Recuperation after muscular fatigue by "diverting activities"   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
"Diverting activity" is defined as any physical or mental activity performed between or simultaneously with bouts of exhaustive, local muscular work. In the present experiments bouts of exhaustive work consisting of rhythmic lifting of weights were performed with the elbow flexors or with the flexors of the middle finger. Pauses of 2 min duration spent in complete rest or while performing diverting activities alternated between the bouts of work. As diverting activities were used: Physical activity, dynamic or static, performed with big or small muscle groups (other than the fatigued group), or mental activity (problem solving). It was found that the amount of work that could be performed after a pause with diverting activity was always larger than the amount of work performed after a passive pause. The beneficial effect was seen also when the blood flow to the exhausted muscles was interrupted by pneumatic cuffs. Determination of the blood flow in the exhausted muscles by means of Xe-133 clearance showed no systematic blood flow increases caused by the diverting activity. It is concluded that recuperation after local muscle fatigue is influenced by a central nervous factor (Setchenov phenomenon) that is largely independent of the local blood flow.  相似文献

To study the effect of exercise and dehydration on the postural sensory-motor strategies, 10 sportsmen performed a 45 min-exercise on a cycle ergometer at intensity just below the ventilatory threshold without fluid intake. They performed, before, immediately and 20 min after exercise, a sensory organization test to evaluate balance control in six different sensory situations, that combine three visual conditions (eyes open, eyes closed and sway-referenced visual surround motion) with two platform conditions (stable platform, sway-referenced platform motion). Blood samples were collected before and after exercise. Exercise induced a mild dehydration, characterized by body mass loss and increase in proteinemia. Postural performances decreased immediately after exercise, mainly in the standard situation (eyes open, stable visual surround and platform) and when only the vestibular cue was reliable (eyes closed and sway-referenced platform). Moreover, the decreased use of vestibular input was correlated with the dehydration level. Finally, postural performances normalized 20 min after exercise. Even though muscular fatigue could explain the decrease in postural performances, vestibular fluid modifications may also be involved by its influence on the intralabyrinthine homeostasis, lowering thus the contribution of vestibular information on balance control.  相似文献

The characteristics of formation and achievement of motor conditioned reactions were studied in seventeen dogs before and after the lesion of head or body of the caudate nucleus. It has been shown that the degree of higher nervous activity disturbances depends on the localization of injuries in the nucleus, and on the complexity of the tests used. The caudate nucleus exerts a modulating effect on the parameters of motor conditioned reflexes and takes a direct part in the structure of delayed reflexes. Lesion of the caudate nucleus body is attended with more serious disturbances of higher nervous activity than lesion of its head.  相似文献

The effects of 20 days horizontal bed rest (BR) on postural reflex were studied by measuring fluctuation of center of gravity in the body during two legs or one leg upright standing in 10 young volunteers. The fluctuation was decided as total moving distance of the center recorded during 60sec standing on a force plate. The stability was measured by the moved area. After BR, the moving distance increased during two legs standing with open eyes (p<0.05), but statistically unchanged with closed eyes. The moving area decreased during right one-leg standing with closed eyes (p<0.05), but unchanged during left one-leg standing. Despite with open eyes the increased distance suggested that postural reflexes to maintain upright position were probably decreased by increased unsuitable feedback informations from the visual receptor deconditioning during BR. The decreased area during right one-leg standing with closed eyes also suggested that the declined standing posture reflex was probably related to more rapidly lowered functions for maintaining standing position in the dominating leg than in the other.  相似文献

The purpose of the research was to evaluate the efficiency of body balance regulation in the elderly and verify whether physical activity in adolescence could influence later physical efficiency. Research was carried out on 62 persons aged between 65 and 96 years of age. Fifty people declared that they undertook physical activity in adolescence, while 12 reported no activity. Stabilographic examinations were performed during trials with open and closed eyes on a horizontally situated platform tilted forward and backward. The centre-of-pressure (COP) path length, sway range area and centre-of-pressure velocity (COP velocity) were assessed. The safety margin when a person leans forward and backward was evaluated as well. On a horizontally situated platform, exclusion of visual control in most of the examined participants resulted in a significant increase in values of examined parameters. Tilting the platform caused in both groups an increase in values of all the parameters. These changes were more visible when a trial with eyes closed was performed and the group of active people obtained better results. These people were also able to use the support area more effectively when changing the position of the body. It was found that body balance disorder affects more often elderly people who were less active in adolescence and that with age visual balance control dominates the proprioceptive one. This means that physical activity directed towards, among other things, forming and improving the body balance regulation system is needed at an early age.  相似文献

