Mixed populations of the twospotted spider mite (TSM),Tetranychus urticae (Koch), and the Banks grass mite (BGM),Oligonychus pratensis (Banks), occur on corn and sorghum plants in late summer in the Great Plains. Interspecific matings between these arrhenotokous species occur readily in the laboratory but yield no female offspring. The effect of interspecific mating on female: male sex ratios was measured by examining the F1 progeny of females that mated with both heterospecific and conspecific males in no-choice situations. TSM females that mated first with BGM males and then with TSM males produced a smaller percentage of female offspring than TSM females that mated only with TSM males (43.1±5.8 and 78.9±2.8% females, respectively). Similarly, BGM females mated with heterospecific males and then with conspecific males produced fewer female offspring than females mated only with BGM males (55.7±5.2 and 77.5±2.5%, respectively). Lower female: male sex ratios were produced also by BGM females that mated with TSM males after first mating with conspecifics (62.4±3.4%). In mixed populations containing males of both species, females also produced lower female: male sex ratios, but these ratios were not as low as expected based on mating propensities and progeny sex ratios observed in no-choice tests. These data suggest that interspecific mating may substantially reduce female fitness in both mite species by reducing the output of female offspring, but in mixed populations this effect is mitigated by unidentified behavioral mechanisms.  相似文献

Summary Recovery from winter depression of photosynthesis was studied in Pinus sylvestris, Pinus conforta and Picea abies by means of chlorophyll fluorescence and gas exchange measurements. During the winter 1986–1987 the fluorescence yield was low and no variable fluorescence was detectable before the end of March. In the field recovery of variable fluorescence/maximum fluorescence (Fv/Fm) during spring was slow for all three species studied. The temperature dependence of recovery was confirmed from measurements of the potential rate of recovery of Fv/Fm at different temperatures in the laboratory. At 20° C, Fv/Fm increased from 0.1 to 0.8 within 3 days. Recovery of Fv/Fm was paralleled by an increase in apparent photon yield. No significant differences could be demonstrated between the studied tree species in potential rate of recovery in the laboratory or in actual recovery in the field.  相似文献

Field collections in Puerto Rico revealed 4 behaviorally distinct isolates ofMuscidifurax uniraptor Kogan & Legner that differed initially in diapause and nondiapause emergence, and the age when ♀ progeny were produced. Subsequent F1 and F2 progeny differed in sex ratio and total progeny production. Mating F2 ♀ ♀ from nondiapause isolates to naturally emerging ♂ ♂ from thelytokous populations significantly reduced total progeny and the proportion of ♀ ♀ toca. 20 %. These mated ♀ ♀ at first resembled in behavior those which originated from diapausing parents. Random mating within all isolates beginning in the F3, resulted in a general lower survival and progeny production but was accompanied by a rise in sex ratio toca. 50% ♀ ♀ by the F6 generation. Summary Reproduction and development of Ips calligraphus (Germar) (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) occur primarily in the phloem (inner bark) tissue of its pine hosts. In slash pine (Pinus elliottii Engelm. var. elliottii), phloem thickness can vary widely from tree to tree. We compared adult residence time and fecundity and progeny development time, body size, and sex ratio of this beetle when reared in slash pine bolts and bark slabs with phloem thicker or thinner than average adult body width. Most studies were conducted at 20°, 25°, and 30° C. Residence time of parent males and females decreased with increasing temperature but it was not affected by phloem thickness. Residence time of parent males was about 2 days shorter than that of parent females at each temperature. Reproductive fitness was greater in thick phloem at all temperatures as measured by faster larval development, earlier emergence of progeny (F 1 ) adults, and emergence of more progeny adults per parent female. Progeny survival was similar between phloem those from thick phloem, and their sex ratio was female biased (1:2 vs 1:1, male:female). When allowed to inhabit thick phloem, the progeny (F 2) of adults from thin phloem were just as large and of similar sex ratio (1:1) as were progeny of F 1 adults from thick phloem. The high degree of plasticity in the life-history traits of this beetle may enable it to successfully colonize pines that vary widely in phloem thickness.  相似文献

