Large fruited spotted gum eucalypt Corymbia henryi occurs sympatrically with small fruited spotted gum Corymbia citriodora subspecies variegata over a large portion of its range on the east coast of Australia. The two taxa are interfertile, have overlapping flowering times and share a common set of insect and vertebrate pollinators. Previous genetic analysis of both taxa from two geographically remote sites suggested that the two were morphotypes rather than genetically distinct species. In this study we further explore this hypothesis of genic species by expanding sampling broadly through their sympatric locations and examine local-scale spatial genetic structure in stands that differ in species and age composition. Delineation of populations at five microsatellite loci, using an individual-based approach and Bayesian modelling, as well as clustering of individuals based on allele frequencies showed the two species to be molecularly homogeneous. Genetic structure aligned largely with geographic areas of origin, and followed an isolation-by-distance model, where proximal populations were generally less differentiated than more distant ones. At the stand level, spotted gums also generally showed little structure consistent with the high levels of gene flow inferred across the species range. Disturbances in the uniformity of structuring were detected, however, and attributed to localised events giving rise to even aged stands, probably due to regeneration from a few individuals following fire.  相似文献

Background and Aims

Corymbia species from different sections hybridize readily, with some of increasing economic importance to plantation forestry. This study explores the locations of reproductive barriers between interspecific Corymbia hybrids and investigates the reproductive success of a wide taxonomic range of C. torelliana hybrid crosses.

Methods

Pollen, pistil and embryo development were investigated for four C. torelliana crosses (×C. torelliana, ×C. citriodora subsp. citriodora, ×C. tessellaris and ×C. intermedia) using fluorescent and standard microscopy to identify the locations of interspecific reproductive isolating barriers. Corymbia torelliana was also crossed with 16 taxa, representing six of the seven Corymbia sections, both Corymbia subgenera and one species each from the related genera, Angophora and Eucalyptus. All crosses were assessed for capsule and seed yields.

Key Results

Interspecific C. torelliana hybridization was controlled by pre-zygotic reproductive isolating barriers inhibiting pollen adhesion to the stigma, pollen germination, pollen tube growth in the style and pollen tube penetration of the micropyle. Corymbia torelliana (subgenus Blakella, sect. Torellianae) was successfully hybridized with Corymbia species from subgenus Blakella, particularly C. citriodora subsp. citriodora, C. citriodora subsp. variegata, C. henryi (sect. Maculatae) and C. tessellaris (sect. Abbreviatae), and subgenus Corymbia, particularly C. clarksoniana and C. erythrophloia (sect. Septentrionales). Attempted intergeneric hybrids between C. torelliana and either Angophora floribunda or Eucalyptus pellita were unsuccessful.

Conclusions

Corymbia hybrids were formed between species from different sections and subgenera, but not with species from the related genera Angophora or Eucalyptus. Reproductive isolation between the interspecific Corymbia hybrid crosses was controlled by early- and late-acting pre-zygotic isolating barriers, with reproductive success generally decreasing with increasing taxonomic distance between parent species. These findings support the monophyly of Corymbia and the close relationships of infrageneric clades. The hybridizing propensity of Corymbia species provides opportunities for breeding but suggests risks of environmental gene flow.  相似文献

Traditionally viewed as an Andean grain crop,Chenopodium quinoa Willd. includes domesticated populations that are not Andean, and Andean populations that are not domesticated. Comparative analysis of leaf morphology and allozyme frequencies have demonstrated that Andean populations, both domesticated(quinua) and free-living(ajara), represent an exceptionally homogeneous unit that is well differentiated from allied domesticates of coastal Chile(quingua) and freeliving populations of the Argentine lowlands(C. hircinum). This pattern of relationships indicates that Andean populations represent a monophyletic crop/weed system that has possibly developed through cyclic differentiation (natural vs. human selection) and introgressive hybridization. Relative levels of variation suggest that this complex originated in the southern Andes, possibly from wild types allied withC. hircinum, with subsequent dispersal north to Colombia and south to the Chilean coast. Coastal populations were apparently isolated from post-dispersal differentiation and homogenization that occurred in the Andes. Other data point toward a center of origin in the northern Andes with secondary centers of genetic diversity subsequently developing in the southern Andes and the plains of Argentina. Comparative linkage of South American taxa, all tetraploid, with North American tetraploids of the subsection will eventually clarify this problem. While the possibility of a direct phyletic connection betweenC. quinoa and the Mexican domesticate(C. berlandieri subsp. nuttalliae,) cannot be excluded, available evidence indicates that the latter represents an autonomous lineage that is associated with the basal tetraploid, C. b. subsp.berlandieri, through var.sinuatum, whereas South American taxa show possible affinities to either var. zschackei or var.berlandieri. An extinct domesticate of eastern North America,C. b. subsp.jonesianum, represents either another instance of independent domestication, possibly from subsp. b. var.zschackei, or a northeastern outlier of subsp.nuttalliae.  相似文献

