Uterine myometrial contractility remains a poorly characterized area of research in reproductive physiology. Rnd1, a novel member of the GTP-binding Rho protein family, inhibits Ca(2+)-sensitization by specifically interfering with a RhoA/Rho-activated kinases-dependent mechanism in smooth muscle. In addition to Rnd1, there are two other members, Rnd2 and Rnd3, in the Rnd family of Rho proteins. In the present comparative study of myometrial contractility in rats and humans, we found that all three Rnd mRNAs were expressed in nonpregnant rat myometrium and in nonpregnant human myometrial tissues. Although all three mRNA levels increased significantly after gestation in rat myometria, only Rnd1 expression was significantly greater after gestation in human samples. In the ovariectomized rat, administration of estrogen and/or progesterone increased the expression of all Rnd mRNAs. These results suggest that universal Rnd family up-regulation during pregnancy in rats may have an important role for negative-feedback control of uterine contraction during gestation by inhibiting RhoA-mediated increase in Ca(2+) sensitivity of contractile elements. Such increases in Rnd levels may be due to augmented levels of reproductive steroids in rats. Our data also point to gestational differences between rats and humans in Rnd isoform patterns.  相似文献

Prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) exerts diverse biological effects through four G-protein-coupled cell surface receptor subtypes, EP1-4. This study's objective was to characterize EP1-4 receptor mRNA expression within pregnant guinea pig myometrium during early implantation stage (gestation day [GD] 6) and late stage gestation (GD 50) and evaluate in vitro contractile activity of receptor subtype selective agonists. Using RT-PCR, qualitative gene expression patterns of EP2, EP3, and EP4 mRNA were detected in the myometrium and remained unchanged between the gestational ages. EP1 mRNA remained undetected in pregnant tissue. In vitro contractile activity was evaluated in GD 6 and GD 50 myometrium using vehicle and EP agonists PGE(2), 17-phenyl trinor PGE(2), sulprostone, misoprostol, and CP-533,536. All spasmogens in pregnant myometrium were EP1/EP3 selective agonists, though likely acting via EP3 receptors in this test model. CP-533,536--a highly selective EP2 receptor agonist--and the vehicle failed to induce myometrial contraction at both gestational ages.  相似文献

To investigate the relationship between the oxytocin (OT) receptor (OTR) quantity and the contractile features systematically, we measured the mRNA expression levels of OTR and L-type Ca(2+) channel alpha(1C)-subunit (alpha(1C)) and examined the regulatory mechanisms of OT-induced phasic or tonic contractions of the longitudinal smooth muscles in mouse uteri. The mRNA expression of OTR in 19.0 G (19.0 days of gestation) was greater than those in nonpregnant phases, and that of alpha(1C) in estrus and 19.0 G was higher than in diestrus. OT-induced contractions sparsely occurred in diestrus. The OT-induced all-or-none-type phasic contractions at low concentrations were abolished by verapamil in both estrus and 19.0 G. OT-induced tonic contractions had similar pD(2) values in both estrus and 19.0 G. However, the magnitude in 19.0 G was much greater than that in estrus. The large tonic contractions also occurred in PGF(2alpha) receptor (FP) knockout mice in 19.0 G despite a small amount of OTR. Verapamil and Y-27632 partially inhibited the tonic contractions in 19.0 G. Cyclopiazonic acid-induced tonic contractions were reciprocally decreased with the increase in the OT-induced ones in 19.0 G. These results indicate that the phasic contractions are dependent on alpha(1C). The tonic contractions in 19.0 G are dependent on both Ca(2+) influxes via L-type Ca(2+) channels and store-operated Ca(2+) channels, and the force is augmented by the Rho signal pathway, which increases the Ca(2+) sensitivity. Thus the uterine contractions are mainly controlled by the modification of contractile signal machinery rather than simply by the OTR quantity.  相似文献

