Strain while skiing and hauling a sledge or carrying a backpack   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Eight soldiers on skis transported three loads of different weights on the level, uphill and downhill. The load was placed either on a cargo sledge or in a backpack or divided between the sledge and the backpack. The sledge had a new type of haulage-shaft, which was fixed to both sides of the pelvis. A service belt spread the pull over the whole upper body. The physical stain of different transport methods and the serviceability of the sledge was studied by measuring heart rate (HR), oxygen consumption, ventilation, and perceived exertion. The results indicate that both absolute and relative strain were systematically lower when pulling the load on the sledge than when carrying it in the backpack and on the sledge. HR when pulling a load equal to the human body weight on the sledge was on average 133 beats X min-1; HR was significantly higher 144 beats X min-1 when the load was divided between backpack and sledge. At the lower load level the differences between the transport methods were not significant for HR, oxygen consumption or ventilation. Uphill travel increased oxygen consumption by about 50% over that on the level. Perceived exertion at all load levels was significantly lower with the sledge than with the backpack alone or in combination. The estimated maximal allowable working time emphasized the advantage of the sledge and the importance of high physical working capacity. A method for type analysis of learning curves, based on the statistical mixture decomposition, is described. Some critical points in current data-analytic techniques are discussed. The mathematical rationale of the new method is outlined in a brief sketch. The possibilities of the method are documented by two examples. In the first study, done on simulated lata of a known structure (N = 200, 2 classes), it was possible to distinguish, with an average performance of 82%, between two types, and to reproduce their original curves. In the second study data from experiments in classical eye-lid conditioning in man were analysed (N = 80). The decomposition procedure resulted into the classification into four groups, with pronounced inter-class differences in the course of respective learning curves. The variety of class curves ranges from a group with only few CRs (C1, N = 26), through a group with an initial increase and final decrease in CR frequency (C2, N = 16), a group with an apparently biphasic course of CR frequency (C3, N = 20), to a group with a rapid increase of CR and then stable course of CR frequency (C4, N = 18). The results are consistent with earlier findings concerning the existence of distinct types of learning curves. The problem of interpretation is briefly discussed. The method can be applied principally to any problems, where different types of time development trends of an alternative response are to be distinguished.  相似文献

Previous morphological and histochemical studies of argasid tick salivary glands indicated that they were less complex than ixodid salivary glands, with only three granular cell types. The present study shows that there exist at least four different granular cell types in the salivary glands of the argasid tick Ornithodoros savignyi, based on immuno-localization of the anti-hemostatic factors, apyrase and savignygrin. Both anti-hemostatic factors were localized to dense core granule type 'a' and to granule type 'b', that shares a similar homogenous morphology with non-labeled granule type 'd'. Furthermore, the major tick salivary gland proteins (TSGPs), previously implicated in granule biogenesis, were localized to all the granular cell types. This indicates that granular cell types with different morphologies can express the same proteins, while cell types that show similar morphologies may not express the same proteins. Argasid tick salivary glands seem to be more complex than previously thought and might not be amenable to morphological classification alone. Alternative classification methodologies that rely on physical expression patterns of the salivary gland proteome might be more reliable as markers for a specific granular cell type.  相似文献

Using surface electromyography (sEMG) signal for efficient recognition of hand gestures has attracted increasing attention during the last decade, with most previous work being focused on recognition of upper arm and gross hand movements and some work on the classification of individual finger movements such as finger typing tasks. However, relatively few investigations can be found in the literature for automatic classification of multiple finger movements such as finger number gestures. This paper focuses on the recognition of number gestures based on a 4-channel wireless sEMG system. We investigate the effects of three popular feature types (i.e. Hudgins’ time–domain features (TD), autocorrelation and cross-correlation coefficients (ACCC) and spectral power magnitudes (SPM)) and four popular classification algorithms (i.e. k-nearest neighbor (k-NN), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA) and support vector machine (SVM)) in offline recognition. Motivated by the good performance of SVM, we further propose combining the three features and employing a new classification method, multiple kernel learning SVM (MKL-SVM). Real sEMG results from six subjects show that all combinations, except k-NN or LDA using ACCC features, can achieve above 91% average recognition accuracy, and the highest accuracy is 97.93% achieved by the proposed MKL-SVM method using the three feature combination (3F). Referring to the offline recognition results, we also implement a real-time recognition system. Our results show that all six subjects can achieve a real-time recognition accuracy higher than 90%. The number gestures are therefore promising for practical applications such as human–computer interaction (HCI).  相似文献

