The ghost ant, Tapinoma melanocephalum (F.), is a household pest and a considerable nuisance. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the toxicity and control efficacy of boric acid in liquid bait against queen and worker ghost ants. The LT50 values for workers fed with 0.5%–2.5% boric acid and 2% chicken peptone in 20% sucrose water solutions were 4.3–2.4 days. The lethal times (LT50 = 5.2–7.6 days) for queen ghost ants fed with various concentrations of a boric acid solution depended on the feeding behavior of the queens. The high boric acid (4%) content solutions were not repellent to the ghost ant workers. The liquid bait formulation of 1% boric acid, which caused a 100% worker, brood, and queen population reduction in 4, 4, and 5 weeks, respectively, was significantly more effective than the solid bait formulation containing the same concentration (p  0.05). The simulation tests involved using chicken peptone and sucrose as the attractant, and colonies were provided an alternate food source (20% sucrose solution and dog food) to achieve a more accurate assessment of bait acceptability in screening for the efficacy of the liquid boric acid bait. The control efficiency attained 99.9% in week 4. The results demonstrated that liquid bait, containing 2% chicken peptone, 20% sucrose as a food attractant, and 1% boric acid as the toxin, is efficient and highly recommended for ghost ant control.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo attempt to confirm a previous report of superior effectiveness of using two thyroid hormones rather than one hormone to treat hypothyroidism.MethodsThis trial attempted to replicate prior findings, which suggested that substituting 12.5 μg of liothyronine (LT3) for 50 μg of levothyroxine (LT4) might improve mood, cognition, and physical symptoms in patients with primary hypothyroidism. Additionally, this trial aimed to extend the previous findings to fatigue and to assess for differential effects in subjects with low fatigue and high fatigue at baseline. A randomized, double-blind, two-period, crossover design was used. At an endocrinology and diabetes clinic, 30 adult subjects with primary hypothyroidism stabilized on LT4 were recruited. Patients randomly assigned to treatment sequence 1 received their standard LT4 dose in one capsule and placebo in another. Patients assigned to sequence 2 received their usual LT4 dose minus 50 μg in one capsule and 10 μg of LT3 in the other. At the end of the first 6 weeks, subjects were crossed over to receive the other treatment. Carryover and treatment effects were assessed by t tests.ResultsOf the 30 enrolled study subjects, 27 completed the trial. The mean LT4 dose was 121 ± 26 μg/day at baseline. No significant differences in fatigue and symptoms of depression were found between treatments. Measures of working memory were unchanged. During substitution treatment, the free thyroxine index was reduced by 0.7 (P < 0.001), total serum thyroxine was reduced by 3.0 μg/dL (P < 0.001), and total serum triiodothyronine was increased by 20.5 ng/dL (P = 0.004).ConclusionWith regard to the outcomes measured, substitution of LT3 at a 1:5 ratio for a portion of baseline LT4 yielded no better results than did treatment with the original dose of LT4 alone. Comprehensive studies to identify species-specific drivers of survival to environmental stress, reproduction, growth, and recruitment are vital to gaining a better understanding of the main ecological factors shaping species habitat distribution and dispersal routes. The present study performed a field-based assessment of habitat distribution in the invasive carabid beetle Merizodus soledadinus for the Kerguelen archipelago. The results emphasised humid habitats as a key element of the insect’s realised niche. In addition, insects faced food and water stress during dispersal events. We evaluated quantitatively how water availability and trophic resources governed the spatial distribution of this invasive predatory insect at Îles Kerguelen. Food and water stress survival durations [in 100%, 70%, and 30% relative humidity (RH) conditions] and changes in a set of primary metabolic compounds (metabolomics) were determined. Adult M. soledadinus supplied with water ad libitum were highly tolerant to prolonged starvation (LT50 = 51.7 ± 6.2 d). However, food-deprived insect survival decreased rapidly in moderate (70% RH, LT50 = 30.37 ± 1.39 h) and low (30% RH, LT50 = 13.03 ± 0.48 h) RH conditions. Consistently, body water content decreased rapidly in insects exposed to 70% and 30% RH. Metabolic variation evidenced the effects of food deprivation in control insects (exposed to 100% RH), which exhibited a progressive decline of most glycolytic sugars and tricarboxylic acid cycle intermediates. Most metabolite levels were elevated levels during the first few hours of exposure to 30% and 70% RH. Augmented alanine and lactate levels suggested a shift to anaerobic metabolism. Simultaneously, peaks in threonine and glycolytic sugars pointed to metabolic disruption and a progressive physiological breakdown in dehydrating individuals. Overall, the results of our study indicate that the geographic distribution of M. soledadinus populations is highly dependent on habitat RH and water accessibility.  相似文献

