We conducted microcosm experiments with two contrasting freshwater ciliates on functional traits (FTs) related to their growth rate (numerical response, NR) and ingestion rate (functional response, FR) over a range of ecologically relevant temperatures. Histiobalantium bodamicum and Vorticella natans are common planktonic ciliates but their abundance, swimming behavior, and temperature tolerance are different. In contrast to most sessile peritrich species, the motile V. natans is not strictly bacterivorous but also voraciously feeds upon small algae. We observed three main alterations in the shape of NR of both species with temperature, that is, change in the maximum growth rate, in the initial slope and in the threshold food level needed to sustain the population. Similarly, maximum ingestion rate, gross growth efficiency (GGE), and cell size varied with temperature and species. These findings caution against generalizing ciliate performance in relation to the ongoing global warming. Our results suggest that V. natans is the superior competitor to H. bodamicum in terms of temperature tolerance and bottom-up control. However, the abundance of V. natans is usually low compared to H. bodamicum and other common freshwater ciliates, suggesting that V. natans is more strongly top-down controlled via predation than H. bodamicum. The taxonomic position of V. natans has been debated. Therefore, to confirm species and genus affiliation of our study objects, we sequenced their small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rDNA) gene.  相似文献

为了探求合适的水体砷污染修复植物及砷在食物链中传递、累积的特点,以常见的沉水植物-苦草为研究对象,对受砷污染的水体进行修复,结果表明:苦草对水环境中砷的富集能在较短的时间内(3 d)达到一个较大值,到第14天,不同砷水平(2 mg/L)处理下的苦草对砷富集系数均超过200;苦草中砷浓度随处理时间及外源砷浓度的增加而增加,且与外源砷浓度之间存在极显著地正相关;苦草在不同浓度砷处理下都生长良好,对砷胁迫表现出较强的耐受性。因此,苦草对于水体的砷污染有着很好的去除效果,同时也能很好地反映出一个地区的砷污染水平。  相似文献

为研究两种根系特征的沉水植物在生长过程中对间隙水中磷浓度的影响,选取根系较多的沉水植物苦草和根系相对较少的沉水植物黑藻作为实验材料,监测底泥中间隙水各形态磷含量及环境因子的变化,探讨不同根系特征沉水植物对间隙水中磷的影响。结果表明:黑藻和苦草实验组沉积物间隙水中各形态磷的浓度均呈不同程度的降低,黑藻和苦草对于稳定水质,减少底泥中磷向水中转移具有明显的效果;沉水植物不同,底泥间隙水中溶解性总磷(DTP)和溶解性活性磷(SRP)存在明显差异。实验结束时黑藻组和苦草组间隙水中DTP的浓度分别为0.24,0.01 mg/L,SRP的浓度分别为0.22 mg/L,0.004 mg/L。间隙水中磷的形态主要以DTP和SRP为主,溶解性有机磷(DOP)的含量相对较低。沉水植物对间隙水中磷的吸收是降低间隙水中磷含量的重要原因,苦草的吸收能力大于黑藻。沉水植物根系通过降低底泥p H值,提高氧化还原电位(Eh)的方式抑制了底泥中磷的释放。  相似文献

Peniculistoma mytili and Mytilophilus pacificae are placed in the pleuronematid scuticociliate family Peniculistomatidae based on morphology and ecological preference for the mantle cavity of mytiloid bivalves. We tested this placement with sequences of the small subunit rRNA (SSUrRNA) and cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) genes. These species are very closely related sister taxa with no distinct genetic difference in the SSUrRNA sequence but about 21% genetic difference for cox1, supporting their placement together but separation as distinct taxa. Using infection frequencies, M. pacificae, like its sister species P. mytili, does not interact with Ancistrum spp., co‐inhabitants of the mantle cavity. On the basis of these ecological similarities, the fossil record of host mussels, and features of morphology and stomatogenesis of these two ciliates, we argue that M. pacificae derived from a Peniculistoma‐like ancestor after divergence of the two host mussels. Our phylogenetic analyses of pleuronematid ciliates includes the SSUrRNA gene sequence of Sulcigera comosa, a Histiobalantium‐like ciliate from Lake Baikal. We conclude: (i) that the pleuronematids are a monophyletic group; (ii) that the genus Pleuronema is paraphyletic; and (iii) that S. comosa is a Histiobalantium species. We transfer S. comosa to Histiobalantium and propose a new combination Histiobalantium comosa n. comb.  相似文献

