Four ODP sites located between 64°S and 41°S in the eastern Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean were investigated to refine the Miocene diatom biostratigraphic zonation tied to the geomagnetic chronology. The Miocene diatom stratigraphy from two sites located on Maud Rise (ODP Leg 113) is revised considering the progress in diatom biostratigraphic research, diatom taxonomy and magnetostratigraphic age assignment during the past 10 years. A new diatom zonation was erected for Site 1092 (ODP Leg 177) located on Meteor Rise integrating a magnetostratigraphic interpretation of the shipboard data. This zonation was also applied to Site 1088 (ODP Leg 177) located on Astrid Ridge. The study is focused to Middle and Upper Miocene sequences. It reveals latitudinal differentiations in stratigraphic species ranges and species occurrence pattern that are related to latitudinal differences in surface water masses reflecting the climatic development of the Antarctic cryosphere. Considering the latitudinal differences two stratigraphic zonations are proposed that are applicable to the northern and southern zone of the Southern Ocean, respectively. The southern Southern Ocean Miocene diatom biostratigraphic zonation consists of 16 zones in which 11 represent new or modified zones. The northern biostratigraphic zonation contains 10 diatom zones allowing a stratigraphic resolution in the range of 0.2–2 Myr. This paper also includes the taxonomic transfer of seven Miocene diatom taxa from genus Nitzschia Hassal to Fragilariopsis Hustedt. 相似文献

Retrotapes andrillorum sp. nov., Hiatella cf. arctica (Linnaeus, 1767), ?Yoldia sp. (internal mould) and six taxa of Pectinidae are reported from the Burdigalian section of the ANDRILL 2A core, drilled in McMurdo Sound, Ross Sea. The pectinids are Adamussium cf. jonkersi Quaglio et al., 2010, Antarctipecten gen. nov. alanbeui (Jonkers, 2003), Austrochlamys forticosta sp. nov., Austrochlamys cf. marisrossensis Jonkers, 2003, Ruthipecten gen. nov., sp. nov. (not named) and a fragmentary specimen representing an unnamed genus and species. In a revision of Antarctic Pectinidae, Austrochlamys Jonkers, 2003, Ruthipecten gen. nov. (proposed for Chlamys (Zygochlamys) tuftsensis Turner, 1967, reported only from Wright Valley and the Vestfold Hills, not present in ANDRILL 2A), Leoclunipecten gen. nov. (proposed for Austrochlamys gazdzickii Jonkers, 2003, reported only from Oligocene rocks of King George Island, not present in ANDRILL 2A) and the unnamed genus in ANDRILL 2A are assigned to subfamily Chlamydinae, tribe Chlamydini, whereas Adamussium Thiele, 1934 and Antarctipecten gen. nov. are assigned to subfamily Palliolinae, tribe Adamussiini. The diverse Pectinidae in ANDRILL 2A suggest sea temperatures roughly 5°C warmer than at present in the Ross Sea during Early Miocene time. 相似文献

New earthworm samples from Cyprus are assessed and discussed. A re-evaluation of specimens previously relegated to the Southern Alpine species Perelia nematogena (Rosa, 1903), revealed two independent species: Perelia phoebea (Cognetti, 1913) ,described originally from Rhodes Island, (Greece) and an undescribed species Perelia makrisi sp. n. The Miocene oscillation is a second order interruption of Cainozoic cooling and falling sea level with a time of warming and relatively high sea level at its zenith, the Miocene climatic optimum. The second order trajectories in putative global sea level, in oceanic δ 18O (a proxy for climate change) and δ 13C (a proxy for major change in nutrient regime), are punctuated by third order changes, including the Mi glacials. Southern‐temperate foraminiferal assemblages provide a profile of neritic biofacies through the oscillation. Plankton and benthos fit the second order and third order scenarios well: there are numerous resonances from the global ocean in this regional neritic realm. The cycle TB2 is a biofacies entity as well as a physical entity, and so too are most of its third order components. The influence of the Monterey carbon excursion and the climatic optimum are visible in this biotic succession. We corroborate the prediction that a trophic resource continuum expands in a warming and transgressive trend and, at the same time, responding more strongly to environmental fluctuations. We cannot corroborate the notion of coherent biofacies recurring through the succession as the environment shifts from warming to upwelling and back. There is a strong sense of a community “evolving”; through time whilst spreading and adapting ad hoc to the shifts in physical environment, rather than of discrete communities tracking those shifts. 相似文献

