Three 58-day old Small-Ear-Miniature (SEM) pigs, six 36-day old Landrace-Small-Ear-Miniature (L-SEM) pigs, and two 5-day old Holstein calves were each fed 3000 or 30,000 Indonesia Taenia (Samosir strain) eggs and sacrificed 27-195 days after inoculation. A total of 4922 cysticerci were recovered only from the livers of the three SEM pigs (1977 cysticerci) and six L-SEM pigs (2945 cysticerci). The infection rate in pigs was 100%. Cysticerci recovery rates of SEM and L-SEM pigs were 22.0% and 1.6%, respectively. Calves were not susceptible to Indonesia Taenia. More cysticerci were found in the liver parenchyma (L-SEM, 66.4%; SEM, 76.2%) than on the liver surface (L-SEM, 33.6%; SEM, 23.8%) of the infected animals. Most (99.86%) of the cysticerci recovered from the livers of L-SEM pigs were degenerated or calcified but 77.9% of those in the livers of SEM pigs were mature and only 22.1% were degenerated or calcified. Measurements of length, width, diameters of protoscolex, rostellum, and sucker and hooklet pattern indicated that Indonesia Taenia is very similar to Taiwan Taenia and very different from Taenia saginata and Taenia solium. In the present study, six 34-44-day-old Small-Ear-Miniature pigs and one 14-day-old Holstein calf were each fed 10,000 Philippine Taenia eggs and sacrificed 27-43 days after inoculation. The infection rate was 100% for both pigs and calf with cysticerci recovery rates of 11 and 6%, respectively. A total of 6431 cysticerci were recovered only from the livers of the six pigs and 597 only from the liver of the calf; more occurred in the parenchyma (pigs 75%, calf 83%) than on the surface (pigs 25%, calf 17%). Mature cysticerci were found in four of the six pigs. A total of 317 cysticerci recovered from the pig livers were mature and the rest were either immature (926), degenerate or calcified (5188). All 597 cysticerci recovered from the liver of the calf were degenerate or calcified. Measurements of length, width, diameter of protoscolex, rostellum, and sucker and hooklet pattern indicated that Philippine Taenia is very similar to Taenia from Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia and Thailand and very different from classical T. saginata and T. solium. 相似文献

Two 22-day-old Landrace-Small Ear Miniature (L-SEM) pigs, five 45 to 66-day-old Small Ear Miniature (SEM) pigs, and one 16-day-old Holstein calf were each fed 1000, 3000 or 10,000 Taenia saginata (Poland strain) eggs respectively and killed 34-77 days after inoculation. Four of the five SEM pigs and the Holstein calf were susceptible to this parasite. However, two L-SEM pigs and one SEM pig remained negative. The cysticerci recovery rates for the SEM pig and Holstein calf were 36% and 3%, respectively. All cysticerci from the SEM pigs were found in the livers, more in the parenchyma (89%) than on the surface (11%). Only eleven cysticerci in two SEM pigs were mature and the remainder were either immature, degenerated or calcified. The cysticerci in the calf were distributed throughout the body: leg muscles (248), heart (27), tongue (17), intercostal muscles (14), diaphragm (5), kidney (1) and liver (1). Most (299) of the cysticerci were mature, one was immature and 13 were degenerated or calcified. The length, width, diameter of the protoscolex and sucker of the cysticerci from the calf were larger than those from the SEM pigs. However, the diameter of the rostellum of the latter was slightly larger than the former. Hooklets were not found on any mature cysticercus recovered. The results of the present study provide evidence that the SEM pig can be used as an experimental intermediate host for T. saginata. 相似文献

The infectivity of metacestodes of Asian Taenia saginata, now tentatively called Taenia saginata taiwanensis, in human host was confirmed. The metacestodes used in experimental infection were collected from the livers of naturally infected domestic pigs at an abattoir in Cheongju City, Korea. The first gravid proglottid was spontaneously discharged 76 days after infection. Two worms were recovered two years later by chemotherapy. The scolex was unarmed. The number of main uterine branches, varying from 16 to 21, was similar to that of classical Taenia saginata. The liver of pigs was confirmed to be an infection source of Asian T. saginata in Korea. 相似文献

The authors infected lambs with R. prowazeki and R. canada to ascertain their possible role in the natural infection of the animals. The lambs were infected subcutaneously with increasing doses; rickettsiemia was recorded with the aid of tests on guinea pigs and Ixodidae and Argasidae ticks fed on the lambs. Dynamics of antibody formation was ascertained in the infected animals in the agglutination reaction and in the complement fixation test. The antigenic affinity of R. canada and rickettsia of the typhoid group and the presence of common antigenic determinants with the Proteus OX19 was confirmed. The absence of any clinical manifestations, the character of antibody formation, impossibility of inducing the generalized infection and of the isolation of the causative agent from the blood pointed to the low susceptibility of lambs to R. prowazeki and R. canada; thus a possibility of circulation of the causative agents of typhius among the domestic animals scarcely probable. 相似文献

