Abstract Cage and field experiments with Fipronil were carried out in Guomaying (Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province) to determine the mode of action, persistence, and the lowest dosage required of this new insecticide in the management of pasture grasshoppers. Three dominant species Angaracris rhodopa, Myrmeleotettix palpalis and Chorthippus dubius were chosen as the experimental materials. The results showed that Fipronil was a powerful contact and stomach poison against different grasshoppers at very low dosages of 4 and 8 g a. i/ha. In the cages, the difference between the effects of 4 and 8 g a. i. /ha of Fipronil on grasshoppers was usually negligible. The knocking down effects of contact were obviously quicker than that of stomach effect; no such difference was, however, found in the tests with the adults of M. palpalis. The persistent effect of Fipronil on the 5th instar of C. dubius nymphs was over 2 weeks. Four levels of Fipronil (2, 3, 5 and 10 g a. i. /ha) and five levels of 20% of Shamieling (90, 75, 60, 45, 30 g a. i. /ha) were compared in the field. The immediate effect of Fipronil was stronger than that of Shamieling. Differences among the effecw of different dosages of Fipronil were mainly shown in terms of survival rate of grasshoppers after the treatment. There was almost no difference as to control results. Twenty-six days after the treatment, the densities of grasshoppers remained at very low level in the quadrats treated by Fipronil at 3 g a. i. /ha or more. This suggested that the lowest dosage required was 3 g a. i. /ha in the field operation.  相似文献

Oxya is a genus of grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Acridoidea) attacking rice and other gramineous plants in Africa and Asia. In the present study, we characterized complete mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of three species, Oxya japonica japonica (15,427 bp), Oxya hainanensis (15,443 bp) and Oxya agavisa robusta (15,552 bp) collected from China. The three mitogenomes contained a typical gene set of metazoan mitogenomes and shared the same gene order with other Acridid grasshoppers, including the rearrangement of tRNAAsp and tRNALys. Analyses of pairwise genetic distances showed that ATP8 was the least conserved gene, while COI the most conserved. To determine the position of Oxya grasshoppers in the phylogeny of Acrididae, we reconstructed phylogenetic trees among 64 species from across 11 subfamilies using nucleotide sequences of mitogenomes. While the tree confirms traditional classifications of Acrididae at major higher-levels, it suggests a few modifications for classifications at lower-levels.  相似文献

The development and adoption of transgenic (Bt) crops that express the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxin has reduced the use of synthetic insecticide on transgenic crops to target Helicoverpa spp., the major insect pest of cotton in Australia. However, it has also increased the threat posed by sucking pests, particularly Creontiades dilutus (green mirid), which are unaffected by the Bt toxins in transgenic cotton crops. Here we report the efficacy of the entomopathogenic fungus Aspergillus sp. (BC 639) in controlling the infestation of transgenic cotton crops by C. dilutus and promoting interactions of transgenic cotton with beneficial insects. The results showed that the number of C. dilutus adults and nymphs recorded on plots treated with 1000, 750, 500, 250 ml/ha BC 639 fungus formulation were the same as on plots treated with the recommended concentration of the commercial insecticide Fipronil. The fungus was found to have minimal effect on predatory insects compared with Fipronil and was most effective against C. dilutus when applied at the rate of 500 ml/ha (equivalent to 50 g spores/ha). At this rate, the fungus was as effective as Fipronil for controlling C. dilutus populations and ensured the survival of predatory beetles, lacewings and spiders compared with Fipronil treatment. The yield from fungus-treated plots was 5.24 bales per acre compared with 5.40 and 3.88 bales per acre for Fipronil-treated and unsprayed plots, respectively. The ability of the BC 639 strain to control C. dilutus infestations of transgenic cotton crops while conserving beneficial insect populations suggests its potential for supplementing integrated pest management programs to reduce the use of synthetic insecticides for transgenic cropping systems.  相似文献

