The present study aims to investigate the age-related and seasonal variations in plasma uncarboxylated osteocalcin (UcOCN) in male Murrah buffaloes. In experiment 1, body weight, body dimensions and plasma UcOCN levels were estimated in 120 male Murrah buffaloes aged between 18 days and 8 years. We observed a significant (p < 0.0001) decrease in plasma UcOCN with age and their levels ranged between 0.25 and 9.25 ng/ml. In experiment 2, the plasma UcOCN, cortisol, triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4) and prolactin levels were determined during spring and summer in 6–34 months (n = 24) old male Murrah buffaloes. Significant (p < 0.0001) higher plasma UcOCN levels were observed in spring than in summer. The plasma T3 and T4 levels were positively correlated with plasma UcOCN, whereas the plasma cortisol and prolactin were negatively correlated. Further, to observe the effect of season on temporal variations of UcOCN, Murrah buffaloes aged between 4–6 (n = 5), 14–16 (n = 5) and 28–30 (n = 5) months were bled at an interval of 30 min, between 0700 and 01030 h, during both the seasons. We observed significant effects of season (p < 0.0001), age (p < 0.0001) and season-by-age interaction (p < 0.01) on plasma UcOCN. The reasons for variations in plasma UcOCN with age and season will be discussed.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the endocrine profiles of growth hormone (GH), testosterone and their interrelationship in prepubertal, pubertal and orchiectomised male Murrah buffaloes under starving conditions. The prepubertal and pubertal buffaloes were subjected to frequent blood sampling over 24 h at an interval of 1 h, whereas in orchiectomised buffaloes, the blood samples were collected over 18 h. Irrespective of group, the GH concentrations fluctuated in an episodic manner over 24 h and the fluctuations did not exhibit a consistent pattern between the animals of each group. The mean basal and peak concentrations of GH did not differ significantly (p > 0.05) among the groups. A significant (p > 0.0001) difference in testosterone concentrations was observed between prepubertal and pubertal groups. The differences in mean basal and peak testosterone concentrations between the prepubertal and pubertal groups were also significant (p < 0.01). The associations between testosterone and GH levels in both prepubertal (r = 0.15; p > 0.05) and pubertal (r = ?0.37; p > 0.05) buffaloes were non-significant. The possible reasons for erratic episodic pattern of GH secretion will be discussed.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to elucidate the effects of chromium (Cr) supplementation as inorganic Cr (CrCl3?·?6H2O) on energy balance, lipid peroxidation, and lactation performance in periparturient Murrah buffaloes. Twenty-four multiparous Murrah buffaloes according to lactation, parity, body mass, and expected calving date were divided equally. Experimental buffaloes were randomly assigned to four treatment diets: a control diet and three diets with an inorganic Cr supplementation at 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mg of Cr/kg dry matter (DM), respectively from 60 days before expected calving date until 60 days of lactation. Milk productions of buffaloes were recorded every day until 60 days in milk. Blood samples were collected at days ?60, ?45, ?30,?21, ?15, ?7, ?3, 0, 7, 15, 21, 30, 45, and 60 days relative to actual calving for determination of plasma glucose, nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA), thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), total cholesterol, total protein, albumin, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and minerals. Adding inorganic Cr to the diet of Murrah buffaloes increased milk yield. Percentage of fat and total solid yield increased significantly through the experiment in the Cr-supplemented group. At the day of calving, buffaloes showed a decrease in dry matter intake (DMI), plasma glucose, and zinc (Zn) and Cr concentrations. In contrast, plasma NEFA, TBARS, and copper (Cu) levels were found highest at the day of calving among all groups. Cr supplementation increased peripheral blood glucose concentration while decreased level of NEFA and TBARS was recorded in Cr-fed buffaloes. Supplemental Cr had no effect on plasma cholesterol, total protein, albumin, and BUN in periparturient period. Dietary Cr supplementation had positive effect on plasma Cr concentration, but the plasma concentration of Cu, Zn, and iron (Fe) was not affected by different dietary Cr level supplementation. The results suggest that dietary inorganic Cr supplementation improved milk yield by reducing negative energy balance and lipid peroxidation in buffaloes during periparturient period.  相似文献