Phytosociological and habitat studies of the phytocoenoses of Luronium natans have been conducted. The present results were compared with data on L. dortmanna and I. lacustris. It is demonstrated that the community of L. natans differs from the other two communities with respect to habitat conditions despite the fact that they have been reported to occur jointly and alongside in Lobelia lakes. It appears that significant differences between the communities are found not only regarding their waters, but also their substrates. L. natans dominated phytocoenoses are confined to oligotrophic, extremely soft waters, markedly poor in Ca2+, but richer in Na+ and SO4 2- than those of Lobelia and Isoëtes. Luronium natans develops best on acidic, highly hydrated substrates rich in organic matter, NO3 and total N. The results obtained indicate that L. natans and the phytocoenoses formed by it are characterized by their narrow ecological amplitude in Poland as opposed to those occurring in western Europe, which tolerate a relatively wide range of habitats. The present findings confirm the data from numerous works, which point to the weak competitive ability of the species compared with species typical of eutrophic waters.  相似文献

Photosynthetic properties of two symbiotic demosponges were compared using Clark‐type oxygen microsensors. The putatively distinct sponge species, Cliona viridis (Schmidt, 1862) and Cliona nigricans (Schmidt, 1862) were discriminated by their mean megasclere lengths of 296 and 387 μm, respectively. Photosynthetic behavior was used to generate additional taxonomic information. Sponge–dinoflagellate symbioses were well adapted to low light due to the hosts' endolithic lifestyle. Both sponges reached light compensation and saturation at similar light levels with means close to 10 and 30 μmol photons·m?2·s?1, respectively. The gross photosynthetic activity was closely related to symbiont cell density in the sponge surface tissue. Mean symbiont densities, chl a content, and gross photosynthesis were about six times higher in C. viridis than in C. nigricans, with respective values of 3000 and 440 symbiont·mm?2, 1.3 and 0.2 μg chl a·g?1, and 5.4 and 1.0 μmol O2·cm?3·s?1 gross photosynthesis. Net photosynthesis and respiration could not be calculated accurately from the oxygen gradients, because significant gas exchange occurs through the pumping activity. Thus, assumptions of diffusional oxygen exchange via the surface do not hold for sponges. Combined data of this study indicate that the metabolic activity of C. viridis depends on photosynthetic activity of its symbionts, whereas C. nigricans appears to have a higher pumping intensity and is more actively filter feeding. The difference in photosynthetic activities is not caused by different light adaptations but provides new evidence against the conspecifity of C. viridis and C. nigricans.  相似文献

为了解种间关系对沉水植物群落结构的影响,在不同光照(20%自然光和50%自然光)和不同物种组合下,研究了长江中下游常见优势沉水植物苦草(Vallisneria natans)与黑藻(Hydrilla verticillata)和穗状狐尾藻(Myriophyllum spicatum)的相互作用。结果表明,在低光下,苦草与穗状狐尾藻混种时,苦草生物量、株高和叶数均没有明显变化,当穗状狐尾藻的比例较高时,苦草根长生长受到抑制,根叶比呈下降趋势;在高光下,穗状狐尾藻比例的增加会促进苦草单株生物量和叶生物量的增加,而对苦草株高、根长和叶数无显著影响;与黑藻混种相比,苦草与穗状狐尾藻混种时,苦草的株高、根长和叶数均无显著差异,而苦草的单株生物量和叶生物量均呈降低趋势。因此,物种组合和混种比例均会影响苦草与其他物种的相互作用关系,进而影响沉水植被的群落动态。  相似文献

