We investigated pollen dispersal and breeding structure in the tropical tree species Caryocar brasiliense Camb. (Caryocaraceae), using genetic data from ten microsatellite loci. All adult trees (101) within a patch of 8.3 ha were sampled, and from these adults 18 open-pollinated maternal progeny arrays were analyzed (280 seeds from 265 fruits). Most fruits presented only one seed (median equal to 1.000) and mean number of ripened seeds per fruit was 1.053 (SD = 0.828). Our results showed that C. brasiliense presents a mixed-mating system, with 11.4% of self-pollination, multilocus outcrossing rate of t m = 0.891 ± 0.025, and high probability of full-sibship within progeny arrays (r p = 0.135 ± 0.032). Outcrossing rate and self-pollination varied significantly among mother trees. We could detect a maximum pollen dispersal distance of ∼500 m and a mean pollen dispersal distance of ∼132 m. However, most pollination events (80%) occurred at distances less than 200 m. Our results also indicated that pollen dispersal is restricted to a neighborhood of 5.4 ha with rare events of immigration (∼1% N e m = 0.35). C. brasiliense also presents a significant but weak spatial genetic structure (Sp = 0.0116), and extension of pollen dispersal distance was greater than seed dispersal (N b = 86.20 m). These results are most likely due to the foraging behavior of pollinators that may have limited flight range. The highly within-population synchronous flowering, high population density, and clumped distribution reinforce pollinator behavior and affect residence time leading to a short-distance pollen dispersal.  相似文献

Annona crassiflora (Annonaceae) is a protogynous beetle-pollinated savannah tree species, widely distributed in the savannahs of the Cerrado biome. Studies on the mating system and pollen dispersal of protogynous species are very scarce. Here, we used six microsatellite loci to assess the mating system and pollen dispersal of A. crassiflora in a savannah remnant in Central Brazil. We mapped and sampled leaves of 112 adult trees and collected 74 fruits from 20 mother trees (1–4 fruits per plant) to obtain the seeds used (460) for mating system and parentage analyses. Annona crassiflora has predominantly allogamous mating systems, with a high multilocus outcrossing rate (tm?=?0.974, SE?=?0.011) that did not differ among mother trees (F?=?1.32, p?=?0.165). However, tmts was variable among seed trees, indicating that some seeds were produced by mating among relatives. Our results also showed multiple paternity within fruits. Multilocus correlation of outcrossed paternity was high (rp?=?0.302, SE?=?0.045), indicating that for each mother tree, the probability that the same pollen donor sired two random sibs was 30.2%, and the mean number of pollen donors per mother tree was high (6.3). We detected a maximum pollen dispersal distance of 360.7 m and an average of 124.3 m (SD?=?80 m), but most pollination events (73%) occurred at shorter distances (<?160 m), indicating short-distance pollen dispersal, most likely due to the pollinator behaviour.  相似文献

Habitat fragmentation might significantly affect mating and pollen dispersal patterns in plant populations, contributing to the decline of remnant populations. However, wind-pollinated species are able to disperse pollen at longer distances after opening of the canopy. Our objectives were to characterize the mating system parameters and to estimate the average distance of effective pollen dispersal in the wind-pollinated conifer Austrocedrus chilensis. We sampled 19 “mother trees,” 200 progeny, and 81 additional adults (both male and female), in a fragmented population at the Argentinean Patagonian steppe. We registered the spatial positions of individuals and genotyped all samples with five microsatellite markers. We found a high genetic diversity, a moderated rate of biparental inbreeding (t m? ??t s?=?0.105), and a complete absence of correlated paternity (r p?=??0.015). The effective number of pollen donors contributing to a single mother (N ep) was 13.9. Applying TWOGENER, we estimated a low but significant differentiation among the inferred pollen pools (ΦFT?=?0.036, p?=?0.001) and a very large average pollen dispersal distance (d?=?1,032.3 m). The leptokurtic distribution (b?=?0.18) presumes a potential for even larger dispersal distances. The high genetic diversity, the mating patterns, and the extensive pollen dispersal presume that habitat fragmentation did not have a negative impact on pollen movement in this population of A. chilensis. Genetic connectivity among fragmented populations scattered in the Patagonian region is possible, and we stress the need of management policies at the landscape level.  相似文献