Material of Hispanomys (Rodentia, Cricetodontinae) is described from various localities at Batallones (MN10) (Madrid, Spain). All of it belongs to a single species, which differs from the other known species of the genus and a new taxon, Hispanomys moralesi sp. nov. , is created for it. The samples from the various localities show differences interpreted as being the result of slight age disparities amongst the different sites. Although they were previously thought to be coeval, Batallones 10 is probably older than Batallones 1, which is possibly older than Batallones 3. Hispanomys moralesi sp. nov. is characterized by several morphological features such as the lack of cingula and mesolophs, the presence of well‐developed ectolophs, four‐ or five‐rooted M1, short or absent mesolophids, and reduced and simplified M3. The phylogenetic relationships of the caryophyllidia-bearing dorids are studied, based on the examination of the type species of all the genera previously described. The phylogenetic hypothesis supports that the caryophyllidia-bearing dorids are a monophyletic group and the sister group of the clade formed by Astemnotus Ehrenberg, 1831 and Halgerda Bergh, 1880. Several genera previously considered as valid or regarded as uncertain are here synonymized: Peronodoris Bergh, 1904, Trippa Bergh, 1877, Phlegmodoris Bergh, 1878, Petelodoris Bergh, 1881, Kentrodoris Bergh, 1876, Audura Bergh, 1878, Centrodoris P. Fischer, 1883, Anisodoris Bergh, 1898, Awuka Er. Marcus, 1955, Rhabdochiia P. Fischer, 1883, Boreodoris Odhner, 1939, Dictyodoris Bergh, 1880, Gravieria Vayssiere, 1912, Aporodoris Ihering, 1886. The following genera are regarded as valid: Astemnotus, Atagema J.E. Gray, 1850, Jorunna Bergh, 1876, Platydoris Bergh, 1877, Diaulula Bergh, 1878, Rostanga Bergh, 1879, Halgerda Bergh, 1880, Baptodoris Bergh, 1884, Gargamella Bergh, 1894, Alloiodoris Bergh, 1904, Sclerodoris Eliot, 1904, Taringa Er. The genus Rimosodaphnella Cossmann, 1916 was proposed for Murex textile Brocchi, 1814, a European Miocene–Pliocene species, and is sometimes thought to be represented in the recent fauna by three Atlantic species. Here, we assign only one Atlantic species, Pleurotoma (Drillia) morra Dall, 1881 distributed from North Carolina to Southern Brazil, to the genus and introduce three new species of Rimosodaphnella from the Indo-Pacific region. One, Rimosodaphnella solomonensis, n. sp. from the Solomon Islands, while two others, Rimosodaphnella tenuipurpurata n. sp. and Rimosodaphnella brunneolineata n. sp., from the Philippines Islands; these findings suggest that the genus may be well represented in the Indo-Pacific region.http://zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pubBD6E8AA4-445C-43A5-8171-65A7CE8BA20B 相似文献

Until recently, all papillated specimens of Pareledone were ascribed to the species Pareledone charcoti (Joubin, 1905), of which P. aurorae (Berry, 1917) was considered a junior synonym. Re-examination of the papillated type material of Pareledone, coupled with extensive fishing over several years off the Antarctic Peninsula, has led to a revision of this position. Seven new species of papillated Pareledone are identified from the Antarctic Peninsula region. They are identified by subtle taxonomic characters, such as the morphology and placement of their papillae, although traditional indices often fail to separate the species. Whilst apparently sympatric, there is some evidence of niche separation of these species with respect to depth. The phylogenetic relationships of the cryptobranch dorids are studied based on morphological characters of species belonging to all previously described genera. The phylogenetic hypothesis supports the cryptobranch dorids as a monophyletic group. There are two major clades within the Cryptobranchia: the radula‐less dorids (Porostomata), and the radula‐bearing dorids ( Labiostomata new taxon ). Labiostomata consists of those taxa sharing a more recent common ancestor with Actinocyclus than with Mandelia, and includes several monophyletic groups: Actinocyclidae, Chromodorididae, Dorididae and Discodorididae. The traditional group Phanerobranchia is probably paraphyletic. The new classification proposed for the Cryptobranchia addresses concepts of phylogenetic nomenclature, but is in accordance with the rules of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. The following genera of cryptobranch dorids are regarded as valid: Doris Linnaeus, 1758, Asteronotus Ehrenberg, 1831, Atagema J. E. AbstractThe Neogene Fortuna Basin (Murcia Region, SE Spain) is rich in microvertebrate sites. Its continental sections include localities extended from the middle Turolian (MN12) to the early Ruscinian (MN14). However, there are few works dealing with the taxonomy of these fossil assemblages. In this paper we provide a complete taxonomic study of the rodents and insectivores from three levels (ROM-2B, ROM-2C and ROM-3A) within the Romerales section. We infer a late Turolian age (late Messinian) for these levels, among which the richest and most diverse level is ROM-C, including at least 11 different taxa. In addition, the paleoecological analysis of these fossil assemblages suggests the dominance of open herbaceous meadows under temperate climate during the formation of these sites, with a slight decrease in temperature and humidity from ROM-2B to ROM-2C. 相似文献

