The degree of genetic divergence which has occurred between a number of inbred strains of mice and between two sublines of inbred rats was assessed by determining the fate of inter-subline skin grafts. Sublines which had been separated for 29 and 42 generations possessed no detectable incompatibility, while three combinations of sublines judged to have been maintained apart for from 123 to 129 generations showed slight degrees of histoincompatibility. One pair of sublines which had been separated for 119 generations demonstrated a marked degree of incompatibility, and an F2 test suggested that mutations had occurred at four or five histocompatibility loci.  相似文献

Background

HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT) is the point-of-entry for pathways of HIV care and prevention. However, HCT is not reaching many who are HIV infected and this may be related to the HCT provision model. We describe HCT utilization and HIV diagnosis using four models of HCT delivery: clinic-based, urban mobile, rural mobile, and stand-alone.

Methods

Using cross-sectional data from routine HCT provided in South Africa, we described client characteristics and HIV test results from information collected during service delivery between January 2009 and June 2012.

Results

118,358 clients received services at clinic-based units, 18,597; stand-alone, 28,937; urban mobile, 38,840; and rural mobile, 31,984. By unit, clients were similar in terms of median age (range 28–31), but differed in sex distribution, employment status, prior testing, and perceived HIV risk. Urban mobile units had the highest proportion of male clients (52%). Rural mobile units reached the highest proportion of clients with no prior HCT (61%) and reporting no perceived HIV risk (64%). Overall, 10,862 clients (9.3%) tested HIV-positive.

Conclusions

Client characteristics varied by HCT model. Importantly, rural and urban mobile units reached more men, first-time testers, and clients who considered themselves to be at low risk for HIV.  相似文献

Four suites of behavioral traits have been associated with four broad neural systems: the 1) dopamine and related norepinephrine system; 2) serotonin; 3) testosterone; 4) and estrogen and oxytocin system. A 56-item questionnaire, the Fisher Temperament Inventory (FTI), was developed to define four temperament dimensions associated with these behavioral traits and neural systems. The questionnaire has been used to suggest romantic partner compatibility. The dimensions were named: Curious/Energetic; Cautious/Social Norm Compliant; Analytical/Tough-minded; and Prosocial/Empathetic. For the present study, the FTI was administered to participants in two functional magnetic resonance imaging studies that elicited feelings of love and attachment, near-universal human experiences. Scores for the Curious/Energetic dimension co-varied with activation in a region of the substantia nigra, consistent with the prediction that this dimension reflects activity in the dopamine system. Scores for the Cautious/Social Norm Compliant dimension correlated with activation in the ventrolateral prefrontal cortex in regions associated with social norm compliance, a trait linked with the serotonin system. Scores on the Analytical/Tough-minded scale co-varied with activity in regions of the occipital and parietal cortices associated with visual acuity and mathematical thinking, traits linked with testosterone. Also, testosterone contributes to brain architecture in these areas. Scores on the Prosocial/Empathetic scale correlated with activity in regions of the inferior frontal gyrus, anterior insula and fusiform gyrus. These are regions associated with mirror neurons or empathy, a trait linked with the estrogen/oxytocin system, and where estrogen contributes to brain architecture. These findings, replicated across two studies, suggest that the FTI measures influences of four broad neural systems, and that these temperament dimensions and neural systems could constitute foundational mechanisms in personality structure and play a role in romantic partnerships.  相似文献

DURING outbred pregnancy the mother is exposed to genetically foreign tissue because the offspring inherits transplantation antigens from the father. The survival of the foetus is ensured by the intervention of the trophoblast which does not express transplantation antigens between mother and foetus: mouse trophoblast is not rejected even when transplanted into immune recipients1,3. The mechanism of this failure to express histocompatibility antigens is not understood1–4, but Kirby et al. have suggested that the extracellular fibrinoid surrounding trophoblast cells is involved5,6. Currie has suggested that the thick sialomucinous glycocalyx of the trophoblast cell might “mask” the histocompatibility antigens on the trophoblast7,8 and has demonstrated that neuraminidase unmasked these antigens8. Our experiments, however, show that trophoblast incubated with neuraminidase cannot sensitize allogeneic mice to donor histocompatibility antigens. Furthermore, pretreatment of trophoblastic implants with neuraminidase did not interfere with their proliferation and growth in highly immune allogeneic recipients.  相似文献

