Polymerization of 20% neutralized acrylic acid (Na form), AA, in presence of Karaya gum, KG, or tamarind seed gum, TG, at AA/gum weight ratio of 1/1 and 2/1 results in PAA/KG1, PAA/KG2, PAA/TG1 and PAA/TG2 adducts, respectively (where the suffix 1 or 2 stands for AA/gum ratios of 1/1 or 2/1). Infra red spectra of adducts are examined. Aqueous pastes of adducts, native gums and GG are of non-Newtonian thixotropic flow within a shear rate range of 4–40 s−1. Adduct pastes (7.5% w/v) are of higher apparent viscosities (η) than their native gums or GG, and pastes of TG adducts are of higher η than KG adducts. Except for PAA/TG2 adduct, the power law does not correlate well to the other pastes. Preliminary trials showed that adducts are excellent thickeners for reactive and acid printing on wool, silk and nylon 6. Prints by adducts are of higher color strength than those by native gums or GG. GG paste was completely destroyed after storing for 7 days, whereas η of pastes of adducts and native gums were noticeably decreased upon storing.  相似文献

The seeds of Cassia occidentalis, an annual weed occurring throughout India, is a rich source of galactomannan gum. The gum derived from seed endosperm can be potentially utilized in a number of industries to replace the conventional gums. With a view to utilize the gum for broader applications, carbamoylethylation of C. occidentalis seed gum was carried out with acrylamide in presence of sodium hydroxide under different reaction conditions. Variables studied were concentration of sodium hydroxide, acrylamide, gum–solvent ratio, reaction time and temperature. The nitrogen content, carboxyl content and total ether content were determined. The optimum condition for preparing carbamoylethyl C. occidentalis seed gum (%N=2.57) comprised concentration of acrylamide (0.070 mol), sodium hydroxide (0.125 mol), C. occidentalis seed gum (0.03 mol) at 30 °C for 3 h. Rheological properties of carbamoylethyl C. occidentalis seed gum solution showed non-Newtonian pseudo-plastic behavior, relatively high viscosity, cold water solubility and solution clarity vis-à-vis unmodified C. occidentalis seed gum.  相似文献

Guar gum is a non-ionic polysaccharide that is found abundantly in nature and has many properties desirable for drug delivery applications. However, due to its high swelling characteristics in aqueous solution, the use of guar gum as delivery carriers is limited. Guar gum can be modified by derivatization, grafting and network formation to improve its property profile for a wide spectrum of biomedical applications. This review article is aimed at focusing the recent efforts and developments on guar gum and its derivatives as colon-specific, antihypertensive, protein and transdermal drug delivery systems. Based on the literatures reviewed, it is concluded that guar gum and its derivatives in the various forms such as coatings, matrix tablets, hydrogels and nano/microparticles can be exploited as potential carriers for targeted drug delivery.  相似文献

Solubilities and rheological properties of dissolved fractions of cashew gum from Anacardium occidentale were investigated. A fraction of gum (64.2%) dissolved in water at 30 °C. A further 13.4% dissolved when the remaining suspension was heated. The fraction that dissolved at 30 °C produced greater solution viscosity than the other fraction or the whole gum. When the pH was raised above 5.5, the solution viscosity dropped sharply.  相似文献

Spray dried microcapsules of mint oil were prepared using gum Arabic alone and its blends with radiation or enzymatically depolymerized guar gum as wall materials. Microcapsules were evaluated for retention of mint oil during 8-week storage during which qualitative changes in encapsulated mint oil was monitored using principal component analysis. The microcapsules with radiation depolymerized guar gum as wall material component could better retain major mint oil compounds such as menthol and isomenthol. The t(1/2) calculated for mint oil in microcapsules of gum Arabic, gum Arabic:radiation depolymerized guar gum (90:10), gum Arabic:enzyme depolymerized guar gum (90:10) was 25.66, 38.50, and 17.11 weeks, respectively. The results suggested a combination of radiation depolymerized guar gum and gum Arabic to show better retention of encapsulated flavour than gum Arabic alone as wall material.  相似文献

Optical rotation, circular dichroism, and microcalorimetric data clearly and consistently show that gellan gum, S-60 (Me4N+ form), undergoes in water at 25° a rather sharp conformational transition upon increasing the concentration of added Me4NCl. Similar data show that S-60 behaves anomalously upon addition of Ca2+ ions with, eventually, formation of aggregates and/or gels. The Me4NCl-induced conformational change of S-60 is thermally reversible with no hysteresis. In contrast, with welan gum, S-130 (Me4N+ form), no evidence could be found for a dependence of chain conformation of the main external variables considered. Comparison of the circular-dichroism spectra of the two polysaccharides suggests that S-130 in water might be present in a stiff conformation similar to that assumed by S-60 in aqueous Me4NCl.  相似文献

