The experimentally measured oxygen consumption rate by the cladoceran,Ceriodaphnia dubia, showed a linear increase between 5 and 20°C.Oxygen consumption rates of C. dubia were estimated in situfrom respiratory electron transport system (ETS) activity inLake Rotongaio during summer stratification and winter mixing.Oxygen consumption was 0.002 µl O2 animal–1 h–1in the hypolimnion and 0.076 µl O2 animal–1 h–1in the epilimnion during stratification. Implications of respiredoxygen for metabolic carbon requirements are discussed.  相似文献

Respiration losses in planktonic green algae cultivated in raceway ponds   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
Rates of respiratory oxygen uptake were measured in darkenedsamples of green microalgae (Coelastrum sphaericum, Scenedesmusfalcatus) growing in raceway ponds under field conditions andindoors. The rates measured over 6–26h varied between1 and 1.5 and 8.25 µl O2 mg–1 h–1 and dependedon incubation, temperature, time in the dark, and on the temperatureand irradiance at which the algae were cultivated before. Q10values ranged from 1.43 to 1.68. Arrhenius relationships describedthe influence of temperature upon respiration rates below theoptimum temperature, even after many hours of incubation inthe dark. Respiration rates were lower after growth at optimaltemperature than after cultivation at other temperatures. Thelight history also influenced the rates, being high when thealgae were darkened after exposure to high irradiance and lowerafter weaker pre-illumination. For the algae under study theoverall loss during 12h of darkness was estimated to be 2–10%of the biomass prior to darkening. Higher losses are expectedfor natural conditions and stronger irradiances.  相似文献

Feeding on natural plankton populations and respiration of thesmall cyclopoid copepod Oithona similis were measured duringthe warm season in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, USA. AlthoughO.similis did not significantly ingest small autotrophic andheterotrophic flagellates (2–8 µn), this copepodactively fed on >10 µm particles, including autotrophic/heterotrophic(dino)flagel-lates and ciliates, with clearance rates of 0.03–0.38ml animal–1 h–1. The clearance rates increased withthe prey size. O.similis also fed on copepod nauplii (mainlycomposed of the N1 stage of Acartia tonsa with a clearance rateof 0.16 ml animal–1 h–1. Daily carbon ration fromthe combination of these food items averaged 148 ng C animal–1day–1 (41% of body C day–1), with ciliates and heterotrophicdino-flagellates being the main food source ({small tilde}69%of total carbon ration). Respiration rates were 020–0.23µl O2 animal–1 day–1. Assuming a respiratoryquotient of 0.8 and digestion efficiency of 0.7, the carbonrequirement for respiration was calculated to be 125–143ng C animal–1 day–1, close to the daily carbon rationestimated above. We conclude that predation on ciliates andheterotrophic dinoflagellates was important for O.similis tosustain its population in our study area during the warm season.  相似文献

Three marine phytoplankton species (Skeletonema costatum, Olisthodiscusluteus andGonyaulax tamarensis) were grown in batch culturesat 15°C and a 14:10 L:D cycle at irradiance levels rangingfrom 5 to 450 µEinst m–2 s–1. At each irradiance, during exponential growth, concurrent measurements were madeof cell division, carbon-specific growth rate, photosyntheticperformance (both O2 and POC production), dark respiration, and cellular composition in terms of C, N and chlorophyll a.The results indicate that the three species were similar withrespect to chemical composition, C:N (atomic) = 6.9 ±0.4, photo-synthetic quotient, 1.43 ± 0.09, and photosyntheticefficiency, 2.3 ±0.1 x 10–3 µmol O2 (µgChl a)–1 h–1 (µEinst m–2 s–1)–1.Differences in maximum growth rate varied as the –0.24power of cell carbon. Differences in growth efficiency, werebest explained by a power function of Chl a:C at µ = 0.Compensation intensities, ranged from 1.1 µEinst m–2s–1 for S. costatum to 35 forG. tamarensis and were foundto be a linear function of the maintenance respiration rate. The results indicate that interspecific differences in the µ–Irelationship can be adequately explained in terms of just threeparameters: cell carbon at maximum growth rate, the C:Chl aratio (at the limit as growth approaches zero) and the respirationrate at zero growth rate. A light-limited algal growth modelbased on these results gave an excellent fit to the experimentalµ–I curves and explained 97% of the observed interspecificvariability. 