Permethrin resistance status of a laboratory strain, a permethrin-selected strain and three field strains of Aedes aegypti collected in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were evaluated using three standard laboratory bioassays: WHO larval bioassay, WHO adult mosquito bioassay, and mixed function oxidase (MFO) enzyme microassay. The LC50 values of field strains from the WHO larval bioassay did not differ significantly. The highest LC50 value was from the Taman Melati field strain (0.39 mg/L). The resistance ratio for the permethrin-selected strain and the field strains ranged from 1.86 fold to 5.57 fold. Pre-exposure to piperonyl butoxide (PBO) in the WHO adult bioassay and MFOs enzyme microassay reduced the LT50 values and reduced the mean optical density of elevated oxidase activity (0.28–0.42) at 630 nm. The LC50 or LT50 values and the level of oxidases were significantly correlated (r = 0.825; p< 0.05). This study confirmed the presence of permethrin resistance in these mosquito populations.  相似文献

The role of honeybee mandibular gland compounds is poorly understood, although they may act as alarm pheromones. We measured forager and guard bee antennal responses evoked by two major components of mandibular gland secretions of the Asiatic honeybee, Apis cerana. Membrane potentials of antennal sensilla were measured after exposure to three concentrations of the synthetic alarm pheromones 2-heptanone and (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol using a potentiostat (EA161) connected to an e-corder (ED401) with microelectrodes. The resting membrane potential of A. cerana foragers and guards was ?55.23 ± 1.44 and ?56.41 ± 1.21 mV, respectively. The membrane potential of foragers after exposure to 1.0, 5.0 and 10.0% 2-heptanone was ?5.32 ± 0.46, ?8.41 ± 1.33 and ?11.53 ± 2.16 mV, respectively. The membrane potential of guards was ?5.49 ± 1.66, ?8.46 ± 1.32 and ?7.31 ± 3.46 mV, respectively. Exposure of foragers to 1.0, 5.0 and 10.0% (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol induced membrane potentials of ?24.00 ± 6.56, ?36.36 ± 5.18 and ?14.60 ± 8.20 mV, respectively; for guards they were ?47.62 ± 1.46, ?46.08 ± 0.87 and ?9.35 ± 1.96 mV, respectively. The highest membrane potential was found in foragers exposed to 1.0% 2-heptanone. The membrane potentials of foragers were higher than that of guards except at the highest concentration (10.0%) of both pheromones. These findings suggest that antennal sensory receptors of foragers may have higher specific thresholds than those of guards.  相似文献

