Helminth communities in sympatric black turnstones (Arenaria melanocephala), ruddy turnstones (Arenaria interpres), and dunlin (Calidris alpina) were examined over 4 summers in Bristol Bay, Alaska. The compound community, made up of component communities of all 3 species of hosts for 4 summer seasons (n=164), consisted of 43 helminth species, with cestodes, especially Anomotaenia clavigera, accounting for 47% of the helminth species and 95% of the abundance. The black turnstone had significantly higher species richness and abundance than either the ruddy turnstone or dunlin. The congeneric black and ruddy turnstone component communities were the most similar, and the dunlin's was the least similar. New helminth species continued to be acquired in all 3 host species during years 2 to 4. There was no significant difference for abundance among sample years for each of the 3 species of host. The 3 component communities all included a predictable suite of helminths with 1 dominant species and 4 to 5 associates, a large number of less-predictable species, and a greater prevalence and abundance of cestode species. Consistencies over time included high diversity, low evenness, low species richness (<5), and continued recruitment of small numbers of helminth species with low prevalence and abundance. There was minimal circulation of helminth species between the dunlin and the 2 turnstone species, indicating a considerable degree of specialization, particularly among species of cestodes.  相似文献

DNA barcoding was used in the identification of 89 commercially important freshwater and marine fish species found in Turkish ichthyofauna. A total of 1765 DNA barcodes using a 654‐bp‐long fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene were generated for 89 commercially important freshwater and marine fish species found in Turkish ichthyofauna. These species belong to 70 genera, 40 families and 19 orders from class Actinopterygii, and all were associated with a distinct DNA barcode. Nine and 12 of the COI barcode clusters represent the first species records submitted to the BOLD and GenBank databases, respectively. All COI barcodes (except sequences of first species records) were matched with reference sequences of expected species, according to morphological identification. Average nucleotide frequencies of the data set were calculated as T = 29.7%, C = 28.2%, A = 23.6% and G = 18.6%. Average pairwise genetic distance among individuals were estimated as 0.32%, 9.62%, 17,90% and 22.40% for conspecific, congeneric, confamilial and within order, respectively. Kimura 2‐parameter genetic distance values were found to increase with taxonomic level. For most of the species analysed in our data set, there is a barcoding gap, and an overlap in the barcoding gap exists for only two genera. Neighbour‐joining trees were drawn based on DNA barcodes and all the specimens clustered in agreement with their taxonomic classification at species level. Results of this study supported DNA barcoding as an efficient molecular tool for a better monitoring, conservation and management of fisheries.  相似文献

Human population is exposed to numerous parasitic ichthyozoonoses. Although Tamaulipas state (northeastern Mexico) is well known for its fishing and aquaculture industry, there are few reports of this type of zoonosis. Therefore, it is imperative to investigate whether the parasites that affect these fish may represent a zoonotic risk for the inhabitants of the area.The objective of this study was to identify molecular and/or morphologically muscle parasites of fish from coastal locations in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and assess the risk of infection for humans. Between 2017 and 2018, 764 individual fish belonging to 28 species were examined for parasites. Collected worms were processed for their identification using morphological characteristics. In addition, partial sequences of the large subunit (28S) ribosomal RNA gene were obtained from some species to corroborate their identity. Prevalence and mean intensity of all registered infections were calculated. A total of seven species of parasites were found: cestodes (Poecilancistrium caryophyllum), trematodes (Clinostomum tataxumui, Clinostomum cichlidorum), nematodes (Eustrongylides sp., Contracaecum sp.) and pentastomids (Sebekia purdieae, Sebekia sp.). Parasites infected 10 species belonging to different fish families (Ariidae, Centrarchidae, Centropomidae, Cichlidae, Eleotridae, Ictaluridae, Mugilidae and Sciaenidae). Congeneric species of parasites or related to those registered in this study have been identified as zoonotic agents in other regions of the world. Despite the low levels of infection (2.6–16.6% prevalence and 1–5.5 parasites per infected host), there is a latent risk of transmission to humans, so it is recommended to avoid eating raw or undercooked fish meat.  相似文献

