To understand the evolution of clonal reproduction and the diversity of clonal plants, it is necessary to clarify the characteristics of each clonal habit. There has been little research on whether bulbils alter spatial genetic structure (SGS) because of the lack of connection to maternal ramets. We used simple-sequence-repeat (SSR) markers to determine the fine-scale SGS of the dioecious plant Dioscorea japonica, which disperses both as bulbils and as seeds. We also evaluated the contributions of sexual and clonal reproduction and tested for spatial sex segregation (SSS). We discovered 111 genets from 394 ramets in a 2.8-ha plot. Genotypic richness (R = 0.28) and clonal diversity (Simpson’s D = 0.94, Fager’s E = 0.90) were high. We did not find SSS, suggesting that the population does not suffer from a shortage of mating pairs due to clonal reproduction. The Sp values revealed moderate SGS at the genet level (Sp = 0.013–0.014), and the genets intermingled at a local scale. Significant SGS at the ramet level showed that ramets within the same genet tended to aggregate. We also found a skewed clonal spatial distribution. The spatial extent of genets was positively correlated with the number of ramets within a genet. The contribution of bulbil production to the variance of parent–offspring gene dispersal was about one–fifth the contribution from sexual reproduction. These results suggest that the dispersal via bulbils affects the SGS in D. japonica, although its contribution to gene dispersal is small compared to the contribution of sexual reproduction.  相似文献

Gene dispersal and clonality are important aspects of plant evolution affecting the spatial genetic structure (SGS) and the long‐term survival of species. In the tropics these parameters have mostly been investigated in trees and some herbs, but rarely in climbers which frequently: (1) show clonal growth leading to a patchy distribution pattern similar to that of understory herbs; and (2) flower in the canopy where they may have access to long‐distance dispersal like canopy trees. We thus hypothesize for climbers an intermediate genetic structure between herbs and trees. The study aims at assessing breeding system and spatial extent of clonality and gene dispersal in Haumania danckelmaniana (Marantaceae), a common climber in the tropical rain forests from western Central Africa. In eastern Cameroon, 330 ramets were sampled at three spatial scales and genotyped at seven microsatellite loci. Clonality was moderate (clonal extend: 15–25 m, clonal diversity 0.4–0.65) indicating the importance of recruitment from seeds at this locality. The low inbreeding (FIS) suggested predominant outcrossing. The rate of decay of the relatedness between individuals with distance indicated limited gene dispersal distance (σ= 9–50 m, neighborhood sizes Nb = 23–67) in accordance with narrowly gravity dispersed seeds and restricted pollen transfer distance in densely flowering populations. The marked SGS (Sp = 0.011–0.026) was similar to that reported in tropical trees, but might increase with augmented clonality as in many herbs, especially under more severe disturbance regimes.

The spatial distribution patterns of genets and ramets within populations are expected to change as a function of the frequency with which clonal species recruit different types of offspring (sexual and clonal). We used an integrated approach to study the spatial arrangement of clonal plants by combining molecular and ecological data using Opuntia microdasys as a study system. The species is able to produce two types of clonal (plantlets and cladodes) and one type of sexual (seeds) offspring. Additionally it is found in three habitats that cause differences in the ability of each type of offspring to establish. In 2007, all individuals in the three habitats (162 in BH = bajada, 264 in IDH = hill-piedmont, and 136 at HPH = interdunes) were tagged and mapped. Amplified inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSR’s) were used to determine the multilocus genotype and relatedness of each individual ramet using 120 polymorphic bands (104 in BH, 128 in HPH and 180 in IDH). The spatial distribution pattern of genets and ramets was analyzed with the Hopkins test and spatial autocorrelation analysis. For all habitats we found that O. microdasys displayed a spatial distribution characterized by clumps of aggregated ramets, but habitats differed in the number of genets present. As for other clonal species a strong positive spatial autocorrelation exists within 20 m, although all analyses suggest that adjacent ramets are genetically less related to each other or belong to different genets, that is, ramets of different genets are intermingled. The spatial arrangement of genets and ramets in O. microdasys between habitats closely matches the frequency of establishment of each type of offspring (e.g. the more clonal areas are clumped groups of related individuals). These results confirm that in two habitats (BH and IDH) clonal recruitment had been more common than in the other habitat (HPH).  相似文献

