A three-layer artificial neural network (ANN) was constructed to predict the removal efficiency of Lanaset Red (LR) G on Chara contraria based on 2304 experimental sets. The effects of operating variables (particle size, adsorbent dosage, pH regimes, dye concentration, and contact time) were studied to optimize the sorption conditions of this dye. The operating variables were used as the input to the constructed neural network to predict the dye uptake at any time as the output. This adsorbent was characterized by FTIR. Pseudo second-order model was also fitted to the experimental data. According to values of error analyses and determinations coefficient, the ANN was more appropriate to describe this adsorption process. Result of this model indicated that pH regimes had the highest importance effect (49%) on the dye uptake.  相似文献

An artificial neural network (ANN) model was used to predict removal efficiency of Lanaset Red (LR) G on walnut husk (WH). This adsorbent was characterized by FTIR-ATR. Effects of particle size, adsorbent dose, initial pH value, dye concentration, and contact time were investigated to optimize sorption process. Operating variables were used as the inputs to the constructed neural network to predict the dye uptake at any time as an output. Commonly used pseudo second-order model was fitted to the experimental data to compare with ANN model. According to error analyses and determination of coefficients, ANN was the more appropriate model to describe this sorption process. Results of ANN indicated that pH was the most efficient parameter (43%), followed by initial dye concentration (40%) for sorption of LR G on WH.  相似文献

Moringa oliferia seed pod was modified using orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4) and used as adsorbent for sequestering Rhodamine B (Rh-B) dye from aqueous solution. The acid-modified adsorbent (MOSPAC) was characterized using Scanning Electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), pH point of zero charge (pHpzc) and Boehm Titration (BT) techniques, respectively. Operational parameters such as contact time, initial dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, pH and solution temperature were studied in batch process. Optimum dye adsorption was observed at pH 3.01. Equilibrium adsorption data was tested data using four different isotherm models: Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich. Langmuir isotherm model fitted most with maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 1250 mg g–1. Pseudo-second-order kinetic model provided the best correlation for the experimental data. Thermodynamic study showed that the process is endothermic, spontaneous and feasible. MOSPAC is an effective adsorbent for the removal of RhB dye from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

In the present study, the parameters, temperature, adsorbent dose, contact time, adsorbent size, and agitation speed were optimized for Acid Blue 9 removal from aqueous medium by Hydrilla verticillata biomass using response surface methodology (RSM). The optimum conditions for maximum removal of Acid Blue 9 from an aqueous solution of 100 mg/L were as follows: temperature 30.63°C, adsorbent dose 2.88 g/L, contact time 180 min, adsorbent size 120 mesh (0.124 mm), and agitation speed 237.39 rpm. At these optimized conditions, batch adsorption experiments were conducted to study the effect of pH and initial dye concentration for the removal of Acid Blue 9 dye. The optimum initial pH and initial dye concentration values for Acid Blue 9 removal were found to be 3.0 and 100 mg/L, respectively. Kinetic and equilibrium studies were carried out for the experimental results. From the kinetic studies it was found that pseudo-second-order kinetics suits the system well. From the equilibrium studies, the Freundlich isotherm fits the data well.  相似文献

The preparation of activated carbon from apricot stone with H2SO4 activation and its ability to remove a basic dye, astrazon yellow 7GL, from aqueous solutions were reported in this study. The adsorbent was characterized by FTIR, BET and SEM, respectively. The effects of various experimental parameters, such as initial dye concentration, pH, adsorbent dosage and temperature were investigated in a batch-adsorption technique. The optimum conditions for removal of the basic dye were found to be pH 10, 6 g/l of adsorbent dosage and equilibrium time of 35 min, respectively. A comparison of three kinetic models, the pseudo first-order, second-order and diffusion controlled kinetic models, on the basic dye-adsorbent system showed that the removal rate was heavily dependent on diffusion controlled kinetic models. The adsorption isotherm data were fitted well to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption capacity was calculated as 221.23 mg/g at 50 °C. Thermodynamics parameters were also evaluated. The values of enthalpy and entropy were 49.87 kJ/mol and 31.93 J/mol K, respectively, indicating that this process was spontaneous and endothermic. The experimental studies were indicated that ASC had the potential to act as an alternative adsorbent to remove the basic dye from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Abstract