Length-weight relationship was estimated for three fish species, including: Lethrinus microdon (Valenciennes, 1,830), Sphyraena jello (Cuvier, 1829) and Euthynnus affinis (Cantor, 1849). Specimens were sampled between May 2014 and June 2015 from the fish caught by the local artisanal fishery and landed in main fishing landing site of Mocka city. Values of b for fish ranged from 2.644 for S. jello to 2.706 for E. affinis and 3.187 for L. microdon. The determination coefficient (r2) between total length and total body weight ranged from .952 in E. affinis to 0.957 in S. jello and 0.960 in L. microdon.  相似文献

中国第1座大型核电站位于广东省大亚湾西侧,第1期工程于1994年初并网发电,第2期工程于2003年5月正式投产,总装机容量为4000MW,经冷却系统排人大亚湾的热废水达200m^3/s。核电站温排水的生态热效应问题引起人们普遍关注。针对这一问题进行了大亚湾海区斑节对虾(Penaeus monodon)和近缘新对虾(Metapenaeus affinis)两种重要经济虾类的高温热效应试验研究,测试了多项重要温度指标基准值。结果表明,斑节对虾和近缘新对虾的适宜生长温度范围均为29~35℃,最适生长温度(OGT)均为33℃;在不同的驯化温度下,斑节对虾和近缘新对虾的起始致死温度(ILT50)分别为37.5~38.1℃和38.9~39.3℃;最高起始致死温度(UILT50)分别为38.1℃和39.3℃;临界热最大值(CTM)分别为42.72~43.60℃和41.58~43.90℃;生长的最高周平均温度(MWAT)分别为34.7℃和35.1℃;短期暴露最高温度(MTSTE)分别为37.12和37.89℃;在不同驯化温度下,斑节对虾主动趋向选择的最适温度为26.4~32.5℃,近缘新对虾为30.7~33.1℃;起始致死温度、临界热最大值和选择的最适温度等与驯化温度呈正相关关系。随着驯化温度提高,其数值也增大,并逐渐趋向某一恒定的温度值。根据斑节对虾和近缘新对虾的热效应研究结果,结合这两种虾类的生态习性和大亚湾核电站温排水温度场的卫星遥感监测资料,探讨了大亚湾核电站温排水对2种虾类资源的热效应问题。研究结果显示,核电站温排水形成的温度场绝大部分的温升不超过4℃,温度场水域的温度变化基本上都低于这2种对虾的生存安全温度。处于它们的最适生长温度范围内,温排水对大亚湾海区的斑节对虾和近缘新对虾资源热影响甚微。  相似文献

Fishery‐independent sampling was used to determine growth patterns, life span, mortality rates and timing of maturation and sex change in 12 common parrotfishes (Labridae: tribe Scarinae) from five genera (Calotomus, Cetoscarus, Chlorurus, Hipposcarus and Scarus) in Micronesia. Interspecific variation in life‐history traits was explored using multivariate analysis. All species displayed strong sex‐specific patterns of length‐at‐age among which males reached larger asymptotic lengths. There was a high level of correlation among life‐history traits across species. Relationships between length‐based and age‐based variables were weakest, with a tenuous link between maximum body size and life span. Cluster analysis based on similarities among life‐history traits demonstrated that species were significantly grouped at two major levels. The first grouping was driven by length‐based variables (lengths at maturity and sex change and maximum length) and separated the small‐ and large‐bodied species. Within these, species were grouped by age‐based variables (age at maturity, mortality and life span). Groupings based on demographic and life‐history features were independent of phylogenetic relationships at the given taxonomic level. The results reiterate that body size is an important characteristic differentiating species, but interspecific variation in age‐based traits complicates its use as a life‐history proxy. Detailed life‐history metrics should facilitate future quantitative assessments of vulnerability to overexploitation in multispecies fisheries.  相似文献

