Cucurbitacins are feeding stimulants for corn rootworm used in baits to control the adults of this insect pest. Corn rootworm larvae also feed compulsively on cucurbitacins. Cucurbitacins are reported to be gibberellin antagonists that may preclude their use as seed treatments for these soil-dwelling insects. The crude extract of a bitter Hawkesbury watermelon containing cucurbitacin E-glycoside significantly inhibited germination of watermelon, squash, and tomato seeds. Although the germination of corn seed was not significantly inhibited, root elongation was inhibited by crude extracts, but not by high-performance liquid chromatography-purified cucurbitacin E-glycoside. Therefore, the effects of the major components in the bitter watermelon extract (e.g., sugars) on seed germination and root elongation were determined. Pure sugars (glucose and fructose), at concentrations found in watermelon extract, mimicked the inhibition of seed germination and root elongation seen with the crude bitter Hawkesbury watermelon extract. Removal of these sugars may be necessary to use this extract as a bait for corn rootworm larvae as a seed or root treatment.  相似文献

Choice tests were conducted to determine relative degree of specialization of feeding behavior of 11 Mexican diabroticite species in the genera Acalymma and Diabrotica (Chrysomelidae: Luperini). Adult beetles were offered a choice between cotyledons of a non-bitter (not containing cucurbitacin) cucurbit (C. pepo L. var. Crookneck), corn (Zea mays L.), and beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). In a second assay a bitter (containing cucurbitacin) cucurbit (C. pepo L. var. Ambassador) was added to the array of plants offered. Neonates of two species of Acalymma and one species of Diabrotica were offered a choice between roots of a non-bitter and a bitter cucurbit, and between a bitter cucurbit and corn.Adult insects showed distinct preferences in the first assay. All Acalymma spp. tested accepted only the non-bitter cucurbit as host, whereas Diabrotica spp. preferred either the cucurbit or the noncucurbit hosts. When the bitter cucurbit was offered together with the other three hosts, all species changed their host choice and significantly preferred the bitter cucurbit. Neonates of all three species tested significantly preferred the bitter cucurbit roots over the non-bitter roots, and the corn roots over the bitter cucurbit. The observation that all Mexican diabroticite species tested left suitable hosts when bitter cucurbits were offered in a choice situation supported the hypothesis that the association between diabroticites and Cucurbitaceae is mediated by plant chemical compounds. For both, the Acalymma spp., which were found to be cucurbit specialists, as well as for the polyphagous Diabrotica spp., cucurbitacin B acted as a strong feeding arrestant which implies that the chemical mediation of this interaction might be an evolutionary conservative trait within the tribe.  相似文献

Abstract 1 The effects of pheromone dose, trap size and trap design on the capture of male Matsucoccus feytaudi were studied in maritime pine forests of Portugal, France and Italy, and Matsucoccus josephi in Aleppo pine stands of Israel. 2 Males of both species respond to racemic mixtures of the respective sex pheromone at a dosage as low as 25 µg. However, for low population densities of M. feytaudi, a 50 µg dosage was needed to guarantee male catches significantly different from the control trap. 3 Male capture increased with increasing dosage up to a threshold level for both species. Overdose repellence was not observed even with baits containing 1600 and 2200 µg of the pheromone of M. josephi and M. feytaudi, respectively. 4 For M. feytaudi, a higher dose–response was observed at medium population densities, whereas lesser captures were registered at low and high population densities, suggesting female competition in the latter case. 5 Catches of M. feytaudi males were not affected by trap design, whereas M. josephi males were caught in significantly greater numbers in delta traps. Large traps caught significantly more males of both species. 6 The relative higher male catches in the marginal zone of the sticky traps is probably related to males landing behaviour in the vicinity of the pheromone source. 7 The shape and size of the trap did not affect the bias of the estimates of male catches. However, the plate traps provided higher precision. Both bias and precision improved with increasing dose.  相似文献