1Present address: Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory Columbiaof University, Palisades, NY 10964, USA  相似文献

The relationships between photosynthesis and photosyntheticphoton flux densities (PPFD, P-l) were studied during a red-tideof Dinophysis norvegica (July-August 1990) in Bedford Basin.Dinophysis norvegica, together with other dinoflagellates suchas Gonyaulax digitate, Ceratium tripos, contributed {small tilde}50%of the phytoplankton biomass that attained a maximum of 16.7µg Chla 1 and 11.93 106 total cells I–1.The atomic ratios of carbon to nitrogen for D.norvegica rangedfrom 8.7 to 10.0. The photosynthetic characteristics of fractionatedphytoplankton (>30 µm) dominated by D.norvegica weresimilar to natural bloom assemblages: o (the initial slope ofthe P-l curves) ranged between 0.013 and 0.047 µg C [µgChla]–1 h–1 [µmol m s–1]–1the maximum photosynthetic rate, pBm, between 0.66 and 1.85µg C [µghla]–1 h–1; lk (the photoadaptationindex) from 14 to 69 µ,mol m–2 s–1. Carbonuptake rates of the isolated cells of D.norvegica (at 780 µmolm–2 s–1) ranged from 16 to 25 pg C cell–1h and were lower than those for C.tripos, G.digitaleand some other dinoflagellates. The variation in carbon uptakerates of isolated cells of D.norvegica corresponded with PBmof the red-tide phytoplankton assemblages in the P-l experiments. Our study showed that D.norvegica, a toxigenic dinoflagellate, was the main contributor to the primary production in the bloom.  相似文献

Rates of net photosynthesis of the flag leaves of 15 genotypesof wheat and related species were measured throughout theirlife, using intact leaves on plants grown in the field. At thestage when rates were maximal, they were in general highestfor the diploid species, intermediate for the tetraploidspeciesand lowest for Triticum aestivum (means of 38, 32 and 28 mgCO2 dm–2 h–1 respectively). Rates were stronglynegatively correlated with leaf area, leaf width and the meanplan area per mesophyll cell and positvely correlated with stomatalfrequency and number of veins per mm of leaf width. The differencesamong species in these attributes were mainly related to ploidylevel. It was not possible to determine the relative importanceof each anatomical feature, though the changes in stomatal frequencyhad only slight effects on stomatal conductance and the observeddifferences in rates of photosynthesis were much greater thanwould be expected from those in stomatal conductance alone. There was genetic variation in rates of light dependent oxygenevolution of isolated protoplasts and intact chloroplasts butno difference attributable to ploidy. The mean rate, 91 µmolO2 mg–1 chlorophyll h–1, equivalent to 3.9 mg CO2mg-1chlorophyll h-1 was considerably less than the rate of photosynthesisin comparable intact leaves, which was 7.2 mg CO2 mg–1chlorophyll h–1. The total above-ground dry matter yields were least for thewild diploids T. urartu and T. thauodar and the wild tetraploidT. dicoccoides, but the other wild diploids produced as muchdry matter as the hexaploids. The prospects of exploiting differences in photosynthetic ratein the breeding of higher yielding varieties are discussed. The Carbon Economy of Rubus chamaemorus L. II. Respiration   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
MARKS  T. C. 《Annals of botany》1978,42(1):181-190