The relative influence of the southern fire ant, Solenopsis xyloni McCook, Argentine ant, Linepithema humile (Mayr), and native gray ant, Formica aerata (Francoeur), on parasitism of California red scale, Aonidiella aurantii Maskell, was studied in the laboratory for two parasitoids, Comperiella bifasciata Howard and Aphytis melinus DeBach. All three ant species reduced percentage parasitism by C. bifasciata and both percentage parasitism and host mutilation by A. melinus. Southern fire ant was the least disruptive and native gray ant the most disruptive. Southern fire ant removed 12% of scale from the lemons, presumably to feed on them, while the other ant species did not exhibit significant removal of scale compared to the controls. Percentage parasitism of California red scale exhibited by C. bifasciata was more than 2-fold the level exhibited by A. melinus. Percentage mutilation of California red scale, including probing and host feeding, was nearly 5-fold higher for A. melinus than C. bifasciata. Because A. melinus required a longer total host examination + oviposition period in the absence of ants than C. bifasciata and because oviposition occurs as the last act in a sequence of behaviors, disruption by the ants had a more significant negative effect on oviposition by A. melinus.  相似文献

O-caffeoyltyrosine is a host recognition kairomone forAphytis melinus DeBach (Aphelinidae) found in the covers of its host, California red scale,Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell) (Diaspidae). This study tests the hypothesis that the concentration ofO-caffeoyltyrosine and scale cover size are reliable indicators of scale body size, an important component of host quality forA. melinus, over a range of scale rearing conditions. Both scale cover area andO-caffeoyltyrosine concentrations were only qualitatively related to scale body size during the third instar, the scale life stage most suitable forA. melinus. Scale cover area andO-caffeoyltyrosine concentrations were reduced, relative to scale body size, when scale were reared on bark and leaves compared to fruits. Scale cover area andO-caffeoyltyrosine concentration were also relatively reduced when scales were reared in mid-summer compared to spring and fall, and when reared on orange cultivars compared to lemon cultivars in the field. Finally, scale cover area andO-caffeoyltyrosine concentration were reduced when scale were reared at 52% compared to 100% humidity in the laboratory. Scales appear to be chemically conspicuous toA. melinus for a short period of the time in which they are physiologically susceptible. Scales that minimize their cover size and maximize the incorporation rate ofO-caffeoyltyrosine into covers may minimize their conspicuousness toA. melinus. Minimizing scale cover size, but not necessarily incorporation rates, may make scales more vulnerable to predators, however.  相似文献

Because male giant water bugs in the subfamily Belostomatinae provide parental care by brooding eggs on their back, an accurate assessment can be made of both the actual and potential reproductive capacity of males. Two operational sex-ratio (OSR) indices were developed and empirically measured for a population of giant water bug, Abedus indentatus,in California. One index was based on reproductive rates measured in the laboratory; the other index was based on reproductive resources observed in the field. Both OSR indices suggest that the operational sex ratio fluctuates between maleskewed ratios in the summer and femaleskewed ratios in the winter. This pattern appears to be the consequence of two factors. First, the adult sex ratio is significantly female biased. Second, although males can outreproduce females at high ambient temperatures, the reverse is true at low temperatures. Possible reasons for the female-skewed adult sex ratio are examined, including differential recruitment, differential mortality, and sampling bias.  相似文献

Aenasius arizonensis (Girault) is an important solitary endoparasitoid of Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley. To optimise the mass production of high-quality females, it is important to assess the influence of mating regimes on the progeny fitness and sex allocation. We, therefore, hypothesise that mating combinations in A. arizonensis adults emerged from different host instars may influence parasitism and sex allocation in the subsequent generation. Therefore, we compared three nymphal instars (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and adults host stages of Psolenopsis for parasitism and sex allocation by A. arizonensis. Further, F1 female progeny of the parasitoid emerged from different host instars was henceforth evaluated for its fitness in six mating combinations. A. arizonensis females parasitised all the host stages except the 1st instar nymphs. The parasitised 2nd instar nymphs yielded only males, while the sex ratio in the later host instars was strongly female-biased. The parasitoid females preferred 3rd instar nymphs with respect to higher parasitism (74.0–84.0%) and produced more females in the F1 progeny as compared to other host stages. F1 females that emerged from 3rd instar nymphs produced significantly higher parasitism (74.0–79.0%). These mating combinations also yielded more female progeny in the F2 generation. However, parasitism by F1 females was significantly lower (9.0–12.0%) when mated with males that emerged from 2nd instar P. solenopsis nymphs. Moreover, latter combinations yielded only male progeny in F2 generation. These findings can be used in laboratory mass rearing of this parasitoid vis-à-vis biological control of P. solenopsis.  相似文献