By means of ethograms record and analysis, connection has been studied between the properties of rats behaviour organization in the open field, determining the level of behaviour entropy in this test, and the speed of conditioned reflexes formation in the Skinner chamber. According to behaviour entropy level the rats are significantly divided into four groups; the lowest speed of conditioned reflexes formation in the Skinner's chamber is observed in the animals of the first (low entropy) group, the highest--in the fourth (high entropy) group. The obtained data are discussed according to Pavlov's concepts on the characteristics of the basic nervous processes, determining individual-typological characteristics of the higher nervous activity of the animal. Conclusion is made that division according to the level of behaviour entropy in the open field test may serve as a safe method of express-estimation of the animals abilities to conditioned habits formation.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate how "double-shifts" (15.5 hours) affects sleep, fatigue and self-rated health. The study was carried out on male construction workers of which 80% were long-distance commuters. The schedule involved two work periods and each work period involved two double shifts in a row. The subjects filled in a sleep/wake diary at 8 times across a year and a questionnaire at 3 times. They also wore an actigraph during one shift cycle. The results showed that sleepiness, and to a certain extent, mental fatigue increased during double shifts and accumulated across days. The short rest time (8.5 hours) between days caused insufficient sleep and approximately 5.5 hours of sleep was obtained between double shifts. Questionnaire data showed that complaints of insufficient sleep, exhaustion on awakening and pain symptoms increased across the year. It was concluded that a shift system involving double shifts has a negative effect on fatigue, recovery and health-related well-being.  相似文献

The 62-channel EEG was recorded in control (CI, n = 21) and high anxiety (HA, n = 18) individuals under emotionally neutral (eyes closed, eyes open, and neutral videoclip) as well as under emotionally positive and aversive arousal conditions elicited by affective videoclips. In the present study the first three experimental conditions (eyes closed--eyes open--viewing emotionally neutral films) modeled increasing non-emotional arousal. Findings from this continuum show that in the HA individuals the lowest level of tonic arousal (eyes closed) was associated with stronger right-sided parietotemporal theta1 and beta1 activity. Group differences during cortical arousal increased by sensory stimulation (eyes open, neutral clips presentation) were marked only by persisting favored right hemisphere beta1 activity in high anxiety individuals. Under aversive arousal condition, attended by high intensity experience of emotions of anger, fear, disgust and anxiety, the HA subjects selectively desynchronized the right parietotemporal beta1 power which was initially higher in the control conditions. The obtained findings allow to suggest that peculiarities of right-sided parietotemporal EEG theta1 and beta1 activity in HA individuals under studied emotionally neutral and aversive arousal conditions point to overactivated withdrawal system in "checking" and "control" modes.  相似文献

The dynamics of using a stabilized motor defensive conditioned reflex of active avoidance in "shuttle-box" in rats after the total influence of high energy electrons and gamma-rays at a dose of 100 Gy and a modifying influence of the two most important factors forming the functional status of the central nervous system: the stage of the conditioned reflex consolidation and typological peculiarities of the higher nervous activity have been investigated. The influence of both types of ionizing radiation has been shown to cause far more profound disturbances of non consolidated conditioned reflexes in comparison with the automatized conditioned reflexes and provoke an inverted picture of disturbances in the animals with opposed peculiarities of the higher nervous activity. The qualitative picture of the dynamics of disturbances that are caused by these types of radiation is identical. In summary, the studied conditions that form the functional status of the central nervous system determine the nature of neuroradiation syndrome to a greater extent than differences in the effectiveness of these types of radiation.  相似文献

Purpose

A lack of fatigue-related muscle contractile property changes at time of perceived physical exhaustion and greater central than peripheral fatigue detected by twitch interpolation technique have recently been reported in cancer survivors with fatigue symptoms. Based on these observations, it was hypothesized that compared to healthy people, myoelectrical manifestation of fatigue in the performing muscles would be less significant in these individuals while sustaining a prolonged motor task to self-perceived exhaustion (SPE) since their central fatigue was more prominent. The purpose of this study was to test this hypothesis by examining electromyographic (EMG) signal changes during fatiguing muscle performance.

