The genus Eodiaptomus Kiefer contains six species, five of which are distributed in Asia, and one in Australia and New Guinea. A seventh species, E. sanuamuangae n.sp., is now added from Thailand. It has hitherto been misidentified as E. sinensis (Burckhardt), but can be recognized by various morphologic criteria. In the female, both spines on either wing of the fifth pediger are laterally placed. The third endopodite-segment of P2–P4 has seven, instead of six, setae. The sensory seta on the basis of P5 is extraordinarily long. On the male right antennule, the spine on segment 8 is much reduced, whereas that on segment 15 is relatively strong; the spinous process on the antepenultimate segment is slender, straight, with a hooked tip and as long as the next segment. Morphologically and geographically, E. sanuamuangae n.sp. links the Asian to the Australian forms. The Australian E. lumholtzi (Sars) is redescribed. A detailed morphological comparison is made of all Eodiaptomus spp. Their taxonomic characters, interspecies relationship, and biogeography are discussed.  相似文献

Two new species of the shore-fly genus Psilephydra Hendel, 1914, Ps. montanasp. n. and Ps. rupicolasp. n., are described from Nepal (environs of Dhunche). Both species were found in the same habitat and were captured on moist cliffs in the mountains at the elevation of 2040 m a. s. l. Individuals of Ps. montana are easily differentiated from those of the other Psilephydra species by the presence of facial setae and by a characteristic shape of the gonite. Individuals of Ps. rupicola differ in a high gena, acinaciform gonite, and in the presence of 6 spines on the posteroventral surface of the fore femur. A key to the species of the genus Psilephydra is composed.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. A trypanosomatid flagellate was isolated from the musciod fly Muscina stabulans (Fallén). Cloned cultures of this organism contained promastigotes, opisthomastigotes, and froms containing a long flagellum doubled or coiled within the cell but not protruding outside. These latter forms we are designating endomastigotes. The presence of these hitherto underscribed endomastigotes along with other morphologic and growth characteristics suggest that this is a new species for which the name Herpetomonas mariadeanei is proposed.  相似文献

Pseudocleonus (Phryganocleonus) kratkyi sp. n. is described from Afghanistan. Some remarks on the taxonomy of the subgenus Phryganocleonus are given, with a key to the species. Lectotypes of Pseudocleonus guldarensis Arnol’di, Ps. iskanderi Arnol’di, and Ps. tadzhika Arnol’di are designated. Hypotheses on the historical biogeographical events that may have caused species differentiation are proposed.  相似文献

We combined morphological and combined ITS, TUB and TEF sequence data to infer the phylogeny of the recently introduced genus Pseudopestalotiopsis. Two new species from China, Ps. camelliae from blighted leaves of Camellia sinensis and Ps. ignota from an undetermined host in China, are introduced with illustrated accounts and compared with similar taxa. Grey blight disease of tea appears to be caused by a group of fungi that constitutes a species complex. A new combination is proposed to emend the monophyly of Pseudopestalotiopsis and a species comparison is provided for taxa in the genus.  相似文献

Two new gregarines in the recently erected genus Psychodiella (formerly Ascogregarina), Psychodiella sergenti n. sp. and Psychodiella tobbi n. sp., are described based on morphology and life cycle observations conducted on larvae and adults of their natural hosts, the sand flies Phlebotomus sergenti and Phlebotomus tobbi, respectively. The phylogenetic analyses inferred from small subunit ribosomal DNA (SSU rDNA) sequences indicate the monophyly of newly described species with Psychodiella chagasi. Ps. sergenti n. sp. and Ps. tobbi n. sp. significantly differ from each other in the life cycle and in the size of life stages. The sexual development of Ps. sergenti n. sp. (syzygy, formation of gametocysts and oocysts) takes place exclusively in blood-fed Ph. sergenti females, while the sexual development of Ps. tobbi n. sp. takes place also in males and unfed females of Ph. tobbi. The susceptibility of Phlebotomus perniciosus, Phlebotomus papatasi, Ph. sergenti, Ph. tobbi, and Phlebotomus arabicus to both gregarines was examined by exposing 1st instar larvae to parasite oocysts. High host specificity was observed, as both gregarines were able to fully develop and complete regularly the life cycle only in their natural hosts. Both gregarines are considered as serious pathogens in laboratory-reared colonies of Old World sand flies.  相似文献