California is home to both the native state-threatened Sierra Nevada red fox (Vulpes vulpes necator), which historically inhabited high elevations of the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountains, and to multiple low-elevation red fox populations thought to be of exotic origin. During the past few decades the lowland populations have dramatically expanded their distribution, and possibly moved into the historic range of the native high-elevation fox. To determine whether the native red fox persists in its historic range in California, we compared mitochondrial cytochrome-b haplotypes of the only currently-known high-elevation population (n = 9 individuals) to samples from 3 modern lowland populations (n = 35) and historic (1911–1941) high-elevation (n = 22) and lowland (n = 7) populations. We found no significant population differentiation among the modern and historic high-elevation populations (average pairwise F ST = 0.06), but these populations differed substantially from all modern and historic lowland populations (average pairwise F ST = 0.52). Among lowland populations, the historic and modern Sacramento Valley populations were not significantly differentiated from one another (F ST = −0.06), but differed significantly from recently founded populations in the San Francisco Bay region and in southern California (average pairwise F ST = 0.42). Analysis of molecular variance indicated that 3 population groupings (mountain, Sacramento Valley, and other lowland regions) explained 45% of molecular variance (F CT = 0.45) whereas only 4.5% of the variance was partitioned among populations within these groupings (F SC = 0.08). These findings provide strong evidence that the native Sierra Nevada red fox has persisted in northern California. However, all nine samples from this population had the same haplotype, suggesting that several historic haplotypes may have become lost. Unidentified barriers have apparently prevented gene flow from the Sacramento Valley population to other eastern or southern populations in California. Future studies involving nuclear markers are needed to assess the origin of the Sierra Nevada red fox and to quantify levels of nuclear gene flow.  相似文献

Twelve Indian natural populations of Drosophila ananassae, a cosmopolitan and domestic species, were sampled and laboratory populations (mass cultures) were established from naturally impregnated females. These populations were maintained in the laboratory for some generations and were analysed chromosomally to know the frequency of different inversions. The chromosomal analysis revealed the presence of three cosmopolitan inversions. The data on the whole show that there are significant differences in the frequencies of different chromosome arrangements in these populations. Body size (wing length and thorax length) was measured in both sexes (50 females and 50 males), in all the 12 geographical populations of D. ananassae. There are statistically significant differences in wing length as well as in thorax length of both sexes among different geographical populations. Five geographical strains were crossed reciprocally and body size (wing length and thorax length) was measured in F1 and F2 progeny. The comparison of body size (both traits) between mid‐parent, F1 and F2 shows that there is an increase in body size in F1 and F2 progeny as compared with parents. Thus, there is no break down of heterosis in F2, which suggests absence of coadaptation in geographical populations of D. ananassae. Scaling test statistical analysis showed additive, dominance and epistatic effects in certain crosses involving geographical strains of D. ananassae. Correlation between chromosome arrangement frequency and body size has also been tested and significant negative correlation has been found between 2L – ST chromosome arrangement and male thorax.  相似文献

The predatory mirid Dicyphus hesperus Knight (Hemiptera: Miridae) is native to North America. The species has been used for the control of glasshouse whitefly on aubergine in the Netherlands, and is currently being evaluated for continued and wider release in Europe. Field and laboratory studies were conducted on a population collected from southern California, USA, to assess the cold tolerance and potential for outdoor establishment under prevailing northern European climates. The supercooling points (whole animal freezing temperatures) of nymphal and adult insects were around −20°C. The lethal temperatures (LTemp50) of non-diapausing nymphs and adults and diapausing adults were close to their respective freezing temperatures at −17.6, −17.6 and −19.2°C. At 5°C, the LTime50 was 54, 101.7 and 117.5 days for fed nymphs, non-diapausing and diapausing adults respectively. When first instar nymphs were placed in the field in winter, starved samples died out after 70 days, but 5% of the fed nymphs survived until the end of winter (140 days) and developed to adult on return to the laboratory. After a similar 5-month field exposure, 50% of fed diapausing adults and 15% of fed non-diapausing adults were still alive at the end of winter, whereas starved diapausing adults died after 140 days. On return to the laboratory after 5 months in the field, both diapausing and non-diapausing adults mated and laid eggs, forming viable populations. Overall, the field and laboratory experiments indicate that this population of D. hesperus is able to enter diapause and that winter temperatures are not a barrier to establishment in northern Europe.  相似文献

