A 2-year-old pine plantation was selected to receive treatments of fertilizers and herbicides to evaluate effects on Nantucket pine tip moth infestations and the tree growth parameters of height, diameter and volume increment. Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers, and hexazinone and sulfometuron methyl herbicides were used in creating six treatments: (i) control; (ii) phosphorus; (iii) nitrogen and phosphorus; (iv) phosphorus and herbicide; (v) nitrogen, phosphorus and herbicide; and (vi) herbicide. Treatments were applied in 1987 and 1988. In 1987, trees treated with nitrogen, phosphorus and herbicide had significantly greater height, diameter and volume growth than trees not receiving fertilizer treatments, but did not have significantly higher tip moth infestations than control trees. Treatments receiving phosphorus only had much lower tip moth infestation rates than other treatments except nitrogen and phosphorus. In 1988, tip moth infestations were uniformly low, with no differences in treatment effects observed.  相似文献

Fraxinus pennsylvanica (green ash) is commonly used for reforestation of agricultural lowlands in the midwestern and eastern United States. We evaluated the effects of herbicide (untreated, glyphosate, and sulfometuron methyl) and tillage (tilled and no‐till) on F. pennsylvanica success and composition of associated volunteer vegetation 3 years after the treatment applications and reforestation of a formerly cultivated field in southern Illinois. Tillage had no effect on F. pennsylvanica growth, whereas both herbicides increased all measures of tree performance. The response of associated native and non‐native species cover was affected by an interaction between the herbicide and tillage treatments. In the presence of herbicide, cover of native species was greater in the no‐till treatment, whereas non‐native cover was higher in the tillage treatment. Both native and non‐native cover were unaffected by tillage in the absence of herbicide, and there were no differences in cover among the herbicide treatments in the presence of tillage. Total diversity was higher in the tillage treatment than the no‐till treatment, and diversity was lower in the sulfometuron methyl herbicide treatment than the control and glyphosate herbicide treatment. Lower diversity in the sulfometuron methyl treatment was attributed to greater cover of a native perennial grass, Andropogon virginicus (Broomsedge), which was inversely related to total diversity. We conclude that a single glyphosate herbicide application can enhance F. pennsylvanica growth and conserve associated species diversity in this system. Furthermore, species‐specific responses of the associated vegetation should be included in management considerations, particularly if silvicultural treatments influence dominance and diversity in the establishing understory community during reforestation.  相似文献

Questions: What influence does mechanical mastication and other fuel treatments have on: (1) canopy and forest floor response variables that influence understory plant development; (2) initial understory vegetation cover, diversity, and composition; and (3) shrub and non‐native species density in a second‐growth ponderosa pine forest. Location: Challenge Experimental Forest, northern Sierra Nevada, California, USA. Methods: We compared the effects of mastication only, mastication with supplemental treatments (tilling and prescribed fire), hand removal, and a control on initial understory vegetation response using a randomized complete block experimental design. Each block (n=4) contained all five treatments and understory vegetation was surveyed within 0.04‐ha plots for each treatment. Results: While mastication alone and hand removal dramatically reduced the midstory vegetation, these treatments had little effect on understory richness compared with control. Prescribed fire after mastication increased native species richness by 150% (+6.0 species m2) compared with control. However, this also increased non‐native species richness (+0.8 species m2) and shrub seedling density (+24.7 stems m2). Mastication followed by tilling resulted in increased non‐native forb density (+0.7 stems m2). Conclusions: Mechanical mastication and hand removal treatments aided in reducing midstory fuels but did not increase understory plant diversity. The subsequent treatment of prescribed burning not only further reduced fire hazard, but also exposed mineral soil, which likely promoted native plant diversity. Some potential drawbacks to this treatment include an increase of non‐native species and stimulation of shrub seed germination, which could alter ecosystem functions and compromise fire hazard reduction in the long‐term.  相似文献