S ummary : A group of 23 phages, mainly isolated with Pseudomonas mors-prunorum and Ps. syringae as the propagating strains, was tested against more than 200 pseudomonads including named plant pathogens and a variety of saprophytes. The majority of the phages had a wide host range, and did not distinguish between plant pathogens and saprophytes, thus confirming the close relationship between these two groups. The most reactive bacteria were 60 English isolates of Ps. mors-prunorum , 48 from cherry and 12 from plum, and 28 isolates of Ps. syringae from pear. Patterns of reaction within these 3 groups were relatively homogeneous and each group was distinct and differed from all other isolates tested. Ps. syringae isolates from other hosts were less uniform and occasionally shared reaction patterns with other species, e.g. Ps. cannabina and Ps. glycinea. Similar relationships were observed with phages at both high titre and at routine test dilution including the difference in phage sensitivity between the cherry and plum strains of Ps. mors-prunorum. On the basis of 7 biochemical tests the plum and cherry strains were indistinguishable but they differed from all Ps. syringae isolates tested by giving white growth in 5% sucrose broth and in failing to liquefy gelatin. Furthermore, unlike most Ps. syringae isolates they were also unable to hydrolyze aesculin and were tyrosinase positive. There was no clear evidence in this investigation of correlation between phage sensitivity and biochemical activity. Eleven isolates from various European countries, designated Ps. mors-prunorum , differed widely both in phage sensitivity and biochemical activity and some of them may be more appropriately called Ps. syringae. Others may be intermediate forms between these species. The relationship between Ps. mors-prunorum and Ps. syringae and the nomenclature of these organisms are discussed and a concept of ecotypes suggested as a substitute for species.  相似文献

S ummary . Bacteria were isolated from raw and pasteurized milks produced throughout S. E. Queensland. Milk samples were plated initially on penicillin agar or on milk agar and incubated at 30° and 7°, respectively. On the basis of primary characterization, 167 of the 330 isolates obtained were identified as Pseudomonas spp. The pseudomonads were further characterized in accordance with the taxonomic studies of the genus by Stanier, Palleroni & Doudoroff (1966). Species designations were ascribed to the Pseudomonas isolates on the basis of distinctive species characteristics in conjunction with similarity coefficients between each isolate and the ideal species phenotype, as follows: Ps. fluorescens (121), Ps. aeruginosa (16), Ps. putida (12), Ps. maltophilia (9), Ps. pseudoalcaligenes (5), Ps. cepacia (3) and Ps. alcaligenes (1). A dendrogram obtained by cluster analysis of the Pseudomonas isolates is included.  相似文献

Laboratory experiments and field data were used to determine salinity tolerance limits of three ostracode species (Prionocypris aragonica, Eucypris mareotica and Heterocypris barbara) from Iberian saline lakes. Salinity tolerance appeared related to ionic composition and temperature. Implications for ostracode ecology and geographical distribution are evaluated.  相似文献

In spite of the self-cleaning property of its leaves called the lotus effect, leaves of lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) provide a habitat for an unknown fungal diversity. The aim of this study was to detect and identify fungi from leaves of N. nucifera, including ectophytic, parasitic and endophytic fungi, in Taiwan using different collection strategies, as well as morphological and diverse molecular markers established in the different systematic groups of fungi. Among ectophytic and parasitic fungi, a new species of Dissoconium and of Pseudocercospora are described, respectively. Phyllosticta nelumbonis Sawada is transferred to Diaporthe. Among plant parasitic fungi, Erysiphe takamatsui and Ps. nymphaeacea are recorded in Taiwan for the first time. Euryale is recorded as a new host genus for Ps. nymphaeacea. The basidiomycetous yeast Fereydounia khargensis is recorded for the first time from living plants and in East Asia. Endophytic fungi from lotus were studied for the first time. From 1002 plant segments, 476 endophytic isolates were produced in culture, comprising 33 typical terrestrial species mainly belonging to the genera Colletotrichum (mainly C. siamense), Diaporthe (D. tulliensis and D. ueckerae) and Fusarium (F. solani species 6, hitherto known from clinical samples), as well as to Xylariaceae, but no Ingoldian fungi. Most isolates were from leaf laminas (71%) compared to those from petioles (29%). From this observation, we conclude that the fungi of the aquatic lotus plant appear to have terrestrial origin and, after dispersal by wind and in spite of the lotus effect, may enter the plant from the lamina. Only three species isolated as endophytes were also found as ectophytic or parasitic fungi.  相似文献