Respiratory activity and seasonal changes in carbohydrate contentof the storage organs of Rubus chamaemorus L. have been investigated.Leaf dark respiration rate increases in a non-linear mannerfrom 0·7 mg CO2 evolved dm–2 h–1 at 0 °Cto 4·6 rng CO2 evolved dm–2 hh–1 at 30 °C.Root and rhizome respiration rates increase from 1 µ1O2 uptake g–1 fresh weight h–1 at 0.7 ° C to10 µ10, uptake g–1 f. wt h–1 at 20 °C.Rhizome carbohydrate reserves decline from a September peakof 33 per cent alcohol insoluble d. wt to 16 per cent in May. The circumpolar distribution of R. chamaemorus is discussedin relation to the evidence presented here and in the precedingpaper of the series.  相似文献

A rapid and convenient procedure was developed for isolatingguard cell protoplasts (GCPs) from epidermal strips of Viciafaba L. The mean rates of O2 uptake in the dark and evolutionin light of the isolated GCPs were 200 and 290 µmol O2mg–1 Chl h–1, respectively, showing net O2 evolutionin light. Photosynthetic O2 evolution was suppressed completelyby 5 µM DCMU. Addition of 5 µM DCMU to the incubationmedium after 30 min of light exposure also suppressed the light-inducedswelling of GCP, indicating possible participation of PS IIin volume regulation in GCP. 4Present address: Division of Environmental Biology, The NationalInstitute for Environmental Studies, Yatabe machi, Tsukuba,Ibaraki 305, Japan. Planktonic primary production in the German Wadden Sea   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
By combining weekly data of irradiance, attenuation and chlorophylla concentrations with photosynthesis (P) versus light intensity(E) curve characteristics, the annual cycle of planktonic primaryproduction in the estuarine part of the Northfrisian WaddenSea was computed for a 2 year period. Daily water column particulategross production ranged from 5 to 2200 mg C m–2 day–1and showed a seasonal pattern similar to chlorophyll a. Budgetcalculation yielded annual gross particulate primary productionsof 124 and 176 g C m–2 year–1 in 1995 and 1996,respectively. Annual amounts of phytoplankton respiration, calculatedaccording to a two-compartment model of Langdon [in Li,W.K.W.and Maestrini,S.Y. (eds), Measurement of Primary Productionfrom the Molecular to the Global Scale. International Councilfor the Exploration of the Sea, Copenhagen, 1993, pp. 20–36],and dissolved production in 1996, were both in the range of24–39 g C m–2 year–1. Annual total net productionwas thus very similar to particulate gross production (127 and177 g C m–2 year–1 in 1995 and 1996, respectively).Phytoplankton growth was low or even negative in winter. Inspring and summer, production/biomass (Pr/B) ratios varied from0.2 up to 1.7. Phytoplankton growth during the growth seasonalways surpassed average flushing time in the area, thus underliningthe potential of local phytoplankton bloom development in thispart of the Wadden Sea. The chlorophyll-specific maximum photosyntheticrate (PBmax) ranged from 0.8 to 9.9 mg C mg–1 Chl h–1and was strongly correlated with water temperature (r2 = 0.67).By contrast, there was no clear seasonal cycle in B, which rangedfrom 0.007 to 0.039 mg C mg–1 Chl h–1 (µmolphotons m–2 s–1)–1. Its variability was muchless than PBmax and independent of temperature. The magnitudeand part of the variability of PBmax and B are presumably causedby changes in species composition, as evidenced from the rangeof these parameters found among 10 predominant diatom speciesisolated from the Wadden Sea. The ratio of average light conditionsin the water column (Eav) to the light saturation parameterEk indicates that primary production in the Wadden Sea regionunder study is predominantly controlled by light limitationand that nutrient limitation was likely to occur for a few hoursper day only during 5 (dissolved inorganic nitrogen) to 10 (PO4,Si) weeks in the 2 year period investigated.  相似文献