While the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system is known to regulate uterine function during the estrous cycle, there are limited data on its role in myometrial growth and development during pregnancy. To address this issue, we defined the expression of the Igf hormones (1 and 2), their binding proteins (Igfbp 1-6), and Igf1r receptor genes in pregnant, laboring, and postpartum rat myometrium by real-time PCR. IGF family genes were differentially expressed throughout gestation. Igf1 and Igfbp1 mRNA levels were upregulated during proliferative phase (Days 6-12) of rat gestation. Igfbp3 gene expression also was elevated in proliferating smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and was highest at the time of transition between proliferative and synthetic phases (Days 12-15). Igfbp6 gene expression profile paralleled plasma progesterone (P4) concentrations, peaking during the synthetic phase (Days 17-19) and decreasing thereafter. Administration of P4 at late pregnancy (starting from Day 20) to maintain elevated plasma P4 concentrations blocked the onset of labor and prevented the fall in Igfbp6 mRNA levels. In contrast, the treatment of pregnant rats with the P4 receptor antagonist RU486 on Day 19 induced preterm labor and the premature decrease of Igfbp6 gene expression. Igfbp2 gene expression was transiently upregulated during the contractile phase of gestation (Days 21-23) solely in the gravid horn of unilaterally pregnant rats, but it was not affected in P4- or RU486-treated animals, supporting a role for mechanical stretch imposed by the growing fetuses. Igfbp5 gene was induced during postpartum involution. Our results suggest the importance of the IGF system in phenotypic and functional changes of myometrial SMCs throughout gestation in preparation for labor.  相似文献

Background

We tested the hypothesis that the stretch-activated, four-transmembrane domain, two pore potassium channels (K2P), TREK-1 and TRAAK are gestationally-regulated in human myometrium and contribute to uterine relaxation during pregnancy until labor.

Methodology

We determined the gene and protein expression of K2P channels in non-pregnant, pregnant term and preterm laboring myometrium. We employed both molecular biological and functional studies of K2P channels in myometrial samples taken from women undergoing cesarean delivery of a fetus.

Principal Findings

TREK-1, but not TREK-2, channels are expressed in human myometrium and significantly up-regulated during pregnancy. Down-regulation of TREK-1 message was seen by Q-PCR in laboring tissues consistent with a role for TREK-1 in maintaining uterine quiescence prior to labor. The TRAAK channel was unregulated in the same women. Blockade of stretch-activated channels with a channel non-specific tarantula toxin (GsMTx-4) or the more specific TREK-1 antagonist L-methionine ethyl ester altered contractile frequency in a dose-dependent manner in pregnant myometrium. Arachidonic acid treatment lowered contractile tension an effect blocked by fluphenazine. Functional studies are consistent with a role for TREK-1 in uterine quiescence.

Conclusions

We provide evidence supporting a role for TREK-1 in contributing to uterine quiescence during gestation and hypothesize that dysregulation of this mechanism may underlie certain cases of spontaneous pre-term birth.  相似文献

The development of the adult cardiac troponin complex in conjunction with changes in cardiac function and cardiomyocyte binucleation has not been systematically characterized during fetal life in a species where maturation of the cardiomyocytes occurs prenatally as it does in the human. The aim of this study was to correlate the expression of each of the major adult troponin isoforms (T, I, and C) during late gestation (term of 150 days) to changes in both Ca(2+) sensitivity and maximum Ca(2+)-activated force of the contractile apparatus and the maturation of cardiomyocytes. The percentage of mononucleated cardiomyocytes in the right ventricle decreased with gestational age to 46% by 137-142 days of gestation. The length of binucleated cardiomyocytes did not change with gestational age, but the length of binucleated cardiomyocytes relative to heart weight decreased with gestational age. There was no change in the expression of adult cardiac troponin T with increasing gestation. The contractile apparatus was significantly more sensitive to Ca(2+) at 90 days compared with either 132 or 139 days of gestation, consistent with an ~30% increase in the expression of adult cardiac troponin I between 90 and 110 days of gestation. Maximum Ca(2+)-activated force significantly increased from 90 days compared with 130 days consistent with an increase of ~40% in cardiac troponin C protein expression. These data show that increased adult cardiac troponin I and C protein expression across late gestation is consistent with reduced Ca(2+) sensitivity and increased maximum Ca(2+)-activated force. Furthermore, changes in cardiac troponin C, not I, protein expression track with the timing of cardiomyocyte binucleation.  相似文献