Methods

Twelve individuals who had advanced solid cancer and cancer-related fatigue (CRF), and 12 age- and gender-matched healthy controls performed a sustained elbow flexion at 30% maximal voluntary contraction till SPE. Amplitude and mean power frequency (MPF) of EMG signals of the biceps brachii, brachioradialis, and triceps brachii muscles were evaluated when the individuals experienced minimal, moderate, and severe fatigue.

Results

CRF patients perceived physical “exhaustion” significantly sooner than the controls. The myoelectrical manifestation of muscular fatigue assessed by EMG amplitude and MPF was less significant in CRF than controls. The lower MPF even at minimal fatigue stage in CRF may indicate pathophysiologic condition of the muscle.

Conclusions

CRF patients experience less myoelectrical manifestation of muscle fatigue than healthy individuals near the time of SPE. The data suggest that central nervous system fatigue plays a more important role in limiting endurance-type of motor performance in patients with CRF.  相似文献

To determine what drives the closure of the active-site loop in the reaction catalyzed by triosephosphate isomerase, several residues involved in hydrogen bonding between the loop and the bulk of the protein have been altered. It was known from earlier work that the loop serves two functions: to stabilize the reaction intermediate (and the two transition states that flank it) and to prevent the loss of this unstable species into free solution. To discover what elements of the protein are necessary for proper closure of the loop, selective destabilization of the "open" and the "closed" forms of the enzyme with respect to one another has been attempted. The mutant Y164F isomerase has been prepared to evaluate the importance of the structure of the "open" form, and the mutant E129Q, Y208F, and S211A enzymes have allowed investigation of the "closed" form. The integrity of the loop itself has been destabilized by making the T172A isomerase. We have found that only those mutations that destabilize the "closed" form of the enzyme significantly perturb the catalytic properties of the isomerase. The second-order rate constants (kcat/Km) of the S211A and E129Q enzymes are reduced 30-fold, and that of the mutant Y208F enzyme is reduced 2000-fold, from the level of the wild-type enzyme. The dramatic drop in activity of the Y208F enzyme is accompanied by a 200-fold increase in the dissociation constant of the intermediate analogue phosphoglycolohydroxamate. The most important property of the mobile loop of triosephosphate isomerase lies, therefore, in the stability of the system when the active site contains ligand and the loop is closed.  相似文献

Exercise-induced respiratory muscle fatigue: implications for performance.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
It is commonly held that the respiratory system has ample capacity relative to the demand for maximal O(2) and CO(2) transport in healthy humans exercising near sea level. However, this situation may not apply during heavy-intensity, sustained exercise where exercise may encroach on the capacity of the respiratory system. Nerve stimulation techniques have provided objective evidence that the diaphragm and abdominal muscles are susceptible to fatigue with heavy, sustained exercise. The fatigue appears to be due to elevated levels of respiratory muscle work combined with an increased competition for blood flow with limb locomotor muscles. When respiratory muscles are prefatigued using voluntary respiratory maneuvers, time to exhaustion during subsequent exercise is decreased. Partially unloading the respiratory muscles during heavy exercise using low-density gas mixtures or mechanical ventilation can prevent exercise-induced diaphragm fatigue and increase exercise time to exhaustion. Collectively, these findings suggest that respiratory muscle fatigue may be involved in limiting exercise tolerance or that other factors, including alterations in the sensation of dyspnea or mechanical load, may be important. The major consequence of respiratory muscle fatigue is an increased sympathetic vasoconstrictor outflow to working skeletal muscle through a respiratory muscle metaboreflex, thereby reducing limb blood flow and increasing the severity of exercise-induced locomotor muscle fatigue. An increase in limb locomotor muscle fatigue may play a pivotal role in determining exercise tolerance through a direct effect on muscle force output and a feedback effect on effort perception, causing reduced motor output to the working limb muscles.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of neuromuscular fatigue and gender on peroneus brevis muscle (PB) and peroneus longus muscle (PL) reflexes elicited by sudden ankle inversion. Sixteen males and fifteen females stood on a "trap-door" platform that suddenly inverted the ankle 20 degrees when released. The resulting movement elicited peroneal reflexes. Reflex measurements were collected both before and after fatiguing the ankle evertors. Reflex delay in the PB and PL was not affected by fatigue, gender, or their interaction. Reflex amplitude in the PL exhibited no main effect of fatigue or gender, but their interaction was significant. Pairwise comparisons revealed PL reflex amplitude decreased by 11.3% in males (p=0.008) and increased 22.1% in females (p=0.003) with fatigue. A similar trend was found in the PB, but was not statistically significant. This opposite effect in females and males may be due to differences in how males and females compensate for fatigue, and may be related to the gender difference in ankle injury rate.  相似文献

