Ten known or potential components of the aggregation-attachment pheromone (AAP) of the ticksAmblyomma hebraeum andA. variegatum, as well as a mixture of these components and extracts of prefed males of the two species, were tested as attachment stimulants for nymphs. Unfed nymphs were confined in linen bags on the ears of rabbits that had been treated with the test compounds, mixture or extracts; the numbers attached were recorded after 24 h. InA. hebraeum, attachment was induced by four compounds (2-methyl propanoic acid, methyl salicylate,o-nitrophenol and salicylaldehyde), the mixture and extracts from both species. InA. variegatum, attachment was induced by three compounds (methyl salicylate,o-nitrophenol and salicylaldehyde), the mixture and extracts from both species. Methyl salicylate ando-nitrophenol are primary components of the AAP of bothA. hebraeum andA. variegatum. 2-methyl propanoic acid is a species-specific attachment stimulant forA. hebraeum. Salicylaldehyde, a phenolic compound, is not a naturally occurring AAP component. Nymphs of both species respond to fewer attachment stimulants than the adults and, as shown by their respective host ranges, are less dependent on the AAP in the regulation of attachment than the adults.  相似文献

Behavioral responses of maleSpodoptera litura to the female sex pheromone components, (Z, E)-9, 11-tetradecadienyl acetate (compound A) and (Z, E)-9, 12-tetradecadienyl acetate (compound B), and mixtures of compounds A and B were analyzed in the laboratory. Male orientation flight in a wind tunnel was induced by a lure dispenser onto which 1.1×10−3 ng of a mixture (A∶B=10∶1) was absorbed, while 1 ng of compound A was required to induced the same level of behavior. The blend ratio was important for trap catch and orientation flight of males and a 10∶1 mixture of compounds A and B was most effective. A mixture (10∶1) was more effective than compound A alone in induction of movement, walking, and flying in resting males in a glass tube. These results indicated that 2 sex pheromone components act as a set from the initial to final steps of male attraction to female.  相似文献

Citrus canker disease is one of the most devastating diseases that attacks citrus, especially limes in the Southern parts of Iran, and is caused by Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xcc). The efficacy of several formulations of copper compounds including Bordeaux mixture, copper oxychloride and copper sulphate in controlling Xcc in Key lime was estimated in vitro and in planta using artificial inoculation. Specific primers were used to detect copper-resistant genes copA, copB and copL in 30 isolates of Xcc. The copA and copL genes were present in all isolates, and copB was detected only in 6 strains. In this study, we observed a very good in vitro growth inhibition activity of copper compounds against Xcc pathotype A. S14 strain (pathotype A*) was the sole isolate that grew on media amended with 2/4 mM of Bordeaux mixture, copper oxychloride and copper sulphate. All other strains (pathotype A) failed to grow on media amended with this concentration. Bordeaux mixture exhibited high efficacy in controlling Xcc in both conditions. However, there were no significant differences in the efficacy of copper oxychloride and copper sulphate at 1.2 mM concentration in planta. A significantly minimum canker necrotic spot and highest disease control was achieved with Bordeaux mixture and copper oxychloride. There was a significant difference in disease severity of the type strain LMG9322 (pathotype A) and Xcc strain S14 (pathotype A*). Our experiments showed that Bordeaux mixture exhibited satisfactory efficacy in controlling the causal agent of citrus canker.  相似文献

InA. variegatum, attachment of males was induced by seven compounds (benzaldehyde, benzyl alcohol, 2,6-dichlorophenol, heptadecane, methyl salicylate, o-nitrophenol and salicyladeehyde) and attachment of females by two compounds (methyl salicylate and o-nitrophenol). A mixture of the nine compounds and extracts of prefed males ofA. herbraeum andA. variegatum induced attachment in males of both species and in femaleA. hebraeum; in these tests, attachment of femaleA. variegatum was only induced by extracts of conspecific males.  相似文献

The fate of benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, xylenes (BTEX) compounds through biodegradation was investigated using two different bacteria, Ralstonia picketti (BP-20) and Alcaligenes piechaudii (CZOR L-1B). These bacteria were isolated from extremely polluted soils contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons. PCR and Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) were used to identify the isolates. In this study, BTEX biodegradation, applied as a mixture or as individual compounds by the bacteria was evaluated. Both bacteria were shown to degrade each of the BTEX compounds individually and in mixture. However, Alcaligenes piechaudii was a better degrader of BTEXs both in the mixture and individually. Differences between BTEX biodegradation in the mixture and individually were observed, especially in the case of benzene. The degradation of all BTEXs in the mixture was lower than the degradation of individual compounds for both bacteria tested. In the all experiments, toluene and m + p- xylenes were better removed than the other BTEXs. No intermediates of biodegradation were detected. Biosurfactant production was observed by culture techniques. In addition, 3-hydroxy fatty acids, important in biosurfactant production, were observed by FAME analysis. The test results indicate that the bacteria could contribute to bioremediation of aromatic hydrocarbon pollution.  相似文献