Growth of the ornamental fish industry is being hindered by the scarcity of low cost feed; hence alternative protein supplements should be explored. In this context the present study aims to evaluate whether the grasshopper Oxya fuscovittata could be used as a supplement for fish meal in the diets of Poecillia sphenops, which is one of the most common ornamental fishes worldwide. The present work is divided into three phases: In the first phase proximate composition of the grasshopper is obtained and five diets are prepared where fish meal is gradually replaced by Oxya meal and named as control, D1, D2, D3 and D4. All the diets are formulated on iso-nitrogenous basis where the protein percentage is fixed at 400 g/kg. The second phase deals with feeding trial and in the third phase all the data of the feeding trial are subjected to a linear model. The feeding trial shows that the control, D1 and D2 fed fishes have almost similar results. The linear model proves that the variation in the indices are mainly due to replacement of fish meal by Oxya meal, not due to the variations of rice husk and mustard oil cake that are also used to formulate the diets of the present study. From the results two Oxya supplemented diets, i.e. D1 and D2 are proved to be almost equivalent to the control diet. Hence it is concluded that Oxya meal is able to replace 25% to 50% of fish meal from the diets of P. sphenops.  相似文献

This study was set up to examine the effect of plot patterns on the accuracy of phytosociological characterization of tropical vegetation. Fifteen and twenty square plots of 1 ha were demarcated, respectively, in woodland and dense forest in Bénin. Each 1 ha plot was divided into 100 quadrats of one 100 m2. Species of trees in each quadrat were identified and recorded. The cost in terms of time required to record tree species in each 1 ha plot and five random quadrats in a 1 ha plot were also recorded to compute the mean inventory effort for a team of three foresters. From the 100 quadrats in a 1 ha plot, fourteen independent subplots of square and rectangular plots with different sizes were considered by grouping together adjacent quadrats of 100 m2. Eigenanalysis was carried out to compare the subplots. Moreover, the relationship between the relative loss of accuracy (RLA) and the size of subplots was modelled. Plot size highly influenced the RLA (P < 0.05). Findings indicated that the square plots of 1500 and 1000 m2 with an inventory effort of 0.35 and 0.20 man‐days per subplot, respectively in tropical dense forests and woodlands appeared to be the most efficient in the phytosociological characterization of woody vegetation.  相似文献

Iprodione applied to seed at 250 g a.i./kg controlled white rot in autumn-sown salad onions until July the following year, and reduced losses during the winter caused by Botrytis spp. At 25–150 g a.i./kg seed, iprodione controlled autumn and spring infections but it was less effective later in the summer. Treatment of autumn-sown onions at 50 g a.i./kg seed followed in March by a single stem base spray at 0.031 g a.i./m row (total rate c. 2.4 kg a.i./ha) gave complete control; seed treatment at 25 g a.i./kg followed by a stem base spray at 0.125 g a.i./m row (c. 4.5 kg a.i./ha) was equally effective. Four stem base sprays of iprodione at 0.075 g a.i./m row/spray (9 kg a.i./ha) applied in spring to plants raised from untreated seed, controlled spring and summer infections but yields were low because of losses caused by infection in the previous autumn. A single stem base spray of iprodione at 0.125 g a.i./m row applied in spring to plants raised from thiophanate-methyl treated seed at 125 g a.i./kg gave complete control and high yields.  相似文献

Nitrogen fixation by Spirillum sp. obtained from the roots of rice plants grown at different levels of combined nitrogen was studied. The roots of rice plants exposed to low levels of combined nitrogen (20–40 kg N/ha) harboured Spirillum sp. possessing higher nitrogen-fixing efficiency as compared to the cultures from plants receiving 60–100 kg N/ha. More-over, the nitrogen-fixing efficiency of these Spirillum spp. varied with age of the plant, irrespective of the dosage of combined nitrogen.  相似文献