The primary objective of many longleaf pine (Pinus palustris) restoration programs is to enhance or restore habitat for wildlife dependent on herbaceous plant communities. Because herbaceous cover is inversely related to canopy cover, restoration programs often place restrictions on longleaf pine planting density. However, the influence of planting density on understory plant communities has been inadequately evaluated. Therefore, we initiated a study to examine the relative influences of planting density and other factors on overall understory composition and forage availability for white‐tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) and northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) in nine longleaf pine stands throughout the Coastal Plain of Alabama during 2017–2018. We found that coverage of herbaceous plants decreased 3.5%, coverage of woody plants decreased 2.4%, and coverage of northern bobwhite forage plants decreased 1.9% for each 1 m2/ha increase in longleaf pine basal area. However, planting density was not a significant predictor of current basal area, nor coverage of any functional group of plants we examined, likely because current longleaf pine density averaged only 46% (range = 30–64%) of seedling planting density. We did not detect an effect of prescribed fire on stand condition or understory plant communities, likely due to variability in fire timing and frequency. Our findings related to planting density were likely a function of low longleaf pine survival, which is not uncommon. Because of this and the inherent variability in growth rates for young longleaf pine stands, restoration programs should consider placing greater emphasis on post‐planting monitoring and management than planting density.  相似文献

【背景】薇甘菊是一种外来入侵的恶性杂草,对当地农、林业造成了严重的危害。【方法】研究了草甘膦、氨氯吡啶酸、甲嘧磺隆、噻吩磺隆、苯磺隆、百草枯、五氟磺草胺、单嘧磺隆和单嘧磺脂9种除草剂对薇甘菊的化学防治,调查各药剂对薇甘菊的植株鲜重抑制率、叶片覆盖度和抑花率。【结果】氨氯吡啶酸25~100gai.hm-2、草甘膦1538~2306gai.hm-2、甲嘧磺隆100~400gai.hm-2、百草枯750、1125gai.hm-2、五氟磺草胺125gai.hm-2、噻吩磺隆11.25~33.75gai.hm-2和单嘧磺脂15~60gai.hm-2对薇甘菊营养生长控制效果较好。其中,百草枯短时间有效,草甘膦、五氟磺草胺、单嘧磺脂、单嘧磺隆、氨氯吡啶酸和甲嘧磺隆对薇甘菊的抑花率较高,苯磺隆和单嘧磺隆基本无效,且9种药剂对橡胶树均未表现出药害。【结论与意义】适当降低氨氯吡啶酸、甲嘧磺隆、草甘膦、五氟磺草胺、噻吩磺隆和单嘧磺脂的浓度可以保持薇甘菊营养生长而扼制种子蔓延。本研究首次发现五氟磺草胺、噻吩磺隆和单嘧磺脂对薇甘菊有良好的抑制效果。  相似文献

Changes to fire regimes have resulted in excessive shrub growth and declines in the species rich herbaceous ground layer of pyric savanna and grassland systems worldwide, including the pine flatwoods of the Southern Coastal Plain of the United States. Prescribed burning and roller chopping during growing (April–October) and dormant (November–March) seasons are management practices promoted to reduce shrub invasion and increase herbaceous plant growth in flatwoods. However, relatively little is known about the seasonal effects these activities have on shrubs and herbaceous vegetation. We assessed the effects of prescribed burning and roller chopping on herbaceous and shrub characteristics in pine flatwoods and explored how grazing may mediate these treatments. We used a paired design, with comparison made between sampling locations randomly located within treated (e.g. burned) and adjacent untreated areas. Growing season burning was more effective at reducing shrub cover and height than dormant season burning. However, shrub re‐growth occurred the second year post‐burn. Roller chopping and roller chopping/burning combinations led to decreases in shrub cover and height for 2 years post‐treatment. Decreases in shrub density were seen on sites subject to growing season roller chopping and grazing. Decreases in herbaceous vegetation were observed following all treatments, possibly the result of grazing. If reductions in shrub density are required, growing season roller chopping in combination with grazing may be the only effective treatment. However, initial deferment from grazing following burning and roller chopping treatments may be necessary to permit re‐establishment and growth of forbs and graminoids.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Evaluation of habitat management practices at mid-rotation is needed for pine (Pinus spp.) plantations enrolled in cost-share programs. Plantations established in abandoned agricultural fields may have different understory plant communities than those with a long history of forest cover. Mid-rotation pine plantations often have a hardwood midstory that limits development of early succession habitat components important to white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus; deer) and northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus; bobwhite). We treated with imazapyr herbicide and prescribed burning (HB) 11 thinned, 13–22-year-old pine plantations in the Upper East Gulf Coastal Plain of Mississippi, USA, enrolled in cost-share programs, and we sampled plant community response during the summers of 2003 and 2004, years 1 and 2 posttreatment. The HB treatment created a more open structure with greater coverage of debris and herbaceous plants than in controls. Increased forb coverage in HB plots yielded a more seasonally diverse foraging base for deer. Horizontal screening cover developed slowly in HB plots and was more abundant in control plots. Autumn and winter food-plant coverage for bobwhite was provided by either treatment, but accessibility was improved in HB plots relative to controls. Bobwhite nesting cover was improved by HB relative to controls but was still of marginal quality. Brood-rearing habitat was precluded in both treatments due to lack of bare ground. Our results indicate that imazapyr followed by prescribed fire is a beneficial tool for creating early succession habitat for deer and bobwhite in mid-rotation pine plantations with a history of agricultural use. Continued management with periodic prescribed fire and overstory thinning should be instituted to maintain and perhaps improve these conditions.  相似文献