We investigated pollen dispersal and breeding structure in the tropical tree species Caryocar brasiliense Camb. (Caryocaraceae), using genetic data from ten microsatellite loci. All adult trees (101) within a patch of 8.3 ha were sampled, and from these adults 18 open-pollinated maternal progeny arrays were analyzed (280 seeds from 265 fruits). Most fruits presented only one seed (median equal to 1.000) and mean number of ripened seeds per fruit was 1.053 (SD = 0.828). Our results showed that C. brasiliense presents a mixed-mating system, with 11.4% of self-pollination, multilocus outcrossing rate of t m = 0.891 ± 0.025, and high probability of full-sibship within progeny arrays (r p = 0.135 ± 0.032). Outcrossing rate and self-pollination varied significantly among mother trees. We could detect a maximum pollen dispersal distance of ∼500 m and a mean pollen dispersal distance of ∼132 m. However, most pollination events (80%) occurred at distances less than 200 m. Our results also indicated that pollen dispersal is restricted to a neighborhood of 5.4 ha with rare events of immigration (∼1% N e m = 0.35). C. brasiliense also presents a significant but weak spatial genetic structure (Sp = 0.0116), and extension of pollen dispersal distance was greater than seed dispersal (N b = 86.20 m). These results are most likely due to the foraging behavior of pollinators that may have limited flight range. The highly within-population synchronous flowering, high population density, and clumped distribution reinforce pollinator behavior and affect residence time leading to a short-distance pollen dispersal.  相似文献

The culture of green mussel (Perna viridis) in the Gulf of Thailand depends on natural spat which are believed to come from spawning grounds adjacent to major river mouths. In the present paper, genetic diversity of spatial and temporal populations of green mussel in the Gulf of Thailand was investigated using five microsatellite loci. The results showed moderate genetic variation of all 11 populations (averaged number of alleles per locus, A = 10.4–12.2; effective number of alleles per locus, A e = 5.36–6.59; mean allelic richness, A r = 10.23–12.06; observed heterozygosity, H o = 0.52–0.63, and expected heterozygosity, H e = 0.66–0.73) without significant differences among populations. No sign of bottleneck or genetic disequilibrium was observed. Genetic differentiation among spatial populations was low (F ST = 0.0046, CI0.95 = 0.0020–0.0083 for the samples collected in January, 2007, and F ST = 0.0088, CI0.95 = 0.0010–0.0162 for the samples collected in July, 2007) while temporal variation was significant as revealed by the analysis of molecular variance. Multidimensional scaling separated temporal population groups with minor exception. The assignment test revealed that most of the recruits were from other populations.  相似文献

Clonal propagation becomes more abundant with increasing altitudes as environmental conditions worsen. To date, little attention has been paid to the way in which clonal propagation affects genetic diversity and the fine‐scale spatial genetic structure (FSGS) of clonal alpine trees. An AFLP study was undertaken to quantify the clonal and genetic diversity and FSGS of the vulnerable treeline species Polylepis reticulata in Ecuador. We successfully genotyped 32 and 75 ramets within 4 m × 100 m (coarse scale) and 4 m × 4 m (fine scale) transects of one population, respectively. Higher genotypic diversity was detected at the coarse scale than at the fine scale, while lower genetic diversity was detected for P. reticulata than other Polylepis spp. at both scales. Significantly stronger FSGS was detected at the ramet level than the genet level for P. reticulata within a spatial distance of 3 m. The studied P. reticulata population showed pronounced FSGS (Sp = 0.012 at the genet level, a statistic reflecting declining pairwise kinship with distance) revealed restricted gene dispersal, which implies restricted seed dispersal for this population, assuming pollen flow is as extensive as that described for other wind‐pollinated tree species. Our results revealed that clonal diversity is a function of both sample size and the spatial scale of the sampling area. The findings highlights that clonal propagation has affected FSGS within a spatial distance of 3 m for this species.  相似文献