Summary We tested whether grasshoppers in experimental field environments, i.e. cages (40×40 cm) placed on existing old field vegetation, (1) were limited in density by plant abundance and/or nitrogen content, (2) exhibited interspecific competition, and (3) altered the relative abundance of different plant species. We examined interactions among a pair of early season grasshopper species (May–June; Arphia conspersa and Pardalophora apiculata) and a late season pair (July–August; Melanoplus femur-rubrum and Melanoplus bivittatus). Each grasshopper species was placed in cages by itself and with another grasshopper species. Grasshoppers generally survived at higher density in fertilized cages and they reduced plant abundance relative to empty cages, suggesting that grasshoppers may be food limited at these densities. In unfertilized plots, early season grasshoppers preferred grasses (Schizachyrium scoparium and Poa pratensis) and favored the growth of forbs (especially Solidago spp.). However, late in summer, Melanoplus spp. preferred Solidago spp. and favored the growth of grasses. The pattern of grasshopper survivorship and plant reduction within these experimental environments provide preliminary support for some of the predictions of resource competition theory. Grasshoppers exhibited interspecific competition only if they significantly reduced plant biomass. If two species competed, a grasshopper species was eliminated only if the superior competitor, when living by itself, could reduce plant biomass to a significantly lower level than the inferior competitor. Competitors persisted only if they did not differ in their ability to reduce plant biomass or reduced the abundance of different plant species.  相似文献

Bacterial leaf blight of rice (BLB), caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv oryzae, is one of the most serious bacterial diseases in China. Presently, bismerthiazol has been the major bactericide for the control of BLB, however, bismerthiazol‐resistant strains of X. oryzae pv. oryzae have appeared in the field in China. Zinc thiazole is a novel bactericide with strong antibacterial activity against Xanthomonas spp. In this study, sensitivity of 109 X. oryzae pv. oryzae strains to zinc thiazole was determined. The EC50 values for zinc thiazole in inhibiting bacterial growth of the 109 X. oryzae pv. oryzae strains were 0.53–9.62 µg mL?1 with the average EC50 value of 4.82 ± 1.86 µg/ml. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of zinc thiazole against the 109 X. oryzae pv. oryzae strains were assessed and the results showed that the MIC values of zinc thiazole for completely inhibiting the growth of these 109 strains ranged from 5.0 to 40.0 µg mL?1. In the evaluation of protective and curative activity test, zinc thiazole exhibited great activity against BLB and provided over 88% control efficacy (at 300 µg mL?1) 1 and 3 days before or after inoculations, which was also higher that that of bismerthiazol in the corresponding treatments. Our field trials showed that zinc thiazole at 375 g.a.i ha?1 provided over 70% control efficacy in 2012 and over 80% control efficacy in 2013 at both sites. Moreover, in all the four field trials, zinc thiazole at 250 g.a.i ha?1 provided higher control efficacy than that of bismerthiazol at 250 g.a.i ha?1. Taken together, zinc thiazole is therefore an alternative tool for the management of BLB.  相似文献

An isolate of Bipolaris eleusines was investigated as a potential candidate for biocontrol of barnyardgrass and additional weeds in paddy rice fields and for safety to selected crop species under greenhouse conditions. Barnyardgrass appeared more susceptible at the three-leaf stage than older plants, and disease severity increased as the fungal inoculum increased from 1 × 105 to 1 × 107 conidia/ml when sprayed till run-off. The high application rate caused 73% mortality of barnyardgrass, relative to the non-treated control, but increasing application rate to >1 × 107 conidia/ml did not enhance efficacy (P >.05). This B. eleusines isolate showed no pathogenicity to rice (Oryza sativa spp. indica, O. sativa spp. japonica and an O. sativa hybrid), corn, wheat or any dicot crop species tested while causing slight infection on sorghum and barley. We conclude that B. eleusines, with high efficacy against barnyardgrass and demonstrated safety to rice, is a promising mycoherbicide candidate worthy of further evaluation and development for control of barnyardgrass in paddy rice fields.  相似文献