Staphylococci occur in donkeys more frequently than in other animals, and only from donkeys coagulase-negative staphylococci, characteristic of humans (S. hominis, S. capitis, S. cohnii), were isolated. Least frequently staphylococcal carrier state was registered in cats; in these animals only coagulase-negative strains were found to occur. From 30 donkeys coagulase-positive staphylococci belonging to 47 S. aureus strains were isolated. These strains differed from known ecological variants in their biological properties, thus suggesting the existence of S. aureus ecovar specific for donkeys. These strains did not coagulate human, bovine and ovine plasma, but coagulated rabbit plasma in 100% of cases and donkey plasma only in 53% of cases; at the same time they relatively often produced delta hemolysin, rarely phosphatase and hyaluronidase and never fibrinolysin. Eight domestic ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) and two Siberian polecats (M. eversmanni) were inoculated subcutaneously with 12 to 1.2 x 10(7) Yersinia pestis originally isolated during an epizootic of plague in white-tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys leucurus) near Meeteetse, Park County, Wyoming (USA) in 1985. None of the ferrets or polecats developed clinical signs of disease which suggested that black-footed ferrets (M. nigripes), a congener, also would be resistant to plague. All animals receiving greater than or equal to 1.2 X 10(3) organisms produced serum antibodies detected by the passive hemagglutination test with titers peaking at 1:1,024 and remaining positive until at least 219 days postinoculation. Sera collected from 12 free-ranging black-footed ferrets near Meeteetse in 1984 and 1985 were negative for antibodies against Y. pestis. The biological characteristics of Potiskum virus, a hitherto undescribed virus isolated in Nigeria from the liver of a giant rat (Cricetomys gambianus), were studied by experimental infections of laboratory and domestic animals. The laboratory animal hosts used included mice, rats, rabbits and chicks. Suckling and weaning mice succumbed to fatal infection when infected with Potiskum virus by intracerebral or intraperitoneal routes. Infected mice had high titres of virus and mild histopathological lesions which were confined to the brain. Chicks also developed a fatal disease following subcutaneous or oral infections with Potiskum virus. In contrast, albino rats and rabbits failed to succumb to overt disease by subcutaneous and intraperitoneal routes of inoculation. Albino rats did not develop antibody but rabbits developed haemagglutination inhibiting, neutralising and complement fixing antibodies. 相似文献

Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis is an important neurological disease of horses in the United States. Consequently, there is an active research effort to identify hosts associated with the primary causative agent, Sarcocystis neurona. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the domestic cat (Felis catus) is a natural host for S. neurona. Muscle sections from 50 primarily free-roaming domestic cats were examined for the presence of sarcocysts. Serum from cats in this group and another group of 50 free-roaming cats were evaluated for the presence of S. neurona antibody. Sarcocysts were found in five of 50 (10%) cats, and S. neurona antibody in five of 100 (5%) cats. Morphological, molecular (including ribosomal RNA genes), and biological characterisation of these sarcocysts showed that they were not S. neurona or S. neurona-like. Sarcocysts found in the cats were identified morphologically as Sarcocystis felis, a common parasite of wild felids. The life cycle of S. felis is not known, and prior to this study, no molecular marker for S. felis existed. Although cats were found to be infected with S. felis sarcocysts, serological data provided evidence of possible infection with S. neurona as well. Further work is needed to determine the role of the domestic cat in the life cycle of S. neurona. 相似文献

A cysticercus of a possibly undescribed species of Taenia which occurs commonly in Taiwan aborigines was used to establish an experimental infection in a human volunteer. Symptomatic effects attributed to the infection included diarrhoea, upper abdominal pain, and increase or loss of appetite over a four-month period. After an expelled proglottid was observed 122 days post-exposure, eggs and proglottids were found continuously until the patient was treated with anthelmintics. Antibody titres measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and levels of eosinophilia seemed to correlate with symptoms. Haematological analyses revealed an abnormal lipid metabolism during the entire symptomatic period. 相似文献

Epidemiological survey of Trichinella infection in domestic, synanthropic and sylvatic animals from Argentina 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The presence of Trichinella larvae was investigated in 247 samples taken from domestic, synanthropic and sylvatic animals, collected during 1996 to 2005 in 12 endemic provinces of Trichinella infection in Argentina. Muscle larvae of Trichinella from 65 infected animals were identified at the species level by single larva nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique based on the variability within the expansion segment V (ESV) region of the ribosomal DNA. Trichinella infections were found in 97 of 164 pigs, 38 of 56 pork products, two domestic dogs, one domestic cat, 7 of 11 armadillos and 3 of 9 synanthropic rats. All Trichinella isolates were identified as Trichinella spiralis by nested PCR. These findings add new data on the epidemiology of trichinellosis and should be considered when implementing new strategies to control this zoonosis. 相似文献

Taenia crassiceps cysticerci form large infrapopulations that persist in the tissues of their rodent hosts. Early infrapopulation growth appears inhibited and is followed by rapid increases that appear not to be controlled by the host immune response. This investigation was undertaken to examine the infrapopulation growth dynamics of a normally developing strain (WFU) of T. crassiceps during a 60-day primary intraperitoneal (i.p.) infection. Three, 6, 9, 14, 28, and 60 days after i.p. inoculation of 5 cysticerci, mice were killed, and the numbers of larvae, developmental stage, and buds per larva were recorded. Larval infrapopulation abundance increased exponentially beginning on day 6 postinoculation (PI), indicating an initial lag in reproduction. A stage-structured exponential growth model, assuming no mortality, fits the larval infrapopulation dynamics in terms of the numbers of larvae in reproductive and nonreproductive stages, indicating that cysticerci evade or suppress (or both) host immune mechanisms that are parasite restrictive after the first week of infection. 相似文献
