Species composition and seasonal succession of the phytoplankton were investigated on the upper Mississippi River at Prairie Island, Minnesota, U.S.A. Both the numbers and volume of individual species were enumerated based on cell counts with an inverted microscope. A succession similar to algal succession in the local lakes occurred. The diatoms were dominant during the spring and fall and blue-green algae were dominant during the summer. The algal concentrations have increased up to 40 fold the concentrations of the 1920's, since the installation of locks and dams. The maximum freshweight standing crop was 4 mg · l–1 in 1928 (Reinhard 1931), 13 mg · l–1 in 1975 a wet year, and 47 mg · l–1 in 1976, a relatively dry year with minimal current discharge. The diatoms varied from 36–99%, the blue-green algae from 0–44% and the cryptómonads from 0–50% of the total standing crop. The green algae were always present but never above 21% of the biomass. The dominant diatoms in recent years were centric -Stephanodiscus andCyclotella spp. (maximum 50,000 ml–1). The dominant blue-green algae wereAphanizomenon flos-aquae (L.) Ralfsex Born.et Flahault andOscillatoria agardhii Gomont (maximum 800 ml–1). These algal species are also present in local lakes. Shannon diversity values indicated greatest diversity of algae during the summer months.  相似文献

Data on menarcheal age were collected by thestatus quo method on a sample of 808 schoolgirls (8–19 years of age), from the Margen Izquierda area of the Biscay province (Basque Country). Probit analysis provided a mean age at menarche of 12.5±0.05 years with a standard deviation of 1.0 years. The result was compared with data from other previous Basque studies and related to age at PHV of the same sample.  相似文献

Pitch canker, caused by Fusarium circinatum, is a destructive disease of Pinus species and has recently been shown to represent a substantial threat to natural and commercial forests in northern Spain. The genetic diversity of F. circinatum in the Basque Country of Spain was assessed by characterising 96 isolates based on vegetative compatibility groups (VCGs), mating type assays, polymorphic DNA-markers and amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analyses. For this purpose, F. circinatum isolates were collected from diseased Pinus radiata as well as from insects associated with this host. Overall, a low level of diversity was detected in the population. The isolates represented only two VCGs and they were all of the same mating type. AFLP analyses revealed three genotypes and polymorphic DNA-markers specific for F.?circinatum showed nine genotypes. The most common genotypes represented 97% of all isolates for AFLP analysis and 68% of isolates for the polymorphic DNA-marker sets. Over all, this indicates that pitch canker in the Basque Country of Spain is caused by a clonally propagating population of F. circinatum, typical of a recently introduced pathogen.  相似文献

Inhaled particle deposition sites must be identified to effectively treat human airway diseases. We have determined distribution patterns of a selected aeroallergen, ragweed pollen, among human extrathoracic (ET: i.e., oro-nasopharyngeal) regions and the lung. A predictive model validated by inhalation exposure data from human subjects was utilized. Deposition locations were primarily functions of 1. ragweed particle parameters (size: 14–20 μm, shape: spherical, and density: 1.14 g cm-3) and 2. mode of breathing. In the general population, two styles of inhalation are prevalent: normal augmentors (NAs), and mouth breathers (MBs), their clinical definitions are based on intra-ET airflow divisions. For a NA-mode breathing, sedentary (10 L min-1) adult, 88% of inhaled ragweed pollen was removed by the ET compartment and 7% collected within the lung. For a MB, the respective deposition efficiencies were 68% and 25%. To apply the model, we used a daily springtime ragweed pollen concentration of 300 grains m-3 and an exposure time of 0.5 hour to calculate actual doses for the respiratory system. Under the stipulated conditions, a MB would inhale 45 pollen grains per day and 8 would be deposited in the lung; the value is 3 grains for a NA. Frequently, individuals with impaired respiratory functions are MBs in whom such pollen deposits are likely contributors to airway disease.  相似文献

This article builds on recent attempts to explain divergent uses of sub-state nationalism to push for policies of assimilation or multiculturalism and drive popular support for independence. It analyses the dynamics of discourses and policies in Spain before, during and after peak times of identity politics to provide a more nuanced understanding of the conditions leading to the activation of identity-driven policies. Substantive ethnographic evidence is presented to explain recent alterations to national discourses of identity, surprising reversals of immigration policies, and the modulation of Catalan and Basque independence movements. The main finding is that both identity discourses and resulting policies depend on the affinity for identity politics at the sub-state level, and this affinity is in large part primed by the popular perception of how secure sub-state national identity is against the ‘official’ state narrative.  相似文献