Water exchange, temperature tolerance and oxygen consumptionof the snail, Trigonephrus sp., from the southern Namib desertof Namibia were examined and related to activity. At 25°Cand 15% R.H. mean water loss and food and water uptake were5.95 mg. day–1 and 630 mg.day–1, respectively. Bodytemperature tracked sand temperature. Snails tolerated sandtemperatures as high as 45°C. Mean ± S.D. oxygenconsumption rates were 32.0 ± 2.94 µlO2.g totalbody mass–1.h–1 at 15°C, when the snails wereactive, and 11.27 µlO2.g total body mass–1.h–1at 25°C, when the snails were inactive. These values are2-6 times lower than those recorded for the similarly sizedmesic snail, Helix aspersa. Activity experiments indicated thatlow ambient temperatures and high humidities were favoured bythe snails. This, together with the burying behaviour of thesesnails during high temperatures, suggests that they limit stressby restricting activity to physiologically-favourable periods, even though more-extreme conditions may be tolerated. Chloroplast preparations from the young primary leaves of Phaseolusvulgaris L. cv. Canadian Wonder carry out the DNA-dependentincorporation of UTP into RNA at rates between 8 and 14 pmolUTP µg–1 chlorophyll h–1. It is estimatedthat 90% of the activity was localized in the chloroplasts. The incorporation proceeded for between 20 and 30 min at 35°C. The maximum rates of RNA synthesis were attained atpH 8.3, in the presence of 15 mM MgCl2. Chloroplasts were alsoactive, to a lesser extent, with 1.5 mM MnCl2. The simultaneouspresence of MnCl2 and MgCl2 resulted in inhibition of activity.Nuclear material prepared from young P. vulgaris leaves incorporatedUTP at a rate of about 12 pmol UTP µg–1 DNA h–1.On a chloroplast (Tritonsoluble) DNA basis chloroplast activitywas over 40-fold that of nuclei. Methods of solubilizing chloroplastRNA polymerase were explored. Yields of over 75% were achieved, but methods suitable for one species were not always successfulwhen applied to another. The highest yields of the P. vulgarisenzyme were obtained using EDTA and KCl. All methods resultedin solubilization of DNA. RNA synthesis by the soluble P. vulgarisenzyme proceeded for more than 40 min at 35 °C.  相似文献

The response of phytoplankton to variations in the light regimewas studied during the VULCAN and ACDA cruises in the Antarctic.Unenriched batch cultures of 12–19 days' duration reachedchl concentrations of 10–50 µg–1 and exhibitedexponential growth rates, with the maximal rate being 0.41 doubl,day–1. Ice edge algae exhibited maximum growth rates atphoton flux densities (PFD) of 30–100 µE m–2S–1and the growth rate was reduced by about 30% at 500–1000µE m–2S–1 The chl/C ratio ranged between 0.004and 0.018, with the lowest ratios at PFDs above 500 µEm–2S–1 chl/C ratios were also below maximum at PFDsbelow 40–50 µE m–2S–1 The C:N:P ratioswere close to the Redfield ratios; the Si/C ratio averaged 0.16(atoms), and the ATP/C ratio averaged from 0.0024 to 0.0050in different culture senes. When thawed after having been frozenfor 10 days, shade-adapted cultures were in a much better conditionthan sun-adapted ones. P versus I data showed that the maximumassimilation number varied from 0.75 to 4.4 µg C (µgchl)–1h–1. It varied inversely with the chl/C ratio;therefore the maximum carbon turnover rate varied little betweensamples (0.024/0.035 h–1). Low biomass communities exhibitedrelatively high values for (the initial slope of P versus Icurves), low values for 1sat (160–330 µE m–2S–1),and they were susceptible to photoinhibition. In contrast, communitiesdominated by Odontella weissflogii exhibited low values for, a high value for Isat (560 µE m–2S–1 andthey tolerated high PFDs. The photo-adaptational status of thephytoplankton in natural water samples is discussed relativeto the profile of water column stability and mixing processes.  相似文献