Twelve Murrah buffaloes were selected from the institute herd and acoustic features like call duration, amplitude, total energy, mean pitch, mean intensity, formants (F1, F2, F3, F4, and F5), and N/H (Noise to Harmonic) ratio were analyzed. Call duration was significantly higher on day of estrus (1.52 ± 0.07 s) and proestrus (1.44 ± 0.07 s) than in metestrus (1.241 ± 0.04 s) and diestrus stages (0.981 ± 0.05 s). Total energy (0.121 ± 0.01 P2s), mean pitch (226.67 ± 14.11 Hz), maximum amplitude (0.959 ± 0.01 P), and mean intensity (85.05 ± 0.26 dB) was more (p < 0.05) in proestrus than in other stages. F1 (1131.94 ± 11.85 Hz) and F5 formants (6567.74 ± 12.62 Hz) were significantly higher (p < 0.05) during estrus, while F2 (2238.46 ± 26.53 Hz), F3 (3435.00 ± 19.33 Hz), and F4 formants (5127.71 ± 25.90 Hz) were higher (p < 0.05) in proestrus in comparison to other stages of estrous cycle. The identified acoustic features of voice in Murrah buffaloes were signficantly different in various stages of estrous cycle. These could be used as a tool for estrus detection management in buffaloes which have probems of silent estrus.  相似文献

Thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) plasma concentrations have been determined during 24-hr sampling periods in six mongrels (age 12-36 months), six beagles (age 35-37 months), three labradors (age 3.5 months) and three beagles (age 5 months). The mean T4 levels of the labradors were significantly lower than the values found for mongrels or older beagles (P < 0.05), whereas T3 was higher in the 5 month old beagles compared to the mongrels (P < 0.001), young beagles (P < 0.05) or labradors (P < 0.01).

Circadian and ultradian rhythmicities have been evaluated by cosinor and Fourier analysis. Mongrels and older beagles did have a 12-hr rhythmicity in plasma T4 (P < 0.05), whereas 5 month old beagles had a circadian one (P < 0.01). A 12-hr rhythmicity was also found for T3 in the older Beagles (P < 0.05). However, Fourier analysis indicated that the daily variation in T4 and T3 plasma levels was inadequately mathematically described by single sinusoidal rhythm and that more harmonic components are to be taken into account.

The obtained data during a 24-hr period indicate that T4 and T3 concentrations in plasma may vary according to breed, age and sampling hour.  相似文献

