运用熵权法对珠江三角洲自然保护区进行了综合评价。结果表明:(1)48个样本的保护区中7个为高水平,30个为较高水平,10个为一般,1个较差。从总体水平上看,虽然具有一部分较高水平的保护区,但珠江三角洲的保护区建设水平存在明显的差异,深圳、中山、佛山等地亟待建立新的保护区加以补充;(2)保护区的综合水平与面积具有明显的相关关系,建立了综合水平与面积之间的回归模型,并进一步求出珠江三角洲生态类型自然保护区理论上的最适宜面积;(3)区域保护区综合水平的提高与最大面积指数正相关,区域可以通过建设面积相对较大的优质保护区成为区域生态增长极,通过物种的交流和环境影响拉动其它保护区的发展,但区域范围内保护区之间面积差异不能太大;(4)自然干扰对沿海及岛屿类型的保护区综合水平影响相对较大。  相似文献

In this paper, we address the question of what proportion of biodiversity is represented within protected areas. We assessed the effectiveness of different protected area types at multiple scales in representing primate biodiversity in the Brazilian Legal Amazon. We used point locality data and distribution data for primate species within 1°, 0.5°, and 0.25° spatial resolution grids, and computed the area of reserves within each cell. Four different approaches were used – no reserves (A), exclusively strict use reserves (B), strict and sustainable use reserves (C), and strict and sustainable use reserves and indigenous lands (D). We used the complementarity concept to select reserve networks. The proportions of cells that were classified as reserves at a grid resolution of 1° were 37%, 64%, and 88% for approaches B, C and D, respectively. Our comparison of these approaches clearly showed the effect of an increase in area on species representation. Representation was consistently higher at coarser resolutions, indicating the effect of grain size. The high number of irreplaceable cells for selected networks identified based on approach A could be attributed to the use of point locality occurrence data. Although the limited number of point occurrences for some species may have been due to a Wallacean shortfall, in some cases it may also be the result of an actual restricted geographic distribution. The existing reserve system cannot be ignored, as it has an established structure, legal protection status, and societal recognition, and undoubtedly represents important elements of biodiversity. However, we found that strict use reserves (which are exclusively dedicated to biodiversity conservation) did not effectively represent primate species. This finding may be related to historical criteria for selecting reserves based on political, economic, or social motives.  相似文献

Highly protected marine reserves are areas of the sea in which human disturbances are minimised so that the full natural biological diversity is maintained or, more often, allowed to recover to a more natural state. Europe has very few marine reserves; they are very small and almost all are in the Mediterranean. There are at present no official plans to create effective systems of marine reserves. Europe has many so-called Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). These are marine areas with some extra regulations or planning procedures. MPAs aim to make human activities more efficient and more sustainable. MPAs are user-orientated, knowledge-based, locality-dependent, problem-solving extensions of standard marine planning and management. Marine reserves are quite different. All extractive and potentially disturbing human activities are prohibited. The burden of proof is reversed; no evidence of damage or danger to particular species or habitats is required; all marine life is protected on principle. The concept of marine reserves is simple and practical, but because it is new, different and additional to existing marine management, the idea is seen by many as revolutionary. Basic biological principles and practical experience in many countries make it clear that marine reserves are important to science and education, essential for conservation and useful in resource management. These features apply in all regions and ecosystems. They are independent of climate, biogeography, current human activities and the present management. Representative and viable systems of marine reserves are needed in all regions. Fishing and other human disturbances have been widespread and intensive for so long that it is very difficult to predict the stages of recovery that occur in marine reserves. Furthermore, while some features change rapidly (e.g. numbers of previously targeted species), recovery continues for a long time (e.g. fourth- and fifth-order trophic and structural changes after >25 years). None of this alters the fact that, in scientific terms, marine reserves are controls not manipulations. Such controls are required if scientists are to understand the intrinsic processes and obtain data that are not confounded by human activities (e.g. separating natural variation from fishing effects). No significant progress will be made to establish marine reserves in Europe until scientists speak out strongly and clearly on the issue. We consider it is part of our professional duty as marine biologists to state publicly and frequently the need for a representative, replicated, networked and sustainable system of highly protected marine reserves. We quantified seasonal variation in body composition and morphology of adult muskrats ( Ondatra zibethicus ) inhabiting freshwater marsh environments in central Saskatchewan, Canada. The study areas were characterized by long and cold winters extending over six months during which muskrats were restricted to foraging under ice. A total of 162 adult muskrats were collected during nine sampling periods across the year. The large accumulation of fat reserves (16% of body mass) during winter and the concurrent decline in protein mass suggested a reduced maintenance requirement associated with the presence of energy-rich food resources. Dietary fibre content increased significantly during mid-summer and was manifested by changes in gut morphology. Mobilization of fat reserves during summer months by both sexes reflected high energetic demands for reproduction. Males depleted fat reserves soon after spring break-up, while near-exhaustion of fat reserves in females occurred 4–6 weeks later, during lactation. Pregnant females contained significantly greater fat and protein reserves compared to non-pregnant and lactating females. The dynamics of body reserves in muskrats should be viewed as an integral part of the sex-specific life-history traits of this important herbivore species of marsh environments.  相似文献