Whitehead, D. C. and Lockyer, D. R. 1986. The influence of theconcentration of gaseous ammonia on its uptake by the leavesof Italian ryegrass, with and without an adequate supply ofnitrogen to the roots.—J. exp. Bot. 38: 818–827. Plants of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) were grownin pots of soil with two rates of 15N-labclled nitrate, oneproviding adequate, and the other less than adequate, N formaximum growth. After 25 d in a controlled environment cabinet, the plants were transferred to chambers and exposed for 33 dto NH3in the air at one of nine concentrations ranging from14 to 709 µg NH3 m–3. Increasing the concentrationof NH3 in the air increased the dry weight of the shoots ofplants grown at the lower but not the higher rate of nitrate. The content of total N in the plant shoots (% dry weight) waslinearly related to NH3 concentration; at 709 µg NH3 andin both sets of plants it was more than double the content at14 µg NH3 m–3. Calculations, based on 15N enrichment, indicated that the amount of N taken up from the NH3 per unitleaf area increased linearly with increasing concentration ofNH3 in the air uptake (µg dm–2 h–1) = 0.1009xat the lower rate of nitrate and 0-0829x at the higher rateof nitrate, where x is the concentration of NH3 in the air expressedas µg NH3m–3. The proportion of the total plant N that was derived from theNH3 ranged from 4?0% at a concentration of 14 µg NH3 m–3with the higher rate of nitrate addition to 77?5% at a concentrationof 709 µg m–3 with the lower rate of nitrate addition. The proportions of the total N in the water-insoluble proteinof the leaf tissue that were derived from nitrate and gaseousNH3 were similar to the proportions in the whole leaf material. The acidophilic alga Dunaliella acidophila exhibits optimalgrowth at pH 1. We have investigated the regulation of phosphateuptake by this alga using tracer techniques and by performingintracellular phosphate measurements under different growthconditions including phosphate limitation. In batch culturewith 2·2 mol m–3 phosphate in the medium the uptakeof phosphate at micromolar phosphate concentrations followeda linear time dependence in the range of minutes and rates werein the range of 1 µmol phosphate mg–1 chl h–1,only. However, under discontinuous phosphate-limited growthconditions, tracer influx revealed a biphasic pattern at micromolarphosphate concentrations: An initial burst phase resulted ina 104-fold internal phosphate accumulation and levelled offafter about 10 s. A double reciprocal plot of the initial influxrates obtained for phosphate-limited and unlimited algae exhibitedMichaelis-Menten kinetics. Phosphate limitation caused a significantactivation of the maximum velocity of uptake, yielding Vmaxup to 1 mmol mg–1 chl h–1 as compared to valuesin the order of 50 µmol phosphate mg–1 chl h–1for the second phase (this magnitude is also representativefor non-limited batch cultures). Concomitantly the Michaelisconstant was altered from 4 mmol m–3 to 0·7 mmolm–3. The rapid uptake of phosphate was inhibited by arsenateand FCCP and was not stimulated by Na+. The pH dependence oftracer accumulation and measurements of the intracellular phosphatepool under different growth conditions indicate that at lowpH and low external phosphate concentrations the high protongradient present under these conditions is utilized for a H3PO4uptake or a H+/H2PO4 cotransport. However, when the externalphosphate concentration was increased to levels sufficientlyhigh for transport to be driven by the positive membrane potential(10 mol m–3 phosphate), the pH dependence of phosphateuptake was more complex, but could be explained by the uptakeof H3PO4 or a H+/H2PO4-cotransport at low pH and a differenttype H2PO4-transport (with unknown type of ion coupling)at high pH-values. It is suggested that this flexible couplingof phosphate transport is of essential importance for the acidresistance of Dunaliella acidophila. Effects of diffusion and upwelling on the formation of red tides   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
