The first syninclusion of the myrmicine Monomorium mayrianum Wheeler (two workers) and the aphid Germaraphis ungulata Heie (one nymph) is described from the Bitterfeld amber. Additionally, G. ungulata is recorded in a syninclusion with Ctenobethylus goepperti (Mayr) in the Rovno amber for the first time.  相似文献

The first fossil mite of the family Pyemotidae (Acari: Heterostigmata) is recorded. Pyemotes primus sp. nov. is described from the Late Eocene of the Rovno amber from a syninclusion with the bark beetles Taphramites rovnoensis Petrov et Perkovsky, 2008. In the presence of well developed longitudinal striation on hysterosomal tergites, the new species is similar to species from scolyti group, which is characterized by parasitoidism on immature stages of bark beetles and phoresy on adult stages. P. primus differs from the closely related species P. dryas (Vitzthum, 1923), P. parviscolyti Cross et Moser, 1971, P. johnmoseri Khaustov, 2004, and P. mandelshtami Khaustov, 1998 in the subequal setae h 1 and h 2.  相似文献

Ant species found as syninclusions with aphids in Rovno and Saxonian ambers are listed for the first time. In a collection of 143 pieces of Rovno amber with worker ants, aphids were found in only one syninclusion with Ctenobethylus goepperti (Mayr). In a collection of Saxonian amber, 53 aphids of the genus Germaraphis were found in 152 amber pieces with ant workers; five syninclusions with aphids contained 19 specimens of C. goepperti; two syninclusions contained ten specimens of Lasius schiefferdeckeri Mayr; and three syninclusions contained one specimen each: one Camponotus mengei Mayr, one Anonichomyrma constricta (Mayr), and one Formica flori Mayr. Considering that the Rovno and Saxonian collections are nearly equal in the number of amber pieces, the fundamental difference in the number of syninclusions is striking. The number of C. goepperti in syninclusions is disproportionately high; the proportion of syninclusions with aphids and C. goepperti is 1.6 times that of all inclusions of workers of this species. They are found in 31% of examined inclusions of workers in the collection of the Saxonian amber, but in 50% of syninclusions of the entire collection. This strongly suggests that C. goepperti and Germaraphis formed an association during their lifetime.  相似文献

We describe here a co-occurrence (i.e. a syninclusion) of ants and termites in a piece of Mexican amber (Totolapa deposit, Chiapas), whose importance is two-fold. First, this finding suggests at least a middle Miocene antiquity for the modern, though poorly documented, relationship between Azteca ants and Nasutitermes termites. Second, the presence of a Neivamyrmex army ant documents an in situ raiding behaviour of the same age and within the same community, confirmed by the fact that the army ant is holding one of the termite worker between its mandibles and by the presence of a termite with bitten abdomen. In addition, we present how CT-scan imaging can be an efficient tool to describe the topology of resin flows within amber pieces, and to point out the different states of preservation of the embedded insects. This can help achieving a better understanding of taphonomical processes, and tests ethological and ecological hypotheses in such complex syninclusions.  相似文献

The breeding system and floral characteristics of Bauhinia ungulata L. were investigated during two consecutive flowering cycles (Dec-Feb). This tree grows in savannas in small sized patches scattered in the grassland and in larger tree clusters called “mata.” Anthesis occurs between 17:00 and 19:30. Anther dehiscence and nectar secretion begin one hour after anthesis. Nectar is produced for 10 to 12 hr with an average sugar concentration of 13.5%. Flowers in small trees secrete nectar at a higher rate than do flowers in bigger trees. Two phyllostomatid bat species, Glossophaga soricina and Phyllostomus discolor, visit the flowers of B. ungulata between 20:00 and 4:00. Visits of variable duration occur every 1 to 2 hr. In general, the times of greatest nectar production, of highest solute concentration of the nectar and of most frequent visits by the main pollinators coincide. The flowers are significantly dimorphic in pistil length, and ovules are abortive in the short-pistil flowers. Artificial self- and cross-pollinations in long-and short-pistil flowers show that B. ungulata is genetically self-incompatible and functionally andromonoecious.  相似文献

A hitherto unknown rotifer species was found in ponds of Doñana National Park (Spain) during winter 1990, 1991 and 1992. It belongs to the family Lecanidae (Monogononta), is related to Lecane ungulata and superficially resembles Lecane leontina.Two specimens of this species hatched after two days incubation of pond sediments in the laboratory.  相似文献

