, feeding substrate and diet. The density of M. niger increased with depth (26–30 m) and decreased by the end of the day. Although M. niger did not present a typical herbivore diel feeding pattern, they targeted the epilithic algal matrix as their primary feeding substrate, ingesting predominantly algae and detritus. The characteristic Caulerpa racemosa var. peltata from SPSPA was ingested only as detached fronds. We suggest that in the isolated SPSPA, the single species M. niger may perform a unique role as a link between benthic primary production and higher levels. Further studies on the trophic ecology of omnivorous species are necessary to better understand their roles in a reef system, especially in impoverished areas where they are likely to play a crucial role.  相似文献

The effects on serum cholesterol level were examined in rats fed on various xenobiotics. The hypercholesterolemia induced by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) was characterized in rats, from which lipoproteins were isolated by ultracentrifugation. A dietary addition of 0.03% PCB, 0.3% chloretone, 0.1% aminopyrine, or 0.2% 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol (BHT) resulted in a significant increase in serum cholesterol, although the chemical structure of each of these xenobiotics was different. The serum cholesterol level was markedly increased by one month of PCB feeding, the effect of PCB on the serum phospholipid level being similar. The serum triglyceride level transiently increased within 7 days of feeding with PCB diet. PCB feeding resulted in the elevation of all lipoproteins, including VLDL, LDL, HDL1, and HDL2, a marked increase being observed in HDI1. Both HDL1 and HDL2 isolated from PCB-treated rats contained more apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) and less apo E than normal. VLDL isolated from PCB-treated rats had more cholesterol and apo E, but less apo C than that of the control animals. These data demonstrate that PCB feeding resulted in increased VLDL rich in cholesterol and apo E, and increased HDL rich in apo A-I. This experimentally induced hypercholesterolemia resulting in apo A-I-rich HDL would be a useful model for investigating the metabolism of apo-A-I and HDL.  相似文献

Cyphoma gibbosum is an ovulid predatory gastropod that specializes on gorgonians, many of which contain secondary metabolites and calcified sclerites that serve as antipredator defenses. In field and shipboard feeding assays, we examined the role of gorgonian crude extracts and sclerites as feeding deterrents to generalist predators and to C. gibbosum. Crude extracts and sclerites were isolated from Gorgonia ventalina, a Caribbean sea fan on which C. gibbosum feeds, and incorporated into a carrageenan-based artificial diet. In shipboard feeding experiments, artificial diet containing G. ventalina crude extracts was consumed 49% less by C. gibbosum, than artificial diet lacking extracts. The addition of G. ventalina sclerites to the diet also reduced feeding by Cyphoma by about one half. The addition of extracts to the artificial diet reduced feeding by natural assemblages of tropical fishes at Cross Harbor, Great Abaco Island, Bahamas by 87%; sclerites reduced feeding by fishes by 95%. Gorgonia ventalina extracts were composed of at least a dozen nonpolar terpenoids. Fractions containing these compounds were feeding deterrents towards fishes in the field. Unlike many terrestrial oligophagous specialists, C. gibbosum is not immune to the defenses produced by its prey.  相似文献

Elatol was isolated as the major compound from the red alga Laurencia microcladia Kütz. collected in Southern Brazil. This is the first report of elatol in this species. We also investigated the herbivore behaviour of the black sea urchin Echinometra lucunter (Linnaeus, 1758) towards L. microcladia, Ulva fasciata Delile and Gracilaria domingensis (Kütz.) Sond. ex Dickie through live algal multiple-choice feeding assay, as well as artificial feeding assay. The sea urchins ate the crude algae L. microcladia and pellets containing the powdered algae, extract and all tested concentrations of elatol, suggesting that this seaweed and its main compound are palatable for E. lucunter.  相似文献

