Relationships between fish assemblages, macrophytes and environmental gradients in the Amazon River floodplain 总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
During the flood season of 1992–1993, 139 species of fishes were collected from a floodplain lake system in the central Amazon Basin. Fish species distribution was examined relative to abiotic variables in seven vegetation strata on Marchantaria Island, Solimões River. Both environmental variables and species distributions were influenced by a river channel to floodplain-interior gradient. Species diversity was significantly higher in vegetated areas than in unvegetated areas, with deeper water Paspalum repens stands harbouring the highest diversity. As a result, species richness and catches were positively related to habitat complexity, while catch was also negatively related to dissolved oxygen (DO) and water depth. Low DO and shallow waters appeared to act as a refuge from predation. Fish assemblages were related to water chemistry, but species richness was not. Canonical correspondence analysis provided evidence that floodplain fish assemblages formed by the 76 most common species were influenced by physical variables, macrophyte coverage and habitat complexity, which jointly accounted for 67% of the variance of fish species assemblages. Omnivores showed no pattern relative to the river channel to floodplain-interior gradient while detritivores were more likely to be found at interior floodplain sites and piscivores closer to the river. Piscivores could be further separated into three groups, one with seven species associated with free-floating macrophytes in deep water, a second with five species found in shallow waters with rooted grasses and a third with six open water orientated species. Introduced predators can have harmful top-down effects on their newly colonized system through competition with and direct predation on native species. Following an initial introduction of muskellunge in Lac Frontière, Québec in the 1970s at the headwaters of the Wolastoq/Saint John River, the species rapidly migrated downstream, expanding its range by ~500 km over ~20 years. Despite this expansive colonization and concern over possible threats to native species, little is known about the basic ecology of muskellunge in this system. The last downstream barrier is the hydroelectric facility, Mactaquac Generating Station (MGS), 150 km upstream of the sea. While there are no downstream fish passage facilities at MGS, adult muskellunge have been recorded downstream. In this study, muskellunge (n = 23) were surgically tagged with very-high-frequency (VHF) radio or combined acoustic radio telemetry (CART) tags and tracked over two spawning seasons. We sought to determine if there was a reproducing population downstream of MGS and tracked Tagged muskellunge over two spawning seasons. We tracked fish to locate and confirm spawning sites, and followed up with egg and/or juvenile sampling surveys. Tagged muskellunge (90%) moved upstream towards the MGS during the spawning period in each year (2016 and 2017), where they remained throughout the entire spawning period. No spawning or nursery sites were confirmed near MGS, but in 2016 three distinct spawning locations and six distinct nursery sites were confirmed 10–12 km downstream amongst a chain of flooded islands. In 2016, eggs, sac-fry and juveniles were collected and confirmed as muskellunge by genetic sequencing, providing the first empirical observation of successful spawning downstream of MGS. 相似文献

Synopsis Examination of more than 2,000 alewives (Alosa pseudoharengus) and blueback herring (A. aestivalis) from various areas in the Saint John River, N.B., showed differences in their morphometric and meristic characters. They differed also in length and age, compositions, spawning time, length and age at maturity, back-calculated lengths, and growth parameters. Within each species, between-area comparisons showed significant differences in some of their meristic characteristics.To test a homing hypothesis for alewives, a multivariate analysis was performed on eight meristic characters. Two discriminant function programs, discriminant analysis for two groups and a multiple group stepwise discriminant analyses were used. Values of the generalized Mahalanobis D2 and percent overlap in frequency distributions of meristic characters suggest that considerable straying of fish, especially between adjacent areas occurs during upstream spawning migration.This article is one of several papers presented at the Second European Ichthyological Congress, Paris, 8–15 September 1976, to be published in Environmental Biology of Fishes. 相似文献

