Freshwater ecosystems are among those most affected by human activity. Constructing artificial reservoirs can change freshwater biodiversity, thereby impacting genetic diversity (GD), which is crucial to population-level adaptation. The Maipo River basin, inhabited by the endemic silverside Basilichthys microlepidotus, is one of Chile's most impacted freshwater systems. In this basin, the species is divided into five populations. Recently, a new population was discovered in the reservoir Laguna Esmeralda (LE). We hypothesized that LE silversides possess less GD than other populations and originated from a single basin population. Our evidence shows that the LE is a genetically isolated population with evidence of low genetic variation, but not showing signals of bottleneck or significant reduction in GD. Results consistently identified two sites as unlikely to be the origin of the LE silverside population, suggesting that it was established by the immigration of many individuals from the other three populations. 相似文献

The distribution of spatial genetic variation across a region can shape evolutionary dynamics and impact population persistence. Local population dynamics and among‐population dispersal rates are strong drivers of this spatial genetic variation, yet for many species we lack a clear understanding of how these population processes interact in space to shape within‐species genetic variation. Here, we used extensive genetic and demographic data from 10 subpopulations of greater sage‐grouse to parameterize a simulated approximate Bayesian computation (ABC) model and (i) test for regional differences in population density and dispersal rates for greater sage‐grouse subpopulations in Wyoming, and (ii) quantify how these differences impact subpopulation regional influence on genetic variation. We found a close match between observed and simulated data under our parameterized model and strong variation in density and dispersal rates across Wyoming. Sensitivity analyses suggested that changes in dispersal (via landscape resistance) had a greater influence on regional differentiation, whereas changes in density had a greater influence on mean diversity across all subpopulations. Local subpopulations, however, varied in their regional influence on genetic variation. Decreases in the size and dispersal rates of central populations with low overall and net immigration (i.e. population sources) had the greatest negative impact on genetic variation. Overall, our results provide insight into the interactions among demography, dispersal and genetic variation and highlight the potential of ABC to disentangle the complexity of regional population dynamics and project the genetic impact of changing conditions. 相似文献

Willow (Salix spp.) short‐rotation coppice is commercially grown to produce lignocellulosic biomass to meet renewable bioenergy demands. Most commercial willow coppices are grown in stands of a single genotype, but biomass productivity may be greater in mixed communities, and the productivity in mixed communities may depend on the specific genotypes involved. We assessed the biomass production of four different Salix genotypes (“Björn,” “Jorr,” “Loden,” “Tora”) grown without additional nutrient fertilization during one cutting cycle at three locations in Europe (Uppsala in Sweden, Rostock and Freiburg in Germany) in plots of pure and mixed communities. We evaluated (i) the effect of genotype diversity on shoot biomass productivity, including the evidence for complementarity and selection effects; (ii) the influence of individual genotypes on mixed community productivity; and (iii) the productivity of individual genotypes in response to pure vs. mixed culture. Mean shoot biomass production after the first cutting cycle decreased in the order Rostock (8.7 Mg ha?1) > Freiburg (6.9 Mg ha?1) > Uppsala (5.7 Mg ha?1), with values similar to those for other nonfertilized willow stands after the first growth cycle. Consistently across all three locations, increasing genotype diversity did not significantly affect shoot biomass production. Using Bayesian statistics, the addition of the genotypes “Jorr” and “Loden” was predicted to enhance shoot biomass production, while “Tora” and “Björn” are more likely to reduce shoot biomass production in mixed communities. In addition, we found evidence for a negative selection effect due to the genotype “Tora” performing better in mixed than in pure communities in two of the sites (Freiburg, Uppsala). In conclusion, our results imply that increasing genetic richness has no negative effect on productivity and that there is a potential to design site‐specific genotype mixtures of short‐rotation coppice promoting both high genetic diversity and high biomass production. 相似文献