The present study investigated whether increasing morning rectal temperatures (Trec) to evening levels, or increasing morning and evening Trec to an “optimal” level (38.5°C), resulting in increased muscle temperatures (Tm), would offset diurnal variation in repeated sprint (RS) performance in a causal manner. Twelve trained males underwent five sessions [age (mean ± SD) 21.0 ± 2.3 years, maximal oxygen consumption (V?O2max) 60.0 ± 4.4 mL.kg–1 min–1, height 1.79 ± 0.06 m, body mass 78.2 ± 11.8 kg]. These included control morning (M, 07:30 h) and evening (E, 17:30 h) sessions (5-min warm-up), and three further sessions consisting of a warm-up morning trial (ME, in 39–40°C water) until Trec reached evening levels; two “optimal” trials in the morning and evening (M38.5 and E38.5, in 39–40°C water) respectively, until Trec reached 38.5°C. All sessions included 3 × 3-s task-specific warm-up sprints, thereafter 10 × 3-s RS with 30-s recoveries were performed a non-motorised treadmill. Trec and Tm measurements were taken at the start of the protocol and following the warm-up periods. Values for Trec and Tm at rest were higher in the evening compared to morning values (0.48°C and 0.69°C, p < 0.0005). RS performance was lower (7.8–8.3%) in the M for distance covered (DC; p = 0.002), average power (AP; p = 0.029) and average velocity (AV; p = 0.002). Increasing Trec in the morning to evening values or optimal values (38.5°C) did not increase RS performance to evening levels (p = 1.000). However, increasing Trec in the evening to “optimal” level through a passive warm-up significantly reduced DC (p = 0.008), AP (p < 0.0005) and AV (p = 0.007) to values found in the M condition (6.0–6.9%). Diurnal variation in Trec and Tm is not wholly accountable for time-of-day oscillations in RS performance on a non-motorised treadmill; the exact mechanism(s) for a causal link between central temperature and human performance are still unclear and require more research.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate differences in efficiency of feed utilisation between buffalo calves with low and high residual feed intake (RFI) by comparing feed intake, nutrient digestibility, growth traits and blood metabolites. Eighteen male Murrah buffalo calves (aged 4–6 months; 70 ± 1.0 kg body weight) were fed ad libitum with a total mixed ration for 120 d. Based on linear regression models involving dry matter intake (DMI), average daily gain (ADG) and mid-test metabolic body size, calves were assigned into low and high RFI groups. The RFI varied from ?0.33 to +0.28 kg DM/d with an average RFI of ?0.14 and 0.14 kg DM/d in low and high RFI calves, respectively. Calves had a mean DMI of 1.9 and 2.4 kg/d and an ADG of 0.5 and 0.6 kg/d in low and high RFI groups, respectively. Low RFI calves ate 19.0% less DM each day and required significantly less metabolisable energy for maintenance compared with high RFI calves (12.5 vs. 16.7 MJ/d). Nutrient digestibility and nitrogen balance did not differ among low and high RFI calves. In more efficient animals (low RFI calves) higher (p < 0.05) plasma level of growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), triiodothyronine (T3) and lower concentration of thyroxin hormone were detected. No significant differences in levels of insulin, hydroxyproline, plasma and urine creatinine, total protein and albumin between high and low RFI groups were found. Blood metabolites showed significant (< 0.05) differences at initial and final stages of study in both groups. At final stage of study, RFI showed negative correlations with growth hormone, IGF-1, T3, urine creatinine and albumin. Low RFI buffalo calves are more efficient in feed utilisation and the differences in blood metabolites are probably due to differences in feed intake and body metabolism.  相似文献

The medical career is considered highly stressful, especially during internships when academic and clinical demands, combined with changes in sleep patterns, increase students’ likelihood to develop depression. Resilience, which is considered as opposite vulnerability to stress and, along with another protective factor, namely morningness, may cause a student to be less reactive to stimuli and, therefore, less prone to depression. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of resilience and morningness facing to sleep quality and main risk factors, on the development of depression symptoms in a group of students with sleep pattern alterations. To this end, an observational and longitudinal study was performed with 30 undergraduate interns, with an average age of 22.63 years (SE ± 0.13), 33% men and 67% women. A survey was conducted in three different times during the year of internship: at the beginning (T1), in the middle (T2) and the end (T3). The instruments were the Brief Resilience Scale, Composite Scale of Morningness, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Patient Health Questionnaire. The path analysis examined the roles of morningness, sleep quality and resilience as potential mediators between family history of depression and depression symptoms at different times. The results showed that resilience had a protective effect on depression symptoms at T2 (β = ?0.18, p < 0.05) and with greater power at T3 (β = ?0.41, p < 0.05), as did morningness, although less strongly, on the symptoms at T3 (β = ?0.13, p < 0.05). A relationship between these two mediating variables was also observed (β = 0.30, p < 0.05). The initial sleep quality had an effect on the increase of depression symptoms at T1 (β = 0.61, p < 0.05) and T3 (β = 0.21, p < 0.05), while family history of depression had a direct effect on the measures of depression at T2 (β = 0.49, p < 0.05) and T3 (β = 0.19, p < 0.05). Aside from personal risk factors, it is possible to conclude that the levels of resilience, morningness and sleep quality manifested by students at the beginning of their internship may explain the decrease in depression symptoms at the end of the course.  相似文献