The genome size (C value) of eight commercially important fish species in China was measured using flow cytometry. Chicken (Gallus domesticus) erythrocytes were used as reference cells. When using propidium iodide (PI) as the fluorescent dye, genome sizes were 1.09?±?0.08, 2.75?±?0.12, 1.05?±?0.05, 1.35?±?0.11, 0.99?±?0.05, 0.90?±?0.08, 0.90?±?0.07, and 0.88?±?0.07?pg for Japanese eel (Anguilla japonica), mullet (Myxocyprinus asiaticus), yellowcheek carp (Elopichthys bambusa), blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala), yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco), ricefield eel (Monopterus albus), mandarin fish (Siniperca chuatsi), and snakehead (Ophicephalus argus), respectively. However, genome sizes were 1.25?±?0.00, 3.08?±?0.02, 1.25?±?0.00, 1.57?±?0.01, 0.96?±?0.01, 1.00?±?0.01, 0.91?±?0.01, and 0.89?±?0.01?pg for these fishes, respectively, when 4??, 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) was used as the fluorescent dye. Regardless of the dye used, the more evolutionarily advanced species had a smaller genome size than those with a lower evolutionary status. For each species, we also measured the size of erythrocytes and their nucleus and evaluated the relationships between erythrocyte size, nucleus size, chromosome number, and genome size. Genome size was positively correlated with erythrocyte nucleus size and chromosome number when using PI as the fluorescent dye, but it was only correlated with erythrocyte nucleus size when DAPI was used.  相似文献

Size selectivity of the 40 mm nominal polyethylene (PE) square mesh codend and the 44 mm nominal polyamide (PA) diamond mesh codend were determined under commercial conditions in the demersal trawl fishery. Data were collected using the covered codend technique and analyzed by logistic equation with a maximum likelihood method. Changing the mesh from a 44 mm PA diamond to a 40 mm PE square increased the mean retention lengths (L50s) of red mullet (Mullus barbatus), picarel (Spicara maena) and bogue (Boops boops) and decreased the selection ranges (SR) for common pandora (Pagellus erythrinus). For large‐eye dentex (Dentex macrophthalmus) and axillary sea bream (Pagellus acarne) mean L50 and SR values were 9.6 and 11.8, and 2.4 and 2.4 cm, respectively, only in the DM44PA codend. For golden banded goatfish (Upeneus moluccensis) values for SM40PE were only 15.0 and 2.7 cm, respectively. Results showed that the 40 mm PE square mesh codend provided higher selectivity for most of the Mediterranean fishes. The results also showed that regulating mesh size and requiring square mesh openings during trawling is essential for the release of immature individuals. This practice will result in a reduction in overfishing and permit recovery of overfished stocks.  相似文献

This study describes a multiplex PCR assay based on the 16S rRNA mitochondrial gene to identify the penaeid shrimp Farfantepenaeus aztecus, Farfantepenaeus duorarum, Farfantepenaeus brasiliensis and Litopenaeus setiferus, all native to the Gulf of Mexico, and the exotic Litopenaeus vannamei. The assay was validated using positively identified adult shrimp and confirmed by direct sequencing. Samples of postlarvae and early juveniles collected in the eastern and western Gulf of Mexico were tested yielding 119 F. aztecus, 78 F. duorarum and five L. setiferus. Reliable identification of the morphologically similar early life stages of F. aztecus and F. duorarum has important implications for management and conservation. Similarly, the ability to identify L. vannamei is relevant as early detection could help minimize the ecological impact if this species escapes to the wild.  相似文献

Length–weight relationships were analysed for five commercially important freshwater fishes, namely, Bangana diplostoma (Heckel, 1838), Schizopyge niger (Heckel, 1838), Schizothorax curvifrons (Heckel, 1838), Schizothorax plagiostomus (Heckel, 1838) and Glyptosternon reticulatum (McClelland, 1842) from different water bodies in the Kashmir Valley, India. A total of 610 samples were collected between October 2013 and May 2015 using various indigenous cast nets. The cardinal tetra Paracheirodon axelrodi is a very popular aquarium fish and the most important ornamental fishery resource for riverine communities inhabiting the Rio Negro floodplain in central Amazonia. Here we describe the isolation and characterization of 14 microsatellite DNA loci for cardinal tetras. Number of alleles and heterozygosity per locus in a sample of 30 fish ranged from 2 to 22 and from 0.49 to 0.92, respectively. These markers provide powerful tools for studies on conservation and management of cardinal tetra resources and for investigating evolutionary processes underlying population diversification in Amazonian flooded forest fishes.  相似文献