Many theoretical and field studies have emphasized the impact of disturbance in the dynamics and diversity of sessile organism communities. This view is best reflected by the Intermediate Disturbance Hypothesis (IDH), which states that a maximum of diversity is found in ecosystems or communities experiencing intermediate disturbance regimes or at an intermediate stage of development since the last major disturbance event. Although theoretical models based on competitive interactions tend to validate this hypothesis, a recent meta-analysis of field experiments revealed that the mono-modal relationship between disturbance and diversity might not be a general pattern. In this article, we investigate the relationship between disturbance and diversity through the study of patch models, combining two types of competitive interactions: with or without competitive hierarchy, with two mechanisms influencing colonization: negative frequency dependence in colonization rates and immigration. These combinations led to various disturbance-diversity patterns. In the model without competitive hierarchy (founder effect model), a decreasing relationship appeared to be the rule as mentioned in previous studies. In the model with competitive hierarchy, the IDH pattern was obtained for low frequency dependence and low immigration. Nevertheless, high negative frequency dependence in colonization rates led to a decreasing relationship between disturbance and diversity. In contrast, high immigration led to an increasing relationship. The coexistence window (the range of disturbance intensity allowing coexistence) was the widest for intermediate immigration rates. For random species assemblages, patterns with multiple peaks were also possible. These results highlight the fact that the mono-modal IDH pattern should not be considered a rule. Competition and colonization mechanisms have a profound impact on the relationship between disturbance and diversity.  相似文献

The increasing spatiotemporal accuracy of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) tracking systems opens the possibility to infer animal behaviour from tracking data. We studied the relationship between high-frequency GNSS data and behaviour, aimed at developing an easily interpretable classification method to infer behaviour from location data. Behavioural observations were carried out during tracking of cows (Bos Taurus) fitted with high-frequency GPS (Global Positioning System) receivers. Data were obtained in an open field and forested area, and movement metrics were calculated for 1 min, 12 s and 2 s intervals. We observed four behaviour types (Foraging, Lying, Standing and Walking). We subsequently used Classification and Regression Trees to classify the simultaneously obtained GPS data as these behaviour types, based on distances and turning angles between fixes. GPS data with a 1 min interval from the open field was classified correctly for more than 70% of the samples. Data from the 12 s and 2 s interval could not be classified successfully, emphasizing that the interval should be long enough for the behaviour to be defined by its characteristic movement metrics. Data obtained in the forested area were classified with a lower accuracy (57%) than the data from the open field, due to a larger positional error of GPS locations and differences in behavioural performance influenced by the habitat type. This demonstrates the importance of understanding the relationship between behaviour and movement metrics, derived from GNSS fixes at different frequencies and in different habitats, in order to successfully infer behaviour. When spatially accurate location data can be obtained, behaviour can be inferred from high-frequency GNSS fixes by calculating simple movement metrics and using easily interpretable decision trees. This allows for the combined study of animal behaviour and habitat use based on location data, and might make it possible to detect deviations in behaviour at the individual level.  相似文献