Triapenthenol or RSW 0411 (B(-cyclohexalmethylene)-gamma-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole-1-ethanol), a triazole plant growth regulator, applied preemergence as a separate broadcast application, protected tolerant and midtolerant soybean cultivars from metribuzin (4-amino-6-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-3-(methylthio)-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one)-induced necrotic injury, and stabilized seedling fresh weight and dry weight loss to herbicide treatment. Soybean yields were not significantly reduced by triapenthenol treatment alone, but 1.12 kg ai/ha metribuzin and a 0.56 kg ai/ha triapenthenol plus 1.12 kg ai/ha metribuzin combination reduced crop yield averaged across cultivars.  相似文献

Simazine (6-chloro-N,N'-diethyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine) and diuron (N'-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N,N-dimethylurea) are applied as pre-emergence herbicides to control weeds in over 45,000 hectare of citrus in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Growers usually apply 2.0 kg active ingredient (ai) ha(-1) simazine and 2.0 kg ai ha(-1) diuron together in the fall and winter seasons. Surface water and groundwater contamination, ecological, and health damage have led to increased regulatory attention and a search for changes in current weed management practices. Reduced application rate of simazine on runoff losses generated by simulated rainfall was studied in experiment 1. Treatments included a control without herbicide application and application of herbicides at 0.5, 1.0, 1.25 and 2.0 kg ai ha(-1). Three generated runoff events were produced using simulated rainfall with 540 l water. For each simulated rainfall event, the simazine concentration in runoff water was greatest at the first volumetric sampling interval, decreasing gradually in subsequent samples. Simazine concentration in runoff water for the three runoff events was undetectable for the control treatment. For the first simulated rainfall event, simazine concentrations in runoff water averaged 0.55, 1.07, 1.27, and 2.12 mg l(-1) for treatments receiving 0.5, 1.0, 1.25 and 2.0 kg ai ha(-1) herbicide application, respectively; simazine concentration in runoff water from the second event one week later averaged 0.16, 0.27, 0.36, and 0.58 kg ai ha(-1) and two weeks later the concentration was reduced to 0.05, 0.10, 0.14 and 0.22 mg l(-1), respectively. Total simazine mass recovered in runoff water from the three simulated rainfall events was estimated approximately 13.8, 26.3, 32.3 and 53.8 g ha(-1) for the treatments receiving herbicide application at 0.5, 1.0, 1.25 and 2.0 kg ai ha(-1), respectively. Field evaluation of weed density showed that pre-emergence herbicides applied at reduced rates (1.0 and 1.25 kg ai ha(-1)) were as effective as the standard rate (2.0 kg ai ha(-1)) for weed control in experiment 2.  相似文献