The correct expression of circadian rhythmicity is crucial for the body homeostasis. The rest-activity circadian rhythms (RARs) are involved in the control of the sleep-wake cycle and altered RARs could lead to a compromised health status. Many studies focused on examining sleep behavior and circadian rhythms in physically active subjects or athletes but, unexpectedly, no data on RARs are available. Therefore, we studied the existence of the RAR in athletes and the possible difference in RAR’s characteristics among sport disciplines. The study had a prospective observational design and RARs were recorded for five consecutive training days through actigraphy (Actiwatch 2 actigraph; Philips Respironics, OR, USA) in 43 athletes (mean age: 25.6 ± 3.2 years). Athletes competed in three different disciplines and had different training schedules and competition levels: professional triathletes (N = 10; 6 females and 4 males) had 2 morning (08:30–12:00) and 1 afternoon (15:00–17:00) training sessions, professional volleyball players (N = 19; 12 females and 7 males) used to train once in the morning (09:00–11:30) and once in the afternoon (15:00–18:00), and non-professional soccer players (N = 14; all males) trained always late in the evening (20:30–22:30). To determine the existence of RARs, the activity counts (A.C.) data were analyzed using the single and the population mean cosinor method; a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by the Tukey–Kramer post-hoc test was used for the comparison of RAR characteristics among soccer, volleyball and triathlon athletes. Partial eta squared (?p2) was used to determine the magnitude of the effect for significant outcomes (α = 0.05) in ANOVA. The presence of a significant RAR both for each of the 43 athletes (p < 0.001) and for the three categories of athletes (p < 0.001) was observed. RARs differed among sport disciplines: the Midline Estimating Statistic of Rhythm (MESOR) was significantly higher in triathletes (mean: 347 A.C. with 95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 314–379) compared to both volleyball (mean: 188 A.C. with 95% CI: 173–203; p < 0.001) and soccer players (mean: 289 A.C. with 95% CI: 267–312; p < 0.01) with ?p2 = 0.72. Amplitude (A) values showed the same significant trend of MESOR data (ANOVA: p < 0.001; ?p2 = 0.65) while the acrophase (Φ) occurred at 18:28 for soccer players, significantly later than triathlon (15:20 h; p < 0.001) and volleyball players (16:24 h; p < 0.001) (ANOVA: p < 0.001; ?p2 = 0.84). The higher training duration and intensity reached by triathlon athletes in the morning sessions caused a phase advance of their RAR’s acrophase Φ and higher MESOR and A amplitude compared to volleyball players and triathletes. Therefore, different sport disciplines require different training schedules, training loads and intensities that translate into different RARs. Strength coaches and medical staff of professional teams should strongly consider actigraphy as a practical and powerful tool to monitor RARs, sleep behavior, and the activity levels of their athletes; highlighting potential circadian disruptions through actigraphy could be helpful to prevent musculoskeletal injuries.  相似文献

