The effect of UV-B on the photosynthetic apparatus of coniferous trees: Picea abies (L.) Karst., Picea pungens (Engelm.), Pinus sylvestris (L.), Pinus cembra (L.) and Abies alba (Mill.) was investigated. Three and four-year-old plantlets coming from different latitudes, longitudes and altitudes were used. The experiment was carried out in greenhouse. Two doses of ultraviolet-B irradiation were applied: control=0, low dose=11.32 and high dose=22.64 kJ·m−2·d−1 UV-BBE (biologically effective irradiance of UV-B). Measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence, gas exchange, chlorophyll and flavonoids content were carried out. Response of forest trees to an increased UV-B radiation depends on species, location of place of pantalets collecting and UV-B dose. Pinus cembra, Picea abies and Pinus sylvestris from high altitude (1000 m a.s.l.) were less sensitive to UV-B than these from plain location. The altitude determined adaptation of forest coniferous trees to an enhanced UV-B radiation much more than the latitudinal gradient. Permanent discoloration was observed only on the young needles of the fir plantlets that were grown in light limiting conditions. Photosynthetic parameters were affected by the UV-B radiation. Both maximal and the steady state fluorescence of chlorophyll were reduced as a consequence of elevated UV-B in case of some species. The chlorophyll content was enhanced, increased or was not affected according to species and to locations. The flavonoids content in the needles increased with chlorophyll content at both UV-B treatments. An opposite trend was found in the control. The increased content of screening pigments in the needles of all the tested coniferous trees was detected. Picea abies and Picea pungens photosynthesis response curves to the light and to the intercellular CO2 concentration did not change significantly under increased UV-B because of higher concentration in screening pigments in leaves. The increased concentration of flavonoids in forest litter may lead to changes in the biogeochemical cycle in the forest ecosystem.  相似文献

Pollen analysis was carried out on lacustrine sediment of a small hollow (15 m x 25 m) at the treeless sub-Alpine belt (202 m) of the inner Maurienne valley in the northern French Alps. A 2,500-year-long maple settlement was demonstrared. Three AMS dates of terrestrial plant macroremains support the chronology. First, Betula and Salix spread prior to 9,000 C14 BP. The first pollen grains of Acer, Abies and Pinus cembra are quoted at 8,600 C14 BP. High frequencies of Alnus glutinosa/incana (20%) and Acer (10%) show that mixed communities of Acer and Alnus persisted above the mountainous Abies forest between 7,490 and 5,850 C14 BP. After 5,850 C14 BP, the decrease in Acer stands could be attributed to fire as suggested by the strong increase in Betula and by the delayed expansion of Pinus cembra.  相似文献

Forest compositional patterns in Yosemite National Park, California, were related to environmental factors through numerical classification of forest types, arrangement of forest types along elevational and topographic gradients, and development of regression models relating basal area of common tree species to environmental variables. The eight forest types are differentiated primarily by elevation zone and secondarily by topographic setting. Lower montane forests (1200–1900 m) were divided into the Abies concolor/Calocedrus type occurring primarily on mesic sites and the Pinus ponderosa/Calocedrus type predominantly on xeric sites. Upper montane forests (1900–2500 m) included the Abies concolor/Abies magnifica type on mesic sites, the Abies magnifica/Pinus type on somewhat more xeric sites, and Juniperus occidentalis/Pinus jeffreyi woodlands on granitic domes. Subalpine forests (2500–3300 m) embraced three types: Tsuga mertensiana/Pinus forests on mesic sites, monotypic Pinus contorta forests on drier sites, and Pinus albicaulis/Pinus contorta groves at treeline. Regression models consistently included elevation and soil magnesium content as explanatory variables of species basal area totals. The two Abies spp. were negatively correlated with soil magnesium levels, whereas other montane species (e.g. Calocedrus decurrens, Pinus lambertiana, and Pinus ponderosa) exhibited positive correlation with soil magnesium. Topography and soil physical properties were only infrequently incorporated into species regression models.Abbreviations DBH= diameter at breast height (1.4 m) - DCA= detrended correspondence analysis - TWINSPAN= two-way indicator species analysis  相似文献