Scleractinian coral recruitment patterns were studied at depths of 9, 18, 27 and 37 m on the east and west walls of Salt River submarine canyon, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, by censusing coral juveniles which settled on experimental settling plates placed on the reef for 3–26 months as well as coral juveniles within quadrats on the reef. The most common species in the juvenile population within quadrats were Agaricia agaricites, Porites astreoides, Madracis decactis, Stephanocoenia michelinii, and A. lamarcki. The only species settling on settling plates were Agaricia spp., Madracis decactis, Porites spp., Stephanocoenia michelinii and Favia fragum. A total of 271 corals settled on 342 plates, with 51% of the juveniles on the east wall and 49% on the west wall. Of these 34% settled on horizontal surfaces and 66% on vertical surfaces. Based on results from quadrats, Agaricia agaricites and Porites astreoides had high recruitment rates relative to their abundance on the reef. In contrast, Agaricia lamarcki, Montastraea annularis, M. cavernosa and Siderastrea siderea had high amounts of cover compared to their abundance as juveniles within quadrats. The mean number of juveniles per m2 within quadrats ranged from 3 to 42. In general, there was a decrease in the mean number of juveniles and the number of species with depth. Total number of juveniles on settling plates was highest at 18 m on both walls. The largest number within quadrats was at 18 m on the east wall, followed by 9 m and 18 m on the west wall. High rates of coral recruitment tended to be associated with low algal biomass and relatively high grazing pressure by urchins and fishes.  相似文献

Summary Four experimental formulations ofBacillus sphaericus Neide (2362 isolate) were evaluated for larvicidal activity against culicine and anopheline larvae in several natural and artificial habitats. A granular formulation (5% primary powder) was tested against natural populations of mosquitoes in two simulated habitats in Florida and in maturing and reflooded rice fields in Louisiana. Larvae ofCulex quinquefasciatus Say were reduced by 97 and 99% after application of the granules at the rate of 10 kg/ha to polluted tanks and 2.5 kg/ha to sod-lined potholes, respectively. Anopheline andPsorophora columbiae (Dyar and Knab) larvae were reduced by 68 and 92–100%, respectively, after application of 5 kg granules/ha to rice fields. A flowable concentrate (12.8% primary powder) applied to unpolluted and organically enriched habitats in Florida at 0.25 kg/ha reduced populations ofCulex spp. by 93–100% and 99%, respectively. Sustained-release briquets (5% primary powder) applied at the rate of one half briquet/1.8 m2 sod-lined potholes reduced larval populations ofCx. quinquefasciatus by 88–95% for up to 2 weeks in open sunlight. Sustained-release pellets (30% primary powder) applied to small woodland pools in Memphis, TN at the rate of four pellets/pool virtually eliminated larval populations ofCx. restuans Theobald for over 8 days. Variable persistance of larvicidal activity was noted for the other treatments depending on the formulation, target species and habitat.  相似文献

Biomass estimates of potential waterfowl foods are fundamental to estimating foraging carrying capacity of waterfowl habitat by conservation planners and managers of the North American Waterfowl Management Plan-Gulf Coast Joint Venture (GCJV). Rice and moist-soil seeds in Gulf Coast rice fields provide principal sources of energy for waterfowl during migration and winter. We investigated spatio-temporal biomass dynamics of these seeds and modeled their variation in production and idled rice fields in southwestern Louisiana, southeastern Texas, and the Texas Mid-Coast, USA, in August and November 2010–2013. We hypothesized that previous estimates of November rice and moist-soil seed biomass from the Mississippi Alluvial Valley were not applicable to the GCJV region because climate and agricultural production practices (e.g., ratooning, crayfish [Procambrus spp.] aquaculture) are primary inter-regional contrasts. Waste-rice biomass was greatest in November in fields with an unharvested second crop of rice from tillers of original plants (i.e., ratoon crop; 837.7 kg[dry]/ha; CV = 16.7%) and least in fields without a ratoon crop (119.3 kg/ha; CV = 18.5%). Moist-soil seed biomass was greatest in idled rice fields in October (477.3 kg/ha; CV = 24.8%), where substrate and rice stubble were disked at the time of sampling, and in idled fields with standing native vegetation in November (304.8 kg/ha; CV = 17.1%). Field-level variation in waste rice in production fields in November was best explained by an interaction between field management (e.g., harvested ratoon) and rice variety. We were unable identify a reliable predictor of field-level variation in moist-soil seed biomass in idled fields for July–August or November (i.e., null model was best or competitive). Substituting existing seasonal moist-soil and rice seed biomass estimates in GCJV planning models with those from our study would result in a seasonally flooded habitat objective 76% (101,974 ha) greater than the current GCJV estimate for 3 rice-growing planning areas. We encourage conservation planners in the GCJV region to use biomass estimates from our study because they are reasonably precise for planning and implementation (i.e., CV ~ 20%) and represent most contemporary patterns of farming practices and food abundance in this region. Further, programs and incentives that promote production of ratoon rice crops and allow growth of naturally occurring vegetation in idled rice fields, followed by shallow flooding during November–February, would significantly enhance food resources for waterfowl and other waterbirds in this important landscape for North American avifauna. © 2020 The Wildlife Society.  相似文献

