Seventeen species of the mainly sand-dwelling genus Amphidinium are reported from south-eastern Australian waters. Three new species are described: A. boggayum, A. mootonorum and A. yuroogurrum. Additional features from previously described species are presented, including non-motile cell stages. Nine of these species are new records for Australia; however, these species are probably widespread and common. Two potentially ichthyotoxic species of Amphidinium were commonly found: A. carterae and A. cf. operculatum. A table of morphological characters is compiled as a step towards recognizing new characters with which to group species of this presently artificially defined unarmoured dinoflagellate genus.  相似文献

The nine allopatric species of Aotus recognized represent two natural groups distinguished by karyotype, color, and pelage patterns. Correlated with these group characters are reported differences in serum proteins and degrees of susceptibility or immunity to experimental infection with malarial parasites. The primitive gray-neck species group of Aotus contains A. brumbacki (new species), A. lemurinus (with subspecies lemurinus and griseimembra), A. trivirgatus, and A. vociferans. The derived red-neck group contains A. nancymai (new species), A. miconax. A. infulatus, and A. azarae (with subspecies azarae and boliviensis). Only the two new species are described but a key to the species and subspecies gives the diagnostic characters of each. The gray-neck group occurs almost entirely north of the Amazon, the red-neck group almost entirely south. The distributional exceptions are enclave populations resulting from river bend cutoffs. Formation of an enclave population of A. nancymai is discussed and available information on the biology of this species is reported.  相似文献

A review of the North American species of the genus Tarphiota Casey is presented. Three species are recognized: T. densa (Moore), T. fucicola (Mäklin), and T. geniculata (Mäklin). They occur on the sandy beaches of the Pacific coast. A new coastal species of Atheta, found on the seashore and exhibiting certain convergent characteristics to Tarphiota, is described from the Atlantic coast: A. novaescotiae Klimaszewski and Majka, sp. nov. All Canadian species are provided with diagnoses, genitalic illustrations and digital photos of their habitus in dorsal and lateral view. A key is presented to distinguish the species. New data on the natural history of A. novaescotiae are presented and briefly discussed.  相似文献

Three closely related species from Japan are treated and defined as composing the Amphinemura flavostigma group (Okamoto, 1922). One species, A. nikkoensis, is described as new to science. Two already known species, A. flavostigma and A. monotuberculata (Kawai, 1956), are redescribed, while the female of the latter is described for the first time. Another species, A. tetraspinosa Kawai, 1960, is regarded as a subjective synonym of Nemoura flavostigma Okamoto, 1922.  相似文献

This first study of the whole genusAgathis makes use of recent local revisions of the New Caledonian and Australian species which are all maintained. The male cone is shown to have most of the taxonomically useful variation, and this confirms the findings of two partial revisions centred on Indonesian species. Thirteen species are recognized, two of which have two subspecies. New Caledonia has five, and Australia three, sympatric species. Otherwise the species are allopatric except for a few populations of central MalesianA. dammara within the range of west MalesianA. borneensis. One of these montane populations is the distinctiveA. dammara subsp.flavescens of Malaya, formerly a full species. Two groups and three individually distinctive species can be recognized on microsporophyll characters. The larger, group B, comprizes eight species,A. australis (New Zealand),A. corbassonii, A. lanceolata andA. montana (New Caledonia),A. macrophylla (Melanesian islands and includingA. obtusa andA. vitiensis),A. atropurpurea (Australia),A. dammara (mainly central Malesia) andA. borneensis (west Malesia); both the last have long synonymies. The smaller species, group (A), comprizesA. microstachya (Australia) andA. labillardieri (west New Guinea and the Sepik basin). The individually distinctive species areA. moorei andA. ovata of New Caledonia andA. robusta of Australia with its new subspeciesnesophila, described here, of eastern New Guinea and New Britain.  相似文献

Artificial crossing experiments involving 3 Abies species native to Korean peninsula and 5 other representatives of Abies revealed a high hybridological affinity between Abies koreana and A. nephrolepis. Both these species are reproductively isolated from A. holophylla. All the three Korean species were found to exhibit incompatible relationships with the North American species A. concolor. The species A. holophylla and A. koreana differ also in their abilities to intercross with the Mediterranean firs. The former has been successfully crossed with A. nordmanniana, A. alba and A. cilicica exhibiting 19.1–55.3% crossability, whereas the latter produced filled seeds only with A. nordmanniana reaching 46.4% crossability. A considerable differentiation is postulated to exist between the pair of species A. koreana and A. nephrolepis on the one side and A. holophylla on the other side.  相似文献

Recent work has shown that the preliminary revision of Atractomorpha by Banerjee & Kevan (1960), while basically not altogether unsatisfactory, is in need of considerable modification. The most important changes made include the recognition, as good species, of a number of taxa previously relegated to synonymy or to subspecific status. Two previously undescribed species have been discovered in the African a&errans-group, and two new subspecies are erected. The conclusions are largely based upon a study of the phallic structures, which had not previously been deemed satisfactory in providing diagnostic characters. The variability of these structures in the various species is illustrated, including that due to immaturity in two of them. The concealed female copulatory structures are also figured. A new key to species and subspecies (as well as an abridged key) is presented. New species are:A. occidentalis and A. orientalis. New subspecies are:A. sinensis montana and A. psittacina affinis. Species resurrected from synonymy are:A. rufopunctata Bolivar, A. himalayica Bolivar, A. angusta Karsch, and A. similis Bolivar, of which A. australiana Bolivar proves to be a synonym, and not a subspecies of A. crenaticeps (Blanchard). The other species re-elevated from subspecific rank is A. rhodoptera Karsch. Further changes in synonymy are as follows:A. lanceolata Bolivar is a synonym of A. burri Bolivar and not of A. rhodoptera; A. dentifrons Bolivar is a synonym of A. similis and not of A. crenaticeps; A. brevicornis (Thunberg) is removed from partial synonymy with A. lata (Motschoulsky). A. blanchardi Bolivar is not synonymous with A. crenulata (Fabricius) but is conspecific with A. acutipennis (Guérin-Méneville) and is here tentatively recognized as a widely distributed south-west Asiatic subspecies (in place of A. brevis Uvarov, which, as now understood, is restricted to south-west Arabia). A. crenulata apparently has a more restricted distribution than previously thought, being largely replaced or complemented by A, angusta, except in India and Ceylon. Neotypes are designated for A. acutipennis blanchardi and for Truxalis oceanicus Montrouzier (=A. crenaticeps). Information regarding the type specimens of all nominal species of Atractomorpha except A. nipponica Steinmann is given, and lectotype designations are made wherever necessary. Photographs of almost all primary types, except that of A. nipponica, that have not previously been so illustrated are present. This last species may be a synonym of A. rufopunctata.  相似文献