The introduced parasitoid,Aphytis melinusDeBach (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae), is used for augmentative biological control of California red scale,Aonidiella aurantii(Maskell) (Homoptera: Diaspididae). Commercially reared wasps are reared on oleander scale,Aspidiotus neriiBouché (Homoptera: Diaspididae). Oleander scale covers lack the chemical,O-caffeoyltyrosine, a kairomone mediating host selection byA. melinus.Wasps reared on oleander scale but individually exposed, or primed, toO-caffeoyltyrosine more readily accepted California red scale for probing in laboratory bioassays and parasitized a greater proportion of available California red scale in the field than wasps reared similarly but not exposed toO-caffeoyltyrosine. Thus, it may be possible to improve host recognition of commercial, insectary-rearedA. melinusby exposing them toO-caffeoyltyrosine prior to release. The goal of this study was to develop an inexpensive but effective means of priming thousands of wasps simultaneously toO-caffeoyltyrosine. The most effective method, but potentially the most expensive, was simply to spray parasitized oleander scale on their host plant with diluteO-caffeoyltyrosine prior to wasp emergence. In additional experiments, using controlled doses of syntheticO-caffeoyltyrosine applied to scale covers, we showed that primed wasps require both a lower minimum dose ofO-caffeoyltyrosine for recognition and also respond to measuredO-caffeoyltyrosine doses more consistently than unprimed wasps. The ability to mass-prime thousands of wasps prior to release is a crucial step toward realizing the concept of behavioral improvement of host selection of parasitoids on a commercial scale.  相似文献

Mastrus ridens (Horstmann) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) was imported into quarantine as a potential biocontrol agent for codling moth, Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae). Mating behaviour of the parasitoid and its effect on progeny sex ratio (as a proportion of males) were studied to help sustain the laboratory culture. Both females and males were reproductively active soon after emergence. Unmated females produced only male progeny, confirming males developed from unfertilized eggs. The proportion of males in a progeny was independent of the copulation period (24–40 s) of the parents. The progeny sex ratios from three parent ratios (f:m 2:1, 1:1 and 1:2) were not significantly different. Females effectively mated only once but males mated frequently in their lifetime. The progeny sex ratios from single females with a known single mating and possible multiple matings (through exposure to two males for 18 days) were not significantly different. However, when males copulated with five virgin females in sequence over a 2 h period, the fifth female produced more males than the preceding four, presumably due to sperm depletion. Results of this study provide data on progeny sex allocation of M. ridens that help to prevent the development of a male-biased sex ratio that could threaten the maintenance of the culture over time.  相似文献

The introduced parasitoid, Aphytis melinus DeBach (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae), utilizes a kairomone, O-caffeoyltyrosine, to recognize California red scale, Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell) (Homoptera: Diaspididae). Wasps used in augmentative release programs for California red scale on California citrus are reared on oleander scale, Aspidiotus nerii Bouché (Homoptera: Diaspididae), themselves reared on squash. The goals of this study were: 1) to determine if long-term rearing on oleander scale had caused A. melinus to develop a preference for oleander scale, and 2) to determine if the preference of oleander-reared A. melinus for California red scale might be enhanced by exposing them to synthetic O-caffeoyltyrosine prior to release. Wasps that were removed from their hosts as pupae and allowed to emerge as adults isolated from their hosts retained a strong preference for California red scale regardless of rearing host. This preference was reduced if wasps were allowed to emerge from oleander scale, thus acquiring early adult experience with oleander scale. The preference for California red scale was restored, however, by exposing wasps reared on oleander scale to synthetic O-caffeoyltyrosine prior to bioassay. Exposure of A. melinus reared in commercial insectaries to O-caffeoyltyrosine prior to release may be a means to improve the effectiveness of such wasps in augmentative release programs to control California red scale.  相似文献