Chroogomphus rutilus is a rare fungal species that grows under pine trees and is now widely used as a functional food and pharmaceutical product. However, the chemical constituents and biological activities of Chroogomphus rutilus have been relatively limited. The present study aimed at determining the total polyphenols and flavonoids contents, biological activities and main phenolic compounds of Chroogomphus rutilus from different geographical origins at the stipe and pileus. The results suggested that Chroogomphus rutilus polyphenol extracts revealed a higher antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and cytotoxic activities, and there were significant differences between samples from different locations and regions. Correlation analysis showed that the contents of total polyphenols and flavonoids were significantly correlated with antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory activities. However, only the content of total flavonoids was significantly correlated with cytotoxicity, which means that the cytotoxicity of Chroogomphus rutilus polyphenol extracts may be regulated by flavonoids or other compounds. HPLC‐DAD analysis revealed that the main phenolic compound was protocatechuic acid, followed by baicalin, p‐hydroxyphenylacetic acid and p‐hydroxybenzoic acid, but comparing with the pileus extracts, the stipe extracts can be considered as a higher concentration of phenolic compounds. Therefore, antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory and cytotoxic activities of Chroogomphus rutilus polyphenol extracts could be due to the identified compounds. This study investigated a deep knowledge about the constituents and activities of Chroogomphus rutilus and provided the reference for its application in food and pharmaceutical.  相似文献

Summary Soil profiles were made at three locations corresponding to the three principal coniferous groups:Pinus montezumae, Abies religiosa andPinus hartwegii. The soil samples were submitted to microbiological, physical and chemical analysis. Mycorrhizic fungi were collected throughout this zone and 25 species of ectotrophic and 1 facultative mycorrhizic fungiLaccaria laccata were found.Lycoperdon perlatum andHygrophorus chrysodon were in the three communities, as wellAmanita muscaria, Boletus granulatus andCantharellus cibarius were only in the Pinus communities. The experimental condition used in order to prove symbiosis showed us several symbionts in the root for each one of the three different conifers. As regards general microflora, the greatest number of bacteria and fungi was present in the surface horizon of Abies soil; these soils are deep and moist throughout the year and with a good drainage, so that seasonal variations have little or no effect on soil environmental conditions and that favors the microbiological development. In the soils of the Pinus communities the number of actinomycetes and of bacteria is higher immediately below the surface horizon.  相似文献

Southern Siberian mountain ranges encompass strong climatic contrasts from the relatively oceanic northern foothills to strongly continental intermountain basins in the south. Landscape-scale climatic differences create vegetation patterns, which are analogous to the broad-scale vegetation zonation over large areas of northern Eurasia. In their southern, continental areas, these mountains harbour forest types which potentially resemble the full-glacial forests recently reconstructed for Central Europe. To identify forest vegetation–environment relationships in the southern Siberian mountain ranges, forest vegetation of the Western Sayan Mountains was sampled on a 280 km transect running from the northern foothills with oceanic climatic features to the continental Central Tuvinian Basin in the south. Based on the species composition, vegetation was classified into hemiboreal forests, occurring at drier and summer-warm sites with high-pH soil, and taiga, occurring at wetter, summer-cool sites with acidic soil. Hemiboreal forests included Betula pendula-Pinus sylvestris mesic forest, Larix sibirica dry forest and Pinus sylvestris dry forest. Taiga included Abies sibirica-Betula pendula wet forest, Abies sibirica-Pinus sibirica mesic forest and Pinus sibirica-Picea obovata continental forest. Hemiboreal forests were richer in vascular plant species, while taiga was richer in ground-dwelling cryptogams. Vegetation–environment relationships were analysed by indirect and direct ordination. Winter and summer temperatures and precipitation exerted a dominant influence on species composition. Soil pH was also an important correlate of species composition, but this factor itself was probably controlled by precipitation. At a more local scale, the main source of variation in species composition was topography, producing landscape patterns of contrasting plant communities on slopes of different aspects and valley bottoms. The response of tree species to major environmental factors was expressed with Huisman–Olff–Fresco models. Larix sibirica appeared to be most resistant to drought and winter frosts, Pinus sibirica was adapted to low temperatures both in winter and summer, and Picea obovata had an intermediate response to climate. Betula pendula, Pinus sylvestris and Populus tremula were associated with the warmest sites with intermediate precipitation, while Abies sibirica was the most moisture-demanding species, sensitive to deep winter frosts.  相似文献