Variation among flowering seasons in the time of flowering, synchrony and length of flowering, and fluctuations in the abundance of pollinators may cause a variation in pollen dispersal distance. In this study, we analyzed the temporal variation in pollen dispersal and breeding structure in the Neotropical tree species Tabebuia aurea (Bignoniaceae) and evaluated pollen dispersal between a population inside the reserve and a patch of isolated individuals on the edge of the reserve, and tested the hypothesis that isolated individuals are sinking for pollen. All adult trees (260) within a population of 40 ha and 9 isolated individuals on the edge of the reserve were sampled, and from these adults, 21 open-pollinated progeny arrays were analyzed in 2 flowering seasons (309 seeds in 2004 and 328 in 2005). Genetic analyses were based on the polymorphism at 10 microsatellite loci. A high proportion of self-pollination found in both flowering seasons indicated a mixed-mating system. The mean pollen dispersal distance differed significantly between the two flowering seasons (307.78 m in 2004 and 396.26 m in 2005). Maximum pollen dispersal was 2608 m, but most pollination events (65%) occurred at distances <300 m. Our results also showed that isolated individuals are sinking for pollen, with high pollen flow between the population inside the reserve and individuals on the edge. These results are most likely due to the large pollinator species, which can potentially fly long distances, and also due to temporal variation in individual fecundity and contribution to pollen dispersal.  相似文献

The mating system (outcrossing, selfing, and biparental inbreeding) and the extent of pollen flow are two of the most important genetic features that determine the genetic structure of plant populations, and both are crucial for the design of conservation strategies. The objectives here were to estimate mating system parameters and to fit the pollen dispersal kernel for the southern beech, Nothofagus nervosa. We sampled 25 mothers and 372 progeny from two stands in the Tromen Lake region of Argentina. We registered spatial positions of the maternal trees, and genotyped mothers and offspring for five simple sequence repeat markers. We estimated single-locus (t s?=?0.95) and multilocus (t m?=?0.99) outcrossing rates and biparental inbreeding (t m-t s?=?0.04). The species is strongly outcrossing, but correlated paternity within maternal sibships (r p?=?0.10) indicates that each maternal parent is sampling a different and restricted array of pollen donors. We used two protocols (twogener and kindist) to fit an exponential power dispersal kernel to the structure of pollen clouds sampled by different mothers. The estimated effective number of pollen donors contributing to a single mother was N ep?=?9.9. The twogener and kindist analyses yielded slightly different estimates, but both indicated short average distances for pollen dispersal (<35?m), indicating that the dispersal kernel was strongly leptokurtic (???=?0.36). While short-distance pollen dispersal predominates, there remains a nontrivial probability of long-distance dispersal. The results are discussed in the context of ongoing conservation and management programs.  相似文献

Background and Aims The evolution of selfing is one of the most common transitions in flowering plants, and this change in mating pattern has important systematic and ecological consequences because it often initiates reproductive isolation and speciation. Petunia axillaris (Solanaceae) includes three allopatric subspecies widely distributed in temperate South America that present different degrees of self-compatibity and incompatibility. One of these subspecies is co-distributed with P. exserta in a restricted area and presents a complex, not well-understood mating system. Artificial crossing experiments suggest a complex system of mating in this sympatric area. The main aims of this study were to estimate the pollen dispersal distance and to evaluate the breeding structure of P. axillaris subsp. axillaris, a hawkmoth-pollinated taxon from this sympatric zone. Methods Pollen dispersal distance was compared with nearest-neighbours distance, and the differentiation in the pollen pool among mother plants was estimated. In addition, the correlation between genetic differentiation and spatial distance among plants was tested. All adult individuals (252) within a space of 2800 m2 and 15 open-pollinated progeny (285 seedlings) were analysed. Genetic analyses were based on 12 polymorphic microsatellite loci.Key Results A high proportion of self-pollination was found, indicating a mixed-mating system. The maximum pollen dispersal distance was 1013 m, but most pollination events (96 %) occurred at a distance of 0 m, predominantly in an inbreeding system. Both parents among sampled individuals could be identifed in 60–85 % of the progeny. Conclusions The results show that most pollen dispersal in the hawkmoth-pollinated P. axillaris subsp. axillaris occurs within populations and there is a high proportion of inbreeding. This mating system appears to favour species integrity in a secondary contact zone with the congener species P. exserta.  相似文献

