The present study has revealed that persons working at offal and bone processing plants show no specific pathology, peculiar to such plants, in the state of their health and severe mass diseases among these persons are absent. Nevertheless, rather frequent occurrence of erysipeloid should be noted. The survey of workers employed at different stages of the production process has revealed the presence of ornithosis, listeriosis and leptospirosis infections. No clinically manifest cases of these diseases have been detected. The infection of individual workers occurs in the process of production as the result of contacts with infected raw materials of animal origin. For preventing the possible spread of infection great attention should be paid to sanitary, hygienic and epidemiological measures.  相似文献

In March-April 1987 an outbreak of Legionella infection was registered among 236 workers at a rubber factory in Armavir. An ARD-like syndrome and acute alveolitis were the main variants of the clinical course of the infection. Legionella infection was diagnosed on the basis of a fourfold and greater increase in the titers of antibodies to L. pneumophila, serogroup 1, as determined in the indirect immunofluorescence test and enzyme immunoassay (EIA). In urine samples obtained from patients Legionella antigen was determined with the use of EIA techniques. The culture of L. pneumophila, serogroup 1, was isolated from the recycling-type water supply system of the factory. The outbreak was stopped by a complex of sanitary, hygienic and epidemic control measures.  相似文献

Cases of skin (skin-artericular) form of erysipeloid were recorded in the islands of the Sea of Okhotsk. The natural foci of the causative agent of this infection were polyhostal and polyvectoral in character. The causative agent of erysipeloid exists among the animals habitating on land and sea. Mass species of animals characteristic of the island landscape served as the sources of infection. Their four landscape types (mountaineous-taiga, of sea coast and rocks, anthropurgic settlement, and of water bodies--salt and freshwater) were preliminarily distinguished by the combination of biocenological, epidemiological, and epizootological peculiarities of natural erysipeloid foci.  相似文献

We encountered an outbreak of paragonimiasis among Cambodian technical intern trainees (TITs) at a food-processing factory in Fukuoka, Japan. The patients were 20–28 years old, seven females and two males, who had been in Japan for one to four years. All of them had consumed raw or undercooked Japanese mitten crab they purchased at a local grocery store near their training place. CT images showed multiple lesions not only in the lungs but in the extrapulmonary organs as well, such as subcutaneous tissues, abdominal muscles, and mesentery, in most of the patients. Their medical records indicated that all of them acquired infection in Japan, not in Cambodia. Diagnosis was made serologically and the patients were treated with praziquantel successfully. Foreign workers and TITs are increasing in Japan so rapidly, that food borne-infections, including paragonimiasis, should be considered in people from developing countries who have exotic dietary habits.  相似文献

The mechanisms of the pathogenic effect of microbial cultures used in biotechnological industry and the products of their vital activity on the workers were investigated. A unique classification of the components of the disease incidence with temporary disability is described. The necessity of detecting prepathological conditions and initial occupational affections in the workers for preventing severe consequences of occupational diseases is indicated. On the basis of complex investigations of disease incidence in the workers, revision of the present sanitary and hygienic regulations may be of need.  相似文献

The materials, comprehensively characterizing the water outbreaks of gastroenteritis with its etiology established and its clinico-epidemiological interpretation made, are presented. Along with other data, the water nature of the outbreak was verified by the detection of rotavirus antigen, made in the enzyme immunoassay, not only in patients, but also in water samples from the surface water source and from sewage. To isolate the infective agent from environmental objects, bentonite, a mineral sorbent, has been used for the first time. The authors believe that the water route plays the main (primary) role in the spread of rotavirus gastroenteritis and the adult population is the main reservoir of this infection. The fact the disease is registered mainly among younger age groups of the child population reflects only the maximum manifestation of rotavirus infection among these age groups.  相似文献

An outbreak of Q fever occurred in February–April 2014 among workers at a waste-sorting plant in Bilbao (Spain). The outbreak affected 58.5% of investigated employees, 47.2% as confirmed cases (PCR and/or serology) and 11.3% as probable cases (symptoms without laboratory confirmation). Only employees who had no-access to the waste processing areas of the plant were not affected and incidence of infection was significantly higher among workers not using respiratory protection masks. Detection by qPCR of Coxiella burnetii in dust collected from surfaces of the plant facilities confirmed exposure of workers inside the plant. Animal remains sporadically detected among the residues received for waste-sorting were the most probable source of infection. After cleaning and disinfection, all environmental samples tested negative. Personal protection measures were reinforced and made compulsory for the staff and actions were taken to raise farmers’ awareness of the biological risk of discharging animal carcasses as urban waste.  相似文献