Summary The evaluation of biomass production and uptake of N, P, K, Ca, and Mg for various plant components (roots, stems, and foliage) and totals by 10 species of 2-0 coniferous seedlings grown at a controlled range of densities in a highly productive forest nursery documents considerable differences among species and seedling parameters. The species are ranked by biomass and nutrient-element relationships on a unit area of seedbed basis, quantifying the magnitude of the differences among the species at the various density levels. The 10 species include Abies balsamea, Larix leptolepis, Picea abies, Picea glauca, Picea mariana, Picea pungens, Pinus resinosa, Pinus strobus, Pinus sylvestris, and Pseudotsuga menziesii.Contribution of the Forest Resources Council, School of Environmental and Resource Management, State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Syracuse, New York 13210.Contribution of the Forest Resources Council, School of Environmental and Resource Management, State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Syracuse, New York 13210.  相似文献

Every other week over their second growing season, stem height, collar diameter, shoot and root dry masses, number of lateral roots and length of the tap root were measured on nursery grown seedlings ofAbies balsamea L. Mill.,Pinus banksiana Lamb.,Pinus resinosa Ait.,Picea mariana Mill. BSP andPicea glauca Moench Voss. Root elongation, branching and mycorrhizal development were also recorded.Given species showed distinct seasonal growth patterns. The rate and timing of maximum root growth (mg/dry weight/week) differed markedly between species.Except for the increase in height ofPinus banksiana, root and shoot growth were not negatively correlated. The results are discussed in relation to the performance of tree seedlings in the nursery.  相似文献

A probe for chalcone synthase (CHS) was generated by PCR using chalcone synthase conserved sequences. The cloned PCR product has high similarity to both chalcone synthase and stilbene synthase sequences. The probe was used to examine the organization of chalcone synthase and stilbene synthase genes in Abies procera, Pinus lambertiana, P. monticola, Picea glauca, P. sitchensis, Pseudostuga menziesii, Taxus brevifolia, and Thuja plicata. A large number of hybridizing bands were found in all species except T. plicata which did not cross hybridize. The hybridization patterns are highly polymorphic between the species and are also polymorphic within several of them.  相似文献

Ethanol synthesis was induced in stem segments from greenhouse-grown conifer seedlings by placing them in a N2 atmosphere at 30 °C for 24 h. Stems from ponderosa pine,Pinus ponderosa Dougl. ex Laws., sugar pine,Pinus lambertiana Dougl., Pacific silver fir,Abies amabalis Dougl. ex Forbes, and lodgepole pine,Pinus contorta Dougl. ex Loud, produced the highest quantities of ethanol. This group also had the smallest and slowest growing stems. Within each of these species the amount of ethanol produced was inversely related to the stem volume. Stems from western hemlock,Tsuga heterophylla (Raf.) Sarg., grand fir, Abies grandis Dougl. ex Forbes, Douglas-fir,Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco, and western redcedar,Thuja plicata Donn ex D. Don, all produced equivalent but low ethanol concentrations. These species had the largest and fastest growing stems. In this group only grand fir exhibited an inverse relationship between ethanol concentrations and stem volume. The relative amounts of ethanol synthesized by stems from Douglas-fir, western hemlock and western redcedar seedlings were not the same as subsequently observed in logs from mature trees of the same species under field conditions. Differences in the anaerobic environments for the two stem types could have affected the quantities of ethanol produced. The observed high amounts of ethanol produced by the stems from pine species were discussed in terms of their ability to handle periods of anaerobic stress or hypoxia.  相似文献