Pentadesma butyracea Sabine, a rain forest food tree species, plays a vital role in the socio-economic livelihood of some West African rural communities due to its various products. However, its scattered populations are threatened in Benin. Defining appropriate conservation strategies requires a good knowledge of mating patterns and their consequences for population genetics. The outcrossing rate, levels of correlated paternity and fine-scale spatial genetic structure of adults and maternal sibships were estimated for one small population and three large populations in Benin using microsatellite markers. Similar outcrossing rates (88–95%) were found in all populations, showing that P. butyracea is mainly an outbreeding species. We found no evidence of inbreeding depression from a decay of inbreeding with age. The spatial genetic structure within the large populations (Sp statistic?=?0.003–0.038) was consistent with isolation-by-distance expectations, showing that gene dispersal is spatially limited. Limited pollen dispersal is highlighted by the decay of the degree of correlated paternity between sibships with spatial distance. The mean pollen dispersal distance was estimated between 50 m and 450 m, but up to 21% pollen may migrate from external sources. The smallest population displayed slightly higher correlated paternity than the large populations (r p ?=?0.37 vs. r p ?=?0.17–0.30). In conclusion, our results suggest that small populations may show a reduction in sire numbers in seed, while the fragmented populations, large and small, are connected through gene flow. There is little inbreeding and no evidence of inbreeding depression.  相似文献

This study examines the levels of gene flow, the distance and the patterns of pollen and seed dispersal, the intra-population spatial genetic structure (SGS) and the effective population size of a spatially isolated Myracrodruon urundeuva population using five microsatellite loci. The study was carried out in the Paulo de Faria Ecological Station, São Paulo State, Brazil and included the sampling and mapping of 467 adult-trees and 149 juveniles. Open-pollinated seeds (514) from 29 seed-trees were also sampled and genotyped. Significant SGS was detected in both adult (S p  = 0.0269) and juveniles trees (S p  = 0.0246), indicating short-distance seed dispersal. Using maternity analysis, all juveniles had the mother-tree assigned within the stand. A father-tree within the stand was also assigned for 97.3% of the juveniles and 98.4% of offspring. The average pollen dispersal distance measured in juveniles \( \left( {\hat{\delta } = 1 3 8\pm 1 6 9 {\text{ m}},{\text{ mean}} \pm {\text{SD}}} \right) \) and offspring \( \left( {\hat{\delta } = 2 5 2\pm 20 4 {\text{ m}}} \right) \) were higher than the average seed dispersal distance measured in juveniles \( \left( {\hat{\delta } = 1 2 4\pm 1 50{\text{ m}}} \right) \). About 70% of the pollen from juveniles and 51% from offspring traveled less than 200 m and, 72% of the seeds traveled less than 50 m. The effective population size of the studied sample indicates that the 467 adult-trees and 145 juveniles correspond respectively to 335 and 63 individuals that are neither inbred nor relatives. The results are discussed in relation to their impact on seed collection practices and genetic conservation.  相似文献