The Chilean matorral is characterized by multispecific shrub clumps in dry areas but has a continuous canopy in wetter sites. It has been hypothesized that this difference is due to easier recolonization of open patches by shrub seedlings under more mesic conditions. Within the mesic range of the matorral we designed a field experiment to compare shrub seedling emergence, growth, and survival under the closed canopy of a secondary forest versus three types of open patches: burned, cleared of shrubs but with a herbaceous layer present, and clear without a herbaceous layer. After the first summer, survival of Quillaja saponaria seedlings was 75% in the burned site, 30% in the cleared patch without herbaceous vegetation, and 15% with herbaceous vegetation present, whereas there was 0% survival under the secondary forest canopy. After eight years, the percentages had dropped to: 22%, 12% and 3%, respectively. These results contrast strongly with the seedling establishment patterns in drier areas of the matorral where early seedling survival is higher under the shade of large shrubs. In the experimental mesic sites, seedlings did best on the burned site, not only in terms of survival, but also in terms of growth. After one year, seedling mean height was 10.2 cm in the burned site, whereas 3.8 cm and 5.3 cm in the cleared patches without and with herbaceous respectively. After eight years, mean height differences between treatments had increased further: 147.7 cm in the burned site, 40.3 cm in the cleared patch without herbaceous cover and 13 cm in the cleared patch with herbs. Our results indicate that the facilitative effect of nurse shrubs on seedling establishment found in dry ranges of the matorral is less important in more mesic sites. This difference may explain the continuous shrub cover in relatively mesic areas as opposed to the characteristic patchy structure of the matorral in its drier range.  相似文献

The properties of acetohydroxy acid synthase (AHAS, EC 4.1.3.18) from wild-type Chlorella emersonii (var. Emersonii, CCAP-211/11n) and two spontaneous sulfometuron methyl (SMM)-resistant mutants were examined. The AHAS from both mutants was resistant to SMM and cross-resistant to imazapyr (IM) and the triazolopyrimidine sulfonanilide herbicide XRD-498 (TP). The more-SMM-resistant mutant had AHAS with altered catalytic parameters (K m, specificity), but unchanged sensitivity to the feedback inhibitors valine and leucine. The second mutant enzyme was less sensitive to the feedback inhibitors, but had otherwise unchanged kinetic parameters. Inhibition-competition experiments indicated that the three herbicides (SMM, IM, TP) bind in a mutually exclusive manner, but that valine can bind simultaneously with SMM or TP. The three herbicide classes apparently bind to closely overlapping sites. Many studies have indicated relationships between individual species, but none have related combinations of overstory variables to understory herbaceous vegetation in a Ponderosa pine/Gambel oak ecosystem. Our objective was to determine not only the general relationships between the two sets of variables, but also identify the hyghest contributing variables. We used canonical correlation analysis to relate overstory variables (canopy cover, basal cover and density) to herbaceous vegetation cover variables. Canopy, basal, and ground cover were measured by the line intercept method using a 12.2 m tape as a sample unit. Tree density was measured by the Point-Center-Quarter method. The analysis was made with selected overstory variables and 5 understory herbaceous cover variables. This analysis revealed a significant canonical correlation between the two canonical variables (r=0.69). The analysis showed that among herbaceous cover variables, Oregon grape, Kentucky bluegrass, sedge, and foxtail barley; and among overstory variables, the density and the basal cover of Ponderosa pine indicated the highest positive contribution to the correlation of the two linear combinations while the density and canopy of Gambel oak negatively affected the canonical correlation.  相似文献

Although modern forestry takes into consideration the analysis of the effects of forest management on plant structure, diversity and seedlings, little is known about how those parameters respond to harvest techniques in the Mediterranean region. We investigated the effect of three different harvest intensities, respect to uncut controls, on understory plant species functional groups, richness, diversity and pine seedlings in a natural Maritime pine stand in Spain, three years after harvesting. The harvest treatments produced a reduction of the number of Pinus pinaster seedlings and woody species cover, and an increase of species richness (total and of annual species) and plant cover of annual species respect to control plots (CO). The Shannon diversity values showed no differences between treatments. These results emphasize that the tree harvest treatments analyzed are not suitable for the management of this P. pinaster stand. Otherwise, the reduction of pine seedling density by harvest treatments and the changes in richness and cover of functional groups would not induce the natural regeneration of this stand maintaining the understory plant layer.  相似文献

通过处理(根据当地居民习惯收割凋落物和林下)和保护(停止人为干扰,无任何人类活动)样地的比较在五年内(9190-1995年)研究了人为干扰对鼎湖山马尾松林植物种群动态的影响。结果表明,保护样地的林下层和灌木层盖度逐年上升,而处理样地相对较稳定。保护样地的草本层盖度略上升至1992年后,呈显著下降的变化,处理样地的变化则与保护样地的相反。保护样地的林下层植物种数逐年下降(从1990年的41种降至1995年的30种,减少11种),处理样地变化不大(从1990年的36种降至1995年的34种,仅减少2种)。小径级(≤13cm)的马尾松胸径增长速率保护样地高于处理样地,且径级越小,增长速率越大,然而,径级大于13cm的植株,则没有显示出这种规律性的变化。以上现象表明,适度的人为干扰对稀疏马尾松林的自然更新及林下植物种类多样笥具有一定的维持或促进作用,但不利于马尾松的生长。同时对稀疏马尾松-灌木-草本群落在停止人为干扰后的演替途径作了预测和探讨。  相似文献

