The phylogeny of the family Sciaridae is reconstructed, based on maximum likelihood, maximum parsimony, and Bayesian analyses of 4809 bp from two mitochondrial (COI and 16S) and two nuclear (18S and 28S) genes for 100 taxa including the outgroup taxa. According to the present phylogenetic analyses, Sciaridae comprise three subfamilies and two genus groups: Sciarinae, Chaetosciara group, Cratyninae, and Pseudolycoriella group + Megalosphyinae. Our molecular results are largely congruent with one of the former hypotheses based on morphological data with respect to the monophyly of genera and subfamilies (Sciarinae, Megalosphyinae, and part of postulated “new subfamily”); however, the subfamily Cratyninae is shown to be polyphyletic, and the genera Bradysia, Corynoptera, Leptosciarella, Lycoriella, and Phytosciara are also recognized as non-monophyletic groups. While the ancestral larval habitat state of the family Sciaridae, based on Bayesian inference, is dead plant material (plant litter + rotten wood), the common ancestors of Phytosciara and Bradysia are inferred to living plants habitat. Therefore, shifts in larval habitats from dead plant material to living plants may have occurred within the Sciaridae at least once. Based on the results, we discuss phylogenetic relationships within the family, and present an evolutionary scenario of development of larval habitats. 相似文献

Experimental fishing with long-lines and gillnets was conducted on the continental shelf off southwestern Norway between 150 and 350 m depth. Abundance and distribution of redfish (Sebastes marinus L., 1758), ling (Molva molva L., 1758), and tusk (Brosme brosme Ascanius, 1772) were quantified in Lophelia pertusa (L., 1758) coral reefs and in non-coral habitats. The largest catches of redfish were made with long-line fleets set in coral reef habitats. Ling and tusk were also most numerous in coral habitats, although not statistically significant. Fish caught in coral habitats tended to be larger in size than in non-coral habitats. The diet of redfish, tusk and ling included the same prey groups in all habitats, but they differed at the species level. Lophelia-reefs may provide a profitable feeding place for tusk. For the planktivorous Sebastes, on the other hand, their affinity to the reefs seems primarily to be related to the physical structure offered by the reefs. 相似文献

Viewed by SEM and TEM, sagittocysts of Convoluta bifoveolata Mamkaev, 1971, and needles of C. sagittifera Ivanov, 1952, have the same structure. Both are capsule-form extrusomes containing a protrusible needle. Only seven similar species of convolutimorph acoels symbiotic with green algae and C. sagittifera, without algae, possess extrusomes of this peculiar and complicated type. The sagittocyst is a clear synapomorphy of all these species. A sacciform ciliated antrum lacking a seminal vesicle is also characteristic of these species and also of three Japanese species of green (algae-symbiotic) convolutimorph acoels lacking sagittocysts. We suggest schemes of the possible evolution of male and female copulatory organs to provide a basis for better using such organs as phylogenetic characters. We regard the formation of a ciliated sacciform antrum as an independent evolutionary trend. This conclusion forms the basis for establishing the separate family Sagittiferidae. Species of this family seem to have originated in the West Pacific. 相似文献

The ultrastructure of male copulatory organs having a stylet has been studied in some genera of the Proseriata.Within the Monocelididae there was a variety of stylet-like hard structures. The stylet in Monocelis fusca was a differentiation of the basement membrane of the epithelium lining a penis-like muscular papilla. The penis papilla in Ectocotyla consisted of circular muscles surrounded by a thickened basement membrane and an epithelium. Archilopsis sp. and Archilina sp. with a duplex copulatory bulb, had a stylet within a spiny cirrus. The stylet in Archilopsis sp. was a cylindrical muscular protrusion with a thickened basement lamina that lined the cirrus lumen. The stylet structure in Archilina sp. was composed of four long spines which were derivatives of the basement membrane. In Ectocotyla multitesticulata and Dupliminona corsicana, the accessory prostatoid organ was provided with a hook-shaped stylet that was differentiated in the basement membrane and of which the material was continuous with the fibrous matrix between the muscles of the prostatic bulb. The stylet and needles in the Archimonocelis species were intracellular differentiations. The copulatory organ in Carenscoilia biforamen consisted of a tubiform stylet and four needles, all of which were also intracellular specializations.I consider copulatory hard structures in the Turbellaria to be taxonomically significant in terms of structure, differentiation, and location (whether subcellular, in the basement membrane, or intracellular). 相似文献