Monosporascus cannonballus is an important cucurbit root pathogen, which has been reported in the main production areas of melon and watermelon in Brazil and worldwide and potentially capable to colonize roots of different species. Crop rotation is considered an effective management strategy to prevent this disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the response of different crops, pumpkin, cotton, cowpea, sesame, watermelon, melon, corn, cucumber, sorghum and tomato, to the infection of this pathogen. Seedlings were transplanted into plastic containers with an inoculum concentration of 20 colony‐forming units (CFU) g?1 of M. cannonballus. Fifty days after transplanting, the variables analysed were the degree of disease severity on the root system and the frequency of reisolation. On cucurbits, the results demonstrated different degrees of susceptibility among crops and cultivars, being melon and watermelon the most sensitive species. In contrast, Cucurbita cultivars were the most tolerant. Regarding non‐cucurbit crops, maize, sorghum and tomato presented root discoloration and M. cannonballus was reisolated from roots. Cotton, cowpea and sesame cultivars were not affected by the pathogen, so they can be considered as alternative crops to be cultivated, or in rotation with cucurbits, in M. cannonballus infested soils.  相似文献

To study the phototactic responses of white‐backed planthopper, Sogatella furcifera (Horváth) and brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål) to different wavelengths, four colours of light traps (blue, green, yellow and red light‐emitting diodes) were placed in the same rice field along with a traditional black light trap. This study revealed that S. furcifera and N. lugens are more attracted to blue and green lights than that to yellow and red lights. During the 24 nights, compared with the black light trap, the blue LED trap could catch more rice planthoppers at 17 nights. Furthermore, catches of other species (moths and beetles) were substantially reduced in blue LED light traps. Multiple regression models were developed to assess the effect of weather factors on light trap catches of rice planthoppers. Rainfall and mean air temperature at a night mainly affected light trap catches of S. furcifera. Higher rainfall and lower temperature increased light trap catches of S. furcifera. However, wind speed was the main factor affecting the catches of N. lugens, and the lower incidence of catches was found in the night when wind speed exceeded 3.08 m/s. S. furcifera may be flying against wind at light wind nights by 0.3–1.5 m/s, whereas N. lugens may be flying down at strong wind nights by 1.5–3.08 m/s. Relative humidity did not significantly influence on trap catches. Consequently, light wavelengths, precipitation, average temperature and wind should be considered when monitoring rice planthoppers by light traps. Therefore, the blue LED light traps are worth using for monitoring planthoppers.  相似文献

1 Numerous studies have explored the role of semiochemicals in the behaviour of bark beetles (Scolytidae). 2 Multiple‐funnel traps are often used to elucidate these behavioural responses. Sufficient sample sizes are obtained by using large numbers of traps to which treatments are randomly assigned once, or by frequent collection of trap catches and subsequent re‐randomization of treatments. 3 Recently, there has been some debate about the potential for trap contamination to occur when semiochemical treatments (baits), and not trap‐treatment units (traps and baits), are re‐randomized among existing traps. Due to the volatility of many semiochemicals, small levels of contamination could potentially confound results. 4 A literature survey was conducted to determine the frequency of re‐randomizing semiochemical treatments (baits) vs. trap‐treatment units (traps and baits) in scolytid trapping bioassays. An experiment was then conducted to determine whether differences in the response of Dendroctonus brevicomis LeConte to attractant‐baited traps exist between the two methods. 5 The majority of papers examined reported use of a large number of fixed replicates (traps) rather than re‐randomization of treatments at frequent intervals. Seventy‐five percent of papers for which re‐randomization methods could be determined reported relocation of semiochemical treatments (baits) only. 6 No significant differences in trap catch were observed among multiple‐funnel traps aged with D. brevcomis baits (Phero Tech Inc., Canada) for 0, 30 and 90 days, suggesting that contamination did not influence the results. 7 It is concluded that re‐randomizing baits is a viable cost‐effective option to re‐randomizing trap and bait units.  相似文献

1 Monitoring studies of pine sawflies with pheromone traps were performed for the first time in Germany. Pheromone traps baited with species‐specific pheromone substances were installed in pine forests at different locations in Bavaria, Brandenburg and Lower Saxony during two years. 2 It was possible to track the flight phenology of Diprion pini, Gilpinia pallida and Neodiprion sertifer reliably and to get information about the number of generations of these species in 1997 and 1998. 3 A clear relationship between trap catch and population density could not be detected, but qualitative changes in trap catch caused by different density levels were observed. 4 For D. pini, trap catches were different among endemic populations of different forest types. Furthermore, catches of males reflected the results from the regular cocoon collections by foresters during the previous winter. 5 For N. sertifer, trap catches in endemic populations were well separated from trap catches on sites with higher sawfly densities. However, no significant correlation between trap catch and sawfly density or defoliation level could be found. These results suggest that the efficacy of the pheromone traps probably varied with biological features (sex ratio, density level, immigration) of the particular population.  相似文献