Aeromonas hydrophila has for some time been regarded as an opportunistic pathogen in hosts with impaired local or general defence mechanisms. Infections in such individuals are generally severe. The organism is also being isolated with increasing frequency throughout the world from a variety of focal and systemic infections of varying severity in persons that are apparently immunologically normal. Most commonly it causes acute diarrheal disease by producing an enterotoxin. Thus the organism appears to have greater clinical significance that was hitherto suspected. The organism has been infrequently reported from humans in Canada, but its correct laboratory identification, together with increased awareness that it can contribute to illness, will undoubtedly lead to more reports of its isolation in Canada.  相似文献

White-nose syndrome (WNS) is a new disease of bats that has devastated populations in eastern North America. Infection with the fungus, Geomyces destructans, is thought to increase the time bats spend out of torpor during hibernation, leading to starvation. Little is known about hibernation in healthy, free-ranging bats and more data are needed to help predict consequences of WNS. Trade-offs presumably exist between the energetic benefits and physiological/ecological costs of torpor, leading to the prediction that the relative importance of spring energy reserves should affect an individual''s use of torpor and depletion of energy reserves during winter. Myotis lucifugus mate during fall and winter but females do not become pregnant until after spring emergence. Thus, female reproductive success depends on spring fat reserves while male reproductive success does not. Consequently, females should be “thrifty” in their use of fat compared to males. We measured body condition index (BCI; mass/forearm length) of 432 M. lucifugus in Manitoba, Canada during the winter of 2009/2010. Bats were captured during the fall mating period (n = 200), early hibernation (n = 125), and late hibernation (n = 128). Adult females entered hibernation with greater fat reserves and consumed those reserves more slowly than adult males and young of the year. Consequently, adult females may be more likely than males or young of the year to survive the disruption of energy balance associated with WNS, although surviving females may not have sufficient reserves to support reproduction.  相似文献

The expected number of species occurring in different numbers of reserves of the same total area is examined on different assumptions of the spatial distribution and the probability of extinction. The advantage of one large reserve or several smaller ones of equal total area depends on the spatial distributions of species and the stage after the establishement of reserves. In general, several smaller reserves maintain more species immediately after the establishments unless the spatial distribution are uniform or random, whereas one large reserve excels several smaller ones after some rare species have gone extinct unless the spatial distributions are strongly contagious. Since the extinction of rare species must be facilitated as the size of each reserve reduces, the area of a reserve should be larger than the critical area that ensures the persistence of the species. Hence it is concluded that one or a few large reserves are a better strategy in order to maintain the species diversity.  相似文献

为揭示国家级自然保护区生态系统格局构成及变化状况,基于2000年和2010年319个国家级自然保护区生态系统类型与分布数据,根据生态系统类型转化及其转化幅度,考虑自然保护区各功能区的重要性,构建生态系统格局变化指数,分析国家级自然保护区生态系统格局动态变化。结果表明,国家级自然保护区草地生态系统面积最大,2000年和2010年分别占全国国家级自然保护区总面积的57.88%和57.74%,其次为荒漠生态系统,两期占比约17%,其他依次是湿地、森林、灌丛、农田、冰川/永久积雪、海洋、城镇等生态系统类型。2000-2010年,国家级自然保护区内森林、湿地面积明显增加,城镇有一定程度扩张,冰川/永久积雪略微减少。总体上,国家级自然保护区生态系统格局基本保持稳定,基本维持的保护区数量219个,占国家级自然保护区总数的68.65%,生态系统格局改善的保护区数量略多于退化的数量,10年来国家级自然保护区生态系统格局保护取得一定效果。国家级自然保护区生态系统格局在基本维持的基础上,表现出一定的地域不平衡性。生态系统改善的保护区多分布在秦岭、大巴山、大娄山、南岭一带,而东部省份、内蒙古高原、东北平原一带生态系统退化的保护区数量较多,主要是荒漠、内陆湿地和水域、野生动物、自然遗迹等类型自然保护区。最后,提出3点建议为提高国家级自然保护区管理水平提供参考。  相似文献

