This study explores the association between individual beliefs in local Islamic Saints in the High Atlas of Morocco and the use of the environment. This exploration is done within the framework of a traditional institution of natural resource management, based on the regulations (called Agdal) of access to common pastoral resources. Research methods included participant observation and interviews during several stays between 2003 and 2008 among the Amazig (Berber) people of the Mesioua tribe, and a survey of 80 households in the village of Warzazt. Our data show an association between the transformation of traditional individual beliefs in local Saints and new agro-pastoral practices that have previously been linked to the disappearance of Agdal-managed pastures and biodiversity loss. We conclude that, in addition to the more material dimensions of climate change, population increase, migration, or expansion of cash economies, religious beliefs should also be taken into account when analyzing the use of natural resources and agro-pastoral change processes. 相似文献

Summary Liassic sponge mounds of the central High Atlas (Rich area, northern Morocco) have a stratigraphic range from the Lower/Upper
Sinemurian boundary interval up to the lower parts of the Lower Pliensbachian (Carixian). The base of Liassic sponge mounds
consists of a transgressive discontinuity, i.e., a condensed section of microbioclastic wackestones with firm- and hardgrounds,
ferruginous stromatolites, sponge spicules and ammonites. The top of Liassic sponge mounds is an irregular palaeorelief covered
by cherty marl-limestone rhythmites, namely hemipelagic spicular wackestones with radiolaria.
In the Rich area, section Foum Tillicht, the sponge mound succession has a total thickness of about 250 meters. Within this
succession we distinguished between three mound intervals. The lower mound interval shows only small, meter-scale sponge mounds
consisting of boundstones with lyssakine sponges, commensalicTerebella and the problematicumRadiomura. This interval forms a shallowing-upward sequence culminating in a bedded facies withTubiphytes, calcareous algae (Palaeodasycladus), sponge lithoclasts, coated grains, and thin rims of marine cement. The middle mound interval is aggradational with decametric
mounds and distinct thrombolitic textures and reefal cavities. The mound assemblage here consists of hexactinellid sponges,
lithistid demosponges, non-rigid demosponges,Radiomura, Serpula (Dorsoserpula), Terebella, encrusting bryozoa, and minor contributions by calcareous sponges, and excavating sponges (typeAka). Thrombolites are dendrolitic and may reach sizes of several tens of centimeters, similar to the maximum size of siliceous
sponges. The upper mound interval appears retrogradational and geometries change upsection from mound shapes to flat lenses
and level-bottom, biostromal sponge banks. The biotic assemblage is similar to that of the middle mound interval and there
is no difference between mound and bank communities. The demise of sponge mounds is successive from regional spread in the
Sinemurian to more localised spots in the Lower Pliensbachian. This reduction correlates with an increasing influence of pelagic
conditions.
At Foum Tillicht, sponge mounds lack any photic contribution and there is virtually no differentiation into subcommunities
between mound surface and cavity dwelling organisms. There is some evidence that the heterotrophic food web of mound communities
was sourced by oxygen minimum zone edge effects, namely microbial recycling of essential elements such as N and P. Basin geometry
suggests a waterdepth of several 100's of meters, well below the photic zone and possibly only controlled by the depth range
of the oxygen minimum zone. Palaeoceanographic conditions of well-stratified deeper water masses diminished gradually during
widespread transgression across the Sinemurian to Pliensbachian boundary culminating in the Lower Pliensbachianibex ammonite zone. 相似文献