A 60 day feeding trial was conducted to study the effect of dietary l-tryptophan on thermal tolerance and oxygen consumption rate of freshwater fish, mrigala, Cirrhinus mrigala reared under ambient temperature at low and high stocking density. Four hundred eighty fingerlings were distributed into eight experimental groups. Four groups each of low density group (10 fishes/75 L water) and higher density group (30 fishes/75 L water) were fed a diet containing 0, 0.68, 1.36 or 2.72% l-tryptophan in the diet, thus forming eight experimental groups namely, Low density control (LC) (basal feed +0% l-tryptophan); LT1 (basal feed+0.68% l-tryptophan); LT2 (basal feed+1.36% l-tryptophan); LT3 (basal feed+2.72% l-tryptophan); high density control (HC) (basal feed+0% l-tryptophan); HT1 (basal feed+0.68% l-tryptophan); HT2 (basal feed+1.36% l-tryptophan); and HT3 (basal feed+2.72% l-tryptophan) were fed at 3% of the body weight. The test diets having crude protein 34.33±0.23 to 35.81±0.18% and lipid 423.49±1.76 to 425.85±0.31 K Cal/100 g were prepared using purified ingredients. The possible role of dietary l-tryptophan on thermal tolerance and oxygen consumption rate was assessed in terms of critical thermal maxima (CTMax), critical thermal minima (CTMin), lethal thermal maxima (LTMax) and lethal thermal minima (LTMin). The CTMax, CTMin, LTMax and LTMin values were found to be significantly higher (p<0.05) in the treatment groups with CTMax 42.94±0.037 (LT2); LT Max 43.18±0.070 (LT2); CTMin 10.47±0.088 (LT2) and LTMin 9.42±0.062 (LT3), whereas the control group showed a lower tolerance level. The same trend was observed in the high density group (CTMax 42.09±0.066 (LT3); LTMax 43 23±0.067 (HT3); CTMin 10.98±0.040 (HT3) and LTMin 9.74±0.037 (HT3). However, gradual supplementation of dietary l-tryptophan in the diet significantly reduced the oxygen consumption rate in both the low density group (Y=−26.74x+222.4, r²=0.915) and the high density group (Y=−32.96x+296.5, r²=0.8923). Dietary supplementation of l-tryptophan at a level of 1.36% improved the thermal tolerance level and reduced the oxygen consumption rate in C. mrigala fingerlings.  相似文献

A series of cinnamic acid derivatives and its heteroaromatic ring analogues were synthesized and evaluated for acaricidal activity in vitro against Psoroptes cuniculi, a mange mite. Among them, eight compounds showed the higher activity with median lethal concentrations (LC50) of 0.36–1.07 mM (60.4–192.1 µg/mL) and great potential for the development of novel acaricidal agent. Compound 40 showed both the lowest LC50 value of 0.36 mM (60.4 µg/mL) and the smallest median lethal time (LT50) of 2.6 h at 4.5 mM, comparable with ivermectin [LC50 = 0.28 mM (247.4 µg/mL), LT50 = 8.9 h], an acaricidal drug standard. SAR analysis showed that the carbonyl group is crucial for the activity. The type and chain length of the alkoxy in the ester moiety and the steric hindrance near the ester group significantly influence the activity. The esters were more active than the corresponding thiol esters, amides, ketones or acids. Replacement of the phenyl group of cinnamic esters with α-pyridyl or α-furanyl significantly increase the activity. Thus, a series of cinnamic esters and its heteroaromatic ring analogues with excellent acaricidal activity emerged.  相似文献

Field-collected populations of mayflies, Ephemera orientalis were tested for susceptibility to 10 different insecticides using a direct-contact mortality bioassay. Ephemera orientalis subimagoes were susceptible to the insecticides chlorpyrifos, fenitrothion and chlorfenapyr with LD50 values of 69.7, 78.8 and 81.9 μg/♀, and adults had LD50 values of 71.9, 78.8 and 85.4 μg/♀, respectively. Susceptibility ratios (SRs) of subimagoes and adults of E. orientalis to the 10 insecticides were 1.0 to1.2 folds. The mayflies showed higher susceptibility to organophosphates than to pyrethroids. The SRs of Anopheles sinensis to E. orientalis were 514 to 1438 folds higher for organophosphates (LD50 values of 0.05 to 0.23 μg/♀) and 62 to 1155 folds higher for pyrethroids (LD50 values of 0.13 to 2.41 μg/♀). The SRs of Culex pipiens to E. orientalis were 606 to 3595 folds higher for organophosphates with LD50 values of 0.02–0.17 μg/♀ and 81 to 1365 folds higher for pyrethroids with LD50 values of 0.11–1.83 μg/♀. These results indicate that the use of ineffective insecticides will result in unsatisfactory control against field populations of the subimagoes and adults of E. orientalis.  相似文献

