六盘山区辽东栎的实生苗更新及其影响因子   总被引:3,自引:2,他引:1       下载免费PDF全文
研究了六盘山区辽东栎(Quercus liaotungensis)灌丛的种子产量、土壤种子库组成、湿沙和风干贮藏对种子寿命的影响以及动物取食子叶对种子萌发和幼苗建立的影响。结果表明, 辽东栎灌丛种子的完好率为27.51%, 被动物取食或搬运种子的比例(41.51%)显著高于其他类型种子(p < 0.01); 辽东栎次生林土壤种子库中萌发和虫蛀种子分别占35.16%和38.29%, 完好种子仅占13.65%, 捕食动物主要通过贮藏或搬运而影响土壤种子库中的种子密度。湿沙贮藏60天的辽东栎种子自动萌发率高达96.67%, 短期贮藏可加快种子的萌发进程, 提高萌发率和萌发指数, 但随着贮藏时间的延长, 种子萌发进程延迟, 萌发率、萌发指数和活力指数均不同程度地降低。排除动物取食处理的幼苗在林窗和林下生境的存活率分别为80%和83%, 而不排除动物取食幼苗在2种生境中分别仅有25%和31%能够存活, 表明子叶在幼苗建立中具有重要作用。林窗中幼苗子叶的动物取食率(85.00%)高于林下(71.00%), 子叶留存的幼苗在林窗中的存活率(6.00%)低于林下(15.50%), 而子叶被取食幼苗的存活率在两种环境中基本相等(分别为18.50%和18.00%)。  相似文献

Vicilin and legumin, the storage globulins of mature dry vetch (Vicia sativa L.) seeds, are found in protein bodies which are present not only in the cotyledons, but also in the radicle, axis and shoot (together, for reasons of simplicity, here called axis). When at 24 h after the start of imbibition (hai) the radicle breaks through the seed coat a major part of the globulins in the axis has already been degraded, whereas in the cotyledons globulin breakdown cannot yet be detected. Globulin mobilization starts with the degradation of vicilin. At 48 hai when globulin mobilization in the cotyledons just begins, the axis is already nearly depleted of globulins. Mobilization of storage globulin is probably brought about by a complex of different cysteine proteinases (CPRs). The papain-like CPR2 and CPR4, and the legumain-like VsPB2, together with their mRNAs, are already present in axes and cotyledons of dry seeds. This means that they must have been formed during seed maturation. Additional papain-like CPRs are formed later during germination and seedling growth. CPR4 and VsPB2 together with their corresponding mRNAs become undetectable as germination and seedling growth proceed. VsPB2 and VsPB2-mRNA are substituted by the homologous legumain-like proteinase B and its mRNA. The composition of stored and newly formed CPRs undergoes developmental changes which differ between axes and cotyledons. It is concluded that storage globulin mobilization in germinating vetch seeds is started by stored CPRs, whereas the mobilization of the bulk of globulin is predominantly mediated by CPRs which are formed de novo.  相似文献

Seeds age during storage, resulting in a decline in germination and seedling quality. Seed quality tests are important to monitor this decline. However, such tests are usually destructive and require large seed numbers and long time. For coffee seeds the standard germination test and assessment of seedling quality takes 30 days. Biospeckle has been used previously as a non‐destructive optical tool to monitor biological activity in a range of tissues. Biospeckle was applied 3–6 days after imbibition (DAI) to investigate an association with coffee seedling quality after 30 days. Two distinct areas of biospeckle activity were demonstrated, concurring with the locations of the embryonic axis and the cotyledons in the apical and central seed parts, respectively. Moisture content analysis revealed that embryos of imbibed seeds contained more water than endosperm. Different areas within the endosperm did not differ in moisture content, while the moisture content of the axis was higher than that of the cotyledons, and this did not change from 4 DAI. Therefore, it was concluded that high biospeckle activity was not the result of increased water content in any seed part, but more likely of growth and metabolism in the axis and cotyledons, which had been described previously. A threshold biospeckle ratio apical : central of 1.02 after 6 days distinguished between seeds that produced dead and viable seedlings after 30 days and provided similar results as a tetrazolium test, a widely acknowledged but destructive test for seed quality. Thus, biospeckle data provided a non‐destructive early parameter for seedling quality, based on embryo growth during germination.  相似文献

