Species composition and fruiting season of ammonia fungi were investigated in Iriomote Island of the southern Ryukyus, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan.Castanopsis andPinus forests were surveyed and 10 species of ammonia fungi were collected, including one new agaric species,Hebeloma luchuense sp. nov. This new fungus is characterized by having a rooting, squamulose-scaly stipe and cortinate veil and forms ectomycorrhizae withCastanopsis cuspidata var.sieboldii. Although the general mushroom season in theCastanopsis forest in Iriomote island was very short and restricted to summer, ammonia fungi were observed to fruit throughout the year in urea-treated plots.  相似文献

Fruit bodies of hypogeous fungi are an important food source for many small mammals and are consumed by larger mammals as well. A controversial hypothesis that prescribed burning increases fruiting of certain hypogeous fungi based on observations in Tasmania was tested in the Australian Capital Territory to determine if it applied in a quite different habitat. Ten pairs of plots, burnt and nonburnt, were established at each of two sites prescribe-burnt in May 1999. When sampled in early July, after autumn rains had initiated the fungal fruiting season, species richness and numbers of fruit bodies on the burnt plots were extremely low: most plots produced none at all. Both species richness and fruit body numbers were simultaneously high on nonburnt plots. One of the sites was resampled a year after the initial sampling. At that time species richness and fruit body abundance were still significantly less on burnt plots than on nonburnt, but a strong trend towards fungal recovery on the burnt plots was evident. This was particularly so when numbers of fruit bodies of one species, the hypogeous agaric Dermocybe globuliformis, were removed from the analysis. This species strongly dominated the nonburnt plots but was absent from burnt plots in both years. The trend towards recovery of fruit body abundance in the burnt plots one year after the burn was much more pronounced with exclusion of the Dermocybe data. The Tasmanian-based hypothesis was based mostly on the fruiting of two fire-adapted species in the Mesophelliaceae. Neither species occurred on our plots. Accordingly, the results and conclusions of the Tasmanian study cannot be extrapolated to other habitats without extensive additional study. Implications for management of habitat for fungi and the animals that rely on the fungi as a food source are discussed.  相似文献

In this study, we characterize and compare the genetic structure of aboveground and belowground populations of the ectomycorrhizal fungus Laccaria amethystina in an unmanaged mixed beech forest. Fruiting bodies and mycorrhizas of L. amethystina were mapped and collected in four plots in the ?wi?tokrzyskie Mountains (Poland). A total of 563 fruiting bodies and 394 mycorrhizas were successfully genotyped using the rDNA IGS1 (intergenic spacer) and seven simple sequence repeat markers. We identified two different genetic clusters of L. amethystina in all of the plots, suggesting that a process of sympatric isolation may be occurring at a local scale. The proportion of individuals belonging to each cluster was similar among plots aboveground while it significantly differed belowground. Predominance of a given cluster could be explained by distinct host preferences or by priority effects and competition among genets. Both aboveground and belowground populations consisted of many intermingling small genets. Consequently, host trees were simultaneously colonized by many L. amethystina genets that may show different ecophysiological abilities. Our data showed that several genets may last for at least 1 year belowground and sustain into the next season. Ectomycorrhizal species reproducing by means of spores can form highly diverse and persistent belowground genets that may provide the host tree with higher resilience in a changing environment and enhance ecosystem performance.  相似文献

To investigate the quantitative correlation between dynamics of ectomycorrhiza (ECM) formation and fruit-body production of the ammonia fungi, we treated forest soils in two ECM forests, a Castanopsis cuspidata forest and a Quercus serrata forest, in warm temperate Japan with urea to induce fruiting of ammonia fungi. We identified the ectomycorrhizae of two known species of ammonia fungi, Alnicola lactariolens and Hebeloma vinosophyllum, using morphological typing and PCR-RFLP. ECM initiation, increase, and subsequent decrease preceded the start, increase, and decrease of fruit-body production for each species. We also found many kinds of ECM fungi that did not develop fruit bodies after urea treatment during the observation period, which suggests that it is necessary to expand the definition of ammonia fungi from one that refers solely to the species reproducing on the ground to one which includes those in somatic forms in the soil.  相似文献

Summary Different mycorrhizal fungi were tested for their effectiveness in promoting growth of Sitka spruce seedlings, in two contrasting soils, in a glasshouse pot experiment. In nursery soil,Laccaria amethystina significantly improved growth of seedlings in comparison toL. laccata. Seedlings inoculated with a forest isolate ofThelephora terrestris were significantly larger than those inoculated with a nursery isolate when grown in forest soil. The effectiveness ofComplexipes moniliformis in forest soil was poor in comparison to other mycorrhizal fungi. Strains aswell as species of mycorrhizal fungi affect seedling growth differently. These effects are further influenced by soil type.  相似文献