1. The single station diel oxygen curve method was used to determine the response of system metabolism to backfilling of a flood control canal and restoration of flow through the historic river channel of the Kissimmee River, a sub‐tropical, low gradient, blackwater river in central Florida, U.S.A. Gross primary productivity (GPP), community respiration (CR), the ratio of GPP/CR (P/R) and net daily metabolism (NDM) were estimated before and after canal backfilling and restoration of continuous flow through the river channel. 2. Restoration of flow through the river channel significantly increased reaeration rates and mean dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations from <2 mg L−1 before restoration of flow to 4.70 mg L−1 after flow was restored. 3. Annual GPP and CR rates were 0.43 g O2 m−2 day−1 and 1.61 g O2 m−2 day−1 respectively, before restoration of flow. After restoration of flow, annual GPP and CR rates increased to 3.95 O2 m−2 day−1 and 9.44 g O2 m−2 day−1 respectively. 4. The ratio of P/R (mean of monthly values) increased from 0.29 during the prerestoration period to 0.51 after flow was restored, indicating an increase in autotrophic processes in the restored river channel. NDM values became more negative after flow was restored. 5. After flow was restored, metabolism parameters were generally similar to those reported for other blackwater river systems in the southeast U.S.A. The muskellunge was introduced in the Saint John River system from stockings in a headwater lake in the 1970s. They have migrated
down the system as far as the river’s first dam, Mactaquac Hydroelectric Facility, at Fredericton and appear to have established
several reproducing populations along the river. This exotic invader represents a potential threat to the severely depleted
Atlantic salmon stocks in the river. We radio-tracked muskellunge over a 2-year period in the middle reaches. Home ranges
extended to ∼100 km in both riverine and lacustrine areas, including 78% of individuals trans-located upstream of the dam
making their way back through the dam successfully. Downstream of the dam, home ranges were <25 km. No spawning areas were
detected. An isotope analyses of diet indicated that the large sub-adults and adults had established the greatest proportion
of their biomass in a more 15N depleted environment typical of areas farther upstream. Isotope mixing models could not accurately determine the proportion
of Atlantic salmon smolts that may have been consumed by muskellunge, but anadromous salmon had ≤7% probabilities of being
in the diet. A bioenergetics model suggested ≤5% of the annual food intake by muskellunge occurs during the smolt out-migration
period. For the Saint John River, the impacts of growing numbers of muskellunge are multi-faceted creating a complex management
challenge. Muskellunge appear to minimally increase predation risk for Atlantic salmon smolts while their increasing numbers
are creating a growing recreational fishery and potential threat to the native fish community and ecosystem. 相似文献

海拉尔河是内蒙古自治区重要河流,对维持地区生态平衡具有极其重要的作用。选取海拉尔河下游河段作为研究对象(以下称海拉尔河),以遥感、气候、水文数据为基础,基于淹没频率模型分析探讨河漫滩湿地淹没情况对气候变化的响应。研究表明:海拉尔河气候近三十年呈现干冷变化趋势,多年平均降雨量356.45mm,年均减少11.64mm,多年平均温度-0.2℃,年均减少0.01℃;年径流呈减少趋势,年均减少2.05×108m3;温度下降导致冻土的增加,融雪补给径流减少,从温度层面上对径流产生影响,降雨直接补给径流,降雨减少,径流减少;各淹没频率下的淹没区域,受影响程度不同,大于80%极高淹没频率区受径流影响最小,0—20%极低频率区域受径流变化影响最大;气候-径流-淹没状态存在耦合关系,由于温度下降,研究区冰封时间增长,抑制春季径流的产生,降雨减少,夏秋季的径流延迟,影响河漫滩湿地水份供应,进而减少河水出槽次数,影响河漫滩湿地淹没状态。研究成果可为海拉尔河生态环境保护以及水资源开发利用提供理论支持。 相似文献

