Plantations of native‐tree species are often recommended for ecological restoration, but the understanding of how these techniques catalyze natural ecological processes is limited. We investigated natural regeneration in five plantations of native trees in the Poço das Antas Biological Reserve (PABR) in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The plantations were 9–11 years old, and contained 8–14 native‐tree species with different compositions and relative density of species. We analyzed floristic composition, structure (density and basal area) of overstory and understory strata, as well as other ecological attributes (dispersal syndromes, fruit or seed size, and the availability of fruit for frugivores). Zoochorous species comprised 77% of the community, with a prevalence of the two smallest size classes of propagules (< 0.6 and 0.6–1.6 cm) in natural regeneration. The density of zoochorous plants in the understory was positively correlated with their density in the overstory, indicating their influence on natural regeneration (r2 = 0.36; p < 0.0002). Fruit availability for frugivores (density and richness of plants fruiting during the year) was also positively correlated with the density of stems in the understory. Therefore, attributes such as dispersal syndrome and fruiting season should be considered in selecting species to be planted. The differences in natural regeneration observed in each of the native‐tree plantations indicated that the performance of plantations as a restoration strategy may differ, depending on initial species composition, planting density, and site conditions. 相似文献

Studying on the community structure, species composition and species diversities of the secondary succession of lower subtropical forest in Heishiding Natural Reserve, Guangdong Province, the following results were obtained. In 2 ~4 years of restored stage the seedlings of pioneer species, heliophytes and mesophytes occur simultaneously. In 10 years of restored stage pioneer species are superior as heliophytes maintain stable and mesophytes are being decreased. In the stage of mixed forest pioneer species are on the decreasing and heliopytes are on the increasing trend. In the stage of evergreen broad-leaved forest dominated by heliophytes pioneer species are being declined, heliophytes are dominant and mesophytes are being increased. In the stage of evergTeen broad-leaved forest dominated by mesophytes heliophytes are being declined and mesophytes are superior. The vertical structure, horizontal structure, the structure of species composition determine stability of communities in secondary succession process. The vertical structure of community is building up in the stage of restoration. The community is composed of the stands under the third class. The forest canopy is not stratified. The individual density is stable. From restored stage to mixed forest the vertical structure of community is diversified. There are the third and forth class stands in community. The tree layer is divided into three sub-layers. The individual density declines rapidly because of self-thinning. In the mixed forest the vertical stmcture is relatively stable. The abundance of the fifth class stands and area of breast height reach the first peak in the succession serial. The individual density increases rapidly. In stage of evergreen broad-leaved forest dominated by heliophytes, the vertical structure changes largely. The abundance of the fifth class and area of breast height decline rapidly, but the individual density changes slowly. In the stage of evergreen broad-leaved forest dominated by mesophytes, the vertical structure of community is stable and the composition of every stand class becomes more stable. The area of breast height is the biggest in the succession serial. When succession develops, the coverage of communities increases gradually but the turnover rate of species declines. The species composition tends to be stabilized. The diversity of species and community evenness increase gradually thus, the ecological dominance declines gradually. 相似文献