Meat ants (Iridomyrmex purpureus and allies) are perceived to be dominant members of Australian ant communities because of their great abundance, high rates of activity, and extreme aggressiveness. Here we describe the first experimental test of their influence on other ant species, and one of the first experimental studies of the influence of a dominant species on any diverse ant community. The study was conducted at a 0.4 ha savanna woodland site in the seasonal tropics of northern Australia, where the northern meat ant (I. sanguineus) represented 41% of pitfall catches and 73% of all ants at tuna baits, despite a total of 74 species being recorded. Meat ants were fenced out of experimental plots in order to test their influence on the foraging success of other species, as measured by access to tuna baits. The numbers of all other ants and ant species at baits in exclusion plots were approximately double those in controls (controlling for both the fences and for meat ant abundance), and returned rapidly to control levels when fences were removed after 7 weeks. Individual species differend markedly in their response to the fencing treatment, with species of Camponotus and Monomorium showing the strongest responses. Fencing had no effect on pitfall catches of species other than the meat ant, indicating that the effect of meat ants at baits was directly due to interference with foraging workers, and not regulation of general forager abundance. Such interference by meat ants has important implications for the sizes and densities of colonies of other ant species, and ultimately on overall ant community structure.  相似文献

We investigated whether spruce seed moth, Cydia strobilella L. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae, Grapholitini), one of the most damaging seed predators on Norway spruce, Picea abies (L.) H. Karst (Pinaceae), uses olfactory cues during host search. Analyses with coupled gas chromatography and electroantennography revealed that antennae of both sexes of moths responded consistently to three compounds in the headspace from female spruce flowers, i.e., α‐pinene, β‐pinene, and myrcene, but not to limonene as has been previously reported for this species. The amounts of these active volatiles released from flowers and cones of P. abies were quantified, and their diurnal and seasonal variation was monitored. The total release of the active volatiles correlated well with the diurnal and seasonal flight activity of C. strobilella as revealed by catches of males in pheromone‐baited traps. In field trapping experiments, where baits were loaded with proportions and enantiomeric ratios of α‐pinene, β‐pinene, and myrcene matching those of the female P. abies floral headspace, substantial catches of male C. strobilella were achieved, whereas few females were captured. These surprising results suggest that male C. strobilella make use of host volatiles to aid them in their search for females.  相似文献

Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-cucumerinum (Forc) causes severe root rot and wilt in several cucurbit species, including cucumber, melon, and watermelon. Previously, a pathogenicity chromosome, chrRC, was identified in Forc. Strains that were previously nonpathogenic could infect multiple cucurbit species after obtaining this chromosome via horizontal chromosome transfer (HCT). In contrast, F. oxysporum f. sp. melonis (Fom) can only cause disease on melon plants, even though Fom contains contigs that are largely syntenic with chrRC. The aim of this study was to identify the genetic basis underlying the difference in host range between Fom and Forc. First, colonization of different cucurbit species between Forc and Fom strains showed that although Fom did not reach the upper part of cucumber or watermelon plants, it did enter the root xylem. Second, to select candidate genomic regions associated with differences in host range, high-quality genome assemblies of Fom001, Fom005, and Forc016 were compared. One of the Fom contigs that is largely syntenic and highly similar in sequence to chrRC contains the effector gene SIX6. After HCT of the SIX6-containing chromosome from Fom strains to a nonpathogenic strain, the recipient (HCT) strains caused disease on melon plants, but not on cucumber or watermelon plants. These results provide strong evidence that the differences in host range between Fom and Forc are caused by differences between transferred chromosomes of Fom and chrRC, thus narrowing down the search for genes allowing or preventing infection of cucumber and watermelon to genes located on these chromosomes.  相似文献