Summary Thirty accessions of domesticated (Lens culinaris ssp. culinaris) and wild (L. culinaris ssp. orientalis, L. culinaris ssp. odemensis, L. nigricans ssp. ervoides and L. nigricans ssp. nigricans) lentil were evaluated for restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) using ten relative low-copy-number probes selected from partial genomic and cDNA libraries of lentil. Nei's average gene diversity was used as a measure of genetic variability for restriction fragment lengths within subspecies and a dendrogram was constructed from genetic distance estimates between subspecies. The wild lentils L. culinaris ssp. orientalis and L. culinaris ssp. odemensis showed the greatest variability for restriction fragment lengths and were closely positioned to domesticated lentil in the dendrogram. Little variability for restriction fragment lengths was observed within accessions of L. nigricans ssp. ervoides and L. nigricans ssp. nigricans. This observation is consistent with a previously published proposal that nigricans may have been independently domesticated. Estimates of genetic variability based on RFLPs tended to be greater than estimates from isozymes.  相似文献

Morphological, behavioural and biochemical characters of 9 cosmopolitan, benthic species of the nemertean genus Lineus are used both to clarify their taxonomy and to discuss their phylogenetic relationships. Data analysis shows that all fissiparous species of Lineus collected in the world seas up to date can be placed in a single species, L. sanguineus, with three recognisable subspecies, L. s. sanguineus, L. s. nigricans and L. s. pseudolacteus. These taxa were originally described as separate species mainly according to their geographic origin under the names L. sanguineus (shores of European seas), L. socialis (Atlantic North American shores), L. vegetus (Pacific North American shores), L. pseudolacteus (shores of the English Channel) and L. nigricans (Mediterranean coasts of Italy and France). Examination of the character value matrix suggests a phylogenetic tree developing from two ancestral branches. The first branch includes the two related species L. ruber and L. viridis, the second branch the three species L. longissimus, L. lacteus and L. sanguineus. This approach to the taxonomic and phylogenetic relationships of Lineus nemertean species is in agreement with the intra- and interspecies histocompatibility data in nemerteans: (i) grafts transplanted from donors to recipients of the same species succeed and grafts transplanted from donors to recipients of different species fail; (ii) grafts are rejected more rapidly when the donor and recipient species diverged earlier in evolution and, a contrario, grafts are accepted better when the donor and recipient species have been more recently isolated.  相似文献

We report the fruiting-body formation and cultivation properties of Asterophora lycoperdoides, a fungicolous fungus. Asterophora lycoperdoides formed fruiting bodies on potato dextrose agar medium in approximately 1 week, although this fungus shows high host specificity to Russula nigricans in nature. Optimal temperature of mycelial growth and fruiting-body formation was 25°C. Mannitol or soluble starch was preferably used as a carbon source, and amino nitrogen was preferably used as the nitrogen source. For a better understanding of the relationship between A. lycoperdoides and R. nigricans, we cultivated A. lycoperdoides on media supplemented with freeze-dried fruiting bodies of various fungi. The germination rate was approximately 2.5 times higher on the medium containing freeze-dried R. nigricans than that on the PDA medium. The mycelia extended most rapidly in the presence of R. nigricans. Furthermore, the stipe length of its fruiting body was the longest on the medium containing R. nigricans. These results indicated that A. lycoperdoides can grow faster by utilizing certain substances that are abundantly contained in R. nigricans, such as mannitol, or by utilizing R. nigricans itself. It is considered that the constituents of R. nigricans might contribute to the host specificity of A. lycoperdoides.  相似文献

