In random mating autopolyploid populations which have not reached equilibrium, two alleles may be interdependent as a result of the phenomenon of gametic recombination, i.e. the maintenance through successive gamete generations of an association of two alleles from the same gamete in a source reference generation. Any two alleles are dependent by this relationship if they derive by descent from the same ancestral gamete in the source population. Applied with the classical notion of identity by descent, the concept thus defined identifies new coefficients of dependence between arbitrary relatives. Coefficients of dependence are probabilities attached to the drawing of genes from two zygotes such that there are certain relationships amongst them. Applying the concept to autotetraploids, consideration of the states of dependence between the genes of a zygote or of a pair of zygotes leads to the definition of new parameters bearing on population means, variances and covariances, for arbitrary inbreeding. The absence of epistasis is supposed. Some applications of interest in artificial selection are briefly envisaged, with simplifying restrictions on genetic effects. Spatial distributions of biological variables are often well-characterized with pairwise measures of spatial autocorrelation. In this article, the probability theory for products and covariances of join-count spatial autocorrelation measures are developed for spatial distributions of multiple nominal (e.g. species or genotypes) types. This more fully describes the joint distributions of pairwise measures in spatial distributions of multiple (i.e. more than two) types. An example is given on how the covariances can be used for finding standard errors of weighted averages of join-counts in spatial autocorrelation analysis of more than two types, as is typical for genetic data for multiallelic loci.  相似文献

Serum levels of fructosamine were assayed in 57 samples from 23 Norwegian Red Cattle dairy cows in early lactation. The animals were assigned to a 22 factorial feeding experiment. The groups differed in energy and protein supply. All samples were collected before morning feeding. The relationship between fructosamine levels and the plasma concentrations of glucose, acetoacetate, free fatty acids, total cholesterol, lipoproteins, triglycerides, total proteins, progesterone and to weight and energy balance was studied. The overall mean fructosamine level was 1.41 ± 0.20 mmol/1 ranging from 0.92–1.92 mmol/1. Significant relationships were recorded between fructosamine and the concentrations of glucose, acetoacetate, free fatty acids, triglyceride, total cholesterol and energy and weight balance. Free fatty acids and cholesterol showed the best correlation with fructosamine (rs =–0.67 and 0.70, respectively, p < 0.001). The levels of fructosamine increased significantly between 2 and 4 weeks and between 4 and 8 weeks after calving. Animals with a weight gain during 3 weeks prior to fructosamine measurement had higher fructosamine levels than those showing a weight loss (<–7 kg/week) (p < 0.05). The results indicate that serum fructosamine levels in cows may be of interest as an indicator of metabolic status in the early stages of lactation.  相似文献

Progeny testing of sires is costly as well as time consuming. The cost and testing time for part sample of sires can be reduced by basing sire evaluation on partial first lactation records. But it results in genetic loss due to decrease in the accuracy of selection. The present paper is an empirical attempt to study the optimum level of preliminary culling on partial records from two different considerations for both large and small populations. It is seen that even for moderate genetic correlation between partial and complete records ( = 0.6) preliminary culling as high as 50% can be effected with advantage.  相似文献

Using Cockerham's approach of orthogonal scales, we develop genetic models for the effect of an arbitrary number of multiallelic quantitative trait loci (QTLs) or neutral marker loci (NMLs) upon any number of quantitative traits. These models allow the unbiased estimation of the contributions of a set of marker loci to the additive and dominance variances and covariances among traits in a random mating population. The method has been applied to an analysis of allozyme and quantitative data from the European oyster. The contribution of a set of marker loci may either be real, when the markers are actually QTLs, or apparent, when they are NMLs that are in linkage disequilibrium with hidden QTLs. Our results show that the additive and dominance variances contributed by a set of NMLs are always minimum estimates of the corresponding variances contributed by the associated QTLs. In contrast, the apparent contribution of the NMLs to the additive and dominance covariances between two traits may be larger than, equal to or lower than the actual contributions of the QTLs. We also derive an expression for the expected variance explained by the correlation between a quantitative trait and multilocus heterozygosity. This correlation explains only a part of the genetic variance contributed by the markers, i.e., in general, a combination of additive and dominance variances and, thus, provides only very limited information relative to the method supplied here.  相似文献

Fifty-six human and 24 adult dairy cattle isolates of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium from a single county in California were compared using ribotyping, insertion sequence typing (IS200), pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, plasmid typing, phage typing, and antimicrobial resistance testing. The majority of the isolates fell into one of two groups which were phage types DT104 and DT193. Combining the information from all typing methods, a total of 45 different “clusters” were defined, with 35 of those including only a single isolate. The library of isolates had a high degree of variability, but antibiotic resistance and plasmid typing each defined single clusters in which human or bovine isolates predominated (χ2, P < 0.05).  相似文献