Adsorption of dyes onto natural materials like polysaccharides is considered a green chemistry approach for remediation of wastewater. In this work, the polysaccharide isolated from the corm of Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott or taro tuber (CEM) was utilized for removing methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution by batch adsorption method. The CEM adsorbent was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The solution pH and adsorbent dose have been found to have a significant positive correlation with the adsorptive removal efficiency of CEM for MB dye. The removal efficiency of CEM was found to be 72.35% under the optimum conditions; 20?mg/L initial concentration of dye, 120?mg of adsorbent dose, solution pH 8.5, 311.2?K temperature and 80?min contact time. The adsorption of MB onto CEM followed best the Freundlich isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetics. The adsorption was thermodynamically favorable and was endothermic in nature. The desorption/adsorption data justifiably indicated the reuse capability of CEM adsorbent for MB adsorption. Hence, CEM may be regarded as an eco-friendly and cost-effective natural adsorbent for MB dye removal from aqueous solution.  相似文献

Waste sugar beet pulp has been used as adsorbent for the removal of a hazardous cationic dye, Basic violet 16, from its aqueous solution. Adsorption of the dye was studied as function of time, pH of the solution, dosage of the adsorbent, sieve size of the particles, concentration of the dye, and temperature. The initial pH of the dye solution did not affect the chemistry of the dye molecule and the surface of beet pulp. Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms were successfully employed, and on the basis of these models, the thermodynamic parameters were evaluated. Adsorption of Basic violet 16 on beet pulp was found to be an exothermic reaction. Time contact studies showed that more than 80% adsorption of the dye is achieved in less than 1 h. Kinetics investigations confirmed both pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order behaviors; on the other hand, it shows that the intraparticle diffusion step is not the only rate-controlling step in all concentrations.  相似文献

Phytoremediation potential of the aquatic plant Spirodela polyrrhiza was examined for direct blue 129 (DB129) azo dye. The dye removal efficiency was optimized under the variable conditions of the operational parameters including removal time, initial dye concentration, pH, temperature and amount of plant. The study reflected the significantly enhanced dye removal efficiency of S. polyrrhiza by increasing the temperature, initial dye concentration and amount of plant. Intriguingly, artificial neural network (ANN) predicted the removal time as the most dominant parameter on DB129 removal efficiency. Furthermore, the effect of dye treatment on some physiologic indices of S. polyrrhiza including growth rate, photosynthetic pigments content, lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes were studied. The results revealed a reduction in photosynthetic pigments content and in multiplication of fronds after exposure to dye solution. In contrast, malondialdehyde content as well as catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD) activities significantly increased that was probably due to the ability of plant to overcome oxidative stress. As a result of DB129 biodegradation, a number of intermediate compounds were identified by gas chromatography–mass spectroscopy (GC–MS) analysis. Accordingly, the probable degradation pathway of DB129 in S. polyrrhiza was postulated.  相似文献

A study was conducted to examine the potential of jute processing waste (JPW) for the treatment of wastewater contaminated with dye and other organics generated from various activities associated with jute cultivation and fibre production. Adsorption studies in batch mode have been conducted using dye solution as an adsorbate and JPW as an adsorbent. A comparative adsorption study was made with standard adsorbents such as powdered and granular activated carbon (PAC and GAC, respectively). A maximum removal of 81.7% was obtained with methylene blue dye using JPW as compared to 61% using PAC and 40% using GAC under similar conditions. The adsorption potential of JPW was observed to be dependent on various parameters such as type of dye, initial dye concentration, pH and dosage of adsorbent. The batch sorption data conformed well to the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. However, lower BOD (33.3%) and COD (13.8%) removal from retting effluent was observed using JPW as compared to 75.6% BOD removal and 71.1% COD removal obtained with GAC.  相似文献