Wild pollinators may benefit Brassica oilseed production in temperate Australia, yet it is not known how the density of potential pollinators varies in these landscapes. In this study we assessed whether the density of feral honeybees, hoverflies (probably 2 species) and native bees (multiple species) in temperate Australian Brassica oilseed crops was related to the composition of the landscape. The density of pollinators was measured at multiple points in six different Brassica oilseed paddocks (20–80 ha) at least 1.75 km apart. Landscape composition at multiple scales (radii 100–2000 m) was determined from GIS layers of Brassica paddocks, woody vegetation and non-woody vegetation, and a derived layer expected to reflect the condition of woody vegetation remnants (the ‘Link’ score). Densities of feral honeybees were higher near the edges of Brassica fields than towards the middle. Densities of feral honeybees were strongly positively associated with the summed ‘Link’ score within 300 m and with the amount of woody vegetation. Densities of native bees and hoverflies were not strongly associated with woody vegetation or with woody vegetation with a high ‘Link’ score. Our results suggest that maximising feral honeybee abundance within paddocks in these landscapes may require smaller paddocks than those typically used, interspersed with habitat beneficial to feral honeybees such as woody vegetation in good condition.  相似文献

Heat acclimation over consecutive days has been shown to improve aerobic-based performance. Recently, it has been suggested that heat training can improve performance in a temperate environment. However, due to the multifactorial training demands of athletes, consecutive-day heat training may not be suitable. The current study aimed to investigate the effect of brief (8×30 min) intermittent (every 3–4 days) supplemental heat training on the second lactate threshold point (LT2) in temperate and hot conditions. 21 participants undertook eight intermittent-day mixed-intensity treadmill exercise training sessions in hot (30 °C; 50% relative humidity [RH]) or temperate (18 °C; 30% RH) conditions. A pre- and post-incremental exercise test occurred in temperate (18 °C; 30% RH) and hot conditions (30 °C; 50% RH) to determine the change in LT2. The heat training protocol did not improve LT2 in temperate (Effect Size [ES]±90 confidence interval=0.10±0.16) or hot (ES=0.26±0.26) conditions. The primary finding was that although the intervention group had a change greater than the SWC, no statistically significant improvements were observed following an intermittent eight day supplemental heat training protocol comparable to a control group training only in temperate conditions. This is likely due to the brief length of each heat training session and/or the long duration between each heat exposure.  相似文献

Out of some isolated Heterorhabditis bacteriophora from Korea, ecological study on two isolates which had different geographical features was investigated. That is, effects of temperature and dose on the pathogenicity and reproduction of two Korean isolates of H. bacteriophora were investigated using Galleria mellonella larvae in the laboratory. The median lethal dose (LD50) decreased with increasing temperature, but increased at 35 °C. The optimal temperatures for infection were 30 °C for H. bacteriophora Jeju strain and 24 °C for H. bacteriophora Hamyang strain. The median lethal time, LT50 of H. bacteriophora Hamyang strain was recorded at 13 °C to 35 °C and that of H. bacteriophora Jeju strain was recorded at 18 °C to 30 °C. The number of established nematodes in G. mellonella larvae was significantly different depending on temperature and dose. When G. mellonella larvae were exposed to 300 infective juveniles (IJs), mortality of G. mellonella gradually increased with exposure time with H. bacteriophora Jeju strain but not with H. bacteriophora Hamyang strain. 87.5% mortality of G. mellonella was recorded by H. bacteriophora Hamyang strain after 1440 min whereas 100% mortality was recorded by H. bacteriophora Jeju strain after 4320 min. The time from infection to the first emergence of nematodes decreased with increasing temperature. Duration of emergence of the two strains in the White traps also decreased with increasing temperature. The highest progeny numbers of H. bacteriophora Jeju strain were 264,602 while those of H. bacteriophora Hamyang strain were 275,744 at the rate of 160 IJs at 24 °C.  相似文献