黄河三角洲作为我国暖温带最年轻、保存最完整的滨海湿地生态系统,在全球气候变化以及区域人类活动加剧的背景下,海平面上升和地面沉降加剧使得地区生态安全受到严重威胁。基于1991-2020年8期土地利用/覆被数据,使用生态系统服务和权衡的综合评估模型(InVEST)碳储量模块系统评估黄河三角洲过去30年的土地利用/覆被和碳储量时空变化特征,并进一步耦合海水淹没模型和斑块生成土地利用变化模拟软件(PLUS)预测生态保护、自然发展和经济发展三种情景下黄河三角洲2035和2050年土地利用/覆被和碳储量格局。结果表明:1991-2020年间,碳储量累计减少107.94万t,降幅为8.12%,自然湿地和非湿地碳储量分别减少386.66和18.56万t,人工湿地碳储量增加297.27万t。2035和2050年,黄河三角洲分别约有4.47%-11.58%和6.20%-17.42%的陆地会被海水淹没,导致未来黄河三角洲多情景模拟中碳储量均减少,到2035年生态保护、自然发展和经济发展情景下碳储量分别减少了42.38万t、76.68万t和119.50万t,到2050年三种情景碳储量分别减少了59.30万t、119.02万t和187.01万t,同时期生态保护情景下碳储量减少速率最小。黄河三角洲应坚持可持续发展,加强高碳储量土地利用/覆被类型的生态保护,通过回填开采区等方式减少地面沉降速率,并在可能被淹没的区域建设沿海堤坝以预防海水淹没,从而减少黄河三角洲的碳储量损失。研究指出了海水淹没会导致巨大的碳储量损失,可为黄河三角洲未来提高固碳增汇作用提供数据支撑和理论基础。 相似文献

We investigated how the relative availability of solar radiation in the presence or absence of grazing alters the ability of benthic algae to respond to nutrient enrichment in an Alaskan marsh. We used a factorial mesocosm experiment that included nutrient enrichment (enriched or control), grazing (grazed or ungrazed), and light (unshaded or shaded) to simulate shading by macrophytes early and late in the growing season, respectively. We found stronger effects of grazers and nutrients compared to light on benthic algal biomass and taxonomic composition. Algal biomass increased in nutrient‐enriched treatments and was reduced by grazing. Shading did not have an effect on algal biomass or taxonomic composition, but the concentration of chl a per algal biovolume increased with shading, demonstrating the ability of algae to compensate for changes in light availability. Algal taxonomic composition was more affected by grazer presence than nutrients or light. Grazer‐resistant taxa (basal filaments of Stigeoclonium) were replaced by diatoms (Nitzschia) and filamentous green algae (Ulothrix) when herbivores were removed. The interacting and opposing influences of nutrients and grazing indicate that the algal community is under dual control from the bottom‐up (nutrient limitation) and from the top‐down (consumption by herbivores), although grazers had a stronger influence on algal biomass and taxonomic composition than nutrient enrichment. Our results suggest that low light availability will not inhibit the algal response to elevated nutrient concentrations expected with ongoing climate change, but grazers rapidly consume algae following enrichment, masking the effects of elevated nutrients on algal production. 相似文献

Eutrophication has become increasingly serious and noxious algal blooms have been of more frequent occurrence in the Yangtze
River Estuary and in the adjacent East China Sea. In 2003 and 2004, four cruises were undertaken in three zones in the estuary
and in the adjacent sea to investigate nitrate (NO3–N), ammonium (NH4–N), nitrite (NO2–N), soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), dissolved reactive silica (DRSi), dissolved oxygen (DO), phytoplankton chlorophyll
a (Chl a) and suspended particulate matter (SPM). The highest concentrations of DIN (NO3–N+NH4–N+NO2–N), SRP and DRSi were 131.6, 1.2 and 155.6 μM, respectively. The maximum Chl a concentration was 19.5 mg m−3 in spring. An analysis of historical and recent data revealed that in the last 40 years, nitrate and SRP concentrations increased
from 11 to 97 μM and from 0.4 to 0.95 μM, respectively. From 1963 to 2004, N:P ratios also increased from 30–40 up to 150. In parallel with the N and P enrichment,
a significant increase of Chl a was detected, Chl a maximum being 20 mg m−3, nearly four times higher than in the 1980s. In 2004, the mean DO concentration in bottom waters was 4.35 mg l−1, much lower than in the 1980s. In comparison with other estuaries, the Yangtze River Estuary was characterized by high DIN
and DRSi concentrations, with low SRP concentrations. Despite the higher nutrient concentrations, Chl a concentrations were lower in the inner estuary (Zones 1 and 2) than in the adjacent sea (Zone 3). Based on nutrient availability,
SPM and hydrodynamics, we assumed that in Zones 1 and 2 phytoplankton growth was suppressed by high turbidity, large tidal
amplitude and short residence time. Furthermore, in Zone 3 water stratification was also an important factor that resulted
in a greater phytoplankton biomass and lower DO concentrations. Due to hydrodynamics and turbidity, the open sea was unexpectedly