Octenol (1-octen-3-ol), acetone, 4-methylphenol, 3-n-propylphenol, and other potential attractants (human urine, stable fly faeces), as well as guiacol, creosol (potential repellents), were tested as baits for biting flies in North America using standard phthalogen blue IF3GM cotton Nzi traps, or similar commercial polyester traps. Baits were tested during the summers of 2001-04 at a residence in Canada and during January-August 2001 at a dairy in the U.S.A. Behaviour in the presence of octenol was also studied by intercepting flies approaching a trap through the use of transparent adhesive film. Analogous bait and/or trap comparisons were conducted in natural settings in June 1996 in Kenya and in September-December 1997 in Ethiopia. In Canada, catches of five of six common tabanids (Tabanus similis Macquart, Tabanus quinquevittatus Wiedemann, Hybomitra lasiophthalma [Macquart], Chrysops univittatus Macquart, Chrysops aberrans Philip) and the stable fly Stomoxys calcitrans L. were increased significantly by 1.2-2.1 times with octenol (1.5 mg/h). Catches of T. quinquevittatus and S. calcitrans were 3.5-3.6 times higher on a sticky enclosure surrounding a trap baited with octenol. No other baits or bait combinations had an effect on trap catches in North America. In Ethiopia, standard Nzi traps baited with a combination of acetone, octenol and cattle urine caught 1.8-9.9 times as many Stomoxys as similarly baited epsilon, pyramidal, NG2G, S3, biconical and canopy traps, in order of decreasing catch. When baits were compared, catches in Nzi traps of six stable fly species, including S. calcitrans, were not affected by octenol (released at approximately 1 mg/h), or cattle urine (140 mg/h), used alone or in combination with acetone (890 mg/h). Acetone alone, however, significantly increased the catches of common Stomoxys such as Stomoxys niger niger Macquart, Stomoxys taeniatus Bigot, and S. calcitrans by 2.4, 1.6 and 1.9 times, respectively. Catches of Glossina pallidipes Austen were increased significantly in traps baited with acetone, urine or octenol, or any combination, relative to those in unbaited traps (1.4-3.6x). Catches of Glossina morsitans submorsitans Newstead were increased significantly by 1.5-1.7 times, but only when baits were used individually. Unlike other studies with East African tsetse, catches of both tsetse species with the complete bait combination (acetone, urine and octenol) did not differ from those in unbaited traps. Experiments with an incomplete ring of electric nets surrounding a Nzi trap, and a new approach using a sticky enclosure made from transparent adhesive film, revealed diverse responses to artificial objects and baits among biting flies. In Kenya, daily trap efficiency estimates for traps baited with either carbon dioxide (6 L/min) or a combination of acetone, cattle urine and octenol were 21-27% for G. pallidipes, 7-36% for Glossina longipennis Corti, 27-33% for S. n. niger, and 19-33% for Stomoxys niger bilineatus Grünberg, assuming 100% electrocution efficiency. Actual trap efficiencies may have been lower, given observed outside : inside electric net catch ratios of 0.6 : 1.6. Observed ratios averaged 54% of expected values, with 10 of 15 possible ratios less than the minimum possible value of 1.0.  相似文献

Catches in pitfall traps in relation to mean densities of carabid beetles   总被引:19,自引:0,他引:19
M. A. Baars 《Oecologia》1979,41(1):25-46
Summary Based on continuous pitfall catches summed over the whole activity period for the carabid beetles Pterostichus versicolor Sturm and Calathus melanocephalus L., a satisfactorily linear relationship is presented between the mean densities in several habitats and in different years and the numbers of beetles trapped. This means that with the help of continuous pitfall sampling a reliable relative measure of the sizes of carabid populations can be obtained.Simulation experiments show that for individuals of P. versicolor the distances covered each day should be represented by strips of some width instead of by lines to obtain numbers trapped that equal the field data. The influence on numbers trapped of the high mobility of beetles in unfavorable habitats is probably not significant. Simulation experiments with C. melanocephalus indicate that a much lower capture efficiency than for P. versicolor has to be programmed to fit the simulation results with the field data. The catch from different types of pitfalls is not always proportional to trap perimeter due to different vegetation cover of the immediate trap surroundings and to different kinds of roofs placed over the pitfalls. For the same species the capture efficiency of a pitfall can also change throughout the season.Simulation experiments show that the number and shape of the pitfalls need not influence the catches, provided that the traps keep the same total perimeter and are broadly spaced.Remodelling of some data from the literature reveals that the linear relationship between mean densities and year-catches in pitfalls is probably a general one among carabid species. This leads to the hypothesis that carabid beetles have to work through a fixed reproductive program each year by means of an almost constant total amount of locomotory activity which is realized step by step during spells of suitable weather. Some recommendations are given for intraspecific and interspecific comparisons of pitfall catches between sites and years.Communication no. 196 of the Biological Station of the Agricultural University (Wageningen), Wijster (Drenthe), The Netherlands  相似文献