Research on tropical dry forest (TDF) succession i0s needed for effective conservation and management of this threatened and understudied ecosystem. We used a highly replicated chronosequence within a 37,242‐ha TDF landscape to investigate successional patterns by plant size class and to evaluate the influence of stand age, topographic position, soil properties and spatial autocorrelation on forest structure and composition. We used a SPOT5 satellite image to obtain a land‐cover thematic map, and sampled woody vegetation (adults: >5 cm diam; saplings: 1–5 cm) and soil properties in 168 plots distributed among four vegetation classes: VC1 (3–8‐yr‐old forest), VC2 (9–15‐yr‐old forest), VC3 (>15‐yr‐old forest on flat areas), VC4 (>15‐yr‐old forest on hills). Stem density decreased with stand age and was lowest in VC3, while height, basal area and species density increased with age and were higher in older than in younger forests. Topographic position also influenced forest structure and composition. Basal area and height were largely determined by stand age, whereas stem and species density, and composition were influenced mostly by soil variables associated with fertility, and by spatial autocorrelation. Adults and saplings showed contrasting patterns and correlates of community structure, but similar patterns and correlates of composition, possibly due to the prevalence of coppicing. Our results show that our sampling approach can overcome several limitations of chronosequence studies, and provide insights in the patterns and drivers of succession, as well as guidelines for forest management and conservation. DNA-based pyrosequencing analysis of the V1- V3 16S rRNA gene region was used to identify bacteria community and shift during early stages of wood colonization in boreal forest soils. The dataset comprised 142,447 sequences and was affiliated to 11 bacteria phyla, 25 classes and 233 genera. The dominant groups across all samples were Proteobacteria, followed by Bacteroidetes, Acidobacteria, Actinobacteria, Amatimonadetes, Planctomycetes and TM7 group. The community structure of the primary wood-inhabiting bacteria differed between types of forest soils and the composition of bacteria remained stable over prolonged incubation time. The results suggest that variations in soil bacterial community composition have an influence on the wood-inhabiting bacterial structure. 相似文献

实施森林分类经营导致土壤微生物生态的变化,是保护区生态环境监测的任务之一。结合甘肃天水小陇山土壤微生物多年调研资料,在总结针叶林和阔叶林下微生物群落特征的基础上,比较了阔叶林转化为针叶林后土壤微生物的动态。结果表明:1暖温带阔叶林土壤微生物数量和分布特征的生态幅较小,针叶林较大;2针阔林下土壤微生物群落优势菌属相同,但针叶林的优势属葡萄球菌属(Staphylococcus)及稀有菌属头孢霉属(Cephalosporium)在阔叶林未出现,阔叶林常见属交链孢霉属(Alternaria)在针叶林未出现;3暖温带阔叶林土壤微生物多样性指数均大于针叶林,针、阔叶林下功能菌群类型且其数量排序基本一致;4阔叶林转变为针叶林后,对不同时期土壤微生物群落的数量、分布、种属组成、多样性和功能菌群等特征的全面分析认为,土壤微生物逐步适应了地上植被的变化,即微生物与环境关系的建立与地上植被类型的关系更密切。 相似文献

以鼎湖山森林演替的空间系列及黑石顶天然次生林为研究对象,探讨了南亚热带森林群落生物量和生产力动态特征。研究结果表明,随着演替进程的发展,群落的生物量不断积累,但生物量的各用份的动态趋向并不一致,其中叶生物量的最高值出现在演替的中后期.在演替过程中生产力的动态与生物量变化相一致,随着演替的进展第一性生产力不断增加,但演替过程生产力的发展速率不是均匀的,生产力在群落的演变前期发展较侠,在中、后期则发展较慢。 相似文献

AIMS: To determine the microbial succession of the dominating taxa and functional groups of microorganisms and the total microbial activity during the composting of biowaste in a monitored process. METHODS AND RESULTS: Biowaste (vegetable, fruit and garden waste) was composted in a monitored composting bin system. During the process, taxonomic and functional subpopulations of microorganisms were enumerated, and dominating colonies were isolated and identified. All counts decreased during the thermophilic phase of the composting, but increased again when the temperature declined. Total microbial activity, measured with an enzyme activity assay, decreased during the thermophilic phase, increased substantially thereafter, and decreased again during maturation. Bacteria dominated during the thermophilic phase while fungi, streptomycetes and yeasts were below the detection limit. Different bacterial populations were found in the thermophilic and mesophilic phases. In fresh wastes and during the peak-heating phase, all bacterial isolates were bacilli. During the cooling and maturation phase the bacterial diversity increased, including also other Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Among the fungi, Aspergillus spp. and Mucor spp. were predominant after the thermophilic phase. CONCLUSIONS: The microbial abundance, composition and activity changed substantially during composting and compost maturity was correlated with high microbial diversity and low activity. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: A more complete overview of the whole composting process of biowaste, based on microbial counts, species diversity and functional groups and abiotic parameters is presented, and the potential of a simple enzyme assay to measure total microbial activity was demonstrated. 相似文献