The discovery of molecular subtypes of the pathological prion protein PrPSc has provided the basis for a novel classification of human transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) and a potentially powerful method for strain typing. However, there is still a significant disparity regarding the understanding and nomenclature of PrPSc types. In addition, it is still unknown whether a specific PrPSc type is associated with each TSE phenotypic variant. In sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD), five disease phenotypes are known, but only two major types of PrPSc, types 1 and 2, have been consistently reproduced. We further analyzed PrPSc properties in sCJD and variant CJD using a high resolution gel electrophoresis system and varying experimental conditions. We found that pH varies among CJD brain homogenates in standard buffers, thereby influencing the characteristics of protease-treated PrPSc. We also show that PrPSc type 1 and type 2 are heterogeneous species which can be further distinguished into five molecular subtypes that fit the current histopathological classification of sCJD variants. Our results shed light on previous disparities in PrPSc typing, provide a refined classification of human PrPSc types, and support the notion that the pathological TSE phenotype is related to PrPSc structure.  相似文献

Metazoans are composed of a finite number of recognisable cell types. Similar to the relationship between species and ecosystems, knowledge of cell type diversity contributes to studies of complexity and evolution. However, as with other units of evolution, the cell type often resists definition. This review proposes guidelines for characterising cell types and discusses cell homology and the various developmental pathways by which cell types arise, including germ layers, blastemata (secondary development/neurulation), stem cells, and transdifferentiation. An updated list of cell types is presented for a familiar, albeit overlooked model taxon, adult Homo sapiens, with 411 cell types, including 145 types of neurons, recognised. Two methods for organising these cell types are explored. One is the artificial classification technique, clustering cells using commonly accepted criteria of similarity. The second approach, an empirical method modeled after cladistics, resolves the classification in terms of shared features rather than overall similarity. While the results of each scheme differ, both methods address important questions. The artificial classification provides compelling (and independent) support for the neural crest as the fourth germ layer, while the cladistic approach permits the evaluation of cell type evolution. Using the cladistic approach we observe a correlation between the developmental and evolutionary origin of a cell, suggesting that this method is useful for predicting which cell types share common (multipotential) progenitors. Whereas the current effort is restricted by the availability of phenotypic details for most cell types, the present study demonstrates that a comprehensive cladistic classification is practical, attainable, and warranted. The use of cell types and cell type comparative classification schemes has the potential to offer new and alternative models for therapeutic evaluation.  相似文献

The rational classification of blood cells of a blowfly Calliphora vicina larva has been worked out basing on the studies of hemocyte morphology and their dynamics while ageing. Eight morphological cell types can be found during the third age in larva's hemolymph. Hemocytes of type I (prohemocytes) are undifferentiated cells, and, probably, serve as cambial elements of hemocytes of other types. Hemocytes of types II (thrombocytoids), III (cell platelets), IV, and V (early- and late post-thrombocytoids) possibly correspond to consecutive stages of a certain differentiation pattern. Hemocytes of types VI (filopodocytes), VII (crystal cells), and VIII (histolysocytes) posses a number of specific features and represent three independent cell lines. The existence of four independent cell lines in C. vicina hemolymph supports the polygenetic conception of hematopoiesis in insects. We compared our classification with other existing classifications of C. vicina larva blood cells, and proposed a new nomenclature of these cells. The existence of cells with crystal inclusions (type VII hemocytes) in C. vicina larva hemolymph has been shown for the first time. Data on two generations of blood cells during larval development of C. vicina were obtained. Hemocytes of types II, VI and VII belong to the first generation. These cells disappear completely at the stage of empty-poropped larva, when hemocytes of the second generation i.e. those of types III and VIII, appear in the hemolymph.  相似文献

The designation "polycystic kidneys" is vague and causes considerable confusion. This term comprises a number of affections, characterized by the presence of renal cysts. Cystic kidneys may be hereditary or sporadic. The defect may be isolated or occur as part of a syndrome. The identification of the exact nature of the lesion is therefore of paramount importance, not only for the prognosis of the propositus, but especially for the correct genetic counselling of the family. In this context, the perinatal autopsy represents an irreplaceable method of investigation. Since the pathogenesis of many, if not all, types of polycystic kidneys remains unknown, a practical classification must be based on gross and microscopic pathologic study, clinical features, and family history. Osathanondh and Potter (1964) distinguished four varieties, based on morphological findings, revealed by microdissection. Unfortunately, not all types of cystic kidneys are included in this classification. Moreover, their type III cystic kidney collects a number of clearly different entities. Nevertheless, once one is familiar with its deficiencies, the Osathanondh and Potter classification is still very useful.  相似文献