Exercise training enhances endothelium-dependent coronary vasodilatation, improving perfusion and contractile function of collateral-dependent myocardium. Paradoxically, studies from our laboratory have revealed increased Ca(2+)-dependent basal active tone in collateral-dependent arteries of exercise-trained pigs. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that exercise training enhances agonist-mediated contractile responses of collateral-dependent arteries by promoting Ca(2+) sensitization. Ameroid constrictors were surgically placed around the proximal left circumflex coronary (LCX) artery of female Yucatan miniature pigs. Eight weeks postoperatively, pigs were randomized into sedentary (pen confined) or exercise-training (treadmill run; 5 days/wk; 14 wk) groups. Arteries (~150 μm luminal diameter) were isolated from the collateral-dependent and nonoccluded (left anterior descending artery supplied) myocardial regions, and measures of contractile tension or simultaneous tension and intracellular free Ca(2+) concentration levels (fura-2) were completed. Exercise training enhanced contractile responses to endothelin-1 in collateral-dependent compared with nonoccluded arteries, an effect that was more pronounced in the presence of nitric oxide synthase inhibition (N(ω)-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester; 100 μM). Contractile responses to endothelin-1 were not altered by coronary occlusion alone. Exercise training produced increased tension at comparable levels of intracellular free Ca(2+) concentration in collateral-dependent compared with nonoccluded arteries, indicative of exercise training-enhanced Ca(2+) sensitization. Inhibition of PKC (calphostin C; 1 μM), but not Rho-kinase (Y-27632, 10 μM; or hydroxyfasudil, 30 μM), abolished the training-enhanced endothelin-1-mediated contractile response. Exercise training also increased sensitivity to the PKC activator phorbol 12,13-dibutyrate in collateral-dependent compared with nonoccluded arteries. Taken together, these data reveal that exercise training enhances endothelin-1-mediated contractile responses in collateral-dependent coronary arteries likely via increased PKC-mediated Ca(2+) sensitization.  相似文献

In myometrium from pregnant rats, 100 nM-TPA elevated resting tension and initially slightly enhanced the contraction induced by 138 mM-KCl. After 20 min this force development significantly declined. In saponin-treated skinned myometrial cells from pregnant rats, 100 nM-TPA enhanced the contraction induced by 0.3 microM-Ca2+, but reduced that induced by 1 microM-Ca2+. These findings suggest that the excitatory and inhibitory actions of TPA on the myometrium are probably due to its action on the contractile proteins. In myometrium from non-pregnant rats, TPA affected neither the resting tension, nor the amplitude of the evoked contractions, nor the Ca2+-induced contractions in skinned myometrium. While TPA only affected tension development in pregnant rats, both 1 mM-carbachol and 90 nM-oxytocin induced a tonic contraction in Ca-free solution independently of the hormonal status of the rats. The latter finding makes it unlikely that activation of protein kinase C is involved in the agonist-induced tonic force development in Ca-free solution.  相似文献

A polyclonal antibody was raised against amino acids 7-18 in the first extracellular loop of rat prostaglandin F (FP) receptor to monitor expression and localization in pregnant rat myometrium at Gestational Days 16, 18, 20, 21, 21.5, 22 (delivery), and 23 (1-day postpartum; n = 5 per group). The antibody recognized a protein of approximately 43 kDa on Western blot analysis in both membrane (soluble and nonsoluble) and cytosolic fractions of myometrium on each day of gestation. Expression of FP protein increased significantly (P < 0.05) during late gestation in both soluble membrane and cytosolic fractions, being significantly greater at Day 21.5 than at Day 20 of gestation in the soluble membrane fraction and in the cytosolic fraction of tissues collected during labor compared with those obtained before labor. The total concentration of FP receptor in the membrane (soluble plus nonsoluble) remained high throughout late gestation and fell significantly (P < 0.05) in the postpartum period. The FP receptor in the soluble membrane fraction (compared to the total membrane FP receptor) was significantly (P < 0.05) higher in late gestation than earlier, whereas the ratio of FP protein in cytosolic to that in the total membrane was significantly (P < 0.05) higher on Day 23 than earlier in gestation, suggesting a dynamic movement of FP with advancing gestational age. Immunoreactive FP receptor localized to circular and longitudinal smooth muscle at all gestational ages, but changes in intracellular localization were observed in late gestation with a staining pattern similar to alpha-actin, suggesting an association with myofibrils. Our study suggests an increase in FP-receptor protein in myometrium with advancing gestation and a marked elevation at term. This supports a role for uterine FP receptors in mediation of uterine contractility at term.  相似文献