Salmonella typhimurium phage type 10 was identified as the etiologic agent, and cheddar cheese was implicated as the source of infection. Strains isolated from infected humans and from cheese were indistinguishable by biotyping, antibiotic resistance typing, and phage typing. Plasmid analysis confirmed cheese as the source of infection and revealed the presence of two molecular subgroups of bacteriophage type 10. Group I strains carried 57-, 22.3-, and 3.4-kilobase (kb) plasmids; group II strains carried 57-, 4.6-, and 3.4-kb plasmids. Digestion with endonucleases HaeIII, HpaII, and AvaIII indicated that the 3.4-kb plasmids were identical. This outbreak was, therefore, caused by a mixed infection with two distinct but related bacteria. Group I strains are fairly common among Canadian S. typhimurium phage type 10 isolates, whereas group II strains appeared to be unique to this outbreak.  相似文献

The foci of the causative agent of erysipeloid at the islands of the Okhotsk sea were of the polyvector and polyhostal character. There were recorded 92 species of the naturally infected by the erysipeloid causative agent invertebrate inhabitants of the sea, fish, amphibia, reptilia, birds, mammals and ectoparasites of the warm-blooded animals. Gamazoid and ixodes ticks, mosquitoes, horse-flies and flees were found to be naturally infected with erysipelotrix. Ixodes persulcatus were found to be capable of infecting albino mice during blood sucking.  相似文献

The analytical study indicating that 25% of prostitutes use drugs by intravenous injection is presented. As determined in this study, prostitutes face the double danger of being infected with HIV (they undergo treatment for drug addiction and sexually transmitted diseases). The conclusion has been made that no educational work on HIV/AIDS is carried out among this group of women, though they run a high risk of infection. According to this study, the requirements which ensure the health of prostitutes may be realized by itinerary educational programs, the publication of information materials, specially intended for distribution among such women. The necessity to supplement information on AIDS with information on STD is noted, alerting the public on the fact that these infections are closely connected. The necessity of educating transport and industrial workers, as well as people working in the system of the Ministry of Defense, with a view to prevent the spread of HIV infection is also considered to be an important factor (on the example of Belarus).  相似文献

Salmonella contamination of swine and morbidity rates among the workers of swine-breeding complexes and the members of their families, as well as among the population inhabiting the zone of possible influence rendered by such complexes on the environment, have been studied as exemplified by 4 complexes for large-scale swine breeding, differing in their technology of swine raising and fattening, their systems of the purification and utilization of manure-containing sewage. Besides, the influence of the raw meat (pork) and meat products, contaminated with salmonellae, sold in town, on salmonellosis morbidity among the urban population has been analyzed. The study has revealed that salmonellae are spread from swine-breeding complexes with the fluid and solid fractions of manure-containing sewage, as well as with the animals supplied to the meat-packing plant; the contamination of the workers of swine-breeding complexes with salmonellae becomes possible due to the low culture of the production and to the breach of sanitary and epidemic-control regulations and the contamination of the population occurs through meat and meat products.  相似文献

The data obtained in the study of an explosive outbreak of acute respiratory diseases, tonsillitis and scarlet fever in one of schools in Moscow have made it possible to exclude the alimentary mechanism of its development and to demonstrate the role of the droplet mechanism of transmission in the appearance of its outbreak. The epidemiological analysis of the outbreak has permitted the formulation of the hypothesis on the conditions of the formation and spread of the epidemic variant of the infective agent; this hypothesis corresponds to the available data in literature on the qualitative changes of the infective agent in the course of the epidemic process. The study has shown that the prophylaxis of the explosive outbreaks of respiratory streptococcal infections must be ensured by the system of epidemiological surveillance with timely intervention into the epidemiological process at its early stages.  相似文献

A model for the spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in a population of male homosexuals is presented. The population is divided into five groups on the basis of degree of sexual activity. Within each group, the individuals are classified as 1) susceptible; 2) infective; or 3) removed because of a lack of sexual activity associated with advanced acquired immunodeficiency disease (AIDS). The infective individuals are further subdivided into four stages of infection. Analyses of the model address two questions with regard to the spread of HIV: (1) What is the effect of level of sexual activity on an individual's risk for infection, and (2) What is the effect that assumptions about mixing between groups have on both individual risk and transmission throughout a population? Results from analyses using a number of different parameter estimates show that increased levels of sexual activity increase the likelihood that an individual will become infected. In addition, the initial spread of the disease is markedly affected by variation in the amount of contact among individuals from different subpopulations. The steady-state incidence of the disease is not markedly affected by variation in the contact patterns, but the size of the steady-state population and therefore the proportion of infected individuals in the population does vary significantly with changes in the degree of mixing among subpopulations. These results show clearly the sensitivity of model outcomes to variation in the patterns of contact among individuals and the need for better data on such interactions to aid in understanding and predicting the spread of HIV.  相似文献

