Long-term biomanipulation of Rimov Reservoir (Czech Republic) 总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
The history of fish, zooplankton and phytoplankton in RimovReservoir during its 14 years existence is documented. Afterthe filling of the reservoir in autumn 1978, the biomass ofplanktivorous fish increased from near zero to 650 kg ha-1 bythe fourth year of the reservoirs existence, after which thefish stock continually decreased under various forms ofbiomanipulative pressure, down to a value of about 100 kg ha-1. Thisdevelopment of fish stock was accompanied by changes in zooplanktonsize structure, but a cascading effect down to reduction ofphytoplankton biomass was not pronounced. The changes ofzooplankton body size structure were: increasing or decreasingaverage size of Daphnia galeata (the main cladoceranherbivore species) and changes in relative proportion ofcladoceran species, but none of the main zooplankton species was replacedor disappeared. The variation in phytoplankton biomass wasexplained by variation in phosphorus concentration and not related tozooplankton structure. It was concluded that the criticalbiomass of planktivorous fish below which the effect of loweringphytoplankton biomass could be observed lies below 100 kg ofplanktivorous fish per hectare. An attempt is made to quantifythe relationship between fish stock density and the size structureof zooplankton potentially able to influence top-down effects onphytoplankton. 相似文献

SUMMARY. The planktonic rotifers of Grasmere, a small lake in the English Lake District, were studied from August 1969 to December 1972. Twenty-four species were recorded but five were very rare. The remaining species were divided into three groups according to their seasonal occurrence: spring to autumn species ( Keratella quadrata. K. cochlearis, Gastropus stylifer, Asplauduia priodonta. Kellicottia Umgispina, Conochilus hippocrepis )., spring to early summer species ( Polyarthra dolichoptera, Synchaeta tremula, S. pectinata, S. stylata, S. oblonga, C. unicornis ), summer to autumn species ( Polyarthra vulgaris, P. major. Filinia terminalis, S. grandis, Ploesoma hudsoni, Trichocerca capucina, T. similis ). The months in which each species was abundant are given.
Keratella quadrata and Filinia terminalis were most abundant in the deepest stratum, Kellicottia longispina and Conochilus spp. were most abundant in the upper and middle strata. Trichocerca spp. showed no pronounced vertical distribution, and all the remaining species were most abundant in the upper stratum. Keratella cochlearis and Kellicottia longispina attained their highest densities over a wide range of temperature and oxygen concentration. Filinia terminalis, Conchihis spp., Asplanchna priodonta. K. quadrata , and Polyarthra spp., attained their highest densities within a narrow range of temperature and oxygen concentration. Optimum ranges are given for each species.
Major changes occurred between 1971 and 1972 when Asplanchna priodonta. Kellicottia longispina, Conochilus unicornis and Filinia terminalis increased in abundance, whilst Keratella quadrata. Gastropus stylifer, C. hippocrepis, Polyarthra spp., Synchaeta spp. and Ploesoma hudsoni decreased in abundance. These changes are discussed in relation to the temperature and oxygen requirements of each species and also to the probable enrichment of the lake after the opening of a new sewage works in June 1971. 相似文献

The diversity of planktonic species in a body of water can be estimated in two ways: momentary diversity and long term diversity. The former represents the number capable of coexisting at any one time, and the latter includes a seasonal or other temporal component. The relationship between the two varies mainly with salinity. Dominance is generally inversely related to diversity. In considering the total possible range of dominance for a given number of species the mean values are surprisingly restricted. An abnormally high dominance for a number of species can be an indication of pollution or some other form of environmental stress. 相似文献

The dynamics, community structure, and productivity of planktonic rotifers were studied during 3 years in two lakes near St. Petersburg (Russia). One lake was repeatedly stocked with larvae of the fish Coregonus peled; the other contained no fish. Fish addition led to a shift in plankton community structure. Population densities of some rotifer species (Keratella cochlearis, K. irregularis, Asplanchna priodonta) increased as a result of the elimination of large crustaceans by fishes during summer and autumn. The in situ clearance rates of several rotifer species from a small, temperate eutrophic lake were measured using three radioactive tracer cell-types, a bacterium (Aerobacter), a yeast (Rhodoto-rula), and alga (Chlamydomonas). Rates were below 10 µl/anim/h but varied significantly among species. Keratella cochlearis, Kellicottia bostoniensis, and Conochilus dossuarius ingested all three tracer cells but rates varied substantially with tracer cell-type. Polyarthra dolichoptera and P. euryptera ingested only the algal cells. Co-occurring forms of K. cochlearis and species of Polyarthra differed markedly in size and in tracer cell utilization, indicating niche diversification in food resources. 相似文献