The fine-scale spatial genetic structure (FSGS) of plant populations is strongly influenced by patterns of seed dispersal. An extreme case of limited dispersal is found in the charismatic yet endangered palm Lodoicea maldivica, which produces large fruits (up to 20 kg) dispersed only by gravity. To investigate patterns of seed dispersal and FSGS in natural populations we sampled 1252 individual adults and regenerating offspring across the species’ natural range in the Seychelles archipelago, and characterised their genotypes at 12 microsatellite loci. The average dispersal distance was 8.7?±?0.7 m. Topography had a significant effect on seed dispersal, with plants on steep slopes exhibiting the longest distances. FSGS was intense, especially in younger cohorts. Contrary to what might be expected in a dioecious species, we found high levels of inbreeding, with most neighbouring pairs of male and female trees (≤10 m) being closely related. Nonetheless, levels of genetic diversity were relatively high and similar in the various sampling areas, although these differed in disturbance and habitat fragmentation. We discuss potential trade-offs associated with maternal resource provisioning of progeny, seed dispersal and inbreeding, and consider the implications of our findings for managing this globally significant flagship species.  相似文献

In this study, the mating system, contemporary pollen flow, and landscape pollen connectivity of the wild olive tree (Olea europaea subsp. cuspidata) were analyzed in a fragmented landscape of less than 4-km diameter located in north-western Ethiopia. Four remnant populations of different sizes were investigated. Eight highly polymorphic microsatellite markers were used to genotype 534 adults and 704 embryos. We used contrasting sampling schemes and different methodological approaches to analyze the pollen flow. We observed a lower rate of inbreeding and correlated mating in the fragmented vs. the non-fragmented subpopulation. Using parentage analysis, we detected a bidirectional pollen movement across subpopulations. Pollen flow was found to be directed towards small subpopulations based on parentage and anisotropic analysis. Pollen immigration amounted to more than 50%. Although most pollination occurred within a distance of less than 200 m, longer distance pollen movements of more than 3 km were also detected. Pollen dispersal in the large and dense subpopulation was reduced, and a smaller number of effective pollen sources were detected compared to a smaller fragmented subpopulation. We obtained consistent estimates for the number of effective pollen donors (approximately 6 per mother tree) using three different methods. The average pollen dispersal distance at the landscape level amounted to 276 m while at the local level, 174 m was estimated. Bigger trees were better pollen contributors than smaller trees. We showed here for the first time that pollen dispersal in wild olive follows a leptokurtic distribution.  相似文献

Brown rot (BR) caused by Monilinia spp. leads to significant post-harvest losses in stone fruit production, especially peach. Previous genetic analyses in peach progenies suggested that BR resistance segregates as a quantitative trait. In order to uncover genomic regions associated with this trait and identify molecular markers for assisted selection (MAS) in peach, an F1 progeny from the cross “Contender” (C, resistant)?×?“Elegant Lady” (EL, susceptible) was chosen for quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis. Over two phenotyping seasons, skin (SK) and flesh (FL) artificial infections were performed on fruits using a Monilinia fructigena isolate. For each treatment, infection frequency (if) and average rot diameter (rd) were scored. Significant seasonal and intertrait correlations were found. Maturity date (MD) was significantly correlated with disease impact. Sixty-three simple sequence repeats (SSRs) plus 26 single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers were used to genotype the C?×?EL population and to construct a linkage map. C?×?EL map included the eight Prunus linkage groups (LG), spanning 572.92 cM, with an average interval distance of 6.9 cM, covering 78.73 % of the peach genome (V1.0). Multiple QTL mapping analysis including MD trait as covariate uncovered three genomic regions associated with BR resistance in the two phenotyping seasons: one containing QTLs for SK resistance traits near M1a (LG C?×?EL-2, R 2?=?13.1–31.5 %) and EPPISF032 (LG C?×?EL-4, R 2?=?11–14 %) and the others containing QTLs for FL resistance, near markers SNP_IGA_320761 and SNP_IGA_321601 (LG3, R 2?=?3.0–11.0 %). These results suggest that in the C?×?EL F1 progeny, skin resistance to fungal penetration and flesh resistance to rot spread are distinguishable mechanisms constituting BR resistance trait, associated with different genomic regions. Discovered QTLs and their associated markers could assist selection of new cultivars with enhanced resistance to Monilinia spp. in fruit.  相似文献