Four species of Adlerius phlebotomine sandflies have been recorded in China, namely: P. chinensis Newstead, 1916 (Pc), P. fengi Leng & Zhang, 1994; P. longiductus Parrot, 1928 and P. sichuanensis Leng & Yin, 1983 (Ps). Adlerius phlebotomies are the main vectors of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in China; three of them are acknowledged as VL vectors and P. fengi is considered a potential VL vector for southwestern mountainous region. Different opinion has been raised to the validity of identity of Ps by some investigators from Shanghai and Shanxi who consider Ps to be a large type of Pc instead of an isolate species. The center of controversy is whether Ps is an isolate taxon or a large type of Pc. The present authors have carried out a series of comparative studies for these two flies on: 1 quantitative and qualitative morphological characters of four Chinese Adlerius phlebotomies; and 2. differences in geographical distribution. All specimens of Pc and Ps used in the present study are collected where their holotypes-paratypes were produced--West Mountain, West Suburb, Beijing and Lixian County, Sichuan Province. The results have forcefully proved that Ps is an isolate species instead of a so-called large type Pc according to the concept of species. The clarification of their taxonomical identities is meaningful because both of them are VL vectors in different epidemic areas in China; especially Ps is an important VL vector in high mountainous regions of southwestern China and some extend to the Loess Plateau of northwestern China, where VL still exists and it is also the first Phlebotomine sandfly discovered in Tibet, the locality being near Assam in India (Leng et al. 1990).  相似文献

Cuticular hydrocarbons (HCs) play important roles in insect communication but few studies clearly demonstrate the direct link between HCs and nestmate recognition. Therefore, cuticular lipids were extracted from ants, their HC and non-HC fractions as well as the three principal classes of HCs (n-alkanes, branched alkanes and alkenes) were purified and tested using an immobilizing "joust" device which allowed quantification of early pairwise behavioural responses, mandibular opening and antennal retraction, without occurrence of subsequent damages as in classic dyadic encounters. Chemical recognition of ants was studied at three levels of interactions (intra-colonial, intra-specific and inter-specific). Three closely related species already chemically characterized were used: Pachycondyla villosa (Pv), P. inversa (Pi) and P. subversa (Ps). Each species had its own behavioural responses. Moreover, responses of Pi and Ps towards Pv were significantly longer, than they were between themselves whereas Pv ants were equally aggressive towards Pi and Ps. These differences are in agreement with the results of the cluster analysis of the cuticular HCs profiles that place Pi closer to Ps. In support of the idea that components of cuticular lipids profiles are important for recognition, we found that only the HC fraction and its branched subfraction elicited a behavioural response of Ps workers. It is suggested that internally branched methyl- and dimethylalkanes are involved in recognition behaviour.  相似文献

The morphologic, ultrastructural and genotypic characteristics of Babesia duncani n.sp. are described based on the characterization of two isolates (WA1, CA5) obtained from infected human patients in Washington and California. The intraerythrocytic stages of the parasite are morphologically indistinguishable from Babesia microti, which is the most commonly identified cause of human babesiosis in the USA. Intraerythrocytic trophozoites of B. duncani n.sp. are round to oval, with some piriform, ring and ameboid forms. Division occurs by intraerythrocytic schizogony, which results in the formation of merozoites in tetrads (syn. Maltese cross or quadruplet forms). The ultrastructural features of trophozoites and merozoites are similar to those described for B. microti and Theileria spp. However, intralymphocytic schizont stages characteristic of Theileria spp. have not been observed in infected humans. In phylogenetic analyses based on sequence data for the complete18S ribosomal RNA gene, B. duncani n.sp. lies in a distinct clade that includes isolates from humans, dogs and wildlife in the western United States but separate from Babesia sensu stricto, Theileria spp. and B. microti. ITS2 sequence analysis of the B. duncani n.sp. isolates (WA1, CA5) show that they are phylogenetically indistinguishable from each other and from two other human B. duncani-type parasites (CA6, WA2 clone1) but distinct from other Babesia and Theileria species sequenced. This analysis provides robust molecular support that the B. duncani n.sp. isolates are monophyletic and the same species. The morphologic characteristics together with the phylogenetic analysis of two genetic loci support the assertion that B. duncani n.sp. is a distinct species from other known Babesia spp. for which morphologic and sequence information are available.  相似文献