随机选取来源于中国西藏24个不同行政县的181份近缘野生大科材料,其中包括47份六棱野生大麦,134份二棱野生大麦,选用青藏高原的二棱野生大麦(W2),欧洲的代表品种Betzes大麦及以色列的二棱野生大麦(Is)作对照。利用A-PAGE(Acidic-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis)法进行了醇溶蛋白遗传多态性的研究。结果表明,184份供试材料共得到60种不同的电泳图谱,说明西藏近缘野生大麦醇溶蛋白遗传多态性非常丰富,其中有38种图谱为单一材料所独有,以ZYM0019和ZYM1488材料为代表的2种醇溶蛋白图谱占供试材料的29.3%,在西藏分布较为普遍,聚类分析表明地理环境相似的地区有着相似的图谱类型,图谱类型与地理生态环境具有一定的相关性。讨论了中国近缘野生大麦醇溶蛋白的多态性与地理分布的关系。以及栽培大麦的起源中心等问题。  相似文献

Pten is a tumor suppressor gene regulating many cellular processes, including growth, adhesion, and apoptosis. In the aim of investigating the role of Pten during mammary gland development and lactation of dairy cows, we analyzed Pten expression levels in the mammary glands of dairy cows by using western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) assays. Dairy cow mammary epithelial cells (DCMECs) were used to study the function of Pten in vitro. We determined concentrations of β-casein, triglyceride, and lactose in the culture medium following Pten overexpression and siRNA inhibition. To determine whether Pten affected DCMEC viability and proliferation, cells were analyzed by CASY-TT and flow cytometry. Genes involved in lactation-related signaling pathways were detected. Pten expression was also assessed by adding prolactin and glucose to cell cultures. When Pten was overexpressed, proliferation of DCMECs and concentrations for β-casein, triglyceride, and lactose were significantly decreased. Overexpression of Pten down-regulated expression of MAPK, CYCLIN D1, AKT, MTOR, S6K1, STAT5, SREBP1, PPARγ, PRLR, and GLUT1, but up-regulated 4EBP1 in DCMECs. The Pten siRNA inhibition experiments revealed results that opposed those from the gene overexpression experiments. Introduction of prolactin (PRL) increased secretion of β-casein, triglyceride, and lactose, but decreased Pten expression levels. Introduction of glucose also increased β-casein and triglyceride concentrations, but did not significantly alter Pten expression levels. The Pten mRNA and protein expression levels were decreased 0.3- and 0.4-fold in mammary glands of lactating cows producing high quality milk (milk protein >3.0%, milk fat >3.5%), compared with those cows producing low quality milk (milk protein <3.0%, milk fat <3.5%). In conclusion, Pten functions as an inhibitor during mammary gland development and lactation in dairy cows. It can down-regulate DCMECs secretion of β-casein, triglyceride, and lactose, and plays a critical role in lactation related signaling pathways.  相似文献

Milk and dairy products are an important source of choline, a nutrient essential for human health. Infant formula derived from bovine milk contains a number of metabolic forms of choline, all contribute to the growth and development of the newborn. At present, little is known about the factors that influence the concentrations of choline metabolites in milk. The objectives of this study were to characterize and then evaluate associations for choline and its metabolites in blood and milk through the first 37 weeks of lactation in the dairy cow. Milk and blood samples from twelve Holstein cows were collected in early, mid and late lactation and analyzed for acetylcholine, free choline, betaine, glycerophosphocholine, lysophosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylcholine, phosphocholine and sphingomyelin using hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, and quantified using stable isotope-labeled internal standards. Total choline concentration in plasma, which was almost entirely phosphatidylcholine, increased 10-times from early to late lactation (1305 to 13,535 µmol/L). In milk, phosphocholine was the main metabolite in early lactation (492 µmol/L), which is a similar concentration to that found in human milk, however, phosphocholine concentration decreased exponentially through lactation to 43 µmol/L in late lactation. In contrast, phosphatidylcholine was the main metabolite in mid and late lactation (188 µmol/L and 659 µmol/L, respectively), with the increase through lactation positively correlated with phosphatidylcholine in plasma (R 2 = 0.78). Unlike previously reported with human milk we found no correlation between plasma free choline concentration and milk choline metabolites. The changes in pattern of phosphocholine and phosphatidylcholine in milk through lactation observed in the bovine suggests that it is possible to manufacture infant formula that more closely matches these metabolites profile in human milk.  相似文献