Mating systems have long been recognized as key factors determining genetic structure within and between populations. Outcrossing promotes genetic diversity and gene flow between populations, while inbreeding, on the other hand, decreases recombination rates, facilitating fixation of co-adapted genes. In small populations, selfing moderates pollen limitation because of low mate availability, but at the cost of increased inbreeding depression. These conflicts are of more than theoretical interest; they are critical for the management of endangered species. In order to help designing conservation strategies for the management of the gene pool of fragmented populations of Pinus cembra, a protected species in Poland, we have characterized pollen flow and mating structure using nuclear microsatellite markers. We demonstrated that P. cembra in the studied stands of the Tatra Mts. is characterized by an average outcrossing rate (t) of 0.72. Unlike with the existing approaches, using the newly developed Bayesian method, we found that population size and seasonal variation had confounding effects on outcrossing rates. In concordance with predictions, large populations showed significantly higher outcrossing rates (t?=?0.89) than smaller ones (t?=?0.51). Temporal variation revealed in the outcrossing rate might be linked with masting behavior of the species. On the other hand, we showed that outcrossing rates were not associated with a trunk diameter of a mother tree. Our study also demonstrated that biparental inbreeding is a significant component of mating system. However, we further show that pollen dispersal follows a fat-tailed distribution (with the average dispersal distance of 1,267 m) so that at least some long-distance pollen dispersal must be occurring. Overall, we conclude that the high inbreeding (both selfing and mating between relatives) found in P. cembra buffers for pollen limitation. We argue that small, isolated stands can be at risk of gene pool erosion, despite the potential for long-distance pollen and seed dispersal.  相似文献

With the conversion of natural habitats to farmland, nonhuman primates (hereafter primates) are increasingly exposed to agricultural crops. Although frugivorous primates are important seed dispersers that sometimes feed on agricultural fruits, evidence for dispersal of crops by primates is lacking. Here, we examine flexible feeding on cacao (Theobroma cacao) fruit and seed dispersal patterns by chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes verus) at Bossou in Guinea, and consequent cacao germination and survival. From direct observations, we confirm that cacao fruit is not an important food to chimpanzees, representing 0.23 % of focal animal feeding time. Chimpanzees ingest cacao pulp and either spit out the large seeds intact from unripe cacao fruit or swallow the seeds from ripe cacao fruits, which are consequently deposited in feces. From ecological surveys we show that chimpanzees distributed cacao extensively throughout their home range, at a mean distance of 407 m?±?SE 0.6 (N?=?90 clusters, range: 4–1130 m) from cacao plantations. As distance from the cacao plantation increased, cacao plants were more likely to survive. Other factors, including number of cacao plants in a cluster, plant height, and openness of the understory did not predict short-term cacao survival. Cacao plants within the forest did not produce fruit. By contrast, when chimpanzees deposited seeds in a plantation, cacao plants produced fruits as a result of farmers’ maintenance of the area. Our local-scale findings emphasize the complex behavioral and ecological interconnections between coexisting humans and primates in agricultural landscapes and generate interesting questions regarding primate niche construction and crop “ownership” related to who “plants” the crop.  相似文献

It has been hypothesized that the fitness of selfed progeny must be lowered by inbreeding depression. Most research into the breeding systems of orchids shows a similar fruit set from outcrossing and self-pollination, but few studies have measured seed production and viability. In five populations of Laelia autumnalis, in central México, we studied the species reproductive system and the early costs of endogamy. We performed spontaneous self-pollination, apomixis, assisted self-pollination, cross-pollination, and exogamous pollination (using pollen from a different population) treatments of bagged flowers and measured fruit set, seed production, and germination. No fruits were produced in the apomixis and spontaneous self-pollination treatments. Reproductive success from self-pollination was lower than that from cross- and exogamous pollination and no difference was found between the latter two treatments. The ratio between self-pollination and cross-pollination success in different traits ranged from 0.80?±?0.18 (fruit set) to 0.22?±?0.13 (seeds with embryo). The latter value suggests a high endogamy costs in the production of viable seeds. The concatenated success of the different traits studied showed that the relative fitness of self-pollination was 63% lower than with cross-pollination. Laelia autumnalis is a self-compatible non-autogamous species in which the cost of endogamy occurs at seed production and cannot be compensated for at other early stages. This also occurs in other orchid species and is likely to be a general pattern.  相似文献