Inhibition of cytochrome P-450 1A2 (CYP1A2)-mediated activation of procarcinogens may be an important chemopreventive mechanism. Consumption of apiaceous vegetables (rich in furanocoumarins) inhibits CYP1A2 in humans. Because many furanocoumarins are potent inhibitors of several CYPs, we characterized the effects of three furanocoumarins from apiaceous vegetables on human CYP1A2 (hCYP1A2). We assessed hCYP1A2 methoxyresorufin O-demethylase (MROD) activity using microsomes from Saccharomyces cerevisiae expressing hCYP1A2. Isopimpinellin exhibited mechanism-based inactivation (MBI) of hCYP1A2 (K i  = 1.2 μM, k inact = 0.34 min−1, and partition ratio = 8). Imperatorin and trioxsalen were characterized as mixed inhibitors with K i values of 0.007 and 0.10 μM, respectively. These results indicate that even if present at low levels in apiaceous vegetables, imperatorin, trioxsalen and isopimpinellin may contribute significantly to CYP1A2 inhibition and potentially decreased procarcinogen activation. Moreover, the in vivo effect of isopimpinellin on CYP1A2 may be longer lasting compared to reversible inhibitors.  相似文献

In order to assess feeding selectivity in freshwater zooplankton, we conducted feeding trials using Diaptomus minutus isolated from two Wisconsin lakes. Copepods were fed an algal assemblage comprised of an equal biomass of a centric diatom, a cryptomonad and a coccal green alga. The total amounts of photopigments were tracked using high-performance liquid chromatography. The removals of carotenoids and a-type phorbins (chlorophyll a and phaeopigments) from feeding suspensions were compared with their presence in the guts of animals, in fecal pellets, and in the final suspension. Diaptomus minutus generally removed either the diatoms primarily or all three algal cells equally. These removals were not reflected in gut extracts of the animals, however, where alloxanthin (marker of cryptomonads) was always present, but where fucoxanthin and diadinoxanthin (markers of diatoms) were never observed. Pigment disappearance was variable for total a-type phorbins, but frequently >90% for carotenoids, particularly for fucoxanthin and diadinoxanthin. Phaeophytin a was the major a-type phorbin detected after gut passage. Our results indicate that evaluations of zooplankton grazing which assume that algal carotenoids remain detectable throughout gut passage must be made with substantial caution and that differences in pigment processing are likely to occur among zooplankton species. Furthermore, grazing experiments designed to evaluate decreases of specific pigments in feeding suspension, rather than their appearance in animals' guts, may prove a more valuable approach to understanding the feeding selectivity of copepods.   相似文献

Abstract Artemisia annua (Asteraceae) is well known for its antimalarial activities due to presence of the compound artemisinin. We isolated a methoxy coumarin from the stem part of A. annua and confirmed its identity as scopoletin through mass spectral data. The structure was established from 1H‐nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), 13C‐NMR. The compound scopoletin was evaluated for its feeding deterrence and growth inhibitory potential against a noxious lepidopteran insect, Spilartctia obliqua Walker. Scopoletin gave FD50 (feeding deterrence of 50%) value of 96.7 μg/g diet when mixed into artificial diet. S. obliqua larvae (12‐day‐old) exposed to the highest concentration (250 μg/g diet) of scopoletin showed 77.1% feeding‐deterrence. In a growth inhibitory assay, scopoletin provided 116.9% growth inhibition at the highest dose of 250 μg/g diet with a GI50 (growth inhibition of 50%) value of 20.9 μg/g diet. Statistical analysis showed a concentration‐dependent dose response relationship toward both feeding deterrent and growth inhibitory activities. Artemisinin is found mainly in the leaves of A. annua and not in the stems, which are typically discarded as waste. Therefore identification of scopoletin in stems of A. annua may be important as a source of this material for pest control.  相似文献

(1S,6R)-2,7(14),10-bisabolatrien-1-ol-4-one and (+)-7(14),10-bisaboladien-1-ol-4-one were isolated and identified from Cryptomeria japonica as antifeedants against Locusta migratoria L. which is well known as a serious pest to cereals throughout the world. Alkaloid extractables of Tylophora asthmatica (Asclepiadaceae) have been tested for the antifeedant activity against Spodoptera litura by incorporating them in semisynthetic and cellulose diets. The alkaloid extractables at 0.01% concentration inhibited feeding of the larvae. Three compounds, tylophorine, tylophorinine and pergularinine, were isolated; and their EC50 values were found to be 2.9, 8.6 and 12.00 ppm, respectively.  相似文献