Host seeking by the malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae Giles sensu stricto (Diptera: Culicidae) is mainly guided by volatile chemicals present in human odours. The skin microbiota plays an important role in the production of these volatiles, and skin bacteria grown on agar plates attract An. gambiae s.s. in the laboratory. In this study, the attractiveness of volatiles produced by human skin bacteria to An. gambiae s.s. was tested in laboratory, semi‐field, and field experiments to assess these effects in increasing environmental complexity. A synthetic blend of 10 compounds identified in the headspace of skin bacteria was also tested for its attractiveness. Carbon dioxide significantly increased mosquito catches of traps baited with microbial volatiles in the semi‐field experiments and was therefore added to the field traps. Traps baited with skin bacteria caught significantly more An. gambiae s.s. than control traps, both in the laboratory and semi‐field experiments. Traps baited with the synthetic blend caught more mosquitoes than control traps in the laboratory experiments, but not in the semi‐field experiments. Although bacterial volatiles increased mosquito catches in the field study, trapping several mosquito vector species, these effects were not significant for An. gambiae s.l. It is concluded that volatiles from skin bacteria affect mosquito behaviour under laboratory and semi‐field conditions and, after fine tuning, have the potential to be developed as odour baits for mosquitoes.  相似文献

Urine volatiles from different ungulates (cows, horses and sheep) were tested as bait for tabanids in southeastern France using Nzi traps during the early summer of 2011. Tabanus bromius Linnaeus, 1758 and Atylotus quadrifarius (Loew, 1874) (both: Diptera: Tabanidae) were the most captured species, respectively representing 57% and 41% of all tabanids collected (all of which were female). Horse urine significantly increased catches of T. bromius (1.6‐fold) and A. quadrifarius (3.5‐fold), and sheep urine significantly increased catches of A. quadrifarius (2.5‐fold). In parallel, an electroantennogram (EAG) study was conducted for the first time on these two species, in which EAGs were recorded using 1‐octen‐3‐ol and extracts of the same urine samples used in the field. For T. bromius, the EAG response to 1‐octen‐3‐ol increased quasi‐sigmoidally with dose, with a maximum response at ≥100 µg on filter paper. For both species of tabanid, cow and horse urine elicited larger EAGs than did sheep urine. The behavioural implications in host‐seeking and feeding habits are discussed.  相似文献

  • 1 Heath and Rothamsted light traps and a Johnson-Taylor suction trap were used to sample flying insects on Aldabra Atoll.
  • 2 The present study extended over two wet seasons. The pattern of relative monthly insect activity resembled the rainfall pattern. Catches were greatest during the months when there was a sudden marked increase in precipitation.
  • 3 Lepidoptera dominated light trap catches and Diptera suction trap catches, the total monthly insect numbers therefore reflecting the abundance of these two orders. Hemiptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera were also common.
  • 4 Predominant families were represented by only a few or even only one dominant species. These species were present throughout the study period although their monthly totals varied considerably, different species dominating the catches during different months.
  • 5 The composition and size of catches in the three light traps was affected by the type of light source and surrounding vegetation.
  • 6 A comprehensive list of families and selected common species is given with their relative monthly abundance in the light traps.
  • 7 Suction trap catches were segregated on an hourly basis to give a broad indication of insect flight periodicity.

