The warm, dry climate in central India provides suitable conditions for the growth of many crustose lichens, including Caloplaca species. A new species, Caloplaca awasthii Joshi, Y. & Upreti, is described from this region, where it is found growing in rocky areas of Madhya Pradesh (Bedinagar Hills and Bhimbetka) and Rajasthan (Mount Abu). The new taxon belongs to the section Gasparrinia and is characterized by the presence of blastidia, but lacks apothecia and pycnidia. It is a saxicolous species and is similar to C. decipiens (Arnold) Blomb. & Fross., but differs in having blastidia instead of soredia which are present in C. decipiens. Another closely related species, C. fuerteventurae van den Boom & Etayo, belonging to the C. flavescens complex, differs from the new taxon in having numerous apothecia and citriform spores. © 2007 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2007, 155 , 149–152.

Two new species of caddisflies from East Asia (Trichoptera: Philopotamidae, Psychomyiidae)
JUN MI HUR JOHN C. MORSE 《Insect Science》2006,13(3):217-220
A new species of Kisaura Ross (Philopotamidae) from Japan and a new species of Psychomyia Latreille (Psychomyiidae) from Russia are described. Kisaura imparis n. sp. is closest to Kisaura aurascens (Martynov, 1934), but the lateral processes of tergum X are asymmetrical and the apex of tergum X is different. Psychomyia poltavkaensis n. sp. resembles Psychomyia n. sp., but the shape of tergum IX+X is more rounded, the apex of the basoventral process of each preanal appendage is unforked, and the inferior appendages are branched.

Triplophysa ferganaensis sp. nov. is described from the Shakhimardan stream, a small tributary of the Syr Darya, which does not reach the river in Fergana Valley. It can be distinguished from other valid Triplophysa loaches based on the following combination of characters: body smooth and scaleless, lateral line complete, posterior chamber of air bladder degenerated, inner gill rakers 10–11 on the first-gill arch, outer gill rakers absent, vertebrae 4 + 35–36, 8 + 8 branched caudal-fin rays, caudal peduncle depth 2.1–2.7 times its length, two supratemporal pores, dorsal-fin origin closer to the caudal-fin base than to the snout tip, caudal fin emarginated and pelvic-fin tip reaching the anus. The new species can also be distinguished from its congeners based on the molecular analyses of mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (coI) gene sequences. The phylogenetic position of this new species indicates that it is a sister taxon of Triplophysa tenuis.

Three new species of loculoascomycetes collected from freshwater habitats in North America are described as new species of Jahnula (Jahnulales, Dothideomycetes). All three share these morphological features: hyaline to blackish translucent, membranous ascomata with subtending, wide, septate brown, spreading hyphae; peridia composed of large angular cells; hamathecium of septate pseudoparaphyses; 8-spored, clavate to cylindrical asci; and 1-septate, broadly fusiform, brown, multiguttulate ascospores. Four additional species, J. aquatica, J. bipolaris, J. potamophila, and J. seychellensis, are reported for the first time from the western hemisphere.

Two new diterpenoids, ent-7α-acetoxy-15-beyeren-18-oic acid and (13S,15S)-6β,7α,12α,19-tetrahydroxy-13β,16-cyclo-8-abietene-11,14-dione, have been isolated from Plectranthus saccatus and Plectranthus porcatus, respectively, and their structures were established by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic studies. The new diterpenes showed no activity against Gram-negative bacteria and Candida albicans (yeast strain). Among Gram-positive bacteria, the lower MIC value was 62.50 μg/ml for the abietane derivative against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538.