Little consideration has been given to the genetic composition of populations associated with marine reserves, as reserve designation is generally to protect specific species, communities or habitats. Nevertheless, it is important to conserve genetic diversity since it provides the raw material for the maintenance of species diversity over longer, evolutionary time-scales and may also confer the basis for adaptation to environmental change. Many current marine reserves are small in size and isolated to some degree (e.g. sea loughs and offshore islands). While such features enable easier management, they may have important implications for the genetic structure of protected populations, the ability of populations to recover from local catastrophes and the potential for marine reserves to act as sources of propagules for surrounding areas. Here, we present a case study demonstrating genetic differentiation, isolation, inbreeding and reduced genetic diversity in populations of the dogwhelk Nucella lapillus in Lough Hyne Marine Nature Reserve (an isolated sea lough in southern Ireland), compared with populations on the local adjacent open coast and populations in England, Wales and France. Our study demonstrates that this sea lough is isolated from open coast populations, and highlights that there may be long-term genetic consequences of selecting reserves on the basis of isolation and ease of protection.  相似文献

The optimal size of nature reserves has been debated for some time. Although edge and core habitats are often recognized, it is commonly assumed in theory and in studies of a particular habitat type that reserves or patches of different sizes have similar habitat structure. However, for older, highly fragmented landscapes it has been suggested that small areas are of conservation interest as high-quality remnants, whereas large areas are more degraded. We studied 49 randomly selected forest reserves in the size range 5–230 ha (typical for many highly fragmented landscapes) and 3653 sites of key habitat (unprotected deciduous broadleaf forest). Structures in forest that are generally correlated with value for biodiversity were measured, and reserve objectives were examined from declaration texts. Both the density of large trees and the density of dead wood (snags, logs) decreased with increasing reserve size. The mean size of identified key habitats was very small (1.6 ha). A botanical objective for establishment of reserves was more frequently used for smaller reserves. In contrast, cultural and especially recreational objectives were more commonly used when larger reserves were established, suggesting higher values for recreation in these reserves. For vascular plants, birds and beetles, a literature review indicated that small forest patches do not contain impoverished communities, but are often rich (per unit of area). Small reserves and key habitats have several disadvantages, but they are probably important components of reserve networks for biodiversity in highly fragmented landscapes.  相似文献

The data on the degree of overgrowth of the Rybinsk Reservoir and reserves of macrophytes biomass received in 2003 and 2009 are presented. It is shown that, in years with low water levels, vast areas of shallows with thickets of coastal aquatic plants dry up and, therefore, the degree of weediness of the reservoir and reserves of macrophyte biomass within it fall significantly. At a high water level, some of them are flooded, which leads to a significant increase in the degree of weediness of the reservoir. Each time it is higher than the previous peak, which testifies to the pulsating character of the overgrowths and to the general tendency toward a slower reduction of the reservoir area.  相似文献

Synopsis Seasonal cycles of reserve deposition and utilization in many fishes, amphibians and reptiles alleviate temporal mismatches of energy supply and demand. Utilization of reserves can be related to maintenance during periods of reduced food supply, to reproduction, particularly during periods of poor food availability, and to migration. Published data on the seasonal cycles of reserves and reproduction inSebastes suggest that reserves are important for maintenance during wintertime periods of low food availability. Unlike many other ectothermic vertebrates, some species ofSebastes deposit fat reserves at the same time as gametogenesis, a pattern consistent with the longevity and iteroparity evident in the genus. Other species ofSebastes have similar seasonal timing of fat cycles, but since reproduction takes place later in the year, the decline in reserves during winter coincides with the main period of reproductive activity. The significance of this is not clear. Interspecific differences in amounts of reserves may be related to geographical differences in the seasonality or abundance of food. Intraspecific variation in reserves, marked most strongly by allometry of reserves with regard to fish legth, bears further study, since it may link the proces of sexual maturation and the responses of repeat spawners to variability in food supply and other environmental factors.  相似文献

Recent studies have suggested that the size of avian clutches may be determined in part by the costs of egg production, which are thought to involve the depletion of endogenous nutrient reserves. I tested the hypothesis that producing extra eggs would deplete protein and lipid reserves in a passerine species, the European Starling Sturnus vulgaris . The first three eggs of clutches were removed on the days they were laid to induce females to lay extra eggs. Females responded to this manipulation by laying, on average, 1.3 eggs more than controls. However, based on the distribution of clutch sizes, it appears that some females responded to the removal of three eggs by producing more than one extra egg, whereas others responded by laying no extra eggs or by deserting. In unmanipulated females, the lean dry mass of the flight muscles and total body lipid were found to decline throughout breeding, an observation which is often interpreted as evidence that egg production depletes endogenous reserves. However, females experimentally induced to produce an extra egg did not have reduced stores of protein or lipid at clutch completion. No effect was observed in starlings even though this study had substantial (80%) power to detect a change in protein reserves of the same magnitude as that observed in a previous study of gulls. The decrease in flight muscle mass that has frequently been observed during breeding in passerines may not be due simply to mobilization of endogenous protein reserves.  相似文献