) grown in natural forest soil in southern Germany was examined by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) using fluorescent oligonucleotide probes, targeting phylogenetic relevant sequences of the 16S and 23S rRNA. Lactarius subdulcis, L. vellereus, L. rubrocinctus and Laccaria amethystina were found to be the prevalent fungi forming ectomycorrhizae with F. sylvatica. For FISH studies using confocal laser scanning microscopy, oligonucleotide probes labeled with carboxymethylindocyanine-succinimidyl ester allowed detection of associated bacteria, because the autofluorescence of ectomycorrhiza samples could be overcome in the infrared. Bacteria of the α-, β and γ-subclasses of the proteobacteriawere detected in high numbers on mantle surfaces, while members of other phylogenetically defined groups were found in smaller numbers. This contrasts with previous published results on the cultivation of mycorrhiza-associated bacteria. Hybridizing bacteria were also found within damaged cells of the hyphal mantle of L. rubrocinctus, as well as on emanating hyphae of L. amethystina. Using a newly developed extraction protocol for bacteria associated with ectomycorhizas, the two most common fungi on F. sylvatica, L. vellereus and L. subdulcis, were mostly associated with members of the α- and β-subclasses of the proteobacteria. The proportion of hybridizing bacteria varied between the two ectomycorrhizae, which were thus host to distinct populations of bacteria.  相似文献

In experiments in which the European tarnished plant bug, Lygus rugulipennis, was caged on the developing flowers or young fruits of strawberry, the insects caused malformation of the fruits. Another species of capsid, Plagiognathus chrysanthemi, caused similar damage; this species is less numerous than L. rugulipennis on late-season crops of strawberry in UK. Other insects which sometimes occur in large numbers in the flowers of late-season strawberry, i.e. various species of thrips and pollen beetles, did not cause fruit malformation in caging experiments, though thrips sometimes caused discoloration of the fruit. In field experiments where numbers of L. rugulipennis were reduced by the use of insecticides, the amount of misshapen fruit was reduced greatly compared to untreated plots. Correlations between the numbers of L. rugulipennis present at the early stages of fruit development and damage scores for fruit deformity were highly significant. This capsid is likely to be the major cause of fruit malformation in late-season crops of strawberry in the UK.  相似文献

Six species of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi (Glomus aggregatum, G. clarum, G. etunicatum, G. intraradices, G. mosseae and G. versiforme) were evaluated, in three greenhouse experiments, for their effects on reproduction of the root-lesion nematode, Pratylenchus penetrans, and growth of Ottawa 3 apple rootstock. Glomus mosseae increased total dry weights of nematode-inoculated and non-inoculated rootstock in all three greenhouse experiments, and G. intraradices increased dry weights in two of three greenhouse experiments. Plants inoculated with G. mosseae generally supported fewer P. penetrans per gram of root than plants inoculated with other AM fungi, but did not differ significantly from the controls in any greenhouse experiment. Colonization of roots by AM fungi was reduced by P. penetrans at initial inoculum densities greater than 250 nematodes/L soil. In field trials, preplant inoculation with either G. intraradices or G. mosseae increased rootstock growth and leaf concentrations of P, Mg, Zn and Cu in fumigated plots but not in non-fumigated plots, indicating that colonization by native AM fungi in non-fumigated plots may have been sufficient for adequate nutrient acquisition. The abundance of vesicles and arbuscules was greater in roots of plants inoculated with AM fungi before planting than in roots of non-inoculated plants, in both fumigated and non-fumigated plots. P. penetrans per gram of root and per 50 ml soil were significantly lower for G. mosseae- inoculated plants than for non-inoculated plants in fumigated soil but not in non-fumigated soil.  相似文献

The relation between the occurrence of carpophores of mycorrhizal fungi, tree vitality, and air pollution in ‘young’ (5–10 years) and ‘old’ (50–80 years) stands ofPinus sylvestris L. was investigated. In the Netherlands 21 homogeneous plots of 1000 m2 were selected on dry, sandy soils. Tree vitality was assessed in the summer of 1985 and during the autumn the plots were searched for carpophores of mycorrhizal fungi. In the young plots 3 times more species of ectomycorrhizal fungi and 20 times more carpophores per plot were found than in the old plots. In the old plots, the number of carpophores and the number of species showed significant positive correlations with the average number of needleyears of the trees. The number of carpophores and the number of species were significantly negative correlated with the concentrations of SO2 and O3 in the air and the amount of NH3 emission. The number of needleyears, the crown density and the overall tree vitality were found to be significantly negative correlated with the amount of NH3 emission, and the number of needleyears also with the concentration of O3 in the air. Such correlations were not found for the young plots. No differences were found in soil chemical properties between the plots. Evidence was obtained that the fructification of mycorrhizal fungi of old stands ofPinus sylvestris is influenced by air pollution either directly, or indirectly by way of tree vitality. It is hypothesized that the young plots offer more advantageous circumstances for fructification of the fungi because of the disturbance of the upper soil-layer at the time of planting.  相似文献