The antimicrobial activity of 19 propolis extracts prepared in different solvents (ethanol and propylene glycol) (EEP/PEP), was evaluated against some bacterial and fungal isolates using the agar-well diffusion method. It was verified that all the samples tested showed antimicrobial activity, although results varied considerably between samples. Results revealed that both types of propolis extracts showed highly sensitive antimicrobial action against Gram-positive bacteria and fungi at a concentration of 20% (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisae) with a minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 mg/ml, with a moderate effect against Streptococcus pyogenes (MIC from 17 to 26 mg/ml). To our knowledge, this is the first study showing elevated antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative bacteria [Salmonella enterica (MIC from 0.6 to 1.4 mg/ml)] and lesser activity against Helicobacter pylori (MIC from 6 to 14 mg/ml), while Escherichia coli was resistant. This concluded that the Basque propolis had a strong and dose-dependent activity against most of the microbial strains tested, while database comparison revealed that phenolic substances were responsible for this inhibition, regardless of their geographical origin and the solvent employed for extraction. 于2010年12月—2011年9月,2012年9月—2013年6月按季度采样对长江口北支水域氮、磷营养盐的季度变化规律、形态组成以及环境因子间相互关系进行了分析。结果显示溶解性无机氮存在形态主要是硝酸盐,占90%以上,浓度变化规律为夏秋高于春冬两季;溶解性无机氮、总氮峰值分别为3.99 mg/L及1.70 mg/L,均出现在2011年夏季,该现象与当年洪期长江流域连日降雨有关。长江径流所携带营养盐是导致北支无机氮、总磷浓度变化的主要原因。对理化因子进行相关性分析表明,盐度、pH值是营养盐最主要的限制因子。  相似文献

In the Nervion River estuary surface samples were taken from March to September 2003 at six sites covering most of the salinity range with the aim to know the biomass and taxonomic composition of phytoplankton assemblages in the different segments. Nine groups of algae including cyanobacteria, diatoms, dinoflagellates, chlorophytes, prasinophytes, euglenophytes, chrysophytes, haptophytes, raphidophytes and cryptophytes were identified by means of a combination of pigment analysis by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and microscopic observations of live and preserved cells. Diatoms, chlorophytes and cryptophytes were the most abundant algae in terms of cells number, whereas fucoxanthin, peridinin, chlorophyll b (Chl b) and alloxanthin were the most abundant auxiliary pigments. Based on multiple regression analysis, in the outer estuary (stations 0, 1, 2 and 3) about 93% of the chlorophyll a (Chl a) could be explained by algae containing fucoxanthin and by algae containing Chl b, whereas in the rest of the estuary most of the Chl a (about 98%) was accounted for by fucoxanthin, Chl b and alloxanthin containing algae. The study period coincided with that of most active phytoplankton growth in the estuary and fucoxanthin was by far the dominant among those signature pigments. Several diatoms, chrysophytes, haptophytes and raphydophytes were responsible for fucoxanthin among identified species. Besides, dinoflagellates with a pigment pattern corresponding to chrysophytes and type 4 haptophytes were identified among fucoxanthin-bearing algae. Cryptophytes were the most abundant species among those containing alloxanthin. The maximum of Chl b registered at the seaward end in April coincided with a bloom of the prasinophytes Cymbomonas tetramitiformis, whereas the Chl b maxima in late spring and summer were accounted for by prasinophytes in the middle and outer estuary and by several species of chlorophytes in the middle and inner estuary. Other Chl b containing algae were euglenophytes and the dinoflagellate Peridinium chlorophorum. Dinoflagellates constituted generally a minor component of the phytoplankton.  相似文献

We investigated seasonal dynamics of fish in tidepools on tidal mudflats in the Tama River estuary, Japan. A total of 1,156 individuals of 8 gobiid species were collected from May 2008 to April 2009. The total abundance of fishes peaked in September and October. Of three dominant species, Acanthogobius flavimanus was found only in spring and early summer, whereas Pseudogobius masago and Mugilogobius abei occurred in all seasons. The utilization patterns of tidepools with/without cobbles were different among the latter two species.  相似文献

根据2010年6月-2011年5月三沙湾海域5个航次海洋综合调查资料,对三沙湾浮游动物种群特征进行分析,并与我国不同纬度海湾生态类群结构进行比较.探讨三沙湾海域浮游动物生态类群季节变化特征及其受水团季节变化的影响.研究结果表明:4月和5月三沙湾海域主要受到浙闽沿岸流影响,生物多样性H'指数分别为2.03和2.02;种类数分别仅为17种和19种,明显低于6月、8月和10月;浮游动物生态类群以暖温带近海种为主;优势种种类数少,单一优势种优势性明显,4月中华哲水蚤丰度占浮游动物总丰度的65.03%;群落结构特征与同期我国长江口浮游动物区系特征相似.6月三沙湾海域受到浙闽沿岸流和台湾暖流共同影响,同时因闽北雨季导致大量大陆径流汇入,使得该月浮游动物种群结构复杂,生物多样性指数和种类数全年最高,为3.12和45种,与5月相比,种类更替明显,物种更替率为69.39%;亚热带近海种丰度百分比最高(73.03%),亚热带外海种种类数百分比次之(48.89%),是海域浮游动物生态类群由以暖温带近海种为主向以亚热带外海种为主的过渡时期.8月和10月浙闽沿岸流消失,三沙湾海域受台湾暖流控制,海水温度和盐度升高,生物多样性指数和种类数均略低于6月;生态类群结构以亚热带外海种为主;优势种特征表现为种类数多而各个优势种丰度较低;浮游动物群落结构特征与南海北部海域浮游动物组成极为相似.  相似文献

