Assignment by in situ hybridization of the angiotensinogen gene to chromosome band 1q4, the same region as the human renin gene

Summary A 1.8kb human cDNA probe for angiotensinogen (renin substrate) was used to determine the chromosomal location of the angiotensinogen gene by in situ hybridization. The results show that human chromosome region 1q4 contains the angiotensinogen gene. The human renin gene has also recently been assigned to the same band of chromosome 1. Thus, the angiotensinogen and renin genes are located in the same region of chromosome 1.     

Assignment by in situ hybridization of a fibroblast growth factor receptor gene to human chromosome band 10q26

Summary A 2.3-kb cDNA probe for the human bek fibroblast growth factor receptor was used to determine the chromosomal localization of the corresponding gene by in situ hybridization. The results show that this gene, a form of which is amplified in some poorly differentiated stomach cancers, is localized on chromosome region 10q26. The two previously identified fibroblast growth factor receptor genes are thus not on the same chromosome, as the related fig (fms-like gene) fibrovblast growth factor receptor gene has previously been mapped to human chromosome region 8p12.     

Assignment of human desmin gene to band 2q35 by nonradioactive in situ hybridization

Summary A 3-kb DNA fragment, inserted in Bluescribe vector, was used to localize the desmin gene by in situ hybridization on human metaphase chromosomes. The probe was labelled by Bio-11-dUTP and detected by immunofluorescence. Subsequent R-banding indicated that the desmin gene is located in band 2q35.