The fungal pathogen Quambalaria pitereka can cause significant damage to spotted gum (Corymbia sp.) plantations in Australia. A series of seven progeny trials, involving seed from a range-wide collection from 527 individuals within 25 native populations of Corymbia citriodora sub-species variegata, were assessed for height growth and damage from Quambalaria around 1 year after planting. Infection at this young age has been found to detrimentally impact growth, form, and wood quality for many years. Genetic variance was found to be significant at both the provenance and family level. However, selection of families within provenances should lead to greater levels of genetic gain than what can be realized from selecting among provenances as estimates of additive genetic variance were consistently greater than estimates of variance among populations. Strong relationships between height and Quambalaria shoot blight (QSB) damage assessments in these trials were evidenced by very high genetic correlations between the traits; therefore, selection for any of these traits could be used to identify more productive and QSB-tolerant populations. While both provenances and families were found to interact with the trial environments at a similar level across traits, genetic correlations indicated that rankings for growth were be less stable than rankings for QSB tolerance across environments. Genetic parameter estimates derived from general and generalized linear models were very similar and either analytical method could be used to evaluate fungal damage.  相似文献

Corymbia variegata (spotted gum) is an important commercial hardwood timber species in Australia. Fourteen polymorphic microsatellite loci were isolated from C. variegata, with 3–5 alleles amplified in three individuals examined. Cross‐species amplification in Corymbia was successful for all primer pairs, while 10 loci (71%) were successfully transferred to at least one species in the closely related genus Eucalyptus.  相似文献

中国拥有丰富的野生百合种质资源,但有关百合属的系统发育与进化关系研究相对较少。该研究基于ITS、cpDNA(trnV-ndhC、petL-psbE)及单拷贝核基因AKT等3个基因片段,选取特有分布于西南地区的百合属6个近缘类群共48份样本及GenBank获得的数据,对百合属Leucolirion组进行了系统发育与种间关系研究。结果表明:(1)ITS结果支持前人的处理,即将Leucolirion组细分为2个亚组,subsect.Leucolirion6a和subsect.Leucolirion6b。建议将湖北百合(L.henryi)和南川百合(L.rosthornii)归入到subsect.Leucolirion 6a,与泸定百合(L.sargentiae)、淡黄花百合(L.sulphureum)、宜昌百合(L.leucanthum)和岷江百合(L.regale)等4个种一起组成Leucolirion组;原本属于Archelirion组的野百合(L.brownii)与subsect.Leucolirion6b聚为一支,故将它与台湾百合(L.longiflorm)、麝香百合(L.formosanum)等组成一个新组,命名为百合组(sect.Lilium)。(2)组间关系上,Leucolirion组与百合组的系统发育关系较远,前者与分布于日本的Archelirion组形成姐妹类群,而后者与Sinomartagon组的亲缘关系更近。(3)基于叶绿体联合基因和单拷贝核基因AKT的6个近缘种的遗传距离显示,湖北百合与南川百合明显区别于Leucolirion组内拥有白色管状花的4个类群。叶绿体联合基因树和单拷贝核基因树结果表明,泸定百合、淡黄花百合、岷江百合和宜昌百合在遗传水平上表现出了极高的相似性,遗传关系十分相近,这可能与百合属植物特殊的繁育系统有关,影响了物种间遗传变异与分化。  相似文献