The activities of adenosylhomocysteinase (EC 3.3.1.1) and adenosine nucleosidase (EC 3.2.2.7) were assayed in extracts from yellow lupin (Lupinus luteus L.) cotyledons at different stages of seed formation and seedling development. Adenosylhomocysteinase activity was demonstrated in all the cotyledon extracts examined. Its lowest level was found in the dry seeds and the highest, in 4-day-old seedling cotyledons. Extracts from the cotyledons of maturating seeds, dry seeds, and seedlings up to the second day of growth exhibited no adenosine nucleosidase activity. Adenosine nucleosidase activity appeared in the cotyledons of 2-day-old seedlings and its highest level was reached in 4-to 5-day-old seedlings. There is no inhibitor of adenosine nucleosidase in the maturating and dry yellow lupin seeds. No activator of a possible zymogen form of adenosine nucleosidase from maturating or dry seeds occurs in the growing seedlings.  相似文献

In chick-pea ( Cicer arietinum L.) seed germinated in the presence of 14C-lysine, the latter is taken up and partly metabolised to cadaverine and TCA-precipitable molecules. Labelled cadaverine is detectable in seedlings only after 3 days, on a labelled lysine-containing medium, as confirmed also by the presence of lysine decarboxylase (LDC) activity, measured in the embryo axis and cotyledons of the seed and in the epicotyl, cotyledons, hypocotyl and roots of the seedling on the basis of 14CO2 evolution from the labelled precursor. Putrescine biosynthesis occurred only via arginine decarboxylase (ADC) activities in soaked seeds and via both ADC and ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activities in seedlings. Both putrescine and cadaverine were present in soaked seed, and accumulated in very large amounts in the different portions of both 3- and 8-day-old seedlings, while spermidine and spermine titers were maintained at similar levels with respect to the seed. Diamine oxidase activity, measured by evaluating oxygen consumption in the presence of putrescine, was absent in ungerminated seed and appeared in 3- and 8-day-old seedlings. In order to clarify the metabolic relationships between cadaverine and the more common polyamines, gradients of biosynthesis, accumulation and degradation of putrescine and cadaverine along the seedling axis were compared, indicating that the two diamines behave similarly during seed germination and seedling development. Their conspicuous accumulation (up to 6 m M for putrescine) seems to be regulated mainly via oxidation rather than biosynthesis.  相似文献

To investigate the existence of coordinated sets of seedling traits adapted to contrasting establishment conditions, we examined evolutionary convergence in seedling traits for 299 French Guianan woody plant species and the stress response in a shadehouse of species representing seed size gradients within five major cotyledon morphology types. The French Guianan woody plant community has larger seeds than other tropical forest communities and the largest proportion of hypogeal cotyledon type (59.2%) reported for tropical forests. Yet the community includes many species with intermediate size seeds that produce seedlings with different cotyledonal morphologies. A split-plot factorial design with two light levels (0.8% and 16.1% PAR) and four damage treatments (control, seed damage, leaf damage, stem damage) was used in the shadehouse experiment. Although larger-seeded species had higher survival and slower growth, these patterns were better explained by cotyledon type than by seed mass. Even larger-seeded species with foliar cotyledons grew faster than species with reserve-type cotyledons, and survival after stem grazing was five times higher in seedlings with hypogeal cotyledons than with epigeal cotyledons. Thus, to predict seedling performance using seed size, seedling morphology must also be considered.  相似文献

The dipeptidase activity of an unpurified soluble extract of the cotyledons of Cucurbita maxima Duch. var. Hubbard remained unchanged during the first 2 days of germination and then increased at a rapid rate during the next 3 days. The dipeptidase activity of two of three lots of seeds required the presence of the embryo axis for maximal dipeptidase activity, whereas the third lot was uninfluenced by the embryo axis. This discrepancy was possibly due to genetic differences. In those seeds which required the presence of the embryo axis for maximal dipeptidase activity, the cytokinin benzyladenine could replace the embryonic axis. When the protein synthesis inhibitor cycloheximide was added to the seeds at the beginning of germination, it inhibited dipeptidase activity of the cotyledons from 26 to 55 per cent, depending of the basis of calculation, at 5 days. When the cycloheximide was added to 3-day-old seedling the inhibition of dipeptidase activity in the cotyledons was almost immediate. The relative hydrolysis of -leucylglycine and glycylglycine were compared after temperature inactivation and purification; the results showed that more than one enzyme was responsible for the dipeptidase activity. The presence of a dialysable dipeptidase inhibitor(s) was demonstrated. Relatively high dipeptidase activity was also found in the roots and shoots.  相似文献