During the early 1900s, more than 90% of the surface area of Cootes Paradise Marsh was covered with emergent vegetation; currently, less than 15% of the surface is covered with aquatic vegetation and the remainder is wind-swept, turbid, open water. The loss of emergent cover is significantly correlated with mean annual water levels that increased more than 1.5 m over the past 60 years. Species diversity and the percent cover of the submerged macrophtye community also declined dramatically after the 1940s, coincident with decreased water clarity and increased nutrients from pollution by sewage and stormwater effluent. Phosphorus levels in the marsh dropped ten-fold after the sewage plant was upgraded to a tertiary-treatment facility in 1978; however, there was no measurable improvement in water clarity, in spite of a decrease in chlorophyll concentrations. Long-term changes in the composition of the planktonic, benthic and fish communities accompanied changes in water clarity, nutrient status and macrophyte cover. Phytoplankton changed from a community dominated by diverse taxa of green algae and diatoms during the 1940s, to a less diverse community dominated by a few taxa of green and blue-green algae in the 1970s, then to a much more diverse community recently, including many taxa of green algae, diatoms and chrysophytes; however, because water turbidity continues to be high, and algae tolerant of low light levels are now very abundant. Daphnia, which were prominent during the 1940s (especially in the vegetated sites) were replaced in the 1970s by smaller zooplankton such as the cladoceran, Bosmina, and several rotifer species including Brachionus, Asplanchna and Keratella. In the recent survey conducted in 1993 and 1994, small-bodied forms still dominate the turbid open-water areas, while medium-sized cladocerans such as Moina were common near macrophyte beds. Generally, total herbivorous zooplankton biomass tended to be highest next to Typha beds and declined with increasing distance from the plants. Conversely, biomass of edible algae at these sites increased with distance from the macrophytes. Species diversity of aquatic insects declined dramatically over the past 40 years, from 57 genera (23 families and 6 orders) in 1948, to 9 genera (6 families and 3 orders) in 1978, to only 5 genera (3 families and 2 orders) in 1995. The diverse benthic community present 5 decades ago has now been replaced by a community consisting primarily of chironomid larvae, oligochaetes and other worms associated with low-oxygen environments. These successional changes illustrate the impact of natural (fluctuating water levels) and anthropogenic (deterioration in water quality) stressors on the character of the biotic communities, and reveal the complex interactions among the various trophic levels and the abiotic environment as degradation and remediation proceeded. 相似文献

Air pollution is one of the top environmental concerns and causes of deaths and various diseases worldwide. An important question for sustainable development is to what extent urban design can improve or degrade urban air quality. In this article, we explored the relationship between ground-based observations of air pollution and urban form in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD), the largest metropolitan region in China. We analyzed six criteria pollutants (SO2, NO2, PM10, PM2.5, CO, O3) and summarized metric (air quality index, AQI) from 129 ambient air quality monitoring stations during 2015. Urban form was characterized using six spatial metrics, including the size, shape, regularity, fragmentation and traffic coupling factor of urban patches, based on satellite-derived land cover data. The results indicated that: (1) PM2.5, PM10 and O3 were three primary pollutants in the YRD. The annual average AQI was 79, and the air quality was “moderate” for human health, with the highest and lowest AQI appeared in winter (107) and summer (60). Moreover, the air quality of the southern areas (Zhejiang province, AQI: 68) was generally better than the northern parts (Jiangsu province, AQI: 86). (2) Through the size and shape of urban patches, urban form had a significant effect on urban air quality in the YRD. PARA_MN (Mean Perimeter-area ratio), ENN_MN (Mean Euclidean Nearest Neighbor Distance), CA (Total Urban Area) and NP (Number of urban patches) had the most significant impacts on air quality. PM10 and PM2.5 were two important pollutants highly positively related to CA and NP, while negatively related to PARA_MN and ENN_MN. In addition, the polycentric urban form was associated with high air quality. (3) Land use configuration was an important indicator to describe the urban air quality. When buffer distance of spatial scale was 25 km, air quality showed the highest correlation with forest coverage. A high forest coverage rate contributed to the better air quality, increasing or preserving the forested areas would help mitigate the air pollution. 相似文献