The sex ratio is an important parameter which characterizes the state and dynamics of natural populations of animals. Although ixodid ticks are specialized ectoparasites, most species are bisexual and are characterized by a 1:1 sex ratio for their progeny. In natural populations and even in laboratory colonies, biased sex ratios are often observed. Ixodes rubicundus, the Karoo paralysis tick, parasitizes domestic stock and wild ungulates in South Africa. Adults quest from vegetation, can mate off or on the host and males are seldom parasitic. We hypothesized that the sex ratio for I. rubicundus would be 1:1 when observed directly in the progeny but that it would be strongly biased towards females in samples of parasitic adults. The results mostly supported the hypothesis but it was also shown that unexplained and unpredictable variations can occur. On hosts, females dominated strongly, except on adult angora goats where the sex ratio was biased in favour of the males. This disparity may be related to a greater retention of males in the coarse, curly hair of angora goats compared to the other hosts. Monthly variations in the sex ratios of the tick on hosts are believed to be related to the large fluctuations in sex ratios of questing ticks.  相似文献

Laboratory trials were conducted to test the side-effects of the insecticides chlorpyrifos-methyl, buprofezin, pyriproxifen, spinosad and a narrow range mineral oil on Aphytis melinus DeBach, Coccophagus lycimnia Walker (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) and Leptomastix dactylopii Howard (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae). The effects of chlorpyrifos-methyl, spinosad and pyriproxifen were also investigated in semi-field conditions on L. dactylopii. Contact toxicity on adult female parasitoids after 24, 48 and 72 h, the effects on their fertility as well as the sex ratio of the progeny were measured. In the laboratory trials chlorpyrifos-methyl and spinosad caused 100% mortality on all tested parasitoids just 24 h after the treatment. According to the IOBC classification, the mineral oil was slightly harmful on L. dactylopii; buprofezin was harmful on C. lycimnia, and slightly harmful on L. dactylopii and A. melinus; pyriproxifen resulted moderately harmful on C. lycimnia and slightly harmful on L. dactylopii and A. melinus. The progeny production of each L. dactylopii surviving female treated with buprofezin was not affected by the treatment while in the case of A. melinus it was significantly reduced. C. lycimnia females treated with pyriproxifen did not produce any progeny. In semi-field conditions the tested insecticides were less harmful to L. dactylopii adults but, although none of them influenced the progeny production of the survived females, the longevity was negatively affected.  相似文献

There has been very little empirical study of quantitative genetic variation in flower size in sexually dimorphic plant species, despite the frequent occurrence of flower size differences between sexual phenotypes. In this study we quantify the nature of quantitative flower size variation in females and hermaphrodites of gynodioecious Thymus vulgaris. In a field study, females had significantly smaller flowers than hermaphrodites, and the degree of flower size dimorphism varied significantly among populations. To quantify the genetic basis of flower size variation we sampled maternal progeny from 10 F0 females in three populations (across the range of variation in flower size in the field), performed controlled crosses on F1 offspring in the glasshouse and grew F2 progeny to flowering in uniform field conditions. A significant population * sex interaction was again observed, hence the degree of sexual dimorphism shows genetic variation among populations. A significant family * sex interaction was also observed, indicating that the degree of sexual dimorphism shows genetic variation among families. Females showed significantly greater variation among populations and among families than hermaphrodites. Female flower size varied significantly depending on the degree of stamen abortion, with morphologically intermediate females having flowers more similar to hermaphrodites than to other females. The frequency of female types that differ in the degree of stamen abortion varied among populations and families and mean family female flower size increased as the proportion of intermediate female types increased across families. Variation in the degree of flower size dimorphism thus appears to be a result of variation in the degree of stamen abortion in females, the potential causes of which are discussed.  相似文献

Most sex ratios reported for Silene latifolia are female biased. As a result of experiments performed by Correns in the early 1900s, pollen tube competition has generally been accepted as the primary cause of these skewed ratios. We did four sets of hand pollinations in which we varied the size of pollen loads and placement of pollen along the filamentous stigma. The effect of pollen load size on progeny sex ratios was not statistically significant. Of 32 maternal families, 17 contained more females than males (one ratio deviated statistically from 1:1), and 13 contained more males than females. Paternal families exhibited a greater range of sex ratios, including three with a significant female bias and one with a significant male bias. Within experiments, neither the maternal parent nor where pollen was placed had a statistically significant effect on progeny sex ratios; the paternal effect was significant in one experiment. We suggest that sex ratios in Silene latifolia are not necessarily affected by the level of pollen competition. Other factors, including variation among males and sex-linked mortality, may help explain the skewed sex ratios that characterize populations of this species. Further, Correns' observations of excess females may have resulted from his use of interspecific hybrids.  相似文献

