The life-cycle ofEchinochasmus macrocaudatus n. sp., from mother-sporocyst to adult, was studied under natural and experimental conditions. The aquatic snailsPyrgophorus coronatus (Prosobranchia: Hydrobiidae) from cenotes (sinkholes) of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, served as the first intermediate host of this parasite, liberating cercariae possessing an extremely large tail (zygocercous cercaria). Metacercariae of the fluke were encysted on the gills of the characid fishAstyanax fasciatus (natural infection); the poeciliidsXiphophorus variatus andPoecilia velifera were suitable experimental hosts. Feeding experiments withE. macrocaudatus metacercariae resulted in finding adult trematodes, possessing 22 collar spines (with 2 angle spines on each side), in the intestine of chicks and ducks.E. macrocaudatus differs from the most closely related species,E. schwartzi Price, 1931, by its larger oral sucker (138–170×118–176 m) and by the position of the acetabulum which is situated at two-fifths of the body length.  相似文献

The life history of Echinochasmus bagulai, an echinostomatid trematode in birds, is reported and stages in the life cycle are described. Natural infections with cercariae, which are of the gymnocephalous type, were found in the thiarid snail Thiara tuberculata. Metacercarial cysts were found in the gills of Aplocheilus panchax, Oryzias melastigma, Gambusia affinis and Channa punctata. Adults were obtained in the small intestine of Ardeola grayi. In laboratory experiements development of cercariae into infective metacercariae took 10 days in the gills of A. panchax. Mature flukes were recovered in 10 days in the small intestine of experimentally infected 1-day-old leghorn chicks. The eggs collected from the faeces of these infected chicks were incubated at 39 degrees C. The free-swimming miracidia were found on the fifth day of incubation.  相似文献

Larval stages of an echinostome were found in Planorbis planorbis in a brackish water lake on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. The cercaria is a large-tailed form with 19 collar spines. The life-cycle was completed in the laboratory using aquarium-reared fishes (Lebistes reticulatus, Puntius tetrazona tetrazona, P. pentazona pentazona, P. nigrofasciatus, Carassius auratus auratus and Xiphophorus helleri) as second intermediate hosts and canaries as definitive hosts. The redia, cercaria, metacercaria and experimentally reared adults are described. The species is determined as Petasiger grandivesicularis Ishii, 1935, and its cercaria is compared in detail with those of related forms. A key to the known large-tailed echinostome cercariae from the Palaearctic Region is presented.  相似文献

The morphology of the different life-history stages and life-cycle of Euparyphium albuferensis are described and drawn. The freshwater snail Gyraulus chinensis (Gastropoda: Planorbidae) serves as the natural and experimental first intermediate host. This and other freshwater snails, such as Lymnaea truncatula, L. peregra, L. palustris and Physa acuta, serve as second intermediate hosts. Adult worms, possessing 45 collar spines, were obtained naturally from Rattus norvegicus and R. rattus, and experimentally from albino rats, mice and golden hamsters. Chickens, ducks and pigeons were not suitable experimental definitive hosts. E. albuferensis differs from the most closely related species, E. murinum Tubangui, 1931, in its larger body, suckers and oesophageal measurements, in the distribution of vitelline follicles and in the morphology of the collar spines.  相似文献

The morphology of the different stages and life-cycle of Echinostoma friedi n. sp. are described and figured. The freshwater snail Lymnaea peregra (Gastropoda: Lymnaeidae) serves as the natural and experimental first intermediate host and L. corvus and Gyraulus chinensis (Gastropoda: Planorbidae) as experimental first intermediate hosts. These, and Physella acuta (Gastropoda: Physidae), also serve as second intermediate hosts. Adult worms, possessing 37 collar spines, were obtained from naturally infected Rattus norvegicus and experimentally from albino rats, golden hamsters and chickens. Mice were not suitable experimental definitive hosts. E. friedi differs from the most closely related species in the `revolutum' group mainly in terms of several morphological and biological features of the life-cycle stages and in its cercarial chaetotaxy. The chaetotaxy patterns of the species of the `revolutum' group are analyzed and the results show that a taxonomic comparison of these species may be carried out on the basis of the number of sensilla in the clusters CIII V1, CIII V2 (or CIII V1 + CIII V2), CIV DL and UVb. These clusters appear adequate to establish taxonomic relationships between different species within the `revolutum' group.  相似文献

The life-cycle of Helicometra gibsoni n. sp., an opecoelid trematode of marine fishes, is elucidated and the life-history stages are described. Natural infections with the cercariae, which are typically opecoelid in many respects but characterised by having very long, extensile tails, were found in the intertidal snail Anachis terpsichore collected from the Lawson's Bay Coast, Bay of Bengal. Metacercariae were found in the thoracic muscles of the shooting shrimp Alphaeus malabaricus as prominent, reddish-brown, oval cysts. Laboratory experiments demonstrated that 14 days are required for the development of cercaria into the infective metacercarial stage in shrimps. Natural infections with the adult fluke were found in Scorpaenopsis cirrhosus. Therapon jarbua served as an experimental host. Fourteen-day-old metacercariae fed to T. jarbua developed into egg-producing adults in 40–43 days. Intra-specific variations noted in the flukes obtained from natural and experimental infections are presented. H. fasciata of Madhavi (1975) is regarded as a synonym of H. gibsoni.  相似文献

The karyotype of Echinostoma caproni Richard, 1964 is studied. There are eleven pairs of chromosomes (2n=22). Two pairs are submetacentric (Nos. 4 and 5). C-banding methods revealed a large block of heterochromatin in No. 3 and two blocks in No. 5. E. cinetorchis (see Terasaki et al., 1982) and E. barbosai (see Mutafova & Kanev, 1983) also have 22 chromosomes, but the metacentric or submetacentric chromosomes are Nos. 8 and 11 for the former and No. 10 for the latter. ac]19860425  相似文献