The freshwater macrophyte Cabomba caroliniana induces a chemical defense when attacked by either the crayfish Procambrus clarkii or the snail Pomacea canaliculata. Induction by either consumer lowers the palatability of the plant to both consumers. When offered food ad libitum, snails feeding on non-induced C. caroliniana grew 2.6–2.7 times more than those feeding on induced C. caroliniana. Because snails fed less on induced plants, this could be a behavioral effect (reduced feeding), a physiological effect of the induced metabolites on the consumer, or both. To assess these possibilities, we made artificial diets with lipid extracts of induced versus non-induced C. caroliniana and restricted control snails to consuming only as much as treatment snails consumed. Growth measured as shell diameter was significantly lower on the diet containing extract from induced, as opposed to non-induced, plants; change in snail mass was more variable and showed a similar, but non-significant, trend. Thus, snails may reduce feeding on induced plants to avoid suppression of fitness. The induced defenses also suppressed growth of co-occurring microbes that might attack the plant through herbivore-generated feeding scars. When two bacteria and three fungi isolated from C. caroliniana surfaces were cultured with the lipid extract from induced and non-induced C. caroliniana, both extracts inhibited the microbes, but the induced extract was more potent against three of the five potential pathogens. Thus, induced plant defenses can act against both direct consumers and microbes that might invade the plant indirectly through herbivore-generated wounds.  相似文献

Foliar endophytic fungi appear to be ubiquitous in nature, occurring in a very wide range of herbaceous plants. However, their ecological role within forbs is very poorly known and interactions with foliar-feeding insects virtually unexplored. In this study, leaves of Cirsium arvense were infected with different combinations of endophyte fungi that had been previously isolated from this plant species. Two months later, leaf material was fed to larvae of a generalist insect, Mamestra brassicae, and adults of a specialist feeder, Cassida rubiginosa. Endophytes had different effects on the two insects; one species, Chaetomium cochliodes, reduced growth of M. brassicae but increased feeding by C. rubiginosa. Another species, Cladosporium cladosporioides, increased beetle feeding also, but had no effect on M. brassicae. Interactions were also seen between fungal species and dual infection with C. cladosporioides and Trichoderma viride greatly reduced beetle feeding. It is concluded that endophytes have significant effects on foliar feeding insects that differ with degree of specialism of the herbivore. We suggest that these effects are due to chemical changes in the host, brought about by fungal infection. These fungi have received remarkably little attention in the study of insect–plant interactions and yet could be important determinants of insect growth and even population dynamics.  相似文献

【背景】废旧塑料聚乙烯因具有较高的化学惰性,不易被自然降解而形成长期污染。【目的】探究聚乙烯泡沫塑料对大麦虫生长发育的影响,为大麦虫作为降解聚乙烯泡沫塑料的昆虫推广提供理论依据。【方法】以大麦虫幼虫为研究对象,选用常见的泡沫塑料(聚乙烯),采用4种不同的饲喂方式T1 (麦麸)、T2 (泡沫塑料)、T3 (泡沫塑料+麦麸)、T4 (不饲喂)进行驯化,处理30 d后对大麦虫进行解剖,取肠道内容物于LB培养基中进行富集培养,将富集培养后的菌液加入以聚乙烯(polyethylene,PE)为唯一碳源的LCFBM培养基进行选择性培养,从中筛选分离得到对PE塑料有降解能力的菌株。【结果】取食泡沫塑料30d后,与单一饲喂PE相比,麦麸和PE混合饲喂后大麦虫幼虫的存活率为76%。采用傅里叶变换红外光谱检测发现虫粪组分中主要官能团中峰值明显变化,表明PE长链有断裂现象,并从肠道中分离得到3株可以对PE薄膜边缘造成明显侵蚀的菌株。【结论】大麦虫可取食并消化PE塑料,其肠道内的微生物对PE塑料的降解起到关键作用,研究结果为塑料污染的生物降解提供了科学证据。  相似文献

The noctuid moth Zale galbanata is described as feeding on maples (Acer sp.) in general, but its primary food plant is box elder (Acer negundo). We isolated five microsatellite loci to investigate the association of food plant use and the genetic similarity of populations in these moths. These markers are polymorphic to various degrees (5–13 alleles), and are presented here. Our initial tests show that some of these loci also work on other Zale species.  相似文献

A strain ofLactobacillus acidophilus (Strain HF) was isolated from human faeces. A chloramphenicol resistant strain (HFCm) and a strain (HFCmSm) restant to both chloramphenicol and streptomycin were developed from the isolated strain (HF). All the three strains showed similarin vitro susceptibility against host defence factors like gastric acid, bile salts and volatile as well as non-volatile fatty acids.In vivo tests were done by feeding these strains to mice.