We present a well-resolved, highly inclusive phylogeny for monocots, based on ndhF sequence variation, and use it to test a priori hypotheses that net venation and vertebrate-dispersed fleshy fruits should undergo concerted convergence, representing independent but often concurrent adaptations to shaded conditions. Our data demonstrate that net venation arose at least 26 times and was lost eight times over the past 90 million years; fleshy fruits arose at least 21 times and disappeared 11 times. Both traits show a highly significant pattern of concerted convergence (p<10(-9)), arising 16 times and disappearing four times in tandem. This phenomenon appears driven by even stronger tendencies for both traits to evolve in shade and be lost in open habitats (p<10(-13)-10(-29)). These patterns are among the strongest ever demonstrated for evolutionary convergence in individual traits and the predictability of evolution, and the strongest evidence yet uncovered for concerted convergence. The rate of adaptive shifts per taxon has declined exponentially over the past 90 million years, as expected when large-scale radiations fill adaptive zones. 相似文献

It is generally believed that only the nodulating species of the Leguminosae fix atmospheric nitrogen; however, anatomical, ecological and taxonomic considerations indicate that non-nodulating legume species may also fix nitrogen. To test whether nitrogen-fixing symbioses in the Leguminosae might extend to the non-nodulating species, a survey of the Leguminosae was conducted: living plants of non-nodulating species were assayed using acetylene reduction. Ethylene evolution, indicating apparent nitrogenase activity, was detected in non-nodulating species representing the major taxonomic groups of Caesalpinioideae as well as in non-nodulating species of the Papilionoideae and Mimosoideae. Non-nodules nitrogen fixation appears to have provided evolutionary precursors for the nodular symbiosis in the Leguminosae. 相似文献

Although attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been recognized as a disorder affecting individuals across the life cycle since the end of the nineties, there is still considerable debate on how to conceptualize the disorder in adults, and on the best way to operationalize diagnostic criteria for this age range. In this comprehensive non-systematic review of the literature, we provide data about prevalence and presentation of ADHD in adulthood as well as discuss major problems in applying criteria developed for children in assessing adults (clinical utility, threshold of symptoms for diagnosis, full ADHD diagnosis in childhood, information source, and additional dimensions for diagnosis-executive functioning impairment and emotional impulsivity). In addition, we provide some recommendations for improving ADHD diagnostic criteria in adulthood. 相似文献

The three major classes of intron are clearly of unequal antiquity. Structured (often self-splicing and sometimes mobile) introns are the most ancient, probably dating (at least for group I) from the ancestral (eubacterial) cell 3500 million years ago, and were originally restricted to tRNA. Protein-spliced introns (usually in tRNA) probably evolved from them by a radical change in splicing mechanism in the common ancestor of eukaryotes and archaebacteria, perhaps only about 1700 million years ago. Spliceosomal introns probably evolved from group-II-like self-splicing introns after the origin of the nucleus between 1700 and 1000 million years ago, and were probably mostly inserted into previously unsplit protein-coding genes after the origin of mitochondria 1000 million years ago. 相似文献

This review briefly summarizes the development of the receptor concept, the identification of receptors based first on biological response data and subsequently on radioligand binding properties, and the biological and physiological understandings that these approaches have made possible. The development of receptor characterization began with receptors that ultimately were discovered to mediate response by coupling to G-binding proteins, also known as G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Consequently, many if not all of the examples in this overview will describe studies characterizing GPCRs in general, and adrenergic receptors in particular. The purpose of this review, however, is not a detailed chronological account of a huge literature, but rather an overview of the fundamental questions posed and answered by these studies. 相似文献

A growing body of evidence indicates that Crustacea and Hexapoda are sister groups, rather than Hexapoda and Myriapoda. Some recent molecular data even suggest that Mandibulata is not monophyletic, with Myriapoda and Chelicerata instead being sister groups. Here, arguments for homology of the mandible throughout mandibulate arthropods and for a monophyletic Mandibulata will be presented, as well as arguments supporting the taxon Tetraconata (i.e. Crustacea + Hexapoda). The latter include molecular data (nuclear and mitochondrial ribosomal RNAs and protein coding genes), and morphological characters such as ommatidial structure, the presence of neuroblasts and a very similar axonogenesis of pioneer neurons. However, crustaceans are insufficiently sampled for the molecular data, and studies of neurogenesis are lacking for many crustacean taxa. Remipedia, Cephalocarida and Maxillopoda are particularly problematic. This is important for the entire problem, because monophyly of the Crustacea has not yet been proven beyond doubt and several molecular analyses suggest a paraphyletic Crustacea. Here, arguments for the monophyly of the Crustacea are reviewed and two alternatives for the relationships between the five higher taxa Remipedia, Cephalocarida, Maxillopoda, Branchiopoda and Malacostraca are discussed: the Entomostraca concept sensu Walossek with Malacostraca as sister group to Cephalocarida, Maxillopoda and Branchiopoda, and the Thoracopoda concept sensu Hessler with Cephalocarida, Branchiopoda and Malacostraca forming a monophylum. 相似文献