Bromocriptine, a dopamine D2 agonist, inhibits seasonal fattening and improves seasonal insulin resistance in Syrian hamsters. Alterations in daily rhythms of neuroendocrine activities are involved in the regulation of seasonal metabolic changes. Changes in circadian neuroendocrine activities that regulate metabolism are believed to be modulated by central circadian oscillators within the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN) of seasonal animals. We examined the association of metabolic responses to bromocriptine with its effects on the daily rhythms of metabolic hormones and daily monoamine profiles within the SCN, a primary circadian pacemaker known to regulate metabolism, in Syrian hamsters. Obese glucose-intolerant male Syrian hamsters (body weight [BW] 185 ± 10 g) held on 14h daily photoperiods were treated at light onset with bromocriptine (800 μg/animal/day, ip) or vehicle for 2 weeks. Animals were then subjected to a glucose tolerance test (GTT) (3 g/kg BW, ip). Different subsets of animals (n = 6) from each treatment group were sacrificed at 0h/24h, 5h, 10h, 15h, or 20h after light onset for analyses of SCN monoamines, plasma insulin, prolactin, cortisol, thyroxin (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), glucose, and free fatty acids (FFAs). Compared with control values, bromocriptine treatment significantly reduced weight gain (14.9 vs. ?2.9 g, p <. 01) and the areas under the GTT glucose and insulin curves by 29% and 48%, respectively (p <. 05). Basal plasma insulin concentration was markedly reduced throughout the day in bromocriptine-treated animals without influencing plasma glucose levels. Bromocriptine reduced the daily peak in FFA by 26% during the late light span(p <. 05). Bromocriptine significantly shifted the daily plasma cortisol peak from the early dark to the light period of the day, reduced the plasma prolactin (mean 1.8 vs. 39.4 ng/dL) and T4 throughout the day (mean 1.6 vs. 3.8 μg/dL), and selectively reduced T3 during the dark period of the day (p <. 01). Concurrently, bromocriptine treatment significantly reduced SCN dopamine turnover during the light period and shifted daily peaks of SCN serotonin and 5-hydroxy-indoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) content by 12h from the light to the dark period of the day (p <. 05). This was confirmed by a further in vivo microdialysis study in which bromocriptine increased SCN extracellular 5-HIAA of glucose-intolerant hamsters during the dark phase (47% increase, p <. 05) toward levels observed in normal glucose-tolerant hamsters. Thus, bromocriptine-induced resetting of daily patterns of SCN neurotransmitter metabolism is associated with the effects of bromocriptine on attenuation of the obese insulin-resistant and glucose-intolerant condition. A large body of corroborating evidence suggests that such bromocriptine-induced changes in SCN monoamine metabolism may be functional in its effects on metabolism. Analysis of affective picture processing by means of EEG has invaded the literature. The methodology of event-related EEG coherence is one of the essential methods used to analyze functional connectivity. The aims of the present study are to find out the long range EEG connectivity changes in perception of different affective pictures and analyze gender differences in these long range connected networks. EEGs of 28 healthy subjects (14 female) were recorded at 32 locations. The participants passively viewed emotional pictures (IAPS, unpleasant, pleasant, neutral). The long-distance intra-hemispheric event-related coherence was analyzed for delta (1–3.5 Hz), theta (4–7.5 Hz), and alpha (8–13 Hz) frequency ranges for F3–T7, F4–T8, F3–TP7, F4–TP8, F3–P3, F4–P4, F3–O1, F4–O2, C3–O1, C4–O2 electrode pairs. Unpleasant pictures elicited significantly higher delta coherence values than neutral pictures (p < 0.05), over fronto-parietal, fronto-occipital, and centro-occipital electrode pairs. Furthermore, unpleasant pictures elicited higher theta coherence values than pleasant (p < 0.05) and neutral pictures (p < 0.05). The present study showed that female subjects had higher delta (p < 0.05) and theta (p < 0.05) coherence values than male subjects. This difference was observed more for emotional pictures than for neutral pictures. This study showed that the brain connectivity was higher during emotional pictures than neutral pictures. Females had higher connectivity between different parts of the brain than males during emotional processes. According to these results, we may comment that increased valence and arousal caused increased brain activity. It seems that not just single sources but functional networks were also activated during perception of emotional pictures.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to examine the biochemical influence of feeding high dietary fibre (DF) diets formulated from by-products from the vegetable and agricultural industries to sows during early to mid-gestation. The effect of feeding frequency (once vs. twice daily) on diurnal plasma metabolites patterns was also examined. The study included a total of 48 gestating sows from four blocks (12 gestating sows in each block). The sows were fed four different diets containing varying levels of starch (304–519 g/kg dry matter (DM)) and DF (171–404 g/kg DM) but with equal amounts of net energy. The low-DF diet (control) was based on barley and wheat, and the three high-DF diets formulated by replacing barley and wheat by pectin residue, sugar beet pulp and potato pulp, respectively. The experimental design comprised two periods of 4 weeks each. Half the sows were fed once daily at 08:00 h in the first period and twice daily at 08:00 and 15:00 h during the second period, and vice versa for the other half of the sows. Plasma samples from vena jugularis were collected by venipuncture at 07:00, 09:00, 12:00 and 19:00 h. Feeding high-DF increased plasma short-chain fatty acids (p = 0.02) and non-esterified fatty acids (p < 0.001). However, there was no clear effect of DF on glucose and insulin responses. A negative correlation between amount of DF in the diets and plasma creatine (R 2 = 1.00; diet effect: p = 0.02) suggested that plasma creatine concentrations was an indicator for the level of glucose–glycogen interchange. Furthermore, an explorative approach using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy-based metabonomics identified betaine (p < 0.001), dimethyl sulfone (DMSO2; p < 0.001) and scyllo-inositol (p < 0.001) as biomarkers for the different by-products; pectin residue was related to high plasma levels of DMSO2, sugar beet pulp to plasma betaine, DMSO2 and scyllo-inositol, and potato pulp to plasma DMSO2 and scyllo-inositol. In conclusion, replacing starch by DF affected surprisingly few metabolites in peripheral plasma. No negative effects were found in feeding pectin residue, sugar beet pulp or potato pulp for gestating sows as judged from the minor metabolic changes.  相似文献