In bromeliads, nothing is known about the associations fungi form with seeds and seedling roots. We investigated whether fungal associations occur in the seeds and seedling roots of two epiphytic Aechmea species, and we explored whether substrate and fungal associations contribute to seed germination, and seedling survival and performance after the first month of growth. We found a total of 21 genera and 77 species of endophytic fungi in the seeds and seedlings for both Aechmea species by Illumina MiSeq sequencing. The fungal associations in seeds were found in the majority of corresponding seedlings, suggesting that fungi are transmitted vertically. Substrate quality modulated the germination and growth of seedlings, and beneficial endophytic fungi were not particularly crucial for germination but contributed positively to survival and growth. Overall, this study provides the first evidence of an endophytic fungal community in both the seeds and seedlings of two epiphytic bromeliads species that subsequently benefit plant growth.  相似文献

Seeds of Raphanus sativus L. subjected to accelerated ageing were investigated for reactive oxygen species (ROS) release and for content of vitamin E (tocopherol, TOC, and tocotrienol, TOC-3), fatty acids and phytosterols in seed coats, cotyledons and embryonic axes during germination. In unaged seeds, ROS release occurred mainly in seed coats of non-imbibed seeds and in seedlings (48?h of imbibition). TOC and TOC-3 were mainly represented by the ??-isoform, abundant in embryonic axes. Fatty acids were mainly found in cotyledons. In seed coat and embryonic axis, phytosterols consisted mainly of sitosterols. The effects of ageing were mainly visible in embryonic axes at 48?h of imbibition. Deterioration was associated with a decrease in fresh weight increase percentage, germination percentage, ??-TOC and total fatty acid content. An increase in ROS release from seed coats and in ??-TOC, ??-TOC, ??-TOC-3 content in embryonic axis was also observed. The use of ??-TOC and total fatty acids in embryonic axis as parameters of seed quality evaluation during storage was suggested.  相似文献

【目的】明确新疆野扁桃(Amygdalus ledebouriana)土壤种子库及幼苗更新特征,探究影响野扁桃种群更新受限因子。【方法】以新疆塔额盆地的野扁桃为研究对象,通过对野外样地调查、土样采集及母株下幼苗数量、级别统计的方法对新疆野扁桃土壤种子库及幼苗更新进行研究。【结果】(1)野扁桃土壤种子库种子平均密度为96.45粒/m2,托里居群完整种子密度最大,裕民居群被啃食种子密度最大,虫蛀种子仅在塔城居群出现;(2)野扁桃种子主要分布在枯枝落叶层,占种子总量的56.29%,S2(0—5 cm)土层占29.07%,S3(5—10 cm)土层占14.65%,土壤种子水平扩散距离与野扁桃所处坡度成正比;(3)调查的野扁桃幼苗中未发现实生苗,Ⅰ级苗占幼苗总数的51.13%,母株基部50 cm内的范围是野扁桃幼苗集中分布区域。【结论】野扁桃土壤种子库分布特征表现为近母株及地表,幼苗更新的特征也表现为近母株分布,自然条件下,被啃食种子、虫蛀种子和生态位缺失是野扁桃实生苗无法萌发,实生更新受限转而进行萌生更新的主要原因。  相似文献