Zonation and abundance dynamics of interstitial rotifers in a semilotic beach of the North Sea island of Sylt were studied in 1975/76. The 13 species investigated prefer the damp sand of the beach slope. The sand flat is only sparsely inhabited. Rotifers only live in oxygen-rich sands. Neither the black sulphite layer in the sand flat nor the groundwater in the beach slope is populated. The family Colurellidae prefers warm temperatures in mid-summer, the family Proalidae colder temperatures in spring and autumn. In contrast to these two families that can be found in different frequencies all year round, the family Dicranophoridae occurs only in the cold seasons and disappears in mid-summer. Possibilities of maintaining the life cycle during these months are discussed. 相似文献

We studied spatial and temporal distribution, abundance, diversity, equitability and species associations of the rotifers of the estuarine area of Suape (Pernambuco-Brazil), based on plankton samples collected according to the tidal regime at 11 fixed stations in Suape Bay and the estuaries of Massangana, Tatuoca and Ipojuca Rivers, during February (dry season) and July (rainy season) of 1978. Concurrent hydrological and climatological data were taken. Eight species groups were established. In general, rotifers dominated in the Ipojuca River estuary and stations subject to its influence. Greatest community similarities were observed among nearby stations, during the same tide and season. Hydrological factors influenced the occurrence and distribution of some species, and a close correlation between phytoplankton and rotifers was observed. Pollution in Ipojuca River contributed to diversity. 相似文献

Seasonal changes of species diversity (Hr) and average spatial overlap (ōjk) of planktonic rotifers in a mesotrophic lake were examined with respect to their dependence on habitat diversity (Hh) and on a predator (Asplanchna herricki). Hr was positively correlated with the density of A. herricki and with Hh. In the absence of A. herricki there was no correlation between Hr and Hh. ōjk was negatively correlated with the density of A. herricki and with Hh; the correlation between ōjk and Hh was independent of the presence of the predator. 相似文献

Zooplankton samples from the middle reach of the Po River were collected daily from 27 July to 24 August 1988 from a station located near Viadana. Changes in the biocoenosis structure were analyzed in relation to variations in flow rate. Rotifers accounted for more than 99% of the total zooplankton (protozoans excluded) in every sample. The dominant species were Brachionus calyciflorus, Brachionus bennini, Brachionus budapestinensis and Epiphanes macrourus. Under scanty flow conditions, the taxocoenosis showed marked stability. An increase in flow rate acts as a disturbance factor leading to a significant decrease in both total density and dominance. 相似文献

Vertical distribution of planktonic rotifers is described in relation to temperature and oxygen in Lake La Cruz, a single-doline, closed karstic lake (121 m diameter and 25 m maximum depth) which shows iron meromixis. Samples were taken by peristaltic pumping at 10 cm depth intervals in the oxycline zone from June 1987 to September 1988. A model of rotifer vertical structure in stratified lakes is proposed. Rotifers concentrate their populations at the depths with intense gradients. As stratification develops some rotifer populations show a downward migration following the thermocline and some others show an upward migration following the oxycline. The production-respiration balance in the lake, and so the position of the oxycline with respect to the thermocline and the layer of maximum production, depends on meteorological conditions. A shift in the dominance of congeneric or related species can occur in consecutive years. In Lake La Cruz, mixing conditions and subterranean inflow in spring were much more intense in 1988 than 1987, and the distance between production and decomposition depths was smaller in 1988. Anuraeopsis miraclei, an oxycline-bound species with high abundance in 1987, was displaced by A. fissa in 1988. A. fissa, which was a metalimnetic species during early summer, reached peak densities (3 × 104 ind l–1) at the oxycline, equaling the abundance of A. miraclei the preceeding year. 相似文献