Question: How does a newly designed method of supervised clustering perform in the assignment of relevé (species composition) data to a previously established classification. How do the results compare to the assignment by experts and to the assignment using a completely different numerical method? Material: Relevés analysed represent 4186 Czech grassland plots and 4990 plots from a wide variety of vegetation types (359 different associations or basal communities) in The Netherlands. For both data sets we had at our disposal an expert classification, and for the Czech data we also had available a numerical classification as well as a classification based on a neural network method (multi‐layer perceptron). Methods: Two distance indices, one qualitative and one quantitative, are combined into a single index by weighted multiplication. The composite index is a distance index for the dissimilarity between relevés and vegetation types. For both data sets the classifications by the new method were compared with the existing classifications. Results: For the Czech grasslands we correctly classified 81% of the plots to the classes of an expert classification at the alliance level and 71% to the classes of the numerical classification. Correct classification rates for the Dutch relevés were 64, 78 and 83 % for the lowest (subassociation or association), association, and alliance level, respectively. Conclusion: Our method performs well in assigning community composition records to previously established classes. Its performance is comparable to the performance of other methods of supervised clustering. Compared with a multi‐layer perceptron (a type of artificial neural network), fewer parameters have to be estimated. Our method does not need the original relevé data for the types, but uses synoptic tables. Another practical advantage is the provision of directly interpretable information on the contributions of separate species to the result.  相似文献

We perform rhythmic and discrete arm movements on a daily basis, yet the motor control literature is not conclusive regarding the mechanisms controlling these movements; does a single mechanism generate both movement types, or are they controlled by separate mechanisms? A recent study reported partial asymmetric transfer of learning from discrete movements to rhythmic movements. Other studies have shown transfer of learning between large-amplitude to small-amplitude movements. The goal of this study is to explore which aspect is important for learning to be transferred from one type of movement to another: rhythmicity, amplitude or both. We propose two hypotheses: (1) Rhythmic and discrete movements are generated by different mechanisms; therefore we expect to see a partial or no transfer of learning between the two types of movements; (2) Within each movement type (rhythmic/discrete), there will be asymmetric transition of learning from larger movements to smaller ones. We used a learning-transfer paradigm, in which 70 participants performed flexion/extension movements with their forearm, and switched between types of movement, which differed in amplitude and/or rhythmicity. We found partial transfer of learning between discrete and rhythmic movements, and an asymmetric transfer of learning from larger movements to smaller movements (within the same type of movement). Our findings suggest that there are two different mechanisms underlying the generation of rhythmic and discrete arm movements, and that practicing on larger movements helps perform smaller movements; the latter finding might have implications for rehabilitation.  相似文献

Moist lower montane vegetation has rarely been classified beyond broad zonational belts over large altitudinal ranges due to highly diverse species composition and structure. This study shows it is possible to further classify such forest types within Bwindi‐Impenetrable National Park (BINP), and that these assemblages can be explained by a combination of environmental conditions and past management. Botanical and environmental data were collected along some 4000 m of linear transects from the area surrounding Mubwindi Swamp, BINP. Ordination using Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS) and classification using Two‐way Indicator Species Analysis (TWINSPAN) successfully identified four different species assemblages. These forest types were then named on the basis of the ecological characteristics of the species within the group, and the environmental conditions influencing the distribution and past disturbance of the forest. The techniques used were in agreement for three out of the four forest types identified. Analysis using an environmental overlay showed a significant association between forest type and altitude. The results of this study indicate that a regional classification of forest types within moist lower montane forest belt using only tree species is possible, and that the forest types identified can be explained by environmental conditions and past management.  相似文献