Insights into the within-population spatial-genetic structure (SGS) of forest tree species, where little is known regarding seed and pollen dispersal patterns, enhance understanding of their ecology and provide information of value in conservation and breeding. This study utilised 13 polymorphic simple sequence repeat loci to investigate the impact of asexual recruitment, management regime and tree size on the development of SGS in wild cherry (Prunus avium L). Only 246 genotypes were identified in the 551 trees sampled, reflecting significant levels of clonal reproduction in both managed and unmanaged populations. Naturally regenerated wild cherry was spatially aggregated under both management regimes. However, in the managed population, sexually derived trees accounted for a greater proportion of the smaller size classes, whereas vegetatively produced trees dominated the smaller size classes in the unmanaged population. High overall SGS values (Sp 0.030-Sp 0.045) were observed when considering only sexually derived genets and kinship coefficients were significant up to the 120 m distance class for both populations. The inclusion of clonal ramets in the analysis significantly increased the overall SGS (Sp 0.089-Sp 0.119) as well as kinship coefficients in the 40-80 m distance classes, illustrating the dramatic impact of vegetative propagation on SGS in this species. Increased spatial aggregation and regeneration appeared to be concomitant with increased SGS in the 40 m distance class in the unmanaged population. Neighbourhood size estimates were relatively small for both populations and kinship coefficients were found to decline with distance under both management regimes, suggesting that common mechanisms may restrict gene dispersal in wild cherry.  相似文献

To evaluate how the land carbon reservoir has been responding to the rising CO2 concentration of the atmosphere, it is important to study how plants in natural forests adjust physiologically to the changing atmospheric conditions. Many experimental studies have addressed this issue, but it has been difficult to scale short-term experimental observations to long-term ecosystem-level responses. This paper derives carbon-isotope-related variables for the past 100–200 years from measurements on trees from natural forests. Calculations show that the c i/c a ratios [c i/c a is the ratio of the CO2 concentration (μmol mol−1) in the intercellular space of leaves to that in the atmosphere] of the trees were constant or increased slightly before the 20th century, but changed more rapidly in the 20th century; some increased, some decreased, and some stayed constant. In contrast, the CO2 concentration inside plant leaves increased monotonically for all trees. Received: 12 June 1997 / Accepted: 29 June 1998  相似文献

We examined the effects of climate and allocation patterns on stem respiration in ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) growing on identical substrate in the cool, moist Sierra Nevada mountains and the warm, dry, Great Basin Desert. These environments are representative of current climatic conditions and those predicted to accompany a doubling of atmospheric CO2, respectively, throughout the range of many western north American conifers. A previous study found that trees growing in the desert allocate proportionally more biomass to sapwood and less to leaf area than montane trees. We tested the hypothesis that respiration rates of sapwood are lower in desert trees than in montane trees due to reduced stem maintenance respiration (physiological acclimation) or reduced construction cost of stem tissue (structural acclimation). Maintenance respiration per unit sapwood volume at 15°C did not differ between populations (desert: 6.39 ± 1.14 SE μmol m−3 s−1, montane: 6.54 ± 1.13 SE μmol m−3 s−1, P = 0.71) and declined with increasing stem diameter (P = 0.001). The temperature coefficient of respiration (Q 10) varied seasonally within both environments (P = 0.05). Construction cost of stem sapwood was the same in both environments (desert: 1.46 ± 0.009 SE g glucose g−1 sapwood, montane: 1.48 ± 0.009 SE glucose g−1 sapwood, P = 0.14). Annual construction respiration calculated from construction cost, percent carbon and relative growth rate was greater in montane populations due to higher growth rates. These data provide no evidence of respiratory acclimation by desert trees. Estimated yearly stem maintenance respiration was greater in large desert trees than in large montane trees because of higher temperatures in the desert and because of increased allocation of biomass to sapwood. By analogy, these data suggest that under predicted increases in temperature and aridity, potential increases in aboveground carbon gain due to enhanced photosynthetic rates may be partially offset by increases in maintenance respiration in large trees growing in CO2-enriched atmospheres. The purpose of the present study was to determine the separate and combined effects of a short-term aerobic training program and hypohydration on tolerance during light exercise while wearing nuclear, biological, and chemical protective clothing in the heat (40°C, 30% relative humidity). Males of moderate fitness [<50 ml · kg−1 · min−1 maximal O2 consumption (O2 max )] were tested while euhydrated or hypohydrated by ≈2% of body weight through exercise and fluid restriction the day preceding the trials. Tests were conducted before and after either a 2-week program of daily aerobic training (1 h treadmill exercise at 65% O2 max for 12 days; n = 8) or a control period (n = 7), which had no effect on any measured variable. The training increased O2 max by 6.5%, while heart rate (f c) and the rectal temperature (T re) rise decreased during exercise in a thermoneutral environment. In the heat, training resulted in a decreased skin temperature and increased sweat rate, but did not affect f c, T re or tolerance time (TT). In both training and control groups, hypohydration significantly increased T re and f c and decreased the TT. It was concluded that the short-term aerobic training program had no benefit on exercise-heat tolerance in this uncompensable heat stress environment. Accepted: 12 November 1997  相似文献

