Analysis of a sediment core taken from the Grangent reservoir in 2004 showed the presence of high concentrations of Microcystis aeruginosa Kütz. colonies at the sediment surface (250 colonies · mL sediment?1) and also at depths of 25–35 cm (2300 colonies·mL sediment?1) and 70 cm (600 colonies · mL sediment?1). Measurements of radioactive isotopes (7Be, 137Cs, and 241Am) along with photographic analysis of the core were used to date the deep layers: the layer located at ?30 cm dates from summer 2003, and that located at ?70 cm from 1990 to 1991. The physiological and morphological conditions of those benthic colonies were compared with those of planktonic colonies using several techniques (environmental scanning electron microscopy [ESEM], TEM, DNA markers, cellular esterases, and toxins). The ESEM observations showed that, as these colonies age, peripheral cells disappear, with no cells remaining in the mucilage of the deepest colonies (70 cm), an indication of the survival thresholds of these organisms. In the benthic phase, the physiological conditions (enzyme activity, cell division, and intracellular toxins) and ultrastructure (particularly the gas vesicles) of the cells surviving in the heart of the colony are comparable to those of the planktonic form, with all the potential needed for growth. Maintaining cellular integrity requires a process that can provide sufficient energy and is expressed in the reduced, but still existing, enzymatic activity that we measured, which is equivalent to a quiescent state.  相似文献

The development of both slide-grown and non-substrate bound colonies ofE. viridula (Thecata-Leptomedusae) ranging in size from 1 to 50 hydranths was investigated under various temperature conditions. The majority of slide-grown colonies reached a larger final size than non-substrate bound ones, in 20°, 25° and 29° C. Raising the temperature did not stimulate propagation of hydranths as expected. Most of the colonies transferred to 25° or 29° C finally were even smaller than those reared at 20° C. This was partially due to resorption of several hydranths about 9 days after the temperature rise; the influence of “physiological competition” between development of new hydranths and budding of medusae on colony growth is discussed. Transfer from higher to lower temperatures affected colony growth negatively. Raising the temperature from 20° to 25° or 29° C initiated formation of gonozooids from the distal part of hydranth stalks and development of medusa buds in both types of colonies. With the exception of slide-grown colonies transferred to 25° C, also young medusae were budded off. There was a remarkable coincidence in predominance of colony growth in slide-grown colonies and of medusa budding in non-substrate bound cultures. In the latter, medusa buds developed 1 to 2 days earlier. Most buds did not differentiate into liberated medusae, but were resorbed. Transformation of medusa buds into hydranths was not observed. In the clone ofE. viridula, onset of medusa budding did not depend on a “minimal colony size”. Even single hydranths were able to produce medusa buds after transfer to higher temperatures; budded off medusae were recorded from non-substrate bound colonies with an initial size of 3 hydranths. In slide-grown cultures, medusa buds developed into colonies with an initial size of only 3 hydranths. No hydranth propagation prior to medusa budding occurred in these cases. After raising temperature from 25° to 29° C medusa buds were observed in nonsubstrate bound colonies only; a small number of medusae were budded off from some of these colonies. Lowering the temperature from 29° or 25° to 20° C caused resorption of existing medusa buds. In several non-substrate bound colonies, transfer from 29° to 25° C induced development of gonozooids with medusa buds and, in some cases, of young medusae. Incubation with the alkylating cytostaticTrenimon and transfer from 20° to 25° C caused irreversible resorption of all hydranths when 4 × 10?2 mg/ml were administered for 10 mins. Thereafter, only development of stolonial structures was observed. With one exception, the colonies treated with 4 × 10?3 mg/ml, and all others submitted to 4 × 10?4 mgTrenimon/ml were able to produce new hydranths and also medusa buds; some of the colonies first had to overcome a degressive phase. Treatment with 4 × 10?2 mg destroyed all interstitial cells (I-cells). Incubation with 1 × 10?3 or 1 × 10?4 mg/ml left the I-cells at least partially intact. It is concluded that I-cells are indispensable for hydranth and medusan morphogenesis inE. viridula.  相似文献

Colony growth of Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) was studied on a cellophane membrane beneath which was passed a continuous supply of liquid medium. Colony development and differentiation occurred normally but hyphal extension rates and colony radial growth rates were reduced and branch formation was increased in comparison with colonies grown on the same medium solidified with agar. These changes are thought to result from continuous removal of staling compounds which would otherwise suppress branching at the colony margin. Glucose concentrations in the range of 0–1 g · l−1 had little effect on radial growth and branching except at a concentration of 1 g glucose · l−1, at which branching at the colony margin was suppressed. This concentration of glucose did not permit continued growth on solid medium.  相似文献