The two species of the genusBrimeura (Liliaceae),B. amethystina andB. fastigiata, show a strikingly disjunct geographical distribution. Both species have a bimodal chromosome complement, 2n = 28, which includes 10 large (L) and 18 small (S) chromosomes. Most of the L-chromosomes possess heterochromatic segments which show enhanced quinacrine fluorescence. The resulting banding patterns are species-specific. Two triploid plants have been found inB. fastigiata.  相似文献

The effects of para-chlorophenoxyacetic acid(p-CPA) application in improving the reduction in growthrate and sugar accumulation, and on the peel color and firmness ofparthenocarpic fruit, and its residual content in the treated fruit wereexamined. p-CPA application to parthenocarpic fruit duringthe rapid growth stage [5 or 10 days after anthesis (DAA)] enhanced the fruitweight, but was ineffective when applied at 40 DAA. p-CPA– promoting of fruit growth increased as the applied concentration rose,so the weight of fruit treated by p-CPA at 500 mgL–1 (the highest level) was the greatest in all plots;however the peel was considerably softer and abnormal swelling occurred in thenet. p-CPA applied to parthenocarpic fruit from 5 to 25DAAincreased sucrose content, the most effective application time being justbeforethe onset of sucrose accumulation (25 DAA). Fructose and glucose contents wereconsiderably lower than that of sucrose, and were not affected byp-CPA. p-CPA promoted sucroseaccumulation when applied to pollinated fruit, which showed the highest levelofenhancement in all plots. During the maturation period, the peel ofparthenocarpic fruit was a darker green color and the netting did not fullydevelop compared to pollinated fruit. p-CPA applicationsat10 or 25 DAA improved the peel color and netting of parthenocarpic fruits;therefore, the L value was similar to that of seeded fruit and the hue angledeclined. Applications of p-CPA during the early growthstage reduced the firmness of the mesocarp concomitant with increases in theapplied concentrations. p-CPA was present in the fruit atharvest, when applied from 10 to 25 DAA, even at 20 mgL–1. The residue level increased as the appliedconcentration rose, but p-CPA was not detected in thenon-treated plot.  相似文献

We studied the effects of the timing of urea treatment on the succession of ammonia fungi. In two evergreen Castanopsis cuspidata forests and in one deciduous Quercus serrata forest, we applied 343g urea to 25 and 15 plots of 0.5m2, respectively, at three different times of the year. Ten of the early-phase (EP) species, considered to be saprotrophic, and 6 of the late-phase (LP) ones, considered ectomycorrhizal, fruited. In both phases, the commencement, peak, and cessation of fruiting took place simultaneously among all the plots treated at the same time. The fruiting occurred in summer and autumn. Quantity and size of the fruit bodies was larger in the LP than in the EP species. Fruiting of EP species was affected by the treatment time and that of LP species by interaction of the treatment time and vegetation type. EP was short and occurred as one period, whereas LP was long and occurred as two or more fruiting seasons. We found that species composition, dominant species, and degree of its dominance in fruiting of the ammonia fungi are predictable for different treatment times of the year and different vegetation types.  相似文献

Laccaria amethystina is a major early successional ectomycorrhizal fungus. We isolated 10 polymorphic loci from L. amethystina using a dual‐suppression‐PCR (polymerase chain reaction) technique. These loci provided microsatellite markers with polymorphism of two to 10 alleles per locus. The observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.136 to 0.545 and 0.206 to 0.877, respectively.  相似文献