Several studies have found the photosynthetic integration in clonal plants to response to resource heterogeneity, while little is known how it responses to heterogeneity of UV-B radiation. In this study, the effects of heterogeneous UV-B radiation (280–315 nm) on gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence of a clonal plant Trifolium repens were evaluated. Pairs of connected and severed ramets of the stoloniferous herb T. repens were grown under the homogeneity (both of ramets received only natural background radiation, ca. 0.6 kJ m−2 d−1) and heterogeneity of UV-B radiation (one of the ramet received only natural background radiation and the other was exposed to supplemental UV-B radiation, 2.54 kJ m−2 d−1) for seven days. Stomatal conductance (g s), intercellular CO2 concentration (C i) and transpiration rate (E) showed no significant differences in connected and severed ramets under homogenous and heterogeneous UV-B radiation, however, net photosynthetic rate (P N) and maximum photosynthetic rate (P max) of ramets suffered from supplemental increased UV-B radiation and that of its connected sister ramet decreased significantly. Moreover, additive UV-B radiation resulted in a notable decrease of the minimal fluorescence of dark-adapted state (Fo), the electron transport rate (ETR) and photochemical quenching coefficient (qP) and an increase of nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ) under supplemental UV-B radiation, while physiological connection reverse the results. In all, UV-B stressed ramets could benefit from unstressed ramets by physiological integration in photosynthetic efficiency, and clonal plants are able to optimize the efficiency to maintain their presence in less favourable sites.  相似文献

Willows of the Salix albaSalix fragilis complex, native to western Eurasia, represent typical invaders of floodplain ecosystems worldwide. Introduced to South America by European settlers probably at the end of the nineteenth century, their distribution has increased significantly along the rivers in Northern Patagonia. This case study carried out mainly in the area around Lake Nahuel Huapi aims to analyze clonal structures and their spatial distribution using molecular markers as well as to relate the observed patterns to settlement history and life history traits of this species complex. Leaf material from 171 trees was collected along selected river floodplains in Northern Patagonia and genotypes were determined at six microsatellite loci. Including 62 reference samples of the S. albaS. fragilis complex from German rivers, Probability of Identity (P ID) was calculated and a Principal Coordinate Analysis (PCoA) conducted. From the altogether thirteen different genotypes detected, one dominant genotype (female) formed monoclonal stands along most of the studied river stretches. The maximum linear distance between the most remote ramets of this clone was 790 km. Evidence arose that the colonizing process so far is exclusively based on vegetative propagation in the focal study area and is obviously attributable to the pronounced brittleness of the hybrid parent S. fragilis. However, outside this area the occurrence of male trees and a diversity of genotypes indicate that evolutionary processes by recombination are involved within the willow complex. Therefore, an increase in genotypes can be assumed when male individuals and therefore sexual reproduction would appear in the area around Lake Nuhuel Huapi. This could be a crucial point for the long-term invasion success of the taxa when climatic and other environmental conditions will change in Southern Argentina.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the alterations in serum heat shock protein (Hsp) 70 levels during a 15-consecutive-day intermittent heat–exercise protocol in a 29-year-old male ultra marathon runner. Heat acclimation, for the purpose of physical activities in elevated ambient temperatures, has numerous physiological benefits including mechanisms such as improved cardiac output, increased plasma volume and a decreased core temperature (T c). In addition to the central adaptations, the role of Hsp during heat acclimation has received an increasing amount of attention. The acclimation protocol applied was designed to correspond with the athlete’s tapering period for the 2007 Marathon Des Sables. The subject (VO2max = 50.7 ml·kg−1·min−1, peak power output [PPO] = 376 W) cycled daily for 90 min at a workload corresponding to 50% of VO2max in a temperature-controlled room (average WBGT = 31.9 ± 0.9°C). Venous blood was sampled before and after each session for measurement of serum osmolality and serum Hsp70. In addition, T c, heart rate (HR) and power output (PO) was measured throughout the 90 min to ensure that heat acclimation was achieved during the 15-day period. The results show that the subject was successfully heat acclimated as seen by the lowered HR at rest and during exercise, decreased resting and exercising T c and an increased PO. The heat exercise resulted in an initial increase in Hsp70 concentrations, known as thermotolerance, and the increase in Hsp70 after exercise was inversely correlated to the resting values of Hsp70 (Spearman’s rank correlation = −0.81, p < 0.01). Furthermore, the 15-day heat–exercise protocol also increased the basal levels of Hsp70, a response different from that of thermotolerance. This is, as far as we are aware, the first report showing Hsp70 levels during consecutive days of intermittent heat exposure giving rise to heat acclimation. In conclusion, a relatively longer heat acclimation protocol is suggested to obtain maximum benefit of heat acclimation inclusive of both cellular and systemic adaptations.  相似文献