Aristida stricta (wiregrass), a perennial bunchgrass, quickly accumulates dead leaves, which along with the shed needles of Pinus palustris (longleaf pine) provide the fuel for frequent surface fires. Thus, historically, wiregrass played a key role in many longleaf communities where it significantly influenced the natural fire regime and thereby the composition of the plant community. Reestablishment of wiregrass is, therefore, critical to restoring the native understory of Atlantic Coastal Plain longleaf pine ecosystems. This study measured the effects of different site preparations and fertilizer application on the survival and growth of wiregrass seedlings. Two-month–old seedlings were underplanted in existing longleaf pine stands on dry Lakeland soils at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina. Survival was acceptable at 51% after four years, although reduced owing to drought and small seedling size. Survival and growth could both be increased by using older seedlings with an initial height of at least 6 cm. Wiregrass leaves grew quite rapidly and attained an average length of 48 cm in four years on control plots. Basal area growth rate was greater than expected, averaging 40% on control treatments and 55% on cultivated and fertilized plots. If growth rates during the first four seasons continue, wiregrass will attain mature size on cultivated and fertilized plots at six years, while non-fertilized control plots will take eight years. A planting density of one seedling per m2 is recommended to provide sufficient wiregrass foliar cover to influence fire regimes in a reasonable length of time (i.e., 5–7 years).  相似文献

Tropical forests vegetation and community research have tended to focus on the tree component, and limited attention has been paid to understory vegetation. Species diversity and composition of the understory of tropical seasonal rain forest were inventoried in a 625 m2 area (for sapling layer) and a 100 m2 area (for herb/seedling layer) in three 1 ha plots. We found 3068 individuals belonging to 309 species, 192 genera and 89 families. The most important family as determined by the Family Importance Value (FIV) was Rubiaceae in both sapling and herb/seedling layers. In terms of Importance Value Index (IVI), the shrub Mycetia gracilis (Rubiaceae) was the most important species in the sapling layer and the pteridophyte Selaginella delicatula (Selaginellaceae) was the most ecological significant species in the herb/seedling layer. Much more vascular plant species were registered in the understory than in the tree layer totaled among the three plots. The species diversity did not differ significantly among the tree layer, sapling layer and herb/seedling layer. Given that we still know little about the understory plant community for growth forms other than trees, the results from the present study indicate that more attention should be paid to the understory vegetation during the decision-making process for biodiversity conservation in the tropical forests.  相似文献

氮沉降是驱动生物多样性变化的重要因素之一。一般认为氮沉降会改变物种多样性, 而且在外源氮添加条件下, 禾草类植物和落叶灌木比杂类草和常绿灌木更具竞争优势。不过该结论更多是从高寒草甸和荒漠草原等生态系统中得到, 主要是针对同一生活型内植物之间的竞争关系, 不涉及不同生活型植物之间的相互作用, 并且由于草原和草甸等生态系统没有明显的垂直结构, 同一层次中植物的高度差异较小, 有可能高估了光照因素对植物的作用。因此从森林生态系统入手, 可以进一步阐述不同生活型植物对氮沉降的响应。本文以我国北方典型的落叶阔叶林——辽东栎(Quercus wutaishanica)林为研究对象, 设置CK (0 kg N·ha -1·yr -1)、N50 (50 kg N·ha -1·yr -1)和N100 (100 kg N·ha -1·yr -1) 3个梯度氮添加实验, 模拟氮沉降对温带森林生物多样性的影响。8年连续的氮添加实验结果显示: (1)氮添加显著降低了林下植物的物种丰富度和多样性, 改变了群落的物种组成; (2)氮添加提高了灌木植物的物种丰富度和多样性; 降低了草本植物的丰富度; (3)氮添加降低了禾草类植物的重要值, 提高了杂类草的重要值。该研究表明, 长期氮添加会显著改变林下植物的物种组成, 不同生活型植物对氮添加的响应亦有所差别。造成该现象的原因可能是由土壤环境变化(如养分含量提高, pH值下降)和植物获取光照能力强弱(如灌木植物获取光资源要多于草本植物)导致。  相似文献