Tuz Gölü (Salt Lake) Basin is one of the largest hypersaline lakes in the world and of extremely high biological importance owing to its high diversity and high level of endemism. It is hypothesized that the basin environment and the endemism of Pseudophoxinus crassus – a species of ray‐finned fish in the Cyprinidae family and found only in Turkey – might contribute to the host‐specific parasite characters. A total of 92 P. crassus specimens were collected by electrofishing between spring 2009 and autumn 2010 from the ?ncesu Stream in Konya Province, Turkey. By the end of the study period, four parasitic helminth species (Gyrodactylus latus, Asymphylodora imitans, Bothriocephalus acheilognathi and Pomphorhynchus laevis) were recorded. All had been reported previously from other hosts (non‐host specific). Among these parasites G. latus and A. imitans are new records for the helminth fauna of Turkey. Prevalence and infestation intensity, length classes, and sex compositions of infested populations, as well as the seasonality of infestation were obtained and the results compared with other studies.  相似文献

The effect of pollutants on the intensity of infection of metazoan parasites in the Mayan catfish, Ariopsis assimilis was investigated. Data were collected on pollutants and metazoan parasites from 76 catfish from five localities in Chetumal Bay in October, 1996. Nineteen pollutants (pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)) were found in the catfish livers. Heavy metal content was not determined. Nineteen metazoan parasite species were recovered. After controlling for fish length and sampling station, there was a significant negative linear relationship between the intensity of the larval digenean Mesostephanus appendiculatoides and 1,1,1,-trichloro-2,2-bis (4-chlorophenyl) ethane (DDT) concentrations. This negative relationship may be explained either by the effect of the pesticide on the mortality of (i) free-living larval forms, (ii) metacercariae in the fish, (iii) infected fish or (iv) intermediate host snails. There were significant differences between fish parasitized and not parasitized with M. appendiculatoides with respect to their DDT concentrations. There were also significant differences between the variances of the mean Clark's coefficient of condition values between catfish parasitized and not parasitized by M. appendiculatoides, with the variance of non-parasitized catfish being significantly larger. The results provided statistical evidence that DDT has a detrimental effect on M. appendiculatoides infection intensity. Furthermore, the significantly larger variance value of Clark's coefficient for non-parasitized fish suggested that DDT affects both the parasite and general host condition.  相似文献

The study evaluated the nutritional quality and investigated the heavy metals concentration in muscle tissues of five commercially important marine fish species, including brownspotted grouper (Epinephelus chlorostigma), squaretail coralgrouper (Plectropomus areolatus), black pomfret (Parastromateus niger), goldbanded jobfish (Pristipomoides multidens), and blueskin seabream (Polysteganus coeruleopunctatus) from the Red Sea, Jeddah Coast, Saudi Arabia. Significant differences (p < 0.05) were observed in the proximate chemical composition of fish muscles in these species. The highest protein content (17.66 ± 0.58%) was achieved in blueskin seabream while the lowest (15.28 ± 0.46%) was observed in brownspotted grouper. The highest lipid content (2.97 ± 0.45%) was recorded in squaretail coralgrouper while the lowest (1.52 ± 0.26%) was observed in blueskin seabream. Heavy metal concentrations varied significantly within and between fish species under study (p < 0.05). Significant differences in the concentration of heavy metals among fish species were recorded. Results revealed that the bioaccumulation of Cr, Fe, Ni, and Cd in muscles of fish species under study was higher than the standard concentration, but that of Mn, Cu, and Pb were less than the standard concentration recommended in the EU, FAO, and WHO guidelines. In conclusion, these fish species represent a high-quality food source but is unsafe due to the level of certain minerals in their tissues. Results also indicated that the Red Sea environment is contaminated with heavy metals, which was reflected in the tissues of fishes used in this study.  相似文献