In the present study, the parameters, temperature, adsorbent dose, contact time, adsorbent size and agitation speed were optimized for Acid Blue 9 removal from aqueous medium by using response surface methodology (RSM). The optimum conditions for maximum removal of Acid Blue 9 from an aqueous solution of 100 mg/l were found as follows: temperature (33°C), adsorbent dose (3 g/l), contact time (225 min), adsorbent size (85 mesh (0.177 mm)) and agitation speed (226 rpm). At these optimized conditions, batch adsorption experiments were conducted to study the effect of pH and initial dye concentration for the removal Acid Blue 9 dye. Kinetic and equilibrium studies were carried out for the experimental results. From the kinetic studies it was found that pseudo second order model suits the system well. From the equilibrium studies, the Freundlich and Redlich-Peterson isotherm fit the data well.  相似文献

Adsorption kinetic and equilibrium of a basic dye (Astrazon Yellow 7GL) from aqueous solutions at various initial dye concentration (50-300 mg/l), pH (4-10), adsorbent dosage (2-8 g/l), particle size (354-846 microm) and temperature (30-50 degrees C) on wheat bran were studied in a batch mode operation. The result showed that the amount adsorbed of the dye increased with increasing initial dye concentration and contact time, whereas particle size and pH had no significant affect on the amount of dye adsorbed by the adsorbent. A comparison of kinetic models on the overall adsorption rate showed that dye/adsorbent system was best described by the pseudo second-order rate model. The removal rate was also dependent on both external mass transfer and intra-particle diffusion. The low value of the intraparticle diffusivity, 10(-11) cm2/s, indicated the significant influence of intraparticle diffusion on the kinetic control. The adsorption capacity (Q0) calculated from the Langmuir isotherm was 69.06 mg/g for at pH 5.6, 303 K for the particle size of 354 microm. The experimental data yielded excellent fits with Langmuir and Tempkin isotherm equations. Different thermodynamic parameters showed that the reaction was spontaneous and endothermic in nature.  相似文献

The main objective of the present study is to effectively utilize the de-oiled algal biomass (DAB) to minimize the waste streams from algal biofuel by using it as an adsorbent. Methylene blue (MB) was used as a sorbate for evaluating the potential of DAB as a biosorbent. The DAB was characterized by SEM, FTIR, pHPZC, particle size, pore volume and pore diameter to understand the biosorption mechanism. The equilibrium studies were carried out by variation in different parameters, i.e., pH (2–9), temperature (293.16–323.16 K), biosorbent dosage (1–10 g L−1), contact time (0–1,440 min), agitation speed (0–150 rpm) and dye concentration (25–2,500 mg L−1). MB removal was greater than 90% in both acidic and basic pH. The optimum result of MB removal was found at 5–7 g L−1 DAB concentration. DAB removes 86% dye in 5 minutes under static conditions and nearly 100% in 24 hours when agitated at 150 rpm. The highest adsorption capacity was found 139.11 mg g−1 at 2,000 mg L−1 initial MB concentration. The process attained equilibrium in 24 hours. It is an endothermic process whose spontaneity increases with temperature. MB biosorption by DAB follows pseudo-second order kinetics. Artificial neural network (ANN) model also validates the experimental dye removal efficiency (R2 = 0.97) corresponding with theoretically predicted values. Sensitivity analysis suggests that temperature and agitation speed affect the process most with 23.62% and 21.08% influence on MB biosorption, respectively. Dye adsorption capacity of DAB in fixed bed column was 107.57 mg g−1 in preliminary study while it went up to 139.11 mg g−1 in batch studies. The probable mechanism for biosorption in this study is chemisorptions via surface active charges in the initial phase followed by physical sorption by occupying pores of DAB.  相似文献

Dye removal from aqueous solution by adsorption on treated sawdust   总被引:20,自引:0,他引:20
Formaldehyde treated and sulphuric acid treated saw dusts were used to adsorb malachite green at varying dye concentration, adsorbent dose, pH and agitation time. Similar experiments were conducted with laboratory grade activated carbon to compare the results. The adsorption efficiency of sulphuric acid treated sawdust (SD) was higher than formaldehyde treated SD. The adsorption followed first order rate expression and Lagergren equation. An initial pH in the range of 6-9 was favorable for the dye removal by both the adsorbents. Dilute solutions were effectively decolorized by the adsorbents. It is proposed that in batch or stirred tank reactors, both adsorbents can be an attractive option for dye adsorption.  相似文献