次南极电灯鱼矢耳石形态特征具有多样性.为了深入研究其形态特征,利用南设得兰群岛外侧水域采集的456尾次南极电灯鱼(体长范围6.0~8.8 cm)样本,对其矢耳石形态进行分析和判别.根据形态特征将次南极电灯鱼耳石分为4种类型,并采用椭圆傅里叶分析法选取表征耳石类型的77个傅里叶特征系数进行了分析.结果表明: 对4种耳石类型两两比较后发现,具有显著性差异的傅里叶特征系数最多及最少分别占总体的61%和28.6%;对77个傅里叶系数进行主成分分析,前22个主成分解释了总变异的76.6%;选取了17个傅里叶特征系数进行判别分析,建立判别函数,总体判别率为87.2%;根据椭圆傅里叶分析重建的耳石轮廓反映了4种耳石类型间的差异.4种耳石类型在不同体长及体质量的次南极电灯鱼中皆有出现,表明耳石类型具有随机性,且左右耳石类型不一致,表明其左右耳石外形具有差异性.4种耳石类型中,Ⅰ型和Ⅱ型占总体的72.6%,为次南极电灯鱼耳石的主要形态;Ⅲ型和Ⅳ型占总体的27.4%,为次要形态.  相似文献

The eastern forest stands of Northeast China Transect (NECT) were chosen to study the quantitative relationships between vegetation and pollen in surface samples. The indices of A (association index),O(over-representation index),U(under-representation index),C(correlation coefficient) and R(representation coefficient) for each pollen type were calculated. The results indicated that the relationships between vegetation and pollen type in surface samples were significant and the correlation coefficients of 70% pollen types were more than 0.5(α=0.05); the similarity between pollen assemblage and plant community was good and coefficient of similarity was more than 50%. 69 pollen types found in the surface samples could be divided into four groups with TWINSPAN classification and PCA ordination according to A,O,U and C. The four groups reflected the pollination characteristic of plants and the state of pollen conserved in soil. Group 1 was the associative group which could accurately reflect the local vegetation; Group 2 was over-representative group which had high pollen percentage outproportional to vegetation; Group 3 was the under-representative group in which the pollen were hardly obtainable from the soil, and Group 4 was also an under-representative group, in which pollen were easily obtainable in soil where plants directly grow from. The study also showed that A was a parameter to rectify pollen data and it was easier to obtain than parameter R. The parameters A and R have close relation and their regression equation was: A=-0.0421R2+0.2425R+0.3926(r2=0.6021). These groups and indices provide a solid foundation for using pollen data in accurately reinstating vegetation.  相似文献

The article presents a simple and rapid method for the correction of electromagnetic distortions when using electromagnetic Fastrak (Polhemus, USA) sensors. It is based on the minimization of objective functions composed of derivative polynomial functions, hence estimating the distortion of the electromagnetic field. The polynomial functions composing the objective function each contain 35 deformation coefficients. These coefficients are then used to correct the electromagnetic measures in position and orientation. Preliminary results on the efficacy of the method are presented for two subjects who walked on a treadmill, and for whom relative movement of the lower leg with respect to the thigh was recorded using two Fastrak sensors. The corrected Fastrak measurements were compared with optoelectronic measurements (Vicon, USA), which are not affected by distortions as electromagnetic sensors are. Results showed that after 3 min of calibrating a volume of approximately 1m(3), the method proved to be efficient in correcting errors in orientation (56% (2.72-1.12 degrees ), 78% (4.4-0.89 degrees ), and 56% (2.25-0.90 degrees ) of error reduction in the respective flexion/extension, ab/adduction and tibial internal/external rotation) and position (53% (18.9-8.9 mm), 21% (6.6-4.6mm), and 48% (15.9-8.1mm) of error reduction in the respective medial/lateral, anterior/posterior and proximal/distal translations) (values are overall means for two subjects and four calibration procedures). That amount of correction compared favorably with values presented in the literature.  相似文献