A study was performed to determine the effectiveness of using biofiltration for the removal of a complex mixture of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) air-stripped from petroleum hydrocarbons. A biofilter was constructed which contained 264 cm3 of packing material (Celite? R-635). The unit was inoculated with a mixed culture containing a hydrocarbon-degrading Pseudomonas sp and an Alcaligenes sp. Several of the major compounds in the VOC mixture were monitored individually, along with the total VOCs, using gas chromatography. The average influent concentration of the VOC mixture was 320 ppmv and the average total VOC removal rate was over 56%, with the average removal rate of the monitored individual compounds ranging from 49–90%. After 30 days of operation the average overall removal rate was 69% and the removal of the major compounds averaged 92%. The toxicity and mutagenicity of the air stream was monitored using the Microtox and Ames assays, respectively. These data show marked decreases in toxicity and mutagenicity of the air stream as a result of the biofiltration treatment. The biofiltration system, therefore, was not only effective in removing VOCs from the air stream over an extended time-period, but was also effective in greatly reducing the toxicity and mutagenicity associated with the remaining VOCs. A mixture of purified polyphenol oxidases (PPO), or acetone powders prepared from fruits and vegetables, and polyphenolic compounds (PPs) totally eliminated a methylmercaptan odor. 2-Methyl-thiochlorogenic acid was isolated from the reaction mixture of methylmercaptan and chlorogenic acid with burdock acetone powder. Further, the formation of 5-methylthiochlorogenic acid and 2,5-bis(methylthio)-chlorogenic acid was suggested. These facts demonstrate that the o-quinone compounds formed from o-diphenols by PPO rapidly reacted with methylmercaptan. The oxidation reaction of PPs by using acetone powder containing PPO or peroxidase is considered to be more effective for removing bad smells from our mouths and from the environment.  相似文献

Nine known or potential components of the aggregation-attachment pheromone of the ticksAmblyomma hebraeum andA. variegatum were tested as long-range attractants. In field assays, laboratory-reared unfed male and female ticks were released 4 m downwind of treated filter-paper targets. Carbon dioxide was used to activate the ticks and the numbers attracted to the targets were recorded. Adults ofA. hebraeum were attracted to six compounds (benzaldehyde, 2,6-dichlorophenol, heptadecane, methyl salicylate, nonanoic acid and o-nitrophenol) and adults ofA. variegatum to four compounds (2,6-dichlorophenol, methyl salicylate, nonanoic acid and o-nitrophenol). The most important attractant forA. hebraeum was o-nitrophenol; methyl salicylate and o-nitrophenol were the most important attractants forA. variegatum. Nonanoic acid and o-nitrophenol attracted significantly more female than maleA. hebraeum. Both species were also attracted by a mixture of the nine compounds.  相似文献

The production of vitamin B6 (B6) compounds with a cell-suspension of Achromobacter cycloclastes A.M.S. 6201 under various conditions were examined. An obvious accumulation of B6 compounds in the incubation medium with a cell-suspension of the organism harvested at the middle to later part of exponential phase of growth was observed. γ-Aminobutyric acid or β-alanine was found to stimulate the B6 production markedly, when they were added to the incubation mixture together with glycerol. Some discussion on the implication of these compounds as precursors of B6 was presented.  相似文献

Capillary electrophoresis was used for the separation of a combinatorially synthesized N-(substituted)-glycine (NSG) peptoid mixture. This mixture consisted of 24 trimeric compounds sharing a common backbone structure but differing in the side chain attached at the N-terminal residue. Standards of the individual components were unavailable so that development of the separation was based on the mixture. A variety of buffer additives were investigated to enhance the CE resolution of this diverse mixture. Ion-pairing agents, cyclodextrins and organic modifiers were all evaluated as buffer additives. The best separations were achieved using a combination of buffer additives, each serving a different purpose in the separation. Heptane sulphonic acid (HSA) was used to reduce hydrophobic intramolecular interactions. Methyl-β-cyclodextrin was used to provide host–guest interactions in order to resolve the very hydrophobic components of the NSG-peptoid mixture. The optimized run buffer consisted of 250 mM sodium phosphate buffer, pH 2.0, with 25 mM HSA and 40 mg/ml BCD and resulted in the resolution of 21 peaks for the 24 peptoids in the combinatorial mixture.  相似文献