A preliminary attempt was made to quantify the alpha diversity of fiddler crabs (Uca spp.) along a short transect across the interface between an intertidal mudflat and a largely Avicennia mangrove at Ambeua on the Indonesian island of Kaledupa in Sulawesi Tenggara, by means of visual counts within 2 m2 quadrats. An astounding diversity of up to six seemingly coexisting species per quadrat—and a total of seven such species within an area of 4 m2—was revealed. Four species of the ecologically equivalent sentinel crabs (Macrophthalmus) were also present in the quadrats. Seven fiddler crab species equates to more than half those known from Wallacea, more than one-third of all those known from Indonesia, and almost one-fifth of the entire Uca fauna of the Indo-West-Pacific.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Waterfowl habitat conservation strategies in the Mississippi Alluvial Valley (MAV) and several other wintering areas assume carrying capacity is limited by available food, and increasing food resources is an effective conservation goal. Because existing research on winter food abundance and depletion is insufficient to test this hypothesis, we used harvested rice fields as model foraging habitats to determine if waste rice seed is depleted before spring migration. We sampled rice fields (n = 39 [winter 2000–2001], n = 69 [2001–2002]) to estimate seed mass when waterfowl arrived in late autumn and departed in late winter. We also placed exclosures in subsets of fields in autumn (n = 8 [2000–2001], n = 20 [2001–2002]) and compared seed mass inside and outside exclosures in late winter to estimate rice depletion attributable to waterfowl and other processes. Finally, we used an experiment to determine if the extent of rice depletion differed among fields of varying initial abundance and if the seed mass at which waterfowl ceased foraging or abandoned fields differed from a hypothesized giving-up value of 50 kg/ha. Mean seed mass was greater in late autumn 2000 than 2001 (127.0 vs. 83.9 kg/ha; P = 0.018) but decreased more during winter 2000–2001 than 2001–2002 (91.3 vs. 55.7 kg/ha) and did not differ at the end of winter (35.8 vs. 28.3 kg/ha; P = 0.651). Assuming equal loss to deterioration inside and outside exclosures, we estimated waterfowl consumed 61.3 kg/ha (48.3%) of rice present in late autumn 2000 and 21.1 kg/ha (25.1%) in 2001. When we manipulated late-autumn rice abundance, mean giving-up mass of rice seed was similar among treatments (48.7 kg/ha; P = 0.205) and did not differ from 50 kg/ha (P = 0.726). We integrated results by constructing scenarios in which waterfowl consumed rice at different times in winter, consumption and deterioration were competing risks, and consumption occurred only above 50 kg/ha. Results indicated waterfowl likely consumed available rice soon after fields were flooded and the amount consumed exceeded our empirical estimates but was ≤48% (winters pooled) of rice initially present. We suggest 1) using 50 kg/ha as a threshold below which profitability limits waterfowl feeding in MAV rice fields; 2) reducing the current estimate (130 kg/ha) of rice consumed in harvested fields to 47.1 kg/ha; and 3) increasing available rice by increasing total area of fields managed, altering management practices (e.g., staggered flooding), and exploring the potential for producing second or ratoon rice crops for waterfowl.

