Anmerkungen zum diacytischen Spaltöffnungstyp und zur taxonomischen Bedeutung der Spaltöffnungen im allgemeinen

Der sogenannte diacytische Spaltöffnungstyp ist uneinheitlich. Bei den Acanthaceen gliedert die Initiale, ähnlich einer Scheitelzelle, (zwei) drei bis sieben segmentartige Zellen ab, so daß die Schließzellen stets an zwei Nebenzellen grenzen. Dies entspricht dem diallelocytischen Typ im Sinne von Payne . Bei den Caryophyllaceen ist dagegen die Zahl der angrenzenden Nebenzellen variabel, und nur eine ist mesogen. Die Stomata sind danach dem anomocytischen Typ zuzurechnen. Dies gilt auch für die “diacytische” Form; sie stellt nur einen Sonderfall mit zwei Nebenzellen dar, der nicht allgemein verbreitet und auch bei schmalblättrigen Arten nicht konstant ist. Der taxonomische Wert der Spaltöffnungen ist, wie bei jedem anderen Einzelmerkmal, begrenzt. Wenn mehrere Typen in einem Taxon auftreten, lassen sich diese aber vielleicht als Glieder einer Reduktions- bzw. Progressionreihe auffassen, die für die Gruppe charakteristisch ist. Als das gemeinsame End- bzw. Anfangsglied der verschiedenen Reihen wird der perigen-anomocytische Typ angenommen     

Die Gesellschaften der Klasse Festuco-Brometea im westlichen Teil des böhmischen Xerothermgebietes 1. Teil

The lowland part is the centre of the hollow, which is formed by the territory of Bohbmia. There and in the part of contigues hills are concentrated xeroterm species out of which xeroterm and subceroterm association are formed (Czech xeroterm territory). Part of them, rock and meadow steppes, belong to the class Festuco-Brometea. The centre of the occurance of these xeroterm associations in Bohemia is excentrically shifted, owing to Krušné hory (Erzgebirge) mountains rain shade. Only limited choice of them are concentrated in the western part, which stands in the centre of attention of the translated study. By the analysis of the Festuco-Brometea inside the investigated territory I found out only one order, Festucetalia valesiacae with two unions, Festucion valesiacae (in which subunions Festucenion valesiacae and Astragalo-Achilleenion can be distinguished) and Cirsio-Brachypodion, I present 19 associations of them. The associations are floristically characterised and their ecology and extension in Bohemia are designated. Some of them are subdividet into lower syntaxonomic units. Syntaxonomic units of the corresponding syntaxonomic range presented from Bohemia and the nearest xeroterm territories are compared with the published material. The units, which are nomenclatoricaly used are standardized. For chorological and synchorological purposes the subdivision of the Czech xeroterm territory into five fytogeographical districts was used. The North Bohemia forest-steppe district is the centre of the Festuco-Brometea class occurance. There is the centre of Cirrdo Brachypodion unions occurance. The occurance of the subunion Astragalo-Achilleenion is nearly limited to this territory too. The mein centres of the occurance of the subunion Festucenion valesiacae are the hollow parts of Czech xeroterm territory, Milezovka highlands and Vltava-Beroun district.     

Stromuli. Plastiden‐Brücken im Netzwerk der Zelle

Plastidic bridges in the plant cell network: Stromules Stromules are mobile protrusions emanating from plastids. They might form bridges between plastids and connect them also with other compartments of the plant cell. They could be involved in coordination of plastid activities and in signalling. Stromules have been first observed in the water fern Selaginella more than 100 years ago. Later improved light microscopy enabled the visualization of stromules in higher plant plastids. 15 years ago, since plants accumulating the green fluorescing proteins (GPF) in the stroma became available they have been newly detected and are now studied intensively. Formation of stromules differs among plant tissues, developmental stages and environmental situations. Actin and myosin are required for the formation of stromules.     

Untersuchungen im Wurzelbereich mit der bodenkundlichen Dünnschlifftechnik: Möglichkeiten und Schwierigkeiten

Zur Gewinnung mikroskopischer Präparate des Wurzelraumes kann die bodenkundliche Dünnschliff-Technik verwendet werden, wenn sie in geeigneter Weise abgeändert wird. Lufttrocknung ist ungeeignet, Gefriertrocknung bringt brauchbare Präparate. Beim Imprägnieren ließen sich Lufteinschlüsse im Wurzelgewebe nicht ganz vermeiden. Wenn Phasenkontrast verwendet wird, ist weißes Licht günstiger als monochromatisches. Als Färbemittel hat sich GIEMSA-Lösung bewährt, die Reaktion wird auf dem unbedeckten Dünnschliff durchgeführt. Lebende konnten nicht immer von abgestorbenen Wurzeln unterschieden werden, was aber — wie die Diskussion zeigte — grundsätzlich möglich sein sollte. Die geschilderte Technik gestattet ist, die Situation der Wurzeln im Boden weitgehend kennenzulernen     