It has been found that extirpation of the orbital zones of the cerebral cortex in dogs in which the structures of the limbic and striate levels of nervous integration were previously ablated, produced more profound disturbances of the higher nervous activity than the previous operations. Not only conditioned positive and inhibitory reactions were affected, but unconditioned alimentary reflexes as well, while food motivation sharply decreased. Further experiments on the operated animals and could go on, only when alimentary excitability was enhanced. A conclusion has been drawn that the orbital zones of the cerebral cortex are directly related to the achievement of an integrated alimentary behavioral reaction.  相似文献

In 12 dogs the effect of experimental laminectomy on the structure of motor and sensitive neurons, as well as on the structure of the conductive pathways in the spine cord has been investigated. The experimental laminectomy with a subsequent durotomy results in an increase (in 1.5-5 days of the experiment) of both hyperchromatophilic and hyperchromatophobic neurons. This demonstrates their functional reconstruction (inhibitory chromophilia, inhibited activity, fatigue and exhaustion chromatophobia). Restoration of the neuronal structure and that of the spinal cord nervous fibers takes place by the end of 10 days after the experimental laminectomy with residual foci of reversible changes in the conductive pathways system.  相似文献

In healthy volunteers, we recorded stabilograms and studied postural responses evoked by galvanic stimulation of the labyrinth (binaurally applied 1-mA current, 4 sec) with the subjects' eyes open and closed and under conditions of reversed visual perception. Horizontal reversal of the visual space was provided by using spectacles with the Dove's prisms. In series consisting of 10 sequential tests with eyes open, we observed a gradual drop in the response amplitude, while there were practically no changes in the maximum velocity of the displacement. Postural responses with eyes closed were considerably greater than those with eyes open, but their amplitude and velocity demonstrated no changes with sequential tests. Under conditions of reversal of the visual perception, both the amplitude and maximum velocity of the postural responses decreased with successive testing. Under the above conditions, at the beginning of a test series responses to vestibular stimulation were greater than those with eyes closed, but in repeated tests they decreased and attained the same magnitude as in the tests with eyes closed. Therefore, the effect of short-term adaptation to visual reversal on the system controlling vertical posture resulted in simple rejection of the information coming via the visual input. In another experimental mode, we studied the adaptation effects at longer (3 h long) visual reversal. Postural responses to galvanic stimulation of the labyrinth (monaurally applied, 2-mA current, 4 sec) were tested with 1-h-long intervals; tests with visual reversal and with eyes closed were made in a random order with each other. A 3-h-long interval with the prismatic spectacles on did not modify the amplitude and velocity of the vestibular postural responses when the tests were made with the eyes closed. When the tests were performed with the eyes open, but in the inverting spectacles, postural responses significantly decreased (by about 50-60%) to the 2nd and 3rd h of the experiment. Such selective suppression of the vestibular input under conditions of visual reversal can be interpreted as a result of adaptational transformation of the visual-vestibular relation directed toward minimization of the visual-vestibular conflict.  相似文献