Variables studied were concentration of sodium hydroxide, acrylamide, guar gum as well as reaction temperature and time. The nitrogen content, carboxyl content and total ether content were determined. Rheological properties of carbamoylethyl guar gum solutions showed non-Newtonian pseudoplastic behavior regardless of the %N. At a constant rate of shear, the apparent viscosity of carbamoylethyl guar gum solutions decreases with the increase in %N of the product.  相似文献

Commercial guar gum (GG) was purified by four different methods and characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), thermogravimetric analysis and the determination of monosaccharides composition, protein and copper content, turbidity, intrinsic viscosity and rheological parameters. The first method was based on enzymatic hydrolysis with porcine pancreatin. In the second method successive gum dissolution, centrifugation and precipitation with acetone and ethanol were carried out. Precipitation with Fehling solution was employed in the third method. In the fourth method, the gum was purified by method 2 and then by method 3. All methods led to a reduction in protein content, arabinose and glucose residues, considered as sugar contaminants, and also in intrinsic viscosity and molar mass. Total elimination of protein was only achieved by method 4. Using methods 3 and 4, the gum was contaminated with small amounts of Cu(II) from the Fehling solution. Methods 2 and 4 apparently provided purer guar gum. If the amount of protein is a crucial parameter in the biological application and the guar will be taken in low amounts, method 4 is recommended. Taking into account the purity, thermal stability, rheological parameters of the purified gum and also the cost and simplicity of the procedure, method 2 has wider biological application.  相似文献

The effect of annealing on xanthan gum molecules was investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM). The values of height and width of xanthan gum molecules in AFM images are ca. 1 nm, which strongly indicates that xanthan gum molecules extended on the mica surface are in mono- or double layers. When xanthan gum aqueous solution was annealed, a network structure was observed. In contrast, a network structure was not observed for non-annealed solution. AFM images provide direct information concerning oscillational change of the network structure. It is concluded that xanthan gum molecular chains in aqueous solution aggregate and dissociate in an oscillational manner with increasing annealing time and that a homogeneous network structure was formed by annealing at 40 °C for 24 h.  相似文献

The composition and solution properties of Indian and Papuan specimens of the gum from Anacardium occidentale have been studied and found to be closely similar. Contrary to earlier reports by Indian workers, this gum does not contain galacturonic acid. It does, however, contain glucose; this appears to be the first report of the presence of this sugar in a plant gum exudate. A freeze-dried sample of the gum was examined at intervals over a period of 2 months; its weight-average MW increased by a factor of three in that time, and molecular-sieve chromatography showed that self-association occurred with the formation of a small proportion of a very high MW component.  相似文献

The viscoelastic properties of Aeromonas (A) gum in water were investigated by using the Rheometric Scientific ARES controlled strain rheometer. An intrinsic viscosity of 8336 ml/g was obtained according to the Fuoss-Straus equation. The effect of salt concentration on intrinsic viscosity revealed that the A gum exists as semiflexible chain. Typical shear-thinning (pseudoplastic) behavior was observed at concentrations higher than 0.52%. The zero shear viscosity (eta(0)) increased with increasing polysaccharide concentration (c) showing a gradient of approximately 1.0, 2.9 and 4.8 in different concentration domains. The critical concentrations c* and c**, at which the transitions from a dilute solution of independently moving chains to semidilute and then concentrated domains occurred, were determined roughly to be 1.2% and 3.5%. The results from dynamic experiments revealed that the A gum solution shows characteristics of polymer solutions without any evidence of gel-like character. All the results from steady and dynamic tests suggest that the A gum is a non-gelling polysaccharide. The temperature dependence of apparent viscosity was described by Arrhenius equation and the flow activation energy was estimated to be 45.2 kJ/mol, which is independent on polymer concentration.  相似文献