Änderungen im Wirkungsgrad der Photosynthese als Basis erhöhter Produktivität

Am Beispiel von Phaseolus vulgaris var. nanus L. wird gezeigt, wie die einzelnen ökologischen Parameter den photosynthetischen Prozeß der Energiekonversion und Speicherung beeinflussen. Einzig eine kontinuierliche Erhöhung der Temperatur bewirkt einen simultanen Anstieg der Nettophotosynthese sowie des CO₂- und des Lichtwirkungsgrades der Photosynthese. Wegen des vergleichsweise niederen Temperaturoptimums von C3-Pflanzen bleiben die Nettophotosyntheseraten gering und ihr Wirkungsgrad bei Starklicht ist schlecht, obwohl C3-Pflanzen grundsätzlich mit einem höheren Wirkungsgrad arbeiten könnten als C4-Pflanzen. Soll das Gesamtenergieangebot an Licht und Temperatur durch C3-Pflanzen besser genutzt werden können, muß das Temperaturoptimum angehoben werden. Dies geschieht am besten durch eine Erhöhung der CO₂-Konzentration. Wie nun die ökologischen Parameter Licht, CO₂ und Temperatur in den verschiedenen Kombinationsmöglichkeiten auf die Effizienz der Photosynthese einwirken, wurde an Hand einer durch Meßwerte kontrollierten Modellvorstellung erarbeitet. Mit dieser Methode läßt sich auch die phorosynthetische Nutzung einer Erhöhung der Lichtintensität oder CO₂-Konzentration bestimmen. So sollen hohe CO₂-Konzentrationen immer nur bei hohen Lichtintensitäten und hohen Temperaturen (? 35 C) geboten werden. Die erhöhte CO₂-Tension muß daher immer gut auf das aktuelle Gesamtenergieniveau abgestimmt werden: Bei 35 C sollten CO₂-Konzentration (Y) und Lichtintensitär (X) der Funktion y = 1,5+60 angepaßt sein. Für Phaseolus ließe sich unter Glas durch entsprechende Manipulation der Kulturbedingungen die in trockenen Bohnen zu speichernde Sonnenenergie von 0.17 % auf 0,32 % der Globalstrahlung erhöhen. Dies bedeutet einen möglichen Ertragsgewinn von fast 100 %. Leider kann dieser Erfolg die an sich stark negative Energiebilanz der gärtnerischen und landwirtschaftlichen Kulturen nur geringfügig verbessern, da die Änderung der Kulturbedingungen im Glashaus relativ hohe zusätzliche Energieinvestitionen nach sich zieht und in vom Energieaufwand her günstigeren Freilandkulturen eine Erhöhung der CO₂-Konzentration nur schwer verwirklichbar ist.     

Siebengebirge – im Saum der Großlandschaften. Die Exkursion

The Siebengebirge Mountains, facing Bonn and situated between the Lower Rhine Bight and the well known Middle Rhine valley, cover an area of only some 4800 ha, but represent a fairly unusual complex with respect to landscape and nature. Already some famous exploring travellors of the 18th century such as Georg Forster, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and Alexander von Humboldt consistently emphasized the striking diversity and natural beauty of this area. No other part of Germany has hitherto been dealt with by a comparable array of special (geologically as well as biologically centered) investigations and compiling contributions. An excursion proposal recommends a closer inspection of that fascinating landscape.     

Seevögel im Südpolarmeer

Seabirds face a number of challenges in Antarctic and Subantarctic breeding areas, such as variations in food supply and changes in the ecosystem due to climate change, aggregation and competition from the limited number of suitable breeding areas, and inaccessible breeding areas due to changes in precipitation. Adjustments to irregular food supplies, such as flexible incubation and nesting times, and torpor in chicks can help seabirds keep pace with changes occurring due to climate change. Data loggers are used to better understand the responses of adult birds to changes in the ecosystem and the resulting population trends. Various data loggers are used for a variety of applications, from one gram light loggers for long‐term tracking across large scales to high‐resolution GPS loggers with acquisition of acceleration data that can also be used to model energy expenditure. In order to fully understand the movement ecology of seabirds, several approaches need to be considered: ecological segregation in space, time and choice of food, energy landscapes and the non‐lethal effects of predation (landscapes of fear).