In this paper, records on the timing and location of specificred tides monitored once or twice a week in Mikawa Bay, Japan, are related to horizontal and vertical mixing rates determinedfrom a numerical model. Horizontal (Kh) and vertical (Kz) diffusioncoefficients, and upwelling velocities, were estimated usinga box model analysis. In the wind-mixed period and in the upperlayer during the stratified period, Kh was estimated to be ofthe order of 102 m2 s–1. During the stratified period,Kz was estimated to be of the order of 10–5 m2 s–1.The upwelling velocity was calculated to be in the range 0.35–5.1m day–1 with an average of 1.5 m day–1. Comparisonbetween the literature values of the specific growth rate (µ)of the red tide-forming diatoms and calculated Kh values duringthe red tides show that diatoms which have a low µ cannotform red tides in a strongly diffusive environment, while specieshaving a high µ can form red tides even in a strong diffusiveenvironment. On the other hand, no clear relationship was foundbetween µ of the flagellate group and Kh, although theflagellate group formed red tides even in severe diffusive conditions. From the comparison between the literature values of sinkingrate and swimming speed and the physical parameters associatedwith vertical processes, it was concluded that flagellates willform red tides, even in severe diffusive conditions, by usingtheir swimming ability, while diatoms form red tides by theirhigh growth rates with the aid of vertical diffusion and theupwelling movement of water.  相似文献

Photosynthetic Properties of Guard Cell Protoplasts from Vicia faba L.   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Guard cell protoplasts were isolated enzymatically from theepidermis of Vicia faba L. and their photosynthetic activitieswere investigated. Time courses of light-induced changes inthe chlorophyll a fluorescence intensity of these protoplastsshowed essentially the same induction kinetics as found formesophyll protoplasts of Vicia. The transient change in thefluorescence intensity was affected by DCMU, an inhibitor ofphotosystem II; by phenylmercuric acetate, an inhibitor of ferredoxinand ferredoxin NADP reductase; and by methyl viologen, an acceptorof photosystem I. Low temperature (77 K) emission spectra ofthe protoplasts had peaks at 684 and 735 nm and a shoulder near695 nm. A high O2 uptake (175 µmol mg–1 Chl hr–1)was observed in guard cell protoplasts kept in darkness, whichwas inhibited by 2 mM KCN or NaN3 by about 60%. On illumination, this O2 uptake was partially or completely suppressed, but itssuppression was removed by DCMU, which indicates that oxygenwas evolved (150 µmol mg–1 Chl hr–1) photosynthetically. We concluded that both photosystems I and II function in guardcell chloroplasts and that these protoplasts have high respiratoryactivity. The Uptake of Gaseous Ammonia by the Leaves of Italian Ryegrass   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Lockyer, D. R. and Whitehead, D. C. 1986. The uptake of gaseousammonia by the leaves of Italian ryegrass.—J. exp. Bot.37: 919–927. Plants of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) grown insoil with two rates of added 15N-labelled nitrate were exposed,in chambers, for 40 d to NH3 in the air at concentrations of16, 118 and 520 µg m–3. At the highest concentrationof NH3, this source provided 47?3% of the total nitrogen inplants grown with the lower rate of nitrate addition (100mgN kg–1 dry soil) and 35?2% with the higher rate (200mgN kg–1 dry soil) At the intermediate concentration ofNH3, the contributions to total plant N were 19?6% and 10?8%,respectively, at low and high nitrate while, at the lowest concentrationof NH3, they were 5?1% and 32%. Most of the N derived from theNH3 remained in the leaves, but some was transported to theroots. The amount of N derived from the NH3 that was presentin the leaves was not reduced by washing the leaves in waterat pH 5?0 before harvesting, indicating that the N was assimilatedby the plant and not adsorbed superficially. Rates of uptakeof NH3 per unit leaf area ranged from 1?7 µg dm–2h–1 at a concentration of 16 µg m–3 to 29?0µg dm–2 h–1 at a concentration of 520 µgm–3 and with the lower rate of nitrate addition. Increasingthe supply of nitrate to the roots slightly reduced the rateof uptake of NH3 per unit leaf area. Uptake of N from the higherrate of nitrate was reduced at the highest concentration ofNH3 in the air. Key words: Ammonia, nitrogen, leaf sorption, Lolium multiflorum  相似文献