Dispersal of organisms can influence the relationship between beta‐diversity and regional productivity in heterogeneous environments. However, many ecosystems are also linked by fluxes of stressors, with an unknown influence on this relationship. In this study, we assess the relationship between beta‐diversity (measured as Bray–Curtis dissimilarity) and regional productivity (measured as biovolume) under various levels of a stressor flux in meta‐ecosystems that were composed of two marine micro‐algae communities. We created heterogeneity by exposing one of the two communities to a herbicide and manipulated regional diversity by applying a dispersal gradient, which decreased beta‐diversity. We applied four stressor flux levels, which homogenized the herbicide concentration between the communities over time. The stressor flux changed the relationship between beta‐diversity and regional productivity by changing the effect of dispersal on regional productivity. In absence of the stressor flux, the relationship between beta‐diversity and regional productivity was mostly not significant, but positive at the end of the experiment. This positive relationship was generated by a negative effect of dispersal on regional productivity, probably because dispersal disrupted local dynamics by removing organisms from the most‐productive unstressed community. In presence of the stressor flux, the relationship between beta‐diversity and regional productivity was often negative as dispersal now increased regional productivity. Dispersal increased regional productivity by increasing the productivity of the stressed community. This positive effect was stronger in the presence than in the absence of the stressor flux because the stressor flux reduced the concentration of the herbicide in the stressed community, where it facilitated recovery. Our study shows that stressor fluxes can strongly interact with the effects of dispersal on productivity and thus influence diversity–productivity relationships. 相似文献

- Field margin vegetation provides resources for natural enemies of crop herbivores. Thus, the design of plant mixtures improving resource provisioning is being discussed increasingly with respect to improving herbivore control.
- We set up a field experiment to assess the effect of (i) a wildflower strip optimized for nectar provisioning; (ii) a grass strip and (iii) spontaneous vegetation on herbivore regulation in oilseed rape and wheat. We also analyzed the attractiveness of plant species to natural enemies.
- The cover of flowering entomophilous plant species as a proxy of floral resource provisioning was twice as high in wildflower strips compared with the other strip treatments. Natural enemy densities were higher within and close to wildflower strips in the field. A corresponding effect on aphid predation and aphid infestation was observed. Significant negative correlations between natural enemy abundance in the margin and aphid infestation in the fields supported a causal relationship. The sown wildflower strip species were more attractive to natural enemies than spontaneous vegetation.
- The results of the present study demonstrate that improved nectar provisioning increased the predation and parasitism of crop herbivores. Further research on the spatio‐temporal dynamics of interactions is needed to determine why not all crop herbivores respond to an increase of natural enemies in field margins.

We used inter-simple sequence repeat fingerprinting to analyze the genetic structure of 16 populations of Stentor coeruleus from three lakes and three ponds in China. Using 14 polymorphic primers, a total of 99 discernible DNA fragments were detected, among which 76 (76.77%) were polymorphic, indicating median genetic diversity in these populations. Further, both Nei's gene diversity (h) and Shannon's information index (I) between the different populations revealed a median genetic diversity. At the same time, gene flow was interpreted to be low. The main factors responsible for the median level of diversity and low gene flow within populations are probably due to a low frequency of sexual recombinations. Analysis of molecular variance showed that there was high genetic differentiation among the five water bodies. Both cluster analysis and a nonmetric multidimensional scaling analysis suggested that genotypes isolated from the same locations displayed a higher genetic similarity than those from different ones, separating populations into subgroups according to their geographical locations. However, there is a weak positive correlation between the genetic distance and geographical distance. 相似文献

应用RAPD技术检测了多叶重楼(Paris polyphyfzo)2个变种4个居群的遗传多样性,并与1个凌云重楼(P.cronquistii)居群进行了比较。选择的16个随机引物在5个居群中共检测到246个多态位点。在居群水平上,滇重楼2个居群的多态位点百分比(PP鳓分别为57.43%和54.67%,Shannon指数分别为0.3080和0.2830;七叶一枝花2个居群的PPB分别为56.33%和57.75%,Shannon指数分别为0、3080和0.3293。在变种水平上,滇重楼的PPB为75.14%,Shannon指数为0.3922,遗传分化系数(Gst)为0.3085;七叶一枝花的PPB为80.31%,Shannon指数为0.3992,遗传分化系数(Gst)为0.3726;在种的水平PPB达92.05%,遗传分化系数Gst达0.5151。聚类分析显示滇重楼和七叶一枝花有较近的亲缘关系,而与凌云重楼遗传距离较远。此结果从分子水平上支持了过去将滇重楼和七叶一枝花划分为1个种下2个变种的形态分类观点。 相似文献