An experimental study was carried out to compare the performance of selected anaerobic high rate reactors operated simultaneously at 37?°C. The three reactors, namely upflow anaerobic sludge bed reactor (UASB), hybrid of UASB reactor and anaerobic filter (anaerobic hybrid reactor – AHR) and anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR), were inoculated with the anaerobic digested sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plant and tested with synthetic wastewater. This wastewater contained sodium acetate and glucose with balanced nutrients and trace elements (COD 6000?mg?·?l?1). Organic loading rate (B v ) was increased gradually from an initial 0.5?kg?·?m?3?·?d?1 to 15?kg?·?m?3?·?d?1 in all the reactors. From the comparison of the reactors' performance, the lowest biomass wash-out resulted from ABR. In the UASB, significant biomass wash-out was observed at the B v 6?kg?·?m?3?·?d?1, and in the AHR at the B v 12?kg?·?m?3?·?d?1. The demand of sodium bicarbonate for pH maintenance in ABR was two times higher as for UASB and AHR. The efficiency of COD removal was comparable for all three reactors – 80–90%. A faster biomass granulation was observed in the ABR than in the other two reactors. This fact is explained by the kinetic selection of filamentous bacteria of the Methanotrix sp. under a high (over 1.5?g?·?l?1) acetate concentration.  相似文献

The distribution of nitrate and nitrite in the interstitial water of the sediment of eelgrass (Zostera marina) bed of Izembek Lagoon, Alaska, were investigated. Their concentrations were relatively high (0 to 9.8 μg-at.N·1?1, average 4.8 for nitrate; 0 to 4.0 μ-at.N·1?1, average 1.9 for nitrite) although the sediments were anoxic and contained hydrogen sulphide. The rates of bacterial denitrification measured by 15N tracer technique ranged from 0.49×10?10 to 1.2 × 10?9 g-atN·g?1·h?1. When a steady state is maintained, the loss of nitrate and nitrite must be balanced by their production by bacterial nitrification. Experimentally determined rate of nitrification in the sediment was of the same order. A model experiment demonstrated that oxygen is transported from leaves to rhizomes and roots of eelgrass and released into the sediment. The oxygen is used for nitrification in the rhizosphere in anoxic sediments.  相似文献

Hierarchically organized colonies of five male Mus musculus of strain LACA/CFW were transferred to complex arenas of 1·3, 2·6, 3·8 or 5·2 m2. Mice in the 1·3 m2 areas subsequently had their living space increased by removal of a partition to 2·6, 3·8 or 5·2 m2. Changes in dominance occurred in eight out of thirteen of the colonies; the dominant mouse occupied the majority of the floor area, but some subordinates formed small territories. The number of territories held by subordinates was greater in the larger areas. In colonies in which the living area was expaded, however, there was no increase in the number of territories formed.  相似文献

Both colonies and free‐living cells of the terrestrial cyanobacterium, Nostoc flagelliforme (Berk. & Curtis) Bornet & Flahault, were cultured under aquatic conditions to develop the techniques for the cultivation and restoration of this endangered resource. The colonial filaments disintegrated with their sheaths ruptured in about 2 days without any desiccating treatments. Periodic desiccation played an important role in preventing the alga from decomposing, with greater delays to sheath rupture with a higher frequency of exposure to air. The bacterial numbers in the culture treated with seven periods of desiccation per day were about 50% less compared with the cultures without the desiccation treatment. When bacteria in the culture were controlled, the colonial filaments did not disintegrate and maintained the integrity of their sheath for about 20 days even without the desiccation treatments, indicating the importance of desiccation for N. flagelliforme to prevent them from being disintegrated by bacteria. On the other hand, when free‐living cells obtained from crushed colonial filaments were cultured in liquid medium, they developed into single filaments with sheaths, within which multiple filaments were formed later on as a colony. Such colonial filaments were developed at 15, 25, and 30° C at either 20 or 60 μmol photons·m?2·s?1; colonies did not develop at 180 μmol photons·m?2·s?1, though this light level resulted in the most rapid growth of the cells. Conditions of 60 μmol photons·m?2·s?1 and 25° C appeared to result in the best colonial development and faster growth of the sheath‐held colonies of N. flagelliforme when cultured indoor under aquatic conditions.  相似文献