Understanding the mating patterns of populations of tree species is a key component of ex situ genetic conservation. In this study, we analysed the genetic diversity, spatial genetic structure (SGS) and mating system at the hierarchical levels of fruits and individuals as well as pollen dispersal patterns in a continuous population of Theobroma cacao in Pará State, Brazil. A total of 156 individuals in a 0.56 ha plot were mapped and genotyped for nine microsatellite loci. For the mating system analyses, 50 seeds were collected from nine seed trees by sampling five fruits per tree (10 seeds per fruit). Among the 156 individuals, 127 had unique multilocus genotypes, and the remaining were clones. The population was spatially aggregated; it demonstrated a significant SGS up to 15 m that could be attributed primarily to the presence of clones. However, the short seed dispersal distance also contributed to this pattern. Population matings occurred mainly via outcrossing, but selfing was observed in some seed trees, which indicated the presence of individual variation for self-incompatibility. The matings were also correlated, especially within (r̂p(m)=0.607) rather than among the fruits (r̂p(m)=0.099), which suggested that a small number of pollen donors fertilised each fruit. The paternity analysis suggested a high proportion of pollen migration (61.3%), although within the plot, most of the pollen dispersal encompassed short distances (28 m). The determination of these novel parameters provides the fundamental information required to establish long-term ex situ conservation strategies for this important tropical species.  相似文献

The fate of hybrids and the temporal and spatial dynamics of hybrid zones depend on hybrid fitness in comparison to non-hybrids. We studied cross-pollination among Hancornia speciosa varieties and compared progeny fitness in a nursery to address whether hybrid fitness differed from non-hybrids and whether maternal and paternal taxa contribute differentially to offspring fitness. This species has edible fruit pulp that is used as a raw material for candies, ice cream, and juice by small- and medium-sized enterprises in Central-West and Northeast Brazil. We genotyped 258 adults from a germplasm collection and 320 seeds using seven microsatellite loci to estimate genetic parameters and determine pollen donors. Fitness components, days to shoot, growth rate (mm/day), leaf width (mm), leaf length (mm), stem diameter (mm), and plant height (cm) were analyzed in 200 individuals. Genetic diversity and polymorphism did not differ neither between adults and progeny arrays nor among the four varieties. Genetic differentiation among varieties (F CT?=?0.019, p?<?0.001) and among populations within varieties (F SC?=?0.053, p?<?0.001) was significant but low. We detected mating among the four varieties, and no self-pollination was observed in parentage analysis, confirming that H. speciosa is self-incompatible with a high outcrossing rate (t m?=?0.990, SE?=?0.007). No significant effect of heterosis or exogamic depression was detected for any fitness component, but maternal contribution significantly affected plant height.  相似文献

In flowering plants, pollen dispersal is often the major contributing component to gene flow, hence a key parameter in conservation genetics and population biology. A cost-effective method to assess pollen dispersal consists of monitoring the dispersal of fluorescent dyes used as pollen analogues. However, few comparisons between dye dispersal and realized pollen dispersal have been performed to validate the method. We investigated pollen dispersal in two small populations of the insect-pollinated herb Primula elatior from urban forest fragments using direct (paternity analyses based on microsatellite DNA markers) and indirect (fluorescent dyes) methods. We compared these methods using two approaches, testing for the difference between the distance distributions of observed dispersal events and estimating parameters of a dispersal model, and related these results to dye dispersal patterns in three large populations. Dye and realized (based on paternity inference) pollen dispersal showed exponential decay distributions, with 74.2?C94.8% of the depositions occurring at <50?m and a few longer distance dispersal events (up to 151?m). No significant difference in curve shape was found between dye and realized pollen dispersal distributions. The best-fitting parameters characterizing the dye dispersal model were consistent with those obtained for realized pollen dispersal. Hence, the fluorescent dye method may be considered as reliable to infer realized pollen dispersal for forest herbs such as P. elatior. However, our simulations reveal that large sample sizes are needed to detect moderate differences between dye and realized pollen dispersal patterns because the estimation of dispersal parameters suffers low precision.  相似文献