Late successional, dense Artemisia tridentata (big sagebrush) stands restrict associated plant species production, resulting in a monotypic, shrub‐dominated community that threatens biodiversity preservation and ecosystem function. Traditional practices to control A. tridentata can severely reduce or temporarily eliminate A. tridentata and other plant species. Thinning A. tridentata with low rates of the herbicide tebuthiuron enhances herbaceous plant production, community structure, ecosystem functioning, and biodiversity. Tebuthiuron was applied at rates of 0.11–1.0 kg ai/ha to A. tridentata‐dominated plots at Ten Sleep (1979), Lander (1993), and Waltman (1993), Wyoming. Changes in A. tridentata canopy cover, associated plant species biomass, and community composition were evaluated 13 and 14 years post‐treatment at Ten Sleep, and 2 and 4 years post‐treatment at Lander and Waltman. At all sites A. tridentata canopy cover decreased proportionally with increased tebuthiuron rate. Biomass of grasses increased as shrub biomass and cover decreased with increasing tebuthiuron rate. Forb biomass varied between treatments across sample year and site. Shifts from shrub‐dominated control to grass‐dominated treatment plots were attributable to biomass differences of A. tridentata and 2–3 grass species among treatments. The number of plant species was not significantly different between treatments at any site. Similarity indexes revealed progressively greater dissimilar plant composition between the control and sequential treatment plots of increased tebuthiuron rate. Incremental rates of tebuthiuron produce gradual changes in plant species composition without reducing species richness, which may have utility in certain restoration projects.  相似文献

Plant invasions are often implicated in declines of native plant species. However, common experimental designs have received criticism questioning the assumption that invasive plants are the primary cause for ecosystem deterioration. We used a combination of field observations and a transplant experiment to investigate the influence of an exotic invasive shrub, Ligustrum sinense (Chinese Privet) on native plant species in Piedmont floodplain forests of South Carolina, USA. We conducted vegetation surveys of 12 floodplain forests documenting abundance and cover of all herbaceous and woody plant species. Additionally, we established an experimental garden to compare survival and growth of L. sinense and four common native species transplanted into a mature L. sinense stand and an adjacent uninvaded area over two growing seasons. The vegetation survey demonstrated a strong negative relationship between L. sinense presence and herbaceous vegetation. As L. sinense cover increased, herbaceous cover and height, plant abundance, and native species richness decreased. In our transplant experiment we found drastic effects of L. sinense on native plant seedling survival and growth. Survival for all native species was lower under the L. sinense canopy and native seedling growth was substantially reduced. Results from both the vegetation survey and transplant experiment show that invasion of L. sinense suppresses herbaceous understory and prevents regeneration of native species by reducing seedling survival and growth. With an approach that combines multiple field sites and local site-specific investigations our research provides strong evidence that L. sinense is an agent of change in floodplain forests.  相似文献

Overabundance of woody plants in semiarid ecosystems can degrade understory herbaceous vegetation and often requires shrub reduction and seeding to recover ecosystem services. We used meta‐analysis techniques to assess the effects of fire and mechanical shrub reduction over two post‐treatment timeframes (1–4 and 5–10 years) on changes in cover and frequency of 15 seeded species at 63 restoration sites with high potential for recovery. Compared to mechanical treatments, fire resulted in greater increases in seeded species. Native shrubs did not increase, and forbs generally declined over time; however, large increases in perennial grasses were observed, suggesting that seeding efforts contributed to enhanced understory herbaceous conditions. We found greater increases in a few non‐native species than native species across all treatments, suggesting the possibility that interference among seeded species may have influenced results of this regional assessment. Differences among treatments and species were likely driven by seedbed conditions, which should be carefully considered in restoration planning. Site characteristics also dictated seeded species responses: while forbs showed greater increases in cover over the long term at higher elevation sites considered to be more resilient to disturbance, surprisingly, shrubs and grasses had greater increases in cover and frequency at lower elevation sites where resilience is typically much lower. Further research is needed to understand the causes of forb mortality over time, and to decipher how greater increases of non‐native relative to native seeded species will influence species diversity and successional trajectories of restoration sites.  相似文献