The optimal amount of reserves that a small bird should carry depends upon a number of factors, including the availability of food and environmental predation risk levels. Theory predicts that, if predation risk increases, then a bird should maintain a lower level of reserves. Previous experiments have given mixed results: some have shown reduced reserves and some, increased reserves. However, the birds in these studies may have been interpreting a staged predation event as a period when they were unable to feed rather than a change in predation risk: theory predicts that, if the food supply within the environment is variable, then reserves should be increased. In the present study, we presented blue tits (Parus caeruleus) with a potential predator and compared this response (which could have been potentially confounded by perceived interruption effects) with a response to an actual interruption in the environment during both long and short daytime lengths. During long (but not short) days, the birds responded in line with theoretical predictions by increasing their reserves in response to interruption and reducing them in response to predation. These results are examined in the light of other experimental manipulations and we discuss how well experimental tests have tested the predictions made by theoretical models.  相似文献

Networks of marine reserves are increasingly being promoted as a means of conserving marine biodiversity. One consideration in designing systems of marine reserves is the maintenance of connectivity to ensure the long-term persistence and resilience of populations. Knowledge of connectivity, however, is frequently lacking during marine reserve design and establishment. We characterise patterns of genetic connectivity of 3 key species of habitat-forming macroalgae across an established network of temperate marine reserves on the east coast of Australia and the implications for adaptive management and marine reserve design. Connectivity varied greatly among species. Connectivity was high for the subtidal macroalgae Ecklonia radiata and Phyllospora comosa and neither species showed any clear patterns of genetic structuring with geographic distance within or among marine parks. In contrast, connectivity was low for the intertidal, Hormosira banksii, and there was a strong pattern of isolation by distance. Coastal topography and latitude influenced small scale patterns of genetic structure. These results suggest that some species are well served by the current system of marine reserves in place along this temperate coast but it may be warranted to revisit protection of intertidal habitats to ensure the long-term persistence of important habitat-forming macroalgae. Adaptively managing marine reserve design to maintain connectivity may ensure the long-term persistence and resilience of marine habitats and the biodiversity they support.  相似文献

Habitat fragmentation is generally considered to be detrimental to the persistence of natural populations. In nature management, one therefore tends to prefer few large nature reserves over many small nature reserves having equal total area. This paper examines whether this preference is warranted in a metapopulation framework with circular reserves (patches) by formulating the dependence of metapopulation persistence on the size and number of reserves, both of which depend on reserve radius if the total area is kept constant. Two measures of metapopulation persistence are used: R(0), the number of patches colonized by an occupied patch during its lifetime as an occupied patch, and T(e), the expected time to extinction. These two measures are functions of the extinction and colonization rates of the metapopulation. Several mechanisms for the extinction and colonization processes are formulated from which the dependence of these rates on reserve radius is calculated. It turns out that T(e)generally increases with reserve radius for all mechanisms, which supports the preference of few large reserves. However, R(0)supports this preference only in the case of some special, rather unrealistic, mechanisms. In many other, more realistic, cases an intermediate reserve size exists for which metapopulation persistence measured by R(0)is optimal.  相似文献

Protected areas are valuable in conserving tropical biodiversity, but an insufficient understanding of species diversity and distributions makes it difficult to evaluate their effectiveness. This is especially true on Borneo, a species rich island shared by three countries, and is particularly concerning for bats, a poorly known component of mammal diversity that may be highly susceptible to landscape changes. We reviewed the diversity, distributions and conservation status of 54 bat species to determine the representation of these taxa in Borneo’s protected areas, and whether these reserves complement each other in terms of bat diversity. Lower and upper bound estimates of bat species composition were characterised in 23 protected areas and the proposed boundaries of the Heart of Borneo conservation area. We used lower and upper bound estimates of species composition. By using actual inventories, species representation was highly irregular, and even if some reserves were included in the Heart of Borneo, the protected area network would still exhibit low complementarity. By inferring species presence from distributions, composition between most reserves was similar, and complementarity was much higher. Predicting species richness using abundance information suggested that bat species representation in reserves may lie between these two extremes. We recommend that researchers better sample biodiversity over the island and address the conservation threats faced in Borneo both within and outside protected areas. While the Heart of Borneo Initiative is commendable, it should not divert attention from other conservation areas.  相似文献

The ovary of Lithobius forficatus always contains some degenerating oocytes. The cytologic evolution during the oocyte degenerescence is described. Cytoplasmic lysis takes place before nuclear lysis and the vitellinic reserves resist the longest. The degenerates coming from previtellogenetic or poorly vitellogenetic cells are essentially recovered by the follicular cells. If large vitellogenetic or mature oocytes are affected, their vitellinic reserves are released into the ovarian cavity and included in the cells of the ovarian epithelium. The number of degenerating oocytes is in relation with the external conditions; it reaches a maximum at the end of the spring.