- The mango seed weevil Sternochetus mangiferae (Fabricius) is distributed across the major mango-producing areas of the world and causes significant economic losses of mango fruit. Despite its importance as a crop pest, we have only limited information on the population genetics of the mango seed weevil.
- Here, we examined the genetic diversity of this important pest using specimens intercepted by Beijing Customs District P. R. in China from 41 countries and regions. We used segments of the mitochondrial gene cytochrome c oxidase subunit I and the nuclear gene elongation factor 1-alpha to examine population genetic structure in this species.
- Our results showed that genetic diversity is low in S. mangiferae, with a mean genetic distance of 0.095–0.14%. Other population genetic parameters also indicated a low level of genetic diversity among samples from a large geographic range. Analysis of molecular variance revealed little population genetic structure, and mismatch distribution analyses provided evidence of a population expansion, although other demographic metrics of population expansion were nonsignificant.
- We suggest that the observed low level of genetic diversity and population genetic structure in S. mangiferae supports the hypothesis that the population genetics of this species has been impacted by anthropogenic transportation of mangoes and weevils.

Understanding existing levels of genetic variability of camel populations is capital for conservation activities. This study aims to provide information on the genetic diversity of four dromedary populations, including Guerzni, Harcha, Khouari and Marmouri. Blood samples from 227 individuals belonging to the aforementioned populations were obtained and genotyped by 16 microsatellite markers. A total of 215 alleles were observed, with the mean number of alleles per locus being 13.4 ± 6.26. All loci were polymorphic in the studied populations. The average expected heterozygosity varied from a maximum of 0.748 ± 0.122 in Guerzni population to a minimum of 0.702 ± 0.128 in Harcha population; Guerzni population showed the highest value of observed heterozygosity (0.699 ± 0.088), whereas Harcha population the lowest (0.646 ± 0.130). Mean estimates of F-statistics obtained over loci were FIS = 0.0726, FIT = 0.0876 and FST = 0.0162. The lowest genetic distance was obtained between Guerzni and Khouari (0.023), and the highest genetic distance between Harcha and Marmouri (0.251). The neighbour-joining phylogenetic tree showed two groups of populations indicating a cluster of Guerzni, Khouari and Marmouri, and a clear isolation of Harcha. The genetic distances, the factorial correspondence analysis, the analysis of genetic structure and the phylogenetic tree between populations revealed significant differences between Harcha and other populations, and a high similarity between Guerzni, Khouari and Marmouri. It is concluded from this study that the camel genetic resources studied are well diversified. However, the herd management, especially the random selection of breeding animals, can increase the level of genetic mixing between different populations, mainly among Guerzni, Khouari and Marmouri, that live in the same habitat and grazing area. 相似文献

Distribution margins constitute areas particularly prone to random and/or adaptive intraspecific differentiation in plants. This trend may be particularly marked in species discontinuously distributed across mountain ranges, where sharp geographic isolation gradients and habitat boundaries will enhance genetic isolation among populations. In this study, we analysed the level of neutral genetic differentiation among populations of the long-lived shrub Daphne laureola (Thymelaeaceae) across the Baetic Ranges, a glacial refugium and biodiversity hotspot in the western Mediterranean Basin. Within this area, core and marginal populations of D. laureola were compared with regard to their spatial isolation, size, genetic diversity and differentiation. A spatially explicit analysis conducted on the vast majority of the species' known populations in the study area (N = 111) showed that marginal populations (western and eastern) present larger spatial isolation than core populations, but are not smaller. We compared genetic diversity and differentiation between core and marginal populations using a subsample of 15 populations and 225 amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers. Core and marginal populations did not differ in genetic diversity, probably because of the occurrence of large populations on the local margins. Western populations were strongly differentiated from the other populations. In addition, spatial and genetic differentiation among populations was larger on the western margin. Eastern populations constituted a genetically homogeneous group closely related to core populations, despite their greater spatial isolation. Results suggest that studies on phenotypic differentiation between core and marginal populations of D. laureola, and presumably other species having discontinuous distributions across the Baetic ranges, should take into account geographical differences in levels of genetic differentiation between the different distribution borders. 相似文献