This paper focuses on growth pattern of seedlings from tree-ring proxies and their performance at different altitudes under high disturbance regime. The disturbance is predominately anthropogenic. Four conifer species found during investigations, namely, Pinus wallichiana, Pinus roxburghii, Cedrus deodara and Abies pindrow. The parameters chosen for assessment of regeneration potential were age and growth rate. In addition, edaphic and topographic characteristics of thirty disturbed forest stands were also determined. The stands were deterministically selected because these were deteriorating with respect to tree population, biodiversity and degradation of soil. Seedling density varied in the order: P. wallichianaPinus roxburghii > C. deodara > Abies pindrow while the growth rate was exhibited in the order Pinus roxburghii > P. wallichiana > Abies pindrow > C. deodara. These findings suggest that Pinus roxburghii is the most suitable species (sub tropical species) at lower elevations (~1600–1900 a.s.l.) with regard to its regenerative ability and consequently potentially useful for the conservation of these forests. P. wallichiana showed highly significant (P < 0.01) correlations with PC1 (primarily controlled by total dissolved salts and water holding capacity) only whereas Abies pindrow was highly correlated (P < 0.001 and P < 0.01) with PC1 and PC2 respectively (function of oxidative-reductive potential and water holding capacity) while C. deodara and Pinus roxburghii did not show correlation with any of the PCA components. In the light of current findings, Pinus roxburghii was found to be effectively adapted to the environment of the study area. Growth rate of species steadily decreased in response to unfavorable conditions. The other pine species i.e. P. wallichiana (moist temperate species) also showed some degree of adaptability under the influence of predefined environmental attributes. Hence pines are most likely the species that can be able to retain forest cover in future and are the best choice for restoration of these forests. However, the other conifers i.e. C. deodara and Abies pindrow are also able to withstand the physiographic characteristics and the extent of perturbation and persisting possibly beyond their tolerance limits but they need to be preserved and retained in these forests. Conifers are still giving positive response with respect to growth rate and their adaptive compatibility to such an extent that this forest can recover if management and conservation strategies are implemented. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that seedlings and saplings should be conserved to assure future forest cover.  相似文献

Summary In West Pakistan 17 species of Gymnosperms are found wild. Out of these 13 species belong to the conifers and 4 species are of Ephedra. In the Plains only Ephedra foliata Borss. is found. In the outer ranges of Kashmir, Murree Hills, Hazara, Swat and Dir which are under the dominant influence of summer monsoon rains only Conifers consisting of Pinus roxburgii Sarg. Pinus wallichiana A.B.Jacks., Picea smithiana Boiss., Taxus baccata L., Abies pindrow Spach., Abies spectabis Royle are found and are indigenous to the Western Himalayas with the exception of Taxus baccata L. These species show relationship with those found in the Mediterranean and temperate Central European regions. There is not much resemblance between these and the Conifers of adjoining Eastern Himalayas. The Conifers and the Ephedra species found in Quetta, Waziristan, Kurram, Chitral, Gilgit, Indus Kohistan and Upper parts of Dir, Swat, Kaghan and Kishan Ganga which are under the dominant influence of winter rains are inhibited by elements of Pak-Turanio floristic region. The species belonging to this category are Cedrus deodara Loud., Pinus gerardiana Wall., Juniperus macropoda Boiss., Juniperus communis L., Ephedra gerardiana Wall. and Ephedra intermedia Sabr. et C.A.May. Plants of this region show clear affinities with the flora of the Mediterranean region. In the northern parts like Chitral and Gilgit central Asian elements are represented by Ephedra przewalskii Stapf and Juniperus turkestanica Kom.