Little is known about the adaptation of uterine artery smooth muscle contractile mechanisms to pregnancy. The present study tested the hypothesis that pregnancy differentially regulates thick- and thin-filament regulatory pathways in uterine arteries. Isometric tension, intracellular free Ca(2+) concentration, and phosphorylation of 20-kDa myosin light chain (MLC(20)) were measured simultaneously in uterine arteries isolated from nonpregnant and near-term (140 days gestation) pregnant sheep. Phenylephrine-mediated intracellular free Ca(2+) concentration, MLC(20) phosphorylation, and contraction tension were significantly increased in uterine arteries of pregnant compared with nonpregnant animals. In contrast, phenylephrine-mediated Ca(2+) sensitivity of MLC(20) phosphorylation was decreased in the uterine arteries of pregnant sheep. Simultaneous measurement of phenylephrine-stimulated tension and MLC(20) phosphorylation in the same tissue indicated a decrease in MLC(20) phosphorylation-independent contractions in the uterine arteries of pregnant sheep. In addition, activation of PKC produced significantly lower sustained contractions in uterine arteries of pregnant compared with nonpregnant animals in the absence of changes in MLC(20) phosphorylation levels in either vessels. In uterine arteries of nonpregnant sheep, the mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase inhibitor PD-098059 significantly increased phenylephrine-mediated, MLC(20) phosphorylation-independent contractions. The results suggest that in uterine arteries, pregnancy upregulates alpha(1)-adrenoceptor-mediated Ca(2+) mobilization and MLC(20) phosphorylation. In contrast, pregnancy downregulates the Ca(2+) sensitivity of myofilaments, which is mediated by both thick- and thin-filament pathways.  相似文献

RHO GTPases are key regulators of the actin cytoskeleton and stress fiber formation. In the human uterus, activated RHOA forms a complex with RHO-associated protein kinase (ROCK) which inhibits myosin light chain phosphatase (PPP1R12A), causing a calcium-independent increase in myosin light chain phosphorylation and tension (Ca2+ sensitization). Recently discovered small GTP binding RND proteins can inhibit RHOA and ROCK interaction to reduce calcium sensitization. Very little is known about the expression of RND proteins in the human uterus. We tested the hypothesis that the uterine quiescence observed during gestation is mediated by an increase in RND protein expression inhibiting RHOA-ROCK-mediated PPP1R12A phosphorylation. Immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting were used to determine RHOA and RND protein expression and localization in nonpregnant, pregnant nonlaboring, and laboring patients at term and patients in spontaneous preterm labor. Changes in protein expression estimated by densitometry between different patient groups were measured. A significant increase of RND2 and RND3 protein expression was observed in pregnant relative to nonpregnant myometrium associated with a loss of PPP1R12A phosphorylation. RND transfected myometrial cells demonstrated a dramatic loss of stress fiber formation and a "rounding" phenotype. RND upregulation in pregnancy may inhibit RHOA-ROCK-mediated increase in calcium sensitization to facilitate the uterine quiescence observed during gestation.  相似文献

A rise in intracellular calcium is the primary trigger for contractile activity in pregnant human myometrium. It is hypothesized that key proteins involved in myometrial calcium homeostasis are gestationally regulated and play an important role in the preparation for labor. The aims of the study were to investigate the role of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca ATPases (SERCAs) in regulating spontaneous contractile activity in myometrium, and to determine the expression of SERCA isoforms 2a and 2b, and the plasma membrane Ca ATPase (PMCA), at term and during labor. Western blot analysis demonstrated that the expression of SERCA 2a and 2b significantly increased in myometrium of women in labor compared with those not in labor. The augmentation of contractile activity in laboring myometrium in the presence of a SERCA 2 inhibitor, cyclopiazonic acid (CPA), demonstrated the functional significance of this observation. It is interesting that the application of CPA in the presence of a calcium-activated potassium channel inhibitor to term nonlabor myometrium mimicked the response of myometrium from women in active labor to CPA alone. We conclude that the activity of SERCA isoforms becomes increasingly important in the maintenance of regular contractile activity during labor and may compensate for the functional loss of other calcium control pathways at term.  相似文献