Pestalotiopsis-like species are phytopathogenic, causing numerous diseases on different hosts, and are widely distributed in tropical and temperate ecosystems. These taxa were recently segregated into several genera and species having brown to dark brown or olivaceous median cells, with or without knobbed apical appendages, were classified under the new genus Pseudopestalotiopsis. Pseudopestalotiopsis species are well known for their capability to produce novel medicinal compounds that may have medicinal, agricultural and industrial applications. Ixora is among the largest genera in the family Rubiaceae and is cultivated throughout Taiwan, as a garden plant. During a survey of fungal diseases associated with Ixora species in Taiwan, several Pestalotiopsis-like species causing leaf spot were isolated. Based on morphology coupled with single- and multi-gene (ITS, TUB, TEF) phylogenies, these taxa belong to two novel species of Pseudopestalotiopsis and are introduced herein as Ps. ixorae and Ps. taiwanensis. These two new taxa fit well with Pseudopestalotiopsis in having dark concolourous median cells with knobbed apical appendages, but differ from the known species in the size of conidiomata, size of the conidia, the number of apical appendages, the length of basal appendages plus ecology and distribution. Pathogenicity testing showed that Ps. ixorae and Ps. taiwanensis are capable of causing leaf disease on Ixora and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first record of Pseudopestalotiopsis species associated with leaf spots of Ixora in Taiwan.  相似文献

Genomic DNA fragments from males of Psychodopygus wellcomei were isolated and shown to be useful as sensitive diagnostic probes for positively separating individuals of this species from those of Ps. complexus. These two members of the Ps. squamiventris series are found sympatrically in foci of cutaneous leishmaniasis in the hill forests of southern Pará State. Of the two species, only Ps. wellcomei is thought to be an important vector of Leishmania braziliensis sensu stricto, but this is based on circumstantial evidence because of the difficulties of identifying female sandflies within the series. The diagnostic probes were isolated from a library of Ps. wellcomei built by ligating short fragments of Sau 3A-restricted, genomic DNA into the plasmid vector pUC 18. Differential screening of 1316.library clones with total genomic DNA of Ps. wellcomei and Ps. complexus identified 5 recombinants, with cross-hybridizing inserts of repetitive DNA, that showed strong specificity for Ps. wellcomei. As little as 0.4% of the DNA extracted from an individual sandfly (= ca. 0.5 nanograms) was specifically detected. The diagnostic probes were used to identify as Ps. wellcomei a wild-caught female sandfly found infected with L. braziliensis s.s., providing only the second positive association between these two species.  相似文献

The genomic constitution of two species in the genus Psammopyrum, i.e., Ps. athericum (2n = 6x = 42) and Ps. pungens (2n = 8x = 56), was studied by genomic in situ hybridization (GISH). In Ps. athericum, one diploid chromosome set hybridized to a genomic probe from Pseudoroegneria ferganensis (St genome), one diploid set to a probe from Agropyron cristatum (P genome), and one diploid set to a probe from Thinopyrum junceiforme (EbEe genomes) or Th. bessarabicum (Eb genome). Substituting the St-genome probe with an L-genome probe from Festucopsis serpentinii resulted in exactly the same hybridization pattern, suggesting a genomic constitution of EStP or ELP for Ps. athericum. The same probes used on Ps. pungens showed two diploid sets of chromosomes hybridizing to the St-genome probe, one diploid set hybridizing to the P-genome probe, and one diploid set hybridizing to the EbEe-genome probe. The L-genome probe hybridized to approximately 14 of the chromosomes that were labeled by the St-genome probe. Hence the genomic constitution for Ps. pungens is proposed to be EStStP or EStLP.  相似文献