Odor perception via the antennal sensilla in most honeybee species is poorly studied. We measured the antennal sensillum potential in response to Apis florea mandibular gland pheromone and showed that it is robust and reliable in forager and guard bees. Mandibular gland pheromone may be involved in signaling alarm or foraging resource depletion. Changes of antennal sensilla placodea potential of A. florea foragers and guards were measured after exposure to three concentrations of the synthetic pheromones, 2-heptanone and (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol, using a potentiostat connected to an e-corder (ED401) with microelectrodes. The resting sensillum potential of A. florea foragers and guards were ?55.37 ± 3.44 and ?52.85 ± 5.34 mV, respectively. The sensillum potential of bees exposed to 1.0%, 5.0% and 10.0% (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol were ?23.35 ± 0.98, ?16.78 ± 1.94 and ?24.24 ± 8.20 mV, respectively, in foragers, and ?21.95 ± 3.21, ?21.42 ± 4.73 and ?13.54 ± 4.16 mV, respectively, for guards. Exposure of bees to 1.0%, 5.0% and 10.0% 2-heptanone induced sensillum potentials of ?10.64 ± 2.44, ?44.88 ± 2.41 and ?48.84 ± 4.40 mV, respectively, in foragers and 15.85 ± 9.38, ?25.48 ± 1.43 and ?15.52 ± 6.61 mV, respectively, in guards. The highest sensillum potential was recorded in foragers exposed to 1.0% 2-heptanone. In general, except for the response to 1.0% 2-heptanone, the sensillum potentials of all bees to (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol were higher than that of 2-heptanone. These results show that A. florea antennal sensilla in foragers and guard bees exhibit a stronger response to (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol as compared to 2-heptanone. Our results also provide useful comparative data to explore olfactory perception in non-model honey bee species.  相似文献

Tetranychus urticae populations were collected from ten commercial apple orchards and their susceptibilities to 12 acaricides were tested using a leaf disc bioassay. The resistance of each T. urticae population was reported as the LC50 value, the resistance ratio (RR) and the slope of the probit–concentration regression. Cross resistances of T. urticae populations were estimated using the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Most local populations showed low resistance levels (RR  10). Development of resistance to METI and pyrethroid acaricides differed among local populations. The highest RR value (154.6) was found in the Uiseong population to tebufenpyrad. The Geochang population was highly resistant, especially to METI and pyrethroid acaricides. T. urticae populations collected from Suwon, Chungju, Yeongju and Geochang showed moderate resistance (10 < RR  40) to more than two acaricides. Resistance ratios to abamectin, chlorfenapyr, fenbutatin-oxide and milbemectin were low (RR  10) in all populations. The LC50 values of abamectin, chlorfenapyr, fenbutatin-oxide and milbemectin ranged from 0.06 to 0.2 mg/l, from 0.67 to 3.38 mg/l, from 10.12 to 40.85 mg/l and from 0.47 to 3.01 mg/l, respectively. We discuss possible cross-resistance to acaricides using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient.  相似文献

Termites adjust their response to entomopathogenic fungi according to the profile of fungal volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This study demonstrates the pathogenicity of Metarhizium anisopliae, Beauveria bassiana and Isaria fumosorosea (=Paecilomyces fumosoroseus) towards the Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae). Using no-choice assays, M. anisopliae was found to be highly virulent (LT50 3.10 d) when compared to B. bassiana (LT50 6.62 d) and I. fumosorosea (LT50 12.39 d). Also using choice assays, the foraging behavior of C. formosanus was determined in the presence of pathogenic fungi. The highly pathogenic fungi (M. anisopliae) elicited a repellent response, causing most of the termites to forage in a safe zone farthest from the fungal source. This repellency resulted in relatively low mortality similar to the controls. The repellency of M. anisopliae conidia can be used to protect human belongings and timber from termites. While I. fumosorosea cultures were not repellent to C. formosanus workers, the termites were highly susceptible to infection. Electroantennographic responses of workers showed approximately 47% and 78% lower level of response to conidia of B. bassiana and I. fumosorosea, respectively, as compared to M. anisopliae. The VOC profile of repellent cultures of M. anisopliae mainly consisted of paraffins (60.97%), while the major proportion of the I. fumosorosea profile consisted of branched and cyclic alkanes (84.41%). From the above findings, we conclude that the incorporation of I. fumosorosea may increase the control potential of bait.  相似文献