Feeding experiments were carried out on the benthic harpacticoid copepod Tisbe cucumariae Humes, using seven different diets of various dried and ground macroalgae and marsh grass, algal Aufwuchs, diatoms, polychaete meat, and cereal. In short-term experiments (1 h), 14C-labelled foods were used to measure ingestion rate of non-ovigerous adult females (individual dry wt = 5.57 ± 2.49 μg). No significant difference was found among the rates at which all foods, except polychaete meat, were ingested (12.7 to 17.3 × 10?2μg dry wt· ind?1· h?1). Polychaete meat was consumed faster (23.9 × 10?2μg dry wt·ind ?1· h?1). The nutritional value of the foods was estimated in long-term experiments (22 days) by measuring development time and survival of T. cucumariae. Both these variables were significantly correlated with the nitrogen, protein content, and C:N ratio of the foods. No relation was found, however, with the amount of carbon, calories and available calories in the diets. Thus, nitrogen (protein) content of the food was the factor limiting secondary production of the copepods.  相似文献

Field and laboratory nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorus) enrichment experiments were performed using natural phytoplankton and microphytobenthic assemblages from the brackish water Öresund, S.W. Sweden. The response of algae from a low-nutrient area (Falsterbo Canal) was compared to that of algae from a polluted, nutrient-rich area (Lomma Bay). The biomass (measured as chlorophyll a) of both phytoplankton and microphytobenthos from the Falsterbo Canal increased after the addition of nitrogen. Phytoplankton growth was stimulated by the addition of phosphorus to the nitrogen-rich water of the polluted Lomma Bay. Sediment chlorophyll a showed no significant increase after the addition of nutrients in the Lomma Bay. In containers without sediment, phytoplankton uptake was calculated to account for ≈ 90% of the disappearance of inorganic fixed nitrogen from the water. In the sediment containers the microphytobenthos was estimated to account for ≈20% of the nitrogen uptake. The rest was presumably lost mainly through denitrification. When containers with microphytobenthos from Lomma Bay were kept in the dark, phosphorus was released at a rate of up to ≈ 180 μM · m?2 · day?1. We suggest that by producing oxygen microbenthic algae keep the sediment surface oxygenated thereby decreasing phosphorus transport from the sediment to the overlying water.  相似文献

Questions: What are the water economy strategies of the dominant subarctic bryophytes in terms of colony and shoot traits? Can colony water retention capacity be predicted from morphological traits of both colonies and separate shoots? Are suites of water retention traits consistently related to bryophyte habitat and phylogenetic position? Location: Abisko Research Station, North Sweden. Methods: We screened 22 abundant subarctic bryophyte species from diverse habitats for water economy traits of shoots and colonies, including desiccation rates, water content at field capacity, volume and density (mg cm?3) of water‐saturated and oven‐dried patches, evaporation rate (g·m?2·s?1) and cell wall thickness. The relationships between these traits and shoot and colony desiccation rates were analysed with Spearman rank correlations. Subsequent multivariate (cluster followed by PCA) analyses were based on turf density, turf and shoot desiccation rate, cell wall thickness and amount of external and internal water. Results: Individual shoot properties, i.e. leaf cell wall properties, water retention capacity and desiccation rate, did not correspond with colony water retention capacity. Colony desiccation rate depended on density of water‐saturated colonies, and was marginally significantly negatively correlated with species individual shoot desiccation rate but not related to any other shoot or colony trait. Multivariate analyses based on traits assumed to determine colony desiccation rate revealed six distinct species groups reflecting habitat choice and phylogenetic relationships. Conclusions: General relationships between shoot and colony traits as determinants of water economy will help to predict and upscale changes in hydrological function of bryophyte‐dominated peatlands undergoing climate‐induced shifts in species abundance, and feedbacks of such species shifts on permafrost insulation and carbon sequestration functions.  相似文献

