An outstanding array of prominent investigators gathered in Barcelona on May 28th and 29th, 2009 for the first Cancer Epigenetics and Biology Symposium to discuss progress in different areas of cancer research. Organized by Dr. Manel Esteller, this Symposium also publicized the launching of the Cancer Epigenetics and Biology Program (PEBC), of which Esteller is the director. The symposium covered a variety of topics, including the use of animal models to study cancer, the study of epigenetic pathways involved in tumorigenesis, and the future of epigenetic therapeutics. Some of the highlights of this meeting are summarized in this report.  相似文献

At the 12th Annual HUPO World Congress of Proteomics in Japan, the Human Proteome Project (HPP) presented 16 scientific workshop sessions. Here we summarize highlights of ten workshops from the Biology and Disease‐driven HPP (B/D‐HPP) teams and three from the HPP Resource Pillars. Highlights of the three Chromosome‐centric HPP sessions appeared in the many articles of the 2014 C‐HPP special issue of the Journal of Proteome Research 1 .  相似文献

In May 2011, the Canadian Conference on Epigenetics: Epigenetics Eh! was held in London, Canada. The objectives of this conference were to showcase the breadth of epigenetic research on environment and health across Canada and to provide the catalyst to develop collaborative Canadian epigenetic research opportunities, similar to existing international epigenetic initiatives in the US and Europe. With ten platform sessions and two sessions with over 100 poster presentations, this conference featured cutting-edge epigenetic research, presented by Canadian and international principal investigators and their trainees in the field of epigenetics and chromatin dynamics. An EpigenART competition included ten artists, creating a unique opportunity for artists and scientists to interact and explore their individual interpretations of this scientific discipline. The conference provided a unique venue for a significant cross-section of Canadian epigenetic researchers from diverse disciplines to meet, interact, collaborate and strategize at the national level.  相似文献

The meeting "Membrane Proteins in Health and Disease" featured 6 sessions and 2 satellite meetings. At the opening session, Gunnar von Heijne delivered a plenary lecture entitled Insertion of Membrane Proteins into the Endoplasmic Reticulum. The following session topics were Membrane Protein Trafficking and Folding, Regulation of Membrane Proteins, Membrane Protein Structure, Membrane Proteins in Diverse Species, and Membrane Proteins and Diseases. The satellite meetings discussed bicarbonate transporters and Na+/H+ exchangers. Together the 21 lectures and 106 posters presented at the meeting spanned the full spectrum of current research into membrane protein structure and function.  相似文献

At a recent Keystone symposium on "Molecular Pathways in Cardiac Development and Disease" in Colorado, significant advances in the understanding of heart development were discussed. The identification and isolation of cardiovascular progenitors, their modulation by secreted factors, and some tantalizing insights into cardiac regeneration were some of the highlights of what was characterized by some as a renaissance in cardiovascular development.  相似文献

The Bicarbonate Transport Meeting was held as a satellite meeting of the 53rd Annual Meeting of the Canadian Society of Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology (CSBMCB): Membrane Proteins in Health and Disease. The meeting covered the modern history of bicarbonate transporter proteins and brought together the major workers in the field. Ron Kopito recounted the story of the first determination of the amino acid sequence for a bicarbonate transporter, AE1/Band 3, 25?years earlier while working with Harvey Lodish at Harvard, while Tomohiro Yamaguchi and Teruhisa Hirai presented up-to-date data on AE1 structure obtained using electron crystallography. The meeting further spanned the spectrum of bicarbonate transporters, with sessions devoted to Cl-/HCO3- exchangers, Na+/HCO3- co-transporters, the link to carbonic anhydrase, and the SLC26 family of bicarbonate transporters expressed broadly in humans, yeast, and bacteria.  相似文献

The Royal Entomological Society International Symposium on Insects and Disease was held at the University of Aberdeen on 10-12 September 2001. The symposium was run alongside the society's Annual Meeting (the first time this meeting has been held outside England) in association with the International Union of Forest Research Organisations and the Entomological Society of The Netherlands. The Barcelona Conference on Epigenetics and Cancer (BCEC) was held in Barcelona, Spain, on October 1st and 2nd, 2014. The meeting was co-organized by the Cancer Epigenetics and Biology Program (PEBC-IDIBELL) and B·Debate, an initiative of Biocat, with the support of "la Caixa" Foundation. The scientific committee was comprised of leading scientists in the field of epigenetics: Dr. Manel Esteller, director of PEBC-IDIBELL, Dr. Alejandro Vaquero and Dr. Esteban Ballestar, from PEBC-IDIBELL, Juan Ausió from the University of Victoria (Canada), and Marcus Buschbeck, from the Institute of Predictive and Personalized Medicine of Cancer (IMPPC), as BCEC series coordinator. This meeting was the second edition of the BCEC series, which was launched by 5 leading Barcelonan institutes to bring together leading investigators in the fields of epigenetics and chromatin research. The topics discussed during the meeting included the current challenges, opportunities, and perspectives surrounding the study of histone modifications (focusing in acetylation), chromatin structure and gene expression, and the involvement of histone acetylation in physiology and diseases, such as cancer or neurological diseases.  相似文献