A digital data base was constructed by photo interpretation, mapping, and digitizing seven dates of aerial photography on the St. Marys River, Michigan, USA. The data base was used in conjunction with geographic information system software to examine historical changes in wetland area. Total wetland area between 1939 and 1985 ranged from 7 200 to 7 317 ha over a 46-year period of high and low water. There was greatest variation in areas of emergent wetland and scrub-shrub wetland, which appeared to be responding primarily to changes in water level. 相似文献

1. Fish assemblages and habitats were sampled annually at fixed sites in three tributaries of the Gila River catchment over a 21‐year span that included prolonged low‐ and high‐flow periods. Model selection was used to evaluate responses of seven native fishes with variable ecological traits (four small‐bodied cyprinids, one large‐bodied cyprinid, and two large‐bodied catostomids) to mean annual discharge and predacious non‐native fishes across the three sites. We also compared habitat use and overlap of native and non‐native fishes to identify potential for negative interactions among species. 2. Assemblage structure (species abundance and richness) and recruitment of native species was strongly and primarily affected by mean annual discharge and secondarily by location and densities of non‐native predators (mainly the centrarchid Micropterus dolomieui). 3. Densities of age‐0 catostomids and small‐bodied cyprinids were positively associated with discharge, and this pattern was strongest in the tributary with the lowest densities of non‐native predators. Absence or extreme low abundance of natives during low‐flow years was most pronounced at the sites where non‐native predators were comparatively common. Densities of adults of large‐bodied native species also varied by site, but often were positively associated with densities of non‐native predators. 4. Spatially variable responses of native fish assemblages indicated that the persistence of native fishes could be jeopardized if key habitats were lost or flow regimes unnaturally altered, particularly during low‐flow conditions when recruitment of native fishes is low and predation by non‐natives is high. Large‐bodied species may be less vulnerable to multiple years of poor conditions because adults are able to avoid predation by non‐natives and thus can rely on occasional high discharge years for successful recruitment. 5. As in other arid‐land streams, native fish assemblages of the Gila River Basin continue to decline. Our results indicate that conservation requires specific knowledge and consideration of physical influences as well as life‐history attributes of native and non‐native fishes. 相似文献

在气候变化和人类活动的双重作用下,黄河流域生态环境不断发生变化。探讨植被生长动态对于实施生态保护政策至关重要。利用Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer(AVHRR) Leaf Area Index(LAI)遥感资料,结合气候要素数据,分析1981—2017年黄河流域植被覆盖的时空分布特征,探讨气候要素对其变化的影响及贡献率。研究结果表明:(1)时序上,黄河流域植被覆盖呈显著增长趋势,夏季植被覆盖的增长幅度和年际波动最大,冬季植被覆盖呈缓慢平稳增长,波动最小。(2)空间上,植被覆盖显著提高的区域占整个区域的52.1%,主要分布在中东部平原;显著降低的区域占4%,主要分布在北部和西部高原山地;生态脆弱的区域植被覆盖率大多有不同程度的提高,但生态环境良好的部分区域植被覆盖率降低。(3)时序上,黄河流域植被覆盖与气温具有显著的正相关关系。春夏冬三季的植被覆盖与气温呈显著正相关,与降水呈不显著关系;秋季的植被覆盖与气温和降水量均呈显著正相关;春秋冬三季的植被覆盖与太阳辐射呈不显著负相关,夏季的植被覆盖与太阳辐射呈不显著正相关。春夏秋冬四季的气温对植被覆... 相似文献