Abstract

The present study aims at evaluating a batch scale biosorption potential of Moringa oleifera leaves (MOL) for the removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solutions. The MOL biomass was characterized by FTIR, SEM, EDX, and BET. The impact of initial concentrations of Pb (II), adsorbent dosage, pH, contact time, coexisting inorganic ions (Ca2+, Na+, K+, Mg2+, CO32?, HCO3?, Cl?), electrical conductivity (EC) and total dissolved salts (TDS) in water was investigated. The results revealed that maximum biosorption (45.83?mg/g) was achieved with adsorbent dosage 0.15?g/100?mL while highest removal (98.6%) was obtained at adsorbent biomass 1.0?g/100?mL and pH 6. The presence of coexisting inorganic ions in water showed a decline in Pb(II) removal (8.5% and 5%) depending on the concentrations of ions. The removal of Pb(II) by MOL decreased from 97% to 89% after five biosorption/desorption cycles with 0.3?M HCl solution. Freundlich model yielded a better fit for equilibrium data and the pseudo-second-order well described the kinetics of Pb(II) biosorption. FTIR spectra showed that –OH, C–H, –C–O, –C?=?O, and –O–C functional groups were involved in the biosorption of Pb(II). The change in Gibbs free energy (ΔG = ?28.10?kJ/mol) revealed that the biosorption process was favorable and thermodynamically driven. The results suggest MOL as a low cost, environment-friendly alternative biosorbent for the remediation of Pb(II) contaminated water.  相似文献

A recycling reactor system operated under sequential anoxic and oxic conditions was evaluated, in which the nutrients of piggery slurry were anaerobically and aerobically treated and then a portion of the effluent was recycled to the pigsty. The most dominant aerobic heterotrophs from the reactor were Alcaligenes faecalis (TSA-3), Brevundimonas diminuta (TSA-1) and Abiotrophia defectiva (TSA-2) in decreasing order, whereas lactic acid bacteria, LAB (MRS-1, etc.) were most dominantly observed in the anoxic tank. Here we have tried to model the nutrient removal process for each tank in the system based on population densities of heterotrophic and LAB. Principal component analysis (PCA) was first applied to delineate a relationship between input (microbial densities and treatment parameters such as population densities of heterotrophic and LAB, suspended solids (SS), COD, NH4 +–N, ortho-phosphorus, and total phosphorus) and output. Multi-layer neural networks using an error back-propagation learning algorithm were then employed to model the nutrient removal process for each tank. PCA filtration of microbial densities as input data was able to enhance generalization performance of the neural network, and this has led to a better prediction of the measured data. Neural networks independently trained for each treatment tank and the combined analysis of the subsequent tank data allowed a successful prediction of the treatment system for at least 2 days.  相似文献

Varying the parameters such as agitation time, dye concentration, adsorbent dose, pH and temperature carried out the potential feasibility of thermally activated coir pith carbon prepared from coconut husk for removal of methylene blue. Greater percentage of dye was removed with decrease in the initial concentration of dye and increase in amount of adsorbent used. Kinetic study showed that the adsorption of dye on coir pith carbon was a gradual process. Lagergren first-order, second-order, intra particle diffusion model and Bangham were used to fit the experimental data. Equilibrium isotherms were analysed by Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubnin-Radushkevich, and Tempkin isotherm. The adsorption capacity was found to be 5.87 mg/g by Langmuir isotherm for the particle size 250-500 microm. The equilibrium time was found to be 30 and 60 min for 10 and 20 mg/L and 100 min for 30, 40 mg/L dye concentrations, respectively. A maximum removal of 97% was obtained at natural pH 6.9 for an adsorbent dose of 100 mg/50 mL and 100% removal was obtained for an adsorbent dose of 600 mg/50 mL of 10 mg/L dye concentration. The pH effect and desorption studies suggest that chemisorption might be the major mode of the adsorption process. The change in entropy (DeltaS0) and heat of adsorption (DeltaH0) of coir pith carbon was estimated as 117.20 J/mol/K and 30.88 kJ/mol, respectively. The high negative value of change in Gibbs free energy indicates the feasible and spontaneous adsorption of methylene blue on coir pith carbon.  相似文献