We studied the energy flow from C3 and C4 plants to higher trophic levels in a central Amazonian savanna by comparing the carbon stable-isotope ratios of potential food plants to the isotope ratios of species of different consumer groups. All C4 plants encountered in our study area were grasses and all C3 plants were bushes, shrubs or vines. Differences in δ13C ratios among bushes ( = −30.8, SD = 1.2), vines ( = −30.7, SD = 0.46) and trees ( = −29.7, SD = 1.5) were small. However the mean δ13C ratio of dicotyledonous plants ( = −30.4, SD = 1.3) was much more negative than that of the most common grasses ( = −13.4, SD = 0.27). The insect primary consumers had δ13C ratios which ranged from a mean of −29.5 (SD = 0.47) for the grasshopper Tropidacris collaris to a mean of −14.7 (SD = 0.56) for a termite (Nasutitermes sp.), a range similar to that of the vegetation. However, the common insectivorous and omnivorous vertebrates had intermediate values for δ13C, indicating that carbon from different autotrophic sources mixes rapidly as it moves up the food chain. Despite this mixing, the frogs and lizards generally had higher values of δ13C ( = −21.7, SD = 1.6;  = −21.9, SD = 1.8, respectively) than the birds ( = −24.8, SD = 1.8) and the only species of mammal resident in the savanna ( = −25.4), indicating that they are generally more dependent on, or more able to utilise, food chains based on C4 grasses. Efficient plant regeneration is essential for successful transformation and in vitro polyploidy induction in mulberry. A high frequency (80%) of plant regeneration from hypocotyls occurred under in vitro conditions in mulberry (Morus multicaulis Poir.). We identified three key factors for enhancing successful regeneration based on earlier work: (1) hypocotyl position, (2) the combination and concentration of growth regulators, and (3) the addition of AgNO3. The highest frequency of shoot regeneration was achieved using hypocotyl segments, which are proximal to apical meristems, and the optimal culture conditions were Murashige and Skoog’s (MS) (Murashige and Skoog, 1962) basal medium supplemented with 3.0 mg l−1 6-benzylamino purine, 0.3 mg l−1 indole-3-acetic acid, 0.1% polyvinypyrrolidone, and 1.0 mg/l silver nitrate (AgNO3) under subdued light at 25 ± 2°C. Treating the shoots with 0.2% colchicine (dipping for 72 h) resulted in a 14% tetraploid frequency, whereas a 20% tetraploid frequency resulted from using a 0.25% colchicine (dripping for 5 d) treatment, as determined by chromosome number counts. The diploid plant chromosome number was 28 (2n = 2x = 28) and that of tetraploid plants was 56 (2n = 4x = 56). Regenerated shoots rooted easily in 8–10 d using half-strength basal MS medium with 0.5 mg l−1 indole-3-butyric acid and were successfully established in the soil.  相似文献

Harsh environment at high altitude may affect the mating system of plant species, especially those with wide ecological amplitude. Smaller effective neighbourhood size, less pollen and seed production, higher rate of inbreeding and a shift towards vegetative propagation may be involved. These changes can be reflected in spatial genetic structure (SGS). Populations of Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst.] were analysed along an altitudinal cline to verify whether SGS increases with altitude. Three putatively autochthonous populations in Tyrol (Austria) at 800, 1,200 and 1,600?m above sea level (asl) were studied. Six highly polymorphic DNA markers (expressed sequence tag?Cderived simple sequence repeats, EST-SSRs) were used to genotype a total of 450 contiguous trees (150 trees per population). Loiselle??s kinship coefficient was used to quantify SGS. Against expectation no significant SGS was found in any of the populations, indicating a random spatial pattern. Significant SGS was observed when all populations were treated as a single one conforming to an isolation-by-distance pattern. Nearly identical allelic frequencies were found resulting in very small population differentiation (F ST?=?0.002). The fixation index decreased with diameter at breast height (a proxy for age) indicating natural selection against inbred trees. The results of this study indicate that seed and pollen dispersal mechanisms in Norway spruce are strongly counteracting spatial aggregation of similar genotypes even at high elevations.  相似文献