Nosema ceranae and Nosema apis are microsporidia which play an important role in the epidemiology of honeybee microsporidiosis worldwide. Nosemiasis reduces honeybee population size and causes significant losses in honey production. To the best of our knowledge, limited information is available about the prevalence of nosemiasis in Italy. In this research, we determined the occurrence of Nosema infection in Central Italy. Thirty-eight seemingly healthy apiaries (2 to 4 hives each) were randomly selected and screened from April to September 2014 (n = 11) or from May to September 2015 (n = 27). The apiaries were located in six areas of Central Italy, including Lucca (n = 11), Massa Carrara (n = 9), Pisa (n = 9), Leghorn (n = 7), Florence (n = 1), and Prato (n = 1) provinces. Light microscopy was carried out according to current OIE recommendations to screen the presence of microsporidiosis in adult worker honeybees. Since the morphological characteristics of N. ceranae and N. apis spores are similar and can hardly be distinguished by optical microscopy, all samples were also screened by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (M-PCR) assay based on 16S rRNA-gene-targeted species-specific primers to differentiate N. ceranae from N. apis. Furthermore, PCR-positive samples were also sequenced to confirm the species of amplified Nosema DNA. Notably, Nosema spores were detected in samples from 24 out of 38 (63.2%, 95% CI: 47.8–78.5%) apiaries. Positivity rates in single provinces were 10/11, 8/9, 3/9, 1/7, or 1/1 (n = 2). A full agreement (Cohen's Kappa = 1) was assessed between microscopy and M-PCR. Based on M-PCR and DNA sequencing results, only N. ceranae was found. Overall, our results highlighted that N. ceranae infection occurs frequently in the cohort of honeybee populations that was examined despite the lack of clinical signs. These findings suggest that colony disease outbreaks might result from environmental factors that lead to higher susceptibility of honeybees to this microsporidian.  相似文献

Twelve monoterpenes were evaluated for larvicidal and adulticidal activities towards Culex pipiens. Geraniol and cuminaldehyde were the most toxic monoterpenes to larvae, with LC50 values of 38.6 and 38.9 mg/l after 24 h of treatment, respectively, whereas cuminaldehyde was the most potent compound after 48 h of treatment, followed by geraniol and thymol. In fumigant toxicity experiments, (R)-carvone and geraniol were the most toxic monoterpenes against the adults at all three tested concentrations and after both 24 and 48 h. When tested at sublethal concentrations (0.5 LC50), (R)-carvone, (S)-limonene and cuminaldehyde decreased hatchability, pupation and adult emergence and induced high larval mortality. Our results suggest that geraniol, cuminaldehyde and (R)-carvone are promising toxicants against Culex pipiens and could be useful in the search for new natural insecticides.  相似文献

This research is the first record of the infection of Apis florea by Nosema ceranae, a newly identified pathogen of honeybee in Thailand which was initially isolated from A. florea workers. Each Nosema free-bee was fed 2 μl of 50% (w/v) sucrose solution containing 0, 10,000 20,000 or 40,000 Nosema spores/bee. The survival rates of treated bees were significantly lower compared to control bees. Infectivity was not statistically different among the three spore concentrations, whereas no infection was found in control bees. Protein content of control bee hypopharyngeal glands 14 days post inoculation (p.i) was significantly higher (21.47 ± 0.17 mg/bee) compared to all treatments. The infection ratio of bees treated with 40,000 spores/bee increased with time after inoculation. These results suggest that N. ceranae has a significant negative effect on honeybee hypopharyngeal gland protein production and contributes to their shortened life span.  相似文献