Taxonomic complexity may be associated with migration history and polyploidy. We used plastid and nuclear DNA markers to investigate the evolutionary history of the systematically challenging Dactylorhiza maculata polyploid complex. A total of 1833 individuals from 298 populations from throughout Europe were analysed. We found that gene flow was limited between the two major taxa, diploid ssp. fuchsii (including ssp. saccifera) and tetraploid ssp. maculata. A minimum of three autotetraploid lineages were discerned: (1) southern/western ssp. maculata; (2) northern/eastern ssp. maculata; and (3) Central European ssp. fuchsii. The two ssp. maculata lineages, which probably pre‐date the last glaciation, form a contact zone with high genetic diversity in central Scandinavia. Intermediate plastid haplotypes in the contact zone hint at recombination. Central Europe may have been a source area for the postglacial migration for the southern/western lineage of ssp. maculata, as well as for ssp. fuchsii. The northern/eastern lineage of ssp. maculata may have survived the LGM in central Russia west of the Urals. The tetraploid lineage of ssp. fuchsii is indistinguishable from diploid ssp. fuchsii, and is probably of postglacial origin. 头花杜鹃(Rhododendron capitatum)和陇蜀杜鹃(R. przewalskii)是极具观赏价值的野生花卉和药用植物。为探讨头花杜鹃和陇蜀杜鹃叶绿体基因组的遗传结构及进化特征,该研究利用 Illumina HiSeq 4000 平台对头花杜鹃和陇蜀杜鹃的叶绿体全基因组进行测序,经组装和注释后,结合 7 个已发表的杜鹃属植物叶绿体全基因组进行比较基因组学分析和系统发育分析。结果表明:(1)头花杜鹃和陇蜀杜鹃叶绿体全基因组呈典型的环状四分体结构,均由一个大单拷贝区(105 990、109 191 bp)、一个小单拷贝区(2 617、2 606 bp)和一对反向重复区(45 825、47 516 bp)构成,全长分别为200 257、206 829 bp。(2)头花杜鹃和陇蜀杜鹃叶绿体基因组中共鉴定出 263 个SSR位点,大部分 SSR 偏好使用 A/T 碱基,密码子偏好使用 A/U 结尾。(3)杜鹃属植物叶绿体全基因组中普遍存在基因丢失以及基因组重排等结构变异现象。该研究丰富了杜鹃属植物的基因组资源,为头花杜鹃、陇蜀杜鹃的资源开发、遗传进化、育种及系统发育相关研究提供了理论参考。  相似文献

Comparisons of complete chloroplast genome sequences of Hordeum vulgare, Sorghum bicolor and Agrostis stolonifera to six published grass chloroplast genomes reveal that gene content and order are similar but two microstructural changes have occurred. First, the expansion of the IR at the SSC/IRa boundary that duplicates a portion of the 5′ end of ndhH is restricted to the three genera of the subfamily Pooideae (Agrostis, Hordeum and Triticum). Second, a 6 bp deletion in ndhK is shared by Agrostis, Hordeum, Oryza and Triticum, and this event supports the sister relationship between the subfamilies Erhartoideae and Pooideae. Repeat analysis identified 19-37 direct and inverted repeats 30 bp or longer with a sequence identity of at least 90%. Seventeen of the 26 shared repeats are found in all the grass chloroplast genomes examined and are located in the same genes or intergenic spacer (IGS) regions. Examination of simple sequence repeats (SSRs) identified 16–21 potential polymorphic SSRs. Five IGS regions have 100% sequence identity among Zea mays, Saccharum officinarum and Sorghum bicolor, whereas no spacer regions were identical among Oryza sativa, Triticum aestivum, H. vulgare and A. stolonifera despite their close phylogenetic relationship. Alignment of EST sequences and DNA coding sequences identified six C–U conversions in both Sorghum bicolor and H. vulgare but only one in A. stolonifera. Phylogenetic trees based on DNA sequences of 61 protein-coding genes of 38 taxa using both maximum parsimony and likelihood methods provide moderate support for a sister relationship between the subfamilies Erhartoideae and Pooideae. Nectar in tall forest canopies is a significant, but unquantified resource for Australian fauna. We investigated the impact of logging on nectar production in the canopy of spotted gum Corymbia maculata in southern New South Wales. In addition, we quantified the magnitude of canopy nectar production and how this varied with climate over 2 years. In 2005 flowers were bagged on large and small trees in replicate recently logged, regrowth and mature forest. Neither logging history nor tree size significantly affected overnight nectar production per flower, although there was a significant interaction. When nectar production was scaled up to the forest stand (incorporating flower and tree density) mature forest produced almost 10 times as much sugar per ha as recently logged forest, with regrowth being intermediate. Under current forest practices at the compartment scale, the difference between mature forest and recently logged forest was reduced to a factor of two times. One distinctive characteristic of C. maculata nectar in 2005 was its high sugar content (40–60%) compared with the concentrations measured in 2003 (~18%). Nectar was only slightly depleted in unbagged flowers in 2005 when flowering was unusually extensive. We estimated that, on average, mature spotted gum forest produced a vast resource of nectar overnight: 35 000 Kj ha?1. Flowers measured in 2003 provided a strong contrast with only occasional stands of trees flowering, much less sugar per flower early in the morning and unmeasurable quantities by mid‐morning, indicating that nectar was limiting. Measurements at sites in 2003 indicated that regrowth sites could be more productive than mature forest; however, few sites were measured. We suggest that management should focus mitigations on poor flowering years when the nectar resource is limiting. Models of nectar production collated over both years, using climate and site variables, indicated nectar volumes and sugar concentration respond differently to environmental conditions. Predicting the nectar resource, which is made up of both components, was most consistently related to recent conditions that were unfavourable to foliage production.  相似文献