Dye pollutants from research laboratories are one of the major sources for environmental contamination. In the present study, a nutraceutical industrial fennel seed spent (NIFSS) was explored as potential adsorbent for removal of ethidium bromide (EtBr) from aqueous solution. The adsorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Through batch experiments, the operating variables like initial dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, temperature, contact time, and pH were optimized. Equilibrium data were analyzed using three number of two-parameter and six number of three-parameter isotherm models. The adsorption kinetics was studied using pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order. The diffusion effects were studied by film diffusion, Webber–Morris, and Dumwald–Wagner diffusion models. The thermodynamic parameters; change in enthalpy (ΔHº), entropy (ΔSº), and Gibbs free energy (ΔGº) of adsorption system were also determined and evaluated.  相似文献

The main objective of this work was to investigate the biosorption performance of nonviable Penicillium YW 01 biomass for removal of Acid Black 172 metal-complex dye (AB) and Congo Red (CR) in solutions. Maximum biosorption capacities of 225.38 and 411.53 mg g−1 under initial dye concentration of 800 mg L−1, pH 3.0 and 40 °C conditions were observed for AB and CR, respectively. Biosorption data were successfully described with Langmuir isotherm and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The Weber-Morris model analysis indicated that intraparticle diffusion was the limiting step for biosorption of AB and CR onto biosorbent. Analysis based on the artificial neural network and genetic algorithms hybrid model indicated that initial dye concentration and temperature appeared to be the most influential parameters for biosorption process of AB and CR onto biosorbent, respectively. Characterization of the biosorbent and possible dye-biosorbent interaction were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy.  相似文献

In the present study, microwave treated Salvadora oleoides (MW-SO) has been investigated as a potential biosorbent for the removal of toxic methyl violet dye. A batch adsorption method was experimented for biosorptive removal of toxic methyl violet dye from the aqueous solution. The effect of various operating variables, viz., adsorbent dosage, pH, contact time and temperature on the removal of the dye was studied and it was found that nearly 99% removal of the dye was possible under optimum conditions. Kinetic study revealed that a pseudo-second-order mechanism was predominant and the overall process of the dye adsorption involved more than one step. Hence, in order to investigate the rate determining step, intra-particle diffusion model was applied. Adsorption equilibrium study was made by analyzing Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) adsorption isotherm models and the biosorption data was found to be best represented by the Langmuir model. The biosorption efficiency of MW-SO was also compared with unmodified material, Salvadora oleoides (SO). It was found that the sorption capacity (qmax) increased from 58.5 mg/g to 219.7 mg/g on MW treatment. Determination of thermodynamic parameters such as free energy change (ΔG°), enthalpy change (ΔH°) and entropy change (ΔS°) confirmed the spontaneous, endothermic and feasible nature of the adsorption process. The preparation of MW-SO did not require any additional chemical treatment and a high percentage removal of methyl violet dye was obtained in much lesser time. Thus, it is in agreement with the principles of green chemistry. The results of the present research work suggest that MW-SO can be used as an environmentally friendly and economical alternative biosorbent for the removal of methyl violet dye from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

The influence of natural clay's bentonite proportion on Pb2+ sorption capacity was investigated using response surface methodology (RSM), kinetics and equilibrium studies. Experiments were conducted at different initial pH (3–7), bentonite to clay ratio (0–100%), initial Pb2+ ions concentration (20–120 mg/L) and sorbent dosage (0.2–1 g). Under the RSM study, data obtained from 27 experiments undertaken were found to fitted second-order polynomial model (R2 = 0.998 and R2-predicted = 0.994). Analysis of variance showed that the Pb2+ sorption capacity was influenced according to the order; initial concentration> mass of adsorbent > initial pH > bentonite proportion. Optimal operating conditions were obtained at initial pH 5, 0.2 g sorbent dosage, 30% bentonite to clay ratio and 100 mg/L Pb2+ ion concentration. Regardless of the bentonite proportion, Pb2+ sorption kinetics followed pseudo-second-order associated with intra-particle diffusion. The sorption isotherm for the clay which was described by Freundlich yielded higher adsorption capacity (25 mg/g) while that of the bentonite was described by Langmuir model with lower maximum sorption capacity of 15 mg/g. These results suggest that sorption of the Pb2+ ions was not likely to significantly impact on the removal of Pb2+ ions during electrokinetic remediation process of clay having different proportion of bentonite.  相似文献