为揭示莱州湾砂壳纤毛虫群落季节变化规律, 在莱州湾设置8个站位, 于2011年5-11月及2012年3-4月进行了9个航次的调查, 用浅海III型浮游生物网由底至表垂直拖网采集砂壳纤毛虫。结果表明, 莱州湾3-11月砂壳纤毛虫物种丰富度的变化范围为5-19, 周年变化呈现一峰两谷的趋势。丰度的范围为0-318 ind./L, 丰度较大(> 50 ind./L)的种类有运动类铃虫(Codonellopsis mobilis)和清兰拟铃虫(Tintinnopsis chinglanensis)。各月平均丰度随时间的变化趋势为双峰型, 最大值出现在7月(63 ind./L), 次峰值出现在5月(48 ind./L), 最小值出现在3月(2 ind./L)。黏着壳种类在3-11月均有出现, 透明壳种类仅在温度较高(> 15°C)的6-9月出现。各月的优势种数目为1种(5月)到8种(8月), 其中运动类铃虫在所有月中都是优势种, 对砂壳纤毛虫丰度周年的变化规律产生较大影响。使用各月所有种类的平均丰度对各月砂壳纤毛虫群落进行聚类分析, 得到两个群落(相似度30%): 群落I(7-9月)和群落II(3-6月、10-11月), 说明砂壳纤毛虫群落发生了明显的季节变化。砂壳纤毛虫的物种丰富度、丰度与环境因子(温度、盐度)均没有明显的相关性。  相似文献

Digital dermatoglyphics of an indigenous sample of 87 males and 101 females from the Urola Valley in the Spanish Basque Country are compared with those from the nine other Basque valleys previously analyzed. In both sexes of the Urola Valley, there is a very high frequency of radial loops; the mean found in this valley extends the range of variation for South European-Mediterranean populations, and it is in the superior limit of all Caucasian populations. There are bimanual and sex differences in the frequencies of whorls and loops. Contrary to what occurs normally in populations, in the Urola Valley the frequency of whorls is higher in females and the quantitative value of digital patterns is lower in males. The results of this study show the existence of heterogeneity among valleys for digital trait frequencies and for finger ridge count, and this heterogeneity is more marked in females.  相似文献

Aims and methods

To evaluate the seasonal and spatial variations of methane (CH4) emissions and understand the controlling factors, we measured CH4 fluxes and their environmental variables for the first time by a static chamber technique in high Suaeda salsa marsh (HSM), middle S. salsa marsh (MSM), low S. salsa marsh (LSM) and bare flat (BF) in the northern Yellow River estuary throughout a year.

Results

CH4 emissions from coastal marsh varied throughout different times of the day and significant differences were observed in some sampling periods (p?<?0.05). Over all sampling periods, CH4 fluxes averaged between ?0.392 mgCH4 m?2?h?1 and 0.495 mgCH4 m?2?h?1, and emissions occurred during spring (0.008 mgCH4 m?2?h?1) and autumn (0.068 mgCH4 m?2?h?1) while sinks were observed during summer (?0.110 mgCH4 m?2?h?1) and winter (?0.009 mgCH4 m?2?h?1). CH4 fluxes from the four marshes were not significantly different (p?>?0.05), and emissions occurred in LSM (0.026 mgCH4 m?2?h?1) and BF (0.055 mgCH4 m?2?h?1) while sinks were observed in HSM (?0.035 mgCH4 m?2?h?1) and MSM (?0.022 mgCH4 m?2?h?1). The annual average CH4 flux from the intertidal zone was 0.002 mgCH4 m?2?h?1, indicating that coastal marsh acted as a weak CH4 source. Temporal variations of CH4 emission were related to the interactions of abiotic factors (temperatures, soil moisture and salinity) and the variations of limited C and mineral N in sediments, while spatial variations were mainly affected by the vegetation composition at spatial scale.