该研究以入侵植物黄顶菊[Flaveria bidentis(L.)Kunt]和本土伴生植物狗尾草为材料,通过筛选出黄顶菊单一优势群落AM真菌,于温室盆栽条件下,采用2物种单播、混播以及接种AM真菌和不接种共6个处理,分析AM真菌对黄顶菊和狗尾草的根系侵染率、相对竞争强度、植株氮磷钾光合利用率、以及丙二醛含量和保护酶活性的影响,探讨AM真菌对黄顶菊与狗尾草竞争生长的机理。结果显示:(1)黄顶菊根际土壤AM真菌共包括4属10种,其中优势种为Glomus constrictum、Glomus perpusillum、Glomus reticulatum;盆栽接种AM真菌后,黄顶菊的根系侵染率显著高于本土伴生植物狗尾草,但接种AM真菌后黄顶菊相对竞争强度显著降低了29.57%,却对狗尾草相对竞争强度无显著影响。(2)接种AM真菌使黄顶菊植株光合氮、磷、钾利用率显著升高,但对伴生植物狗尾草的光合氮、磷、钾利用率均无显著影响。(3)接种AM真菌对黄顶菊植株POD和CAT活性以及MDA含量无显著影响,但显著增加了SOD和APX活性,而伴对生植物狗尾草的POD、CAT和APX活性均显著降低,MDA含量显著提高。研究表明,AM真菌对黄顶菊和狗尾草具有不同的选择性,AM真菌的定植促进了黄顶菊的竞争生长,增加了植株N、P含量、光合养分利用率以及抗氧化酶活性;但显著降低了本土伴生植物狗尾草的N、P吸收以及抗氧化酶活性。因此,AM真菌在竞争生长中对黄顶菊产生了偏利反馈,有助于黄顶菊的入侵。  相似文献

Over the past 5 years, massive accumulations of holopelagic species of the brown macroalga Sargassum in coastal areas of the Caribbean have created “golden tides” that threaten local biodiversity and trigger economic losses associated with beach deterioration and impact on fisheries and tourism. In 2015, the first report identifying the cause of these extreme events implicated a rare form of the holopelagic species Sargassum natans (form VIII). However, since the first mention of S. natans VIII in the 1930s, based solely on morphological characters, no molecular data have confirmed this identification. We generated full‐length mitogenomes and partial chloroplast genomes of all representative holopelagic Sargassum species, S. fluitans III and S. natans I alongside the putatively rare S. natans VIII, to demonstrate small but consistent differences between S. natans I and VIII (7 bp differences out of the 34,727). Our comparative analyses also revealed that both S. natans I and S. natans VIII share a very close phylogenetic relationship with S. fluitans III (94‐ and 96‐bp differences of 34,727). We designed novel primers that amplified regions of the cox2 and cox3 marker genes with consistent polymorphic sites that enabled differentiation between the two S. natans forms (I and VIII) from each other and both from S. fluitans III in over 150 Sargassum samples including those from the 2014 golden tide event. Despite remarkable gene synteny and sequence conservation, the three Sargassum forms differ in morphology, ecology, and distribution patterns, warranting more extensive interrogation of holopelagic Sargassum genomes as a whole.  相似文献

In 1983 the first specimens of the North American spionid polychaeteMarenzelleria viridis were found along the European mainland shore in the Ems estuary. Since then, this polychaete has spread over several estuaries around the North Sea and the Baltic. In the inner part of the Ems estuary juveniles were predominantly present in muddy sediments high in the intertidal zone; in more sandy sediments at higher salinities juveniles and adults co-occured. Detailed information was obtained at a muddy and at a sandy station. Gametes were present in the coelomic fluid from November through March. In May new recruits were found in the sediment samples, reaching densities of over 105 M−2 at the muddy station, andc. 2000 m−2 at the sandy station. During summer, densities decreased at the muddy station, coinciding with a density increase at the sandy station, suggesting migration of juveniles from a nursery to the adult habitat. Cage experiments showed that the decrease of juveniles at the muddy station could be attributed to migration and not to mortality due to predation. At the sandy habitat palps and anterior parts ofM. viridis made up 4–11% of the stomach content of juvenile plaice (Pleuronectes platessa). In juvenile flounder (Platichthys flesus) only in Aprilc. 10% of the stomach content consisted ofM. viridis. During 1983–1990 increasing densities ofM. viridis at the sandy habitat coincided with a reduced abundance ofNereis diversicolor, however, this inverse relationship was not found to be statistically significant. Due to eutrophication submerged macrophytes have disappeared from many Chinese lakes. This is unfortunate as submerged macrophytes are important to improve water quality, and its re-establishment is therefore desirable. For this purpose a potential method to use is re-seeding, this being particularly attractive due to the high seed productivity of V. natans. We conducted laboratory studies to investigate the effects of five environmental variables (temperature, substratum, oxygen, light availability, and burial depth) on the seed germination of V. natans. Our results showed that a wide temperature range (25–35 °C) was favorable for germination; that seeds germinated well under both gravel and silt; that anaerobic condition proved to accelerate seed germination although the final germination percentage did not rise; and that light and burial acted as limiting factors. These results suggest that V. natans is a potential candidate for successful restoration of vegetation in lakes recovering from eutrophication.  相似文献