Single cells of five different Microcystis species (M. ichthyoblabe, M. viridis, M. flos-aquae, M. wesenbergii, and M. aeruginosa) were batch-cultured at different temperatures and light intensities: (a) 25 °C and 50 μmol photons m?2 s?1 (control culture); (b) 25 °C and 10 μmol photons m?2 s?1; and (c) 15 °C and 50 μmol photons m?2 s?1. The extracellular polysaccharide content was significantly higher in treatments b and c than in the control treatment. All Microcystis species existed as single cells under the control treatment but formed colonies in treatments b and c. All of the colonies were irregular with indistinct margins. M. ichthyoblabe, M. viridis, M. flos-aquae, and M. wesenbergii formed colonies with similar morphologies and their cells were loosely aggregated. In contrast, M. aeruginosa formed denser colonies with no distinct holes. The colony morphologies differed from the classic morphology of M. ichthyoblabe field-grown colonies but resembled that of small colonies found in Lake Taihu (Yangtze Delta Plain, China) during early spring. This indicates that field- and laboratory-grown colonies are governed by similar formation processes. We suggest that in laboratory and field environments, M. ichthyoblabe (or M. flos-aquae) colonies are representative of small colonies formed from single Microcystis cells, whereas the morphology of older colonies evolves to resemble M. wesenbergii and M. aeruginosa colonies.  相似文献

The benthic recruitment of Microcystis was simulated in vitro in order to characterize the colonies of Microcystis recruited and to study the impact of intracellular and extracellular microcystins (MCs), and the influence of colony size on the recruitment process. We observed recruitment dynamics consisting of a lag phase followed by a peak and then a return to low recruitment rates, mainly controlled by passive resuspension throughout the experiment, and by physiological processes during the recruitment peak. Ninety‐seven percent of the Microcystis colonies recruited were <160 μm in maximum length, and their cells contained much greater amounts of MCs (0.26 ± 0.14 pg eq microcystin leucine‐arginine variant [MC‐LR] · cell?1) than those in benthic colonies (0.021 ± 0.004 pg eq MC‐LR · cell?1). The MC content of recruited Microcystis varied significantly over time and was not related to changes in the proportion of potentially toxic genotypes, determined using real‐time PCR. On the other hand, the changes in MC content in the potentially toxic Microcystis recruited were closely and negatively correlated with recruitment dynamics; the lowest MC contents corresponded to high recruitment rates, and the highest MC contents corresponded to low recruitment rates. Thus, depending on temperature and light conditions, these variations are thought to result from the selection of various subpopulations from among the smallest and the most toxic of the initial benthic population. Adding purified MC‐LR to experimental treatments led to a decreased recruitment of Microcystis and more specifically of mcyB genotypes.  相似文献

The effects of trace elements on ammonium degradation performance and extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) secretion of Acinetobacter harbinensis HITLi7T at low temperature were investigated. Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to obtain the optimal composition of trace elements and analyze their correlation. In this study, the results indicated that the ammonium removal performance could be enhanced by the presence of 0.1 mg L?1 Fe, Mn, or B in pure cultivation. When the concentrations of Fe and Mn were 0.2 mg L?1, the ammonium removal rates of the novel strain HITLi7T were 0.49 ± 0.01 mg L?1·h?1 and 0.58 ± 0.01 mg L?1·h?1, respectively, while it was the low concentration of 0.05 mg L?1 B that showed the maximum ammonium removal rate (0.56 ± 0.02 mg L?1·h?1) of strain HITLi7T. The regression model was obtained and the optimal formulation of trace elements was: B 0.064 mg L?1, Fe 0.12 mg L?1, and Mn 0.1 mg L?1. Based on these values, the experimental ammonium removal rate could reach 0.59 mg L?1·h?1, which matched well with the predicted response. The study also found that the addition of trace elements, causing high ammonium removal rates, resulted in a high polysaccharide (PS) ratio in the EPS secreted by Acinetobacter harbinensis HITLi7T. Especially under the optimal conditions, the PS ratio reached the highest value of 49.9%.  相似文献