Edge structure is one of the principal determinants of the extent and magnitude of edge effects in forest fragments. In central Amazonia, natural succession at forest edges typically produces a dense wall of vegetation dominated by Cecropia spp. that buffers the forest interior. Fire encroachment into forest edges, however, eliminates the soil seed bank, enhances plant mortality, and promotes succession to an open, Vismia–dominated edge that does not buffer the forest interior. Contrasting open, fire–encroached forest edges and closed, non–fire–encroached edges were examined in central Amazonia to assess the effects of edge structure on microclimate and vegetation structure in tropical forest fragments. Edge penetration distances for most microclimate and vegetation structure variables were as much as two to five times greater at open edges than at closed edges. The magnitude of these differences suggests that edge structure is one of the main determinants of microclimate and vegetation structure within tropical forest fragments. Edge effects also varied systematically with fragment area. For a given edge type, 100–ha fragments had consistently lower canopy height, higher foliage density, higher temperature, a higher rate of evaporative drying, lower leaf litter moisture content, and lower litter depth than continuous forest, at all distances from the forest edge. These differences, however, were relatively minor compared to the striking differences in edge penetration between open and closed forest edges. For organisms in small fragments, the difference between open and closed edges may be the difference between total edge encroachment on one hand and an effective nature reserve on the other, relatively independent of absolute fragment area. 相似文献

于2006年在长白山建立了一个面积为5.2 hm2的次生白桦林永久样地,并对样地内的每株树木测量了坐标和胸径.运用混交度、大小比数和角尺度研究了该林分的空间结构.研究表明:该样地的平均混交度值为0.540,平均角尺度值为0.575.次生白桦林总体上处于中度混交水平,先锋树种和针叶树种的混交度高于其他类型的树种;次生演替的先锋树种在生长上处于优势,红松(Pinus koraiensis)、蒙古栎(Quercus mongolica)、水曲柳(Fraxinus mandshurica)等主要树种在该林分中处于劣态个体的比重高于先锋树种,槭属类植物处于劣态;次生白桦林总体上呈聚集分布格局.该林分的空间结构特点与所处的次生演替早期阶段和各个树种在林分中的地位、繁殖方式、更新策略以及采伐干扰等有关. 相似文献

采用样地调查法对秦岭火地塘林区处于中龄阶段的华山松人工林与天然次生林群落特征进行比较研究.结果表明:(1)华山松天然次生林群落有维管束植物38科64属82种,人工林群落有维管束植物30科55属71种,两个群落共有种为53种,相似系数为0.55.(2) 华山松人工林群落灌木层和草本层的Maglef指数、Simpson指数、Shanon-Wiener指数和Pielou均匀度指数与天然次生林群落无显著差异,但人工林乔木层的4个多样性指数显著低于次生林.人工林的4个多样性指数表现为灌木层>草本层>乔木层的规律,天然次生林表现出灌木层>乔木层>草本层的规律.(3)在生活型谱上,人工林与次生林的高位芽、地上芽、地面芽、地下芽和一年生草本的差异均不显著,但是天然次生林的中小高位芽植物比例显著高于人工林,矮高位芽植物相反.(4)在垂直结构上,天然次生林乔木层的树种组成和灌木层的天然更新幼苗量较人工林丰富,两个群落乔木层华山松种群的平均高度以及乔灌草三层的盖度无显著差异.(5)在水平结构上,人工林华山松种群的空间分布格局为均匀分布,胸径一致,为纯林;天然次生林华山松种群空间分布格局为聚集分布,与华椴和锐齿栎等树种水平镶嵌,形成异龄混交林.(6)天然次生林群落的自然构成系数为3.20,顶极树种比例为34.7%,人工林群落的自然构成系数为1.49,顶极树种比例为22.7%,两个群落差异极显著,且天然次生林群落处于先锋群落的中后期阶段,人工林群落尚处于先锋群落的初期阶段.研究表明,经过40年的恢复,两个群落整体上已具有一定程度的相似性,物种组成已比较接近,灌木层和草本层已无显著差异,两者主要差异在乔木层和演替状态上,天然次生林乔木层树种丰富,群落演替速度较人工林快. 相似文献