A fluidized-bed reactor (FBR) was used to enrich an aerobic chlorophenol-degrading microbial culture. Long-term continuous-flow operation with low effluent concentrations selected oligotrophic microorganisms producing good-quality effluent for pentachlorophenol(PCP)-contaminated water. PCP biodegradation kinetics was studied using this FBR enrichment culture. The results from FBR batch experiments were modeled using a modified Haldane equation, which resulted in the following kinetic constants: q max = 0.41 mg PCP mg protein−1 day−1, K S = 16 μg l−1, K i = 5.3 mg l−1, and n = 3.5. These results show that the culture has a high affinity for PCP but is also inhibited by relatively low PCP concentrations (above 1.1 mg PCP l−1). This enrichment culture was maintained over 1 year of continuous-flow operation with PCP as the sole source of carbon and energy. During continuous-flow operation, effluent concentrations below 2 μg l−1 were achieved at 268 min hydraulic retention time (t HR) and 2.5 mg PCP l−1 feed concentration. An increase in loading rate by decreasing t HR did not significantly deteriorate the effluent quality until a t HR decrease from 30 min to 21 min resulted in process failure. Recovery from process failure was slow. Decreasing the feed PCP concentration and increasing t HR resulted in an improved process recovery. Clarification of clonal growth pattern is critical for understanding the population dynamics and reproductive system evolution of clonal plant species. The contribution of clonality to the spatial genetic structure (SGS) within populations is also an important issue. I examined the spatial distribution of genetic variability within two populations of the coastal plant Carex kobomugi using seven microsatellite loci. Genotyping of 226 and 140 ramets within 14 × 40 m and 14 × 34 m plots on two populations revealed 36 and 33 multilocus genotypes, respectively. To quantify the extent of intermingling among clones, for each genet, I calculated the dominance of ramets belonging to a particular genet within a spatial range of the genet. Furthermore, I analyzed spatial distribution of genotypes within 2 × 2 m and 1 × 2 m quadrats using second-order spatial statistics. These analyses indicated that clones are highly intermingled, suggesting a low level of spatial interaction among clones. Spatial autocorrelation analysis of kinship coefficient including all pairs of ramets showed significantly stronger SGS than analysis considering only pairs between different genets. I conclude that clonal propagation largely contributes to SGS at a fine scale.  相似文献

A trial was undertaken to assess the extent to which variation in sawn-board quality traits of plantation-grown Eucalyptus nitens is under genetic control and amenable to genetic improvement. Five hundred and sixty trees from 129 families and three central Victorian races were sampled from an open-pollinated progeny trial in Tasmania, Australia. Acoustic wave velocity (AWV) was assessed on standing trees and sawlogs. Wedges from disks extracted from sawlogs were assessed for basic density and checking. Processed boards from 496 of the trees were assessed for board stiffness (static modulus of elasticity, MOE), and internal and surface checking. Genetic differences among races were significant for AWV and MOE traits. The Southern race had the highest mean values for these traits. Significant additive genetic variation within races was observed in all traits, demonstrating that the quality of plantation-grown E. nitens boards could be improved through breeding. Estimated narrow-sense heritabilities were 0.85 for standing-tree AWV, 0.71 for log AWV, 0.37 for board MOE, and ranged from 0.20 to 0.52 for checking traits. A strongly positive genetic correlation (r g = 1.05) was observed between standing-tree AWV and board MOE, indicating that AWV could be used as a selection trait to improve E. nitens board stiffness. The genetic correlation between basic density and board MOE was also positive (r g = 0.62). However, a significant and adverse genetic correlation (r g = 0.61) was identified between basic density and surface check length. Wood stiffness and checking traits were more-or-less genetically independent, and genetic correlations between surface and internal checking were positive but only moderate (r g = 0.48–0.52).  相似文献