Tellima grandiflora, a herbaceous, diploid (2n = 14) perennial, is distributed from the peninsula and panhandle of Alaska to central California. Restriction site variation of chloroplast DNA was surveyed in 51 populations representing the geographic range of T. grandiflora using 20 endonucleases. Two well-differentiated clades of populations differing by 19 restriction site mutations and several length mutations are geographically structured. A northern group comprises populations from Alaska to central Oregon; populations from central Oregon to San Francisco, California, form a southern group. The southern lineage of the monotypic Tellima appears to have obtained its chloroplast genome via ancient hybridization with a species of Mitella. Although northern and southern lineages have well-differentiated chloroplast genomes, populations of T. grandiflora show a high degree of genetic similarity of nuclear-encoded allozymes; furthermore, no apparent morphological differences characterize the lineages. Significantly, several populations of T. grandiflora that possess the typical southern chloroplast genome also occur disjunctly on Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, and the Olympic Peninsula, Washington. Because both areas are proposed glacial refugia, we suggest that past glaciation may have created discontinuities in the geographic distribution of T. grandiflora. Following glaciation, migration of once-isolated populations possessing different chloroplast genomes resulted in the formation of a continuous geographic distribution with a major organellar discontinuity. Additional support for this hypothesis is provided by the presence of well-differentiated northern and southern chloroplast DNA lineages in Tolmiea menziesii, a species having a geographic distribution and life history traits similar to those of Tellima.  相似文献

The Dactylorhiza incarnata/maculata complex (Orchidaceae) was used as a model system to understand genetic differentiation processes in a naturally occurring polyploid complex with much of ongoing diversification and wide distribution in recently glaciated areas in northern Europe. Data were obtained for 12 hypervariable regions in the plastid DNA genome. A total of 166 haplotypes were found in a sample of 1099 plants. Allopolyploid taxa have inherited their plastid genomes from D. maculata s.l. Overall haplotype diversity of the combined group of allopolyploid taxa was comparable to that of maternal D. maculata s.l., but populations of allopolyploids were also more strongly differentiated from each other and contained lower numbers of haplotypes than populations of D. maculata s.l. In addition to haplotypes found in extant D. maculata s.l., the allopolyploids also contained several distinct and widespread haplotypes that were not found in any of the parental lineages. Some of these haplotypes were shared between widespread allopolyploids. Divergent allopolyploids with small distributions did not seem to originate from local polyploidization events, but rather as segregates of already existing allopolyploids. Genetic diversification of allopolyploid Dactylorhiza is the result of repeated polyploid formation, secondary hybridization and introgression between already existing polyploids and extant representatives of parental lineages, hybridization between independently derived polyploid lineages, and phyletic diversification in the group of allopolyploids. Although some polyploid taxa must have evolved after the last glaciation, genetic material from the parental lineages has been transferred continuously for longer periods of time. This combination of processes may explain the taxonomic complexity encountered in Dactylorhiza and other polyploid complexes distributed in previously glaciated parts of Europe.  相似文献