为探究神木垒不同森林群落林下植物多样性的差异,本研究采用典型样地法,以夹金山神木垒的5种主要森林群落:云杉林、丽江云杉林、红杉林、针阔混交林、阔叶林为研究对象,对不同森林群落林下植物物种组成和物种多样性进行比较,并对林分因子和林下植物多样性进行冗余分析,确定影响林下植物多样性的主要林分因子,为当地森林经营管理提供理论依据。结果表明:(1)在研究区内共记录林下植物147种,隶属于61科,108属;云杉林群落林下植物的科属种组成最丰富。(2)各类型群落的H值、H"值、D值、JSW值均为:草本层>灌木层;灌木层多样性最高的群落为云杉林群落,草本层多样性最高的群落为丽江云杉林群落,针阔混交林群落、阔叶林群落林下植物多样性较差。(3)平均枝下高与林分密度是影响灌木层物种多样性的主要林分因子(P<0.01),平均枝下高与灌木层的D值、H值、H"值呈负相关关系,林分密度与灌木层4个多样性指数均呈正相关关系;平均枝下高是影响草本层物种多样性的主要林分因子(P<0.01),平均枝下高与草本层H值、H"值、JSW值呈正相关关系。本研究认为,云杉林群落与丽江云杉林群落的林下植物多样性水平较高,平均枝下高与林分密度是影响神木垒不同森林群落林下植物多样性的主要林分因子。 相似文献

Knowledge of the recovery of insect communities after forest disturbance in tropical Africa is very limited. Here, fruit‐feeding butterflies in a tropical rain forest at Kibale National Park, Uganda, were used as a model system to uncover how, and how fast, insect communities recover after forest disturbance. We trapped butterflies monthly along a successional gradient for one year. Traps were placed in intact primary forest compartments, heavily logged forest compartments with and without arboricide treatment approximately 43 years ago, and in conifer‐clearcut compartments, ranging from 9 to 19 years of age. The species richness, total abundance, diversity, dominance, and similarity of the community composition of butterflies in the eight compartments were compared with uni‐ and multivariate statistics. A total of 16,728 individuals representing 88 species were trapped during the study. Butterfly species richness, abundance, and diversity did not show an increasing trend along the successional gradient but species richness and abundance peaked at intermediate stages. There was monthly variation in species richness, abundance, diversity and composition. Butterfly community structure differed significantly among the eight successional stages and only a marginal directional change along the successional gradient emerged. The greatest number of indicator species and intact forest interior specialists were found in one of the primary forests. Our results show that forest disturbance has a long‐term impact on the recovery of butterfly species composition, emphasizing the value of intact primary forests for butterfly conservation. 相似文献

The use of lettuce brine, a by-product of the vegetable fermentation industry, as a medium for yeast cultivation was investigated.
Six strains of yeast, Saccharomyces sp., Pichia sp., Rhodotorula sp., Candida sp., Kluyveromyces sp. and Trichospora sp. grew well in diluted lettuce brine under aerobic conditions. The acid brine becomes neutral after yeast cultivation.
The yeast strains reached the maximum growth after the first day of cultivation. Trichosporon sp. was found to grow best in the brine with the maximum specific growth rate at 0.09 h−1 and growth yield of 67%.