Blends of volatile compounds emitted by host plants are known to mediate the attraction of gravid female herbivores to oviposition sites, but the role of individual odor components is still little understood. We characterized the olfactory response of mated female Cydia (Grapholita) molesta (Busck) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) to synthetic mixtures of compounds emitted by peach shoot, a key host plant of this herbivore, and investigated the role of important constituents of bioactive mixtures in moth attraction. Relative ratios of constituents of the mixtures corresponded to the natural ratio of volatile compounds collected in the plant's headspace. A significant attractant effect was found for a comparatively complex 10‐compound mixture that included four green leaf volatiles [(Z)‐3‐hexen‐1‐ol, 1‐hexanol, (E)‐2‐hexenal, and (Z)‐3‐hexen‐1‐yl acetate], five aromatics (benzaldehyde, methyl salicylate, methyl benzoate, benzonitrile, and phenylacetonitrile), and a carboxylic acid (valeric acid). Using a subtraction approach, the number of compounds was progressively decreased, resulting in a bioactive 5‐compound mixture composed of two constituents, green leaf volatiles and aromatic compounds. Further evaluations revealed that benzaldehyde and benzonitrile must be present in association with three distinct green leaf volatiles to produce an attractant effect on the female moths. This 5‐compound mixture was as attractive as natural peach shoot volatiles, which are known to comprise over 20 compounds. Results are discussed in light of the documented synergistic effect between the three general green leaf volatiles and the two specific aromatic compounds.  相似文献

Hydrocarbon-degrading microorganisms (HDM) associated with the rhizosphere of Paspalum vaginatum and Zoysia tenuifolia grown in bioremediated soil were isolated under controlled laboratory conditions. The isolation process was conducted at 30°C and 45°C to isolate mesophilic and thermotolerant microorganisms, respectively, under aerobic conditions. The isolated HDMs were identified using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) analysis. Although differences in the genera of the isolated HDMs occurred between the two grasses, Arthrobacter spp and Bacillus spp were isolated from the rhizosphere of both plants. The efficiency of the isolated microorganisms in degrading a mixture of hydrocarbon compounds (HC) was also assessed. Among the bacterial isolates, Pseudomonas boreopolis was found to be the most effective HC degrader, while the only fungal isolate, Fusarium solani, demonstrated higher degradation rates than most of the bacterial isolates. A mixture of all the microbial isolates demonstrated a high degradation percent of HC. The isolated microorganisms thus appear to work synergistically to degrade efficiently all the tested organic compounds.  相似文献

To assess their potential as biopesticides, the effect on the growth of phytopathogen Fusarium oxysporum of six volatile organic compounds from endophytic fungi was studied in vivo and in vitro; compounds were used both as a mixture and individually. In vivo studies were performed inoculating the pathogen into cherry tomatoes, while the in vitro antifungal effect was studied using agar dilution and gas phase methods. Also, the morphology of the hyphae exposed to these compounds was analyzed. Moreover, the possible mechanism of action of these compounds was determined by studying the respiration and cell membrane permeability. Results show that the compounds have a significant concentration-dependent antifungal effect individually and act in a synergic manner. Additionally, changes in cell membrane permeability, damage to the hyphal morphology, and an inhibitory effect on the respiration were observed. The mixture of the six compounds may be used for postharvest control of F. oxysporum in tomatoes.

Electrophysiological and behavioural responses of females of two tabanid species, Tabanus bromius L. and Atylotus quadrifarius (Loew) (Diptera: Tabanidae), to ammonia, octenol (1‐octen‐3‐ol), phenols and aged horse urine were compared. Electroantennogram (EAG) responses in both species to octenol, 4‐methylphenol (4MP), 3‐propylphenol (3PP) and a phenol mixture (4MP and 3PP at a ratio of 16 : 1) increased in a dose‐dependent fashion. The most effective stimulus was 4MP and synergism between the two phenols may exist. Aged horse urine also elicited strong EAG responses in both species. Using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC‐MS) analysis, we identified 29 compounds in horse urine, which included, in particular, ketones, fatty alcohols and phenols, among which 4MP was the most abundant component (? 80%). Trapping experiments were carried out using Nzi traps baited with various odours. Octenol and the phenol mixture in combination with ammonia increased catches of tabanids by 1.8–2.8 times relative to ammonia alone. Aged horse urine increased catches of T. bromius and A. quadrifarius by 2.2 and 4.1 times, respectively. The high attractiveness of aged horse urine, especially for A. quadrifarius, is not likely to derive from 4MP alone, but from the mixture of various active compounds used in host location.  相似文献