Conclusions

This study observed a large spatial variation of CH4 fluxes across the coastal marsh of the Yellow River estuary (CV?=?7856.25 %), suggesting that the need to increase the spatial replicates at fine scales before the regional CH4 budget was evaluated precisely. With increasing exogenous nitrogen loading to the Yellow River estuary, the magnitude of CH4 emission might be enhanced, which should also be paid more attentions as the annual CH4 inventory was assessed accurately.  相似文献

The dynamics of phytoplankton size structure were investigatedin the freshwater, transitional and estuarine zones of the YorkRiver over an annual cycle. The contribution of large cells(microplankton, >20 µm) to total concentrations ofchlorophyll a increased downstream during winter, whereas thatof small cells (nanoplankton, 3–20 µm; picoplankton,<3 µm) increased downstream during summer. In the freshwaterregion, the contribution of micro phytoplankton to total concentrationsof chlorophyll a was significant during warm seasons (springand summer) but not during colder seasons (winter), whereasthe contribution of small-sized cells (especially picoplankton)increased during cold seasons. Temperature, light and high flushingrate appear to control phytoplankton community structure inthe freshwater region. In the transitional region, nano-sizedcells dominated the phytoplankton population throughout allseasons except during the spring bloom (April) when the chlorophylla concentration of micro phytoplankton increased. Size structurein the transitional region is most likely regulated by lightavailability. In the mesohaline region, nano- and pico-sizedcells dominated the phytoplankton population during the summerbloom, whereas micro-sized cells dominated during the winterbloom. Factors controlling phytoplankton community size structurein the mesohaline zone may be riverine nitrogen input, temperatureand/or advective transport from up-river. Based on these results,the spatial and seasonal variations in size structure of phytoplanktonobserved on the estuarine scale may be determined both by thedifferent preferences for nutrients and by different light requirementsof micro-, nano- and picoplankton. The results suggest thatanalyses of phytoplankton size structure are necessary to betterunderstand controls on phytoplankton dynamics and to bettermanage water quality in river-dominated, estuarine systems.  相似文献

This study examines the genetic variation in Basque Y chromosome lineages using data on 12 Y-short tandem repeat (STR) loci in a sample of 158 males from four Basque provinces of Spain (Alava, Vizcaya, Guipuzcoa, and Navarre). As reported in previous studies, the Basques are characterized by high frequencies of haplogroup R1b (83%). AMOVA analysis demonstrates genetic homogeneity, with a small but significant amount of genetic structure between provinces (Y-short tandem repeat loci STRs: 1.71%, p = 0.0369). Gene and haplotype diversity levels in the Basque population are on the low end of the European distribution (gene diversity: 0.4268; haplotype diversity: 0.9421). Post-Neolithic contribution to the paternal Basque gene pool was estimated by measuring the proportion of those haplogroups with a Time to Most Recent Common Ancestor (TMRCA) previously dated either prior (R1b, I2a2) or subsequent to (E1b1b, G2a, J2a) the Neolithic. Based on these estimates, the Basque provinces show varying degrees of post-Neolithic contribution in the paternal lineages (10.9% in the combined sample).  相似文献

The community of aquatic hyphomycetes associated with decomposing alder leaf litter was studied during autumn-winter in nine headwater reference streams of the Basque Country (northern Spain). In order to study the spatial variability in composition and community structure, three streams from each of three different river basins were compared. The colonization dynamics and community changes throughout the decomposition process were also followed in three of the rivers (one per basin). The taxonomic richness and community structure of these fungi varied among rivers, including similar streams of a given watershed. However, neither species diversity nor total abundance was statistically related to environmental variables. Only the conidial production of two of the species, Flagellospora curvula and Lunulospora curvula appeared to be enhanced by nitrate availability in the water. The taxonomic richness and the reproductive activity (sporulation rate) were positively related to the leaf litter decomposition rate. The changes in conidial production along the process were similar for all the streams and helped explain leaf litter quality dynamics.  相似文献

A comparative study is made in order to establish relationships between floristic and bioclimatic gradient. An east-west strip of about 200 Km in the inner area of the Basque Country has been chosen.Quercus faginea andQuercus pubescens forests have been studied. The climatic parameters of eight meteorological stations located within the area have also been analysed. The results obtained show the existence of four different forest types, which can be easily distinguished among themselves. They extend following the geographical longitude. The eastern ones can be related to a more continental character, the western ones to a more mediterranean one.
Resumen Se realiza un estudio comparativo con objeto de establecer relaciones entre un gradiente florístico y el determinado por diversos parámetros climáticos. Para ello se han estudiado los bosques deQuercus faginea y Quercus pubescens en una franja este-oeste de unos 200 km de longitud, en la zona interior del área vasco-navarra. Se han analizado los parámetros climáticos de ocho estaciones meteorológicas localizadas, en su mayoría, dentro del área. El análisis fitosociológico de los bosques permite distinguir cuatro tipos que se pueden agrupar en dos asociaciones con dos subasociaciones cada una. Su distribución a lo largo de la longitud geográfica se correlaciona con un clima más continental hacia el este y más mediterráneo hacia poniente.