目的:采用GB/T16175-1997和ISO10993-6:2007标准中植入后局部反应试验的结果判定方法,评价房间隔缺损闭合器植入体内后的组织相容性,探讨两种方法在组织相容性评价中的作用.方法:采用试验动物家兔皮下植入试验,将试验样品植入家兔背部皮下组织,分别于植入后1周、4周和12周后处死动物,取材,常规制片,HE染色,组织学观察采用炎症和纤维囊腔分级法及半定量记分法.结果:样品皮下植入后随着时间的延长,其周围组织的反应程度呈加重趋势.植入后12周,组织学反应未达到稳态.两种方法的组织学观察结果是一致的.结论:两种方法在组织学评价中均有其局限性,实际中可将两种方法结合来评价医疗器械的组织相容性,建议继续观察该样品植入后26周的局部反应,以减少临床使用的风险.  相似文献

Tick control is a subject that has stimulated intense interest for more than a century. This article is a commentary on the research needs for tick control proposed in Peter Willadsen's recent article and it calls attention to tick control strategies that were either poorly represented or omitted from the latter. Special consideration is given to host-targeted devices to control disease vector ticks infesting wildlife, to pheromone-impregnated decoys for attracting and killing ticks in the natural environment and on hosts, and to more up-to-date advances in vaccine development.  相似文献

Information about external world is delivered to the brain in the form of structured in time spike trains. During further processing in higher areas, information is subjected to a certain condensation process, which results in formation of abstract conceptual images of external world, apparently, represented as certain uniform spiking activity partially independent on the input spike trains details. Possible physical mechanism of condensation at the level of individual neuron was discussed recently. In a reverberating spiking neural network, due to this mechanism the dynamics should settle down to the same uniform/ periodic activity in response to a set of various inputs. Since the same periodic activity may correspond to different input spike trains, we interpret this as possible candidate for information condensation mechanism in a network. Our purpose is to test this possibility in a network model consisting of five fully connected neurons, particularly, the influence of geometric size of the network, on its ability to condense information. Dynamics of 20 spiking neural networks of different geometric sizes are modelled by means of computer simulation. Each network was propelled into reverberating dynamics by applying various initial input spike trains. We run the dynamics until it becomes periodic. The Shannon's formula is used to calculate the amount of information in any input spike train and in any periodic state found. As a result, we obtain explicit estimate of the degree of information condensation in the networks, and conclude that it depends strongly on the net's geometric size.  相似文献

In this study of murine survival, 422 F1 hybrids between DBA/2J (D2) female mice and C57BL/10 (B10) background H-2 congenic male mice (11 strains), 88 F1 hybrids between B10 female mice and B10 background H-2 congenic male mice (3 strains), and 532 control mice from the 11 parental B10 background H-2 congenic mice were bred over a period of 2 yr. Toward the end of the breeding period there was documentation of Sendai infection in the mouse rooms. All analyses were done separately for the two sexes. Although it did not appear that an unusually high number of mice died during the time the colony was infected with Sendai, there was a highly significant tendency for mice who were younger at the time of the Sendai infection to have shorter survival than mice who were older at that time point. The effect of birth date on survival was approximately as significant as the effect of strain on survival. Hence all analyses of genetic effects on survival were either done within subsets of mice born in the same quarter of a particular year or else included date of birth variables in survival models. Of the 18 possible comparisons of pairs of strains which overlapped in birth dates and differed only in the D end of H-2, five were associated with highly significant survival differences. Of the 11 pairs of strains which overlapped in birth date and differed only in the K end of H-2, none was associated with significant survival differences.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