The study of parasite evolution relies on the identification of free-living sister taxa of parasitic lineages. Most lineages of parasitic helminths are characterized by an amazing diversity of species that complicates the resolution of phylogenetic relationships. Acanthocephalans offer a potential model system to test various long-standing hypotheses and generalizations regarding the evolution of parasitism in metazoans. The entirely parasitic Acanthocephala have a diversity of species that is manageable with regards to constructing global phylogenetic hypotheses, exhibit variation in hosts and habitats, and are hypothesized to have close phylogenetic affinities to the predominately free-living Rotifera. In this paper, I review and test previous hypotheses of acanthocephalan phylogenetic relationships with analyses of the available 18S rRNA sequence database. Maximum-parsimony and maximum-likelihood inferred trees differ significantly with regard to relationships among acanthocephalans and rotifers. Maximum-parsimony analysis results in a paraphyletic Rotifera, placing a long-branched bdelloid rotifer as the sister taxon of Acanthocephala. Maximum-likelihood analysis results in a monophyletic Rotifera. The difference between the two optimality criteria is attributed to long-branch attraction. The two analyses are congruent in terms of relationships within Acanthocephala. The three sampled classes are monophyletic, and the Archiacanthocephala is the sister taxon of a Palaeacanthocephala + Eoacanthocephala clade. The phylogenetic hypothesis is used to assess the evolution of host and habitat preferences. Acanthocephalan lineages have exhibited multiple radiations into terrestrial habitats and bird and mammal definitive hosts from ancestral aquatic habitats and fish definitive hosts, while exhibiting phylogenetic conservatism in the type of arthropod intermediate host utilized. 相似文献

Comparative studies of genital anatomy and sexual behaviour in male primates show that penile morphology and copulatory patterns tend to be more specialized in species which have a multimale or dispersed (non-gregarious) mating system. The penis may be longer and more complex morphologically in such species. Copulatory patterns involving a series of intromissions or prolonged single intromissions are more common than in species with a monogamous or polygynous mating system. Elongation of the baculum occurs in species which prolong intromission into the post-ejaculatory period. Sexual selection may have favoured the evolution of such features in species where females mate with a number of males rather than with a single partner. Relative testis size is also greatest under such conditions and larger testes occur in some non-gregarious or seasonally breeding prosimians, as well as in anthropoids with multimale mating systems. 相似文献

A new method has been devised to compare the ontogeny and phylogeny of some of the better documented tetrapods from the Stephanian to the Trias. This approach is based on global parsimony analysis of several temnospondyl amphibians, in which some ontogenetic sequences have been highlighted. Forty-one homologous morphoanatomical character states have been separated into larval, juvenile and adult stages of each of six tetrapod species. The taxonomic congruence (TC) approach involves comparing trees based on larval, juvenile and adult character states. These so-called 'ontotrees' are not congruent, either in their topologies or in the distribution of the character states. The total evidence (TE) approach involves a combined analysis of all the character states observed in the various growth stages of the taxa, and is secondarily used in order to test this taxonomic incongruence. In this case, the TE result corroborates the TC analysis: the TE tree is robust and reveals a few homoplasies which cause the taxonomic incongruence. This is interpreted as either the result of heterochronic events in temnospondyl evolution, or as the product of inaccurate identification of larval and metamorphic fossil forms. 相似文献

Abstract Molecular sequence data have become prominent tools for phylogenetic relationship inference, particularly useful in the analysis of highly diverse taxonomic orders. Ribosomal RNA sequences provide markers that can be used in the study of phylogeny, because their function and structure have been conserved to a large extent throughout the evolutionary history of organisms. These sequences are inferred from cloned or enzymatically amplified gene sequences, or determined by direct RNA sequencing. The first step of the phylogenetic interpretation of nucleic acid sequence variations implies proper alignment of corresponding sequences from various organisms. Best alignment based on similarity criteria is greatly reinforced, in the case of ribosomal RNAs, by secondary structure homologies. Distance matrix methods to infer evolutionary trees are based on the assumption that the phylogenetic distance between each pair of organisms is proportional to the number of nucleotide substitution events. Computed tree inference methods usually take into consideration the possibility of unequal mutation rates among lineages. Divergence times can be estimated on the tree, provided that at least one lineage has been dated by fossil records. We have utilized this approach based on ribosomal RNA sequence comparison to investigate the phylogenetic relationship between dinoflagellated and other eukaryote protists, and to refine controverse phylogenies of the class Dinophycae. 相似文献