- 1 Lac ?Ifni (surface area 30 ha, zmax 60 m, altitude 2300 m) lies in a catchment comprised of Precambrian igneous rocks in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Previously described as a typical ohgotrophic lake, it was also reported to have a warm layer at the base of the hypolimnion which was ascribed to phreatic water supply and drainage.
- 2 Visits to the lake made in May/June and September 1990 showed strong thermal stratification but no hypolimnial warm layer. Drainage from the lake is subterranean, through a natural rubble dam, and the water level dropped by at least 7m through the summer. The flushing rate is about 0.6 year?1.
- 3 The upper part of the metalimnion and the lower epilimnion were strongly supersaturated with oxygen in June, and there was a pH gradient from 7 to 10.5 between the hypolimnion and the epilimnion. These features were less marked in September when planktonic gross primary productivity was estimated to be about 145mgCm?2 h?1. In September the hypolimnion was 38% saturated with oxygen; the areal hypolimnetic oxygen deficit between June and September was 0.073mg O2 cm?2 day?1. Total dissolved phosphate concentrations were 7–14 μgl?1.
- 4 The open water faunal assemblage consisted of Brachionus calyciflorus and Filinia lotigiseta (Rotifera), Cyclops abyssorum (Copepoda), and stunted Salmo trutta (Pisces). Trout diets were comprised principally of adult copepods and copepodites, which showed diurnal vertical migration, and of algal material apparently scraped from rock surfaces. The dry biomass density of Cyclops was at least 2gm?2 in June and at least 4.1 gm ?2 in September.
- 5 Tubifex tubifex (Oligochaeta) dominated the benthos below depths of 40m. Mean dry biomass density was 2.8gm?2, but ranged from 0.6–8.1 gm?2 between samples. About 50% of the lake bottom is below 40m depth.
- 6 The persistent oxygen supersaruration of the euphoric zone, the field estimate of primary productivity, the hypolimnetic oxygen deficit, the biomass of zooplankton and the benthic biomass together indicate that Lac ?Ifni is an unusually productive mountain lake. This high level of productivity may be sustained by nutrient addition through contamination by dust originating outside the catchment, aided by efficient nutrient recycling in the euphoric zone.

Snow algae (Chlorophyta) are reported from the Sierra Nevada mountains in southern Spain and the High Atlas mountains of Morocco. Populations of the snow algae Chlamydomonas sp., coloring the snow orange-red, were collected from Pico de Veleta, Spain, while snow samples from Mt. Neltner in the High Atlas mountains, contained resting spores of an orange-green colored Chloromonas sp. Other microbes observed in snow samples include bacteria, fungi, heterotrophic euglenids, diatoms, nematodes, and heterotrophic mastigotes (flagellated protists). This is the first report of snow algae from the Sierra Nevada mountains of Spain and from the Afro-alpine environment. 相似文献

This study focuses on knowledge of medicinal plants among the Caiçaras (rural inhabitants of the Atlantic Forest coast, Brazil). In particular, we examine the use of medicinal plants according to sex and age to reveal general patterns of Caiçara knowledge and use of plant resources. Data collected through 449 interviews at 12 Caiçara communities (Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo coastal sites) include citations of 249 plants and identification of 227 species. We show the importance of introduced as opposed to native plants and of key individuals for the conservation of the Caiçaras-Atlantic Forest. 相似文献

Late Triassic Tetrapod-Dominated Ichnoassemblages from the Argana Basin (Western High Atlas,Morocco)

Diverse tetrapod track assemblages with Scoyenia invertebrate traces were discovered in the Triassic Timezgadiouine and Bigoudine formations of the Argana Basin (Western High Atlas, Morocco). The ichnofossils occur in alluvial plain sandstones and mudstones of the Irohalène Member (T5) and Tadart Ouadou Member (T6) considered Carnian-Norian in age by vertebrate remains and palynomorphs. Tetrapod footprints are assigned to Apatopus, Atreipus-Grallator, Eubrontes isp., Parachirotherium, cf. Parachirotherium postchirotherioides, Rhynchosauroides ispp., and Synaptichnium isp. They can be referred to lepidosauromorph/ archosauromorph, basal archosaur, and dinosauromorph trackmakers. Apatopus, represented by 11 tracks of a more than 4 m long trackway, is recorded for the first time outside of North America and Europe. The assemblage concurs with the proposed Late Triassic age of the track-bearing beds by the occurrence of Apatopus, Atreipus-Grallator, and Eubrontes. If this is accepted, the stratigraphic range of Synaptichnium and Parachirotherium, hitherto known only from Early or Middle Triassic deposits, has to be extended to the Carnian-Norian. The occurrence of Eubrontes in the Irohalene Member (T5) provides further evidence for large theropods in pre-Jurassic strata. All assemblages are referred to the Scoyenia ichnofacies indicating continental environments with alternating wet and dry conditions. 相似文献