Jamaican Urocoptidae can be assigned to three subfamilies, the Urocoptinae Pilsbry 1902, Apominae Paul 1982 and Microceraminae Pilsbry 1902, on shell and anatomical characters. Urocoptinae are characterized by a cylindrical or conical decollate shell; genitalia with an elongate spermatheca and no penial retractor muscle; the left ocular retractor arising from the pharyngeal retractor and both oculars divided anteriorly; a short or long radula (L/W ≏ 5 or ≏ 10) with V-shaped rows of teeth, no marginals and the mesocones and ectocones of laterals widely separated in alternating rows; and include the genera Urocoptis Beck, Anoma Albers and Spirostemma Pilsbry & Vanatta. The Apominae are characterized by elongate-cylindrical decollate shells; genitalia with a globular spermatheca and a penial retractor muscle; both ocular retractors arising from the pharyngeal and both divided anteriorly; an extremely long radula (L/W= 25–45) with narrow, weakly-lobed centrals flanked by two enormous laterals with ectocones reduced or absent, and 4–9 marginals; and include the genera Apoma Beck, Mychostoma Albers, Geoscala Pilsbry & Vanatta and Simplicervix Pilsbry. The type species of the type genera of both subfamilies occur in Jamaica and their anatomy is described. Jamaican Microceraminae include one species, Microceramus gossei (Pfeiffer) which has a conical, entire shell; genitalia with an oval spermatheca and no penial retractor muscle; neither ocular retractor arising from the pharyngeal and neither branched anteriorly; a short radula (L/W ≏ 5) with straight rows of lateral teeth and no marginals. Cladistic analysis suggests that Microceramus is the most primitive genus; that within the Urocoptinae Anoma and Spirostemma are more closely related to each other than either is to Urocoptis ; and that within the Apominae, Apoma is less closely related to Mychostoma, Geoscala and Simplicervix than they are to each other. 相似文献

The cheek teeth of Debruijnia kostakii n. sp. from the Early Miocene of Karydia are only slightly smaller than those of the largest extant species of the Spalacinae (Spalax giganteus), but show characteristics that are reminiscent of its Paleogene cricetid ancestor. The peculiar combination of large size and primitive dental morphology of this species bridges the gap between Debruijnia and Pliospalax and thereby supports the hypothesis that these genera form the core of the complex evolutionary history leading to extant Spalax. 相似文献

Early ontogenetic shells of 25 species of brackish water and freshwater molluscs from the Ottnangian (Lower Miocene) Oncophora Beds (Lower Bavaria, South Germany) and Kirchberg Formation (Upper Bavaria, South Germany) are described for the first time. Taxonomic implications are discussed. The investigated bivalves (Cardiidae and Dreissenidae) were characterised by an indirect development with inclusion of a planktonic veliger stage. Among the gastropods only three species of the genus CtyrokiaSchlickum, 1965 were characterised by veliger larvae, all the other gastropod species were direct developers, which hatched as crawling young. The species Agapilia schlickumi nov. sp. (Neritidae), Nematurella pseudozilchi nov. sp. and Nematurella strauchi nov. sp. (Hydrobiidae) are introduced. Our study revealed the co-occurrence of 10 molluscan species in the Oncophora Basin of Lower Bavaria and the Kirchberg Basin of Upper Bavaria and thus indicates similar oligohaline to mesohaline coastal swamp milieus for both depositional environments. The presence of planktonic larval development in gastropods indicates a connection to the open sea. 相似文献

ABSTRACTA new species of Marginellopsis Bavay, 1911, Marginellopsis herosae n. sp. and two new species of Granulina Jousseaume, 1888, Granulina morassii n. sp. and Granulina boyeri n. sp. are described and illustrated from the Red Sea and Djibouti. Marginellopsis herosae n.sp. represents the first Indo-Pacific record of a genus previously known by only one species from Cuba, Caribbean Sea. The biogeographic relevance of this finding and the possible Tethyan origin of the genus Marginellopsis is suggested. Micrographs of the type specimens of Granulina isseli (G. Nevill & H. The gastropod families Onchidiidae, Vaginulidae, Rathouisiidae and Rhodopidae have been classified in a subclass Gymnomorpha, in which the genus Smeagol has been more recently included, on the basis of characters related with limacization which should not be used for classification at suprafamilial levels. When only characters not related with limacization are taken into account, the onchidiids are very similar to the ellobiids; Smeagol may be considered an otinid slug; vaginulids and rathouisiids form a monophyletic group of pulmonates, the Rathouisioidea. It is proposed to reject the Rhodopidae from the Pulmonata, and to include the onchidiids and the Rathouisioidea in the order Archeopulmonata, together with the ellobiids, the otinids and the Amphiboloidea. 相似文献

A quantitative study was performed on planktonic foraminifera and calcareous nannofossils of the astronomically dated Late Miocene Pissouri section (Cyprus). Our results confirm the reliability of well-known planktonic foraminiferal events as Catapsydraxparvulus LO (Last Occurrence), sinistral coiling change of Globorotaliascitula, Globorotaliamiotumida group FRO (First Regular Occurrence), Globorotalianicolae FO (First occurrence) and LO, sinistral coiling change of Neogloboquadrinaacostaensis and also of several important calcareous nannofossil events (Amaurolithusprimus FO, Amaurolithusdelicatus FO, Reticulofenestrarotaria FO and FCO). Integrated planktonic foraminifera and calcareous nannoplankton data contribute to an enhanced time resolution of the Tortonian - early Messinian interval in the Levantine basin, and contribute to detailed correlations throughout the Eastern Mediterranean. In addition, we compare methodologies commonly used in calcareous plankton biostratigraphy, and shortly outline sources of bias that can influence the results of stratigraphic studies. 相似文献