The crucial role of seabirds in the enrichment of nutrient-poor polar terrestrial ecosystem is well-known. However, no studies have examined the potentially different impacts associated with piscivorous and planktivorous bird colonies on the surrounding tundra soils. Therefore, we compared guano deposition and physical and chemical parameters of soil near two large seabird colonies, one of planktivorous little auks (Alle alle) and the other comprising piscivorous Brunnich’s guillemots (Uria lomvia) and kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla). The two colonies generated similar levels of guano deposition, with the intensity of deposition decreasing away from the colony. Guano deposition adjacent to both colonies was considerably higher than that in control areas. The increased guano supply around colonies significantly enhanced soil conductivity, nitrogen (NO3 ?, NH4 +), potassium (K+), and phosphate (PO4 3?) ion concentrations and led to reduced pH values. Guano deposition explained 84 % (piscivorous colony) and 67 % (planktivorous colony) of the total variation in the tested soil parameters. Planktivore and piscivore colonies affected adjacent tundra in different ways. The phosphate content and pH value of soil influenced by piscivores were significantly higher than values measured in planktivore-influenced soil. The gradient of guano deposition and associated ion content in the soil decreased more rapidly with distance from the piscivore colony. Climate-induced changes in populations of planktivorous and piscivorous seabirds are expected in the study region and may therefore have substantial consequential effects on Arctic terrestrial ecosystems.  相似文献

Human growth hormone binding sites from female rabbit kidney microsomes were solubilized by treatment with the nonionic detergent Triton X-100. The binding of 125I-labelled human growth hormone to the solubilized sites retains many of the properties observed in the particulate fraction, such as saturability, reversibility, high affinity and structural specificity. The association and the dissociation process are time- and temperature-dependent. The association rate constant, k1, is 1.6·107 mol?1·l·min?1 at 25°C, and the dissociation rate constant, k?1, is 2.8·10?4 min?1 at 25°C. Solubilization causes an increase in affinity as well as in binding capacity. Scatchard plots from saturation curves suggest the presence of a single class of binding site with a dissociation equilibrium constant, Kd, of 1.3·10?11 M and a binding capacity of 133 fmol/mg of protein. Similar results were obtained from competition experiments. Specificity studies revealed the lactogenic characteristics of the solubilized sites. The Stokes radii of the free binding sites and of the 125I-labelled human growth hormone-binding site complex, determined on a Sepharose CL-6B column, are 57 and 53 Å, respectively.  相似文献

The UTEX 2193 strain of Scenedesmus armatus (Chod.) Chod, when cultured in any of several media (whether natural or artificial, concentrated or dilute) produced a variety of colonial morphologies as well as a unicell population. Morphological expression was related to culture ape. When the initial cell density was just a feu1 hundred cells per mL. the culture first produced a unicell population, then spiny colonies, and as stationary phase was approached, spine-less colonies. Two classes of spiny colonies were detected. Type I colonies had elongate cells with the terminal cells shorter than median cells. Spines were longer than cell length. The wider, oval, grainy cells of Type II colonies were uniform m length. Spines were shorter and thicker than those on Type I colonies. Only Type I colonies produced unicells: the latter appeared as two morphs. The smaller unicell was obovoid with four delicate spines: the larger had ovate cells bearing four thicker spines. Control of unicell development in all media was achieved by carefully monitoring colony type and cell number used for the inoculum. A unicellular population developed in batch culture in defined media, both concentrated and dilute, when the initial cell density (either Type I or Type II colonies) was low (below 1000 cells-mL?1), as well as in synchronous cultures. With higher initial cell densities, e.g. 2 × 104 cells·mL?1, the inoculum had to contain Type I colonies to produce unicells. Unicells were also produced in water from Agronomy Pond, where the strain originated. We discuss the role of unicell populations in the distribution of Scenedesmus.  相似文献

Uptake of glycine and release of primary amines by the polychaete Nereis virens (Sars) and the mud snail Hydrobia neglecta Muus was investigated. In a flow system, Nereis virens had a net influx of glycine of 32 to 39 nmol·g?1 fresh wt·h from a 5-μM solution of glycine. Simultaneously, an efflux of primary amines of 14 nmol·g?1·h?1 was measured. The experiments indicated that glycine uptake and release of primary amines are two independent processes. Glycine was absorved by Hydrobia neglecta from 50-μM solutions at an influx of 175 nmol·g?1 organic wt·h?1, and simultaneously, there was an independent efflux of 25 nmol primary amine·g?1·h?1. In the experiments, released primary amines from both species increased the ambient concentration of primary amines, but after various periods of time these concentrations apparently stabilized. Finally, the significance of micro-organisms in amino-acid uptake experiments is considered.  相似文献