目的:本论文采用了含羧甲基壳聚糖的口香糖,咀嚼这种口香糖的机械效果加速了其对口腔细菌的抑制作用,还比较口腔嗽洗液和咀嚼口香糖的抗菌效果,证明了通过咀嚼这种口香糖加速了唾液的分泌.方法:从青岛大学口腔科的老师和学生中选取了12名健康的受试者.在测试前取受试者的唾液测试细菌含量.在测试口香糖的试验中,受试者咀嚼5分钟口香糖然后休息5分钟.在测试口腔嗽洗液时,受试者用10ml嗽洗液漱口30秒后,休息9分30秒.同一天中这些测试步骤在50分钟内连续不断的进行了5次.5次测试后分别在0、30和60min收集被试者的唾液测试细菌含量.在测试唾液分泌的试验中,受试者每天咀嚼三次口香糖持续两天.结果:与使用口腔嗽洗液相比,咀嚼含羧甲基壳聚糖口香糖的受试者,在三个取样时间内口腔细菌的含量基本都明显减少,但是在60分钟的取样时间结果有点差异.咀嚼含羧甲基壳聚糖的口香糖明显提高了唾液的分泌量.结论:咀嚼含羧甲基壳聚糖的口香糖具有明显的抗菌效果.目前的研究结果强有力的证明了:使用像壳聚糖以及其衍生物这样的天然物质,对我们的口腔健康以及生活质量都有很大的帮助.  相似文献

Many plant gums, such as gum arabic, contain hydroxyproline-rich glycoproteins (HRGPs), which are also abundant components of the plant cell extracellular matrix. Here we expressed in transgenic BY2 Nicotiana tabacum (tobacco) cells, a synthetic gene encoding a novel HRGP-based gum, designated gum arabic-8 or (GA)(8). (GA)(8) encoded eight repeats of the consensus polypeptide sequence of gum arabic glycoprotein (GAGP): Gly-Pro-His-Ser-Pro-Pro-Pro-Pro-Leu-Ser-Pro-Ser-Pro-Thr-Pro-Thr-Pro-Pro-Leu, in which most of the Pro residues were posttranslationally modified to hydroxyproline (Hyp). (GA)(8) was expressed as a green fluorescent protein (GFP) fusion protein targeted to the culture medium, (GA)(8)GFP. The culture of the transgenic cells in a 5-L bioreactor showed that the production of (GA)(8)GFP was cell growth-associated. The extracellular yield of (GA)(8)GFP was 116.8 mg/L after 14 days of culture and accounted for 87% of the total fusion protein expressed. (GA)(8)GFP was purified from the culture medium by a combination of hydrophobic interaction, gel permeation, and reversed phase chromatography. Biochemical characterization indicated that the amino acid composition of the (GA)(8) module, after removal of GFP by proteolysis, was virtually identical to that of predicted by the GAGP consensus sequence and that carbohydrate, which occurred as arabinogalactan polysaccharides and small oligoarabinosides O-linked through the Hyp residues, accounted for 84% of the molecules' dry weight. Functional assays showed that (GA)(8) exhibited low viscosity in aqueous solution similar to native GAGP. However, neither GFP alone nor the (GA)(8) module could emulsify orange oil. However, the fusion protein (GA)(8)GFP possessed 1.28-fold better emulsification properties than native GAGP. This work demonstrates the feasibility and potential of a synthetic gene approach to the de novo design of novel glycoprotein-based gums and emulsifiers.  相似文献

In this report we describe the use of xantham gum as a biologically inert material for increasing the viscosity of a suspension of cells or particles during flow cytometric analysis and sorting. A 0.1% concentration of xantham gum in culture medium or saline will increase the viscosity approximately 9-fold. For suspensions of multicellular spheroids 100-400 microns in diameter the measured sedimentation velocity was approximately 9 times slower than that in medium alone. Thus, spheroids of 100 microns diameter remain in suspension in 0.1% xantham gum for 66 min, compared to 7.5 min in culture medium. This allows extended periods of sorting without stirring or agitating the sample suspension. The xantham gum solution is noncytotoxic for periods up to 8 h as measured by clonogenicity assay. Xantham gum has the added advantage that the viscosity is significantly reduced when the solution is subjected to shear stress, such as during flow. This technique should be applicable to extended sorting of suspensions of spheroids, plant cells, and other large particles, as well as for analyzing and sorting single cells for extended periods.  相似文献

Gellan gum     
For decades microbial exopolysaccharides have been invaluable ingredients in the food industry, as well as having many attractive pharmaceutical and chemical applications. Gellan gum is a comparatively new gum elaborated by the Gram-negative bacterium Sphingomonas paucimobilis. Although its physico-chemical properties have been well characterized, the ecology and physiology of Sphingomonas, and the factors influencing the fermentation process for production of this gum have received much less attention. This review focuses on the metabolism and the enzymic activity of this bacterium, as well as the factors that influence gellan production, including process temperature, pH, stirring rate, oxygen transfer, and composition of the production medium. Potential strategies for improving the production process are discussed in the context of processes for the production of other microbial biopolymers, particularly exopolysaccharides. In addition, the importance and potential utility of gellan lyases in modification of gellan and in other applications is critically evaluated.  相似文献