Water-distilled essential oil from the dried bulbs of Allium chinense (Liliaceae) was analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Eighteen compounds, accounting for 98.4% of the total oil, were identified and the main components of the essential oil of A. chinense were methyl allyl trisulfide (30.7%), dimethyl trisulfide (24.1%), methyl propyl disulfide (12.8%) and dimethyl disulfide (9.6%) followed by methyl allyl disulfide (3.4%) and methyl propyl trisulfide (3.6%). The essential oil exhibited contact toxicity against the booklice (Liposcelis bostrychophila) with an LC50 value of 441.8 μg/cm2 while the two major constituents, dimethyl trisulfide and methyl propyl disulfide had LC50 values of 153.0 μg/cm2 and 738.0 μg/cm2 against the booklice, respectively. The essential oil of A. chinense possessed strong fumigant toxicity against the booklice with an LC50 value of 186.5 μg/l while methyl allyl trisulfide (LC50 = 90.4 μg/l) and dimethyl trisulfide (LC50 = 114.2 μg/l) exhibited stronger fumigant toxicity than methyl propyl disulfide (LC50 = 243.4 μg/l) and dimethyl disulfide (LC50 = 340.8 μg/l) against the booklice. The results indicated that the essential oil and its major constituents have potential for development into natural insecticides or fumigants for control of insects in stored grains.  相似文献

Acute toxicity and genotoxicity of imidacloprid (IMI) was evaluated on Hypsiboas pulchellus (Anura: Hylidae) tadpoles exposed under laboratory conditions. A lethal effect was used as the end point for lethality, whereas the frequency of micronuclei (MNs) and DNA single-strand breaks evaluated by the single cell gel electrophoresis assay were employed as end points for genotoxicity. Experiments were performed on tadpoles at stage 36 (range, 35–37) according to the classification proposed by Gosner. Mortality studies revealed an LC50 (96 h) value of 84.91 mg/L IMI (95% confidence limits, 77.20–93.04). While increased frequency of MNs was observed when 15 and 30 mg/L were assayed for 48 h, only 15 mg/L increased the frequency of MNs in tadpoles exposed for 96 h. Furthermore, other nuclear abnormalities, i.e., binucleated cells and blebbed and notched nuclei, were induced in tadpoles exposed for both 48 h when treated with 15 mg/L and 96 h when treated with 15 and 30 mg/L. An increase in the genetic damage index was observed in tadpoles treated with 30 mg/L for 48 and 96 h. This study represents the first evidence of acute lethal and sublethal effects exerted by IMI on tadpoles of an amphibian species native to Argentina. Finally, our findings highlight the hazardous properties of this insecticide for nontarget living species exposed to this agrochemical.  相似文献

We determined the cold (freezing) tolerance for field-grown plants of Atriplex halimus L. (Chenopodiaceae) in relation to plant ploidy level, leaf water relations and accumulation of osmolytes. Plants were grown at two sites in Murcia (Spain), having average minimum temperatures in the coldest month of 0.6 and 12.1 °C, respectively. LT50 values derived from laboratory freezing tests, using leaves taken from the plants in early winter and in spring, showed greater tolerance for winter-harvested leaves; the acclimation was more pronounced at the cold-winter site. Cold tolerance was related positively with leaf K and/or Na accumulation. Analysis of compatible organic solutes (soluble sugars, total amino acids and quaternary ammonium compounds) showed that cold tolerance (measured both as LT50 and as winter freezing damage in situ) was related most closely with leaf concentrations of soluble sugars. The leaf percentage dry matter content was related to both in vitro and in vivo tolerance, while tolerance in vitro was correlated also with the osmotic (potential ψs) and the relative water content. The two diploid (2n = 2x = 18) populations, from Spain, showed greater cold tolerance than the three tetraploid (2n = 4x = 36) populations, from North Africa and Syria, which may be related to the latter's greater cell size and consequent dilution of osmolytes. In this halophytic species, cold tolerance, like salinity and drought tolerance, seems to depend on osmotic adjustment, driven by vacuolar accumulation of K and Na and cytoplasmic accumulation of compatible solutes.  相似文献