To evolve eco-friendly management of fenugreek root rot caused by Rhizoctonia solani, a field trial was conducted during Kharif 2002 and Rabi seasons of 2002–2003 and 2003–2004. Experiments were conducted with eight treatments and three replications in RBD using the variety CO-2. The pooled analysis of the three season data showed that seed treatment with Trichoderma viride at 4g/kg of seed + soil application of Trichoderma viride at 5 kg/ha + soil application of neem cake at 150 kg/ha (T3) recorded a percent disease index (PDI) of 23.1 versus 65.5 PDI in the control which accounted for a disease reduction of 64.7%. It was on par with seed treatment with Trichoderma viride at 4g/kg of seed + soil application of T. viride at 5 kg/ha (T2) which reduced the disease incidence by 62.3% (24.7 PDI). The chemical treatment used for comparison, i.e. seed treatment with carbendazim + soil drenching at 0.1% + soil application of neem cake at 150 kg/ha recorded the lowest PDI of 16.8 with 74.4% disease reduction. Among the various treatments T3 gave a seed yield of 572.7 kg/ha followed by T2 (555.7 kg/ha). Treatment T7 recorded the highest yield of 578.7 kg/ha. In the control plot the recorded yield was only 359.3 kg/ha. Though T3 was more effective at reducing the disease incidence than T2, the C:B ratio was higher (1:9.1) in respect of T2 than T3, which gave a C:B ratio of only 1:3.9. Hence, seed treatment with T. viride at 4g/kg + soil application of T. viride at 5kg/ha is a cost effective, eco-friendly management strategy for fenugreek root rot.  相似文献

The seeds of chilgoza pine (Pinus gerardiana) show moderate germination and not retain better germinability under normal ambient storage. In the present study, five storage containers [polythene bags (C1), plastic jars (C2), canvas bags (C3), earthen pots (C4) and tin boxes (C5)] and four temperature regimes (19–22 °C) (room temperature, T1), 0 ± 1 °C (T2), ?4 ± 1 °C (T3) and 4 ± 1 °C (T4) were tested and the suitable seed storage conditions of chilgoza pine to retain viability were standardized. The storage devices preserve and retain viability trend of C4 > C3 > C1 > C2 > C5 and T2 > T3 > T4 > T1 in the species throughout the storage period. However, the interaction treatment (C4T2) of earthen pots under 0 ± 1 °C temperature regime maintained significantly (P < 0.05) maximum germinability after 9 months (58.3 %) followed by C3T2 and C4T3 (47.5 %) as compared to other storage conditions. Notably, a sharp decline in germinability was recorded in seeds stored in tin boxes placed at room temperature. The implementation of these results for conservation management, especially nursery development and sustainable utilization of P. gerardiana in Himalayan region, has been suggested.  相似文献