The change in the composition of volatile components during aging and storage of dry-cured sausages containing a mixture of Lactobacillus plantarumand Staphylococcus carnosusas fermenting cultures was studied by high-performance capillary gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. A total of 52 compounds were identified. It was found that sausage storage is accompanied by a significant increase in the concentration of flavoring aldehydes. The terpene concentration monotonically increases with sausage aging and storage.  相似文献

A mixture of acids with known pK′ and in a known concentration was dissolved to simulate the ionic character of hemoglobin. The titration curves of the mixture were obtained in water and 3.6 M KCl at 20°C. These curves were subjected to analysis by a reiterative curve-fitting procedure to determine if one could evaluate both the group ionization constants and the numbers of groups. This approach was successful in that the calculated parameters were within the experimental error encountered in obtaining these constants on each of the model compounds. However, analysis for the electrostatic interaction parameter w indicated that there was a possible effect on the ionization of formic acid, pyridine, imidazole, and the α-amino group of glycylglycine in water and on imidazole and the α-amino group of glycylglycine in 3.6 M KCl.  相似文献

Mycobacterium sp. PYR‐1, which was previously shown to mineralize several individual polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), simultaneously degraded phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene and benzo[a]pyrene in a six‐component synthetic mixture. Chrysene was not degraded significantly. When provided with a complex carbon source, Mycobacterium sp. PYR‐1 degraded greater than 74% of the total PAH mixture during 6 d of incubation. Mycobacterium sp. PYR‐1 appeared to preferentially degrade phenanthrene. No significant difference in degradation rates was observed between fluoranthene and pyrene. Anthracene degradation was slightly delayed but, once initiated, proceeded at a constant rate. Benzo[a]pyrene was degraded slowly. Degradation of a crude mixture of benzene‐soluble PAHs from contaminated sediments resulted in a 47% reduction of the material in 6 d compared with that of autoclaved controls. Experiments using an environmental microcosm test system indicated that mineralization rates of individual 14C‐labeled compounds were significantly lower in the mixtures than in equivalent doses of these compounds alone. Mineralization of the complete mixture was estimated conservatively to be between 49.7 and 53.6% and was nearly 50% in 30 d of incubation when all compounds were radiolabeled. These results strengthen the argument for the potential application of Mycobacterium sp. PYR‐1 for bioremediation of PAH‐contaminated wastes.  相似文献

The composition of oil gland exudates from two oribatid mites, Trhypochthoniellus sp. and Trhypochthonius japonicus, was studied with reference to the related species Trhypochthoniellus crassus. Trhypochthoniellus sp. contained a mixture of seven compounds; (Z,Z)-6,9-heptadecadiene, geranial, 3-hydroxybenzene-1,2-dicarbaldehyde (γ-acaridial), neryl formate, neral, (Z)-8-heptadecene and geranyl formate in decreasing order of abundance. The profile of the components from T. japonicus consisted of two types depending on the locality of sampling with unknown reason; one possessing a mixture of eight compounds [(Z,E)-farnesal, γ-acaridial, (Z,Z)-6,9-heptadecadiene, (E,E)-farnesal, (Z)-8-heptadecene and geranial in decreasing order] together with two unknown compounds, and the other composed of the same set of compounds together with 2-hydroxy-6-methylbenzaldehyde as the most abundant component. Relative abundance among common components was consistent between the two types of T. japonicus. Profiles of components differed among three species including T. crasus. The phylogenetic relationship between Oribatida and Astigmata was discussed based on secretory compounds commonly distributed between these two suborders. In order to understand the biological significance of flower odour for attraction of mosquitoes, electrophysiological responses to headspace flower odour samples of Silene otites (L.) Wibel were investigated on Culex pipiens pipiens biotype molestus Forskal 1775 and Aedes aegypti L. using coupled gas chromatographic-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD). No remarkable differences in antennal responses to the odour compounds have been found between these two mosquito species. Further, the behavioural attractiveness of the electrophysiologically active compounds, singly or as multiple odour mixtures, was evaluated with bioassay experiments with C. pipiens molestus. In bioassays, C. pipiens responded to 14 electrophysiologically active compounds in different magnitudes (65–20%) and acetophenone, linalool oxide (pyranoid), phenyl acetaldehyde and phenylethyl alcohol were found as more attractive in comparison to the least attractive compound, hexanol. In two-stimulus choice test, mosquitoes were significantly more attracted to the mixture of the four most attractive compounds compared to the mixture of all 14 compounds. The results of present study confirm that floral odours are attractive cues for mosquitoes.  相似文献