The temporal and spatial patterns of storage-globulin mobilization were immunohistochemically pursued in the embryonic axis and cotyledons of vetch seed (Vicia sativa L.) during germination and early seedling growth. Embryonic axes as well as cotyledons of mature seeds contain protein bodies with stored globulins. Prevascular strands of axes and cotyledons, the radicle and epidermal layers of axis organs were nearly exclusively stained by vicilin antibodies whereas the cotyledonous storage mesophyll gave similar staining for vicilin and legumin. Globulin breakdown started locally where growth and differentiation commenced in the axis. There, vicilin mobilization preceded legumin mobilization. Thus vicilin represents the initial source of amino acids for early growth and differentiation processes in vetch. Legumin presumably only serves as a bulk amino acid source for subsequent seedling growth during postgerminative globulin degradation. During the first 2–3 d after the start of imbibition the axis was depleted of globulins whereas no decrease in immunostainability was detected in the cotyledons except in their vascular strands where immunostainability was almost completely lost at this time. Continuous vascular strands were established at the third day when globulin breakdown was finished in the axis but had just started in the cotyledon mesophyll. Protein mobilization proceeded in a small zone from the epidermis towards the vascular strands in the center of the cotyledons. In this zone the storage cells, which initially appeared densely packed with starch grains and protein bodies, concomitantly transformed into cells with a large central vacuole and only a thin cytoplasmic layer attached to the cell wall. These results agree well with the hypothesis that during the first 2 d after imbibition the axis is autonomous in amino acid provision. After the endogenous reserves of the axis are depleted and the conductive tissue has differentiated, globulins are mobilized in the cotyledons, suggesting that then the amino acid supply is taken over by the cotyledons. For comparison with other degradation patterns we used garden bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) and rape (Brassica napus L.) as reference plants. Studies in reproductive ecology were made in indigenous, western American plants in the genus Marah (Cucurbitaceae), with particular attention given plants of M. oreganus occurring in the Berkeley Hills near San Francisco Bay in California. These tuberous perennials produce capsular fruits on their annual aboveground shoots; the fruits dehisce in early summer, each one exposing about three large seeds with an average seed weight of 1.05 g. The embryo of a M. oreganus seed has two thick and fleshy cotyledons packed with protein granules. The embryonic axis, with shoot and root apices, is ca. 0.5-1.0 mm long, roughly ½0 or less the length of the seed. In the Berkeley Hills dispersal of the seeds is accomplished by nocturnal rodents, after which germination begins with the fall rains and cooler temperatures of November and December. Instead of a radicle emerging first from the seed at germination, the minute radicle and epicotyl are pushed or carried far out of the seed, down into the soil, by the elongating bases of the cotyledons. These cotyledon bases, or petioles, are fused, and as they elongate they form a hollow tube that bears the embryonic axis at its extreme tip. The cotyledonary petiole tube ceases elongation by January, when it may be 5-25 or more cm long in a seedling of M. oreganus. Then, from its tip, the radicle grows downward and the epicotyl upward—up the hollow petiole tube. The green shoot (epicotyl) reaches the soil surface by early March in this area, completes the first season's growth, and dries up by late May, when the arid summer season is beginning. But even before the epicotyl grows out of the petiole tube and above ground, the seedling's hypocotyl begins to enlarge, forming a tuber. The fleshy cotyledon blades remain in the seed coat below ground, and some food from the blades is transferred to the tuber that produces shoots in the following growing seasons. This pattern of germination and seedling establishment is now known for species of Marah and for a very few other dicotyledonous plants, all of them growing mainly in areas of hot and dry habitat that are generally referred to as having Mediterranean climate. This elongation of the fused hypogeal cotyledons is considered a complex adaptation in dicotyledons that helps ensure fast and successful seedling establishment in seasonally arid areas such as “Mediterranean” California.  相似文献

We have shown that amide-linked IAA (indole-3-acetic acid) conjugates accumulated to high levels during maturation of bean seeds (K. Bialek and J.D. Cohen [1989] Plant Physiol 91: 775-779). In the present study, we were interested in the fate of these and other IAA conjugates during seed germination. The content of amide-linked conjugates of IAA in cotyledons declined dramatically during the first hours of imbibition. The rate of decline slowed markedly during the period of the resumption of axis growth. The level of amide-linked IAA conjugates in cotyledons remained relatively high after almost 1 week of germination. The decline of IAA conjugates in cotyledons was followed by a steady increase in the content of both free and amide-linked IAA in the embryonic axes. Amide-linked IAA conjugates were also present in the axes cultured on agar after the cotyledons were removed, which suggests that de novo production of these IAA conjugates occurs in the axis of germinating bean seedlings. A comparison of relative amounts of free and conjugated IAA in the axes of intact seedlings and axes cultured on agar showed lower levels of free IAA and higher levels of conjugated IAA in much slower growing isolated axes. These results suggest a more general role for IAA conjugates in the control of seedling growth than simply to serve as a seed storage form of auxin.  相似文献