为探究桃儿七(Sinopodophyllum hexandrum)不同叶绿体基因组特征,本研究以桃儿七5个叶绿体基因组为研究对象,借助生物信息学工具进行基因组图谱构建、重复序列分析、密码子偏好分析、反向重复序列区(inverted repeat, IR)/单拷贝区(single-copy, SC)边界分析、基因组序列比较分析及系统发育分析。结果表明:桃儿七5个叶绿体基因组全长为157 203–157 940 bp,为典型的叶绿体四分体结构,共注释出133–137个基因,说明桃儿七叶绿体基因组具有多样性。桃儿七不同叶绿体基因组简单重复序列(simple sequence repeat, SSR)位点不同,单核苷酸A/T占主要优势,散在重复序列包括正向重复、回文重复和反向重复3类。密码子偏好分析显示有效密码子(effective number of codon,ENc)值为51.14–51.17,密码子偏好性弱,GC与GC3s所占比例小于50%,密码子偏向使用A和U碱基并且以A和U碱基结尾。桃儿七5个叶绿体基因组IR/SC边界和基因组序列均比较保守。系统发育分析结果表明桃儿七和北美桃儿七亲...  相似文献

The annual killifishes of the genus Cynolebias include one well supported clade composed of three taxa: Cynolebias adloffi, from Porto Alegre (southern Brazil), C. cf. adloffi and Cynolebias viarius, parapatrically distributed in southeastern Uruguay. Cynolebias cf. adloffi has always been considered an intergradation complex of populations between C. adloffi and C. viarius showing high levels of morphological variability and its systematic affinities have been historically discussed. This study clarified the patterns of genetic differentiation of C. cf. adloffi by means of RAPD markers to define its taxonomic status as a possible separated taxon. Multidimensional scaling analysis reveals that C. cf. adloffi is composed of two highly structured genetic groups (northern and southern) with discrete geographical distributions. The estimate of gene diversity for RAPD markers could suggest a scenario in which the rainy season flood pool populations across large distances could make intrapopulation variation high but interpopulation variation low. Phylogenetic analyses (UPGMA and parsimony) show different and unstable patterns of relationships among the taxa analyzed. In the UPGMA tree, C. viarius and C. cf. adloffi appear as sister taxa, while parsimony analysis does not support a unique hypothesis of relationship. Our analyses are in agreement with the hypothesis that C. cf. adloffi may well be a case of ancient hybrid ancestry followed by its divergence associated with Pleistocene and post-Pleistocene environmental changes in this region.  相似文献

We studied phylogenetic relationships among populations and species in the California closed-cone pines (Pinus radiata D. Don, P. attenuata Lemm., and P. muricata D. Don) via chloroplast DNA restriction site analysis. Data on genetic polymorphism within and among 19 populations in the three species were collected using9 to 20 restriction enzymes and 38 to 384 trees. Because only five clades and extremely low intraclade diversity were found, additional phylogenetic data were collected using a single representative per clade and two outgroup species, P. oocarpa Schiede and P. jeffreyi Loud. In total, 25 restriction enzymes were employed and approximately 2.7 kb surveyed (2.3% of genome). The five clades recognized were Monterey pine, knob-cone pine, and the southern, intermediate, and northern races of bishop pine. On the basis of bootstrapping, both Wagner and Dollo parsimony analyses strongly separated the northern and intermediate races of bishop pine from the southern race; knobcone pine from Monterey and bishop pines; and the closed-cone pines from the two outgroups. Approximate divergence times were estimated for the lineages leading to knob-cone pine and to the intermediate and northern populations of bishop pine. The position of Monterey pine relative to bishop pine within their monophyletic clade was unresolved. Surprisingly, Montery pine and the southern race of bishop pine were much more similar to one another than was the southern race of bishop pine to its conspecific intermediate and northern races. Both the Monterey and southern bishop pine lineages also evolved severalfold more slowly than did the knobcone pine and intermediate-northern bishop pine lineages. These results differ significantly from a recent allozyme study, corroborating previous observations that chloroplast genome phylogeny can depart substantially from that of nuclear genes.  相似文献