Hybridization is recognized as an important source of genetic variation. In some reef fishes, including the Acanthuridae, hybridization has been detected due to intermediate colouration. This study used a molecular genetic approach to investigate hybridization in two Acanthurid species: Acanthurus leucosternon and Acanthurus nigricans, which have Indian and Pacific Ocean distributions respectively and are sympatric in the eastern Indian Ocean. In this area a putatitve hybrid, Acanthurus cf. leucosternon has been recognized based on intermediate colouration and restriction to the sympatric region of otherwise allopatric putative parental species. This study aimed to test this hypothesis using genetic tools. The three species were sampled from Cocos (Keeling) and Christmas Islands, the biogeographic boundary where many Indian and Pacific Ocean biota meet. Representatives from allopatric populations of both parental species and outgroups were also sampled. Mitochondrial COI and intron 1 of the nuclear ribosomal protein S7 were sequenced from 13 and 30 specimens respectively. Although sample sizes in this study are relatively small and more genetic data, including an extended phylogeographic sampling, is required to further evaluate these findings, the COI results support hybrid origins of Acanthurus cf. leucosternon, but S7 data are inconclusive due to the possibility of incomplete lineage sorting. The fourfold more abundant Acanthurus nigricans is most often the maternal parent. Inter-fertile hybrids apparently backcross with rare Acanthurus leucosternon males, transferring Acanthurus nigricans mitochondria to this species. These results suggest that Acanthurus leucosternon may eventually be lost from these islands, due to their relative rarity and introgressive hybridization.  相似文献

Euglena viridis (subgenus Euglena) serves as the type species for the genus Euglena. In this study, molecular phylogenetic analyses using a small subunit (SSU) and a combined SSU–partial large subunit rDNA data set for members of the genus Euglena showed that strains identified as E. viridis on the basis of morphology are distributed between two separate nonsister clades. Although all the E. viridis strains examined were morphologically indistinguishable and possessed spherical mucocysts and stellate chloroplasts with one paramylon center, there was a high degree of sequence divergence between the E. viridis strains in different clades, making this a cryptic species. Like E. viridis, all taxa from the subgenus Euglena are characterized by having one or more stellate chloroplasts with paramylon grains clustered around the center of the chloroplast. These additional taxa were divided into four clades in all the molecular analyses. Strains of Euglena stellata formed two nonsister clades whose members had a single aggregate chloroplast with paramylon center and spindle‐shaped mucocysts. A geniculata clade included species with one or two stellate chloroplasts with paramylon centers and spherical mucocysts, and the cantabrica clade had members with one stellate chloroplast with paramylon center and spherical mucocysts often arranged in spiral rows. Interspersed among these were three additional clades bearing taxa from the subgenus Calliglena that contains members with discoid plastids and pyrenoids that may or may not be capped with paramylon. These taxa formed a laciniata clade, mutabilis clade, and gracilis clade. This study demonstrates that E. viridis and E. stellata are cryptic species that can only be distinguished at the molecular level. Because E. viridis is the designated type species for the genus Euglena, we designated an epitype for E. viridis.  相似文献