Summary The influence of some insecticides often used in agriculture upon the terrestrial predaceous arthropods was investigated by pitfall trapping on cereal fields of about 10 hectares each, half the area of which was treated.Fenitrothion, sprayed by aeroplane at the normal dosage (600 g/ha in 40 1 water) influenced the abundance of Pterostichus vulgaris and P. niger only, for a short period. Spraying fenitrothion at a higher dosage (900 g/ha in 350 1 water) killed a high percentage of the five most common carabid species.Parathion-ethyl at the normal dosage (125 g/ha in 300 1 water), sprayed at the beginning of June reduced numbers of spring breeders especially (e.g. Pterostichus cupreus). Sprayed at the end of June, it influenced both spring and autumn breeders (e.g. P. vulgaris). Rain, falling one day after the insecticide treatment, did not alter its effect upon the terrestrial predators. At a higher dosage (250 g/ha) parathion-ethyl reduced numbers of all predators to a large extent, but not very much more than at the normal dosage.Parathion-methyl dust, applied to moist plants (200 g a.i./ha), did not influence all terrestrial predators, but only those species which also climb up the plants (some staphylinids and Agonum dorsale).Methoxychlor emulsion, sprayed at a dosage of 600 g/ha in 300 1 water, killed the bigger ground beetles only (Carabus spp. and P. vulgaris), but not the smaller ones (Agonum dorsale and Bembidion lampros), the staphylinids and the spiders. Methoxychlor, dust, applied to moist plants (1000 g a.i./ha) did not influence the terrestrial predators. Treating the edge only (ca. 20 m) of a winter-rape field with methoxychlor dust did not prevent the colonization of the field by carabids and staphylinids. It is recommended, therefore, to treat the field edges only, which should control most cereal pests.

Trends in coral cover are widely used to indicate the health of coral reefs but are costly to obtain from field survey over large areas. In situ studies of reflected spectra at the coral surface show that living and recently dead colonies can be distinguished. Here, we investigate whether such spectral differences can be detected using an airborne remote sensing instrument. The Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (Itres Research Ltd, Canada) was flown in two configurations: 10 spectral bands with 1-m2 pixels and 6 spectral bands with 0.25-m2 pixels. First, we show that an instrument with 10 spectral bands possesses adequate spectral resolution to distinguish living Porites, living Pocillopora spp., partially dead Porites, recently dead Porites (total colony mortality within 6 months), old dead (>6 months) Porites, Halimeda spp., and coralline red algae when there is no water column to confuse spectra. All substrata were distinguished using fourth-order spectral derivatives around 538 nm and 562 nm. Then, at a shallow site (Tivaru) at Rangiroa Atoll, Tuamotu Archipelago (French Polynesia), we show that live and dead coral can be distinguished from the air to a depth of at least 4 m using first- and fourth-order spectral derivatives between 562–580 nm. However, partially dead and recently dead Porites colonies could not be distinguished from an airborne platform. Spectral differences among substrata are then exploited to predict the cover of reef substrata in ten 25-m2 plots at nearby Motu Nuhi (max depth 8 m). The actual cover in these plots was determined in situ using quadrats with a 0.01-m2 grid. Considerable disparity occurred between field and image-based measures of substrate cover within individual 25-m2 quadrats. At this small scale, disparity, measured as the absolute difference in cover between field and remote-sensing methods, reached 25% in some substrata but was always less than 10% for living coral (99% of which consisted of Porites spp.). At the scale of the reef (all ten 25-m2 quadrats), however, disparities in percent cover between imagery and field data were less than 10% for all substrata and extremely low for some classes (e.g. <3% for living Porites, recently dead Porites and Halimeda). The least accurately estimated substrata were sand and coralline red algae, which were overestimated by absolute values 7.9% and 6.6%, respectively. The precision of sampling was similar for field and remote-sensing methods: field methods required 19 plots to detect a 10% difference in coral cover among three reefs with a statistical power of 95%. Remote-sensing methods required 21 plots. However, it took 1 h to acquire imagery over 92,500 m2 of reef, which represents 3,700 plots of 25 m2 each, compared with 3 days to survey 10 such plots underwater. There were no significant differences in accuracy between 1-m2 and 0.25-m2 image resolutions, suggesting that the advantage of using smaller pixels is offset by reduced spectral information and an increase in noise (noise was observed to be 1.6–1.8 times greater in 0.25-m2 pixels). We show that airborne remote sensing can be used to monitor coral and algal cover over large areas, providing that water is shallow and clear, and that brown fleshy macroalgae are scarce, that depth is known independently (e.g. from sonar survey).  相似文献