Coronary arteries distal to chronic occlusion exhibit enhanced vasoconstriction and impaired relaxation compared with nonoccluded arteries. In this study, we tested the hypotheses that an increase in peak Ca(2+) channel current density and/or increased Ca(2+) sensitivity contributes to altered contractility in collateral-dependent coronary arteries. Ameroid occluders were surgically placed around the proximal left circumflex coronary artery (LCX) of female miniature swine. Segments of epicardial arteries ( approximately 1 mm luminal diameter) were isolated from the LCX and nonoccluded left anterior descending (LAD) arteries 24 wk after Ameroid placement. Contractile responses to depolarization (10-100 mM KCl) were significantly enhanced in LCX compared with size-matched LAD arterial rings [concentration of KCl causing 50% of the maximal contractile response (EC(50)); LAD = 41.7 +/- 2.3, LCX = 34.3 +/- 2.7 mM]. However, peak Ca(2+) channel current was not altered in isolated smooth muscle cells from LCX compared with LAD (-5.29 +/- 0.42 vs. -5.68 +/- 0.55 pA/pF, respectively). Furthermore, whereas half-maximal activation of Ca(2+) channel current occurred at nearly the same membrane potential in LAD and LCX, half-maximal inactivation was shifted to a more positive membrane potential in LCX cells. Simultaneous measures of contractile tension and intracellular free Ca(2+) (fura 2) levels in arterial rings revealed that significantly more tension was produced per unit change in fura 2 ratio in LCX compared with LAD in response to KCl but not during receptor-agonist stimulation with endothelin-1. Taken together, our data indicate that coronary arteries distal to chronic occlusion display increased Ca(2+) sensitivity in response to high KCl-induced depolarization, independent of changes in whole cell peak Ca(2+) channel current. Unaltered Ca(2+) sensitivity in endothelin-stimulated arteries suggests more than one mechanism regulating Ca(2+) sensitization in coronary smooth muscle.  相似文献

Studies of oxytocin-induced phosphorylation of myosin light chain (MLC), resulting in myometrial contraction, suggest that extracellular Ca(2+) influx is involved in its signal transduction. To explore the possibility that intracellular Ca(2+) mobilization by oxytocin may also contribute to MLC phosphorylation, we investigated the relative contributions of these Ca(2+) sources to oxytocin signal transduction in myometrium of pregnant rat. In pregnant rat myometrium, oxytocin-induced Ca(2+) influx occurs via an L-type voltage-dependent Ca(2+) channel. Treatment with verapamil, an antagonist specific for these channels, significantly diminished MLC phosphorylation observed in response to oxytocin administration without affecting the release of Ca(2+) from intracellular Ca(2+) stores. Furthermore, oxytocin-induced MLC phosphorylation was not observed when extracellular Ca(2+) was not present. Our results clearly indicate that extracellular Ca(2+) influx, rather than release from Ca(2+) storage sites, is essential for oxytocin-induced MLC phosphorylation.  相似文献

Persistent, postmating endometritis affects approximately 15% of mares and results in reduced fertility and sizable economic losses to the horse-breeding industry. Mares that are susceptible to postmating endometritis have delayed uterine clearance associated with reduced uterine contractility. Unfortunately, the mechanism for reduced uterine contractility remains an enigma. The present study examined the hypothesis that mares with delayed uterine clearance have an intrinsic contractile defect of the myometrium. Myometrial contractility was evaluated in vitro by measuring isometric tension generated by longitudinal and circular uterine muscle strips in response to KCl, oxytocin, and prostaglandin F(2alpha) (PGF(2alpha)) for young nulliparous mares, older reproductively normal mares, and older mares with delayed uterine clearance. In addition, intracellular Ca(2+) regulation was evaluated using laser cytometry to measure oxytocin-stimulated intracellular Ca(2+) transients of myometrial cells loaded with a Ca(2+)-sensitive fluorescent dye, fluo-4. For all contractile agonists, myometrium from mares with delayed uterine clearance failed to generate as much tension as myometrium from older normal mares. Oxytocin-stimulated intracellular Ca(2+) transients were similar for myometrial cells from mares with delayed uterine clearance and from older normal mares, suggesting that the contractile defect did not result from altered regulation of intracellular Ca(2+) concentration. Furthermore, no apparent age-dependent decline was observed in myometrial contractility; KCl-depolarized and oxytocin-stimulated longitudinal myometrium from young normal mares and older normal mares generated similar responses. However, circular myometrium from young normal mares failed to generate as much tension as myometrium from older normal mares when stimulated with oxytocin or PGF(2alpha), suggesting possible age-related alterations in receptor-second messenger signaling mechanisms downstream of intracellular Ca(2+) release. In summary, for mares with delayed uterine clearance, an intrinsic contractile defect of the myometrium may contribute to reduced uterine contractility following breeding.  相似文献

