Adult mosquitoes, Anopheles gambiae Giles and Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae), were exposed for 3 min to replicate samples of polyester netting cut from replicate bednets treated with pyrethroid insecticide formulations at the recommended concentration (alphacypermethrin SC at 40mg ai/m2; cyfluthrin EW at 50 mg ai/m2; deltamethrin WT at 25 mg ai/m2), or treated with only a quarter of those dosages. After 4 months domestic use of the bednets in Malawi, chemical assays showed that pyrethroid deposits on the netting were somewhat less than the target concentrations. Comparing the pyrethroid bioassay results with Anopheles at both treatment concentrations, deltamethrin gave significantly higher mortality (99.7-100%) than the other compounds (alphacypermethrin 94-96%, cyfluthrin 80-89%). Culex bioassay mortality was lower (alphacypermethrin 56-74%; cyfluthrin 63-65%; deltamethrin 50-81 %) and results with the three pyrethroid insecticides at their recommended doses did not differ significantly.  相似文献

It was shown that microscopic fungi isolated in plague foci had an antagonistic effect on the plague causative agent. In the majority of the cases it was associated with their insecticidal activity against plague-transmitting fleas. It is expedient to consider the relations revealed between the burrow biocenosis components in investigation of plague enzootic aspects and development of new biological insecticides for control of the infection carriers.  相似文献

Summary Properties of calf thymus DNA were investigated after treatment with the pesticides malathion (0,0-dimethyl-S-(1,2-bis ethoxycarbonyl ethyl)dithiophosphate) and DDVP (0,0-dimethyl-0-(2,2 dichlorovinyl)phosphate) in vitro by means of derivative (differential) pulse polarography (DPP), thermal denaturation curves recorded spectrophotometrically (Tm), viscometric measurements, and chromatography on the hydroxyapatite column. Changes in the properties of DNA were observed by means of DPP after only a few hours incubation with the pesticides, whereas the other methods did not detect any changes even after 48 h. The results obtained by DPP indicate that single-stranded segments and thermolabile regions are formed in DNA due to the action of the pesticides. This behaviour could perhaps be a consequence of guanine alkylation followed by depurination and chain scission at elevated temperatures. Malathion and DDVP differ in the kinetics of reaction with double-helical DNA. DDVP is more reactive and its action is also manifested after 72 h in changes in viscosity, Tm, and chromatographic behaviour on the hydroxyapatite column. The changes induced by malathion were, under identical conditions, not detectable by these methods.  相似文献

The Cry toxins are a family of crystal-forming proteins produced by the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis. Their mode of action is thought to be to create pores that disrupt the gut epithelial membranes of juvenile insects. These pores allow pathogen entry into the hemocoel, thereby killing the insect. Genes encoding a spectrum of Cry toxins, including Cry mutants, Cry chimaeras and other Cry derivatives, are used commercially to enhance insect resistance in genetically modified (GM) crops. In most countries of the world, such GM crops are regulated and must be assessed for human and environmental safety. However, such risk assessments often do not test the GM crop or its tissues directly. Instead, assessments rely primarily on historical information from naturally occurring Cry proteins and on data collected on Cry proteins (called ‘surrogates’) purified from laboratory strains of bacteria engineered to express Cry protein. However, neither surrogates nor naturally occurring Cry proteins are identical to the proteins to which humans or other nontarget organisms are exposed by the production and consumption of GM plants. To-date there has been no systematic survey of these differences. This review fills this knowledge gap with respect to the most commonly grown GM Cry-containing crops approved for international use. Having described the specific differences between natural, surrogate and GM Cry proteins this review assesses these differences for their potential to undermine the reliability of risk assessments. Lastly, we make specific recommendations for improving risk assessments.  相似文献

From data obtained by differential scanning calorimetry phase diagrams were constructed, using a thermodynamically based fitting method. The following binary mixtures of phosphatidylcholines in water were studied: 14:0/14:0-glycerophosphocholine/16:0/16:0-glucerophosphocholine, 14:0/14:0-glycerophosphocholine/18:0/18:0-glycerophosphocholine, 12:0/12:0-glycerophosphocholine/16:0/16:0-glycerophosphocholine, 18:1t/18:1t-glycerophosphocholine/14:0/14:0-glycerophosphocholine and 18:1t/18:1t-glycerophosphocholine/16:0/16:0-glycerophosphocholine. A comparison is made of the present results with those obtained using probe techniques and the differences are discussed.  相似文献

We have studied the properties of mixtures of cholesterol with dioleoylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC), and with several other phospholipids, including 1-stearoyl-2-oleoylphosphatidylcholine (SOPC) and dioleoleoylphosphatidylserine (DOPS), as a function of cholesterol molar fraction and of temperature. Mixtures of DOPC with a cholesterol molar fraction of 0.4 or greater display polymorphic behavior. This polymorphism includes the formation of structures that give rise to isotropic peaks in 31P NMR at cholesterol molar fractions between 0.4 and 0.6, dependent on the thermal history of the sample. Cryo-electron microscopy studies demonstrate the formation of small globular aggregates that would contribute to a narrowing of the 31P NMR powder pattern.At molar fraction cholesterol 0.6 and higher and at temperatures above 70 °C, the mixtures with DOPC convert to the hexagonal phase. Lipid polymorphism is accompanied by the phase separation of cholesterol crystals in the anhydrous form and/or the monohydrate form. The crystals that are formed have substantially altered kinetics of hydration and dehydration, compared with both pure cholesterol monohydrate crystals and with crystals formed in the presence of the other phospholipids that do not form the hexagonal phase in the presence of cholesterol. This fact demonstrates that these cholesterol crystals are in intimate contact with the DOPC phospholipid and are not present as morphologically separate structures.  相似文献

The immunological properties of the proteinaceous component of the parasporal crystal (δ-endotoxin) of Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki were analyzed by rocket immunoelectrophoresis. Two antisera, one against the k-l-type crystal containing two components, and the other against the k-73-type crystal containing one component, were made in rabbits. The antigens consisting of purified and dissociated crystals were run in electrophoresis with these two antisera. The ratio between the two peak heights of precipitin lines, which were formed by the dissociated crystal of one B. thuringiensis isolate in two antisera, was compared with the ratios of other isolates under identical conditions. The difference in the ratio reflected a difference in the structure of the crystal component and correlated closely with the insecticidal activity spectrum. This method can be used to evaluate a newly isolated B. thuringiensis, and it can further differentiate the isolates which have been classified as one serotype.  相似文献