In order to determine temporal and spatial distribution patterns of Callinectes sapidus, samplings were carried out during the cold-front (January-February), dry (May-June) and rainy (August-September, 2002) climatic seasons, in 30 sampling stations of Chetumal Bay, grouped in sectors A (14 stations), B (eight stations) and C (eight stations). In each sampling station crabs were collected from two transects parallel to the coast, each with three traps, separated by 30 m. Sediments were calcareous coarse and medium sand, white or lightly gray. A total of 1 031 specimens were collected. CPEU (Capture Per Effort Unit) differed spatially and temporally. Highest CPEU was found in sector C with 1.3 ind.trap(-1), and in the rainy season with 1.1 ind.trap(-1). Population was predominantly composed of male individuals. The male:female ratio was 15:1. Males and adults (group II) CPEU was significant different between sectors and climatic seasons. Both males and adults (group II) had a greater CPEU in sector C (1.2 ind.trap-) and in the rainy season (1.1 ind.trap(-1)). Abundance of female and juvenile individuals (group I) was low during the sampling period whereas group 0 juvenile individuals were not found. A greater relative frequency between sectors and climatic seasons were observed in 130-139 mm and 140-149 mm size interval (CW). C. sapidus occurred on sandy sediments in Chetumal Bay. Pearson product moment correlations exhibited significant relationships between CPEU and temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen. In Chetumal Bay, the spatial and temporal distribution of C. sapidus can be related to salinity, temperature, habitat quality, food availability, recruitment and reproduction events of individuals.  相似文献

The amount of tannins present inAcacia berlandierii, A. farnesiana, A. greggii andA. rigidula, 4 common species of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, was determined. Bark samples of the 4 species were extracted with water, 80% methanol, and 70% acetone. Of these, 70% acetone proved to be the most efficient solvent. Tannins were determined by Folin-Denis analysis for total phenolic materials, followed by precipitation with casein or hide powder. The hidepowder method was modified to facilitate handling of smaller samples. Results of tannin determination by casein and hide-powder precipitation methods gave comparable results. The amount of tannins present in leaves, bark, wood, and immature fruits of samples of these species was then determined by the same analytical methods. In most instances, bark and immature fruits had the highest percentage of tannins (5–15%) and wood was much lower (less than 1%). Leaves had intermediate values.  相似文献

Parameters of the length-weight relationship (LWR) were estimated for four fish species [Beaufortia szechuanensis (Fang, 1930), Claea dabryi (Sauvage, 1874), Percocypris pingi (Tchang, 1930), and Yunnanilus sichuanensis Ding, 1995] from the Yalong River. Samples were collected seasonally from June 2018 to July 2019, using various fishing gears [set nets (mesh: 1.5 × 2.0 cm), hook, drift gill nets (three mesh sizes: 1.0; 2.0; 3.0 cm) and electro fishing]. A total of 6 helminth species were recorded during helminthological examination of 50 Chapalichthys encaustus from Lake Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. Helminth species identified included: Salsuginus sp. (an undescribed monogenea); Posthodiplostomum minimum (metacercariae); Cyclustera ralli (metacestode); Polymorphus brevis (cystacanth); Contracaecum sp. (nematode larvae); and Rhabdochona lichtenfelsi (adult nematode). Of these, 2 (Salsuginus sp. and R. lichtenfelsi) are specialist species. The observed species richness, individual parasite abundance, and diversity were low. Data suggest that host specificity is an important factor contributing to observed community composition and richness. Host feeding habits and helminth species availability seem to determine the characteristics of these helminth assemblages.  相似文献

18S rRNA gene sequences are presented forAhnfeltia plicata, Chondrus crispus, Furcellaria lumbricalis andPalmaria palmata, commercially important marine algae of the North Atlantic. The sequences range from 1765 to 1777 nucleotides in length, with guanine + cytosine content of 50.1% to 52.4%. Sequence divergence between species in different orders was 11.3–12.3%, whereas the variation betweenC. crispus andF. lumbricalis, both from the Gigartinales, was only 3.6%. Based on limited experience with other groups of Rhodophyta, these sequences obtained from single populations are likely to be representative of the species as a whole, with little variation expected among conspecifics regardless of morphological aberration or apparent genetic isolation.NRCC 34824.  相似文献