The role of lactogenic hormones (prolactin, growth hormone, cortisol and thyroid hormone) on lactation yield in Mithun cows as well as their rhythmicity throughout the lactation cycle were studied in Mizoram (n = 4) and Nagaland (n = 7) strain of mithun (Bos frontalis). Blood samples were collected from all the animals from the day of calving to the complete dry off at an interval of 15 days. All the hormones were estimated in the serum by commercially available ELISA kits. Plasma level of cortisol (μg/dl), growth hormone (GH, in ng/ml), prolactin (PRL, in μIU/ml), triiodothyronine (T3, in nmol/μl) and thyroxin (T4, in ng/ml) were 20.84 ± 0.29, 28.08 ± 0.56, 9.87 ± 0.20, 27.82 ± 0.56 and 51.33 ± 0.48, respectively, in mithun irrespective of strains during the lactation period. Levels of all the hormones varied significantly (p ≤ 0.01) during different days of lactation cycle but, there was no significant difference among strain. Levels of PRL, GH, cortisol and T3 were significantly (p < 0.01) higher around calving and declined sharply. The hormones remained in almost steady state during mid-lactation and declined during late lactation. All the hormones stated above were positively correlated with lactational yield thus their role on lactogenesis and galactopoiesis was established.  相似文献

We investigated vacancy-assisted self-diffusion in germanium by means of kinetic lattice Monte Carlo (KLMC) simulations below the melting temperature, for a vacancy concentration of 1 × 1018/cm3. At higher temperatures, fewer clusters formed, but there was less variation in the number of clusters than at lower temperatures as the time increased. Equilibrium diffusivities in the clustering region were 102 lower than those of free vacancies in the initial stage of KLMC simulations. They were expressed according to three temperature regimes: 6.5 × 10? 4 exp(–0.35/k B T) cm2/s at temperatures above 1100 K, 5.2 × 105 exp(–2.32/k B T) cm2/s at temperatures of 900–1100 K and 6.0 × 0–7 exp(–0.19/k B T) cm2/s at temperatures below 900 K. The effective mean migration energy, 1.1 eV, closely coincided with that of the 1.0–1.2 eV in experiments and was very different from the migration energy of the free vacancy.  相似文献

The presented study aimed at investigating the residual feed intake (RFI) of Sahiwal calves, nutrient utilisation as affected by RFI and its relationship with methane (CH4) emissions and some blood metabolites. Eighteen male Sahiwal calves (10–18 months of age; mean body weight 133 kg) were fed ad libitum with a total mixed ration. After calculating RFI for individual calves (?0.40 to +0.34 kg DM/d), they were divided into three groups with low, medium and high RFI, respectively. Dry matter intake (DMI) was higher (p < 0.05) in Group High RFI, whereas digestibility of all nutrients except crude protein and ether extract was significantly higher in Group Low RFI. Nitrogen balance was also significantly higher in Group Low RFI (20.2 g/d) than in Group High RFI (17.0 g/d). Average daily gain and feed conversion ratio were similar among the groups. With exception of glucose, concentrations of all measured blood metabolites were higher in Group High RFI (p < 0.05). Compared with Group High RFI, the CH4 emission of Group Low RFI was significantly lower (on the basis g/d and g/kg DMI by 11% and 19%, respectively). Furthermore, the CH4 emission [g/d] was significantly correlated with RFI (r = 0.77). Because higher feed efficiency and less CH4 production were observed in Group Low RFI, it was concluded that RFI can be used as a measure of feed efficiency, which has a potential to select Sahiwal calves for lowered CH4 emissions.  相似文献

The nutritional essentialities of transition element vanadium (V) as micro-nutrient in farm animals have not yet been established, though in rat model, vanadium as vanadate has been reported to exert insulin-mimetic effect and shown to be needed for proper development of bones. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of V supplementation on growth performance, plasma hormones and bone health status in calves. Twenty-four crossbred calves (body weight 72.83 ± 2.5 kg; age 3–9 months) were blocked in four groups and randomly assigned to four treatment groups (n = 6) on body weight and age basis. Experimental animals were kept on similar feeding regimen except that different groups were supplemented with either 0, 3, 6 or 9 ppm inorganic V/kg DM. Effect of supplementation during 150-day experimental period was observed on feed intake, body weight gain, feed efficiency, body measures, endocrine variables, plasma glucose and biomarkers of bone health status. Supplementation of V did not change average daily gain (ADG), dry matter intake (DMI), feed efficiency and body measures during the experimental period. During the post-V supplementation period plasma insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxin (T4) concentrations were increased and observed highest in 9 mg V/kg DM fed calves; however, levels of insulin, glucose, parathyroid hormone (PTH) and calcitonin hormones remained similar among calves fed on basal or V-supplemented diets. Bone alkaline phosphatase (Bone-ALP) concentration was increased (P < 0.05); however, plasma protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) level decreased (P < 0.05) in 6 and 9 mg V/kg DM supplemented groups. Plasma hydroxyproline (Hyp) and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) concentration were unchanged by V supplementation. Blood V concentration showed positive correlation with supplemental V levels. These results suggest that V may play a role in modulation of the action of certain endocrine variables and biomarkers of bone health status in growing crossbred calves.  相似文献