The invasive multicoloured Asian lady beetle, Harmonia axyridis (Pallas), and the indigenous twelve spotted lady beetle, Coleomegilla maculata DeGeer (Col., Coccinellidae), are two important generalist predators commonly found in apple orchards in Quebec, Canada. Both species are exposed to two reduced‐risk insecticides, recently adopted to control codling moth, Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lep., Tortricidae) in south‐eastern Canada. Chlorantraniliprole (Altacor® 35 WG), an anthranilic diamide insecticide, causes paralyses of the muscle cells by interfering with the insect ryanodine receptors, whereas novaluron (Rimon® EC 10), a benzoylphenyl urea, inhibits the chitin synthesis. The aim of this study was to compare the sensitivity of both the invasive ladybeetle H. axyridis and the indigenous C. maculata to reduced‐risk insecticides through the assessment of lethal effect on eggs and larvae following topical contact, ingestion of treated prey and exposure to fresh residues, at field rates (50.75 g a.i./ha chlorantraniliprole and 100 g a.i./ha novaluron) in laboratory conditions. Eggs of both species were not affected. Following 6 days of residual contact, chlorantraniliprole and novaluron caused more than 98% mortality to larvae of both ladybeetle species. In topical contact and ingestion trials, chlorantraniliprole caused less than 18% mortality to larvae of the two species after 6 days following exposure. Novaluron had a drastically different impact on the two predators. It did not affect the indigenous C. maculata, whereas it killed 91% and 96% of H. axyridis individuals after 6 days, respectively, following topical contact and ingestion. These results illustrate a differential sensitivity to novaluron between two relatively close species (subfamily Coccinellinae), a potential impact on the invasion process by H. axyridis, and consequently on the ladybeetle assemblage in the field.  相似文献

1. Each year since 1983, H3PO4 has been added continuously during the ice-free season to a P-limited tundra river (Kuparuk River, North Slope, Alaska). Effects on epilithic metabolism, invertebrate community structure and fish production developed quickly. 2. In 1990, 7 years after fertilization began, we noted extensive coverage by bryophytes within the fertilized reach of the river, where very little had been noted before. Bryophyte biomass from a limited set of quadrats taken in 1990 and 1991 yielded 17 ± 9 (SE) g dry mass m?2 in control reaches and 322 ± 96 g dry mass m?2 in fertilized reaches. 3. An initial survey of macroalgal and bryophyte cover in 1991 suggested that the moss Schistidium (Grimmia) agassizii was distributed in both control and fertilized reaches of the river. No clear difference in coverage by this species was found in either reach. 4. In contrast, two species of Hygrohypnum (H. alpestre and H. ochraceum) were found almost exclusively in the fertilized reach. An extensive point transect survey done in 1992, above, within and below the fertilized reach, indicated that increased cover and biomass of Hygrohypnum spp. were confined to the fertilized reach of the river. Detrended correspondence analysis clearly separated the macrophyte and macroalgal communities in the fertilized reach from those in the control and downstream reaches. 5. A fourth bryophyte species (Fontinalis neomexicana) also occurred almost exclusively in the fertilized reach, but was much less abundant than the Hygrohypnum species. 6. Analysis of total N and P in the tissues of the Hygrohypnum spp., and estimates of average coverage (~15%) and biomass (~150g dry weight m?2) over an 8km fertilized reach, suggest that these species alone may have removed two-thirds of the P added in the fertilizer experiment. The bryophyte community in this river is likely to be the dominant sink for P in the fertilized reach.  相似文献