Time to stabilization (TTS) has been introduced as a method to analyze dynamic postural stability during jump and landing tasks, but has also been applied during the transition task from double-leg stance (DLS) to single-leg stance (SLS). However, the application of the originally described TTS technique during the latter task has some important limitations. The first goal of this study was to present an adapted version of the TTS technique to provide an effective alternative method to better analyze postural stability during the transition from DLS to SLS. The second goal was to study the influence of pathology and different speeds on postural stability outcomes. Fifteen healthy control subjects and 15 subjects with chronic ankle instability (CAI) performed the transition task on their preferred speed and as fast as possible, with eyes open and with eyes closed. Subjects with CAI performed the transition significantly slower when moving at their preferred speed with eyes closed. The time subjects needed to reach a new stability point was not discriminative between groups and largely dependent on movement speed. However, the amount of sway after this new stability point was significantly increased in the CAI group and when eyes were closed. The results of this study suggest that subjects with CAI have a decreased ability to overcome the postural perturbation created by the voluntary movement from DLS to SLS. Focusing only on TTS during the transition from DLS to SLS may lead at least in some cases to misinterpretations when assessing postural stability.  相似文献

Fatigue is a common problem in modern society. We attempted to identify moderate- to long-term fatigue-related alterations in the central nervous system using cognitive tasks and electroencephalography (EEG) measures. The study group consisted of 17 healthy male participants. After saliva samples were collected to measure copy number of human herpesvirus (HHV)-6 DNA to assess the level of moderate- to long-term fatigue, subjects were evaluated using EEG, with their eyes open for 2 min, then closed for 1 min sitting quietly. Thereafter, they completed cognitive task trials to evaluate simple selective attention for 3 min (Task 1) and conflict-controlling selective attention for 6 min (Task 2, which included Stroop trials). The percent error of Task 2 for Stroop trials was positively associated with the copy number of saliva HHV-6 DNA, although the simple selective attention measures in Task 1 did not differ significantly. EEG power densities (especially the alpha power density) during the eye-closed condition were negatively associated with the saliva HHV-6 DNA level. Impaired high-level information processing such as that required for conflict-controlling selective attention in the central nervous system may be a characteristic feature of moderate- to long-term fatigue.  相似文献

Postural responses to challenging situations were studied in older adults as they stood on a foam surface. The experiment was designed to assess the relative contributions made by visual and somatosensory information to the correction of postural sway. Twenty-four subjects, aged 56-83, stood for 20 s on a 1) firm or 2) foam surface with 1) the eyes open or 2) the eyes closed. Centre-of-pressure trajectories under the subjects' feet were measured by using a force platform. A repeated-measure two-way MANCOVA (two surfaces vs. two vision conditions) showed a significant main effect for the surface, but not for the vision. No covariate effect for age was found. Anterior-posterior sway increased in the subjects who were merely standing on the foam surface independent of the vision condition. Medial-lateral sway dramatically increased if the subjects stood on the foam surface with their eyes closed, but not if they stood with their eyes open. These results indicate that older adults rely more on visual information to correct mediolateral postural sway. It appears that the deterioration in visual acuity that occurs with aging may increase the risk of sideway falls, particularly in challenging situations, e.g., when standing on irregular or soft surfaces.  相似文献

Elderly people with peripheral neuropathy of the lower limbs (PNLL) demonstrate a typical balance and gait impairment because of sensory ataxia. There is evidence that rehabilitation produces important gains on balance and gait. However, responsiveness to rehabilitation of balance and gait measures is unknown in PNLL. Aim of the current work is to evaluate the responsiveness to rehabilitation of balance, gait and sensory ataxia measures in elderly with PNLL.Twenty-five elderly with PNLL attending physiotherapy and occupational therapy during inpatient rehabilitation were recruited. Balance and gait measures (including static posturography, TUG test and the 10 m walking test) were administered on admission and discharge. An accelerometer secured to the trunk was used for TUG recording and static balance assessment. Static balance was tested with open and closed eyes, so as to assess sensory ataxia.Following rehabilitation, patients improved gait [admission vs discharge, mean(SD): 0.86(0.33) vs 0.98(0.32) m/s], TUG [18.7(7.8) vs 15.1(5.2) s] and turning [46.2(15.3) vs 53.3(15.3) °/s]. However, none of 12 static balance parameters derived from trunk acceleration significantly changed. Principal component analysis showed that before training, eyes closed and eyes open balance correlated with orthogonal components (one and two vs. three and four). After training, eyes open and eyes closed balance were more similar to each other being both correlated with component one.Responsiveness to rehabilitation is larger for gait than static balance measured by trunk acceleration. However, exercise can also have a beneficial effect on sensory ataxia by making eyes closed balance more similar to eyes open balance.  相似文献