The effects of five differently-colored sticky traps in capturing adult Diaphorina citri were evaluated in citrus orchards. Trap catches of D. citri were monitored fortnightly on blue, green, red, white and yellow sticky cards placed on three citrus varieties during D. citri active flight period from April to July in south Texas. Evaluation of mean trap catches of each color by repeated measures analysis of variance produced three separate groups: yellow traps caught significantly more D. citri adults than the other four traps; red and green traps caught significantly more D. citri than blue and white traps, which were not significantly different. Although the number of adult psyllid captured on all trap types significantly increased with time during the trapping period, the performance of traps did not change with time. Trap catches were also significantly influenced by the citrus species; traps placed on lemon trees captured more D. citri than those placed on sweet orange and grapefruit, suggesting that plant preference exhibited by D. citri may influence the performance of traps. The ratio of trap reflectance between the 680 to 700 nm and the 450 nm was significantly correlated with total trap catches in all host species studied. Thus, this index was a good indicator of the attractiveness of adult D. citri to colored traps. Additionally, we compared the reflectance values of young versus mature flush shoots of the three host plants used in this study as related to densities of D. citri recorded in colored traps. We discussed the importance of visual cues in the host finding behavior of adult D. citri.  相似文献

Two candidate attractants, phenol and 1,4-benzoquinone, a synthetic mixture of typical compounds from green-leaf odours [(Z)-3-hexenyl acetate: (Z)-3-hexen-1-ol: benzaldehyde: (E)-2-hexen-1-ol: 1-hexanol; 100:20:10:1:1] and freshly damaged oak leaves were screened for field attractancy in funnel traps in Hungary. Males of two Rhizotrogus spp. (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Melolonthinae), R. aestivus 01. and R. vernus Germ. were caught in larger numbers. While R. aestivus catches were probably chance captures, male R. vernus was significantly attracted to the baits containing 1,4-benzoquinone. This compound represents a promising basis for the development of a monitoring trap for R. vernus.  相似文献

Recent introduction of Synanthedon myopaeformis (Borkhausen) (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae) into organic apple‐growing areas of Canada has stimulated research on semiochemical‐based management of this European pest. Replicated, small‐plot (0.16 ha) experiments were conducted to compare sex pheromone, 3Z,13Z‐octadecadienyl acetate (10 mg), Concord grape juice (300 ml), or their combination, as mass‐trapping lures at trap densities equivalent to 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 traps ha?1. Total numbers of male and female moths removed from test plots increased significantly with trap density in all juice‐based mass‐trapping experiments. In pheromone mass‐trapping experiments, however, total catches of males did not increase significantly as trap densities were increased and catches appeared to plateau with 25–50 traps ha?1. With pheromone‐based mass‐trapping, significantly fewer males were caught in pheromone‐baited assessment traps at the centre of each mass‐trapping plot than in identical traps in untreated plots. This reduction is indicative of significant trap interference or trap ‘shut‐down’. Increasing the density of juice‐based mass‐trapping had no effect on catches of male or female moths in juice‐baited assessment traps, indicating a short range of attraction and lack of interference between juice traps. Pheromone‐ and juice‐based mass trapping removed similar numbers of males at each trap density tested, respectively, but summed catches of males and females were greatest with juice baits. Combining pheromone and juice into a single mass‐trapping treatment (50 traps ha?1) did not significantly increase catches of males or females relative to either treatment alone. If a practical bisexual mass‐trapping system is going to be developed for S. myopaeformis, then identification of volatile kairomones in Concord grape juice may be useful.  相似文献

Overwintered adult apple blossom weevils, Anthonomus pomorum (L.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), colonise apple trees, Malus domestica Borkh. (Rosaceae), in early spring. Information gained from a suitable monitoring technique could serve as a guide to determining the accurate timing for control measures. To assess tree colonisation by flight and crawling, Plexiglas flight traps and commercial screen traps developed for different curculionid species were used. Refuges were mimicked by a newly designed shelter trap based on transparent bubble wrap. The trap catches were contrasted to the limb jarring technique. Microclimate and weather conditions were determined over a trial period of one and a half months. The shelter traps caught a high number of weevils irrespective of weather conditions, and thus performed better than both flight and screen traps. The temperature level within the shelter traps was slightly, but significantly, higher than on the trunk, indicating that weevils exploit microclimatic differences and occupy thermally favourable refuges. The seasonal culmination of colonisation as determined by shelter traps coincided with that as determined by the two methods used to monitor weevil movement towards host trees (flight traps and screen traps). The data indicated that not only flight, but also crawling as quantified by the screen traps contributes substantially to spring colonisation. Captures by all three types of traps over the spring season were significantly positively correlated with each other, but in most respects not with the results of the limb jarring. We conclude that the newly designed shelter trap will be useful for accurately monitoring the seasonal course of colonisation and holds promise for determining the timing of interventions.  相似文献