A new bibenzyl, 2′‐hydroxy‐3,5‐dimethoxy‐4‐methylbibenzyl ( 1 ) and four known compounds identified as 2′‐hydroxy‐3,5‐dimethoxybibenzyl ( 2 ), liquiritigenin ( 3 ), guibourtinidol ( 4 ) and fisetinidol ( 5 ) were isolated from the roots of Bauhinia ungulata L. Phytochemical investigations of the stems of Bungulata led to the isolation of the known compounds identified as liquiritigenin ( 3 ), guibourtinidol ( 4 ), fisetinidol ( 5 ), taraxerol ( 6 ), betulinic acid ( 7 ), taraxerone ( 8 ), glutinol ( 9 ), a mixture of sitosterol ( 10 ) and stigmasterol ( 11 ), pacharin ( 12 ), naringenin ( 13 ) and eriodictyol ( 14 ). The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of their spectral data (IR, MS, 1D‐ and 2D‐NMR). The cytotoxicity of the bibenzyl 1 has been evaluated against four human cancer cell lines, showing the IC50 values of 4.3 and 6.5 μg ml?1 against pro‐myelocytic leukemia (HL‐60) and cervical adenocarcinoma (HEP‐2) cell lines, respectively. The Baltic amber deposit represents the largest accumulation of any fossil resin worldwide and hundreds of thousands of entrapped arthropods have been recovered so far. The source plants of Baltic amber, however, are still controversial, and the botanical composition of the ‘Baltic amber forest’ remains poorly studied. Here, we provide the first unequivocal Baltic amber inclusions of the umbrella pine Sciadopitys (Sciadopityaceae), a genus that has been suggested as the source of succinite (the main variety of Baltic amber) based on chemical analyses. As previously suggested sciadopitoid inclusions must be reconsidered as being notional, representing angiosperm leaves instead, the new fossils are the first unambiguous macrofossil evidence of Sciadopitys from the ‘Baltic amber forest’, and the first pre‐Oligocene macrofossil record of Sciadopitys from Europe. The fossil Sciadopitys cladodes provide new insights into the conifer diversity of the ‘Baltic amber forest’ and broaden the picture of its palaeoecology, indicating the presence of humid swamp to raised bog habitats. © 2015 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2016, 180 , 258–268.  相似文献

亚洲新生代藓类植物化石非常稀少,漳浦琥珀是目前已知的我国低纬度地区唯一含苔藓植物化石的新生代琥珀矿床。漳浦琥珀源自中中新世气候适宜期(~14-17 Ma)的龙脑香树脂,温暖潮湿的热带季雨林气候和广泛分布的龙脑香科植物,为藓类植物的生长、多样性演化和三维立体保存提供了条件。本研究共报道了漳浦县中中新世藓类植物化石3个属种,包括:白发藓属Leucobryum Hampe、牛舌藓属Anomodon Hook.et Taylor和扁枝藓属Homalia(Brid.)B.S.G.。首次利用三维X射线断层扫描技术(Micro-CT)研究了白发藓属化石,发现其与现生种短枝白发藓Leucobryum humillimum Cardot非常相似,因此将其命名为短枝白发藓(相似种)Leucobryum cf.humillimum。此外,当前牛舌藓属Anomodon和扁枝藓属Homalia化石是东亚地区的首例记录。漳浦琥珀中的藓类植物化石揭示了中中新世时期苔藓植物的多样性,丰富了东亚低纬度地区新生代苔藓植物的化石记录。  相似文献

Summary An amber mutation (glnA3711), the first nonsense mutation isolated in Klebsiella aerogenes, is described. When amber suppressors were present, the mutant made active glutamine synthetase which was more thermolabile than wild type, showing that glnA3711 lies in the structural gene for glutamine synthetase. Strains carrying the glnA3711 allele were unable to express nitrogen regulation of genes coding for histidase, asparaginase, and glutamate dehydrogenase unless amber suppressors were also present. These results support a model that expression of gene(s) from the glnA promoter is required for nitrogen regulation in K. aerogenes.  相似文献

The first fossil species of a Melissotarsus ant is described (Melissotarsus ethiopiensis n. sp.), suggesting that Ethiopian amber could be cenozoic rather than cretaceous. This hypothesis is supported by a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis of the amber itself, suggesting a weak maturation of the fossil resin, and a revision of the pyrolysis–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (PY-GC-MS) analysis done by Schmidt and his collaborators in 2010, in an article in which the deposit was described for the first time.  相似文献

Eohomopterus simojovelensis n. sp., the first fossil record of the subfamily Paussinae (Coleoptera: Carabidae) from the Miocene amber of the Simojovel area, Chiapas, Mexico, is described. The morphology of the new species is compared withEohomopterus poinari Nagel, 1997 from Dominican amber as well as with extant representatives ofEohomopterus, and the biogeographical implications are discussed.   相似文献

Previous phylogenetic analyses of Strepsiptera have been limited to characters from only males or first instar larvae, and by poor taxonomic sampling. This investigation is the first cladistic analysis to use more than fourfold as many characters as any prior study, and a broader sampling of taxa. The analysis of 189 morphological characters of all stages of representatives of all extant strepsipteran families and characters of adult males of amber fossils results in the following branching pattern: (?Protoxenos+ (?Cretostylops + (?Mengea + (Mengenillidae + (Corioxenidae + (Bohartillidae + (Halictophagidae + (Elenchidae + (?Protelencholax + (Myrmecolacidae + (Callipharixenidae + (Xenidae + Stylopidae)))))))))))). The basal placement of the Baltic amber fossil ?Protoxenos and the Burmese amber fossil ?Cretostylops is well founded. Even though ?Cretostylops is older than ?Protoxenos it is almost certainly not the most basal strepsipteran group but the sister group of a clade comprising the Baltic amber fossil ?Mengea + Strepsiptera s. str. (excl. stemlineage). Monophyly of Mengenillidae, Stylopidia, Stylopiformia s.l., Corioxenidae, Xenidae, and Stylopidae is confirmed. Mengenillidia is paraphyletic (with respect to ?Mengea (Mengeidae)), Elenchidae (with respect to ?Protelencholax) and the genus Stichotrema (with respect to the Baltic amber fossils). Thus Protelencholacidae fam. n. is described, and S. weitschati and S. triangulum are transferred to Palaeomyrmecolax. A ground plan of adult male Strepsiptera is provided and evolutionary interpretations are presented based on the obtained cladograms. © The Willi Hennig Society 2005.  相似文献