The author gives account of rotifers found at ten locations in the Republic of Korea, and elaborates some detail of specimens encountered with remarks and drawings. Thirty-seven different rotifer species were found, mostly belonging to the Order Monogononta. Twenty-two are new to the species list compiled by Yamamoto (1953). During the last years, a well documented expansion ofragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L., Ambrosia trifida L.) over the Mediterranean andtemperate Europe has been in progress. The currentdistribution of ragweed plants in the Czech Republicis summarized and the ragweed pollen concentration asmonitored by 12 pollen stations in the country isdiscussed. The present situation in the ragweed pollensensitization among children and adults with pollenallergy in Brno is described. So far no dangerousexpansion of ragweed plants in our country has beenobserved. Ragweed pollen concentration is occasionallysignificant in the Brno station only, other pollenstations are reporting insignificant amounts ofragweed pollen during August-September periods,although there has been a steady increase in ragweedpollen concentration in the Prague area over the lastfive years. Skin prick tests and/or specific IgEmeasurements with ragweed allergen were performed on94 children with pollen allergy in the Brno region in1995 and on 206, 210 and 229 adult allergic patientsin 1995, 1996 and 1997, respectively. Positive skinreaction or positive specific IgE to ragweed was foundin 22% children and in 25% (1995), 19% (1996) and 25% (1997) adults with pollen allergy. It isconcluded that ragweed does not seem to represent anyimminent major threat to the allergic population inthe Czech Republic until now, however, it remains apotentially very dangerous allergen. 相似文献

Quantitative zooplankton sampling was carried out biweekly during 16 months in Lake Nyahirya, a Western Uganda crater lake. Six out of 24 rotifer species recorded from the lake were quantitatively important (Horaella brehmi, Brachionus angularis, B. caudatus, Keratella tropica, Filinia longiseta and F. opoliensis, and three others were common (Brachionus falcatus, Asplanchna sieboldi and Conochiloides natans). Rotifer peaks were correlated with rainy periods and relatively clear water, which coincide with the European spring and autumn. All species were able to deal with hypoxic conditions. A clear niche separation can be observed between different genera and between species of the same genus. The population dynamics of the rotifers seem to be ruled by repeated irregular environmental fluctuations. Rainfall appears to be a primary steering factor. 相似文献

A palaeoecological investigation of a sediment core obtained from an artificial lake — the fishpond Vajgar (40 ha) near the town of Jind?ich?v Hradec, southern Bohemia, has been carried out in connection with extensive multidisciplinary research preceding the removal of its sediment. Samples from selected standard profile were subjected to chemical, pollen, and palaeoalgological analyses in order to study the chronology of vegetation development, anthropogenic impact on the landscape, and the development of an artificial fishpond ecosystem. The palaeoecological record under study comprises the period of extensive change from pre-cultural, silver fir-dominated forest vegetation into managed, agricultural landscape dominated by cereal fields and pastures. After Medieval colonization, the proportion between wooded and open landscape changed, and the composition of original forests shifted to pine. Pollen spectra from the High Middle Ages are characterized by high percentages of anthropogenic indicators and closely resemble the results from urban deposits (cesspits, wells, communication horizons, etc.). This period can be subdivided into a first phase correlated with the High and Late Middle Ages and a second phase correlated with the post Medieval period and partly maybe also with the agricultural collectivization of the 20th century. The earlier phase has a rather uniform character with a significant presence of grazing indicators and cereal weeds. After the collectivization of the 1950s and later, a substantial change in agricultural practices can be detected: the large-scale use of herbicides affecting the composition of agricultural ruderal species (e.g. decline of cornflower (Centaurea cyanus), rye (Secale), etc.). The development of the aquatic system of the fishpond Vajgar was studied by means of chemical and palaeoalgological analyses. On the basis of observed changes in the composition of subfossil algal communities, the fishpond history can be split into four distinct phases. It is assumed that the progression over individual phases was caused by changes in water chemistry that can be interpreted as shifts in water quality caused by the urbanization of the surrounding areas as well as by changes in agricultural practices. The results of the investigation of some chemical elements (especially heavy metals) show stratigraphic patterns that can be related to historical events. These results show that the mixing and bioturbation of the sediment was not so significant as might be expected. 相似文献