We investigated patterns of winter feeding tree choice in 4 groups of Sichuan snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus roxellanae) in Shennongjia Nature Reserve, China. We collected data during 2 winters from 1998 to 2000. The monkeys used mature forest, young forest and shrub forest, but not grassland. Groups used tree species in a significantly nonrandom pattern. There was a similar composition of preferred tree species between different habitats for each group and among the same habitat types for different groups. They preferred Abies fargesii, Pinus armandii and Salix walliciana for foraging. The 3 species occur in varying degrees of abundance in different habitats and were used differently by the 4 groups. The difference is probably due to interhabitat differences in availability of tree species, in addition to microclimate. The mean circumference of a tree had little effect on its preference score, but preferred species tend to be larger. A Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated that the percentage of trees used and average number of feeding bites per tree is significantly greater for larger trees. For all trees in a given habitat, the percentage of trees used and average number of bites per tree have a significant positive correlation with average tree circumference. Our results indicate that Rhinopithecus roxellanae prefer to feed in large trees more than small trees in a given habitat, thereby preferring mature forest habitat. There is also a group-size effect; larger groups used higher-quality habitats than those of smaller groups. Both tree species and size are the major determinants of feeding choice, but tree species is more important than tree size. Our results have at least three implications for winter habitat conservation of Sichuan snub-nosed monkeys. Conservation efforts should be focused on mature forest because it is better habitat at Rhinopithecus than young forest, as long as the same tree species are present. Secondly, Pinus armandii, Abies fargesii and Salix walliciana should be conserved as top priority in forest communities. Third, the largest trees in each habitat should be given greatest possible protection.  相似文献

Abstract

Researches into the fossil pollens in some localities of Calabria (Sila Piccola and Serre), with observations about the present vegetation. — This study concerns two groups of localities both in the province of Catanzaro (Calabria): the former in Sila Piccola and the latter in Serre. The authors refer the principal local characteristics of the two regions: geological nature, short pedological notes and climate. Some tables are shown (tab. 1, 2 and 3) with thermic and pluviometric data of some localities nearest to the studied areas. BAGNOULS and GAUSSEN'S xerothermic diagram (fig. 2) is made for these localities. Great evidence is given to the fresh and oceanic character of the climate of the tablelands of the Serre, in relation to the more continental one of the Sila Piccola with its rigorous winters and dry, hot summers. This seems to justify the difference of distribution of the arboreous vegetation existing between the two regions. In fact, in the Sila Piccola, the vegetation belt between 1000 and 1500 mts., is occupied by woods almost entirely of Pinus laricio, while in the Serre, the same vegetation belt is occupied by Abies alba and Fagus silvatica. These two latter species can be found in Sila Piccola above 1500 mts. The authors shortly describe the pollen analysis of several peat bogs, and the criteria used for the floristic surveys and stational tests. In the Sila Piccola five areas are examined (fig. 3), three in the Serre (fig. 7). From the borings made in the Sila it is possible to obtain the pollen diagram for three localities (Spinarva, Tirivolo, Macchia dell'Orso, figg. 4, 5 and 6). On the contrary, in no areas of the Serre any fossil pollen has been found. In fig. 8 the forest cycles of the Sila Piccola are synchronized with those of other localities in the North and Central Apennines. The examination of the pollen diagrams allows some considerations: the pine-woods of the Sila (presumably Pinus laricio) have rather ancient origin in the post-glacial period. In the past they had a larger diffusion also in areas where now grow woods of Fagus silvatica with Abies alba (Spinarva and Macchia dell'Orso) and in some periods with a climate different from the present one. The pollen diagram of Spinarva shows that the antagonism we found in the Sila, as in the whole of the Apennines, between Abies alba and Fagus silvatica, is characterized by three distinct phases. The discovery of the pollen of Picea (figs. 4 and 6), is very interesting because it proves the presence of the red spruce in the calabrian mountains during the post-glacial period. The authors describe the localities where the borings were made together with the tests of the structure of the arboreous vegetation surrounding such localities, and the floristic surveys. As to the woods of Pinus laricio, we notice the lack of a characteristic florula. In fact, this is very heterogeneous. Nevertheless the prevailing species have a helio-xerophilous character, according well with the character of Pinus laricio itself. The beech-woods of the Sila Piccola generally have a high density and as regard the cultivation are of contemporary type. In their interior we notice few mesophilous species with rare species with more helio-xerophilous character. The presence of many young plants of Abies alba is very important. These vegetate with difficulty in the interior of the dense beech-wood. Where the arboreous canopy diminuishes, and in the glades, the silver fir develops and grows vigorously (fig. 13). Thus we observe, in the Sila Piccola, a dynamic competition, still existing, between Abies and Fagus, just as in the past. The authors suggest to favour the expansion of silver fir in the beech-wood, on the occasion of cultural interventions in the forest, in order to reach a suitable balanced mixture between these two species. It is interesting to note the presence of Ranunculus brutius and Phyteuma trichocalycinum (figs. 9 and 10) in the beech-woods of the Sila Piccola. The analysis of the vegetation and that of the climatic elements and the relevés made in the fir-wood of Serra San Bruno, show that the higher parts of the Serre are particulary suitable for a mesophilous vegetation, dominated by Fagus silvatica and Abies alba. As regards Pinus laricio, we may say that, in the region of the Serre, it does not find very favourable conditions for developing. The authors, finally, suggest some cultural directions to be followed in the reafforestations in the region of the Serre.  相似文献