The green mussel Perna viridis has been receiving a lot of attention from workers working in the research areas of intertidal ecology, aquaculture, pollution monitoring, biofouling, zoogeography and invasion biology. P. viridis is a remarkable species in terms of its ability to reach very high biomass levels, to withstand environmental fluctuations, to concentrate a variety of organic and inorganic environmental pollutants, to colonise artificial marine habitats and to invade new geographic territories. This review collates data available on salient aspects of the distribution, biology and ecology of P. viridis. It is argued that the remarkable success of P. viridis as an invasive species basically stems from its long larval duration, fast growth rate, high fecundity, early maturity, high productivity and ability to withstand fluctuating environmental conditions (temperature, salinity, water turbidity and pollutants). Relevant aspects of the data are compared with the data available for a similar species Perna perna, which too is an invasive species, but to a more limited extent.  相似文献

The Kreftenheye Formation is a fluviatile deposit occurring in the central part of the Netherlands. The present study deals with the plant remains found in suction-dredged bulk samples from its largely Eemian Zutphen Member, a clayey sediment formerly known as the clay–peat bed or the Salvinia bed. It reports the discovery of a large number of galls induced by the asexual generation of the currently southeast European oak gall wasp Andricus hungaricus. The associated plant remains include seeds, fruits, conifer cones, wood, spines, leaf fragments, buds, bud scales, stem fragments, bryophytes, sporangia, oospores, palynomorphs, galls, jet and amber. The palynomorph samples indicate the Late Eemian pollen zone E5b of the Carpinus phase as the origin of the galls, but the other macrofossils may have a wider stratigraphic range, including possibly also material from (a part) of the zones E3–E5a. Several elements, such as Celtis, Chamaecyparis, Juglans, Magnolia and Pterocarya, date almost certainly from earlier interglacials. The list of plant remains is dominated by fresh water plants, riparian elements and ancient woodland taxa, which reflects the ecological range of the IJssel valley and adjacent ice-pushed ridges very well. Thermophilous elements include Brasenia schreberi, Buxus sempervirens, Cornus mas, Najas minor, Salvinia natans, Trapa natans and possibly also Andricus hungaricus. Quercus cerris, the probable host of the sexual generation of A. hungaricus was not found.  相似文献

In the Upper Rhine (Petite Camargue, Saint Louis, France) study site, Ph. vitellinae are found mainly on Salix nigricans on which they are bivoltine. Some beetles are occasionally observed on S. purpurea, especially in Spring, but never on S. alba, S. caprea and S. cinerea. In other European localities, S. nigricans or S. hegetschweileri at higher elevations are frequently recorded as host-plants. However, some populations are also found on S. purpurea, P. tremula and P. trichocarpa x deltoïdes, usually when neither S. nigricans nor S. hegetschweileri are present.All the Salicaceae on which Ph. vitellinae was observed in the field have leaves rich in phenylglycosides and with glabrous lower surfaces, at least in Spring. Ph. vitellinae was never recorded on those Salix species with leaf undersurfaces densely covered with trichomes.At the time of emergence of the beetles from hibernation, S. nigricans leaves are more developed than those of S. purpurea and S. cinerea. Moreover, those S. nigricans trees with the longer shoots in Spring support the largest number of beetles at their emergence. The preference of Ph. vitellinae for S. nigricans might be reinforced by these plenological differences.In the Petite Camargue, the same S. nigricans trees support the largest populations of beetles from one generation to the next and from year to year. This suggests that S. nigricans does not respond to defoliation with induced resistance to the beetles.All shoots on the branch seem to be equally suitable and attractive for oviposition. The older leaves at the base of the shoot and the younger ones at the top are less favored by ovipositing females. Survival of the egg batches and the groups of freshly emerged larvae is lower on the distal shoots of the branch and on the younger leaves. This might be due to a higher degree of exposure to predators.  相似文献