Extensive realized pollen and seed flow across populations reduces inbreeding and spatial genetic structure (SGS) and increases the genetic diversity and effective size within populations. Inbreeding, SGS and realized patterns of pollen and seed dispersal of the dioecious, wind pollinated Araucaria angustifolia were investigated based on microsatellite loci. The study was conducted in a 7.2 ha plot established within a continuous Araucaria Forest in Southern Brazil. In the plot, all 290 adult trees were mapped, measured (diameter at breast height, dbh), sexed, sampled and genotyped. We also sampled, measured (total height), mapped and genotyped 223 juveniles. A total of 86 alleles were detected in the sample (n = 513). Adults and juveniles showed a positive and significant fixation index (minimum of 0.096), suggesting inbreeding or Wahlund effect. Juveniles presented a significant aggregated distribution which was associated with a genetic aggregation (significant SGS up to 20 m), indicating that near neighbor trees may be related due the limited seed dispersal. However, the intensity of SGS was not significantly higher among juveniles (Sp = 0.0041) than adults (Sp = 0.0026). Realized pollen and seed immigration into the plot was low (pollen = 6 %; seeds = 5 %) and the patterns of pollen and seed dispersal were similar. Pollen was dispersed over long distances (343 m), but 50 % was dispersed up to 124 m. Seeds also reached long distances (318 m), with 50 % being dispersed up to 133 m. Our results are discussed in terms of auto-ecology and the genetic conservation of A. angustifolia populations.  相似文献

Ag nanowire (NW) arrays with NW diameter d NW?=?12–120 nm were electrodeposited in anodic aluminum oxide templates. Strong avalanche photoluminescence (PL) from Ag NW arrays with small d NW were observed near 914 nm by using picosecond laser at the excitation wavelength 808 nm, which is originated from the plasmon-enhanced radiative intraband transitions. The peak PL intensity of the avalanche PL from the sample with small diameter d NW?=?12 nm is about 102 times stronger than that of the linear PL from the sample with large diameter d NW?=?120 nm. The opposite excitation polarization dependence and emission polarization distribution of the PL from Ag NW array with d NW?=?12 nm and d NW?=?120 nm were also observed.  相似文献

Over the past century, the Brazilian Atlantic forest has been reduced to small, isolated fragments of forest. Reproductive isolation theories predict a loss of genetic diversity and increases in inbreeding and spatial genetic structure (SGS) in such populations. We analysed eight microsatellite loci to investigate the pollen and seed dispersal patterns, genetic diversity, inbreeding and SGS of the tropical tree Copaifera langsdorffii in a small (4.8 ha), isolated population. All 112 adult trees and 128 seedlings found in the stand were sampled, mapped and genotyped. Seedlings had significantly lower levels of genetic diversity (A=16.5±0.45, mean±95% s.e.; He=0.838±0.006) than did adult trees (A=23.2±0.81; He=0.893±0.030). Parentage analysis did not indicate any seed immigration (mseeds=0) and the pollen immigration rate was very low (mpollen=0.047). The average distance of realized pollen dispersal within the stand was 94 m, with 81% of the pollen travelling <150 m. A significant negative correlation was found between the frequency and distance of pollen dispersal (r=−0.79, P<0.01), indicating that short-distance pollinations were more frequent. A significant SGS for both adults (∼50 m) and seedlings (∼20 m) was also found, indicating that most of the seeds were dispersed over short distances. The results suggested that the spatial isolation of populations by habitat fragmentation can restrict seed and pollen gene flow, increase SGS and affect the genetic diversity of future generations.  相似文献