Microsatellite markers are quite popular due to their degree of polymorphism and efficiency; however, the utility of such markers for analysing allotetraploid species is often hampered by an inability to determine allele copy number for partial heterozygotes. tetrasat is a program that uses an iterative substitution process to account for all probable combinations of allele copy numbers in populations with partial heterozygote samples. The program subsequently calculates allele frequencies, and mean Hardy–Weinberg expected heterozygosity (HE), Shannon–Weiner Diversity Index (H′) and Nei's measure of population differentiation (GST) are reported for each locus and population. Of equal importance is the calculation of statistical variability generated by the missing data and allele substitution process, which allows for assessment of the strength of conclusions drawn from the statistics. 相似文献

The species–area relationship (SAR) constitutes one of the most general ecological patterns globally. A number of different SAR models have been proposed. Recent work has shown that no single model universally provides the best fit to empirical SAR datasets: multiple models may be of practical and theoretical interest. However, there are no software packages available that a) allow users to fit the full range of published SAR models, or b) provide functions to undertake a range of additional SAR‐related analyses. To address these needs, we have developed the R package ‘sars’ that provides a wide variety of SAR‐related functionality. The package provides functions to: a) fit 20 SAR models using non‐linear and linear regression, b) calculate multi‐model averaged curves using various information criteria, and c) generate confidence intervals using bootstrapping. Plotting functions allow users to depict and scrutinize the fits of individual models and multi‐model averaged curves. The package also provides additional SAR functionality, including functions to fit, plot and evaluate the random placement model using a species–sites abundance matrix, and to fit the general dynamic model of oceanic island biogeography. The ‘sars’ R package will aid future SAR research by providing a comprehensive set of simple to use tools that enable in‐depth exploration of SARs and SAR‐related patterns. The package has been designed to allow other researchers to add new functions and models in the future and thus the package represents a resource for future SAR work that can be built on and expanded by workers in the field. 相似文献

Genetic diversity and population differentiation of Viola tenuicornis W. Beck. were studied in nine populations in Beijing using horizontal starch gel electrophoresis. Allozyme data for 11 loci of 8 enzymes indicated high level of genetic variability in this region with P=72.7%, A=2.4 and H e=0.243. In contrast, the population differentiation was lower than the average of other perennial herb with F st=0.196. It was found that distances among populations had little effect on population differentiation. A sample of 30 individuals could well represent a population, but less than 20 individuals per population might lead to significant bias in the estimation of genetic parameters, in particular the values of A and H e. 相似文献

利用聚丙烯酰胺凝胶电泳技术研究了我国蒙古羊、乌珠穆沁羊、哈萨克羊、阿勒泰羊、滩羊和藏绵羊 6个地方绵羊品种 17个微卫星标记的多态性 ,以探讨其遗传多样性、起源分化及群体间的遗传亲缘关系。结果表明微卫星标记不同位点间遗传多样性差异极显著 (P <0 0 1) ,群体间多态信息含量 (PIC)、近交程度 (Fis)和观察杂合度 (Obs .Het)差异不显著 ,但基因多样性 (genediversity)和期望杂合度 (Exp .Het)差异显著 (P <0 0 5 )。所研究的我国 6个地方绵羊品种与欧洲品种具有相似的遗传多样性 ,但具有较高的近交系数。个体和群体的聚类分析结果提示我国地方绵羊品种可能起源于两类祖先。群体间的聚类分析结果还表明 ,蒙古羊与乌珠穆沁羊分化不明显且具有较近的遗传亲缘关系 ,蒙古羊与藏绵羊间分化明显且具有较远的遗传亲缘关系。滩羊、阿勒泰羊以及藏绵羊间也具有较近的遗传亲缘关系。所研究的我国 6个地方绵羊品种的遗传分化 (Fst)与西班牙绵羊品种接近 ,但明显小于欧洲其他绵羊品种 相似文献