In a long-term (40–55 wk) microcosm experiment, the presence of the polychaete Capitella capitata (Type I) Fabricius reduced population densities and trophic transfer efficiencies (detritivore production per amount of detritus supplied) of the nematode Diplolaimella chitwoodi Gerlach at high (150 mg N · m?2 · day?1) detritus ration and of the harpacticoid copepod Tisbe holothuriae Humes at low (50 mg N · m?2 · day?1) detritus supply. The rarer nematodes Theristus ostentator Wieser & Hopper and Paracyatholaimus pesavis Wieser & Hopper fed at depth on fungal hyphae attached to polychaete fecal pellets thereby minimizing contact with the other metazoa. In a series of short-term (4-day) growth experiments, the presence of either Diplolaimella chitwoodi or Tisbe holothuriae reduced daily weight-specific growth (g increase · g worm?1 · day?1) of Capitella capitata on separate diets of mixed cereal and red seaweed, Gracilaria foliifera (Harvey) Taylor, detritus. Both sets of experiments suggest that Capitella capitata competes for food with Diplolaimella chitwoodi and Tisbe holothuriae. Meiofauna-polychaete interactions were dependent, in part, upon the degree of similarity among species in food requirements and habitat preferences, and may incorporate a variety of regulatory mechanisms other than competition or predation.  相似文献

Photosynthesis-irradiance relationships were determined in the field for five species of littoral and shallow sublittoral marine benthic green algae (Chlorophyta) of differing morphologies. Each species exhibited a linear increase in photosynthetic rate with increasing irradiance up to a maximum light-saturated value. Full sunlight (1405 to 1956 μE·m?2·s?1) inhibited photosynthesis of all species except the thick, optically dense, Codium fragile (Sur.) Har. Compensation irradiances ranged from 6.1 μE·m?2·s?1 for Enteromorpha intestinalis (L.) Link to 11.4 μE·m?2·s?1 for Ulva lobata (Kütz) S. & G. and did not reveal a consistent relationship to seaweed morphology. Saturation irradiances were determined statistically (Ik) and visually from graphical plots. with the latter technique resulting in values three to eight times higher and different comparative rankings of species than the former. Ik saturation irradiances were highest for Chaetomorpha linum (Müll.) Kütz. (81.9 μE·m?2·s?1) and lowest for Codium fragile (49.6 μE·m?2·s?1) and did not reveal a relationship with seaweed morphology. Regression equations describing light-limited photosynthetic rates and the relative magnitudes of the maximal net photosynthetic responses both strongly suggested a relationship with seaweed morphology. Highest net photosynthetic rates were obtained for the thin, sheet-like algae Ulva lobata (9.2 mg C·g dry wt?1·h?1), U. rigida C. Ag. (6.5 mg C·g dry wt?1·h?1) and the tubular form, Enteromorpha intestinalis (7.3 mg C·g dry wt?1·h?1), while lowest rates occurred for Codium fragile (0.9 mg C·g dry wt?1·h?1). Similarly, steepest light-limited slopes were found for the algae of simpler morphology, while the most gradual slope was determined for Codium fragile, the alga with greatest thallus complexity.  相似文献

Ammonia oxidation plays a pivotal role in the cycling and removal of nitrogen in aquatic sediments. Certain bacterial groups and a novel group of archaea, which is affiliated with the novel phylum Thaumarchaeota, can perform this initial nitrification step. We examined the diversity and abundance of ammonia-oxidizing β-Proteobacteria (β-AOB) and ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) in the sediments of Chongming eastern tidal flat using the ammonia monooxygenase-α subunit (amoA) gene as functional markers. Clone library analysis showed that AOA had a higher diversity of amoA gene than β-AOB. The β-Proteobacterial amoA community composition correlated significantly with water soluble salts in the sediments, whereas the archaeal amoA community composition was correlated more with nitrate concentrations. Quantitative PCR (qPCR) results indicated that the abundance of β-AOB amoA gene (9.11?×?104–6.47?×?105?copies?g?1 sediment) was always greater than that of AOA amoA gene (7.98?×?103–3.51?×?105?copies?g?1 sediment) in all the samples analyzed in this study. The β-Proteobacterial amoA gene abundance was closely related to organic carbon, while no significant correlations were observed between archaeal amoA gene abundance and the environmental factors. Potential nitrification rates were significantly greater in summer than in winter and correlated strongly with the abundance of amoA genes. Additionally, a greater contribution of single amoA gene to potential nitrification occurred in summer (1.03–5.39 pmol?N?copy?1?day?1) compared with winter (0.16–0.38 pmol?N?copy?1?day?1), suggesting a higher activity of ammonia-oxidizing prokaryotes in warm seasons.  相似文献