The respiratory effluxes of nodules and of roots of FiskebyV soyabean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.), grown in a controlled environment, were measured at intervals in air and 3% O2 from shortly afterthe onset of N2 fixation until plant senescence. The respiratoryburdens linked with nitrogenase plus ammonia metabolism, andnodule growth and maintenance, were calculated from gas exchangedata and related to the concurrent rates of N2 fixation. The specific respiration rates of nodules increased to a maximumof 21 mg CO2 g–1 h–1 at the time pods began development:the equivalent maximum for roots was c. 4.5 mg CO2 g–1h–1. Maximum nodule and root respiration rates per plantwere attained about 25 d later at the time N2 fixation peakedat 15 mg N d–1 plant–1. The relationship between nodule respiration and N2 fixationindicated an average respiratory cost of 13.2 mg CO2 mg–1N until the last few days of plant development Separation ofnodule respiration into the two components: nitrogenase (+ NH3metabolism) respiration and nodule growth and maintenance respiration, indicated that the latter efflux accounted for c. 20% of nodulerespiration while N2 fixation was increasing and new noduletissue was being formed. When nodule growth ceased and N2 fixationdeclined, this component of respiration also declined. The respiratorycost of nitrogenase activity plus the associated metabolismof NH3 varied between 11 mg CO2 mg–1 N during vegetativeand early reproductive growth, to 12.5 mg CO2 mg–1 N duringthe later stages of pod development. The CO2 compensation point at 25 °C and 250 µEinsteinsm–2 s–1 wasmeasured for 27 bryo-phyte species, andwas found to be in the range of 45–160 µl CO2 I–1air. Under the same conditions Zea mays gave a value of 11 µlI–1 and Horde um vulgare 76 µI–1. The rate of loss of photosyntheticallyfixed 14CO2 in the light and dark in six bryophytes (three mosses, two leafy liverworts, one thalloid liverwort) was determinedin CO2-free air and 100% O2. The rate of 14CO2 evolution inthe light was less than that in the dark in CL2-free air, butin 100% O2 the rate in the light increased, so that in all butthe leafy liverworts it was greater than that in the dark. Raisingthe temperature tended to increase the rate of 14CO2 evolutioninto CO2-free air both in the light and dark, so that the light/dark(L/D) ratio did not greatly vary. The lower rate of loss of14CO2 in the light compared tothe dark could be due to partialinhibition of ‘dark respiration’ reactions in thelight, a low rate of glycolate synthesis and oxidation, or partialreassimilation of the 14CO2 produced, or a combination of someor all of these factors.  相似文献

Acclimation of Lolium temulentum to enhanced carbon dioxide concentration   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Acclimation of single plants of Lolium temulentum to changing[CO2] was studied on plants grown in controlled environmentsat 20°C with an 8 h photoperiod. In the first experimentplants were grown at 135 µ;mol m–2 s–1 photosyntheticphoton flux density (PPFD) at 415µl l–1 or 550µll–1 [CO2] with some plants transferred from the lowerto the higher [CO2] at emergence of leaf 4. In the second experimentplants were grown at 135 and 500 µmol m–2 s–1PPFD at 345 and 575 µl l–1 [CO2]. High [CO2] during growth had little effect on stomatal density, total soluble proteins, chlorophyll a content, amount of Rubiscoor cytochrome f. However, increasing [CO2] during measurementincreased photosynthetic rates, particularly in high light.Plants grown in the higher [CO2] had greater leaf extension, leaf and plant growth rates in low but not in high light. Theresults are discussed in relation to the limitation of growthby sink capacity and the modifications in the plant which allowthe storage of extra assimilates at high [CO2].