选取湖南大围山和八面山3处典型的香果树(Emmenopterys henryi)群落,通过分析香果树种群的重要值、物种多样性、年龄结构,绘制生命表和生存曲线图,并与其他不同地区3处香果树群落进行比较,探讨不同纬度、不同立地生境对香果树种群的年龄结构和演替动态的影响。结果表明:(1)大围山上游香果树群落的优势种群为多脉榆(Ulmus castaneifolia)、香果树和青钱柳(Cyclocaryapaliuru);大围山下游香果树群落的优势种群为黄檀(Dalbergia hupeana)、香果树和油茶(Camellia oleifera);八面山香果树群落的优势种群为野核桃(Juglans cathayensis)、香果树和小叶青冈(Cyclobalanopsis myrsinifolia)。(2)大围山上游香果树群落共有维管植物60科96属118种,大围山下游香果树群落共有维管植物76科120属163种,大围山上游和下游香果树群落地理成分均表现为温带成分高于热带成分;八面山香果树群落共有维管植物61科95属108种,地理成分表明热带成分高于温带成分。(3)根据年龄结构和生存分析,香果树种群在不同的群落中所处演替阶段不同,大围山上游为衰退型种群,大围山下游为稳定型种群,八面山为增长型种群,均具有代表性。(4)经分析对比,纬度位置、岩石裸露度、郁闭度、群落内优势种群的生长状况和人为破坏程度等是影响香果树种群生长趋势的因素,建议对大围山的2个香果树群落应加强后续监测,并参照八面山的香果树种群生存状况针对岩石裸露度、郁闭度等进行适当人工干扰和管理,以保障香果树种群的健康生长。  相似文献

An earthworm biodiversity survey of the Philippines has yielded 14 new species of the perichaetine megascolecid genus Pleionogaster, previously known from only a few species from scattered Philippine locations. Bicol, the southern peninsula of Luzon, has intact forests on several isolated volcanic peaks and other remote areas. Collections made in these forests yielded the following new species, here presented by type location: Mt. Malinao, Pleionogaster albayensis, P. bicolensis, P. castilloi, P. malinaoensis, P. tiwiensis; Mt. Isarog, P. ffitchae, P. isarogensis; Mt. Bulusan, P. bulusanensis, P. hongi, P. sorsogonensis; Catanduanes Island, P. nautsae, P. viracensis; Caramoan Peninsula, P. caramoanensis, P. nillosae. Most of the species were found only in the neighborhood of the type locality, but P. bicolensis occurs in two locations in northern Bicol. Intraspecific variation in P. castilloi was observed between northern and southern flanks of Mt. Malinao. Over the last few years multiple studies have been published outlining chloroplast genomes that represent many of the photosynthetic euglenid genera. However, these genomes were scattered throughout the euglenophyceaean phylogenetic tree, and focused on comparisons with Euglena gracilis. Here, we present a study exclusively on taxa within the Euglenaceae. Six new chloroplast genomes were characterized, those of Cryptoglena skujai, E. gracilis var. bacillaris, Euglena viridis, Euglenaria anabaena, Monomorphina parapyrum, and Trachelomonas volvocina, and added to six previously published chloroplast genomes to determine if trends existed within the family. With this study: at least one genome has now been characterized for each genus, the genomes of different strains from two taxa were characterized to explore intraspecific variability, and a second taxon has been characterized for the genus Monomorphina to examine intrageneric variability. Overall results showed a large amount of variability among the genomes, though a few trends could be identified both within Euglenaceae and within Euglenophyta. In addition, the intraspecific analysis indicated that the similarity of a genome sequence between strains was taxon dependent, and the intrageneric analysis indicated that the majority of the evolutionary changes within the Euglenaceae occurred intergenerically.  相似文献

地黄属是中国准特有属,属内种间关系仍待澄清。该研究基于多个个体的叶绿体与核基因片段对地黄属进行系统发育重建,探讨属内物种分化与可能历史。结果表明:(1)地黄属为单系群,天目地黄为本属原始类群,并与湖北地黄互为姐妹群或连续姐妹群,裂叶地黄-高地黄、地黄-茄叶地黄分别组成姐妹群;(2)多个个体构建的系统树更能揭示本属物种关系的复杂性;(3)祖先分布区重建表明本属经历过3次扩张与2次隔离过程,物种形成过程与历史气候变化密切相关。最后该研究提出了地黄属物种形成研究亟待解决的几个重要问题。  相似文献