Determinant factors influencing growth of Larix olgensis were screenced and interrelationships among topography soil and growth of L. olgensis were studied employing pathway analysis (PA), principal component analysis(PCA) and canonical analysis(CA). The research indicates that determinant factors are exposure soil texture, soil depth, and exposure is closely related to organic matter, soil texture, soil depth. Site classification was made by using a method of ecological forest site classification. 3 groups of site type and 14 main site types were devided for L. olgensis in the East part of Liaoning. Group of site type on shaded slope included 5 site types: thick, moderate silt loam and thick, moderate loam and thick clay loam. Group of site type on half-shaded and half-sunny slope included 6 site types: thick, moderate silt loam and thick, moderate loam and moderate sandy loam soil and thin soil. Background

An important use of data obtained from microarray measurements is the classification of tumor types with respect to genes that are either up or down regulated in specific cancer types. A number of algorithms have been proposed to obtain such classifications. These algorithms usually require parameter optimization to obtain accurate results depending on the type of data. Additionally, it is highly critical to find an optimal set of markers among those up or down regulated genes that can be clinically utilized to build assays for the diagnosis or to follow progression of specific cancer types. In this paper, we employ a mixed integer programming based classification algorithm named hyper-box enclosure method (HBE) for the classification of some cancer types with a minimal set of predictor genes. This optimization based method which is a user friendly and efficient classifier may allow the clinicians to diagnose and follow progression of certain cancer types.

Methodology/Principal Findings

We apply HBE algorithm to some well known data sets such as leukemia, prostate cancer, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), small round blue cell tumors (SRBCT) to find some predictor genes that can be utilized for diagnosis and prognosis in a robust manner with a high accuracy. Our approach does not require any modification or parameter optimization for each data set. Additionally, information gain attribute evaluator, relief attribute evaluator and correlation-based feature selection methods are employed for the gene selection. The results are compared with those from other studies and biological roles of selected genes in corresponding cancer type are described.

Conclusions/Significance

The performance of our algorithm overall was better than the other algorithms reported in the literature and classifiers found in WEKA data-mining package. Since it does not require a parameter optimization and it performs consistently very high prediction rate on different type of data sets, HBE method is an effective and consistent tool for cancer type prediction with a small number of gene markers.  相似文献

利用通径分析(PA)、主成分分析(PCA)、典范分析(CA),筛选影响长白落叶松(Larisolgensis)生长的主导因子和研究地形、土壤、林木三者相互关系。结果表明,坡向、土壤质地、土壤厚度是主导因子;坡向与土壤质地、土厚、土壤有机质密切相关。利用生态学的立地分类方法,将辽宁东部长白落叶松人工林划分为3个立地类型组,14个主要立地类型。阴坡立地类型组有厚层、中层粉砂壤土类型和厚层、中层壤质土类型以及厚层粘壤土类型;半阴、半阳坡立地类型组有厚层、中层粉砂壤土类型,厚层、中层壤质土类型,中层砂质土类型和薄层土立地类型;阳坡立地类型组有厚层、中层、薄层土立地类型。  相似文献

蛋白质折叠类型分类是蛋白质分类研究的重要内容。以SCOP数据库中的 PH domain-like barrel 折叠类型为研究对象,选择序列相似度小于25%的61个样本为检验集,通过结构特征分析,确定了该折叠类型的模板及其对应的特征参数,利用模板与待测蛋白的空间结构比对信息,提出了一个新的折叠类型打分函数Fscore,建立了基于Fscore的蛋白质折叠类型分类方法并用于该折叠类型的分类。用此方法对Astral1.75中序列相似度小于95%的16711个样本进行检验,分类结果的特异性为99.97%。结果表明:特征参数抓住了折叠类型的本质,打分函数Fscore及基于Fscore建立的分类方法可用于 PH domain-like barrel 蛋白质折叠类型自动分类。  相似文献