Effects of the saprophytic fungus Fusarium oxysporum on arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) colonization and plant dry matter were studied in greenhouse and field experiments. Host plants: maize (Zea mays L.), sorghum (Sorghum vulgare L.), lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum L.), wheat (Triticum vulgare L), lentil (Ervum lens L.) and pea (Pisum sativum L.), the AM fungi: Glomus mosseae, G. fasciculatum, G. intraradices, G. clarum, and G. deserticola and the carriers for F. oxysporum inoculum: aqueous solution, thin agar slices, and pellets of agar and alginate were tested under greenhouse conditions. Greatest plant growth and AM colonization responses in sterilized and unsterilized soils were observed with pea, Glomus deserticola and sodium alginate pellets as the carrier for F. oxysporum inoculum. Under field conditions, adding F. oxysporum increased the survival of transplanted pea, possibly through a beneficial effect on AM fungi. Application of F. oxysporum increased shoot dry matter, N and P concentrations of pea and sorghum plants, and the level of AM colonization attained by indigenous or introduced AM fungi. These parameters were similar in plants inoculated with either G. deserticola or with the indigenous AM fungi. Application of the saprophytic fungus increased the number of propagules of AM fungi in field plots in which pea was grown, but this increase was not sufficient to increase AM colonization of sorghum after the pea crop. A field experiment was set up in five mature Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) stands in the Netherlands in order to study the effects of removal of litter and humus on ectomycorrhizal fungi and vegetation of higher plants, bryophytes, and lichens. Lime was also applied as a countermeasure to the removal of surplus cations. Application of lime did not have significant effects on mycorrhizal fungi. Removal of ectorganic material increased species richness of ectomycorrhizal fungi. The number of fruit bodies was also higher in the sod-cut plots, but the difference compared with the controls was not significant in all years. A major effect of removal of the ectorganic layer was a reversion of ectomycorrhizal succession to earlier stages. Liming increased the number and cover of ruderal, nitrophilous plant species. Sod-cutting caused a reversion of the green vegetation to earlier successional stages.  相似文献

A study was conducted in Mississippi from 1995 to 1997 comparing soil rhizosphere fungi isolated from Pioneer 3167 hybrid maize (Zea mays L.) planted on Brooksville silty clay and Memphis silt loam soils. Maize seedlings were collected over four sampling dates from conventional and no-tillage plots. Eleven fungal genera consisting of nineteen species were isolated from these plants; Trichoderma spp. were most frequently isolated, followed by Fusarium spp. The highest disease incidence occurred in tilled plots of the latest planting date on Brooksville silty clay when samples were collected 17 days after planting. Root disease was most severe in 1996 from seedlings planted on the last planting date in tilled plots sampled 17 days after planting. Yields were significantly (P ≤ 0.05) higher on Brooksville silty clay soil than on Memphis silt loam in both 1995 and 1996. Yields were highest from no-tillage plots and from maize planted on the earliest date. There was a significant correlation between incidence of root infection and disease severity. There was no correlation between the incidence of root infection and yield or between disease severity and yield at either location. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Summary Protoplasts isolated from seedling cotyledons of yellow passionfruit (Passiflora edulis var. flavicarpa Deg.) and two related wild species, P. amethystina Mikan. and P. cincinnata Mast., divided in culture and produced calli. Shoot regeneration was obtained in MS medium (Murashige and Skoog 1962) containing 2.0 mg/l 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP). Regenerated plants produced roots in half-strength hormone-free MS medium and could be transferred to soil after being acclimatized.  相似文献

We assessed the potential of annual buckwheat, Fagopyrum esculentum Moench, to lead to improved parasitism of lepidopteran cabbage pests over four years. Pest, parasitism, and hyperparasitism rates were monitored in replicated cabbage plots (12 × 20 m) with or without 3 m wide buckwheat borders from 2000 to 2003. Floral borders did not significantly increase egg, larval, or pupal densities of cabbage looper, Trichoplusia ni (Hübner), imported cabbageworm, Pieris rapae (L.), or diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.). Buckwheat increased parasitism rates by Voria ruralis (Fallen) on T. ni larvae and Cotesia rubecula (Marshall) on P. rapaelarvae over four years. Parasitism by Diadegma insulare (Cresson) on P. xylostella larvae was higher in buckwheat than control plots in the first year, and parasitism by Euplectrus plathypenae (Howard) on T. ni larvae was lower in buckwheat than control plots in the second year. The hyperparasitoid Conura side (Walker) attacked D. insulare all four years, but buckwheat did not affect hyperparasitism rates. The effect of spatial scale on pest densities and parasitism in 2001 was evaluated by comparing plots separated at least 67 m (nearby) versus 800 m apart (isolated). T. ni pupae and P. rapae eggs and pupae were more abundant in plots in closer proximity, whereas P. xylostella densities did not vary by the spatial separation of plots. Tachinids and Pteromalus puparum (L.) attacked more P. rapae in nearby plots. E. plathypenae responded to the treatment × scale interaction, parasitizing more in control than buckwheat when plots were isolated but not when plots were nearby.  相似文献