沿岸鲸豚类栖息地易受人类活动的干扰,导致其分布和核心栖息地发生变化。珠江口-漠阳江口中华白海豚种群是目前所知全球范围内最大的种群,其中伶仃洋水域是其重要的栖息地。近年来,珠江口伶仃洋周边城市发展带来的人类活动增加,白海豚的生存压力日益增大,分析伶仃洋中华白海豚对栖息地环境变化的响应,研究对应的保护策略显得非常迫切。以多源陆地资源卫星Landsat为数据源,通过影像分析近43年珠江口伶仃洋围填海造成的海域流失,结合近20年来采用截线抽样法收集的海豚观测数据,运用含障碍核插值(Kernel interpolation with barriers)方法,分析白海豚的分布及核心栖息地的变化。结果显示:1986-2015年期间,研究区域内流失的海域面积为344.08km2;目击分布离人工海岸线的平均距离大于自然海岸线的平均距离,目击分布到自然海岸线和人工海岸线的平均距离均在减小,表明过去20年白海豚的栖息地使用选择发生了一些变化,被迫适应人类活动的干扰;1997-2016年白海豚的分布范围呈现先增加后减小,白海豚栖息地使用的重心偏向伶仃洋东部水域,核心栖息地趋向主航道和无人海岛附近水域萎缩,可能是海豚因海域食物资源减少而迫不得已的选择。不同时期,珠江口中华白海豚国家级自然保护区所覆盖的核心栖息地比例呈递减趋势,占比由79.9%下降到49.4%,当前有必要对保护区范围和功能区作出一些优化调整,以适应栖息地使用的变化格局。 相似文献

The spatial movement of Labeobarbus marequensis was evaluated by attaching radio transmitters to 16 adult fish and tracking them from August 2009 to July 2012 in the Crocodile River, Kruger National Park, South Africa. Monthly monitoring surveys acquired 1 620 manual and 64 499 remote observations. Results showed adult L. marequensis did not participate in any migrations. Habitat preferences for L. marequensis were deep runs and fast glides, and there was disproportionately high use of submerged boulders as a cover feature. Tagged individuals also made use of rapids and pools, however, avoided shallow sandy slow glides. There was a reduced activity response of tagged individuals to rapid changes in water discharge. Continued changes in flow and instream habitat might threaten the Crocodile River population. Additional investigation into the effect of altered flows and associated habitat availability to the movement of L. marequensis is needed to better understand the effect of anthropogenic water resource use on L. marequensis in the Crocodile River. 相似文献

水资源短缺是黄土高原面临的最为关键的一个生态环境问题。研究黄土高原地区河川径流演变对土地利用与气候变化的响应是开展适应性流域管理的基础。该文以黄河流域中游山西省吉县境内的清水河流域(面积436 km2)为研究对象, 采用非参数统计秩检验法(Mann-Kendall)、滑动t检验和跃变参数分析法, 对该流域1959-2005年的年径流量、降水量和潜在蒸发散量进行了趋势分析和突变点验证; 用遥感数据判读和解译的结果分析了该流域不同时期土地利用变化; 在此基础上根据水量平衡原理, 分析了土地利用变化和气候变化对流域径流变化的贡献, 并采用FDC曲线法分析了二者对高、中、低流量变化的影响。研究结果表明: 该流域年径流量在1959-2005年的47年间呈显著下降趋势, 突变点出现在1980年, 但该流域降水量没有出现明显的趋势性变化, 而以Hamon公式计算的流域年潜在蒸发散则呈显著上升趋势, 其突变点出现在1997年。该流域气候变化和土地利用变化对年径流减少的贡献率分别为46.79%和53.21%。综合以上结果可以看出, 潜在蒸发散增加和乔木林地面积增加是导致该流域径流减少的重要原因。 相似文献

生态输水作为一项改善黑河下游生态环境的人工输水工程,研究土壤水盐与地表植被对输水的响应对于下游植被的恢复与重建具有重要的理论和实践意义。以2001年和2010年野外土壤和植物样方调查资料为基础,探讨了黑河下游土壤水盐对生态输水的响应及其与植被生长的关系,结果表明:(1)输水后不同深度土壤含水率的增加幅度依次为:胡杨林>柽柳林>草地;(2)不同群落土壤含盐量的增加幅度依次为:苦豆子>柽柳>梭梭>胡杨;同时,土壤盐分主要以HCO3-和Na+为主的轻度盐化土向以SO42-、Cl-及Ca2+等为主的中度和强度盐化土转化;(3)以胡杨为例,土壤含水率小于6%时,密度和冠幅与土壤含水率呈正相关,但大于6%时,冠幅和密度分别介于40-70 m2和0.5-5株/100m2之间;同样,土壤水溶性盐含量小于1%时,密度和冠幅与土壤含水率呈正相关,但大于1%时,密度在0.5-5株/100m2之间,造成上述结果的原因更多是群落的一种"自然稀疏"现象。 相似文献
