Terpenoids with cytotoxic activity from the branches and leaves of Pyrus pashia

Twenty terpenoids, including a new triterpenoid (1) and a new monoterpenoid (20), were isolated from the branches and leaves of Pyrus pashia. The structures of two new compounds were determined to be 2α, 3β, 27-trihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid (1) and (4α)-3-(5,5-dimethyltetrahydrofuranyl)-1-buten-3-ol 3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (20) on the basis of spectroscopic analysis (IR, HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR) and chemical method. Some of the isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against a panel of human cancer cell lines by MTT assay, using cisplatin as a positive control. Compound 14 exhibited cytotoxic activities against A549 (IC₅₀ = 19.18 ± 4.26 μM), Hela (IC₅₀ = 12.56 ± 3.89 μM), SGC7901 (IC₅₀ = 10.48 ± 1.95 μM) and NHI-1975 (IC₅₀ = 7.38 ± 2.31 μM) cell lines as well as compound 12 displayed cytotoxic activities against A549 (IC₅₀ = 14.71 ± 1.47 μM) and Hela (IC₅₀ = 12.22 ± 1.88 μM) cell lines.     

Biflavones from the genus Podocarpus

A new biflavonoid, podocarpusflavanone, has been isolated from Podocarpus taxifolia and identified by chemical and spectral data as I-4′,I-5,II-5-trihydroxy-II-4′,I-7,II-7-trimethoxy-I-2,3-dihydro-[I-3′,II-8]biflavone along with other biflavonoids. The distribution of biflavonyl pigments in eight Podocarpus species is outlined.     

Terpenoids from Microliabum polymnioides

The phytochemical study of M. polymnioides led to the isolation of two sesquiterpene lactones namely: 11alphaH-dihydrozaluzanin E and 1beta-hydroxy-4-oxo-11betaH-4-noreudesman-6,12-olide. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods. The relative stereochemistry was established by a combination of coupling constant analysis, NOESY correlations and molecular modeling. Three related known sesquiterpene lactones were also identified, and these data were used for chemotaxonomical purposes.

从肋果茶(Sladenia celastrifolia)95％乙醇提取物的乙酸乙酯部位中分离得到15个萜类化合物,经波谱学方法分别鉴定为sladeniafolin A(1),grasshopper ketone (2),(3S,5R,6S,7E,9R) -7-megastigmene-3,6,9-triol (3),hedytriol (4),(3S,5R,6R,7E,9R) -3,5,6,9-tetrahydroxy-7-megastigmene(5),1′S*,4′R*-8-(4′-hydroxy-2′,6′,6′-trimethylcyclohex-2-enyl)-6-methyloct-3E,5E,7E-trien -2-one (6),2α,3α,19α,23-tetrahydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid (7),2α,3β,19α,23-tetrahydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid(8),pomolic acid(9),3-O-acetyl pomolic acid(10),ursaldehyde (11),camarolide (12),3β-hydroxyurs-11-en-13β(28) -olide (13),3β-hydroxy -11α,12α-epoxy-urs-13β,28-olide (14)和28-0-β-D-glucopyranosyl euscaphic acid (15).以上化合物均首次从该植物中分离得到,其中1为新的C9裂环烯醚萜.

A series of known di- and triterpenoids were characterized in the whole plant of Wedelia buphthaimiflora.     

云前胡的萜类成分研究

从云前胡(Peucedanum rubricauleSheh et Shan)的乙醇提取物中首次分离并鉴定了4个萜类化合物,分别为sinodielides A(1)、B(2),积雪草酸(asiatic acid,3)和乌苏酸(ursolic acid,4)。     

Terpenoids from the liverwort Blepharostoma trichophyllum

Blepharostol, a new sesquiterpenoid alcohol with a rearranged drimane skeleton and five new ent-labdane diterpenoids, ent-labda-13(16),14-diene-8alpha-ol, ent-labda-13(16),14-diene-1beta,8alpha-diol, ent-labda-13(16),14-diene-8alpha,9beta-diol, ent-labda-13(16),14-diene-1beta,8alpha,9beta-triol and ent-8alpha,9beta-dihydroxylabda-13(16),14-dien-1-one, have been isolated from the liverwort Blepharostoma trichophyllum. Their structures have been assigned on the basis of their spectroscopic properties.     

Terpenoids from Cedrus deodara

A new novel type of phenolic sesquiterpene, himasecolone, has been isolated in addition to isopimaric acid from the chloroform-soluble fraction extract     

Terpenoids from Guarea guidonia

The volatile oil and the methanol extract from the leaves of Guarea guidonia, Meliaceae, were individually submitted to chromatographic separation. A sesquiterpene (2S*)-eudesma-5,7-dien-2-ol, together with six known ones, were isolated from the volatile oil. The methanolic extract afforded two known and two new triterpenes (23S*)-cycloart-24-ene-3 beta,23-diol and (23R*)-cycloart-24-ene-3 beta,23-diol, besides three known sesquiterpenes, one known diterpene and two steroids. Their structures were established on the basis of spectrocopic data, mainly by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopic analyses.     

Terpenoids from Achillea setacea

The aerial parts of Achillea setacea afforded, in addition of a rare monoterpene triol and 12 known sesquiterpene lactones, a new guaianolide containing an endoperoxide ring. Its structure was elucidated by spectral methods.     

Terpenoids from Tripterygium wilfordii

An abietane diterpenoid, triptobenzene Y and six sesquiterpene polyol esters, wilforsinines C-H, together with 14 known compounds, have been isolated from the roots of Tripterygium wilfordii. The structures of the compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses. The quinone reductase (QR) induction assay indicated that two compounds showed moderate QR-inducing activities at concentrations of 25 μM and 50 μM, respectively.     

Terpenoids from Dysoxylum densiflorum

Three degraded limonoids, dysodensiols A-C (1-3), and three sesquiterpenoids, dysodensiols D-F (4-6), along with 17 known compounds, were isolated from the twigs and leaves of Dysoxylum densiflorum. The structures of compounds 1-6 were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis.     

Terpenoids from Salvia palaestina

Six known terpenoids: vergatic acid, ursolic acid, crataegolic acid, lupane-3β-,11α, 20-triol, sclareol and sitosteryl 3β-glucoside were isolated from the leaves of Salvia palaestina and were identified by spectral data. Among the compounds, sclareol showed high activity against Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermis, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, while the triterpenoids were not tested due to solubility problems.     

Terpenoids from Guarea rhophalocarpa

Four new terpenes including, two sandaracopimaradiene diterpenoids, ent-8(14),15-sandaracopimaradiene-2alpha,18-diol, and ent8(14),15-sandaracopimaradiene-2beta,18-diol, and two lanostane triterpenoids, 23-hydroxy-5alpha-lanosta 7,9(11),24-triene-3-one, and 5alpha-lanosta-7,9(11),24-triene-3alpha,23-diol, were isolated from the methanolic extract prepared from the leaves of G. rhopalocarpa together with the known steroid stigmasterol and the coumarin, scopoletin. The isolates showed weak antiprotozoal activity against Leishmania donovani promastigotes, and Trypanosoma brucei brucei blood stream trypomastigotes, and were devoid of interesting activity towards Plasmodium falciparum. The isolates did not show significant cytotoxic activity against KB cells.