In this cross-sectional survey of laboratory animal workers in the United States, 23 of 1367 persons reported 28 cases of infection with zoonotic agents from research animals at their workplace during the past 5 years, with six persons indicating that their infections were medically confirmed. Based on these data, the annualized incidence rate for work-related transmission of zoonotic agents from laboratory animals was 45 cases per 10,000 worker-years at risk (95% confidence interval, 30 to 65 cases), approximating the rate for nonfatal occupational illnesses in the agricultural production-livestock industry and for those employed in the health services during 2002. Logistic regression analysis found various characteristics of persons and their employers that were significantly associated with the likelihood of having been medically evaluated for exposure to a zoonotic agent from laboratory animals. Most (95.595% +/- 1.1%) persons working with laboratory animals or their tissues indicated that they knew whom to talk to at their institution for medical evaluation and care should they be concerned about the possibility of an occupationally acquired zoonotic disease in future. However, occupational illnesses and exposures among laboratory animal workers was underreported, as 10 of the 28 (36%) alleged zoonotic disease cases were not communicated to the employee's supervisor. Lack of concern about the potential significance to their health and the perception of punitive consequences to the employee were some of the reasons cited for underreporting, an issue which must be vigorously addressed in the interests of continuing progress toward zoonotic disease prevention in this field.  相似文献

The fact of the import of this infection from China and its transmission mainly by the water route due to the intensive contamination of environmental objects has been substantiated. The effective purification decontamination of sewage water plays decisive role on the system of anticholera measures. During an outbreak of cutaneous leishmaniasis in a locality (Las Rosas, Cojedes State, Venezuela) previously non-endemic, 12.9% of humans, 7% of dogs and 21.4% of donkeys (Equus asinus) had lesions with parasites. The agent in the three hosts was identified as Leishmania braziliensis, subspecies braziliensis at least in man and donkey. The probable vector was Lutzomyia panamensis. No infection was found in a small sample of wild mammals examined. The outbreak was apparently linked with the importation of donkeys with ulcers, from endemic areas. The authors call attention to the fact that not only in the foci of "uta", but also in areas of the other forms of American cutaneous leishmaniasis, dogs are frequently found infected. They emphasize the necessity of searching for the infection in donkeys and of performing hemocultures and xenodiagnosis with sandflies in human, canine and equine cases, to verify their possible role as sources of infection, and not merely as dead ends in the epidemiological chain of the disease.  相似文献

Candida tropicalis was identified as the etiologic agent of a severe contamination detected on an industrial fodder yeast production at the Cuban eastern region. After a detailed diagnostic task on raw material carried out on different factory sections, protocols to identify the contamination source and to isolate the microorganism were proposed. The identification was by comparison of the internal transcribed spacers ITS1 and ITS4 from 5.8S ribosomal DNA nucleotide sequences. In parallel, propagation of production strain, Candida utilis NRRL Y-660, at lab scale (2.5 l) was performed. Similar results to those observed in the factory concerning to its kinetic behavior in aerobic propagation with contaminated molasses, were detected at this level. The identification and primary kinetic characterization led to the implementation of sanitary and technological measures to bring production at its normal operational conditions as well as the application of prophylactic surveillance methodologies to avoid future contaminations.  相似文献

The role of agricultural animals as the sources of infection was studied. 8 Yersinia strains were isolated from 83 samples taken from cattle. Yersinia were isolated from feces, udder washings and milk. In the examination of 63 samples obtained from sheep the infective agent was isolated from feces in 6 cases. 6 Yersinia strains were isolated from 92 fecal samples taken from pigs. Y. enterocolitica were isolated from sick animals. The isolated strains were classified with serovars 03, 058, 08 and 09. In the foci of animal infection thus revealed antibodies to various Yersinia strains were detected in the blood sera of the animal-tending personnel, which indicates the professional character of the spread of this infection among humans. The infection is probably transferred by the contact and alimentary routes.  相似文献