Autohydrolysis of an aqueous solution of purified, exudate gum from Spondias dulcis trees yielded a degraded gum containing d-galactose, l-arabinose, and d-galacturonic acid in the mole ratios of 3:3:1. Methylation studies were conducted on the degraded gum and its carboxyl-reduced derivative. Three neutral and three acidic oligosaccharides were obtained on graded hydrolysis of the degraded gum, and these were characterized. Based on the results, a tentative structure was proposed for the repeating unit in the polysaccharide. The results of periodate oxidation supported the structure assigned. The anomeric configurations of the sugar residues were determined by studies of oxidation with chromium trioxide.  相似文献

Guar gum was hydrolyzed using cellulase from Aspergillus niger at 5.6 pH and 50°C temperature. Hydrolyzed guar gum sample was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, dilute solution viscometry and rotational viscometry. Viscometry analysis of native guar gum showed a molecular weight of 889742.06, whereas, after enzymatic hydrolysis, the resultant product had a molecular weight of 7936.5. IR spectral analysis suggests that after enzymatic hydrolysis of guar gum there was no major transformation of functional group. Thermal analysis revealed no major change in thermal behavior of hydrolyzed guar gum. It was shown that partial hydrolysis of guar gum could be achieved by inexpensive and food grade cellulase (Aspergillus niger) having commercial importance and utilization as a functional soluble dietary fiber for food industry.  相似文献

Summary When paraffin sections of mouse and rat kidney, liver and spleen were fixed in a formalin-type fixative overnight, then preserved in Holt's hypertonic gum-sucrose solution, erythrocytes stained strongly by the McManus periodic acid-Schiff method. The same tissues processed without gum-sucrose did not exhibit such positive staining of red blood cells. Tissues treated with the individual gum-sucrose components, a solution of gum arabic or of sucrose, gave positive staining of erythrocytes only after gum arabic. Powdered gum arabic but not sucrose crystals stained positively. The erythrocyte reaction in formalinfixed tissue treated with gum-sucrose is therefore related to the presence of gum arabic in Holt's solution. Opposing results were encountered with two non-formalin fixatives, glutaraldehyde and acetone, in that staining was consistently positive throughout in the former and consistently negative in the latter, regardless of gum-sucrose treatment.  相似文献

The composition, structure and rheological properties and metal ions interaction with Enterolobium contortisilliquum gum were investigated. This gum contains galactose, arabinose, rhamnose and glucuronic acid as main monosaccharide components. 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy revealed that the anomeric composition is similar to the Enterolobium cyclocarpum exudate, however no 4-O-methylglucuronic acid was detected for E. contortisilliquum. The rheological experiment resulted in a very similar flow behaviour to that found for E. cyclocarpum gum. The empirical stiffness parameter, B was determined (B=0.090) and suggested that the polysaccharide possesses semi-flexible chains. Cation affinity of the gum aqueous solution was determined by intrinsic viscosity measurements and gelation. The melting temperature of gels pointed to a charge/ionic radius ratio dependence for metal ions. Thermodynamic parameters (enthalpy and entropy) at the melting temperature were also calculated.  相似文献

The capacity of nicotine-containing chewing gum to produce plasma nicotine levels comparable to heavy cigarette smoking was tested in 21 subjects. On a fixed schedule of one piece of gum (4 mg nicotine) per hour, the average peak plasma nicotine concentration was 175-7 nmol/l (28-5 ng/ml) compared to 189-3 nmol/l (30-7 ng/ml) obtained from normal ad libitum smoking. Unpleasant side effects were common and in some cases plasma nicotine concentrations were two and even three times as high as with smoking; The chewing gum provided some satisfaction to all but four subjects, but its degree was not related to the concentration of plasma nicotine it produced, neither was there an inverse relation between the plasma nicotine concentration while taking the gum and the subjective sense of missing cigarettesmthis suggests that the capacity of the gum to act as a substitute for smoking is not necessarily related to its capacity to provide nicotine. Flexible dosage dictated by individual needs would probably lower the incidence of side effects and might secure closer approximation to smoking concentrations of plasma nicotine.  相似文献
