The appearance of an acute renal insufficiency in the rabbit, after glycerol injection (10, 13 or 15 ml/kg of a 50% solution) is investigated. After a 24 hours of intoxication, especially in the ten following days, cylinders, erythrocytes and renal cells appear in the urine sediment. Proteinuria appears after 24 hours and practically disappears after 72 h. Glucosuria persists from 24 hours to 6 days. Haemoglobinuria is intense after 24 and 48 hours and persists slightly about 6 days. Na, K and Cl elimination in urine diminishes clearly in all animals. Plasma K increases in non-surviving animals and does not change in those surviving. Plasma Na does not change in the dying ones, and decreases in those surviving. In non-surviving animals, pH, pCO2 and CO3H minus decrease sharply. In the surviving ones pCO2 decreases clearly after 24 hours, increasing afterwards slowly to normal values. pH increases, slightly during the first 48 hours, and then neatly during approximately 6 days. Standard CO2H minus does not change during the first 48 hours, increasing afterwards during 6 to 7 days. Histologically, the chief lesion is a vacuolar degeneration of the proximal tubule. The possible mechanisms of such alterations are discussed.  相似文献

Allgrove syndrome (triple-A syndrome) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by adrenocorticotropin hormone-resistant adrenal insufficiency, achalasia and alacrima. Aside from the classic features of the syndrome, several abnormalities including mainly neurological abnormalities have been reported in the syndrome. Herein, we presented a case of Allgrove syndrome associated with left renal ectopla. To the best of our knowledge renal abnormality in Allgrove syndrome has not been reported in the literature until now. We think that ectopic kidney diagnosed in our patient is coincidental because the incidence of renal ectopia is high, approximately 1 in 900 in population.  相似文献

By the end of 1985, 126 human cases of laboratory acquired hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) were recorded in Japan. Seroepidemiological studies revealed that laboratory rats exhibited high IFA titers against Hantaan or related viruses at locations where HFRS patients occurred. Laboratory researchers contracted HFRS more frequently than laboratory animal technicians or caretakers, although a laboratory animal caretaker died of the disease. Inhalation of HFRS-virus contaminated air in an animal facility is the likely cause of infection with this virus. Wound infection during animal experiments may be another important route of infection. Infection of laboratory rats can occur by transferring animals from contaminated to other animal facilities. Tissue fragments or cells of transplantable animal tumors are a potential source of spreading the HFRS virus. Eradication of HFRS virus from a contaminated animal facility can be achieved best by elimination of all animals in the room, especially when human HFRS is associated with an infected colony. In some cases, when IFA titers of the sera of the rats tested were low, infection apparently disappeared without instituting any particular control measures other than ordinary procedures for care and management of laboratory animals. HFRS viruses have not yet been eradicated from all animal facilities in Japan. Therefore, serological monitoring of laboratory rats continues.  相似文献

The plasma turnover of 125I beta 2 microglobulin (B2m) was studied in two healthy adults, two anuric patients (one of them without kidneys) and eight patients with various degrees of renal insufficiency. Results were analyzed according to a bicompartmental model. The fractional metabolic rate was positively correlated with inulin clearance, and little (less than 3.5%) extrarenal catabolism was demonstrated. The half-life of B2m in intravascular compartment varied from 107 min in normals to more than 39 hrs in the anephric patient.  相似文献

Background

Depressive disorders are frequent in epilepsy and associated with reduced seizure control. Almost 50% of interictal depressive disorders have to be classified as atypical depressions according to DSM-4 criteria. Research has mainly focused on depressive symptoms in defined populations with epilepsy (e.g., patients admitted to tertiary epilepsy centers). We have chosen the opposite approach. We hypothesized that it is possible to define by clinical means a subgroup of psychiatric patients with higher than expected prevalence of epilepsy and seizures. We hypothesized further that these patients present with an Acute Unstable Depressive Syndrome (AUDS) that does not meet DSM-IV criteria of a Major Depressive Episode (MDE). In a previous publication we have documented that AUDS patients indeed have more often a history of epileptic seizures and abnormal EEG recordings than MDE patients (Vaaler et al. 2009). This study aimed to further classify the differences of depressive symptoms at admittance and follow-up of patients with AUDS and MDE.  相似文献

Serological studies of Hantaan virus infections among--blood donors (control group)--patients: chronic dialysed, leptospirosis suspected, hospitalised for various diseases,--risk group population: farmers, laboratory staff (contact with laboratory animals), as well as laboratory and wild animals (rodents) were carried out. Surveys were done by the indirect immunofluorescent antibody (IFA) procedure with 5 Hantaan virus strains as antigens.  相似文献

Aquaporins (AQPs) play fundamental roles in water and osmolyte homeostasis by facilitating water and small solute movement across plasma membranes of epithelial, endothelial, and other tissues. AQP proteins are abundantly expressed in the mammalian kidney, where they have been shown to play essential roles in fluid balance and urine concentration. Thus far, the majority of studies on renal AQPs have been carried out in laboratory rodents and sheep; no data have been published on the expression of AQPs in kidneys of equines or other large mammals. The aim of this comparative study was to determine the expression and nephron segment localization of AQP1-4 in Equus caballus by immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry with custom-designed rabbit polyclonal antisera. AQP1 was found in apical and basolateral membranes of the proximal convoluted tubules and thin descending limbs of the loop of Henle. AQP2 expression was specifically detected in apical membranes of cortical, medullary, and papillary collecting ducts. AQP3 was expressed in basolateral membranes of cortical, medullary, and papillary collecting ducts. Immunohistochemistry also confirmed AQP4 expression in basolateral membranes of cells lining the distal convoluted and connecting tubules. Western blots revealed high expression of AQP1-4 in the equine kidney. These observations confirm that AQPs are expressed in the equine kidney and are found in similar nephron locations to mouse, rat, and human kidney. Equine renal AQP proteins are likely to be involved in acute and chronic regulation of body fluid composition and may be implicated in water balance disorders brought about by colic and endotoxemia.  相似文献

Splenectomised calves in metabolism cages were infected with Babesia bovis. During the infection, urine samples were collected and analysed for electrolytes, proteins, kinin, and urinary kallikrein. During the later stages of the infection there were significant reductions in urinary volume, water intake, urinary kinin, kallikrein, and electrolytes. Proteinuria was detected from 3--8 days postinfection of which 15--20% was haemoglobin and most of the remainder was albumin (70--75%). Fibrin degradation products, fibrinogen-like products, and haptoglobin were not detected. Degeneration of cortical tubules was detected by histological studies. As these tubules produce urinary kallikrein it seems probable that diminished glomerular blood flow and hence glomerular filtration rate are due to decreased production of this enzyme.  相似文献