Leptin, insulin, corticosterone regulate food intake. Hyperphagia and hormonal rearrangement are typical for pregnancy and lactation. The aim of the study is to correlate food intake with blood levels of these hormones in pregnant and lactating mice. Food intake, body weight, blood glucose, insulin, leptin and corticosterone levels were measured in virgin C57B1/6J micc and on the day 7, 13,17 of pregnancy, and day 1, 7, 14, 30 postpartum. Insulin sensitivity was measured at the day 7, 17 of pregnancy. Food intake and body weight increased towards the second postpartum week and then decreased. Insulin sensitivity decreased towards the end of the pregnancy. Mothers differed from virgin females in hormones and glucose levels only during pregnancy. Leptin level was decreased at the day 7 of gestation, insulin level - during whole gestation. Glucose fell, and leptin and corticosterone increased from the day 7 to 17. Probably, these hormones affect food intake only in pregnant females and do not influence appetite during lactation.  相似文献

The present study tests the hypothesis that age-related changes in patterns of agonist-induced myofilament Ca(2+) sensitization involve corresponding differences in the relative contributions of thick- and thin-filament regulation to overall myofilament Ca(2+) sensitivity. Posterior communicating cerebral arteries from term fetal and nonpregnant adult sheep were used in measurements of cytosolic Ca(2+), myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation, and contractile tensions induced by varying concentrations of K(+) or serotonin [5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)]. The results were used to assess the relative contributions of the relationships between cytosolic Ca(2+) and MLC phosphorylation (thick-filament reactivity), along with the relationships between MLC phosphorylation and contractile tension (thin-filament reactivity), to overall myofilament Ca(2+) sensitivity. For K(+)-induced contractions, both fetal and adult arteries exhibited similar basal myofilament Ca(2+) sensitivity. Despite this similarity, thick-filament reactivity was greater in fetal arteries, whereas thin-filament reactivity was greater in adult arteries. In contrast, 5-HT-induced contractions exhibited increased myofilament Ca(2+) sensitivity compared with K(+)-induced contractions for both fetal and adult cerebral arteries, and the magnitude of this effect was greater in fetal compared with adult arteries. When interpreted together with our previous studies of 5-HT-induced myofilament Ca(2+) sensitization, we attributed the present effects to agonist enhancement of thick-filament reactivity in fetal arteries mediated by G protein receptor activation of a PKC-independent but RhoA-dependent pathway. In adult arteries, agonist stimulation enhanced thin-filament reactivity was also probably mediated through G protein-coupled activation of RhoA-dependent and PKC-independent mechanisms. Overall, the present data demonstrate that agonist-enhanced myofilament Ca(2+) sensitivity can be partitioned into separate thick- and thin-filament effects, the magnitudes of which are different between fetal and adult cerebral arteries.  相似文献

The course of malarial infection was compared in pregnant mice inoculated with Plasmodium berghei at different stages of gestation. When 12-14 wk old, pregnant BALB/c mice were inoculated with 1 x 10(6) of P. berghei NK65-infected red cells at gestation day 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16, the mice inoculated on gestation days 6-12 expired 6.5 days after inoculation compared to 9.5 days in non-pregnant mice. Parasitemia in these pregnant mice increased rapidly on day 4 after inoculation and anemia also developed earlier on day 5. However, the degree of parasitemia and anemia in the terminal stage of infection in these pregnant mice was milder than that of non-pregnant controls. Blood urea nitrogen increased at the terminal stage although the degree of increase in mice inoculated on gestation days 6-10 was comparatively small. Pregnant malarial mice died earlier with less physiological changes than non-pregnant controls. It was concluded that pregnancy makes the host susceptible to physiological changes caused by malaria.  相似文献