The 7th Abercrombie Meeting took place in Oxford this past summer. It was organized by The Royal Microscopical Society with the support of The British Society for Cell Biology. Michael Abercrombie was a pioneer in the field of investigating cell behavior using time-lapse microscopy. The meeting was focused on “multi-dimensional cell migration in development and disease” and it brought together many of the world's leading researchers in the area, providing an opportunity to discuss the very latest advances and possible future developments in the field. The meeting sessions included Invasive Migration, Invasive Adhesions in Migrating Cells, Signaling in Migration, Immune Cell Migration, Migrations during Morphogenesis and Migration and Disease. As with all Abercrombie meetings, the conference delegates were treated to a staggering array of live cell imaging, in vivo imaging and images generated by the latest developments in microscopy.  相似文献

This meeting report describes some of the highlights of the First Biennial Aegean International Conference on Molecular Recognition that took place in Hersonissos, Crete, Greece, between 6 and 11 June 2010. The conference comprised four sessions devoted to: dynamic and combinatorial molecular recognition; B-cell epitope prediction, synthesis and vaccines; nanotechnology approaches to molecular recognition; and host-pathogen interactions. A total of 35 oral communications and 15 posters were presented. The second Aegean International Conference on Molecular Recognition is scheduled to take place in the spring of 2012.  相似文献

The 23rd Annual Antibody Engineering, 10th Annual Antibody Therapeutics international conferences, and the 2012 Annual Meeting of The Antibody Society, organized by IBC Life Sciences with contributions from The Antibody Society and two Scientific Advisory Boards, were held December 3–6, 2012 in San Diego, CA. The meeting drew over 800 participants who attended sessions on a wide variety of topics relevant to antibody research and development. As a prelude to the main events, a pre-conference workshop held on December 2, 2012 focused on intellectual property issues that impact antibody engineering. The Antibody Engineering Conference was composed of six sessions held December 3–5, 2012: (1) From Receptor Biology to Therapy; (2) Antibodies in a Complex Environment; (3) Antibody Targeted CNS Therapy: Beyond the Blood Brain Barrier; (4) Deep Sequencing in B Cell Biology and Antibody Libraries; (5) Systems Medicine in the Development of Antibody Therapies/Systematic Validation of Novel Antibody Targets; and (6) Antibody Activity and Animal Models. The Antibody Therapeutics conference comprised four sessions held December 4–5, 2012: (1) Clinical and Preclinical Updates of Antibody-Drug Conjugates; (2) Multifunctional Antibodies and Antibody Combinations: Clinical Focus; (3) Development Status of Immunomodulatory Therapeutic Antibodies; and (4) Modulating the Half-Life of Antibody Therapeutics. The Antibody Society’s special session on applications for recording and sharing data based on GIATE was held on December 5, 2012, and the conferences concluded with two combined sessions on December 5–6, 2012: (1) Development Status of Early Stage Therapeutic Antibodies; and (2) Immunomodulatory Antibodies for Cancer Therapy.  相似文献

The nuclear receptor joint Keystone meetings, formerly organized as ‘Steroid Sisters’ and ‘Orphan Brothers’, met this year under the banners, ‘Signalling, Gene Regulation and Cancer’ and ‘Development, Physiology and Disease’. The change reflected both the excellent progress that has been made, as well as new directions that are now central to the field. The meeting covered all aspects of regulation by nuclear receptors and provided a good orientation for investigators new to the area, as well as a timely update for those with long tenure in the field.  相似文献

The symposium brought together approximately 280 participants, from basic researchers to physicians and journalists. The meeting was composed of a joint keynote session with the meeting "Apoptotic and Non-Apoptotic Cell Death Pathways" and eight plenary sessions, covering the molecular mechanisms of autophagy and many emerging concepts and functions of autophagy in organelle degradation, physiological regulation, cell death and survival, and disease. Three afternoon workshops focused on short talks selected from the posters, and a special discussion session led by experts dealt with techniques and concerns regarding experimental detection of autophagy. International experts gathered at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester MN, USA) on February 27th-28th, 2017 for a meeting entitled ‘Basic and Translational Facets of the Epigenetics of GI Diseases’. This workshop summarized recent advances on the role of epigenetics in the pathobiology of gastrointestinal (GI) diseases. Highlights of the meeting included recent advances on the involvement of different epigenetic mechanisms in malignant and nonmalignant GI disorders and the epigenetic heterogeneity exhibited in these diseases. The translational value of epigenetic drugs, as well as the current and future use of epigenetic changes (i.e., DNA methylation patterns) as biomarkers for early detection tools or disease stratification were also important topics of discussion.  相似文献

The lymphatic vascular system, the body’s second vascular system present in vertebrates, has emerged in recent years as a crucial player in normal and pathological processes. It participates in the maintenance of normal tissue fluid balance, the immune functions of cellular and antigen trafficking and absorption of fatty acids and lipid-soluble vitamins in the gut. Recent scientific discoveries have highlighted the role of lymphatic system in a number of pathologic conditions, including lymphedema, inflammatory diseases, and tumor metastasis. Development of genetically modified animal models, identification of lymphatic endothelial specific markers and regulators coupled with technological advances such as high-resolution imaging and genome-wide approaches have been instrumental in understanding the major steps controling growth and remodeling of lymphatic vessels. This review highlights the recent insights and developments in the field of lymphatic vascular biology.  相似文献
