The general equations are discussed describing two species in competition or in symbiosis or feeding one on the other.     

The struggle for life: II. Three competitors

Some of the properties of the equations describing three species living in competition in the same environment are analysed. In particular it is found that, under certain conditions, the size of the three populations can oscillate.     

The struggle for life: III. A predator-prey chain

Ann species predator-prey chain is analyzed to determine what oscillations occur in population sizes. It is found that only the populations of the first and second species in the chain must necessarily oscillate around the point of equilibrium if they do not come to equilibrium. The other species may or may not oscillate.

The remarkable ice storm that brought life to a standstill in most of Eastern Ontario and Quebec in January had a huge impact on medical services. Hospitals that lost power found themselves serving as shelters not only for patients but also for staff members and nearby residents.