An assemblage of abundant and well-preserved tetrapod footprints has been discovered in the Tanamert Member (T3) of the Triassic Timezgadiouine Formation (Argana basin, western High Atlas, Morocco). It is the first fossil record from T3. Surfaces from different localities show a uniform tetrapod ichnofauna that consists of chirotherian and small lacertoid forms. The chirotherians are assigned to the plexus Protochirotherium—Synaptichnium, their trackmakers interpreted as basal archosaurs. The lacertoid imprints show close affinities with Rhynchosauroides and may reflect archosauromorphs or lepidosauromorphs. Protochirotherium—Synaptichnium assemblages are characteristic of the Early Triassic and were known previously only from units of this age in central Europe. Biostratigraphically, the European record implies a wide-spread pre-Anisian Protochirotherium—Synaptichnium dominated assemblage preceding the first appearance of Chirotherium barthii near the Olenekian-Anisian boundary. The stratigraphic position of T3 between Late Permian (uppermost T2) and Middle Triassic (T4) and the European correlatives suggest an Early Triassic age of this unit. It is the first record of Early Triassic continental deposits in Morocco. The surfaces from T3 open up perspectives for further contributions to ecology, biogeography and locomotion of early archosaurs. Furthermore, excellent outcrops and quality of footprint preservation in the Argana basin offer a potential for clarification of ichnotaxonomic and biostratigraphic issues. 相似文献

This study describes the dispersal traits and dispersal patterns of 51 perennial plant species belonging to 19 families in an oro-Mediterranean thorn cushion plant formation on the High Atlas, Morocco. Diaspore type, mass, number, antitelechoric mechanisms and dispersal time were studied with respect to growth forms, dispersal modes and spatial dispersal. Species spanned 105 range of diaspore mass, which coincided with those found in other high mountain regions. Diaspore mass was significantly higher in trees and shrubs than in semi-shrubs and perennial herbs. Barochorous and zoochorous species are more likely to have heavy diaspores, whereas anemochorous and ballistic species have a medium diaspore mass and semachorous and ombro-hydrochorous species have low diaspore mass. Diaspore number was significantly higher in trees and shrubs than in semi-shrubs and perennial herbs. The barochorous, ombro-hydrochorous and zoochorous species tended to produce higher diaspore numbers than species with other dispersal modes. Bradyspory was well-developed by trees and large shrubs dispersed by biotic vectors. Synaptospermy was represented by its long dispersal component. Myxospermy was significantly associated with semi-shrubs and perennial herbs with restricted spatial dispersal. It seems that ombro-hydrochory combined with myxospermy and a high number of light seeds is an efficient mechanism that ensures successful establishment of the most typical and endemic thorn cushion plant species, such as Alyssum, Vella and Ormenis. In our study area, the highest dispersal availability was synchronized with the dry summer season (July–August) and the beginning of the rainy months (September). The dispersal peak for the wind-dispersed species, which is the most effective primary dispersal mode, occurs during the dry season, while dispersal for the biotic-dispersed species takes place throughout the year. 相似文献

2010年3月至2011年7月对西双版纳少数民族传统利用的药食两用植物进行民族植物学调查,通过访谈和野外调查工作,收集并记录了关于当地社区传统利用药食两用植物的传统知识以及其他相关信息,并选择了其中20种植物进行抗菌活性的筛选。共调查统计了43科95种西双版纳传统利用的药食两用植物,从分类学角度来看,以茄科(6种)和唇形科(6种)最多,其中草本植物占了最大比例,为49.5%。对其中20种植物的抗菌活性筛选结果显示,只有马蓝(Baphicacanthus cusia)和旋花茄(Sola-humspirale)对金黄色葡萄球菌有抑菌活性。从调查中可以看出:药食两用植物的利用在当地人的日常生活中仍占有相当重要的分量。但随着近年来经济快速发展导致的传统知识的急剧流失和森林的大面积砍伐,很多植物已经逐渐从人们的生活中淡出.如何保护这些传统知识并使其能够可持续发展下去是一个值得思考的问题。 相似文献