Summary The occurrence of vegetative storage proteins in the leaf and bark tissues of several softwood species during overwintering was investigated by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide electrophoresis. Monthly protein profiles from leaves and bark of six evergreen softwood species (Pinus strobus, P. sylvestris, Picea abies, P. glauca, Abies balsamea, and Thuja occidentalis) and the bark of one deciduous softwood species (Larix decidua) suggest that storage proteins are present in bark tissues of L. decidua, Pinus sylvestris, and P. strobus. The remaining species did not show similar specific proteins. However, the total soluble protein content which was determined during active growth and during overwintering in the same tissues indicated that protein levels were higher in the winter compared to the summer in the bark of all species and in the leaves of Pinus spp. and T. occidentalis. While vegetative storage proteins do not appear prevalent in all softwood species, proteins may constitute a major form of overwintering nitrogen storage for many species.  相似文献

Population age structure and succession were investigated in subalpine forests in the Colorado Front Range dominated by Pinus flexilis (limber pine). Age, size, and spatial data were collected from three recent burns (<100 yr old), six ca. 240 year-old post-fire stands, and two old-growth stands (individuals > 400 yr old). The sequence of colonization of now extant trees on these post-fire sites appeared to be consistent: first Pinus flexilis, then Picea engelmannii (Engelmann spruce), and later Abies lasiocarpa (subalpine fir) with a delay between the first Pinus flexilis and Abies of as long as 140 yr. The advantage of Pinus flexilis on post-burn sites can be attributed to avian seed dispersal and the exceptional drought tolerance of its seedlings. The three recent burns were not extensive, and the delay in establishment of Picea and Abies appeared to be limited by harsh site conditions rather than lack of seed dispersal. Spatial analysis indicated a consistent, although sometimes weak, attraction between Pinus flexilis and Picea and Pinus flexilis and Abies at a scale of 1–4 m, suggesting that Pinus flexilis may facilitate establishment of Picea and Abies seedlings by providing shade or protection from wind. On xeric to slightly xeric sites, Pinus flexilis appeared to form broadly even-aged, non-regenerating populations that were gradually being replaced by Picea and Abies. Replacement is proceeding at a faster rate on the least xeric sites (north aspects, valley bottoms) compared to the most xeric sites (south aspects). On the most extreme sites, Pinus flexilis formed all-aged, self-maintaining populations with no evidence of replacement by Picea and Abies. In these old-growth forests with occasional trees aged at > 1300 yr, recruitment is continuous or episodic.  相似文献