Sensitivity to cold and freezing differs between populations within two species of live oaks (Quercus section Virentes Nixon) corresponding to the climates from which they originate. Two populations of Quercus virginiana (originating from North Carolina and north central Florida) and two populations of the sister species, Q. oleoides, (originating from Belize and Costa Rica) were grown under controlled climate regimes simulating tropical and temperate conditions. Three experiments were conducted in order to test for differentiation in cold and freezing tolerance between the two species and between the two populations within each species. In the first experiment, divergences in response to cold were tested for by examining photosystem II (PS II) photosynthetic yield (ΔF/F m′) and non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) of plants in both growing conditions after short-term exposure to three temperatures (6, 15 and 30°C) under moderate light (400 μmol m−2 s−1). Without cold acclimation (tropical treatment), the North Carolina population showed the highest photosynthetic yield in response to chilling temperatures (6°C). Both ecotypes of both species showed maximum ΔF/F m′ and minimum NPQ at their daytime growth temperatures (30°C and 15°C for the tropical and temperate treatments, respectively). Under the temperate treatment where plants were allowed to acclimate to cold, the Q. virginiana populations showed greater NPQ under chilling temperatures than Q. oleoides populations, suggesting enhanced mechanisms of photoprotective energy dissipation in the more temperate species. In the second and third experiments, inter- and intra-specific differentiation in response to freezing was tested for by examining dark-adapted F v/F m before and after overnight freezing cycles. Without cold acclimation, the extent of post-freezing declines in F v/F m were dependent on the minimum freezing temperature (0, −2, −5 or −10°C) for both populations in both species. The most marked declines in F v/F m occurred after freezing at −10°C, measured 24 h after freezing. These declines were continuous and irreversible over the time period. The North Carolina population, however, which represents the northern range limit of Q. virginiana, showed significantly less decline in F v/F m than the north central Florida population, which in turn showed a lower decline in Fv/F m than the two Q. oleoides populations from Belize and Costa Rica. In contrast, after exposure to three months of chilling temperatures (temperate treatment), the two Q. virginiana populations showed no decline in F v/F m after freezing at −10°C, while the two Q. oleoides populations showed declines in F v/F m reaching 0.2 and 0.1 for Costa Rica and Belize, respectively. Under warm growth conditions, the two species showed different F 0 dynamics directly after freezing. The two Q. oleoides populations showed an initial rise in F 0 30 min after freezing, followed by a subsequent decrease, while the Q. virginiana populations showed a continuous decrease in F 0 after freezing. The North Carolina population of Q. virginiana showed a tendency toward deciduousness in response to winter temperatures, dropping 58% of its leaves over the three month winter period compared to only 6% in the tropical treatment. In contrast, the Florida population dropped 38% of its leaves during winter. The two populations of the tropical Q. oleoides showed no change in leaf drop during the 3-months winter (10% and 12%) relative to their leaf drop over the same timecourse in the tropical treatment. These results indicate important ecotypic differences in sensitivity to freezing and cold stress between the two populations of Q. virginiana as well as between the two species, corresponding to their climates of origin.  相似文献

Two sibling species, Helicoverpa assulta and Helicoverpa armigera both use (Z)-9-hexadecenal and (Z)-11-hexadecenal as their sex pheromone components but in almost reversed ratios, 93:7 and 3:97, respectively. H. assulta and H. armigera males performed upwind flight in response to the H. assulta sex pheromone blend (93:7). H. armigera responded strongly to the H. armigera blend (3:97), whereas H. assulta males remained inactive upon exposure to this blend. Both species gave clear dose-dependent electrophysiological responses to (Z)-11-hexadecenal. However, (Z)-9-hexadecenal evoked strong dose-dependent electrophysiological responses in H. assulta males but not in H. armigera. The two male F1 hybrids exhibited similar behavioral responses to two sex pheromone blends and electrophysiological responses to two pheromone components as H. armigera males. This indicated that H. armigera genes appear dominant in determining the behavioral response and electrophysiological responses. Behavioral and electrophysiological responses of backcrosses of male F1 hybrids (H. armigera female × H. assulta male) with female H. assulta and H. armigera were close to that of H. assulta and H. armigera, respectively. However, backcrosses of female F1 hybrids (H. assulta female × H. armigera male) with male H. assulta and H. armigera showed reduced behavioral responses but normal electrophysiological responses compared to males of the respective parental line.  相似文献