Thirty-three modern surface samples were collected in the environmentally and climatologically contrasting regions of the Middle and High Atlas Mountains, Morocco. Samples representing forest and steppe montane environments (1935–2760 m above sea level) are clustered around study sites at Lake Tislit (High Atlas, semi-arid oro-Mediterranean bioclime) and Lake Sidi Ali and Michliffen (Middle Atlas, sub-humid montane Mediterranean bioclime). Good discrimination between regional pollen spectra is evident, with Middle Atlas samples reflecting higher arboreal cover (Cedrus and evergreen Quercus) and High Atlas samples with high abundances of non-arboreal taxa, including Artemisia and Fabaceae. These four taxa (Cedrus, evergreen Quercus, Artemisia and Fabaceae) are furthermore shown to be reliable indicators of local source vegetation within a 100 m2 quadrat, taking into account threshold abundances of 7%, 20%, 4% and 10%, respectively. Deciduous Quercus, Olea and Phillyrea show long-distance pollen dispersal across both regions, contributing to non-trivial arboreal pollen (AP) values of up to 35% (typically 20–30%) in the High Atlas spectra. In the Middle Atlas, AP values of 40 to 50% occur in open sampling locations and > 60% under forest canopy cover. These insights should be taken into account when interpreting ancient pollen spectra from regional lakes and bogs for palaeoenvironmental reconstruction. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to document the traditional knowledge of plants used for textile dyeing by the Tai-Lao ethnic group in Roi Et province in northeastern Thailand. Traditional knowledge of plants used for textile dyeing is disappearing because of modernization including new lifestyles, urbanization, and the introduction of synthetic colors. Textile dyeing with local plants, however, is experiencing a revival connected to ecotourism and global interest in natural products. To exploit that potential, it is important to preserve the local knowledge related to textile dyeing. We interviewed 60 Tai-Lao informants in 15 villages and 9 districts about their dyeing traditions and the species used through individual semi-structured and focus groups interviews. A total of 56 species in 50 genera and 31 families were used for dyeing cotton and silks; most species belonged to Fabaceae (11 spp., 19%) and Anacardiaceae (5 spp., 9%). Trees (36 spp., 65%) were the best represented life form among the dye plants, followed by shrubs and herbs (8 spp., 16% each), and climbers (4 spp., 7%). Bark was the plant part most commonly used for dyeing (25 spp., 42%) followed by leaves (12 spp., 20%), and fruits (9 spp., 15%). Home gardens were the most common habitat of dye plant (30 spp., 53%) followed by community forests (16 spp., 28%). Indigofera tinctoria L. and Pterocarpus indicus Willd. were the most important dye plant species of the Tai-Lao ethnic group as demonstrated by their high use value index (UV = 0.60). Blue/indigo-blue was the color most informants had common knowledge about with an informant consensus factor (ICF) of 0.92 followed by black with ICF = 0.84. Ten different colors were obtained from the 56 plant species. Brown/pale-brown/golden-brown was the color obtained from most dye plant species (14 spp., 25%) followed by green/pale-green/dark-green (13 spp., 23%). Nine different kinds of mordants were used in the dyeing, including alum, chrome (potassium dichromate; K2Cr2O7), copper sulfate (CuSO4), iron oxide (Fe2O3), tamarind juice (tartaric acid), salt (NaCl), lime (calcium oxide; CaO), ash (potassium hydroxide; KOH), and mud. Among the 56 species used for textile dyeing, three are on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, including: Dipterocarpus alatus Roxb. & G.Don, Dipterocarpus obtusifolius Teijsm. ex Miq., and Pterocarpus indicus Willd. Documenting these and other species used for textile dyeing will provide additional arguments for their conservation. It will also help to secure the reappearing tradition of textile dyeing with local plants, and hence support the cultural integrity of the Tai-Lao communities, and serve as an example for other communities in Thailand and elsewhere for preserving their traditional knowledge. 相似文献