The Ortheziidae (ensign scale insects) is a morphologically well‐defined family. The morphology and occurrence in the fossil record suggests a probable early origin of the family in scale insect evolution. The present phylogenetic analysis – based on 69 morphological characters of female ortheziids, using 39 exemplar Recent species – provides the first analytical assessment of relationships among living genera of the family, as well as the relationships of eight fossil species, based on complete, well‐preserved specimens in amber. Monophyly of the subfamilies Newsteadiinae, Ortheziinae and Ortheziolinae is supported, but Nipponortheziinae is found to be paraphyletic by inclusion of the Ortheziolinae. Thus, the subfamily Ortheziolinae is reduced in rank to tribe Ortheziolini stat.n. , which now includes Matileortheziola Kozár & Foldi, Ortheziolacoccus Kozár, Ortheziolamameti Kozár and Ortheziola?ulc. Consequently, the tribes Matileortheziolini, Ortheziolacoccini and Ortheziolamametini are synonymized ( syn.n. ) here under Ortheziolini. Five new species and one new genus of fossil ensign scales are described from three amber deposits: Burmorthezia gen.n. with type species Burmorthezia kotejai sp.n. and also B. insolita sp.n ., both in mid‐Cretaceous Burmese amber (98 Ma) and Arctorthezia baltica sp.n. in Eocene Baltic amber (c. 43 Ma) based on second‐instar nymphs; Mixorthezia kozari sp.n . and M. dominicana sp.n . in Miocene Dominican amber (c. 17 Ma) based on adult females. Fossil placements are unambiguous, with Burmorthezia forming a stem to crown‐group (Recent and Tertiary) Ortheziidae. A summary of described fossil ortheziids is provided.  相似文献

Abstract. The first definitive ibaliid wasp (Cynipoidea: Ibaliidae) is described and illustrated from a female preserved in middle Eocene (Lutetian) Baltic amber. Archaeibalia succinica Liu & Engel gen. et sp.n. is distinct from all other members of the family, cladistically placed as sister to all other Ibaliidae, and classified in its own subfamily, Archaeibaliinae Liu & Engel subfam.n. The genus was putatively a parasitoid of wood‐boring insects in hardwood trees. Given that the species is exceptionally rare in Baltic amber (a single individual) despite a habitat that would have placed it in immediate proximity with resin flows, the host of A. succinica was probably not living in the ‘Baltic amber tree’. The historical biogeography and evolution of ibaliids is reconsidered based on the present paleontological evidence.  相似文献

New genera and species of jumping ground bugs (Hemiptera: Schizopteridae) are described in Dominican and Burmese amber. In Dominican amber are described: Hypselosoma dominicana Poinar & Brown sp. n., Schizoptera dominicana Poinar sp. n. and Schizoptera hispaniolae Poinar sp. n. In Burmese amber are described: Lumatibialis burmitis Poinar gen. et sp. n. and Hexaphlebia burmanica Poinar gen. et sp. n. A triungulin attached to the dorsum of the abdomen of Lumatibialis burmitis is described as Microentomus epibatus Poinar gen. et sp. n. in the family Meloidae (Coleoptera). This specimen represents the oldest known triungulin and the first fossil phoretic association of a triungulin and hemipteran.  相似文献

New species of rhynchitid weevils, Rhynchitobius tanyrhinus n. sp. and R. xuthocolus n. sp. (Coleoptera: Rhynchitidae) in the tribe Auletini are described from Dominican amber. The former species is characterized by a long rostrum, narrow pronotum and elytra, rugose elytral intervals and distinct elytral striae. The latter species has a short rostrum, wide antennal club, yellow legs, non-rugose elytral intervals and weak elytral striae. The present study describes the first representatives of the family Rhynchitidae from Dominican amber.  相似文献

Summary An amber mutation has been induced in the gene rpsA (which codes fo ribosomal protein S1) of Escherichia coli K-12 strain in the presence of an amber suppressor (supD) and mutations sueA, sueB and sueC that additively enhance the efficiency of suppression. That the amber mutation has occurred in the gene rpsA was confirmed by complementation with a plasmid which carried the wild-type allele of rpsA. The mutation is lethal in the absence of an amber suppressor, indicating that ribosomal protein S1 is indispensable to E. coli.  相似文献