Abstract

Fifteen Murrah buffalo calves (age about 10 months, 163 – 176 kg BW) were divided into three groups. Group I (Control) was fed a complete feed mixture consisted of 50% wheat straw and 50% concentrate mixture (contained per kg: maize 330 g, groundnut cake 210 g, mustard cake 120 g, wheat bran 200 g, de-oiled rice bran 110 g, mineral mixture 20 g and common salt 10 g) along with 2 kg green oats per animal and day to meet the vitamin A requirements. Calves of Groups II and III were fed with the Control diet supplemented with Orpinomyces sp. C-14 and Piromyces sp. WNG-12 cultures, respectively. The digestibility of DM was significantly highest with Piromyces sp. WNG-12 in Group III (62.2%) followed by Orpinomyces sp. C-14 in Group II (60.3%), and Control (53.5%). A similar pattern of increase in digestibility of crude protein and cell-wall contents was observed in treatment groups. The digestible energy in terms of percent total digestible nutrients was also significantly enhanced in Groups II (56.6%) and III (59.9%) when compared to Control (49.2%). The rumen fermentation parameters such as pH and NH3-N were found to be lower, whereas total nitrogen, tricarboxylic acid precipitable-nitrogen, total volatile fatty acids and zoospore counts per millilitre of rumen liquor were significantly higher in fungal administered groups. After administration of fungal cultures, improvements of animal growth rate (i.e. body weight gain) and feed efficiency were also observed.  相似文献

Abstract

Effects of dietary L-carnitine and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) at different supplemental ages on performance and some immune response were investigated in ascites-susceptible broilers. A 3 × 2 × 2 factorial design was used consisting of L-carnitine supplementation (0, 75, and 100 mg/kg), CoQ10 supplementation (0 and 40 mg/kg) and different supplemental ages (from day 1 on and from day 10 on). A total of 480 one-day-old Arbor Acre male broiler chicks were randomly allocated to 12 groups, every group had five replicates, each with eight birds. The birds were fed a corn-soybean based diet for six weeks. From day 10 – 21, all the birds were exposed to a low ambient temperature (12 – 15°C) to increase the susceptibility to ascites. No significant effects were observed on growth performance by L-carnitine, CoQ10 supplementation, and different supplemental ages. Packed cell volume was significantly decreased by L-carnitine supplementation alone, and ascites heart index and ascites mortality were decreased by L-carnitine, CoQ10 supplementation alone, and L-carnitine + CoQ10 supplementation together (p < 0.05). Heart index of broilers was significantly improved by L-carnitine, CoQ10 supplementation alone during 0 – 3 week. Serum IgG content was improved by L-carnitine supplementation alone (p < 0.05), but lysozyme activity was increased by L-carnitine + CoQ10 supplementation together (p < 0.05). A significant L-carnitine by supplemental age interaction was observed in lysozyme activity. L-carnitine supplementation alone had no effects on the peripheral blood lymphocyte (PBL) proliferation in response to concanavalin A (ConA) and lipopolysaccharide, but supplemental CoQ10 alone and L-carnitine + CoQ10 together decreased the PBL proliferation in response to ConA (p < 0.05). The present study suggested that L-carnitine + CoQ10 supplementation together had positive effects on some immune response of ascites-susceptible broilers, which might benefit for the reduction of broilers' susceptibility to ascites.  相似文献