Abies nebrodensis (Lojac.) Mattei (Sicilian fir) is an endangered species represented by only one population of 29 adult individuals occurring in a limited area of the Madonie Range in northern Sicily (Italy). Taxonomic boundaries between this taxon and the neighboring Abies species are not clear. In this study, we used six chloroplast simple-sequence repeats (cpSSRs) to investigate the population genetic structure and the distribution of chloroplast haplotypic variation in A. nebrodensis and three of the neighboring Abies species: Abies alba (Mill.), Abies numidica (De Lann) and Abies cepha-lonica (Loud.). Our aims were to quantify the level of cpDNA differentiation within the Abies populations and to shed light on the history of A. nebrodensis. Diversity levels based on the haplotype frequency at six cpSSRs were high, especially in A. alba and A. cephalonica. In all, we found 122 haplotypes among the 169 individuals analyzed, and the four species were distinguished from each other by their haplotype composition. The majority of the haplotypes (76%) were detected only once, but in A. nebrodensis seven individuals (41% of the sample population) shared the same haplotype. Moreover, the seven A. nebrodensis individuals with an identical haplotype showed a tendency to be geographically grouped within the population"s limited range. The analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed a significant difference in the level of apportionment of gene diversity between the species A. alba and A. cephalonica (FST=0.191 and 0.012, respectively). AMOVA analysis conducted over all populations from the four species showed that 19% of the total cpSSR variation was attributable to differences among species, 6% was due to differences among populations within species, and 74% to differences within populations. The high percentage of unique haplotypes identified confirms the power of cpSSR haplotype analysis for identifying individual trees in individual Abies populations. Our results indicate that A. nebrodensis differs from the other three Abies species investigated and support its classification as an independent taxon. The results also showed a decreased level of variation in A. nebrodensis and suggested that the species has experienced a genetic bottleneck during the last two centuries. The patterns of pollen deposition in the upper layers of the soil and in biological traps (mosses and lichens) in relation to the widespread and well known vegetational types of the Alps is investigated. The communities studied are beach woods, pine woods (Pinus cembra, P. sylveslris) and alpine pastures. Quantitative correlations between the pollen spectra and the vegetation have been calculated and over, under and equi-represented species delimited. Since representativity differs, in some cases, from that recorded in the literature it is suggested that it would be useful to continue the study in order to improve our understanding of actual pollen deposition and, as a consequence, of the interpretation of fossil pollen data.  相似文献

1 The pine processionary moth Thaumetopoea pityocampa is expanding its geographical range in Europe, as a consequence of enhanced winter survival under a warmer climate. A combination of daytime nest temperatures and night air temperatures determines the number of hours larvae are able to feed (hours above realized feeding threshold, RFT). 2 We tested the RFT‐based model for survival across multiple areas of the insect’s range in the Italian Alps over a 2‐year period. In a series of translocation experiments using natural temperature gradients as spatial analogues for global warming, we transferred colonies of T. pityocampa larvae to sites within zones of historical distribution, recent distribution, and outside the present range. The sites included traditional (Pinus nigra, Pinus sylvestris) as well as novel (Pinus mugo, Pinus uncinata, Pinus cembra) hosts. 3 Survival during precold (August to November), cold (December to February) and postcold (March to May) periods were analysed against climatic variables (temperature and rainfall) and predictors developed by the model. 4 Host species did not significantly affect final survival, with the exception of slower larval development, and resulting lower cold tolerance, on P. cembra than on P. mugo at the same site. 5 Across all the sites and hosts, final survival of colonies depended on the number of feeding hours during the cold period (RFT), which explained 82% of the variance in a regression model. We recommend using RFT, or its surrogate daily mean minimum temperature when nest temperature is not available, in predictive models of range expansion of T. pityocampa under climate change scenarios.  相似文献