It is generally accepted that larger seeds give rise to seedlings with better performance. On the other hand, the size that a seed reaches is genetically determined by at least two different traits ; the genetic variability of the developing embryo and the genetic variability of the maternal plant. Thus, the relative contributions of these two traits affect seedling performance by influencing seed size. In this paper, I investigate the effect of seed size on seedling performance in the Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris ). From eight maternal plants, 50 seeds were planted in each of two soil types (800 seeds in total), and seedling performance was monitored for 1 yr. Seed mass proved to be highly constant within maternal plants. Soil type influenced emergence and survival; however, the effect of soil type differed depending on maternal origin. Seed mass was positively correlated with seedling emergence, although this relationship was not found for seedling survival or date of emergence. The initial growth of the shoot was also positively correlated with seed mass. However, after one growing season, seed mass had no effect on seedling performance, which depended exclusively on maternal origin. Nevertheless, the mean mass of seeds produced by plants was positively correlated with mean values of growth parameters. Thus, first-year seedling performance seems to be a maternal trait indirectly associated with seed size.  相似文献

Although large seeds might be more attractive and apparent to seed predators, large seed size could enable tolerance of seed predators. If seeds are large enough to sustain damage that would kill smaller seeds yet still produce viable seedlings, investment above the minimum by the maternal plant could be advantageous. I tested this hypothesis by removing 0–80 percent of the cotyledons of four large-seeded (4–180 g) tree species from Papua New Guinea and monitoring germination and seedling growth for eight months. All species showed little negative effect on seedling size with up to 50 percent removal of cotyledons and the larger species showed a less serious effect on growth than smaller-seeded species above 50 percent removal. Large-seeded species clearly have more than the minimum-required cotyledonary reserves. Observations of viable seedlings with heavily damaged cotyledons suggest that these species withstand attack by rodents and beetles by virtue of their large size.  相似文献

Active polyamine metabolism occurs in Glycine max (L.) seeds during development. Most (≥97%) of putrescine (Put), spermidine (Spd), spermine (Spm), and cadaverine (Cad) are present as free forms in the growing embryo. In the cotyledon or embryonic axis, Put decreases to a nearly undetectable level, while Spd level sharply increases as seed dry weight accumulation progresses. Spm level in the axis also increases along with the Spd level. There is little change in Spm level in the cotyledons. Maturation and dehydration results in a slight reduction of Spd level in the cotyledons. Cad is present in relatively large quantities (5.5-12 micromoles per gram dry weight) in the axes of mature soybean seeds. Only traces of Cad, as expressed on a dry weight basis, are found in the developing or mature cotyledons. The synthesis and accumulation of Cad in the axis begins at the time when the axis or the seed accumulates 30 to 50% of its maximum dry weight. The Cad accumulation (0.8 nanomole per axis per day) proceeds until the later stages of dehydration. When soybean plants are subjected to complete defoliation and shade during the midpoint of seed maturation, Cad accumulation in the axis and seed dry weight accumulation ceased almost immediately. The treatment, however, does not affect the viability of soybean seeds.  相似文献

In A. angustifolia seeds the highest values of freeIAA occurred in the embryonic axis, at the initial phases of development. Thesevalues decreased sharply coincident with the increase of IAA with thedifferentiation of cotyledons and seed elongation. During seed development,tryptophan concentrations varied inversely with free IAA and directly withconjugated IAA. An increase in peroxidase activity was followed by a decreaseinfree IAA in the embryo axis, and in conjugated IAA in the megagametophyte.Megagametophyte tissues did not exhibit significant variation in free IAAduringseed development. Dung beetles relocate vertebrate feces under the soil surface, and this behavior has many ecological consequences. In tropical forests, for example, seeds defecated by mammals that are subsequently buried by dung beetles are less likely to suffer predation. While the effects of dung beetles on the fate of defecated seeds have been relatively well studied, their effect on seeds already buried in the soil has not. To contribute to fill this gap, we designed a study with three objectives: (a) Describe the vertical re‐distribution of soil seeds that occurs due to dung beetle activity; (b) Determine if beetle activity favors establishment of seedlings from the soil seed bank; and (c) Determine if the effect of dung beetles is stronger in sites of recurrent mammal defecation. We carried out three complementary field experiments, one with artificial seeds (plastic beads) of three sizes buried at known depths, one with two species of seeds buried at those same depths, and one with the natural soil seed bank in sites of single vs. recurrent defecation. Buried beads were moved by dung beetles along the vertical axis, both upwards (9.5%) and downwards (11.5%); smaller beads were more frequently moved downwards while the contrary occurred for larger beads. Dung beetle activity caused an increase in seedling establishment, both from experimentally buried seeds and from the natural seed bank. Defecation recurrence had no effect on seedling establishment. We conclude that dung beetle activity affects seed bank dynamics with important consequences for seedling establishment in tropical forests.Abstract in Spanish is available with online material.  相似文献
